found myself thinking of Blaise this afternoonsies, and how his courtship/post war life was like.
Cause like. You know. His brother is defeated, his parents are DEAD, he abolishes the monarchy bc fuck it. it's stupid. So now he works with Mother Nature to establish the democracy esque thing Crystal Springs is, and like, I'm sure that was a LOT but like I'm thinking specifically about his PERSONAL life right??
Like. He would NOT want to go back to live in the castle, even IF they hadn't imprisoned Pyros in there. Where did he live, you know? Did he sleep in MN's Garden until City Hall was built? Maybe it already WAS built? Did he go to Winter like hey, cool first date idea--wanna help me find my own place? :3
Just thinking of Blaise like, getting his LIFE together is plaguing my THOUGHTS. All of that PLUS he's crushing HARD on Winter (and she on him) and they're sort of seeing each other a few decades after the civil war, and just. MY BRAIN IS GOING CRAZY Y'ALL!
BLAISE! HECK! PUTTING YOUR LIFE TOGETHER AFTER LEAVING A TOXIC SITUATION! THAT FEELING WHEN YOU FINALLY MOVE OUT AND GET TO ADULT! DID HE GET A ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT IN A TREE SOMEWHERE WITH JUST A MATTRESS? AND DID WINTER GO "We'll have to hunt down some furniture for you" but Blaise, with this big smile, looking at his mattress and chair and desk just like "This is PERFECT right now :)"
They establish the Assembly, the cities and towns establish their own leaders, there's a group of reps from each province elected to serve on the assembly, and slowly but surely crystal springs is becoming this wonderful place, and Blaise is getting good at leading the BIG CITY, enough that each election he sails through it.
And maybe he thinks to himself like, "do they keep voting me in bc I'm good? or bc they're so use to a monarchy that they don't want to change things up?" not that he minds, of course, he loves what he and Mother Nature have turned the city, the provinces, THE COUNTRY into!
He and Winter go on many dates and he showers her with roses and he decides to propose and they talk about where they'd live and how many kids they'd have and do you think they could manipulate BOTH ELEMENTS? And he finally proposes and Wintr THAWS bc of their LOVE and it's al so MUCH and they break into city hall to elope the day OF, trouble be DAMNED and how nice is it to be free? Fuck! fucking EH! I did NOT expect BLAISE FEELS to be a thing today and YET
I AM HAVING FEELINGS, ABOUT BLAISE, CATCH ME CRYING AT MY DESK!

we've talked about wyll's bit and we all know about astarion's bit but let's talk about gale's bit. let's talk about his presentation as the Ideal of what it is to be an archmage. the man wears purple velvet pajamas with an embroidered collar to camp in the underdark. he wears a gay little earring with mystra's symbol on it. its all fun and games to joke about his jammies but let's be clear: those things Fuck. he dresses well, he dresses richly, he is a wealthy lavish man who, in a world where things like long hair are not traditionally associated with femininity, is not what I would call gender nonconforming, but I think he does have a very interesting presentation.
robes and jewellery are traditionally associated with wizardry and femininity - or, if not femininity, at least nonmasculinity. theyre the garments of monks, eunuchs, and nuns, people who stand outside of the typical sex/gender binary for socially accepted reasons. traditionally most archmages are men (karsus, mordenkainen, elminster, etc) who perform this exact presentation. the doylist explanation is, of course, that dnd canon is inherently misogynistic, but the in-universe implication would suggest that to present in this way is not regarded as gender non-conformation but as class conformation. so our options are:
wizardry is for gayboys
'wizard' is its own gender
gender presentation is less important than getting that sweet sweet +1 spell save dc and everyone knows it
class is a gender modifier. this has interesting implications for the other classes - particularly ones like clerics, which might have prescribed uniforms or vestments - but given that faerun does have a not-insignificant classless, non-adventurer population- how does it work for them?
regardless, I think it's fair to say that gale's bit - like wyll's is the Blade of Frontiers and astarion's as the seductive rake - is The Archmage. he presents himself, from the start, as an academic, as a wizard. he's a friend of elminster, the (ex-)chosen of mystra, gale of waterdeep - he's everything a Wizard should be. even when he's tadpoled, camping in the woods, he carries a stack of unread books, wears mystra's symbol, wears his purple velvet jammies. he's presenting himself with care and thought, and giving a highly specific impression. I think it's really interesting that, as much as wyll and astarion, he's putting on a front, and it plays into his story. do you encourage the side of him that's ambitious and daring, the archmage, the man who pushes the boundaries of power and knowledge - or do you try to break that down, and place the value on the man who just wants to sit in front of the fire with his cat and read a book?

