BTAS Penguin x Artist!Reader - A Portrait for The Penguin

You knew better than to stay up as late as you did in your studio. The last thing you needed was for Oz to grow concerned and have the surprise spoiled early. 

You couldn’t help it though, you were so close to getting the portrait done. 

As you painted his long black hair, you paint in the rich colors of his three piece suit, and you added detail to his monocle, including the small light reflecting off of it. You found your heart swell as the man you love slowly came to life on canvas. 

You hoped that maybe, just maybe, with this painting Oswald can catch a glimpse of how you see him. An intelligent, cultured, and handsome man whom the world turned they’re back on purely because of his physical traits. 

When he asks curiously just what subject could you be painting that has you so wound up in your studio. He couldn’t recall the last time you stowed away for hours on end in your studio. 

You did your best to act indifferent. You were just in a motivated mood to get it done today…something generic but not entirely false. You assure him you’ll show it to him tomorrow once the paint is dried and the colors fully settle.

As the morning sun pierced through the slit between your curtains, you almost leaped out of bed. Like a child on Christmas morning, you gently nudged Oswald awake, it takes some time but finally, you both get out of bed. 

You didn’t waste any time, not even bothering with breakfast. You grabbed his hand and immediately led him to your studio. 

“Well, well, I don’t think I’ve seen you this enthused about any of your pieces. Am I witnessing you’re magnum opus, beloved?” Oswald chuckled sleepily. 

You smiled widely with a hint of pride. You never thought about it, but it may as well be your magnum opus. You captured the person you loved the most forever on canvas, painted painstakingly by hand fueled by a concoction of your skill and loving devotion to him. 

“Well, possibly…I think it could be.” You replied as you made your way around your easel and grabbed the loose edges. 

“Are you ready, Oz?” You inquired, not being able to resist building the suspense. 

“Of course, darling!” 

You breathed and gently stripped the fabric off the canvas and easel. Slowly, the portrait was revealed. 

Silence hung in the room like a damp towel for a beat. You walked around and saw a clear reaction of shock on Oswald’s face. 

Oz was speechless, his jaw hung open, and his eyes were widen like saucers. 

For a moment, you became self-conscious of your work…what if..he didn’t like it? 

“W-Well…what do you think, Ozzie?” You asked trying to null the silence. 

Oswald is trying to find the words. He shook his head and smacked his jaw open and close trying to make his tongue and lips form words. 

“I-I-I…Is-Is that...me?” 

“Of course, darling.” You smiled brightly. 

Oz walked closer to the easel. He admired every detail. 

For once, he got to see himself and actually liked what he saw. 

“Is…is this how you see me?” Oswald asked in a hush whisper, still not taking his eyes off the portrait. 

“Yes, Ozzie. I hoped that…maybe even for just a moment, it would help you get a glance at how I see you. How I adore you, darling.” You walked up behind him and embraced him from behind. 

You two stood in comfortable silence. You both admired the art and the presence of each other. 

“You’ve absolutely outdone yourself, my dove.” Oswald chuckled. “I-I love it…I can tell you put your whole heart into. The heart that I love.” He turned around to face you. 

Instinctively, you both leaned down and shared a sweet grateful kiss. When you slowly pulled away from the kiss, a question came to mind. 

“Now, where should we display it?” You asked giddily. 

Oswald laughed. “Oh there’s plenty of possibilities, my dove, but before we display it…I have one condition.”

You titled your head in confusion. 

He chuckled heartily some more. “My portrait can’t be by itself! You must paint yourself so that they can go together! Yes, together forever, a beautiful love forever captured on canvas.” 

Your heart swelled. Just when you think that Oswald couldn’t absolutely get more romantic. 

“I’ll be sure to get right on it.”

Scarecrow, Two Face, Penguin, Mad Hatter, and Mr. Freeze with a Partner who Sleeps With A Plush of Them

Inspired by the Scarecrow and Two Face plushies I sewed.

Scarecrow

You had spent days hand-sewing this plush doll of Jonathan Crane, and though it wasn't perfect, you had put a lot of love into it.

The doll appeared to stare up at you with its button eyes while you held its floppy, huggable body and stroked its soft hair. It was like an exact copy of Jonathan, just smaller. And probably less likely to commit crimes.

