IN THE MIDDLE OF A BROKEN CONSTELLATION - PT. 9

Whenever Diana was behind the wheel of her car, she somehow felt just as powerful as when she wore her Amazonian girdle. There was something exciting to her about handling her Mercedes that nothing else in her centuries of life could compare to, not even her training mare on Themyscira. She had witnessed the rapid progression of the Industrial Age firsthand and that explosion of technological growth had led her to owning a 2018 Mercedes, cruising through the streets of Gotham City in the early morning, imagining what it would be like to race Clark or Barry with her sleek, modern, manufactured horsepower.

Despite her own godlike strength, Diana knew just how much she enjoyed being imbued with confidence by the lavish things she owned in life. She had worked for decades to afford her car and the wardrobe she owned, after all. Even though her closet hadn’t arrived with the rest of her furniture yesterday, she had stepped into Gotham’s Fashion District late last night and bought for herself a lovely Louis Vuitton ruffle and snap dress in black so that she could get away with wearing her favourite black heels again. It was a secret passion of hers - budgeting her money to spoil herself silly - but she definitely put her all into selecting her fashion the same way she would prepare for any battle.

The proper armour was vital when taking on the any challenge, after all.

That was the mindset she intended to carry into her first day of work at Wayne Tower as she drove into the underground parking lot. There were mostly cars with black and silver bodies filling every floor, but as luck would have it, she managed to find herself situated between a orange Toyota Corolla and a black Mustang with vertical red stripes on the seventh level. Her cherry red machine sat perfectly between them, she noted to herself as she parked, exited and locked her vehicle with a push of a button. The amount of cars already stationed in the lot made her feel as though she was late for her first day, encouraging her to walk as fast as she could without breaking into a sprint while making her way to the elevator.

Though she could have already assumed as much, it was important for her to take note that Wayne Enterprises was never empty and therefore, was likely never officially closed.

Her first day was set to begin at seven a.m., yet she was inside the parking lot’s elevator at six-thirty. It was a swift ride - impatient as the man who owned the building - and she was dropped off at the lobby in three blinks. As soon as the door opened, she was met with the same hustle and bustle she witnessed the day before, except she was expected to blend in with it now.

Diana was careful to follow the unintentional train that was headed towards the above ground elevators she rode in yesterday. There were people on their phones all around her, huddles of employees having what appeared to be incredibly serious conversations, and all she managed to do was keep pace with the heard that was trying to squeeze their way into a single elevator car. The only thing she could do was smile politely to the young girl that was pressed against her as they became incredibly acquainted while she made her way to the thirty fourth floor once again.

It felt never ending, which is why she was all too eager to jump out into the hallway once the elevator reached her stop. She straightened her dress and scurried to the board room she had been in yesterday morning, a bubble of hope rising in her heart that she’d see Bruce again, despite how unlikely that would be.

No, he wasn’t present this time, but it looked as if her entire new team was.

Diana skidded to a halt in the doorway of Board Room C and was genuinely shocked that nearly every seat around the table was taken. The smaller space somehow matched the energy of the busy lobby downstairs and she felt as if she had intruded on a moment of great debate. It was only when she dared to take one step beyond the door frame that she managed to catch Lucius’ attention from the head of the table across the room.

“Ah, Diana!” Now that she was hired, it seemed that she was being promoted to a first name basis. As he rose from his seat to come meet her with an outstretched hand, the twenty or so people that had been talking over one another grew silent and all turned to appraise her at once. She greeted them with the same smile she gave the woman on the elevator before reaching out to take Lucius’ hand. Careful to show respect, she answered him safely with, “Good morning, Mr. Fox.”

She was so happy that she made the call to use his last name, as he did not correct her and ask that she call him Lucius. Instead, he faced the board room and chose to introduce her to the staff himself. “This is our new Community Outreach Specialist, Miss Diana Prince.”

An older gentleman decided to ask a question instead of offering her a quick hello. He raised his hand but spoke before being called on. “Didn’t you fire our old one when he came in an hour ago?” Apparently the speed with which the position was filled was shocking.

Lucius chuckled and abandoned her side, returning to the head of the table at the other end of the room. “Yes, I did, and now we have someone else to fill the position. I know you’re a veteran employee but that’s how the hiring process works, Don.” The obvious tease garnered a few soft giggles from around the table, all while her new boss waved her over to his side. Diana sauntered over to her designated spot across the room, aware of how everyone’s eyes followed her, finding it to be rather invigorating rather than intimidating.

However, the wind was stolen from her chest when a massive stack of papers was instantly tossed towards her and she was forced to catch them so suddenly. Apparently, whatever the team was discussing meant that they were in a rush as Lucius was quick with his words. “Once you fill out the contract, I’m going to be sending you out to Gotham General for your first day, so do you have anything you want to say to the group before we resume?”

“Sure,” was her automatic response as she tried to digest how quickly her day was already moving. When Bruce warned her that she’d be thrown into the frey immediately, he wasn’t kidding. Despite the slight whiplash, she found herself rather excited to begin. The awaiting gazes that she faced showcased the entire team’s anticipation, and if she were honest with herself, she was filled with just as much suspense as they were to see how this new career of hers would pan out.

Unable to wait another second, she grinned and said, “Hello everyone. As Mr. Fox said, my name is Diana Prince and I am very excited to be working with you all. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of this new role eventually, so if you bare with me, I promise to do my best as your new Community Outreach Specialist.”

The room politely clapped for her, and she appreciated it greatly.

Once the moment had passed though, the team returned to the same noise level she had encountered when she walked into the room. The only one who didn’t partake right away was Lucius, who stopped to offer her a few more instructions. “Once you fill that out, you’ll head to the second floor and get your ID badge printed. You can ask the front desk for directions to Gotham General after that. Got it?” It wasn’t a derogatory mark in the slightest - Mr. Lucius Fox was issuing her a challenge as he arched a curious brow her way.

