#thats my honest reaction 😐#to be fair ive only seen 20 minutes of the s1 finale bc my parents are watching it but. mmmmm kinda mid #like. the casting is definitely an improvement since the last time they tried a live action but it feels like the writing falls flat #or maybe im being harsh bc ive only heard negative criticism on it beforehand. but fr anytime u bring up the original its already #good and not just because its the original. so much fucking detail went into it to the point of someone noticing azula wielding mai's knive #to how well thought out irohs character is used as a way of uniting the cast especially as zukos foil #i heard that sokkas sexism was toned down and i have to agree that feels like a cheap move. like i get WHY they think it would be better #but its not about how that reflects on real world its about how it affects the story. sokka starts out as a misogynistic asshole because #it makes it that much more impactful when he changes. toning that down makes it flatter and makes his character development weak #and someone pointed out they didnt even make him wear the kyoshi warrior uniform and i know it feels like such a small detail but #come on man. they did that in the original because not only does it help him really walk in their shoes - wearing 'feminine' clothing and #makeup and having suki explain its significance but it also ties in with the shows theme of harmony and intersectionality #i was also disappointed when they had the fire sages explain how the water tribe draws power from the moon because in the original it was #IROH who explained it to aang and everyone else BECAUSE we as the audience is under the impression hes with the 'bad guys'#and it builds up to how he learned from the other nations which reconciles his past as a war general and his character overall #AND its an excellent starting point for the cast and audience to understand how the nations arent as closed off as you would think #plus you would think its only fire nation doing propaganda but they expanded on that with earth kingdom censorship and it WORKS #a lot of things in the live action also feel arbitrary like. they gave momo a near death experience for 5 minutes for no reason #im firmly on the stance of bringing back filler moments instead of putting major events right after each other so that u give your #audience a sense of time passing and to really absorb the story. but i think thats more like shock value than filler and yeah its a small #thing to gripe about but those things build up and its really annoying. the thing abt avatar filler moments is that however small #its at least meaningful. hell even the beach episode emphasizes how isolated zuko and his friends are as child soldiers #i also swore to never watch the first live action since it was that bad but i really liked the stylized tattoos they used for aang #anyway. those arejust my thoughts. im not gonna watch the rest because im a ride or die for the original aftr growing up and #rewatching it at least 20 times as a kid. but theres definitely room for improvement and i wish ppl wouldnt take it as 'better' just cuz #netflix is adapting it. i wouldve killed for them to just reanimate the entire avatar series and touch NOTHING ELSE no redub #no changes to the story. just reanimate the thing and leave the rest alone and youd make easy money just the same #ALSO its very jarring not hearing jack desena and dante basco voicing sokka and zuko cause their voices were the most recognizable to me #i get that its because its live action but im allowed to feel a little sad abt that. and uncle irohs accent was really soothing #yapping

I think it's just a new bird to visit for a little while #and then suddenly it's the only one in the nest #Where my other babies go? Whyd you push them out?? Yet I dont stop feeding the cuckoo. I cant. I have to feed the baby #Anyway. Tmnt is a cuckoo but there is now another cuckoo in the nest and they're fighting #We'll see if the new one manages to push tmnt out or if tmnt will regain the upper hand #The 'new' cuckoo has actually been here before. so! sore must be the storm is a magical girls ttrpg i ran that lives forever in my brain, and the gist of it is that a gaggle of teens have been chosen to become Magical Heroes to fight against the Gunge, a massive force of despair that has been bubbling up around the edges of reality and turning folks into magical villains by preying on their emotional vulnerabilities! dont you want to give in? dont you want to be angry? dont you want to stop fighting to be Good all the time? the gunge whispers in your head and takes over when you accept, puppeting you to act on your worst impulses, because whats the point of holding back!

although they do not know at first (and are quite thrown off by their magical companion being a weird pigeon with cartoon physics), the source of their powers is Hope and its the opposite Elemental Force to the gunge. hope itself cant defeat all the despair that swells in the world, but it can give you the courage to fight back against it!

in the dead boy detectives au, our heroes are charles, edwin, crystal, and niko, who all attend the same boarding school. the cat king is their magical companion, who more often than not is in cat mode, providing terrible advice and encouraging bad decisions <3 niko, still caught in her grief, refuses the call at first and ends up Gunged (dandelion sprite arc!). crystal, edwin, and charles all team up, transform, and fight to save her! she realizes she is not alone, and agrees to join the team! she has always wanted to be a magical girl, after all-

esther finch is the big bad who has found the spigot from which the gunge flows into our world and has broken it open. despair is good for business, after all, because people who have given up hope wont put up a fight <3 fun fact in the original story the big bad was the manager of an amazon warehouse (peter andora aka p. andora, open up the box of his warehouse and what is left!) and i think esther can be the absolute worst boss, so <3 she ends up making monty as a construct out of gunge, ripping a chunk off of this vast elemental force of Despair and giving him form as a boy to go spy on those strange magical heroes and see who is throwing a wrench in her plans!!!