Jonathan would be incredibly surprised to see the plush- lots of times when people made artistic interpretations of him they were meant to be terrifying. He had never seen a version of himself this...cuddly. He doesn't mind it, though. In fact, he's quite flattered.

When you tell him about how you cuddle the plush at night he practically melts.

Two Face

You made most of the plush Two Face with soft minky fabric, but decided to add something extra- faux fur on the white side of his hair and dot textured minky for his scars. He was perfect.

The first time you showed it to Harvey, he was speechless. His fingers ran across the soft fabrics you had used to capture him so lovingly, and you might have even seen a tear roll down the unscarred side of his face. Two Face is the one to break the silence, saying "you really want to cuddle me that much?"

When you admit to them you cuddle the plush at night to feel close to them, they immediately wrap you in a massive hug. You hug them back of course, making sure to kiss their scars.

Penguin

Oswald had always been insecure about his appearance, and no matter how much you tried to encourage and support him with words, hugs, everything...it always seemed as if his trauma would make him feel unworthy of you. So you got an idea. You would show him exactly how you saw him, in the form of a cuddly plushie.

You had to modify your pattern quite a bit to make it accurate, but it was worth it. The plush Penguin sat before you with its arms outstretched, just waiting to be held.

You paid extra attention to translating the parts of himself Oswald was insecure about into the plush- intricately sewn hands, a prominent beak-like nose, his cuddly, plump body, and of course his long, soft hair.

You're a bit nervous to show the plush to him as you're not sure how he'll react, so you start kind of awkwardly.

"Uh...I...I really wanted to show you how wonderful you are in my eyes and I...I adore every single part of you, so I made this..."

Oswald doesn't know what to think at first, but he's incredibly touched. He still tries to play it cool, of course.

"I mean, you could always have a life-sized version of me if you want."

Catch him off guard by kissing his nose and wrapping him in a hug.

Mad Hatter

Okay, uh.. You didn't sew this one. You just kinda found a Disney Mad Hatter plushie on Ebay or something and thought it reminded you of Jervis.

(Fun fact, I actually do have this plush and he's very soft!)

Even if you didn't sew it, Jervis freaking loves it. You want to cuddle? With him??? So badly that you got a plushie to hold when he wasn't there to comfort you????

Mr. Freeze

This man is very insecure about how he's unable to cuddle you due to his physical state, so you get an idea.

The plush was honestly kind of hard to make, with all the intricate details of his suit, but it was absolutely worth it. You even added a voice box inside so you could hear his sweet German accent whenever you wanted.

Also you added a small tuft of fluffy fabric for his hair, (ik BTAS doesn't have that but HQTAS does and I freaking love it so it's going here!)

He absolutely cries when you show it to him.

You wrap your arms around him when he does, it stings a bit but it's worth it to see him smile.

For Christmas that year you make him a Nora plushie, with magnets in her hands so she can hold hands with your Mr. Freeze plush.

You better believe he cuddles his Nora plush every day. It's not even close to having his wife back of course, but it does relieve some of the pain to get to hold her again.

● Luckily whenever he's tailing behind you upper management seems to lay off. How nice, some even offer a bit of extra help and allow you more frequent breaks!

● They'll offer to get you more comfortable shoes, socks, they'll offer to carry you around as well! They'll also see if he can find any medicine like painkillers that could help, hey that's another idea, see if you could get a medical exemption. They're really just trying to help in any way you'll let them.

Oswald likes to quote writers, especially Shakespeare, his great love for classical literature gave him the opportunity to know many great quotes and phrases at any moment of his life. Oz quotes them for you. You're the only person who finds it more endearing than weird. Not everyone can praise you with a quote

Oswald would probably give you a bird for your birthday. He takes it very seriously, as he does everything. But he wants the bird to become not only a gift, but also your friend. He starts talking about birds and asks which breed you like more. Therefore, you may be surprised or not when you have a bird in your pet.