Sequestered in the corner, she didn’t feel at all intimidated or anxious by the tasks laid out for her. It wasn’t at all unlike Wonder Woman to face her ventures with the utmost vitality, and Diana felt that there wasn’t much difference between her superhero persona and who she was without the girdle. Ready and restless, Diana replied, “Got it.”

Gotham General was only the fifth or so hospital she had been to in her life, considering that her wounds healed on their own. She had only ever visited friends who were ill or in labour, and she stayed in specific cities for as long as she could before moving on, so her experience with doctors and nurses was quite limited. Still, it carried the same air as any other one she had been to: uncontrollably busy while feigning a sense of calm. The lighting was the same, the smell that wafted throughout despite the wings she walked between, and the way her heart ached when she saw people laying on gurneys in the hallways without loved ones to sit with them. They were factories of mixed emotions in her eyes, and she could somewhat understand why this role would be a definite challenge.

After flashing her Wayne Foundation badge to the nurses, Diana’s access had allowed her the instructions to reach the rooms used for isolation, as that was where the quarantine of the sludge-infested people were being kept. Despite the time that had passed between the initial infestation and the disappearance of the sludge in the waterways of the city, there had been absolutely no production of a solidified cure and the constant consumption of the isolation rooms was creating trouble for the hospital.

It was her job to meet with the head of the department and assess the situation.

Approaching the nurses’ station in the Isolation Ward, Diana was greeted by a rather serious looking senior woman as soon as she came within five feet of the desk. “Hello,” she spoke as soon as she was spotted, hoping to get the information she needed quickly so as not to bother her any further. “My name is Diana Prince and I am here representing the Wayne Foundation. I was hoping I could speak with Dr. Thompson?”

“She doesn’t work here anymore.” Was the blunt and disinterested reply of the older woman, sounding irritated that Diana dared to ask such an obvious question. It seemed she wasn’t the only one who switched up her position recently.

Unwilling to accept such an answer, Diana was firm but gentle as she pushed for more information. “Then who should I speak to? I’m here to see if we can help you with the quarantine issues you’ve been having.”

“Let me see what I can do.” Groaned the nurse before slowly reaching for the phone, her teeth grinding to further illustrate her irritation.

All Diana could do was sigh softly to herself before she turned around to look at the waiting room and find herself a seat.

Only to spot the only other person she knew who was traipsing around Gotham City with the same bravado as she was. “Clark?”

The glasses he wore to mask his identity nearly leapt off of his face when he looked up to see her. “Diana!” He exclaimed with a range of emotions as he dropped his pen and notepad onto the vacant chair beside him and raced over to her. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here representing the Wayne Foundation.” She replied with a little too much glee, showing off her ID badge as if it was a badge of honour, as if she could prove to him how successful her infiltration mission had turned out so far.

He smiled at her, clearly impressed by her immediate rise to such a high status, and he prepared to open his mouth to tell her how proud he was of her. Or so she assumed, before a woman who looked to be a foot or so shorter than him squeezed in between the two of them without much subtlety and introduced herself. “Hi. Lois Lane, reporter for the Daily Planet.”

Despite the young woman making sure that she had interrupted their conversation, it somehow became Diana’s responsibility to offer her a handshake instead. Clark used his open mouth to play the part of the middle man between them. “Lois, this is Diana Prince, Diana, Lois.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Diana said kindly while putting all of her focus on the death grip that was exchanged between her and the fiery female before her. Despite her stature making her seem leagues smaller than the two of them, the rambunctious, determined energy that rolled off of Lois in waves was so impressive, she genuinely couldn’t look away from her even if she wanted to.

What Diana had mistaken for possible jealousy transformed into calculated willpower as she pulled out her phone and held it out between them. Clearly enunciating her words, Lois began to speak loud enough for her phone’s recording app to catch every word. “Miss Prince, you work for the Wayne Foundation. Is there anything you can tell us about what’s happening here with the victims of the sludge attacks? Is your company planning to invest more into a possible cure? Or provide Gotham General with a way to handle the upkeep of housing them?”

From the look in her eyes, there was clearly an invested fire ignited inside of her. Diana couldn’t tell if she knew someone in Metropolis who was affected by the sludge as well, or if she was simply that empathetic as a reporter, but it was obvious that she couldn’t avoid making some kind of statement and that put her in a dangerous situation given her short time in her new position.

Calmly so as to be mindful of words, Diana explained, “Given that I am quite new to my position, I cannot give you a proper answer at this point in time. I am here to assess the situation with the chief physician, and once we know more, I am sure Wayne Enterprises will be more than happy to provide you with a proper quote.”

Clark looked as if he had been hit with a cool breeze after sweating incessantly. On the other hand, Lois looked rather exasperated. “Sorry,” she showed that she was aware of her demanding behaviour as she removed the phone from her face and returned it to her pocket. “We’ve been sitting here waiting for answers ourselves. Since Gotham was hit first by all of this, we were hoping they might have some answers.” As Lois crossed her arms, Clark took the opportunity to add on, “We were in contact with a Gotham Gazette reporter but we haven’t heard from her since yesterday afternoon. We were hoping to run into her here today.” The pointed gaze he gave Diana showcased the nervousness he felt for whom she could only assume to be Vicki Vale.

“Why here?” Diana asked, wondering why the pair of them hadn’t just headed straight to the Gotham Gazette office if they wished to speak to her.

