Thank you so much, my dear!! I miss our Beau, so it was great to see you find the first fic I ever wrote for him. đâ¤ď¸
When Fantasy Pales
Summary: Y/N fantasizes about Beau all the time. Can she make reality out of fantasy, and will things turn out like she imagined?
Pairings: Beau Arlen x Y/N
Warnings/Explicit 18+: Smut, nothing too explicit. A tiny smidge of fingering, lots of making out, implied smut, fantasizing, angst if you squint, fluff and Beau Arlen dressed up as a fighter pilot. That's a warning for sure. TW: for brief sexual harrassment, unwanted grabbing.
Word Count: 4K+
A/N: Okay, so this is the first time I'm writing Beau Arlen. I'm super nervous, because it's still such early days with his character. But I couldn't resist trying. This ended up being less smutty then I had planned, đ but I'm mostly happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it and please tell me what you think! Interaction is EVERYTHING! đđĽ°
A/N 2:Â This fic will also fill a prompt in the 30 Days Writing Challenge, prompt # 12, Explain your MC's motivation. I think Beau explains his motivations pretty well towards the end of the fic.
The beautiful divider at the bottom was created by @firefly-graphics
Beau Arlen had come to town almost four months ago, and you'd fallen in love with him immediately.
Within minutes.
How could you not? He was the most gorgeous man you'd ever seen, over six feet of long, hard, cowboy. The way he sauntered into the Sheriff's office each morning on his beautiful bowlegs, his jeans clinging like a second skin, never failed to make your stomach tighten and your mind spin wildly.
Everyday you came up with a new scenario in your mind, for how Beau might come to fall in love with the quiet secretary hiding at the back of the office. Most of the scenarios tended to start the same sexy way though.
Beau would suddenly be awoken to the fact that you existed, finally see you for real, finally notice you, want you.
And when he did he'd throw you down on the nearest desk, or couch, or chair, bed - whatever was closest.
The other day you'd seen him bending into his open truck door, and the sight of his round, plump ass, jeans stretched tight across it, had you imagining him bending you over the hood of his Sheriff's vehicle, maybe slipping his cuffs around your wrists while he teased and tormented you into multiple earth-shattering orgasms.
The truth was that you fantasized about him all the time. Everything about him was hot as hell and arousing. The way his voice dripped out of him like slow molasses, all smooth and rich and dark, the way he teased and charmed effortlessly, the way his smile lit up a room, the way his shirts pulled tight across his biceps sometimes, the way his tac vest seemed to broaden his already wide shoulders, making you pant with need, the way he caressed his gun as he cleaned it at his desk sometimes, his thick, blunt-tipped fingers, skilled and nimble as they worked, making you blush from the wicked images they evoked.
All of these things caused vivid fantasies to take over your mind all the time. It was wholly inconvenient and frustrating, this all-consumimg attraction you felt for Beau Arlen.
But the truly scary thing wasn't how he made you pant and drool. What really terrified you was the way your heart fluttered when you overheard him talking about his daughter with so much love and pride, or when you watched his intelligent brain solve a puzzle quickly and save the day.
Or when his big heart made itself known, like it did a week ago. A little girl had been brought in, lost and scared. She'd eventually been reunited with her Mom, but in the meantime she was sitting in an unknown place, with a bunch of scary cops with guns.
Beau had taken the gun from his hip, and approached her with some milk and a cupcake from the break room. He'd spoken softly, down on his haunches in front of her. Within a few minutes he had the little one giggling and then took her into his office so she could sit at his desk and draw pictures.
He was everything you'd ever wanted in a man, as though he'd been sent from the gods above.
And he didn't even know you were alive.
Actually, that wasn't entirely true. Every morning when he passed by your desk, he'd give you a bright smile and say, "Mornin' Y/N."
And you would mumble a quiet, "Morning." back to him. And sometimes he'd ask you for some clerical info, or ask you to look something up for him and you would...yeah, that was pretty much the extent of your interactions day-to-day.
In a way, it would be easier if he never said hello, never spoke to you. Then you could pretend that he'd just never noticed you and that one day he'd look up, see you, and fall in love.
But he had seen you, he had noticed. He just didn't care; you were the plain, quiet girl in the corner and he never spared you a second glance.
But you'd vowed to make him do a double take tonight.
It was the annual Halloween office party, and you knew he was going to come because you overheard him talking to Poppernak about it. The deputy told Beau what a big deal it was, how everyone attended and dressed up, and that he had to come or the team would be disappointed.
Beau had agreed reluctantly, saying he'd figure out something simple for a costume.
Your costume was pretty simple as well, you were coming as Daisy Duke from the Dukes of Hazzard. About a month ago you'd heard Beau talking with one of the officers about having a huge crush on Daisy Duke when he was a kid.
You'd looked up who she was, and decided then and there that she was going to be your Halloween costume. It was just cutoffs (cut off VERY high up the leg!) and a tight-fitting, low cut orange t-shirt. And cowboy boots of course.
You'd never worn anything that revealing in your life, but you liked your curves and decided that it was time to show them off. If you wanted Beau to finally notice you, you'd need to grab and keep his attention on you.
You stood in front of the mirror that evening turning to the side and biting your bottom lip as you saw the way the jeans cut across the bottom of your ass cheeks. If you bent over even a tiny bit, you'd essentially be mooning everyone.
Maybe this isn't a good idea, you thought to yourself.
You weren't sure you had the confidence to pull this off. But you were so desperate for Beau to see you, you knew you had to give it a try.
You lived close to the bar where the party was being held, so you just walked over. That way, you could drink all you wanted and just take a cab home.
You knew you were going to need lots of liquid courage to get through the evening.
You got a lot of looks thrown your way as you walked down the street. Probably because you were wearing shorts when it was 36 degrees out. You were shivering as you walked into the busy bar, giving thanks for the warmth of the room. Your sexy costume was not conducive to Montana at the end of October.
You looked around and saw lots of people from the office and their spouses, partners and dates, but still couldn't see Beau. Everyone you ran into complimented you on your costume, saying you looked fantastic, which helped boost your confidence a bit.
But an hour into the party, Beau still wasn't there. You wondered if he'd changed his mind, maybe he couldn't find a decent costume, or maybe something had come up with work. He did work some odd hours sometimes.
It was nearly two hours into the party when you finally gave up and stopped looking up hopefully every time someone new walked in. The bartender approached you, where you sat at the bar, pouting slightly, and you ordered a beer, disappointment washing over you.
As you sipped your beer, you felt a hand slide along your back and come to rest on your shoulder. You jumped slightly and turned your head to see a tall man with dark hair and blue eyes pressing against your side.
"You're much hotter in your daisy dukes than Daisy Duke ever was!" He said with a sly grin.
He was a good-looking guy, but he held no appeal for you and you pulled out of his grasp.
"Thanks but I'm just here to have a drink, and visit some. I'm headed home right away."
"Well, lead the way, beautiful, I'll follow."
You smiled politely and tried again. "Sorry, but no. I'm not looking for someone to bring home."
He leaned forward again and reached around to squeeze your ass. "This outfit says otherwise, Missy. Don't try playing hard to get."
Without thinking it through, your hand came up and your palm cracked loudly across his cheek. He grabbed your wrist before you could lower your hand, and yanked you against him, then pressing you back into the bar.
The hard wood dug into the middle of your back, while his whiskey-soaked breath passed over your face.
"You'll pay for that, fuckin little tease." The guy sneered at you and went in, aiming for your mouth.
But before he could reach it, he was pulled off of you and knocked to the ground; you couldn't even say how it happened. But you suddenly saw Beau towering over him where he lay on the ground, choking and seemingly unable to catch his breath.
"My advice would be to stay down, jackass."
As the guy coughed hoarsely, Beau turned to you. "Hey darlin', you alright? Wanna press charges?"
You were still reeling from how quickly everything had happened, but you shook your head.
"No, I'm fine."
"You sure?" Beau asked, throwing a grin in your direction. "It would get me out of this stupid costume that I spent too much time trying to find."
For the first time you noticed his costume and it managed to make your breath catch.
He was in an aviator jumpsuit, fake badges and patches adorned it and made him look like he'd just stepped out of the movie Top Gun, he even had dark aviator sunglasses hanging from his right breast pocket.
"No, that's...that's a great costume." Your throat was closed and your words sounded a bit strangled.
Beau shrugged. "Best I could manage anyway." He held a finger up to you. "Hang on a second."
He bent down and hauled the guy off the floor by the front of his fireman costume.
"I don't know who you came with, but you're leaving now, right?"
The guy nodded frantically and when Beau let go of his shirt, he took off running.
People had started to notice something happening when Beau laid the guy out, and now they chuckled at his quick escape and went back to drinking and dancing.
"Thanks." You said nervously.
"Of course. Not about to let my favorite secretary get manhandled. The office would fall apart without you keeping us running and organized."
You smiled shyly, and ducked your head. But then you gave yourself a mental punch in the arm.
Get bold, you idiot, you yelled at yourself. This is your chance!
"Can I..." Your voice trailed off and you pointed lamely at the bar. "I owe you at least a drink."
Beau smiled at you, but looked slightly hesitant. You felt your heart sink a bit. "Just one drink." You said, hoping you didn't sound too desperate.
Beau bit into his bottom lip as he thought about it. The way his white teeth sank into his plush, pink flesh made you want to moan aloud. Finally, he shrugged and moved up to the barstool beside you.
"Sure, one drink can't hurt us."
You climbed onto the stool beside him. "What are you drinking?" You asked.
He looked at the bartender. "Just a beer please, whatever is dark and cold."
You began chatting about work to start, talking about ongoing cases and some of the people you both worked with. Within a half hour you'd said more to him than you had in nearly four months.
As the half hour turned into an hour and one drink turned into two and then three, and another hour rolled over, the bar began to empty out, people heading home for the night. But you and Beau didn't really notice, too busy caught up in your conversation.
To your surprise, once you'd begun the conversation, Beau's charm and friendly banter put you at ease pretty quickly and words flowed easily between you.
Though you were still distracted from time to time, like when his knee brushed against yours, or when you noticed the way his green eyes sparkled even in the low light of the bar, or by the way his fighter pilot costume pulled tight across his shoulders whenever he leaned forward and rested his elbows on the bar.
But despite these distractions, you managed to suck it up and continue to string words together.
He was as funny and charming as you already knew him to be, but it surprised you just how open and honest he was. He never shied away from talking about how hard the job could be sometimes, he could be quite self-deprecating, but also had pride in his accomplishments.
What you discovered as you talked and laughed with him for over two hours was that his physical beauty actually paled in comparison with his good, strong, beautiful heart.
And Jesus Christ, did you adore this man.
It wasn't until the bartender came out from behind the bar, jacket in hand, that the two of you realized you'd closed down the bar.
The bartender tossed his keys to Beau. "Lock it up, Sheriff. Leave the keys in the usual spot."
Beau nodded. "Will do, Mikey! Have a great night. Kiss that baby for me!"
Mikey gave a wave. "I will."
You shook your head and chuckled. "You're on a first name basis with the bartender and he just leaves you here after close so you can keep on drinking? Should I be worried about you?"
Beau smiled sheepishly and looked down at the bar, tracing his finger through the ring of water his beer mug had left behind.
"N'ah. I don't drink much..." He shrugged. "Well, maybe still a bit more than I should," he admitted, "but I mostly stay here when I just don't feel like going home to my four empty walls. You know?"
You nodded, did you ever. "I got a cat, three fish, and a lizard, all to make me feel less alone in my apartment."
The corner of Beau's mouth lifted. "Did it work?"
You smiled ruefully and shook your head. "Not really. It's hard living alone."
Beau nodded. "Yeah it is, night time can feel real lonely."
A charged silence fell which seemed to get fuller with every second that passed. You saw Beau's eyes flick down to your mouth and you realized suddenly that you were completely alone with Beau Arlen, completely alone in a dimly lit bar, completely alone in a dimly lit bar after a few drinks and good conversation.
If you were ever going to shoot your shot, this was the moment.
As though anticipating you, Beau cleared his throat and sat up straight. "Anyway, sorry for the pity party. I should probably get you home now."
You nodded slightly. "Yeah, maybe." You said as you hopped down from your stool, crossed over to the jukebox, and pushed in a quarter.
Crazy by Patsy Cline rolled out, warm and smooth, from the speakers mounted on the wall.
"Or maybe we should have a dance or two first."
You put your hands behind your back so he couldn't see them shaking and, in what you hoped was a seductive pose, you leaned back against the jukebox.
Beau ambled across the floor towards you, until he was standing close, forcing you to crane your neck upwards to keep eye contact with him.
His smile was slow and sexy, but held just a hint of something wary.
His voice was soft as reached out his hand and gently tucked a lock of hair behind your ear. "Are you trying to seduce me, Daisy Duke?"
You shivered as he let his fingertips trail down the side of your neck and over your collarbone before coming to grip your chin.
"That depends," you said breathlessly, "is it working?"
He nodded his head reluctantly, and again a hint of something that seemed almost sad, came into his eyes. "Hell yeah it is." He said as he bent his head to claim your lips.
His mouth moved against yours gently, slowly increasing the pressure, and finally letting the tip of his tongue press lightly against your lips.
You opened your mouth immediately and sucked his tongue inside, eliciting a deep moan from him. He pushed his hands into your hair and angled your head so he could push in deeper stroking his velvety tongue along the roof of your mouth.