I think an underlooked part of what shaped jin’s mindset was how even back in Torna, he was considered “property”. He and Lora spent their whole lives avoiding the authorities of Torna because they believed would straight up execute Lora to get Jin back, and no one ever denies it. and this has seemingly been a fear since Lora was a child. Jin had to hide his face everywhere he went. Maybe Torna wouldn’t have been cruel enough to execute a child, especially since the king seemed decent(?) enough, if not a bit distant. But the fact it was even a fear at all for Lora since she was so young is just awful to think about.
According to his past self’s journals, Jin and his old driver fought in a war of independence for Torna, perhaps what made him a hero to begin with. and because he’s a war hero for deeds he doesn’t even remember, the kingdom considers him owned by them. Which is on the nose in two different ways ngl. Both in how the Blades are seen and a wider metaphor of soldiers/state. idk it’s just very sad to think about

open letters to various customers i've had
to all the visibly trans/gnc customers/anyone going for the "most fuckable person in the grocery store" look: hiiiiiiiii i love you i love you i love you i love you, yall make my job worth doing and my life worth living thank you for existing
to every customer i went to high school with: don't fucking look at me (unless youre gay now)
to the customers who put literally everything in produce bags: stop fucking doing that shit. youre just making my life harder. those granola bars are individually wrapped in plastic and in a fully sealed cardboard box. why do you do this to me.
to the guy who came in today asking where the "cooking water" was: wtf dude
love,
me, a cashier at a grocery store in my hometown

oh also while we're comparing and contrasting. as i've said before. you could argue otherwise, but personally, i really don't think mcu thor hits loki.* whereas your generic comics thor. definitely does. in mcu canon, the circumstances surrounding the mistreatment are subtler, but the mistreatment itself is also subtler.
and again, things being (arguably) "less severe" doesn't necessarily make the writing better. but. it does make thor more sympathetic, and it does make everything feel more deliberate? like, someone has thought through what is and isn't going on, rather than just being like. toxic sibling relationship? okay let's have everything possible go wrong! and this also means that like... toxicity/abuse which a lot of people would see as "lesser" is treated with significantly more gravity. like, overall, i just get the impression that a lot more effort and care is being put into it.
(*i was going to say "i don't think mcu thor is physically violent to loki." but uhhh. yes he is. but i don't think he hits him, or does anything where the primary intent is to cause pain, so that's like... a line he doesn't cross. he has principles, even if they're not very good ones. also, further specifications: not "mcu thor", but "pre-reboot mcu thor, pre-nemesishood or outside of wartime". idk what reboot thor is up to these days, but he is a torturer, so i'm not defending that guy. :/)