Lois refused to answer her at first, not until she made sure the coast was clear. Given that they were still standing next to the information desk and the older nurse had turned away from them so she could make her phone call, it was clear that no one was listening. Once she felt secure with their surroundings, she leaned in and informed Diana of their ulterior motive, “Because we might run into Commissioner Gordon here too. His daughter is supposedly one of the people who were infected.”

Gordon… The name sounded familiar to Diana and it took it her a moment too long to realize way, her face remaining blank as she tried to remember why.

Then, she remembered exactly who his daughter was, and what her alias was: Oracle.

The shock was written all over her face the moment it dawned on her. It suddenly made sense why no one had heard from her. It also explained why there was no headway made on a cure: the computer analysis they had relied on Oracle for was left incomplete if she was transformed into a sludge monster like everyone else who came in contact with it--

Diana gasped, her eyes going wide as a terrifying thought struck her like a bolt of the fiercest lightning.

“Hopefully, he will clarify if the rumour is true or not.” Clark offered some reassuring words, implying that this particular lead might be false.

However, it didn’t reach Diana. “Hopefully. If you’ll excuse me? I need make a call to my team.” Without waiting to see if Lois believed her, she turned and left the ward as fast as her feet could carry her. She ripped her phone out of her pocket and pretended to use it before placing it next to her ear, using her thumb to activate her ear piece. “Victor? Is the sludge contained at headquarters?”

“Cyborg here. I was just about to take it out again and--”

Knowing Clark could hear her with his developed sense of hearing from inside the hospital, she demanded both of their attention as she expressed her fears to them. “Don’t. This thing is taking over whoever touches it. Clark thinks that Oracle has been consumed by it. We need a new approach to it because we can’t make contact. I think that’s why we haven’t heard back from Arthur and Barry either. I think they’re… gone.”

“Crisis on Earth-X” Part 3 and 4

Spoilers for tonight’s episodes! (Flash and Legends, respectively)

Last night Mick was the best thing about the crossover, and tonight it was Len...well, Leo, aka Citizen Cold.  He's a member of the rebellion against the regime on Earth-X, and the boyfriend of The Ray.  And where Len is calm and chill, Leo is exuberant and a hugger.  He does flirt a little bit with Sara as we saw in the preview, but he's obviously very much in love with Ray Terrill and they kiss several times.  He kind of flirts with Barry too, and it's Barry who he hugs at the end.

But Mick still gets some good moments.  Leo chummily tries to get Mick not to drink so much to numb his feelings, and Mick thinks it's his hallucination-Len reappearing.  Leo jocularly calls him partner, and Mick rebuffs him when he finds out that Leo's from another earth.  Apparently Earth-X Mick died saving cops from a burning building, and Mick doesn't like the sound of that at all.  Plus, Leo later chides Mick for killing while Mick's roasting Nazis, which is a bit of a curiosity; why does a guy from a rebellion fighting a genocidal dictatorship think it's wrong to kill them?  He's obviously a much nicer and heroic person, but that was interesting.  Mick again rebuffs him and  goes back to killing.  

Leo makes the last-minute decision to stay on Earth-1 for a bit, though he promises Ray he'll return to him on Earth-X.  We don't know why, but he may want to help Mick, as he's clearly taken an interest in his well-being.  And as we've heard hints about already, Mick doesn't like a different person wearing his partner's face, and probably won't take well to those attempts to help.

We still don't really know why Eobard is with the Nazis.  Perhaps he needed a ride back to Earth-1, or maybe he's just that much of an asshole.  Either way, the stuff he did in this crossover was pretty damned evil, and even so, Barry still couldn't kill him and just let him go.  Barry, I know he has a habit of getting out and always coming back eventually (he has out-Roscoe'd Roscoe in that department in every universe), but it still's not a great idea to just let him go free.  He wonders aloud whose face he'll be wearing the next time he comes back to hassle Barry, so his return has been guaranteed.

Incidentally, Eobard mentions that he fought Superman in the future, and claims that he was faster.  I get the feeling that’s just one of those teases we never see or hear about again, but it’s nice to imagine it!

The most brutal part of the story was the death of Martin Stein; I knew it was coming and that didn't make it any easier.  I've been grieving a death these last few weeks and it was really goddamned hard watching the characters grieve like that too.  Apparently Victor Garber wanted off the show, and while I really would have preferred he got the nice retirement Martin had been planning for much of the season, it was a good send-off.

And Barry and Iris got married, along with Felicity and Oliver.  It's unfortunate that they didn't marry in their respective series (it was the Legends episode when it happened), but it's no surprise it happened during a crossover.  There's obviously a lot of viewers watching.

Anyway, I liked the crossover overall and thought it was better than last year's.  There were a few moments that made me wince, like the more overtly Nazi imagery and inclusion of the 'Arbeit macht frei' on the concentration camp, but I'm actually glad they didn't sugar-coat the disgusting brutality of it.  Yes, it's still in the context of shows about people with super powers so there's naturally some ridiculousness there, but I'd like to think that confronting people with brutal and very human violence will make them recoil from it.  And that's something society as a whole needs very badly right now because a lot of those lessons have been forgotten.  I certainly understand why it upset some fans, though, and I hope you guys are doing okay.

Crisis on Earth X is a thing that really happened and I was surprised how many little things were in there that made me very happy. Of course it will always be a sour subject, because wtf did they think that literal Nazis were necessary?

I’m sure there are hundreds of posts talking about this anyway, it all started when news broke, what would happen and now seeing it... WHY? I am not against evil doppelgangers, I love the concept. Especially if they meet and we can see how paths diverge and the good twin, who is in some sort of emotional crisis, finds new strength/faith/believe/confidence. And this would’ve been so easy here.

