my final piece i did last year for the wonderful @batgirlzine!! i had a wonderful time working on this project and am honoured to have been able to be a part of it <3 big thank you to the moderators who organized the zine and everybody else involved ^^ leftover physical copies will be available in the following weeks if anybodys interested!

I can finally post my full contribution piece for the @batgirlzine!! The mods had been having a really rough time trying to get the zine out but they did it!! Godspeed!! 🤧

This zine was such a blast for me, and this piece was truly the pinnacle of my skill at the time. I loved this piece, and still do. So thank you to the team for letting me have the chance to make this piece!

LEGACIES: a Batgirl zine has come to a close. While it technically wrapped up in November, there were severe personal complications before the holidays that resulted in the late conclusion of this project, so I apologize immensely to anyone who might have been waiting on another round of leftovers that I had not already touched base with.

For those of you who I have not already spoken to via email this month: this is Kye's mother, and I am finalizing things on my daughter's behalf as she has not been fit for the responsibility. I apologize wholeheartedly for the delay and unfair communication issues this has resulted in.

All remaining physical leftovers were shipped out at the end of October, and have been safely delivered by mid-November at the latest, as far as tracking and communication with customers indicates.

Digital Bundles were emailed out at the start of November, so if you have not received it, check spam, junk or promotions folders for your goods.

If you have had issues receiving either of the above, do not hesitate to reach out at batgirlszine@gmail.com with questions.

With that, the project is a wrap. It has been a long one, for which we cannot apologize enough, or thank you for your patience and sticking with it, and ultimately supporting this project and its showcase of the Batgirls.

Please remember to give all the writers and artists involved love on the pieces they have posted, and the incredible work they put into this. It would not exist without them, and they worked hard not only through the project itself, but through several months of a difficult wrap-up process wherein they were forcibly left to wait without updates as well. Please send them your kind words on their pieces, as you have done through the project's email or direct messages throughout its run.

This was written for @batgirlzine​! This was my first project of the kind for me: an opportunity to be paid for my writing, which absolutely blew me away. Steph hooks her toes through the strap of her bag and drags it over while Cass folds her arms over her bent knees. Barbara only clicks her tongue, the last admonishment she tries, seeing as the first was already ignored.

“Alright Steph, you want to call this impromptu girls’ night to order?”

“Cass, read me the minutes from our last meeting,” Steph says, and only sighs at the odd look she gets in return. To her credit, at least Barbara looks amused as she rounds the couch again. She digs through her bag for her sketchbook, the corners of the cover and first few pages bent backwards. The GOOD JOB sticker Tiffany once gave her stands out in bold purple and yellow. “I think it’s time to talk suit redesigns.”

“Do you not like yours?” Cass asks.

“Oh, I like it just fine and it’s extremely high fashion right now, but internal bleeding is so last season. A little extra padding and kevlar is forecasted to be super on trend this year.”

“And here I thought most girls' nights involved more ice cream and rom coms and less trying to bulletproof an outfit,” Barbara mutters.

This year I had the honor of writing for ‘Making of the Mask-A Batgirl Zine’ ( @batgirls-zine ). The talented @nightlybirdie illustrated the piece which accompanies my story. Check them out! Their work is fantastic. So many amazing, creative people worked on this zine. It was truly an honor to work with all of them.

A Night in the Life by DayenuRose

Excerpt:

Halfway across Gotham, the hands of the Clocktower struck nine pm as Barbara Gordon rolled her wheelchair through the crowded bullpen of Gotham PD. It was still early enough that the hallmark Gotham craziness hadn’t yet begun. Just give it a little time.

The door of the commissioner’s office was closed. It was enough to deter most from entering, but Babs wasn’t just anybody. Her father had long ago realized it was nigh on impossible to keep her out of what he considered mischief if she had her mind set.

His desk was littered with a mess of papers and files, but Babs recognized the underlying system. Careful not to disturb anything, she scanned the papers for any relevant data concerning her evening’s caseload. She already had a backdoor into the police computers, but having an eye on the Commissioner’s desk was just one benefit of being his daughter.

“Hi Babs,” Jim Gordon called as he entered his office, utterly unsurprised by his daughter’s presence. “To what do I owe the honor?”

That Batgirls zine that's coming out looks really fucking cool.

“I’m thinking we keep some of the cool gadgets but reexamine the torso,” she starts, absently pawing through her still open bag for her array of colored pencils. Cass leans into her shoulder, spoon caught in her teeth. “A little extra padding around the ribs—not like, super thick or ‘I can’t put my arms down,’ though.”

“Enough that it doesn’t feel like a baseball bat is going to snap you in half?” Barbara offers. Steph leans her head back onto the couch to look at her upside down. Her next breath tugs at her sore ribs a little.

“See? You get it.”

Barbara smirks and rolls her eyes a little, and Steph goes back to her sketch. For a few minutes it’s quiet, and it’s easy to get lost in her drawing. The redesign on the previous page hadn’t exactly been up to her standards this morning, and black ink still stains the side of her palm from where she’d smeared through it earlier. Now, her head tilts a touch as she traces her way along the page, pausing just long enough to swap out one color for the next, letting them blossom across the design before an errant curl catches her in lashes until Cass brushes it out of her eye and breaks her out of her trance.

“You should draw more,” she says. “It suits you. You look peaceful.”

“Probably shouldn’t quit my day job,” Steph says, sticking the end of her pencil in her mouth as she holds up her sketchbook. She nudges Cass with her elbow in a silent thanks.

the snippet above is by the amazing @thychesters who I got to collab with in the @batgirlzine!! we’ve been friends for just over a decade and finally got to do a piece together, and her words just blew me away. working with her and everyone else on the team was a dream come true, and I’m so glad I got to participate!! 🥰
