The Battle of Midway, fought June 4-7, 1942, was a pivotal clash in the Pacific Theater of World War II, six months after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor. Japan, aiming to expand its Pacific dominance, targeted Midway Atoll to lure and destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet, particularly its aircraft carriers. U.S. intelligence, having broken Japanese codes, learned of Admiral Yamamoto’s plan, allowing Admiral Chester Nimitz to prepare a counter-ambush. Both sides amassed significant naval forces, with Japan deploying four carriers and the U.S. relying on three, setting the stage for a decisive confrontation.

Finish Stuff Friday: Delayed Edition.
This is the 1/48 SBD from Academy that I started way back in February? Sometimes Academy kits can be very fiddly. I remember their TBM from when I was younger, I hated that thing. I hated this thing. The cockpit was just so fragile. I ended up snapping the rear gunners seat after the fuselage was together, and couldn't get it back in because it was bigger than the opening. So I sort of just shelved this thing for a while. I ended up working on an old vintage Monogram Texan that had a read gunner position that would work well enough. Not correct for the SBD, but good enough for my shelf.
Aside from that, I do believe I painted this 3 times before I was happy with the paintjob. Overall I'm happy enough with this, glad that it's over. This kit represents a Dauntless from the U.S.S. Enterprise CV6 during the Battle of Midway.

Listened to John Williams’ military score “Midway”.
You probably think that “Saving Private Ryan” or “War Horse” are Williams’ military soundtracks but they’re not. “Midway” (1976) IS.
Here’s what you didn’t know: the 19-year old Williams joined the Air Force in 1951 until 1955. He was assigned to the Air Force Band, he played the piano and brass instruments… and wrote arrangements.
He revisited that period here. Wrote some marches of his own instead of arranging other composers’ music.

Yorktown may have been repaired after Coral Sea, but in the end, she met her end at Midway alongside two-thirds of the Kido Butai Pearl Harbor attack force, so her sacrifice was not in vain since her planes and those of the Enterprise and Hornet took out four of the Imperial fleet carriers that destroyed Battleship Row.

She left Pearl Harbor the next day to participate in the Battle of Midway. USS WEST VIRGINIA (BB-48), sunk in the December 7, 1941 Japanese air attack, is being salvaged in the left distance."