I like the concept of evil Supergirl. But just have Earth X be a world that was conquered by Superman first. History changed blablabla and now there is this place where physical power reigns and while the few good people killed Superman, everything was worse when Supergirl arrived and took his place. Wow, is she pissed off, losing her planet and learning how humans killed her cousin (her last piece of family). And build the world from there.

It can still be a fascist regime, but it’s enough to have like some sort of stand-in Nazis. I don’t need swastikas, a fucking SS emblem on Supergirl’s chest and concentration camps complete with historical accurate stars of David and pink triangles. Fuck you!

And this evil Kara would still tie in perfectly with our Kara. Better than humans, doing whatever she wants, because she can. In “Supergirl” Kara had to deal with being worshipped and she there is this loneliness, because yes, she is not human and it has become a shield for her. And seeing such a perverted version of herself can be a great inner journey. But the whole Führer crap (lol Kara second-in-command, really????) takes away from that.

I’m somewhat “glad” they remembered that Felicity and Stein are jewish. Then again this came in handy for more revolting drama. I didn’t need to see Earth-X Felicity brought in like that. Also having the “Arbeit macht frei” sign including the upside down b felt so wrong, there is a very specific story behind it. It’s not like superhero stories can’t use this, it’s just... look, seeing Magneto visit Auschwitz means something. Marvel fucked up enough with Hydra!Steve. I don’t need a four episode crossover event of overall lighthearted superhero shows to crank the Nazi shit up to 11. Yes, they are getting punched and everybody gets a “I hate Nazis” line... but you fucking still tortured you two jewish characters and KILLED ONE OF THEM!!

Okay, so Professor Martin Stein was going. You wanted a big heroic death scene/sacrifice as a sucker punch for the end. Have this big loss. I get it. But don’t kill dear jewish Grandpa by faceless swastika wearing nazi soldiers............ PROTECT FELICITY AND STEIN HERE AT ALL COSTS!

I can’t even enjoy seeing The Ray and Earth-X Leo Snart smooching. It’s tainted, because remembering that other minorities were targeted (and having Alex and Sara exchange a glance there, when Stein explains the pink triangles)....... just FUCK YOU ALL.

And that very sweet double wedding ending... it’s spoiled a little bit. Because I do remember the Ronnie/Caitlin wedding, WITH STEIN OFFICIATING! Btw thank you for every moment Stein and Caitlin had. Those were amazing. And that you mentioned that wedding. (Also Caitlin clearifying that she helped with that serum and it isn’t just Cisco and Harry who do the science thing... even though FUCK YOU again, because taking it was so horrible in the end.)

Let all the doppelgangers be super-assholes, let them be villains who out-evil all the main villains. Let Eobard look like the least threatening of them all somehow. Let them kill and conquer and oppress. But you don’t need to put real life monstrosities in there for that.

Okay, okay, so that overshadows everything, but if I step back and look at this as a all-the-superheroes-meet-and-fight-and-save-each-other crossover event. It worked very well. Definitely better than last year (where Kara’s presence was not necessary, guess that’s why she was so prominent this time?) and I liked how everybody could pitch in. And getting some nice personal scenes, before and during the crisis.

I’m very much okay that Central City and “The Flash” family are like the anchor to all of this. “Arrow” was first, sure, but it’s too doom and gloom all the time. Star LABS is a great base of operations and who wouldn’t love Barry and Iris? Sara started out on “Arrow” and thank you, that she always keeps a special connection to Ollie. And Ray was in Star City first as well. Yet somehow the Legends work better in connection to “The Flash” and metahumans and all.

Alex having a little panic attack, because she had her first one night stand was somewhat cute. And I guess there’s no better person to share this with than Sara. XD And Kara cheering her on was hilarious. Yay, sorry you two had a vacation in hell there... tbh if this team needed a leader, I still think Alex would be better qualified than Oliver. Except it turned out to be about Kara and with her sister in danger all rational thought went bye-bye. We are in S6 of “Arrow” and Ollie pulls the same bs as always and I still don’t buy into him as a leader. And sorry, but Sara is the one I want in my corner when shit hits the fan, but the leading aspect... Alex is the best trained for this (as long as J’onn isn’t around), but the biggest handicap for her is not knowing these people yet. And the writers love putting Ollie front and center (on fucking both sides).

I have had a lot of ups and downs with my liking of Felicity (mainly due to rubbish writing for unnecessary drama), but she got to put her best foot forth. OMG when she stood in front of helpless Kara, bodyshielding her. PRAISE! Teaming up with Iris was really cool.

Speaking of cool, I love you, Killer Frost. :3 a) I’m pissed Führer!Ollie didn’t lose his arm to her power, she was freezing him, come on! b) Can she team up with The Ray? Because that money shot with the whole team for the last fight they gave off this Firestar/Iceman vibe. Or c) let her hang out with Amaya and Zari, that was a great girl power moment.

Look, I don’t care too much about the plot. I’m okay with “let’s conquer another earth, and we choose the one day where the most superheroes are grouped up, because we are super confident we can take them; and then we take the heart of one for a transplant”. The most important part about a crossover like this to me are the character moments. (Same goes for event comics, where writers still believe anybody gives a rat’s ass about a convuluted plot with twists they pulled out of their ass. NO WE DON’T!) Know what had me clapping with joy? The caterer at the wedding, don’t try to tell me that was anybody but the daughter of Barry and Iris from the future. That is exciting!

The only other plot device I want to UGH about was the use of Red Tornado. Loved seeing General Schott as the resistance leader. And you know what, I understand why he didn’t want to give them time in the first place. But then he does, but oh no, he orders the strike earlier anyway and suddenly Flash and Ray have to fight the weapon that would help weaken the evil that destroys this Earth. Okay, so evil Oliver and Kara die anyway and Earth-X Felicity was just send off with a gun and will inspire hope I guess... but still... the Crisis on Earth-X is not totally over.