You refused to concentrate on the fact that your literal dream was coming true, knowing that it would just make you crazy, and instead, you found the zipper in the front of Beau's costume and unzipped it to his waist.
He moaned again and pulled back from you as you pushed the costume off his shoulders. He wore a white undershirt beneath it. It was thin and very form fitting and the sight of it stretched taut over his broad chest and thick, round shoulders made heat pool at your center.
You started to slide your hands up under the shirt, but Beau put his hands over yours to stop you.
He shook his head. "Y/N, this isn't a good idea."
His breath was rough and he leaned in to rest his forehead on yours. He panted against your mouth, giving you some hope that he'd been as affected by the kiss as you. You pulled your hands out from under his and placed them on his clothed chest.
"It isn't supposed to be a 'good' idea. It's supposed to be a bad, sinful, dirty idea. That's the whole point of seduction."
"Yeah, darlin' I know." He chuckled softly and let out a little groan as he settled his hands on your hips and pulled you flush against him, letting you feel the beginnings of his hard on beneath the thin costume.
He shook his head slowly. "And God DAMN, I've had so many dirty, bad, sinful thoughts when it comes to you!" He sucked air in through his teeth. "Seeing you every day in those little skirts and blouses, hair all pinned up like a sexy librarian."
He let out a low whistle. "Shoot, sweetheart, it's everything I can do to keep from throwing you down on the desk and taking you right there."
Your jaw fell open. "What are you talking about?" You asked in a hoarse whisper. "You barely even knew I was alive before tonight."
Beau's big hands squeezed your hips reflexively. "Like hell I didn't." He said and took advantage of your open mouth to sweep his tongue back Inside.
The kiss became heated quickly, and he shifted his two massive hands from your hips around to grab hold of your ass, caressing and squeezing it hard.
You plunged your hands back under his shirt again and moaned roughly at the feel of his warm, taut skin. You ran your hands around to his back, clutching at the muscles there as he lifted you up and you wrapped your legs around his trim waist.
He walked you a few steps over to one of the round tables that dotted the room, shoving the chair aside and overturning it before he set you down on the table.
You kept your legs wrapped around him and threw your head back as he slid his lips away from your mouth, down your neck, finding your pulse point and nipping at it before sucking your sensitive skin between his lips.
You fisted your hands in his undershirt pulling him closer to you so you could reach the zipper on his costume and pull it down further so that the uniform jumpsuit fell to pool around his ankles. Underneath, he wore only a pair of red and black striped boxer briefs.
You couldn't help reaching down to wrap your hand around his cotton clad dick, proving that your many fantasies had been accurate in this regard - he was thick and long and you felt your mouth water.
Beau grunted as you squeezed him and he bucked into your hand. He yanked your t-shirt over your head in one swift movement and then brought his hands up to cup your breasts almost reverently.
He swept his thumb across your nipple, still covered by your cotton and lace bra.
"Beau!" You cried softly on an exhale, your eyes closed by the exquisite pleasure his hands were evoking.
"Shit!" You heard him growl out before he pulled away from you completely.
Your eyes sprang open in time to see him pull his costume back up, shoving his arms into the sleeves, but leaving the garment unzipped.
"I can't do this, Y/N. It's just...I can't, I'm sorry."
You felt tears prick the back of your eyes and you blinked rapidly to dispel them. You hopped off the table and reached down to pick up your t-shirt where he'd tossed it onto the floor.
This had certainly never happened in your fantasies, Beau pulling away from you and making you feel like you were some kind of creep, like you were the same as the guy from earlier who wouldn't take no for an answer.
Shit, you thought, maybe I am no better. Beau already told me once he didn't want to do this.
You turned away from him as you pulled your t-shirt back over your head.
"I'm sorry, Beau." You said quietly. "I pushed you into this, that's a jerk thing to do."
You felt his heavy hand on your shoulder as he turned you to look at him. When you glanced up at him again you knew that the tears you were fighting were noticeable because he swore softly under his breath.
"Aw, honey, please don't cry." He cursed at the ground again. "I was trying to avoid hurting you, and look what I did."
He thumbed away the one tear that escaped and stepped close to you again. "Y/N, you didn't push me into anything tonight, not at all."
He swallowed hard and the muscle in his jaw jumped. "You have no idea how much I want you. How much I wanna lay you down right here, how desperate I am to pull you apart with pleasure, to keep you coming on my tongue."
His voice was low and hypnotic, his slow drawl dragging out the words till they dripped with heat and heavy passion.
You licked your lips and watched him do the same, as you tried very hard not to leap on him once again.
Seeming to realize what he was doing, Beau pulled away again and shoved his hands through his hair.
"But, I can't. I would be an asshole to get into something like this, with someone like you."
You frowned. "What do you mean, someone like me?"
He shook his head, and continued as though he hadn't heard you.
"For four months, I've been good, I've resisted the temptation of you. But then I walked in here tonight, and saw you looking...well, looking how you do tonight, and I caved."
"Which is an asshole excuse, I know. I'm as shitty as the prick I pulled off of you."
You shook your head adamantly now. "You absolutely are not! How could you think that?"
Beau looked at you like the answer was obvious. "Y/N, I'm a disaster. I've only been divorced a year, and I still don't really know what happened there, or how it happened. Feels like we made promises to each other but she had her fingers crossed or something."
He folded his arms over his chest, and stood with his legs spread shoulder width apart. You tried not to notice how hot his stance was, or the fact that you could still see the top of his underwear.
He continued, his tone full of disgust at himself. "But what makes me feel really sleezy is the fact that I'm your boss. It's SO wrong for me to think of you like this, to act like this. I can't sleep with a woman I can also fire, it's a complete dick move."
You frowned but before you could say anything he continued.
"Y/N, from the second I saw you in the office that first day in your tight, navy blue skirt and blue and white striped blouse, I've been trying my hardest not to be a disgusting pig, to rein myself in and stop lusting over you." He shook his head. "But it's pretty much impossible."
He shook his head again. "But it's wrong of me, and...well, I'm sorry."
You took a minute to digest everything he said and then rolled your eyes. "Beau, I don't want to marry you tomorrow. There's no rush here, we don't have to try and label ourselves right away."
Beau looked like he was going to interrupt you, so you pushed forward.
"And how will you ever move on from your divorce if you never...move on? You're gonna have to take the leap eventually, so why not leap on me?"
You grinned at him and an answering smile tugged at his lips.
His second and most adamant argument had an easy solution. "And as for you being my boss...uh, no you're not."
Beau frowned deeply. "What are you talking about? I'm the Sheriff, I'm everyone's boss."
"Not mine, honey. I'm a civilian administrator. I technically work for the county." You grinned at him again. "You can't fire me, sweetie!"
He let that sink in for a moment before making you squeak with surprise as he leapt at you and picked you up, slamming you against the wall beside the jukebox.
You wrapped your legs around his waist again and held onto his biceps for balance as he pressed his lips to the delicate skin behind your ear.
You let out a little gasp of pleasure and he pulled back to look at you, worry etched into his beautiful features.
"You sure about this, though, darlin'? I'm still a complete mess. I don't know what this might turn into, and even if I'm not your boss, we still have to work together."
You leaned forward and kissed him deep and slow, only pulling away when you were going to pass out from lack of oxygen. "I'm a big girl, Beau," you panted. "If worse comes to worst, I can keep my personal and professional life separate, believe me."
A wicked gleam entered your eyes. "For example, I've worked with you every day for four months, did I ever let on that I was fantasizing about you constantly?"
Beau's eyes widened and then darkened. "Really? What kind of fantasies, honey?"
You winked at him. "It's been more than 120 days, baby, so I've got over 120 different fantasies to choose from!"
You pointed back towards the pool table. "One of my most recent ones involves me, you, a long stick and a couple balls."
Beau laughed and started carrying you towards the green felt. As he sat you on the edge of the table, you stripped off his costume and continued on to his undershirt this time without pausing, until he was wearing nothing but his boxers.
Running your hands over his well-muscled flesh while he pushed his skilful fingers down the front of your daisy dukes, causing you to cry out with need, you quickly realized something.
The reality was SO much better than the fantasy.

THE BROKEN CIRCLE
Beau!Dean x hunter!reader
Characters: (mostly) Beau Arlen / (flashbacks) Dean Winchester x hunter!reader, also Denise and Cassie AU: "Supernatural" x "Big Sky" crossover, set after S15 of SPN
One Shot (???) UPDATE: A SEQUEL IS PLANNED. THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE POSITIVE FEEDBACK!! đ§Ąđ§Ąđ§Ą
Warnings: - Major MC death mentioned (end of SPN spoiler), implied panic attack, angst and just buckets of tears (I'm coping with a certain someone's death here) - No use of Y/N - English is not my native language
Words: ~4,050
Setup: "Winchester" - That's the name you applied with at the police department, when you started a new life in Big Sky, Montana, 4 years ago. It's your deceased husband's name. Or rather, meant-to-be husband, since Dean died 2 weeks before he got to propose to you. Today you return from your one month time-out. But a lot has changed since you went to visit Sam; You've got a new sheriff.
And he's the same man you thought you'd never see again.
The Broken Circle
Cold.
In one word, that's your last memory of when you gingerly cupped Deanâs face. How your tender fingers caressed his bruised cheeks and wiped away the dirt from his battered skin. Shakily combed out the rubble from his damp brown hair and scrubbed the dry blood off his fingers.
The last time you squeezed Dean's lifeless hand before it slipped from your trembling fingers. Cold and busted lips scraped against yours when you gently kissed him goodbye for the last time in this life.
...Or so you hoped. Who knew what heaven had in stock for you two.
You just wished you could have been there, in that damn barn. Been with him in his last minutes. Could have held his hand next to Sam. Could have told him how much you loved him. Reassure him that you'd give up the hunting life like you both had planned. That you'd try and live a good life for him... and that you were sure you'd see each other again.
But instead you had to take leave of Dean's lifeless body. Hollow. Drained of everything that made him the man you loved and had planned to spend the rest of your life with.
Dean gave his life for so many innocent people â hell, for the entire world. But he never got to have his own life. Never got to live it the way he wished to.
It just seemed so damn unfair. You had so much planned for your future. Have yourself some rug rats, a dog maybe, a house, a garden with those ridiculous white picket fences. Youâd live a cherry pie life once youâd leave the hunting life behind you.
Or so you liked to picture it in your heads. On those rare, peaceful nights where you'd rest in each others arms like an old couple. His fingers combing your hair while your thumb carefully stroked his battered knuckles. Whispers of daring dreams filling the silence.
But reality was cold. Bloody. Like an animal put down. With a last effort, put to rest on his bed in the bunker by Sam and you.
This image will haunt you for the rest of your life, you know it. It already did for the past 5 years. If only you could have â
"Winchester?"
You blink rapidly, your mind thrown off for a moment when you snap out of your spiraling thoughts.
Denise waves with a paper in front of you to get your attention back. "She was mutilated. And it wasn't a bear. Her heart had been cut out."
"Jesus," Cassie breathes with a look of shock and disgust, shifting uncomfortably next to you.
"Yeah," Denise's face grimaces into a painful one. Her eyes are darting from Cassie, down to the report and back up to your still slightly absent gaze. "What do you make of it, Winchester?"
"Sounds like a werewolf." Damn it. The words slipped your lips before you could fully snap out of your memories. âI mean, sounds like a bit far-fetched but Iâll let Sheriff Tubbs know.â You force a wry smile when you grab the piece of paper from Deniseâs hands, ready to head out of this messed up conversation.
âSheriff Arlen,â Cassie calls after you and you stop in your tracks to look back at them with arched eyebrows.
âSheriff who?â You inquire with a puzzled look. How the hell could you have missed this much in just one month off duty?
âSheriff Beau Arlen,â Cassie repeats and Denise quickly adds with a teasing hum, âAnd his ass is just- mmmh-â she makes a chefâs kiss hand gesture while Cassie rolls her eyes with an amused chuckle.
You let out a huff in mock-annoyance but canât help the faint grin on your face. Maybe, one day youâd dare to befriend them. Maybe, whenever youâd feel ready for letting people into your life again. But not today.
Ready to pick up your work at the police department, your eyes immediately land on the new name on what used to be Sheriff Tubbs office. âSheriff Beau Arlenâ is written in an arched, golden text across the doorâs glass.
You raise a sceptical eyebrow at the name. âBeauâ you spit out the name under your breath, already feeling a distaste for this new sheriff.
In your defence, it wasnât personal. It is just in your nature to feel sceptical towards anything new, especially people. Perhaps you gave up your hunting life. But any hunter will tell you between a swig of whiskey and a loaded shotgun that youâll never lose your hunter instincts, no matter how hard you try. Thatâs not how it works. You donât end this business by walking out the door.
It ends you.
In some way you were like trained bloodhounds. Always one chase away of your next kill. Unable to ignore the smell of blood. You were painfully aware of that fact. You could never live a fully normal life without the occasional hunch or a nervous look over your shoulder.
But youâd learned to accept it and make the best of it.
Here you can still help people. Save people. And once in a while nudge the sheriff into the right direction when you suspected something more than a suicide. Or youâd discreetly plant anti-possession charms on people when you had a hunch that demons were involved in a case.