these are broad strokes but know there is So much there. tragic mick is the english teacher and was previously a magical companion before Things Went Bad. the cat king can cartoon-physics splort into smaller cats. jenny is the dorm mom. edwin and charles are roommates who bonded last year when they remained on campus over the break. crystal just transferred from a different school and is trying to reinvent herself. kingham and litty are there as small gunge constructs. monty, the cat king, and tragic mick are all various points on a timeline of similar entities. there is Lots Going On Here please ask more-

hi guys. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. sorry i just thought about the passage of time

#i just keep thinking about the past and the future and mostly the past #especially 2022 because i was 15 mostly. for most of that time. or barely 16 #idk 2022 was so eeeasyyyyy so little pressure. i think i am building it up in my head a bit much though i've seen my google docs from those #times. there was a lot of optimism for the future cause nothing was going on in my present LMAO. but that in itself was kind of peaceful #like idk i feel like in 2022 and years before I would get sooo INTO things . which hasn't really properly happened 4me since adventure time #it was my own personal adventure time renaissance #i know there was a big resurgence when fionna and cake released but ehhh. u know. whatever. ehhhhh #golden times for me was like ~nov of 2022 because I was in a massive slump before that irt drawing and it pulled me out of it a bit #and then also the time right BEFORE f&c released & everyone i knew or knew of was active but also people weren't reallyyy talking about f&c #they were just kinda talking about regular adventure time. and the stuff everyone wanted to see in relation to the non genderbent character #that was a good time #anyway sorry for being wistful about the past. it will happen again.#but the past has already happened and it will never happen again #and also theres way more exciting stuff for me in future #not just the general idea of it even. it's just that theres stuff thats gonna happen this year that im looking forward to #i think its just easier to think about fun stuff from the past than stuff im looking forward to cause waiting sucks #and you dont have to wait for stuff that has already happened #i should go to bed #i typo'd 'too' instead of 'to' without realising TWICE i REALLY should go to bed

brain is doing...a thing? meds are.....good?

#to clarify #i asked to switch to non-stimulant adhd meds #because of my other fun health conditions i think im way too sensitive to stimulants #so while it worked for the executive functioning part of adhd it also made my heart rate super high and kinda gave me way too much energy #so i couldnt really like....use it the way i was supposed to? i ended up not using it unless i had to get something done that day #which like....works until you realize that its not just Big Things that need to get done and theres a whole bunch of little things that #just arent happening. at all. so! non stimulant version of medication. im a few days in and it takes a lil while to ramp up to working #but so far? im not anxious or super energetic but i still get the brain feeling that i kinda always thought was how the meds were supposed #to be working. like. brain is calm and clear. im not hopping from thing to thing or sitting staring at my computer waiting for dopamine #again only been a few days it takes a couple weeks to build up more. but i have very high hopes for not being in adhd hell all the time

being back in okayama is really cool and is weird only because it doesnt feel weird. i still know where everything is here and i sort of feel like i never left. all of our friends, too, have said while meeting up that it feels like picking up right where we left off. but that is, in itself, weird, because the last time i was chilling here with jake and our friends, he and i werent dating, and now we are, so i get a little caught up sometimes in thinking things are just as they used to be (happy style) and then look over at jake and remember that in addition to everything being pleasantly the same, we get to kiss now.

#when i make big money off of my writing (anything to the tune of $500k altogether) i want to buy a house in okayama prefecture #so that when we take our trips here we can just stay there. ideally in maniwa or takahashi or somewhere between those two #i like the mountains up there is why. but i would be okay with something between takahashi and ibara too i guess #but i really prefer maniwa it is gorjuss there such small little towns and pleasant temples and shrines #theres also a custom car shop in maniwa that builds insane custom cars for clients jake loves stopping in to see what theyre doing #and the shop people always run out and greet us stressed and confused because its fine for people to stop in to look and take pics #but they never expect to see two random foreigners without an appointment so far out so they always think we made an appointment and they #forgot LOL they did that the last time we went too like in 2022 #i always explain that no...we went to kiyamaji and kiyamajinja...just stopping on our way south...#but yeah it has to be $500k from writing because first i would want to pay off our ohio house and THEN buy a frivolous japan house #i dont really feel bad about buying a property in the japanese countryside either because they are literally screaming and crying for people #to buy akiya so i would buy one and get it reformed/buy a reformed one #better than a house sitting 100% empty for years...and we'd let yuuki live there if she wanted to of course though she prefers the city #anyway.#enough of that #t