I could go on and on. Even with some nice parts. But again, fuck you for making me cry like that. EVERYBODY PLEASE HUG JEFFERSON SOME MORE!

IT Chapter Two: Cast & Character Guide | Screen Rant

IT Chapter Two is now in cinemas, returning both audiences and the Losers' Club to the sleepy town of Derry, Maine. A sequel to 2017's IT, IT Chapter Two sees the Losers' Club all grown up but still working through the trauma of their childhood encounter with Pennywise the demon clown, as they are forced to return to their hometown to try and stop his reign of terror for good.

Adapted from Stephen King's novel of the same name, IT followed a group of pre-teens who discover the unsettling truth behind a spate of mysterious disappearances in their hometown of Derry. Children, including Losers' Club leader Bill Denbrough's younger brother Georgie, are vanishing into thin air, leaving nothing but mystery and fear in their wake. As the Losers go deeper into the town's history and try to confront the evil entity known as Pennywise, they realized their opponent is much more terrifying than they ever could have imagined.

The terrifying demon known as both "It" and "Pennywise the Dancing Clown" in the books and the films is once again portrayed by Bill Skarsgård (Castle Rock, Deadpool 2). Pennywise is an ancient demon who, as the Losers' Club discovers, has deep ties to the community of Derry. It's believed Pennywise is responsible for waves of death that sweep through Derry every 27 years. He is able to take any form and also able to create demonic projections to terrorize his victims. Pennywise feeds off the fear of his victim, so the more scared he can make them, the better.

In IT, Bill Denbrough is played by Jaeden Martell (The Book of Henry, Midnight Special). Bill's younger brother, Georgie, is the first of Pennywise's victims during his waves of attacks in 1988. Georgie's death and the subsequent appearances of Pennywise alert Bill to his existence and propel him and the Losers' Club on a quest for answers on how to defeat the demon clown.

The adult version of Bill is played by James McAvoy (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Atomic Blonde). Bill is married to a woman called Audra Philips, and he's turned his childhood talent for writing into a career. Always the unofficial leader of the Losers' Club, Bill reluctantly resumes the leadership role when Mike calls the old friends back to Derry, believing that Pennywise has returned.

The lone female member of the Losers Club in IT was Beverly Marsh, played by Sophia Lillis (who has gone on to star in HBO's Sharp Objects and Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase). As a young girl, Beverly struggles with avoiding the advances of her sexually abusive father and being bullied by other girls at school. She finds a safe haven with the Losers' Club and proves a game ally in the fight to defeat Pennywise.

In IT Chapter Two, Beverly is played by Jessica Chastain (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Interstellar, The Help). As an adult, Beverly has tried hard to escape the wounds of her childhood but has been unsuccessful. She's dating Tom Rogan, an abusive man whose bruises are still visible when she returns to Derry with the rest of the Losers' Club.

Strangers Things star Finn Wolfhard played smart-aleck Richie Tozier in IT. As a kid, Richie behaves very much like other boys his age, pushing the boundaries with subversive jokes and not trying to take anything too seriously. That all changes when Pennywise emerges and Richie makes a valiant effort to step up and help his friends defeat the demon clown.

The adult Richie is played by none other than Bill Hader, coming off a hot streak on HBO's Barry but best known for his time on Saturday Night Live. Richie grows up to be the jokester he was as a kid, turning those comedic instincts into a lucrative career as a radio DJ.

In IT, Eddie Kaspbrak is played by Jack Dylan Grazer (Shazam!, Beautiful Boy). Eddie is a hypochondriac who has been raised to fear anything too squeamish or dirty, thanks to his overbearing mother. Eddie doesn't do well when Pennywise emerges in 1988, bearing some of the terrifying brunt of Pennywise's attacks on the Losers' Club.

The adult Eddie is played by James Ransone (most recognizable for his roles in Sinister and Sinister 2). Eddie grows up to have a fulfilling, successful life in New York City. In the books, he runs a limousine company with a long list of celebrity clients, which Eddie finds exciting. He's reluctantly drawn back to Derry with the rest of the Losers' Club to take on Pennywise for a second time.

Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, 42, Ant-Man) brought to life the very sweet and sensitive Ben Hanscom in IT. As a kid, Ben is constantly bullied by Henry Bowers but is quickly taken under the Losers' Club's collective wing after befriending Beverly on the last day of school. Ben quickly emerges as one of the bravest members of the team, often stepping forward to face Pennywise and try to take him down.

As an adult, Ben is portrayed by Jay Ryan (known for his roles in Neighbours and The CW's Beauty & the Beast). In the books, Ben is still affected by his childhood encounters with Pennywise and has tried to escape the trauma. He's stayed in touch with Mike, who alerts him to Pennywise's possible return.

Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy, Once Upon a Time) played the young version of Stanley Uris in IT. Stanley as a young man is the more conservative member of the Losers' Club, often trying to rationalize what's happening while keeping the rest of the group calm. That doesn't help when Pennywise manages to terrorize him in while he's alone in his father's office.

Stanley's encounters with Pennywise in 1988 leave him forever changed and when the rest of the Losers' Club comes together and decides to go to Derry, Stanley refuses to go. We see adult Stanley, played by Swamp Thing actor Andy Bean, but as in the book he isn't as involved as the rest of the Losers.

Chosen Jacobs, whose previous credits include Castle Rock on Hulu and Hawaii Five-O, was tasked with portraying the young Mike Hanlon in IT. In 1988, Mike is initially afraid of anything too gruesome, as evidenced by his inability to euthanize a sheep on his father's farm. He links up with the Losers' Club after he sees Pennywise while making a meat delivery to the Derry butcher shop.