Yet Sam believes you had retired fully from hunting like he did. And you liked to belief so, too. But on some days you werenât so sure whether you even wanted to.
In some twisted way, hunting will always connect you with Dean. And at the same time it pains you, like a slow poison. Because you know itâs what he hated and never wanted for you.
And what took him from you.
It is a walk on a tight rope, really.
With a little huff of defiance you push the door to the sheriffâs office open. Your eyes dart around the empty room as you lean slightly forward, âSheriff Arlen?â
Nothing. Oh well. With a quick glance over your shoulder you decide to take the chance and just drop off the report. You step inside, your fingers tracing the edge of the paper as your mind is instinctively drawn back to the case. Iâll have to look into this⌠bloody werewolf â
âAh, Deputy Winchester, ainât it?â
You freeze in mid motion.
And so does time. The paper slowly slides from between your trembling fingers and flutters to the floor. The unmistakable voice jolting through your mind and body like a lightning bolt. Your breath is caught in your throat, your mind and body paralysed.
The world holds its breath.
This is impossible.
â...Winchester, innit?â he repeats as he steps into the office and casually walks up to you, a wide smile spread across his face.
It canât â NO.
You donât dare to turn around.
Not that your body would be capable of any movement anyway. Every muscle is tense, your spineâs gone completely rigid. And your heartâs hammering against your ribs like itâll crack your chest open from the inside.
You stand there like a deer caught in headlights. Headlights of a â67 Chevy Impala called Baby.
It has to be my imagination.
âYa got somethinâ for me there? Oh-â You feel his elbow briefly brush your side as he bends down to pick up the paper next to your foot.
You donât move an inch and stare ahead.
He straightens up again and steps around you to place it down on his desk. When he finally moves into your view and turns around to face you with his warm smile â your heart stops.
Emerald green eyes look back at you. Deep and sparkling green oceans. Alive.
Your brain freezes. Your mind scrambling for an explanation but failing to come up with anything.
This canât be.
After a moment of tense silence, the tremors of your bottom lip make way for what your mind refuses to believe in.
âDean?â
His name slips you in a mere breathless murmur. Afraid that whatever this is, will shatter the moment you dare to breath again.
Beau raises a brow. âDean?â
He repeats the name with such nonchalance, such valuelessness, like itâs just some random clerk who heâs got no business with. As if that name didnât mean the world to you once. Still would. Still does.
But the way his name dropped from his lipsâŚ
It clogs your airways. And the question mark at the end was him ramming a dagger into your heart and twisting it, without him even realising.
âUh, no ainât that.â He gently shakes his head and his lips melt into a cheeky smile as if that would make his next words any less painful.
âIâm Beau.â
Silence. Once again you feel like the airâs sucked out of your lungs. Like someone had pushed you off a cliff.
Someone who is an imposter of your deceased husband.
Beau. Your jaw clenches. And the name bounces off your mind. Your initial reaction being immediate rejection. No, youâre not... Beau.
Your eyes flicker across the man in front of you.
He might look quite⌠changed. Heâs got a beard, neatly trimmed even. His hair is longer and⌠soft. Gone was the rugged and calloused man you loved. But it is still him. His eyes with their hidden secrets lingering behind those intense glinting, emerald green pools. His bow legs youâd recognize out of a hundred. His voice, his features, his â everything. Everything on him seems much softer but still⌠in your eyes, itâs Dean. No doubt.
âWhy are ya lookinâ like you saw a ghost?â Beau questions with a tilt of his head, leaning back against the edge of his desk.
His voice snaps you out of your intense gaze. Your mouth opens, but no words make it past your quivering lips. All words drowned out in a flood of a million questions. Your focus drifts off, your eyes darting around the office like youâre expecting Gabriel to pop up any second and laugh at you.
But the room stays reduced to the two of you.
You feel like youre on a tipping point.
Hands clenched, one subtly moves back to your hidden silver dagger â you do what you were trained to do in situations like these; Your mind grips for the lifeline and kicks into hunter mode. You rattle off the list of possible monsters; Shapeshifter? Ghoul? Am I dreaming? Is it some sick game of a trickster God? â
âDarlinâ? You alright?â he asks, his voice now more concerned. You look terrified. As pale as a sheet, the blood drained from your face. Close to a panic attack, he guesses by your rapid breaths. Beau reaches out with his hand, gently patting your arm to get your attention. âHey⌠Easy, just breathe.â
At his touch you jolt and finally snap out of your state of shock. The hand hovering over the concealed weapon falters. His worried eyes lock with yours.
The life-line snaps. Your mind tips over. Enough to make your stomach twist and turn, about to throw up. With only one shared look, everythingâs back; The pain, the poignant grief, the cold skin under your fingertips, Deanâs lifeless expression, emerald eyes gone dull, the stench of decay, of old blood and dirt and his burning flesh and-- it all crashes down on you. All the emotions and memories you had buried in the depths of your mind, now laid open.
Fresh and hungry. Slowly swallowing you whole. Again.
âI- I donât feel so⌠good â sorry,â you sputter, your hand clutching your chest in an effort to keep it together. The same second you spin around on your heels and storm out of the office without looking back once.
Beau. His mere presence was suffocating.
You remember the moment you and Sam cleaned up Deanâs lifeless body. How your fingers brushed against a folded paper, carefully tucked away in his jacketâs inside pocket.
Samâs face had contorted the moment you pulled it out. Clearly, he had known what secret the paper held and before you got to question his knowing look, he suddenly got up. While walking out, he said heâd give you some time alone with his brother.
Once you unfolded the notepaper halfway, your breath stopped. Your eyes slowly shifted from one scribbled word to the next, each of them hitting harder than the next, each of them taking more of your breath. You swallowed past the lump in your throat when the realization of what youâd been holding in your hand slowly set in.
They were notes of Dean. Notes for your upcoming anniversary in two weeks.
You unfolded the rest of it and your eyes widened. The paper began to crumple in your shaking hands while wet stains swallowed some of his jotted down keywords. When your burning eyes reached the last four words, it had felt like whatever was left of your broken heart had just been ripped out entirely.
The raw emotions rolled down your cheeks, your tears mixing with his last unspoken wordsâŚ
âWill you marry me?â
Beau was left back staring at the slammed door in bewilderment and a little stunned. After a moment, he sighs and pushes off the desk to follow after you.
âWinchester!â He calls down the corridor, watching you stumble out the front door into the outside. He jogs after you, slightly panting, while his eyes dart around the parking lot in search for you.
The rain crashes down on him the moment he steps outside. His head briefly tilts up to face the grey sky with an annoyed groan. The raindrops are pattering against his creased forehead, running down his cheeks to pool at the tip of his beard.
But then he hears a muffled sniffle next to him. Strands of his soaked hair fall into his face when he whirls his head around, spotting you leaned against the wall.
âNo- no â it canât be you â Damn it â it canâtâŚâ you mutter under your rapid breaths, somehow trying to fight your scrunched up, stinging eyes with words of common sense. Your chest feels constricted. Your heartâs hammering in your ears and your breathâs clipped, feeling like you might faint any moment of lack of oxygen.
Leaning back against the wet wall for some support, your mindâs on the brink of a breakdown. Thereâs no explanation for this. This canât be happening.
Beau suddenly appears in front of you and before you get to react, he places a hand on your shoulder. You flinch but donât pull away. His hand feels heavy against your soaked jacket, grounding, gentle â but casual, like you would with a stranger. You are strangers.
âHey, hey take it easy. Youâre gonna give yourself a panic attack. Youâll be okay.â He says as he crouches down to your level. He glances over your trembling body and how your eyes try to avoid his, your expression like youâd just witnessed a murder in slow-motion.
âLook at me, deep breaths.â Beau speaks in a firmer, yet gentle tone, trying to break through your panicked state.
When you refuse to look up, he tilts his head down to meet your eyes behind some soaked stray hair that sticks to your skin. He pushes them out of your face, his intense gaze searching your contorted face for some form of hint for whatâs got you so spooked.
He gives your shoulder a gentle squeeze. While his soothing words just keep coming, his voice now a lower whisper as heâs desperately trying to understand what is going on in that head of yours, âHey, câmon⌠talk to me, WinchesterâŚâ
Your eyes are burning from the tears that have been building up until now. Eyelashes heavy and clumped together by the droplets of the rain. And his intense eyes staring into yours, the very same eyes you fell in love with over 10 years ago, do nothing to ease your pain.
You try to tear your gaze away from his, but find yourself caught in them. Itâs like youâre staring into a beautiful forest after years of living in a desert. They pull you in, and you feel like you are right back where youâd always longed to be. Home.
But a home that isnât yours any more. The soul behind those eyes looks familiar and yet unfamiliar at the same time. You thought youâd never see those eyes again â but those very same eyes hold no memory of you.
The same question keeps repeating in your head, ripping at your heart and soul like a Hellhound.
Dean⌠is this you?
His voice cuts through your thoughts like a soft knife. âTake deep breaths darlinâ, itâs oka-â
âPlease- just-â you cut him short, a painful, shaky breath rippling through your voice, âJust stop talking.â Beauâs voice is like a dagger to your heart, twisting it whenever he speaks up. Mocking your memories with that uncanny tone of his.
Iâm just tired. You hear Deanâs voice in your head and just like him, you wished you didnât feel a damn thing.
Beau raises a brow and tilts his head forward, studying your face. For a moment he opens his mouth about to speak again, but when he sees you flinch, he forces himself to shut it closed.
His jawâs clenched from fighting the urge to talk and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the entire situation. Not knowing where to go with himself or what to do without making things worse. He isnât sure what it is, but something about you tugs at his heart in a way he canât quite understand. But he quickly dismisses it, for now.
His eyes snap up to the sky when the rain starts to increase. Heavy drops splatter off the both of you, coaxing a single tear to let go of the corner of your eye. It was like the sky cried for you. Eyes that parched exactly 5 years ago.
Without a word he moves closer, gently wrapping his free arm around your waist. But you stop him before his palm touches your side. Your hand's shaking as it clings to his wrist like a lifeline.
Beauâs eyes widen in surprise, but he doesnât comment on it. His expression grows pensive and his eyebrows slightly furrow, watching your trembling form. Your chest's heaving heavily, like youâre struggling for air. And your eyes are out of focus, like they're reliving some nightmare.
He suddenly feels a strong protectiveness - decides to hold himself back, though, afraid he might make things worse. But it pains him terribly to see you this way, even if he might not know you, yet.
You donât say anything. Unable to form the right words as nothing could express the storm of contradicting emotions you are trapped in. The wavering grip on his arm is clenching and unclenching subtly as if unsure whether you want to push him away or pull him in.
âSorry,â you finally croak between shuddering breaths, unsure what you were even apologizing for, âIâm sorryâŚâ
Why were you apologizing? A strange feeling settles in his guts, one of this being a lot bigger than he could comprehend.
Next moment you know, youâre pulled into a tight hug. Both his arms wrapping around you to pull you close and hold you together.
At first you stiffen. Standing there like a fragile, shaking tree. Your arms pressed against your sides, unable to comprehend any more what is happening.
But he keeps you in his embrace, murmuring soothing words, muffled by your hair and the heavy rain. You lift your head slightly, just enough for your wavering eyes to meet his again.
Thatâs when the realization hits you. He looks so whole. So unbroken. His skin and his hair was smooth and tender beneath that thin layer of rain. He lacks any form of scar, any edges or any memory of the horrors you and he had faced and committed. Your heart twists; This isnât what a scarred hunter looks like. And at the same time you feel your heart sink at the next conclusion⌠Beau would have been Deanâs idea of a perfect life, without ever having been born into the hunting business.
And it makes you wonder whether he was granted that alternate life.
Beau feels your trembling body against him and how your gaze is searching his face for something he doesn't know. Why are you looking at him like that? A lump forms in his throat. His hand gently caresses your back in a circle motion, while his other keeps stroking your hair.
âItâs alright, sâokay. Youâre okay.â Beau says in a soothing, comforting tone and he tugs you a little closer, allowing you to rest against him.
Your wet hair falls into your face once more when your head drops to his chest. You both stay still, the only sound being the pitter-patter from the raindrops against the hood of his truck and the puddles around you. Your ragged breathâs nearly drowned out by the rain. The world seems to have shrunk to the beat of his heart softly thudding against your ear.
And that breaks the dam. Tears it down as the floods of emotions search their way out. Your shoulders rise and buckle against his chest. The tears finally break free, streaming down your face, mixing with the rain soaking your clothings. Your body wracked with sobs â raw, desperate, painful. Liberating.
You begin to shake uncontrollably, the sobs growing more and more powerful. They start to rack through every fibre of your body. Your legs grow unsteady beneath you, daring to crumble from the weight of every emotion you had buried in the past 5 years released and unloading all at once.
âI donât know whatâs going on, but Iâll stay right here as long as ya need me to. CâmereâŚâ He reassures you, and pulls you even closer. His chin comes to rest on top of your head, his facial hair brushing against your scalp and his warm breath wafting down at you. âJust let it out⌠youâre gonna be okay⌠youâre not alone, âkay?â
You clutch at his jacket tightly, holding onto him like youâre drowning. Like youâre afraid he might be a dream after all. Might disappear from your grasp at any moment. Everything spills out of you, incoherent words bubbling from your wet lips. âY-y-youâre alive- youâre alive- a-alive- I missed you so much, Dean- so so much-â
Beau canât exactly make out the words that are tumbling from your mouth, but he can feel you shaking against him terribly. He quickly takes his big jacket off to drape it over you, to try and keep the rain and cold off you.