Hi! I hope you’re doing good in life.
What do you think of a phantom hourglass remake? Tbh I don’t know how they could remake it without basically remaking it from the ground-up. It would probably play more like windwaker, which I see as a both a good and bad thing. On the one hand, if it was more like windwaker a lot more people would probably play and it would be more popular since I know the touch controls were a turn off for most people for both Spirit Tracks and Phantom hourglass. But on the other hand, remaking it to be more like windwaker would make the game lose some of it’s previous identity. Like, Phantom hourglass was so unique because of the touch controls and the puzzles you can make and solve by having two screens and touch controls. And it was so nifty and handy to be able to write notes on your map. Idk, I still would like it to be remade in general even if it ends up a basically different game, but I wouldn’t change the story or the characters, especially Linebeck. The only other change I would make is the music. Phantom hourglass had rather weak themes, mainly because they re-used the same theme for the islands and the dungeons. The only songs that were really good were the few orginal tracks made for the game, so Linebeck’s theme, Oshus’s theme, both Bellum boss battle themes and the and that music that plays when you first follow the Ghost Ship. But what would you want out of a phantom hourglass remake?
Hey, I’m doing good, and I hope you are too!
I’ve thought a bit about a possible Phantom Hourglass remake, but not too much recently. I don’t really know if I’d want one, since you’d lose a lot of what really makes it special, and you can still play it through other means. I’m personally fond of the graphics and the music- yes, even the dungeon theme has grown on me- so I don’t really want a remake too badly, especially since I fear any additions/changes they might make with story or characters in a remake. The touch controls make it, and playing it on pc recreates that feeling decently well, but I don't think it'll be just the same if you had to control it with joysticks or anything.
Not to mention, there's so much emphasis on having the two screens, too, not just for map stuff, but almost every single boss had a mechanic related to the top screen! I have no fucking clue how you'd replicate that very well on something like the switch without just fucking with the mechanics altogether.
I would kill to hear some of Phantom Hourglasses tracks be orchestrated or otherwise rearranged in a higher quality. I wouldn't want any of the more notable themes altered in any way, no adding or removing of melodies and only very very small changes to the instrumentation, but I think it'd be neat to see what could be done with dungeon themes. I think a while back I had a fleeting desire to write some short tracks for each dungeon, with some ideas like mostly using instruments heard in Bellum's themes for the dungeons while each individual one gets a leading instrument unique to and reflective of the dungeon, while the Ghost Ship maybe gets a song that's a bit of a expanded version of the fog theme, while the Temple of the Ocean King could have slightly different themes the further in you got, starting with instruments more common to Oshus's theme or the great sea theme, while the further in you got the more instruments from Bellum's theme would be heard, plus some harpsichord thrown in for the hell of it.
Leave the original dungeon theme for stuff like the minor pyramids and some larger cave areas, idk. It's grown on me.
I think the only story rearranging I'd want is mayyyyybe unfridging Tetra? You could very easily shuffle some things around with her and just not damsel her for the whole game and honestly it'd still go off perfectly without a hitch. But you'd still have to deal with the World of the Ocean King being a whole other world, so either bring her and her crew in and have them as wandering ship npcs (the better idea) or just leave them out (not a good idea) but either way it's better than what they actually did. I just don't think I'd want it to switch to Tetra being a major reoccurring character tbh, the main character dynamics in PH are good as they are.
I think I like Phantom Hourglass too much as it is to really want a remake at all. I'd rather we get something like an anime adaptation. That's what I think about more. Give me animated Phantom Hourglass with some fun takes on the dungeons and fights and some fun slice of life stuff with the group between the islands what I want is a Phantom Hourglass anime

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you currently being the same age as Nanook and beginning the story when you were 17, would also mean that you were OLDER than Tomkin was when the men left for war? Or am I misremembering Tomkin's age
nope you're spot on tomkin was only sixteen when he went to war! im going to cry

Nobody tell this website that egg jokes aren't annoying because the concept of someone potentially being a trans woman instead of a feminine man is somehow bad (it's not in the slightest and if that does turn out to be the case, said woman should be treated with nothing but respect in terms of her gender identity). They're annoying because you do not know that person and misgendering anyone is rude and even if you're right, that's not anyone's business but theirs and you're still misgendering them now.

hello upper middle class northern usamerican tumblr user. i want to play a game. you will notice that you are in a super america convenience store in rural kentucky - you have three minutes to purchase a snack and drink of your choice and make normal small talk with the cashier. however, if you use the word "cryptid" or generally make reference to appalachia and its inhabitants as "wild", uncivilized, or lacking restraint around alcoholic beverages during your time here, i will personally tie you to the chassis of a four wheeler and tip it into the river. live or die. make your choice

I'll have to post pics later when I actually have the mental energy for that, but I got the shells in today and theres a REALLY BIG one that is exactly like the shell Scupa has on rn and theres three very likely and very hilarious possible scenarios that could happen when I put it in the tank:
Gurkle gets it and is like hehehe Mine's bigger!! >:)
Scupa gets it, decides it's too big, Gurkle takes the smaller one before he can take it back
OR
Scupa takes the big one (since he is bigger atm) and Gurkle takes the old one and they're twinsies 🥺💕 (I'd be able to tell them apart not just by size but gurkle is a little pasty white boy sgdgdgdggd and Scupa's coloring is a very beautiful deep red atm)
It's a great thing I got a smaller assortment of shells bc whooo boy did I misjudge... but also I got them big big so that way if they DO want roomier shells they have big boy shells and regular shells
This one is so pretty though I'm so tempted to keep it but I'm hoping one of the boys likes it as much as I do 🥰💕
Also the packaging is so wildly different it's funny
The big big shells are in a cardboard box, shredded paper fill in the bottom, each shell neatly placed, and bubble wrap covering the top
The smaller ones are in a plastic jar with a lid, bubble wrap pressed in the top to keep them from rattling around (thank you 😭🙏) and the jar is wrapped TIGHTLY in more bubble wrap
I'll ofc post pictures when I put the shells in if they try them on