Isaiah Mustafa is best known from his starring role in Old Spice commercials and most recently appeared in Freeform's Shadowhunters. Mustafa has taken over for Jacobs to play Mike as an adult. Now in his 30s, Mike has stayed in Derry and become the town librarian. He's the only member of the Losers' Club who has tried to figure out the mystery behind Pennywise's origins. As such, he has a wealth of information about the town's history that will become invaluable in the fight against the demon clown.

Jackson Robert Scott as Georgie Denbrough: Jackson Robert Scott reprises his role as Bill's little brother, Georgie, one of the first victims taken by Pennywise during his last wave of crime in 1988. As was the case in IT, the real Georgie will not be seen during the film but rather a ghoulish version of him created by Pennywise to scare Bill and the Losers Club.

Jess Weixler as Audra Phillips: Indie darling Jess Weixler, whose past credits include Teeth, Listen Up Philip, and CBS' The Good Wife, plays Audra Phillips. Audra is Bill's wife who slowly becomes entangled in the Losers Club's fight against Pennywise as the film progresses.

Nicholas Hamilton and Teach Grant as Henry Bowers: Nicholas Hamilton, who played the young version of Henry Bowers in IT, returns for IT Chapter Two. Teach Grant, whose previous credits include roles on TV shows like The Terror and The 100, plays the adult Henry Bowers. Young Henry's interactions with Pennywise in IT did not bode well for him and as he grew up, those brutal tendencies he exhibited as a teenager have only grown into adulthood.

Logan Thompson as Victor Criss: Young actor Logan Thompson reprises his role as Victor Criss, the childhood friend of Henry who played a part in bullying the Losers Club.

Xavier Dolan as Adrian Mellon and Taylor Frey as Don Hagarty: French-Canadian director and actor Xavier Dolan (Mommy, Heartbeats) and newcomer Taylor Frey (Days of Our Lives, G.B.F.) appear in IT Chapter Two briefly as Adrian Mellon and Don Hagarty, a young couple in Derry who provide the Losers' Club with a reason to return home and reunite to defeat Pennywise.

Stephen Bogaert as Mr. Marsh: Beverly's horrible, abusive father, Mr. Marsh, reappears in flashbacks in IT Chapter Two. Actor Stephen Bogaert, who has previously appeared in hit movies like American Psycho and X-Men: Apocalypse, returns to the role.

Javier Botet as Hobo/The Witch: Javier Botet (REC, Mama) reprises his role from 2017's IT as Hobo, a leper man who Eddie encountered at 29 Neibolt Street, and as The Witch, an alternate form of It.

Ari Cohen as Rabbi Uris: Ari Cohen returns to play Rabbi Uris, Stanley's father who was unsympathetic to Stanley's fears of being alone in the synagogue as a child. Cohen's past credits include roles in films like Molly's Game and Maps to the Stars. 

Will Beinbrink as Tom Rogan: Will Beinbrink has been acting since the late '90s, racking up credits on hit shows like ER and Queen of the South and appearing in indie dramas like Ain't Them Bodies Saints and I Saw the Light. In IT Chapter Two, Beinbrink plays Tom Rogan, Beverly's abusive husband.

Joan Gregson as Mrs. Kersch:  Hollywood veteran Joan Gregson, whose most recognizable, recent credits include Hollywoodland and the CW reboot of Nikita. Gregson plays Mrs. Kersch, the elderly woman who now lives in Beverly's childhood home. It's revealed in the film that Mrs. Kersch's father was part of a traveling circus and he performed as Pennywise the Dancing Clown (sound familiar?).

Jake Weary as John "Webby" Garton: Weary, known for his roles in Chicago Fire and As The World Turns, plays Webby, a bully who brutally attacks Adrian and Don early in the movie. Additionally, his fellow bullies are played by Erik Junnola and Connor Smith.

Andy Muschietti as a Shop Customer: IT & IT Chapter Two director Andy Muschietti makes a brief cameo appearance in his own film, appearing as a customer at the pharmacy Eddie visits.

Peter Bogdanovich as Movie Director: Veteran director Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show) makes a surprising cameo in IT Chapter Two, playing the director of the movie adaptation of Bill's book early in the film.

Stephen King as Pawn Shop Owner: An even more surprising cameo, Stephen King appears in IT Chapter Two as the owner of the pawn shop where Bill goes to buy back his old bike, Silver. In a very meta-touch, King's character comments that he enjoyed Bill's book, but didn't like the ending.

Hauptunterschiede zwischen meinem Verse und dem Canon:

Abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass meine Fics in einem A/B/O-Verse spielen, was bedeutet, dass jeder Mensch, jeder Alien und jedes Tier ein sekundäres Geschlecht besitzt, unterscheidet sich mein Verse vor allem in Hinsicht auf die Beziehungen der Charaktere untereinander vom Canon. Die Interaktion der Leute ist auf Grund ihrer Geschlechter anders als in den Serien oder unserer Welt.

Im Laufe der Zeit ergeben sich aber zunehmende Unterschiede in den Stories selbst.

Hier ist eine Auflistung der Wichtigsten:

„Arrow“:

Dem Plotverlauf des Canon wird bis zum „Crisis on Earth-X“-Crossover gefolgt. Danach verläuft die sechste Staffel anders aber ähnlich, und endet mit Oliver im Gefängnis. Von der siebten Staffel ist nichts mehr abgesehen vom „Elseworlds“-Crossover Canon. Stattdessen herrschte nach Olivers Verhaftung mein eigenes Verse vor.

·         Oliver und Felicity haben niemals geheiratet.