His heart tightens at the sight of your curled-up body, clinging to him while shivering badly and breaking apart in his arms. He slowly begins to speak again, a hint of an encouraging smile on his face, âHey, âm gonna pick ya up. Ya ainât gonna stand that cold and rain. Yaâll get sick.â He then places his arms on your back and under your thighs, before lifting you up off the ground in one smooth motion.
He holds you close against his chest, wrapping his jacket over you for extra warmth. The rain patters against the concrete floor while his boots splash through the puddles, carrying you over to his truck.
You donât protest as your body was giving in at this point. Like a run down shed in a storm.
Your fingers slowly going numb from the death grip, the wet and cold. You choke on your sobs while the tears keep rolling down your reddened cheeks.
But from joy.
You donât know whether he is Dean or not. Whether this is real or you finally lost it.
But in this very moment you didnât care.
You let yourself drift back to the happiest place in your mind. One you hadnât dared to visit for many years. Locked up and keys buried along your husband. Deep down in your broken heart.
When you close your eyes and press the side of your face against his chest, you can hear his heart pounding. When he speaks, you hear Deanâs voice above you, soft and peaceful.
And you feel his body through the drenched pieces of clothings between you.
He feels warm. Warm.
A/N: it was meant to be a drabble IT WAS MEANT TO BE A DRABBLE
I'M NOT CRYIN'- OKAY FINE I'm still coping with his death - I haven't even watched it since I'm still catching up with the seasons. GAWD I HTE THIS - I JUST NEEDED CLOSURE DAMN IT
Anyway, I just had to get this story off my chest before next year. I donât know yet whether it deserves more parts but do let me know if you think so!

âI need a favor.â Cassie grimaced walking over to your desk.
âWhat now?â you playfully whined.
âI need you to go sweet talk your bestie about the getting a copy of the report.
âCass, I donât think heâll be ok with that.â You took a drink of your coffee. âThey sealed it.â
âOh, come on itâs you. Heâll at least let you see it. I just need a couple dates.â You gave him an unamused look âPlease.â You sighed and picked up your phone. âThank you (y/n) I owe you oneâ
âYea, yea, yeaâ you teased as you opened your contacts, you scrolled until you found his picture and tapped the call icon next to it. You put the phone up to your ear as it begins to ring.
âHello Darlinâ.â His gruffy voice stirred up the butterflies in your stomach.
âHello, Sheriff Arlen.â You said in your best flirty voice. He chuckled. You returned to your normal voice. âHowâs your day going?â
âItâs been alright. Checking up on paperwork. Howâs yours?â
âEh ok, I guess. I was just sitting here thinking and ya know what I Â realized?â
âWhatâs that?â You could hear the smile in his voice.
âI havenât told my best friend was a handsome son of a bitch he is today."
He laughed. âWhat do you want?â
âBeau Arlen, I had offended you would accuse me of kissing ass to get something!â
He stayed silent for a second. âAre you done?â
âYes.â
âAre you gonna tell me what you want.â
âHave you eaten lunch yet?â
âNo, I havenât.â
âIâll be there in 15.â
âOh lord. What are you getting me into now sweetheart?â
âSee ya soon.â
As you walk up to the front doors of the sheriffâs station armored with a paper sack containing one of Beauâs favorite sandwiches from a local dinner, you pass Mo. He tipped his hat. âMornin', little lady.â He said with a smile.
âDeputy.â You returned the smile with a nod.
âHeâs in his office.â He told you as you grabbed the door handle.
âThanks Pop!â you walked in and made your way back to his office, but he wasnât there. You grin as an idea pops into your hand. You sit in his chair and clear a space. Careful not to mess up his organized chaos. Leaning back, you plop your boots on his desk and cross your ankles. When he opens the door â´ you lean back further and cross your arms behind your head.
He laughed. âPlease make yourself at home.â
âJust trying to see how the other half lives.â You smiled at him. He laughed again. âNow I hope you donât mind, but I did some paperwork organizing while I waited.â
He pressed his lips together and flared his nostrils. âPlease tell me your kidding.â
Your grimaced âI thought I was helping.â You said as you sat up.
He rushed over to his paperwork and started looking through the piles. You inhaled through your nose as he leaned in front of you, taking in his intoxicating scent of blue vetiver, sandalwood and citrusy notes. He always smelled so good.
You started laughing. âBeau, Iâm just messing with you. I know better than to mess with your system.â You put air quotes on the word system.
âHey, my desk, my process.â He finally noticed the paper sack sitting on the empty side of his desk. âIs that?â he looked at you and pointed to the bag. You nodded. âOh, you can have whatever you want.â He said as he unwrapped his sandwich.
You smiled. âNow remember you said that.â
âYeah, yeah. Get to it.â He said in between bites.
âI need a copy of the Goodwin report.â You gave him a big smile. He swallowed and his face went hard. âOr just the dates. Cassie has a theory, and she needs dates to confirm it.â you puckered your lips and stuck out your bottom one.â He stared at you, his face still hard as stone. âPlease B.â You pleaded.
âYa know you are putting me in a very difficult position sweetheart.â
âNobody would know.â You turned on your puppy dog eyes.
He sighed âI canât give you a hard copy, but I can give you dates...â
âThatâs all I need.â
He leaned over you again onto his keyboard. âLook away.â
You rolled your eyes. âSo paranoid.â You put your hands over your eyes. You can hear the lead on paper and he starts to hum. âAre you humming Elvis?â
âYes. Ya know you never cease to amaze me. Not many people could recognize an Elvis song from a hum.â He stopped writing. âAlright.â He turned to face you and leaned against his desk. He held out the piece of paper but snatched it back as you reached for it. âHold on there darlinâ he havenât agreed on a price yet.â
Your jaw dropped. âBeaufort Arlen.â He rolled his eyes. That wasnât his name and you knew it, but you could resist calling him that. His reaction was adorable. Â âYou want me to offer you a bribe?â
âNo, not a bribe. More like one hell of a good cook persuading her handsome sheriff friend with her famous chicken and dumplingsâ He winked at you.
âFine, but I wonât have time tonight.â You bargained. âIâll drop them off tomorrow night.â
âOh yeah. Youâre date.â You nodded. âMaybe if you keep this one around you guys could double with me and Tiffany.â You rolled your eyes when he said her name, âDonât be mean (y/n). She regrets what she did, and Things have been good lately.â
âYeah, ok.â You stood up and he handed you the piece of paper. âThanks for your help sheriff.â You head towards the door
He sighed. âAny time.â
Reader's Pov
âHow did he smell today?â Denise asked you as you walked into the office.
You smiled and took a deep breath remembering his cologne. âDreamy.â Â You sink down in the chair in front of her desk.
She smiled. âAnd tell me why you never asked him out again?â
âNever got the chance. Tiffany just keeps weaseling her way back in, butâ you pointed your finger at her. âI am over Beau Arlen.â She raised her eyebrows. âI am Denise. I have a date tonight.â
âOh really?â
âYes, Heâs name is Knox.â
âOh, the new guy! He so cute.â
âI know. Which is why I said yes when he asked me out.â You turned your head as you heard the bell that hung above the door. âSpeaking of cute.â
Cassie smiled. âDid you get it?â
âI got the dates. He said he couldnât make me a copy.â You held out the paper for her.
âThat will work.â She took it. âThank you.â she started walking to her desk.
âWelcome.â You called after her.
âWell, I should probably get back to work, got a big olâ pile of nothing to get back to.
âHon youâve closed 3 cases in the last 2 weeks, Iâd say itâs a good time for a break.â Denise advised.
âOr you could do some digging for me and give me something to do.â You said with a smile.
âI can try, maybe you should call Beau.â She smiled and you rolled your eyes.
You made your way back over to your desk. You turn your computer on as you sit down. Drumming your finger while you watch the loading screen you decide to text him. You take your phone out of your jacket pocket and open it to your existing conversation.
Y/N: Beaufort
You opened your email while you waited for a reply. Nothing, absolutely nothing.
Your phone buzzed.
Beau: Iâm all out of favors today darlinâ
Y/N: Rude of you to assume Iâm only texting you for a favor. I was actually gonna ask you if you needed help with anything.
Beau: Calm down. It was a joke. Not today. Iâm still stuck at the office I have to get this paperwork done TODAY.
Y/N: Damnit. I need something to do.
Beau: Why donât you go home early and get ready for this big date you have tonight.
Y/N: My big date isnât until 7.  Are you saying I need 5 hours to pretty myself up.  đ¤
Beau: You roll out of bed beautiful, and you know it. Just think you deserve to pamper yourself every once in awhile
Y/N: Nice save.
You hit the send button and turn off your screen. âCassie!â You yelled.
âYea?â she yelled back.
âPlease tell me you need help with something!â
âActually yes.â Â You jumped out of your seat and rushed to her desk. âAre you that bored?â she asked.
âYes, Iâm freaking dying here.â She handed you the papers in her hand and started giving you the run down of the case she was working on.
âIâm right.â Cassie whispered as you finish  reading the dates that were in Beauâs handwriting to her.
âYouâre right.â You reassured her.
âHoly shit. I have to go talk to Jenny.â She pulled her coat on. âSee you at the bar tonight.â
âUm probably not. â
âIâm sorry I forgot, I hope I donât see you tonight,â she winked at you. âCan we give this one a fighting chance though?â
âHardy har, har.â

He sat down at the bar and looked up at the clock. 8:55. Sheâd probably be getting rid of the loser and walking through the door any minute now. âHey Pete.â He said as the bartender approached him on the other side of the bar.
âHowâs it going sheriff?â Pete said as he sat on a beer and a shot glass in front of Beau.
âWe may need a bigger glass.â He told Pete as he poured the whiskey.
âThat bad huh?â Pete asked. Beau just shook his head. He downed the shot of whiskey.
âI donât know Jenny. She seemed different about this one.â Cassie said as her and Jenny walked up to the bar. âHey Beau.â
âLadiesâ Beau said tipping his hat.
âYou want some company?â Jenny said as she sat on the barstool beside him.
âSure, why not?â
âWell, geez donât get too excited.â Cassie teased sitting on the other side of him
âWhatâs gotcha down?â Jenny asked as she got Peteâs attention. He brought over 2 more beers and 2 shot glasses for the girls. â
âPaperwork day, Jennyâ
âOh, thatâs right.â Pete began pouring their shots and a second one for Beau. âCheersâ Jenny said holding the full shot glass up. Beau and Cassie repeated. The three of them took their shots and sat the glasses on the bar.
Beau looked up at the clock again, 9:00. Come on where was she?
âPete, can we just get a bottle?â Jenny said grabbing her beer and her glass. Pete grabbed an unopened bottle of the same whiskey and handed it to her. âThank you. Can you put it on my tab?â Pete nodded. âGrab your glasses and bottles.â She led them over to a high top by the dart board.
âYou really wanna play darts?â Beau asked sitting his beer and glass on the table.
âWell not really, but it gets you away from that clock.â
âTouche.â
âCome on. Weâll make it fun. Every time someone gets a bullseye, we drink, every time someone misses the board, we drink.â Jenny persuaded.
âEvery time someone throws a dart, we drink.â Cassie teased making Beau chuckle.
Jenny grabbed 3 darts of different colors, handing one color to Cassie and another to Beau. âAlright.â He gestured for her to go first.
They took turns throwing the darts on the board and he was actually having a decent time. After 3 shots he checked his phone. 9:30. What the hell.
âWell, I guess (y/n)âs date must be going well. 2 and a half hours. No calls, no texts, and she hasnât shown up here yet.â Cassie said.
âOr sheâs at home drinking alone.â Beau rebuttals
Jenny poured another round of shots. They clinked and downed them. âBeau, youâre up.â
As he was throwing his last dart, he heard Jenny let a whistle out. There she was finally. Beau threw his dart and turned around. His heart nearly exploded in his chest. She was wearing olive green western looking dress, low cut, very low cut. The lower hem dangle over her cowboy boots, His eyes traced up to her face, God she was just beautiful. Makeup done up all nice and her hair in curls under a cowboy hat that matched her boots. What he wouldnât give to be the guy holding her hand right now. It should be him not this pretty country boy wannabe. Ugh he rolled his eyes. She smiled at them and mouthed the words oh my god as they made their way to the bar.
âDamn she looks good.â Jenny exclaimed.
âSo does her date!â Cassie added as they sat down at their table. He purposely sat in the chair facing the opposite direction.
âHe ainât that good lookinâ.â Beau sneered.
âOh Beau. Donât be jealous. You know we love you too.â Cassie teased.
His ears got hot as he heard her laugh. Clearly, she was interested in this guy. Â He huffed and poured himself a shot.
âHey pretty lady!â Cassie said as (y/n) walked up to the table.
She smiled. âHey guys. This is Knox.â Â She gestured towards him. âKnox. These are my best friends. Jenny,â Jenny put out her hand the Knox shook it. âCassie.â They repeated. âAnd this is Beau.â
He put his hand out âSheriff Beau Arlen. Iâm sorry Knot was itâ (y/n) glared at him.
Knox chuckled. âNo sir, Knoxâ he emphasized the x on the end. âWith a xâ
âMy bad.â Beau said with a smile.
