Those fuckers were right. I took a brisk little walk in the sun and I feel alert and refreshed. I feel my heart beating and the blood moving through my veins, I see a refreshed blush in my cheeks, and feel fresh oxygen breathing life into my lungs, and the wondrous ache in my legs and the pleasant tingle of my muscles working. Sweat glistens at my temples and my hair is blowing in the wind and I feel awake and I am aware of my place in the world and the beauty of life and being alive and the leaves are falling and are a beautiful orange, I even jumped in a pile and laughed for the first time in days. The birds are chirping and theres so many of them and theyre all different colors and make different sounds and flutter and fly. I saw people raking leaves, kids playing in the yards, dogs shitting. I saw cars driving by playing music, people laughing, and green grass. It may seem like the world is dark and horrible and falling apart but there is beauty in it yet if you go look for it, the hardest part is getting up.

first layers of final print
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
when creating the first layer of my prints, I had to reprint the blue lino multiple times because the bright the neon pink paper kept showing through in areas and because of this sometimes the registration went off centre. I still wanted to showcase these prints that went wrong as im still going to continue on with the other layers over top because they could still look interesting when completely finished but because in this case we are asked to create two identical prints I couldnt use any of these for my finals. For that fourth print as the registration was already slightly off I deciced to experiment and print the same lino over top but flipped upside down and i really like the ghosting of the print I got, so im curious to see how this one will look when finished.

above are some of the clean identical prints I managed to get to use for my finals and im really happy with how they came out

Beauty in the mundane - the potato- part 3 -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Following the previous technique of using the potato, I used a scalpel to carve some shapes and lines into the potato itself. I then inked these up and used them to create miniature prints. I think this turned out well as I was able to create some repeating patterns and shapes. This would be a good method for creating prints as it utilises the chosen object to its fullest potential.

Here concept board for my first and second idea
For my first concept  board I put  my best building drawings and painting on it and add some text on my theme and why I chose that theme.
For my second concept beard I put mixture of photos and drawings that funded shapes find at the seaside  then some information on my theme and why I chose that theme.
On the first mood board I wish  that used different drawing  building so it not the some building all the time.
on the second mood board I wish made the text bigger  and change colour of the text so would easier to read .
The colours in both concept have proved a nice contrast with each other.

Evaluation - remediation
This brief required me to create two identical multi-layer prints and zine focusing on the idea of ‘beauty in the mundane’. As classes were mainly online, a lot of time was spent having digital calls with my lecturer who taught and encouraged me to do very quick gestural studies of objects easily at my disposition. As well as this i decided to take more of a practical and personal approach in finding inspiration around my current area and the city centre to photograph and take rubbings of organic objects and manmade structures (this includes trees, buildings, grids on the pavement ect.) This proved to be very useful as I was able to focus my inspiration into two categories - organic and man-made. The calls were also beneficial as I am now able to create very quick gestural studies that can be further developed.
Mind-maps and concept boards were also created. This helped greatly in narrowing down ideas to the one concept - rope. To create these concept boards, I utilised the techniques I had learned prior on the calls and walks and incorporated these into the board. This helped in giving me a better understanding of how I wanted to progress with this subject matter as I had created various small studies focusing on the shape of the rope.
Creating developmental studies proved to be challenging, frustrating and time consuming. As my work progressed, I found myself too focused on a final print concept which blinded me to other avenues of development. To combat this, I decided to take a step backwards and create some more experimental studies using various materials such as conte, ink and brush pens. This was a good idea as I was able to create many more samples that were different to my original idea. I also wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and really focused on digitally manipulating some of my studies using photoshop and illustration software (mobile apps albeit). This proved very useful but time consuming however it was a good idea as I was able to look into different compositions and styles for a final print that differed from my original intended concept.
One of the few issues I faced (aside from getting myself stuck into a final idea) was creating the prints themselves. Due to the nature of all the smaller pieces I created, it was proving difficult to find a composition that worked with my chosen method (screenprinting). As I initially created monoprints in my experiments, I was eager to include this method into my final prints as it worked well in my collages but I had to change this idea as it did not translate very well once printed. I therefore ended the monoprint idea and used solely screen printing methods thus creating the final prints. I feel that by using screen printing, I was able to create multiple prints very quickly as I could print many of one layer before cycling through the next. My prints also ended up looking more finalised and cohesive when I focused on using one print method which I liked.  By doing this however, I had to rearrange and expose more screens which took up a lot of valuable workshop time and caused a lot of stress as other classmates were doing similar tasks. In the future I'll have to consider and plan better courses of action such as better time management and processes if I'm using screen printing.
Another struggle was creating my zine. As I had never created one before I decided to glue and stick different components together that features examples of developmental and experimental studies however it ended up coming out bulky and messy looking. To combat and change this, I decided to fully digitalise my zine using softwares available to me (canva) and included many more of the digital experiments I had created. This turned out much cleaner looking and looked more cohesive. Looking back I'm glad that I pushed myself to create digital manipulations and studies as I now have a better understanding of how to utilise digital softwares. I feel that if I hadn't taken a step back and created more digital studies then it would have been much more difficult.
Overall this brief and concept of finding beauty in the mundane brought out some good aspects and bad aspects; in that I've learned not to get ahead of myself too early on when presented with a brief, and to push myself to think outside the box and try new things that would otherwise be a daunting process to develop or a subject that I wouldn't think twice about using.

Concept Boards - "Beauty in the mundane" brief
For this brief we were asked to create 2 concept boards from which we would choose which one we will take for further development.
Concept Board I - Textures/Patterns
Tumblr media
This concept board is inspire by the work we've done focusing on beauty in the mundane with "Dot, Line and Shape". I really enjoyed the walks from where this photos originated, where i went out looking for these specific details in my surroundings. I think these could be manipulated and printed together, overlapped and/or for collages. Also thing i might be able to use some of these textures with my second concept board, as backgrounds or for specific details within it.
Concept Board II - Transform/Creatures
Tumblr media
For this concept board i intend to explore the possibilities of transforming mundane objects into creatures, bringing the mundane to life! Using objects from our surroundings, basic things we wouldn't normally even consider as anything else, together with the photos and prints I've been producing, in order to create final results. My examples in this board are a light bulb, which i turn into little insects, and went further with the spider overlapped on one of the past photos and then manipulated digitally to give more the desired ambience i was trying to create. On the left i drawn an umbrella and done lino prints with it in order to add to past prints also made with objects, creating a Jelly Fish, which i went on to further manipulate digitally. I'm so happy with the results, i will definitely be going further with this concept as i find it very interesting and the possibilities are many, just use the imagination!