thinking about leon again tonight

#cosmo rambles #i need to get back to playing around with the Hazel and Leon get Eeby Deebied to Hisui thing #because i think still the dynamic of leon being very athletic and strategic while hazel is more on the artsy side and is like #more ideal in a support role is really fun #leon willing to go out there and wrestle a garchomp while gushing about how fantastic it is at physical attacking #while hazel sits by and sketches it for the pokedex and makes little notes about what they found in the environment #leon building himself a new team around types he's never tried before and picking the weaker starter to hazel's to give himself a challenge #hazel somehow letting leon goad her into actually taking a rival role against her despite never really having rivals before #unless you count blue making her so so so so mad but that's unrelated. she'll fight him without a pokemon #leon's understanding of battle mechanics and what each pokemon needs to thrive and what it's capable of beyond just its typing delights me #while hazel tends to be like me- less strategic and more about getting those type advantages in LOL #also having two trainers taking on nobles and filling the dex with their own roles to make things smoother is fun #but also because im imagining leon and hazel sitting together as hazel draws and talking as they peacefully watch pokemon from afar #or running for their lives together or riding on wyrdeer's back together #on top of that just. the two of them going to paldea together for a temporary teaching gig and getting swept into things #keeping an eye worriedly on students and Oh God No What Do You Mean the World is Ending. Again #theyll go on a vacation to kalos after this. and because XY has already happened theres no stress there #they just get to get into some mega evolution training. the most stress is red blue and green show up like hiiii #red and leon get into the most heated rivalry imaginable and hazel is being pulled away from her pokepuffs #god this is getting so long. im just thinking so hard im sorry IF YOU READ THIS FAR THANK YOU IM SORRY

sitting in the library half watching a lecture half reading a magazine and a line of 5 yr olds in school uniforms came by and came to a stop as their teacher counted everyone and prepped to leave. immediately a group of them surrounded me and within 30 seconds a little boy tapped some paper on my head with printed colour in sheets and claimed he'd drawn them and i said he was very good artist. a little girl asked to play the flute for me and mimicked it with her hands while making noises and i told her she was very good, 3 more started oohing and aahing at the sewing pattern i was looking at in my magazine, one got excited that i pointed out how cool it was that she got so many books out and her friend sadly lamented that she didnt have a library card and couldnt get anything before i managed to corral them into following their teacher who was beginning to walk the kids towards the exit of the building

#they were so cute 🥺#i will never know what it is about me that makes babies stare at my face and toddlers and little children walk up to me/pause to talk to me/#tell me things but i am thankful for it because experiencing these cute little interactions is so much fun and i love complimenting #little kids on their skills and abilitiea because it helps build their self-esteem #since i began my job working with babies and toddlers/schoolchildrena and well after leaving that job last october after 2 years #ive found the amount of kids drawn to talk to me has increased and i find myself in conversation with toddlers and 5 year olds #on public transport/in the library to distract them from the tantrum they were throwing seconds previously has increased #theres nothing funnier than sitting on the bus and hearing a baby cry and sticking your head over the seat to stare and go ''lifes hard huh #little man?'' only for them to immediately cut themselves off and stare at you like O.O #babies are so easy to stop crying btw if you just make eye contact and then pull faces/cover and then reveal your face a bunch #they will stop whatever theyre doing to stare at you and maybe also start smiling/giggling

I do like her and wish the writers-#-didnt bungle it 😔 SAD! well theres other sad rich girl characters #wendy has being the character who I wanted to be like as a child privileges and also she literally deserved an episode #I dont Dislike gideon but man he was done dirty after being the s1 main antagonist #like the ep before the s1 finale builds up to gideons peak in the season finale but it mostly consists of introducing bill who was-#-summoned by gideon and immediately steals the show. especially once gideon gets shelved for most of s2. and only really becomes relevant-#-again to help bill with weirdmageddon for a little bit. do you get what I mean with gideon ended up so far in bills shadow in terms of-#-major antagonists #its fine tho. gid's just an over the top comedic child villain anyway. cozy glow type beat except he got redeemed.#I talked so much about gideon despite caring so little for him lmao #anyway I dont care for robbie. they couldve been onto something with him in love god but No.#Like The Concept of mabel seeing that hes miserable and trying to help was nice but the episode sucks #and outside of it he's basically just dippers rival mostly with the whole wendy crush storyline so. yeah.#normal about this show btw #gf