âSo, tell us Knox what do you do?â Jenny asked.
âIâm a veterinarian.â She raised her eyebrows at Cassie.
âOh, are you going to work at Andyâs place?â Jenny asked
âUntil I take it over.â Jenny and Cassie furrowed their eyebrows. âAndy is my dad. He is fixinâ to retire within the next year or so.â
Beauâs phone started to ring. âThatâs probably Tiff.â He noticed (y/n)âs eye roll. âI should get going anyways. See you girls tomorrow. Box nice meeting you.â She shook her head. âGood night yâall.â
Reader's Pov
Today was your return to the office after taking a 3-day week. You and Knox made things official after 4 weeks of dating. He took you out to his familyâs lake house for the weekend to celebrate. You took a deep breath and walked through the door.
A big grin spread across Deniseâs face when she looked up âHow was he. I mean it? â
You chuckled. âIt was good.â You turn to walk to your desk
âThe weekend or the sex?â she asked.
âBoth.â You said and started walking. She chuckled.
As you sat down your phone started ringing. You looked at the screen âReally?â you said out loud. It was Beau, you havenât really seen or talked to him in about 2 or 3 weeks, only in passing. Wonder what he wants you thought to yourself.
âBeaufort. Whatâs wrong?â
âYou busy today?â
ânot sure I just got in.â
âok well find out and let me know. I need you.â
âOk. Let me talk to Cass and Iâll call you back.â
âOk.â He hung up.
âOk Beau.â You opened the door to find him pacing in his office. âwhatâs wrong?â
âShould I ask Tiffany to marry me?â He blurted out.
âUm excuse me?â You practically fell into the nearest chair as your legs went numb from shock.
âSo, this morning as I was leaving Tiffany stopped me and told me 3 years is long enough to know whether I want to marry her or not.â
Your eyes widened as your jaw dropped. âYouâre kidding me.â
âI wish I was.â
âWell, what did you tell her?â
âI told her I couldnât do this right now. I had to get to work. And if I was gonna ask her to marry me it was going to be on my terms. Not her forcing me into it.â
You know the question you had to ask, but you didnât want to. You didnât want the answer. Your heart hastened as you though over what he would say. â Do you want to marry her?â you couldnât hid the quiver in your voice.
âI donât know.â
You pulled on the bill of your baseball cap trying to hide the tears building in your eyes. âDo you love her?â
â Iâve stuck by her through everything. The lying, the cheating.â
âThatâs not what I asked B.â You began to blink rapidly trying everything that wasnât too obvious to dry out your eyes.
âWhy would I do all that if I didnât.â He stopped mid step. âI think I should just do it. Weâve been together this long. And Iâll probably be with her for the rest of my life anyhow.â
âWell thatâs a hell of a reason.â The words came out before you could stop them.
âLook I know youâre not here biggest fan, but I do care for her. Itâs going to be hard to keep a friend that is mean to my fiancĂŠe donât ya think.â
You shot up out of the chair. The nervousness and pain you felt turned into a white-hot rage. âAre you fucking kidding me right now Beau?!â Your hands begin to shake. You canât hold back the things youâve been dying to say for so long. âShe cheated on you for 2 months. Several times. Itâs not like it was a one-time mistake. God, I swear youâre as dumb as a box of rocks! I have absolutely no idea why you would stay with her. And if you really wanna marry someone that takes the greatest person on the face of this earth for granted, then be my freakin guest.â He just looked at you with a dumbfounded look on your face. Tears started coming back and you didnât bother trying to stop them. âBeau you are my best friend, and I love you, but I can not and will not sit here and watch you throw your life away and marry her.â He opened his mouth; you continued not giving him a chance to argue. âI really donât want to be this person, and I hate that I am saying this. but I canât be your friend if you do this.â You walked out the door, not giving him the chance to tell you he was going through with it anyway. You heard him yell after you, but you couldnât stop. You just wanted to get away from everything.
Beauâs Pov.
He sighed as he got back into his Defender. He pulled his phone out to call (y/n) for the 17th time, straight to voicemail. âSon of a bitch.â He yell as he hit the steering wheel. He scrolled in his contracts and hit the green icon. âCassie.â
âWhatâs up Beau?â
âPlease tell me youâve from (y/n)â
âI thought she was with you.â
âAre you at the office?â
âYea? What the hell happened Beau?â
âIll tell you when I get there.â
Denise and Cassie jumped as Beau charged through the door. âYou guys really havenât seen or talked to her?â He asked.
âNo. Tell us what happened!â Cassie demanded.
âWell, I called her and told her I needed her help. I was given an ultimatum this morning.â Cassie raised her eyebrows. He went over the fight with them. âAnd then she stormed out.â
âOh, Beau. I canât believe you donât see itâ Denise realized what she had said and put her hands over her mouth.
âSee what?â he asked
âNever mind. Iâll make some coffee.â Denise walked away.
âHer phone is going straight to voicemail. Sheâs not at the bar, not at her house. I tried the dinner, a couple parks I know she likes, I tried the gazebo by the lake, I have looked literally everywhere, Cassie, I canât find her.â He was anxious and jittery. They have had some fights in the past. The one they got into was when he took tiffany back was especially bad, but she was always waiting at the bar for him with a beer and a shot.
âJust calm down. Give me a minute.â Cassie got up and walked to the kitchen. âWhat do you know Denise?â
âI shouldnât had said anything.â She kept her back to Cassie. âItâs not my business.â
Cassie walked up to her and put her hand on Deniseâs shoulder âDenise.â
âI thought it was pretty dang obvious, but I guess not. Sheâs in love with Beau. Has been since sheâs known him. Thatâs why she never keeps a man around. Sheâs been hoping one day he would wake up and realize.â
Beau felt the air leave his lungs as he leaned on the kitchen doorframe. She was in love with him. This had to be a joke. What was so special about him? Thereâs no way someone like her could love him. âSheâs in love with me?â
Cassie and Denise spun around. âFrick.â Denise said.
Cassieâs phone started to ring. âHey (y/n).â His eyes shot to Cassie. She was nodding. âAlright. I understand. Take the day. Iâll see you in the morning, ok?â âIf you need anything just call, ok?â ok.â Cassie hung up and walked to her desk. Beau followed. She started writing on a piece of paper.
âAre you going.â
âGo to the Strickland stables. Follow these directions.â She handed him the paper. âSheâll be there.â
âDid she tell you that?â
âTrust me.â she shook the paper at him.
Readerâs pov.
You inhaled deeply looking out at the view as you sat on the wooden fence. You turned your head as you heard the swishing of the grass on jeans. âCassie told you where Iâd be huh?â
âShe wrote me out directions.â He leaned on the fence beside you. âShe told me you used to come here with your brother.â
âYeah, Cody would bring me up here back in the day, when life got too stressful. When we were kids, he told me to throw my problems at the mountains and they would throw solutions back.â You said with a chuckled. The cold wind made the tear dropâs trails sting your skin.
âThey give you anything good today?â
âNot really.â
âCan I try?â
You chuckled. âSure.â He hopped over the fence and stood in front of you. After a minute or two he turned back to you with a big smile on his face. You hopped down. âWhat did they say?â.
He took a couple steps. He was close. âThey told me to stop being such a chicken and do this. He pulled you into him, his hands cupping your face as he leaned in, the anticipation crackling in the air. Then, with a swift, decisive movement, he dipped you backwards, your heels lifted off the ground, his lips meeting yours in a fervent collision, as your bodies pressed tightly together, the world around you faded away.
He brought you back up and rested his forehead against yours. âWell. That was. Some. Damn. Good advice.â You said between heavy pants. He chuckled and kissed you again. You smiled with wide eyes as a thought popped into your head.
âWhat?â
"I just realized that I have several more ways to persuade you now."
his head lifted as he let out a laugh.

Never Again
Beau Arlen & daughter!reader
Requested by anonymous
Synopsis: Beau never wanted his life as a cop to affect your safety, but he doesnât always get what he wants.
âThat wasnât the agreement, Beau, it wasââ
âI know what the âagreementâ was, if you could call it that, but things have changed!â Beau didnât often get too heated with his ex wifeâhe let her do the belittling and he didnât say much against it. But this was different. This was about you.
âSeriously? What, you get a little overprotective and we just throw out what we agreed on?â
Beau ground his teeth, trying to calm down.
âThatâs not what Iâm saying. Iâm just saying that sheâd be safer at my place until all of this blows over.â
âSafer? What, with you out all day andââ
âDonât pretend youâre home anymore than I am,â Beau cut in. âAnd if need be, she can come to the office with me.â
Silence filled the phone for several agonizing seconds.
âThis is really serious, isnât it?â She said finally.
âI wouldnât have called you if it wasnât.â
âAnd youâre not going to back down?â
âYou know I wonât. Not when it comes to her safety.â
âFine then. She can stay with you, but just until this all goes away.â
Beau sighed. He hated how against his ex was with him having custody, and he knew that soon enough there would probably need to be some sort of custody battle if he wanted more time with you, which he did. But for now, heâd settle with having you safe at his place for a few days.
âThank you. Iâll pick her up from school this afternoon.â
âFine.â
Beau was almost surprised that his ex hung up without a crack about you being disappointed when he showed up instead of her. Thereâd been plenty of those lately. Although Beau supposed she was getting tired of it, especially since they both knew it wasnât true; youâd always been your dadâs daughter.
âŚ
Beau arrived at your school at exactly three, eager to get you to his place quickly. He waited in his car, looking around for your familiar green backpack. Five minutes went by. Then ten.
It was nearing four oâclock when Beau finally decided to head inside. At first heâd just figured that you were held up by friends, but this was too long.
Beau made his way through the halls, scanning for you through the hoards of teenagers loitering near lockers as he went. He didnât see you the whole way to the office, and when he went inside he inquired with the first person he sawâa young woman seated behind a computer.
âY/N ArlenâŚâ she repeated in a mumble, her brow drawn in concentration as she typed on her desktop. âYes, here it is. Her uncle brought in a note to get her out of classes early. She left during lunch, about four hours ago.â
Beauâs heart sank to his toes, and in its absence his chest constricted. All the breath left his body as though heâd been thrown to the floor, and for a long, agonizing moment he forgot how to breathe.
âSir?â
The voice of the woman snapped him back to attention.
âYou just let some random man take my daughter?â
She looked taken aback.
âHeâhe had an ID, and his note had your signature on it. That is, if youâre the fatherâBeau Arlen?â The woman produced the note from her desk, and Beau snatched it up. It was his signature alrightâand the forger was an expert. Beau knew deep down that he couldnât blame the woman in front of him, but he couldnât quite get that message to his panicked adrenaline.
âAnd you didnât think to call me?â Before she could respond, Beau continued. âWhat did he look like? Where did they go?â
âI-uhhâŚâ the woman faltered for a second before regaining composure. âWe have security footage in the building as well as parts of the parking lot. Weâll be able to see him, if maybe not his vehicle.â
âShow me.â
The woman faltered again.
âWeâre not really supposed toââ
A quick flash of his badge shut her up.
âŚ
You woke up to the ground rattling beneath you. You tried to push yourself up, but your hands wouldnât move right. There was a coarseâŚsomething, inhibiting your movement. You blinked your eyes open slowly, groaning at the pounding in your head.
You struggled to recall where you were or what was going on. Last you remember, you were at schoolâŚ
You were called into the officeâŚ
You hadnât been feeling very good this morning, so when the woman in the office told you you were being picked up, you didnât stick around to hear the rest. Youâd gone straight to the parking long, expecting to see either your mom, dad, or Avery; your momâs new husband. Secretly, you were hoping for your dad.
Instead, a black SUV swerved in front of you. Before you could berate the driver for almost running you over, the side door swung open, and a man with dark hair and psycho-wide eyes grabbed you around the middle and dragged you inside. A foul-smelling cloth was pressed to your nose, and despite struggling for a couple of minutes, the chloroform took over and you were knocked out.
âŚ
Beau got luckyâthe security cameras had a good shot of both the kidnapper and his car.
He recognized the man immediatelyâthe leader of a local cartel that Beau had been working for months to put away. It was pretty much the worst case scenario.
Halfway through watching the footage, Beau called up the department.
âSheriffâs Department, how can I help you?â
âPoppernick, I need you to pull up traffic cameras of every road leading out of the county from the last four hours.
âBeau? Whatâs goingââ
âNow! Iâll be there in ten minutes.â
âŚ
Once realization set in, so did panic. Youâd been kidnapped, straight out of school! Not to mention the kidnapper hadnât bothered to put on a mask. That took a pretty gutsy criminal.
The motive wasnât hard to figure outâwith a cop for a dad and a lawyer for a mom, your family was pretty well acquainted with criminals. Besides, last time youâd visited your dad, heâd actedâŚoff. Heâd even hinted at you coming to stay with him for a bit. He mustâve been worried about a criminal case.
But the motive wasnât your big problem.
âHey, sheâs awake.â A gruff voice invaded your ears as you felt yourself being twisted into sitting up. âWakey wakey,â the voice taunted, his rough hand slapping your face, making your eyes snap open. âThere we go.â
It was the man whoâd dragged you into the car. He had short dark hair and a twisted smirk that accentuated the scar running from under his eye to his chin.