Oh, don't forget that Oz is a passionate ornithologist, he not only finished his education on them for the sake of a tick, he sincerely loves birds, after all, they were his only childhood friends. He likes to tell you about the birds that you met on the street or that you are asking to tell you about. In the evening, when you are at home, it can turn into a real lecture. You swear that you have never seen a person so passionate about anything, joyful eyes and a wide smile are all you need for happiness

You will have your own personal umbrella. Yes, the same modified umbrella that he always carries with him. To protect himself, he knows that the streets of Gotham are not as safe as he would like, and if he is not around, he would like you to be able to protect yourself. But! Okay in all seriousness, he loves it, even if you get in the way of his work. Do it in public, in private, anywhere. He takes beatings from batman daily, if you think he can't handle his pretty dove sitting on his lap, you're wrong.

When it first happens, he's caught off guard. At first he thinks you want to head to the bedroom, but when you wrap your arms around him and nuzzle into his neck, he knows that's not the case.

Even if what he's working on is important, you're always first priority, anything you want goes, he is one of the strongest men in the city, after all.

If it's a regular thing, he might offer some alternatives though, because he still does need to fill out some paperwork and go through the bills for the lounge. More often than not though, he'd be happy to let you cuddle against him while he counts his cash or thinks up a new plan to take down batman.

Before the both of you knew it the day finally came for Oswald's release. 

Oswald wouldn't need to rely on the public bus this time. You were already standing beside your car on the other side of the road. Absolutely beaming. 

You were waving, practically about to jump out of your shows with joy. "Ozzie!" 

He smiled widely, he stole glances both ways to make sure the coast was clear to make a beeline for you. When he was finally within arms reach it took everything in you not to squeeze the absolute life out of him.

Oswald's heart immediately swelled, he was so grateful to finally be back in your arms, back where he was meant to be, back home. 

You cup his face with your hands and bring him in for a passionate fulfilling kiss. Oz was caught off guard after years of being restricted from your affection, but he'd have no problem getting used to them again. 

You slowly leaned back and giggled at the surprised expression on Oswald's face. 

"C'mon Ozzie! Let's go home!" You beamed as you rounded the front of the car to get in the driver's seat.

A flock of various birds, in all sorts of colors, sizes, and species came flying to the front door of the studio apartment.

You couldn’t help but beam gleefully at the happy reunion. 

Once the birds had their fill, they took off back to their perches.

You bent down to help Oz back to his feet and dust off his coattails. You lead him over to the purple loveseat in the middle of the living room. Once he sat down, you went to the kitchen and began making his favorite tea. 

“Oh thank you, my dove!” Oz gladly took the cup and sipped it generously. 

“Of course, darling! Welcome home.” You smiled sweetly as you pecked his cheek. 

You sat down next to him, before you spoke again, “so…we don’t have to do anything today, if you just want to relax…”

Oz quirked an eyebrow. “Did you have something in mind, dear?” 

You shrugged before you listed off how later that afternoon there was a showing of one of Oswald’s favorite operas and following that you had made reservations to his favorite fine dining restaurant just a walking distance from the opera house. 

Oswald’s eyes sparkled. He could never imagine being treated to all his favorite delights, not to mention sharing those delights with a special someone that captivated his heart the way you have. 

He grabbed your hand and held it to his heart. He smiled as he said, “darling that sounds absolutely marvelous!”

Harvey is a bit gentler when it comes to cuddling, he'll wrap his arms around you as you lay on his chest and listen to his heartbeat.

Two Face wants to squeeze you as tight as he can, and for you to squeeze him back.

They alternate spoons as well. Harvey loves holding you and watching you fall asleep in his arms, but he also adores when you wrap your arms around him and use him as a human pillow. Two Face is kinda the same except he prefers being the little spoon.

I love the way you write Oswald, and I want to see this man leading up to a wedding. I’m in a super sappy mood, so hope this floats your boat.

I picture Oswald obsessing and Fretting to make everything absolutely perfect for a wedding; and as a result a massive ball of stress . I’d lovereader trying to help him relax (making a sweet home dinner date, massage, please calm down thoughtful things, etc.) and broaching the subject of the wedding after he’s nice and calm. Telling him reader is just happy to be marrying him— like, “as long as i have you that’s all that matters”. And he realizes this is his forever, and reader truly just loves him for him and not the things he can offer. Maybe spicy time too because you’re so dang good at writing spicy time ;)
