I wonder if the mural of Vander already existed and someone else painted Jinx into it after she became so well regarded?

I just feel like the portraits aren't that well integrated in theme. You have Vander's profile bordered in yellow flowers to represent friendship and joy. Then you have the more detailed painting of Jinx looming over Piltover exploding it with smoke bombs. Jinx is framed around doves while stylized into her latest attacks.

It feels like the artist(s) wanted to associate Jinx with Vander rather than the other way around because the actual subject of the Jinx's portion of the mural is Jinx violently provoking Piltover, but the nature of Jinx's portion is practically whitewashed to make it work with Vander's theme to the point Jinx is surrounded by DOVES. It might be an attempt to harmonize Jinx's persona with the ideals Vander left behind, which are the complete opposite of what Jinx is actually doing.

I think this is on purpose because Jinx is the most politically relevant member of her family now. Jinx is the one being valorized and venerated, and EVERYONE knows none of this would have been possible without Silco. Silco was the one who dedicated his resources to train Jinx and was openly anti-Piltovan to Jinx and the rest of Zaun.

I've seen some claims that Vander and Jinx are together because Vander was more beloved than Silco. But Silco never made it illegal to mourn or even celebrate Vander's memory. Silco allowed and a giant statue of Vander to be built in the middle if Zaun and he'd TALK to it.

But now Silco's dead and there are people running around in the background wearing Jinx's X and Silco's color scheme on their clothes. It feels like there's an ideological custody battle on behalf Silco and Vander through their supporters on who was Jinx's "true" father and gets the lions share of historical parental acclaim.

Tldr: The mural seems more like an effort to save face for Vander rather than bolster Jinx because Vander's actual values inexplicably lead his KNOWN favorite to becoming an enforcer. Meanwhile, everyone knows, especially Silco's supporters, that Silco's responsible for how Jinx turned out, and she's currently Zaun's favorite.

Okay I'll say this: yes SJM is inconsistent in her writing. But when it comes to Feyre's trauma triggers in the Spring Court vs. in the Night Court, I don't necessarily think she's inconsistent....at least not in the sense that she forgot that Feyre is triggered by the colour red for example. But that she's trying to tell us (in an incredibly contrived and hamfisted way honestly) that Feyre gets triggered by things in the Spring Court because she doesn't belong there. So even though UTM is modelled after the CoN, even though she's dressed up in scraps of clothing just like how she was dressed UTM, even though Mor wears red, even though she gives Amren blood, etc. SJM is trying to say that the Night Court is Feyre's "safe haven", her "true home", because that's where her mate belongs, and there's no need for her to feel traumatized, even if she is confronted with traumatic triggers. But of course this is not how trauma works, and this is what makes the writing bad.

Feyre's conflicting trauma responses isn't a case of forgetting, but just part of a laundry list of how SJM tries to beat it over our heads that the Night Court is better than the Spring Court. Feyre is confronted by similar situations and circumstances in both Courts but which side does she "align" with more? Feyre not wanting the High Lady title in Spring, but being okay with it in Night, Feyre balking at the Tithe and riches of Spring but embracing it in Night, Feyre not enjoying dressing up and the gatherings that introduce her to the Spring Court as the future Lady but assenting to being paraded around in a dehumanizing way to the citizens of the Night Court, Feyre being triggered in Spring but not being triggered in Night...etc., etc.

SJM is quite consistent in that at least, even if it is bad writing.

all hate to tiktok for taking 'having a space to more openly and actively talk about different cultures' to mean 'cultures are NOT to be shared and we must be vigilantly defensive of our cultures for fear of appropriation, a word that can be applied to any multicultural interaction'. like of course cultural appropriation is a very real problem but ive seen with the access to global multicultural conversation that tiktok provides it's made people TERRIFIED to even interact with cultures other than their own for fear of 'doing it wrong'. like at some point you have to acknowledge that in the real world of the great outdoors, the majority of people are eager to SHARE their cultures. yes there are ignorant questions and biases but also... how do you think those things get unlearnt? i dont understand how deciding that multiculturalism is an elephant in the room instead of a normal thing that should just be talked about and lived with is supposed to benefit anyone? and kids on tiktok are CONVINCED that it's a time bomb of a conversation to have and therefore must be avoided at all costs but like. people generally LOVE their home and their culture and are PROUD of it and want to share it. how have we made it so that showing genuine interest and a desire to understand something so integral to a person's identity is now feared and borderline demonised?

Hm. I admit I'm. Cautiously optimistic about Dark Ages. Looks like it has cool designs, and id software at least has a reputation for good gameplay, if not good story. I just really, really hope they at least stick to the story they established in Eternal and don't completely mutilate it.