You glanced around the interior of the car to see just one other personâthe driver. Apparently he was more skittish, because he was sporting a ski mask.
You opened your mouth to speak, only to discover that a thick cloth was stuffed in your mouth, and no sound escaped.
Scar Manâs grin twisted wider at your struggles.
âIf you scream, Iâll slit your throat,â he threatened before lowering the gag.
âWhat do you want?â You demanded after taking in a gulp of air.
âWhatâd you take the gag off for?â Ski Mask asked after hearing your voice.
âGotta make sure her dad gets a good look at his little brat.â The kidnapper chuckled. âYou think she looks banged up enough?â
The driver spared a glance back before shrugging.
âYou could rough her up a bit. But donât go nuts, we gotta give her old man a chance to do what we say before we really mess her up.â
âŚ
Beau was halfway to the department when it hit him. He would have to call his ex.
âNot until Iâve got more to go on,â he muttered to himself. He knew that wasnât the real reason; he couldnât bare to call the mother of his child and tell her that he had let you be taken. He couldnât admit that to anyone, much less to the woman that broke his heart. It would make it too real.
âŚ
Your body felt like a pulsing mass of pain. If Scar Man had taken it easy on you, you didnât want to know what him taking it seriously was. Every square inch of you felt bruised, but you noticed that he took particular care to mark up your face and armsâthe most visible places. You were now tied to a hard metal chair, the ropes around your wrists far too tight. Moving your arms even slightly sent pain shooting up your wrists from where the rope rubbed your skin raw.
âThat should just about do it,â the dark haired man said with a grin. âNow for the finishing touchâŚâ
You tried to move away from him when he pulled out a large knife, but it was futile. You whimpered as he dragged a long cut across your cheek, and you vaguely registered that it seemed to match his own.
âPerfect,â he said with a chuckle. âNow to show it off to dear old dad.â
âŚ
âIâve got the footage, what am I looking for?â Poppernick wasted no time when Beau entered the department, which he appreciated.
âBlack SUV, Honda civic. License plate 23J OV3.â
During the silence while Poppernick went to work, Beau felt his phone buzz in his back pocket. He pulled it out reluctantly, assuming it was his ex wife checking to see if heâd picked you up.
Once he saw the image, he wished it had been her.
Beau staggered back, his feet no longer able to hold him up. Thankfully, the back of his knees collided with a chair, and he fell back into it.
âSheriff?â Poppernick looked away from his computer, and jumped to his feet when he saw the paper-white tone and utter terror in his bossâs face. âBeau!â
Beauâs hand went limp, and Poppernick grabbed the phone before it could fall to the ground. He took one look at the image and his face turned a slightly greenish tint.
âOh gosh.â
âWhatâs going on?â Jenny Hoyt asked immediately after stepping inside, noticing the palpable panic and disgust.
âTheyâŚâ Poppernick couldnât even speak, he just showed Jenny the photo. She swallowed, trying hard to keep her composure.
âQuentin, right?â She asked through gritted teeth, referring to the cartel leader that Beau had been after. The very name seemed to snap Beau back into focus. He sat up ramrod-straight in his chair and turned to Poppernick.
âFinish the trace. Now!â
Poppernick didnât argue, and after a moment longerâŚ
âI got something.â
âŚ
âSee, that wasnât so hard,â Scar Man taunted as he put the camera down. âSoon enough youâll be back with your daddy, and Iâll have him off my back for good.â
You tried to ignore him, too busy trying to breathe through the pain. But his last statement caught your attention.
âYouâreâŚyouâre gonna let me go?â
A harsh grip on your chin had you wishing you hadnât spoken, but the man just tilted your head up and grinned down at you.
âIf our dear sheriff cooperates, and youâre incredibly lucky, then yes.â He dropped his hand and turned to leave without another word.
You wanted to believe him, to hope, but the crazed look in his eyes contrasted his words.
âŚ
Hoyt, Beau, and Poppernick were gathered around Popâs computer screen, tracking the black SUV, when Beauâs phone rang. He answered the unknown number immediately.
âBeau Arlen,â he said instinctively, then waited with bated breath for a response. While Pop had been working, Hoyt had set up a tap on Beauâs cell phone, and he was prepared to keep the kidnapper on the line as long as possible to get the trace.
âNice to finally speak to you, Sheriff,â said a voice that chilled Beau Arlen to his core. âIâve got a sweet little thing that belongs to you who would just love to see you again.â
Beau but back a thousand threats that wanted to escape his lips, and instead went for a smarter question.
âWhat do you want?â
âNice and direct, I like that.â
Beau inwardly cursed himself for not stallingâmaybe he shouldâve went with a threatâbut he also didnât want to make the kidnapper angry.
âWhat I wantââ the kidnapper continued, âis for you to back off the investigation long enough for me to disappear. Itâs reasonableâmore reasonable than you should expect in your position. My cartel is out of your little town, your kid gets home safe, and I get my freedom.â
âYeah, to go terrorize someone elseâs town,â Beau spit out.
âWell theyâre not youâre concern, sheriff. This is.â
There was silence on the other end for a few seconds, and thenâ
âDad?â
Beauâs heart lodged in his throat.
âBaby?â
âDad, donâtââ
âAnd thereâs your proof of life.â Your voice was cut off, replaced by the kidnapper. âNow do we have a deal?â
âI donât negotiate with kidnappers.â
A chilling laugh echoed across the line. âWell then I hope you got a good last look at your daughter.â
âŚ
âDad, donâtââ Ski Mask covered your mouth as Scar Man pulled back the phone to continue talking. Once you stilled, he let you go. Your gaze never left the phone in the dark haired manâs hand, desperate to hear your fatherâs voice.
You needed him more than you ever had, and you knew even just a few words from his voice would help calm you. Youâd been trying hard not to panic, but knowing that your father was just barely out of your reach had tears pricking your eyes and despair stealing your breath.
You donât know what your father said to the man, but his eyes were suddenly on you as a terrifying laugh shook his frame.
âWell then I hope you got a good last look at your daughter.â
A knife was suddenly in his hands, and you didnât know where it had come from.
âNo, please,â you whimpered as he advanced on you, lifting the knife above you.
âŚ
âWait, wait!â Beau demanded as he heard your panicked pleas on the other end.
âYes?â The kidnapper said.
âI want to talk to her.â
âDonât stall, sheriff. I know youâre trying to trace the line. I need a yes or a no, and I need it now unless you want me to start carving into this little girl.â
âIâŚâ Beau glanced helplessly at his people, who were waiting for his response. âOk. Itâs a deal.â
âGood. Youâll get the address to where sheâs being held as soon as Iâm out of the country.â
The line went dead.
âYouâre not really gonna let them go, are you,â Hoyt asked.
âPop, what do you got?â Beau ignored Jennyâs question and focused on Popâs computer.
âNothing on the trace, there wasnât enough time. But Iâm still following the route that the SUV took, so far itâs still in sight of traffic cams.â
âSo you were just stalling for time?â Jenny tried to clarify.
âWe canât let them go,â Beau said.
âAre you sure?â Jenny said hesitantly. âWe donât want to put Y/N inââ
âYou donât get it.â Beau shook his head. âThis guyâs MO, his track recordâŚheâs lying. Heâs not gonna let her live. We need to find them.â
âŚ
The kidnappers ignored you for a while after the phone call, busying themselves with packing the meager belongings they had into the back of a truck.
âWhat about her?â Ski Mask asked, nodding his head at you. âWe gonna leave her here for her dad?â
âLet her live?â Scar Man chuckled. âWhatâs the fun in that?â
âŚ
âIâve got it!â
Beau jumped out of his seat at Popâs outburst.
âWhere are they?â He demanded, leaning over Popâs chair to look at his screen.
âWell, I donât have an exact location, but they turned down this road.â Pop ran his finger along the map open on one side of his screen, while the other side showed the black SUV turning down a dirt road. âAnd thatâs where the cameras stop, they donât go down side roads.â
âWhatâs over there?â
âNot much.â Pop shrugged. âA couple of warehouses.â
âPerfect, letâs go. Hoyt, youâre with me.â
âŚ
Knowing that someone plans to kill you is an odd thing. You watch every move they make, no matter how innocent, waiting to see if heâs going to strike. Is he reaching for a knife, or his phone? Is he grabbing his bag, or the gun next to it? You never knew which breath would be your last, which thought would be the last one youâd ever think.
You wondered if your dad would ever find you. You werenât sure if you wanted him to or not. Seeing your body would kill him, but never getting closure could, too.
You shook the thought away. You definitely didnât want that to be your last. Youâd never thought about it before; what you wanted to be thinking about when you died.
âI think thatâs it.â
You were snapped out of your reverie when Ski Mask spoke.
âGreat. Now for the fun part.â Scar Man picked up a curved knife from a metal table as he spoke.
You started to struggle against your ropes despite the pain of your raw, bleeding wrists.
âNo.â You began to cry as though you were already dead, and you were mourning yourself. âPlease, please donât do this.â Perhaps you were crying because you knew it was futile; there was no sympathy or mercy in this man, you could see it in his eyes. You couldnât bring yourself to continue to beg, too afraid to even speak.
Youâd never thought about what you wanted your last thought to be. Even so, the memory came to you instantly; the perfect one.
You were little, maybe six or seven. Your parents were together and in love, and your father hadnât been broken by grief. The three of you were painting your room, because youâd finally chosen a favorite color to paint over the white that had been there since you were a baby.
You tried to help, but your parents just ended up painting over the mess you made. Your mom was working on painting one wall, while your dad was making his own version of an enchanted forest on another. Heâd already done several mushrooms, and now he was working on a fairy.
âWhat is that, a flying toad?â Your mom asked with a laugh.
âItâs the fairy princess!â Beau said, staring at her open-mouthed in mock offense.
âIt looks like a toad.â
You giggled at your motherâs words, and Beau snatched you into his arms.
âOh, you think thatâs funny?â You squealed and squirmed in his arms as he started to tickle you. âYou think itâs funny?â
âStohop!â You giggled, and after a moment Beau stopped, but he kept you in his arms.
âWhat do you think, huh?â
âI like the fairy princess,â you insisted.
âSee?â Beau grinned.
âThat doesnât count,â your mother countered. âShe likes you better.â
âAnd she understands a masterpiece when she sees it,â Beau said. âIsnât that right, Y/N?
âY/N?
âY/N!â
Your daydream vanished as the very voice youâd been thinking about echoed across the warehouse.
âDad!â You were still crying, now from relief. Your father was running across the room, gun in hand.
âGet away from her!â Beau aimed the gun at Scar Man, who had the knife clutched in his fist. âDrop the knife!â
Scar Man, psycho eyes wide and enraged, lunged for you, the knife raised.
Two shots rang out, and Scar Man staggered back before slumping to the ground.
Ski Mask lifted his hands in surrender, and Hoyt went over to arrest him.
Beau wasted no time in putting his gun away and running to you.
âDad.â
âIâve got you.â Beau offered you a strained smile as he got to work on the ropes binding you. You didnât realize how much you were leaning against the restraints until they were gone, and you all but fell out of your chair.
Beau held you up, letting you fall against him and bury your face against his shoulder.
âIâve got you, Iâve got you,â he repeated again and again. âYouâre safe, Iâm here.â
You clung to him despite the way his jacket scratched at the raw part of your wrists. Your body shook with sobs, and Beau held you tightly, rubbing your back and letting you cry against him.
âHey,â his grip slackened as he pulled back enough to look at you. His hands framed your face, and the cool texture of his hands eased the pain of your bruises. His thumb brushed feather-light against the cut on your cheek, so gentle that you didnât even flinch. âCâmon, letâs get you out of here.â
Beau kept a hand on you the whole way to the car, unwilling to let you go for even a second.
âCan we go home?â You asked, clinging to your dadâs arm.
âWeâve gotta go to the hospital first,â Beau sighed.
âIâm fine,â you insisted. âI wanna go home.â
Beau stared at you for a long moment. Proper procedure told him to take you to the hospital, then the station for some questions.
But his fatherly instincts were telling him to take his baby girl home and do whatever she needed to feel safe.
The latter won out.
âŚ
By the time Beau reached his place, his phone had been blowing up with texts and calls, probably from Hoyt and Pop, but he ignored them other than a quick text to both telling them he was ok and headed home.
The texts continued after that, but Beau turned his phone off.
âDo you want to go to your mom?â He asked gently, not quite sure what youâd meant by âhomeâ.
You didnât hesitate.
âNo. Your place.â
He got you to his trailer in record time, and he led you inside and to the couch. Your eyes never left him as he went to get your favorite blanket and drape it around your shoulders.
âIâm gonna get you some ice for those bruises, ok?â Beau didnât give you a chance to respond as he went to get the ice. He returned a moment later, and you put the ice pack up against one of the worse bruises on your face. âDo you want me to make you some food?â He asked.
You shook your head, reaching your free hand out to him without speaking.
Beau got the message. He sat down next to you on the couch and wrapped you into his arms, the soft fluff of the blanket around you brushing against his arms, and your hair tickling his chin as he tucked your head under it.
âIâve got you,â he promised. âNo oneâs ever gonna hurt you again.â
âDonât go,â you pleaded.
âHey, Iâm not going anywhere.â Beau lifted a hand to the back of your head. He found himself rocking you back and forth slowly, and the ghost of a smile lifted his lips when he heard your gentle, relaxed breathing for the first time since youâd been taken.
