So last night, the shamash candle kept going out. It literally couldn't keep a flame going, and I had no replacement candle. I was giving up on trying to light it so I turned away, only to turn back, and the candle was lit. I think what happened was it barely had a flame going, but with all the tall flames from the other candles, it was able to actually start burning. Something is very evocative about that, I think, something about the helper candle being helped.

“You know him?” “He teaches high school biology, yeah.” Wendy shrugs. “Keeps to himself, though; lives alone, never talks about family, really didn’t appreciate that one time a bunch of teens tried ding-dong-ditch at his place. Half the kids are convinced he’s some kind of mad scientist.” Dipper mumbles something an awful lot like, “Yeah, I can see that,” and Mabel frankly has to agree. Grunkle Ford does not give off the most sane impression all the time. Awful lot of muttering and scribbling and not sleeping. Maybe that’s what he’s hiding – a secret lab in some secret basement, or something! Mabel hums and flops her sleeves to her face, shooting a grin at Dipper.

“I just need ta’ explain something to her!” Gideon protests, eyelashes fluttering a mile a minute. Dipper could punch him. Almost does, actually, but Mabel gripping his arm and Grunkle Ford shifting slightly in front of him holds him back. “Honest! What happened was an accidenHEY!” And now Ford plucks Gideon up by the back of his little powder-blue jacket and drops him over the porch railing to the ground. “Off my property,” he snaps. “Now. And don’t let me catch you skulking around here again. I will throw you.” There’s an awful lot of lil’ rage coming from the nuisance child, at least three accusations of being “old” and “decrepit” and “an unspeakable miser who drops children” and Ford doesn’t bother to deign any of it with a response. The door shuts on the squeaky complaints, which then filter in through the windows, and the three of them collectively grimace when the volume increases to account for the door. “How long has he been a problem for?” Grunkle Ford asks the twins, and they shrug. “About a week,” Mabel says, the same moment Dipper says, “Two weeks.” They swear they hear him mutter, “perhaps I should set some traps,” under his breath, but he shakes his head. “Tell me if he bothers you again. If anyone bothers you, for that matter.”

Mabel is the one who finds a door that sticks, softly glowing as if hiding a flickering light, tattered and dinged and belonging to the shack. She grabs the knob and turns it, expecting either some kitchen disaster – they’ve happened before – or maybe something with her and Dipper, or maybe that disastrous first day with Waddles – and finds Blood. Normally, seeing that this isn't Ford's office in the house, she’d duck back out, but blood is a new one. She hears shallow breaths, sees the stairs up to the attic shrouded in gloom and cobwebs, and a crumpled heap of limbs at the bottom. A hand twitches, nails worn down to the quick and oozing streaks of red, and she counts – one, two, three, four, five, six fingers in the shadows before she wrenches herself back from the memory and slams the door shut. It echoes. Loudly. “Mabel?” Dipper asks behind her, and she shakes her head. “Not this one,” she quips, pale. “Nope.”

Oh definitely! All of Leo/need and anyone close to Saki would have mixed feelings about the situation. Even Saki herself!

Ghosts in this PJSK Monster AU are rare, usually coming into being when the person passes with strong regrets/wishes and/or unfinished business.

It is true that ghosts will disappear once their business is finished, but in Saki's case her wish is to reunite and be with her friends until the end (cuz I gotta have da childhood friends be together forever 😢).

Taking that wish literally, it's more-so safe to say Saki will be around until after all of Leo/need is gone. Which sounds nice until you think about how being a ghost causes Saki to lack a lot of things (least physically).

By being non-corporeal, Saki loses the ability to age as well as the ability to physically feel anything. Years will go by and she'll look like she hasn't aged a day, while everyone else around her grows old and graying. Over time she might forget what it's like to be held in a loving hug/embrace, to be able to remember the taste of her favorite foods, or even recall the scent of blooming flowers.

I could honestly probably go on a while on how being a ghost works within the AU, but it's also still kinda a work in progress 💀 Point is!! It's terrifying and unsettling honestly, for everyone Saki knows.

It's good that she can still exist within the realm even as a spirit, but deep down they know they can't gloss over how her physical body is now gone. They're all aware of the implications of being a ghost, so they can't help but feel like they've lost someone dear to them despite her still being in front of them.

I'd like to think that until the end of their days, they'll still hold onto that loss. But they'll also cherish the extra time they've been given to still make memories with Saki. (Plus thinking about the ordeal of mortality and spirits can get overwhelming so 😵‍💫😵‍💫 best not to dwell on it!!)

Happy birthday Nagito, you're a horse now

So I've had a couple designs hanging around unfinished. Since it's a certain lucky disaster's birthday today, I figured now as good a time to post these as any! You can consider these guest stars or background ponies in the AU, mostly just doing these for fun and not necessarily thinking about how they'd fit into the AU too much since it's DRA focused and all.

First up, Fleeting Fortune!

I'll keep this short, the main thing of note is his cutie mark; he's 'cursed' in a similar way to the other lucky pony I designed and has some wheel of fortune elements. I imagined something like his coat slowly bleaching more and more after getting his cutie mark. Also, he has a bit of an interesting cutie mark, as it changes depending on which part of the luck cycle he's in. The arrow will spin to the next section to indicate the flow of either bad or good fortune, over and over, as the cycle continues.

Next we have some mysterious guest background ponies... A griffon and an earth pony. you know what, let's play a game. If people can guess who they are without me naming them, I'll know I did a good job haha.

It was actually pretty tough coming up with color palettes for these two, especially our griffon friend here. I would also like everyone to know that this griffon is a blend of a tiger and a hoopoe bird. The hoopoe bird is mostly just because they look cool, fit the aesthetic, and helped me make a somewhat presentable mohawk. But the tiger bits were a must. Plus some diamonds for good measure. As for our earth pony, this is the first time I've ever drawn dreads on a pony, so that was fun haha. I did work a little off of Tree Hugger's hair a bit for that. Also, I imagine this earth pony as being a bit scruffy and I almost went for a goat hybrid but I ended up settling on just a little bit of bearding and fluff instead of the whole cloven hooves and horns thing haha.

Anyways, hope you're all doing good out there! The pony train continues.