·         Prometheus-X-Selbstmordversuch ist gescheitert, und er befindet sich in Argus-Gewahrsam.

·         Barry evakuiert Star City nach der Bombendrohung von Cayden James.

·         James begeht Selbstmord, nachdem er erkannt hat, dass er von Diaz betrogen wurde und sieht davon ab die Stadt zu sprengen.

·         Nach dem Ende der Bedrohung durch James besucht Oliver Tommy-X in der Haft und erklärt diesem, dass die Invasion gescheitert ist und Oliver den Führer getötet hat. Tommy schwört Rache.

·         Anatoly wendet sich bedeutend früher von Diaz ab und hilft Oliver unter der Hand.

·         OTA und NTA verstehen sich besser als im Canon, da sie sich früher versöhnen, sie bleiben aber trotzdem getrennte Teams.

·         John verlässt Oliver und Team Arrow, geht dabei aber weniger harsch mit Oliver um.

·         Quentin wird nur schwer verletzt und überlebt seine Operation, nachdem Diaz auf ihn geschossen hat.

·         Oliver ist weniger lang im Gefängnis als im Canon. Er geht einen weiteren Deal mit Watson sein, die ihn anbietet ihn frei zu lassen, wenn er für sie arbeitet.

·         Nach seiner Rückkehr aus dem Gefängnis ist Felicity deutlich kühl zu ihm, nachdem sie und William diverse Anschläge auf ihr Leben über sich ergehen lassen mussten.

·         Quentin ist nach wie vor Bürgermeister und Dinah Polizeicaptain.

·         Es gibt keinen neuen Green Arrow in der Stadt.

·         Watson jagt Diaz und die Longbow Hunters, während Oliver sein neues Team kennenlernt, zu dem auch Curtis als Tech-Specialist und Black Siren zählen. Letztere wurde zur Zusammenarbeit erpresst wurde und wie im Canon ansonsten als Laurel Lance von Erde-1 lebt.

·         .Nach einer schief gegangenen Mission im Kampf gegen die Longbow Hunters modelt Oliver sein Strike Team nach seinen Wünschen um, und nimmt Rene in dieses auf, bringt Curtis zurück ins Feld und kurbelt eine Zusammenarbeit mit Argus an, was dazu führt, dass er wieder mit Diggle arbeitet.

·         William bleibt in all dieser Zeit immer an der Seite seines Vaters.

·         Dafür verlässt Felicity Oliver endgültig.

Prometheus-X hat sich inzwischen mit Black Siren und Per Degaton verbündete, was zum Verschwinden des Flash und zur Finale Vrisis führt. Black Siren opfert sich um das Multiversum zu retten. Nach der Finale Crisis verlassen Oliver und Laurel die Liga und wollen Team Arrow neu aufbauen. Dinah hat unterdessen geheiratet und wurde Mutter, Rene ist weggezogen, und Curtis war Mitglied der Liga, bis er gemeinsam mit seinen neuen Liebsten Rory Regan wegzog. Tommy-X versucht sich ein letztes Mal zu rächen, doch er scheitert, weil er verwirrenden Emotionen unterworfen ist. Oliver bringt ihn in eine Heilanstalt auf Erde-4, wo er den dortigen Green Arrow Tommy Merlyn kennenlernt. Oliver beginnt dann William als Kämpfer auszubilden, der nach seinem Vater den Mantel des Green Arrow übernimmt.

Ramblings: Niederreiter Canes’ Debut, Trocheck Return, Demko Debut (Jan 19)

One day after being traded for Victor Rask, Nino Niederreiter made his Carolina Hurricanes’ debut. He was held without a point, took four shots on goal, and skated a total of 16:57 on a line with Justin Williams and Greg McKegg along with second-unit power play time. Obviously this is a fluid situation as Niederreiter adjusts to his new team, but this doesn’t seem like the kind of usage that would motivate me to add Niederreiter right away (24% owned in Yahoo leagues). Could the latest hot goalie be Anders Nilsson? I’ll admit that I’ve had absolutely no interest since he was traded to Ottawa, but he’s now won four of his last five games while posting a 1.60 GAA and .951 SV% over that span. After a mainly forgettable stint with the Canucks, Nilsson has settled in as the Sens’ starter while Craig Anderson is sidelined.

One Panthers’ scoring center returned to the lineup perhaps earlier than expected, but another one could potentially miss some time. Vincent Trocheck recorded an assist while dishing seven hits in his first game since fracturing his ankle two months ago. (I sure didn’t have that recovery time when I fractured my ankle!) Trocheck played on a line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Nick Bjugstad, although he skated on the second-unit power play.

However, Aleksander Barkov received x-rays on his hand after the game. The injury occurred late in the third period, although he stayed in for the entire game. The Panthers are right back at it today (Saturday), so keep an eye on Barkov’s status. If Barkov is out, then Trocheck could very well move back to his spot on the first-unit power play.

Thatcher Demko made his season debut and looked impressive, being named the game’s first star. He was the main reason the Canucks won 4-3 over Buffalo, as the Canucks were outshot 39-23. Here’s one of Demko’s 36 saves.

With Jacob Markstrom playing perhaps the best hockey of his NHL career, and with the Canucks surprisingly in a playoff race (yes, they now hold the final wild card spot in the West), it’s unlikely that Demko is going to play a ton this season. It’s difficult for me even as a Canucks’ fan to project what the goaltending will be like next season, but I’d think that Demko should be able to get into at least 30 games. Even though it may take some time before he’s undoubtedly the Canucks’ starter, he’s still very much a blue-chip goalie prospect. The Canucks may have one of the league’s better goaltending tandems for the rest of the season.  