Time stopped when he was like this, with you. He mightâve been holding you for five minutes or five hours, it didnât matter to him. He was pretty sure you fell asleep at some point, but he didnât move, determined to never let you go again.

The Fix - Epilogue
Summary: Everyone has a past, but yours seemed to haunt you. You've tried to move forward with a normal life, but the day comes when that's not possible anymore. When Sheriff Beau Arlen enters your life, you're certain he is going to judge you just like everyone else in town does. But something about Beau is different.
Word Count: ~2k
Warnings: Slight language, nothing serious. Fluff!
âMama! Emily said sheâd help me build a snowman. Can I go?â Bailey tugged on her mittens and her winter hat, knowing your instructions before braving the bitter air.Â
A small laugh tumbled through your lips as you nodded. âHold on, let me zip you up,â you set down your mug of tea and knelt in front of her before you grasped the metal zipper. âYou remember the rules?â You prompted her.Â
âStay close where you can see,â she recited with a proud grin.Â
âGood,â you kissed her cheek and nodded towards the door with approval. She bolted past you with a quick, âThanks, Mama!â over her shoulder.Â
You pulled yourself back to your feet and reached for your own winter coat. After you were prepared for the bitter December wind, you grabbed your mug and headed out to the porch to greet Beau as he walked up the path.Â
He ruffled Baileyâs hat a bit as she hurried past, but stopped her to straighten it out so it would cover her ears.Â
âHey, handsome,â you chimed from the front door. His gaze found yours and a wide smile pulled across his lips.Â
âHiya, darlinâ,â he crooned.Â
It had been two months since Jackson had been arrested and made a deal with the FBI. He was still in FBI custody, but that hadnât brought you much peace.Â
Beau had gone out immediately and purchased trail cameras for every corner of your home, and out on the property as well. He had also insisted you practice firearm training (though you had to admit, it was hard at first but you didnât mind the closeness to Beau that came along with it).Â
Beau ended up crashing at your house nine times out of ten. He said it was safer, and he wouldnât sleep well if he wasnât there. You thought back to the first night Beau ended up in your bed.Â
âItâs late, darlinâ,â Beau had glanced at the watch on his wrist as he stifled a yawn. His eyes were hazy and reddened.Â
Your teeth found the inside of your bottom lip as you processed the thoughts that drifted through your brain. âI know, I just like talking to you.â
A chuckle fell from his lips. âI like talkinâ to you, too. But we both need sleep.â He had stood and started to gather the pillows and blankets you had grabbed for his make-shift bed on your sofa.Â
âYou canât possibly get good sleep out here on the couch,â you toyed with the ideaâit was like putting out a bone and seeing if he would take it. His eyes landed on you and he watched you closely.Â
âDo you have a guest bedroom you havenât told me about?â Damn, he was really going to make you work for it. Heat had risen in your cheeks and you stumbled over some âuh'sâ and there was an âumâ in there, somewhere. Beau chuckled again. âAre you askinâ me to sleep in your bed, darlinâ?â The gruffness of his voice made your entire body shiver.Â
After a brief pause, your voice was almost a whisper. âWould you want to sleep in my bed, Beau?â
A smile pulled at the corners of his lips. âIâd like that, if youâd like that, too,â his tone matched yours.Â
âWhatâre you thinkinâ about, darlinâ?â Beauâs drawl interrupted your memories as you both sat in rocking chairs watching your daughters build a snowman. Your eyes found his and you smiled.Â
âJust how weâve gotten here. If you had told me this would be my life two months ago, I wouldnât have believed you,â the cold air stung your eyes as tears had formed. With a glove covered hand, you quickly reached up to push them away.Â
Beau had somehow gotten used to your emotions, but he still watched you carefully. âAre you happy? With life, and how things are, I mean?â He asked carefully.Â
âBeau Arlen, you should absolutely know the answer to that,â you reached out to brush the side of his face. âI have truly never been happier.â You paused as he reached out to hold your hand in his. âAre you happy? I know we were kinda thrown into this world weâre living inâŚitâs not necessarily something you signed up for.â
He leaned towards you and you felt his lips against yours. âDarlinâ,â he breathed. âI would sign up for this life with you and Bailey every day over again.â You kissed him once more. Beau pulled back for a moment and shuffled through his coat pocket as you heard the buzz from his vibrating cell phone. âOne sec, sweetheart.â He pushed the phone to his ear as he answered. âSheriff Arlen,â he saidâthe sweetness to his tone dissipated.Â
In the two months you had been with Beau, you found it hard to ignore his work calls. Most of the time he got a call to assist with a car accident, or maybe a wellness check on an elderly neighbor. But you could never be certainâyou always held your breath in case he got the call; the one where you would find out that Jackson was being released.
Beau stood from his spot on the rocking chair and began to pace, that was your first sign that this was a more serious call. And then his eyes landed on you. When he realized you were studying him, he looked away almost instantly. This call was most certainly about youâor about Jackson, rather.
âAlright, thatâs good,â he spoke carefully as he paced. âWhatâs that mean forâŚfor uh, for the victims?â His eyes wanted to look at you but he couldnât just yet. You tried to stay calmly seated on the rocking chair, but no longer could. You stood to your feet and glanced back at Emily and Bailey, as if looking away for a second would bring harm to one of them. After a much longer pause than you thought necessary, Beauâs feet stopped pacing and he stood with his back to you. âYouâre kiddinâ me,â he breathed. You couldnât tell yet if that was good or badâyou assumed bad. âWell, damn.â His breath fogged around him and there was a slight chuckle to his words and tone. A chuckle? You wanted to scream out and ask him what that meant, but you knew you had to be calm.
He turned back to look at you again, this time a wide smile on his lips. âYa know what, Matt Donahue?â Beauâs grin practically touched his ears, and now you had confirmation this call was about your case, as Matt was the FBI agent working it. âYouâre not a son-of-a-bitch after allâŚâ he trailed off with a laugh as he stepped towards you. The phone was still pressed to his ear as he listened. âYeah, yeah, I hope I never see you again, too.â He laughed. âBut hey, thanksâŚthanks a lot.â
He pulled the phone away and ended the call.
âMy heart feels like itâs about to explode, please tell me whatâs happening,â you breathed as Beau gripped your hands in his just as he stood before you.
âThey caught the last drug boss, heâs in the FBIâs custody as we speak,â Beau started. You wanted to urge him to continue.
âSo Jackson gets released?â Your heart had already sunk down the confines of your rib cage and into the pit of your stomach; you couldnât understand how Beau was excited about this.
Beau shook his head from side to side, a gleam of happiness in his eyes. âWhen the FBI made this deal with Jackson, they had only charged him with kidnapping, felony gun possession and drug trafficking. They didnât charge him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.â He began to explain. You werenât following. âSo the deal was only good for the charges he faced at the time. And just now, the DA charged him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. He canât make a deal on that.âÂ
Beau waited a minute for it to set in. âSoâŚheâs not getting released?â The words were soft but he heard them.
âHeâs not gettinâ released,â Beau confirmed with a smile. You blinked as you processed. âItâs a little bit of a shady practice, but for once, I donât feel bad about it. Weâll get to prosecute him here in Big Sky. We canât bring up anything he made a deal on, but attempted on a LEO is a big deal. Dependinâ on if they can charge him with first or second, weâre lookinâ at a minimum of thirty years in prison, sweetheart.â
It felt like you might fall over as your knees weakened. Beau seemed to recognize that as he led you back to the rocking chair. After blinking a few more times, your gaze found Emily and Bailey laughing in the snow as they tied a scarf just below their snowmanâs head. The feeling of Beauâs calloused fingertips on your cheek brought you back into the moment.
âHey,â he breathed with a smile, and for a second, you thought you saw his eyes glaze over. âHeâs never gonna hurt you again. Heâs never gonna be near Bailey again. This seals it.â
You finally managed to speak. âI, uh, I guess you can go home now.â You laughed half-heartedly as you sniffledâpartially from the cold but mostly from the emotion that had overcome you at that point.
âIâd really like to be here, with you and Bailey. If thatâs alright with youâŚâ his voice warmed your chest as he spoke, but all you could muster was a nod to refrain from sobbing.
Beau pulled you tightly to his chest and you held on as if your life depended on it; and in that moment, it felt like it did.
That night, after Bailey had gone to bed, Beau had turned on the radio to an old FM station that played smooth jazz and alternative rock, two sounds that neither of you hardly ever listened to. But when the soft piano started to play, he held his hand out for you to take.
You couldnât help but laughâwhile you hadnât shared the reason for your excitement with Bailey or Emily, the two of you had relished in the feeling together. You could see it in the way you looked at each other all night over dinner, or the way Beau had built a pillow fort with Bailey after Emily headed out to meet a friend at the movie theater, and in the way he had pulled you to him before you put Bailey to bed and kissed you like everything was right in the world.
And now you felt it in the way his left hand held your right, and his other hand found the small of your back. Your head moved to his shoulder and found comfort in the crook of his neck as the two of you slow-danced in the middle of your kitchen to the soft sounds you finally recognized as Coldplay.
âColdplay? Really?â You practically snorted as you pulled your head from his shoulder.
âShh,â he hushed you playfully. âItâs a good song, alright?â
âMr. Arlen, I didnât think you listened to anything that didnât have a banjo in the backgroundâor foreground, for that matter,â you laughed. You had done a lot of that this eveningâlaugh, that is.Â
âAlright, alright,â he grumbled. âYou gonna let me spin you around this kitchen? I can always put somethinâ with a banjo onâŚâ he threatened.
âNo, no,â you quickly hushed with a giggle. âIâll shut upâŚâ
He returned his focus to spinning you around the kitchen, just as promised. Every time he pulled you back to his chest, his lips left a gentle kiss on your hairline.
You couldnât help but watch him as you listened to the lyrics. Before you could be too overcome with emotion, your lips found his. When you had met Beau Arlen, you were two partially broken people. And somehow, somewayâyou had managed to put yourselves back together, and you were grateful for this new beginning.
Lights will guide you home And ignite your bones And I will try to fix you.
AHH, okay - so - I apologize. I realize it is not Wednesday, lol. I really, really struggled with this epilogue. I actually ended up wiping the entire thing on Wednesday and re-writing it because I just wasn't happy with it. I hope this wraps everything up nicely with a pretty bow for you.
I really struggled with the whole "let's be sneaky and screw Jackson on a deal" thing, because honesty and integrity are really important to me. But then I remembered how shitty of a human Jackson is (as a reminder: he beat his wife on the regular, he was trafficking drugs that kill people every day, he shot MO [one of the most beloved deputies with a kind heart and soul], kidnapped his kid, held Beau and his ex-wife at gun point, etc.) and decided to run with it. I hope you don't hate it?
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all of you for reading, reblogging, liking and commenting on this series. It has really brought me so much joy to read what you all think and over the last month or so. While this is the end of the series, I hope to come back with some one shots associated with these characters in the future.
And with that, this series is COMPLETE!

You woke up groaning to the sound of your alarm. 6am on the dot. For as long as you could remember youâve never been a morning person; but that quickly changed once you had Amelia â your daughter who, despite being a pain in your side sometimes and thinks sheâs attached to your hip, is honestly one of the best things thatâs ever happened to you.
Once you had her, you had to become a morning person much to your dismay. In the beginning it was hard as prior to having her you never got up before 9am as you worked afternoon shifts â there was simply no reason to get up at 6 or 7am. But once the two of you developed a routine it became easier; the two of you working as teammates.
But today, for some reason, it felt even harder for you to get up. You felt drained, your eyes were still heavy, all you wanted more than anything was to get back to sleep. Your alarm went off again and you tried your hardest not to throw your phone across the room. With another groan, you shut off your alarm and got out of bed slowly, the hardwood flooring of your apartment felt cold against your feet. As soon as your feet touched the wood there was a knock on the door. Another groan left your lips; Amelia jumped out of bed and started running down the hall.
âDonât worry mommy I got the door!â She beamed, her little feet smacking against the wood.
âMel, let mom get the door okay?â You said, rushing out your bedroom door.
âBut what if itâs ââ
âItâs not him Sweetheart. He doesnât come over this early you know that.â You said, and her face dropped. âDonât be sad Sweetie. I know you want to see him, I want to too. But weâre probably not going to see him until later when heâs done with work.â
âAt the Sheriffs office!â Amelia said, happy with herself that she remembered.
âYes, at the Sheriffs office.â You smiled, slightly praising her.
Another knock came at the door and there was a part of you that was getting a little mad at the persistentness. It was 6 in the morning â who could possibly be coming at this hour? âSpecial delivery!â You knew that voice from anywhere, and it a matter of seconds that annoyance you had melted away.
Amelia looked at you, hands on her hips. âTold you it was your boyfriend!â She said, sticking her tongue out at you. You stuck your tongue out at her back, and she couldnât help but giggle. Once opening the door you didnât even have a chance to greet your boyfriend before Amelia was running past you to get to him. âBeau!â She called, and without warning jumped into his arms.
Not fully prepared for her to do that, the bag of what you assumed to be food almost fell out of his hands as he wrapped his arms around her, making sure she didnât fall out of his arms. âHey Kiddo,â he said, his voice in a similar joyful tone as hers was in. âHow we doinâ this morninâ?â He asked, his accent a little bit more prominent than usual.