Evan Rodrigues scored again for the Sabres, giving him goals in three consecutive games. He couldn’t score at all when he was on the top line, but now he’s scoring while on a line with Jason Pominville and Vladimir Sobotka. Go figure.

It couldn’t have gone any better for Barry Trotz in his return to Washington. Thomas Greiss stopped all 19 shots he faced in the Isles’ 2-0 win over the defending Stanley Cup champions. Greiss has struggled at times this season, but he’s allowed just one goal with a .983 SV% over his last two starts. Like Robin Lehner, he’s benefitted from the Barry Trotz/Mitch Korn influence.

Speaking of Lehner, there were plenty of comments about him on the Ramblings and Facebook yesterday. I’ve mentioned this before, but it’s important to bring up the drug addiction and mental illness that he has overcome as key reasons for his breakout season. Along with the Vezina Trophy, Lehner should definitely be considered for the Masterton Trophy. If you have an Athletic subscription, take the time to read this October 26 piece on his addiction and bipolar diagnosis.

Someone commented that they weren’t sure what Lehner’s value would be next season with him only being signed to a one-year contract with the Islanders. That’s a very good point, because the Isles also own the rights to Ilya Sorokin, who is dominating the KHL (32 GP, 1.17 GAA, .942 SV%). According to Arthur Staple, Sorokin would be on a one-year, waiver-exempt deal if he decided to come over next season (which he is reportedly interested in), although it’s no sure thing when it comes to the KHL. There are also the Sergei Bobrovsky rumors, which you can read more about in the article. Either way, it’s not looking good if you’re holding out hope that Greiss will be the starter.

Dylan Larkin had an outstanding game on Friday, scoring two goals on eight shots and logging 21:49 in icetime. Larkin now has six points over his last three games, and he is scoring at a near point-per-game pace (47 points in 49 games). He and Gustav Nyquist are carrying the Wings scoring-wise right now. I thought I might be saying that about Larkin coming into the season, but definitely not about Nyquist, who is now up to 42 points in 49 games. With the chemistry that Larkin and Nyquist have developed this season, I don’t think that Nyquist owners should get too excited about a trade at the deadline, particularly if it means Nyquist will be pushed down another team’s depth chart.

Sam Bennett scored two power-play goals and added an assist on Friday. The former high first-round pick has been playing in the Flames’ bottom six with a familiar name who has disappeared from the fantasy landscape recently. James Neal scored a goal and added an assist himself, giving him points in three of his past four games. If you’re still holding out hope for Neal (and I hope you aren’t), it seems as though a move out of Calgary would be in order. But at a $5.75 million per season cap hit through the 2022-23 season, that seems very unlikely. He is on the fast track to becoming what Loui Eriksson is to the Canucks or Milan Lucic is to the Oilers.

I know there probably aren’t a lot of TJ Brodie fans reading this. However, with a goal and two assists on Friday, Brodie now has nine points (3g-6a) in nine games this month. He’s been paired with the now point-per-game Mark Giordano (another player who has performed a lot better than I expected) for most of the season, so some of those points have to be rubbing off.

Giordano, by the way, has 13 points over his last 10 games. In spite of my lower projection for him, he still ended up on one of my teams. I have to give autopick credit for that one.

Since the team-imposed suspension on Sergei Bobrovsky, Joonas Korpisalo has started four of the past games for the Blue Jackets. A three-game winning streak might have had something to do with it, but Korpisalo had that streak snapped on Friday against Montreal. Since the Jackets are right back at it on Saturday, expect Bobrovsky to be back between the pipes against the Wild. With Bob’s future likely not to be in Columbus after this season, this is a situation worth monitoring. I don’t see Bobrovsky being traded at the deadline, though. Not with the Jackets in a battle for first place in the Metro Division (which the Islanders now lead!)

Tomas Tatar had gone ten games without a goal, but he scored two on Friday night against the Blue Jackets. Joel Armia also scored twice for the Canadiens in their 4-1 win.

Frozen Pool Forensics is back with a new author. In his debut piece, Grant Campbell discusses the defense partner of Erik Karlsson. Although Brenden Dillon typically isn’t an appealing name for fantasy teams, he has been on a roll lately with six points (all assists) over his last seven games.

As he does every week, Adam Daly-Frey previews the upcoming schedule in Looking Ahead, which includes listing the 10 teams that do not play at all next week. It is literally an entire bye week for those 10 teams because bye weeks now happen either before or after All-Star Weekend. This is a new wrinkle in the schedule, which makes things particularly tricky for leagues that don’t combine the next two weeks into one “week.” My Yahoo head-to-head league has combined these two weeks, while my CBS head-to-head league has not. Be sure to check your league settings to find out whether these two weeks are combined or separated.  

The other 21 teams only play over the first three days of next week, with the last four days being set aside for the All-Star break. All the teams return to action the week after the All-Star Game, although the other 21 teams will be on their bye week and will thus take the first four days of the week off. Notes of The Flash 4x08 (Crisis on Earth-X, Part III)

They actually went for Arbeit Macht Frei. They are not fucking around.

Just to recap: we're at a concentration camp, pink triangles, yellow stars, Arbeit Macht Frei above the gates; Nazi Quentin Lance has just bragged about murdering his own daughter for being bisexual, and our heroes - three LGB (no Ts are present), one black, one Jewish, plus two others - are in front of a firing squad over a ditch for easy disposal into mass graves. It's hard to see how this is glamourising Nazis.

This escape is a totally contrived narrative convenience, and I love it.

And Mr. Miller is clearly having a blast as the more extroverted Leo.

The KaraX scene. Revelling in her own personal take on this poxy excuse for an ideology; and at its core, it's nano-millimetres removed from what we've seen on Earth-38. Noice.