Amelia looked at him, her arms around his neck. âGood now that youâre here!â She beamed â you couldnât help but agree with her answer.
Beau looked at you and smiled, and you couldnât help but look at the two of them; happy that he had taken an instant liking to Amelia (and vice versa). âHow about you darlinâ?â
âYou know Iâm always happy to see you.â You grinned.
âYou better be. Because I come bearing gifts.â He stated holding up a white paper bag.
âIf that gift is food you are more than welcome to come inside.â You teased. âLet me take that since youâre too busy with your favorite.â You said, gently tickling your daughter in her side as she wriggled.
âMom! Stop!â She laughed.
âOkay, okay.â You said kissing her on the cheek. âAnd one for you,â you said as you gave him a quick peck.
âGross!â Amelia said.

âSo, what brings you here so early? You never come this early.â You said, taking a sip of your orange juice.
âI uh, I took the day off actually.â He said, and you couldnât help but look at him with disbelief.
âYou? You took the day off?â You asked. âYou never do that.â
âYeah well, first time for everything.â He said. âJenny insisted.â
âAh.â Was all you said before taking a giant bite out of your breakfast wrap.
âI like her. Sheâs always so nice to me. And her hair is really pretty.â Amelia chimed in, mouth full of waffles. âMommy when are you going to hang out with her again?â
âProbably this weekend Sweetheart. But we have to see, you know how busy she can be.â You stated; Ameliaâs face dropped. âBut Iâm sure as soon as I mention you sheâll try and rush over.â You winked, causing her to smile. âYou know how much she adores you.â
âOh she sure does.â Beau let out a small chuckle. âI was thinking, you two donât have any plans today right? Well, besides school for this one.â
âNot that I can think of. Why? What did you have in mind?â You asked curious.
âI was thinking, if you two are up for it, we could find a nice empty field somewhere, take some chairs, make some food, make a fire, watch the night sky.â He said, his voice sounding a tad nervous. It almost sounded more nervous than it did when he initially asked you out on your first date a few months ago.
âSo camping without the camping?â You clarified.
âEssentially yes.â He said. âThink of it as aâŚfamily date night.â
âFamily date night?â You smiled, loving the sound of that.
âThat sounds like fun!â Amelia almost yelled. The only reason it didnât come out as a yell was because her mouth was still full of waffles.
âWhat she said.â You said pointing to Amelia.

âOkay mommy how do I look?â Your daughter asked as she did a small spin to showcase her outfit. Like usual, she decided that she wanted to wear something sparkly for the occasion as she believed wearing something with sparkles was the epitome of fashion â reasons why she somehow convinced you to wear something sparkly on your first date with Beau, thankfully he found it cute.
âAs cute as always Sweetie.â You said. âHow about me?â You too did a similar type of spin as her as you showcased your outfit. It wasnât sparkling (much to your daughters dismay), but you thought it matched her outfit well.
âYou look beautiful mommy!â She said, side hugging you.
âThanks Bean.â You said kissing her on the top of the head. âNow, I need you to make me a promise tonight okay?â You began as you kneeled in front of her, taking her hands in yours.
âNo promises but I can try.â She grinned â she was becoming more and more like you each day.
You let out a small laugh. âI appreciate the honesty.â You smiled. âBut, itâs gonna be a little chilly tonight so I need you to keep the jacket on okay?â
âBut wonât the fire keep us warm?â She asked.
âYes, but, we still need to keep our jackets on. You know why? Because itâll keep us even extra warm.â You smiled.
âOkay.â Amelia said, a little disappointed.
âCan we shake on it?â You asked, now holding out your hand for her to shake.
âItâs a promise.â The two of you said in unison as you shook hands.

The drive to the field went like a blur but it was filled with song after song of you and Amelia singing to the radio as Beau chimed in during random verses. And like Amelia fashion, she found it the funniest thing whenever Beau would chime in, as he wouldnât be as serious about getting the lyrics right like you and her tried to do.
As soon as Beau parked, Amelia went straight to the door handle trying to open the door. âOpen the door! Open the door!â Her patience running thin.
âAlright alright. Donât worry itâs not a race.â Beau said, his voice calm.
âSorry sorry. Iâm just excited.â Amelia said as she removed her hand from the door handle.
As you were about to speak to reassure her that she didnât need to apologize Beau did it for you. âNo need to apologize Bean. Iâm glad youâre excited.â He leaned in. âWanna know a secret?â
âYes.â She leaned in too, whispering.
âIâm excited too.â He smiled, whispering back. âAlright, Iâll open the door in five. Want to give me a countdown?â
Amelia kicked her feet with excitement. âYes! OneâŚtwoâŚthreeâŚfourâŚfive!â As soon as your daughter said five, Beau unlocked the doors and Amelia â without hesitation, opened the door and jumped out of the car.
As you watched her get out of the car and run into the empty field you pulled into, you couldnât help but watch her as she ran around in circles occupying herself. Turning to Beau you smiled. âThanks for this.â You said, placing your hand on his cheek.
âNo need to thank me. I wanted to do this.â He reassured you, placing his hand on your thigh.
âI know butâŚI really do mean it. I really appreciate you doing this for AmeliaâŚfor me.â
âIâd do anything for both of you. You know that.â He gave your thigh a squeeze.
âI love you.â You said, slightly whispering.
âLove you too.â He said, leaning in and kissing you. âCome on, letâs go get her before she burns the field down.â
You grinned. âYou know she would if she could.â
âWell, I donât plan on making any arrests tonight. WellâŚnot until later tonight.â He winked. âAnd withâŚpermission of course maâam.â
âPermission granted.â You winked back, the two of you kissing again.

âOkay so I brought your second favorite thing besides waffles.â Beau began as he started reaching into a bag next to him. As he grabbed the bag he pointed at Amelia. âNo peaking.â
âNo peaking!â She repeated back shutting her eyes and placing her hands over them.
âAre you peaking?â He asked her and then looked over at you.
âShe keeps her word.â You said rubbing your hands together over the fire.
âAlright. I trust you.â He said. âQuick, how many fingers am I holding up?â He asked, not even putting any of his fingers up.
âBeau!â Amelia couldnât help but let out the biggest giggle. It was the type of giggle you hadnât heard her have in such a long time â and that was something that genuinely made you smile.
âAlright alright.â He said. âOpen your eyes.â As her eyes opened he held the bag of marshmallows in his hand and her eyes light up like Christmas tree lights.
âThank you thank you thank you!â She exclaimed getting up from her chair and running toward Beau with her hands out. Before she asked her next question she looked over at you, slight puppy dog eyes. âMommy can I have one now?â
You couldnât help but smile. âAsk Beau Sweetheart.â
She turned to him, her hands still out. âMay I have a marshmallow please?â
âWell, you did say please.â He said opening the bag. âJust one, because weâre going to make smores in a few.â He placed a marshmallow in her hand, her face continued to beam with joy.
âThank you!â She said placing the entire marshmallow in her mouth.
âYou want one?â He asked, a marshmallow between his pointer finger and thumb looking at you.
âSure. What will it cost me?â You asked, getting up from your own chair and walking toward him.
âHmmm,â he was deep in thought. âKiss me?â
âI can do that.â You leaned down, your hands on either side of his face as you kissed him.
âEwwww.â You heard Amelia say from a few feet away. âAdults are gross.â She said, scrunching her face in disgust.
The two of you pulled away and you took the marshmallow from his hands. âSorry Mel, weâll be more careful.â Beau said, giving you a look of amusement.

As the night went on, things started to wind down and it was finally getting to one of your favorite parts of the night: looking up at the night sky. Although it was something the three of you were doing a majority of the night between the laughing, story telling, and food eating, this was the first time the three of you werenât doing anything but looking up at the sky.
âYou know, Iâve lived here all my life and I donât think Iâll ever get tired of looking at the sky.â You said, Beauâs arm around you now as Amelia made herself comfortable lying on a combination of not only your lap but Beauâs.
âIt really is beautiful,â he agreed. âYou know, as much as I love Texas, Iâll give Montana this, it does have some beautiful views.â He said looking at you as he said it.
You felt yourself blush at his compliment. âThe views have definitely gotten better since you came to town.â
âAre you two going to kiss now?â Amelia said, looking up at the both of you.
âWe could but, you do think itâs gross.â Beau commented.
âIâll allow it.â Amelia said.
Beau and you exchanged looks. âYou sure Bean?â You asked.
âIâm sure mommy. Iâll even close my eyes.â She said covering her eyes with her hands. âWhenever youâre ready.â
You and Beau let out small laughs. âWith the permission of Amelia, can I kiss you darlinâ?â He asked slightly leaning in.
âYes you may.â You said, leaning in as well.
âAre you two kissing?â Amelia asked her eyes still closed. âCause it doesnât sound like it.â
Beau and you looked at Amelia, both of you holding back a laugh. âCome âere.â You said, fully leaning in now and kissing him.

Polaris â Chapter 1
Series Summary: When Beau Arlen moved to Montana, he left behind a past he wasnât proud of. But when a series of murders requires the FBIâs help, Sheriff Arlenâs ghosts come back to haunt him one by one. With a wrong turn waiting at every crossroads, itâs hard to make the right choices and find his way back home â back to you.
Pairing: Beau Arlen x FBI Agent!Reader
Warnings: 18+, smut, fluff, angst, hints to a slight drinking problem, mentions of murder, serial killers, divorce & death, set after & before the events of season 3
Word Count: 5.1k
A/N: Welcome to another series, loves! I'm so excited to share this one! đ¤ You may read the Dirty Drabble that inspired it first, but there's references to the events of it throughout. Enjoy, babes! đ
Huge special thanks to @blackcherrywhiskey, @deans-spinster-witch, @roseblue373 & @ladysparkles78 đ for kicking my ass to write a whole series from that little one shot. I know y'all wanted me to bring the smut, and while I certainly did that, I couldn't resist bringing the angst. And well, once that angsty stone started to roll, it couldn't be stopped and downhill it all went... đ I usually do slow burns, so starting off hot and going in reverse for once was such a fun change!

Chapter 1: Caught Up In A Moment
September 2023
One. Two. Three.
At the third knock, your bare feet sprinted to the motel room door from the bathroom, a towel still in hand as you dried your damp hair.
âComing!â you called out and twisted the knob, opening the door with a keen smile.
Beau stood in front of you in all his glory â washed jeans Sherpa jacket, a button-up in your favorite color, and some tight denim clad his muscular bow legs. That man always effortlessly took your breath away when he really shouldnât.
A cocked brow graced his features as he eyed you from head to toe, a smile twitching on his plump, kissable lips underneath the scruffy beard. âYou open the door always like this, darlinâ?â
The familiar drawl made your knees weak. Back home, the accent was nothing special, but his deep timbre of a voice that made your bones tremble surely was. The combination of the two was heaven-sent and hell-bent.
âI just got out of the shower.â You shrugged innocently, your golden halo swinging with your sinful hips.
As you rubbed the rest of your hair dry, your black silk robe swayed with the movement of your legs before you leisurely discarded the used towel on your bed and waited for the handsome sheriff to follow you inside.
âBrought you something,â Beau said and wiggled a thick folder over his head as he walked in, closing the door behind him with a kick of his boot. He ceremoniously slapped the file on the small desk in your room.
Your lips curved into a sly grin. âOh? Almost feels like my birthday, Mr. President.â
Beau let out a hearty laugh, showing off the endearing crinkles around his shimmering green eyes. âI think youâve got something confused there, darlinâ. It was Kennedyâs birthday.â
âHuh, so Iâm the president and youâre my Marilyn?â you teased.
âOh, Iâll happily be your Marilyn,â he said with a cheeky smile.
As your fingers eagerly leafed through the file, you could feel Beauâs breath fanning against your neck as he came to stand behind you, shiny leather boots plodding on sordid motel carpet. The hair on your skin saluted him as goosebumps rose.
You could smell his cologne as it tingled your nose, bergamot and cedar mixed with a hint of vanilla flooding your senses and washing a sea of memories into your mind. Memories you wished were lost and never found.
Postponing the deep dive to tomorrow, your eyes only skimmed over the contents of the folder. But just as you suspected, the victimology and modus operandi were all too familiar. Youâd seen this before, and it wasnât good.
Youâd be here for a while.
âAnd?â Beauâs voice broke you from your thoughts before you felt his fingertips softly brushing the flesh on your hips. An electric shudder ran down your spine at his touch, your mind on the fritz.
âDefinitely my jurisdiction,â you replied and closed the file.
Moaning with pleasure, you felt his lips on your neck, kissing a pathway down to your shoulder. One of your hands wandered up and tangled in his thick, luscious locks, grabbed and tugged until he groaned against the shell of your ear. You still managed to blab about the case with strained concentration.
âThereâs been similar cases in, uhm⌠Texas⌠Utah⌠Colorado⌠Wyoming⌠and now here.â
âHmm,â Beau hummed, not letting himself be disturbed. The vibrations of his voice thrummed against the column of your throat.
Your cunt clenched; you could feel the rising wetness between your legs and the growing bulge against your ass.
A large hand brushed stealthily across your stomach and snaked past the silk fabric to grab a generous breast, squeezing the tender flesh and tweaking the nipple between his thumb and a finger. His hardening cock pressed at the crack between your buttcheeks, your arousal dripping down your thighs.
A second palm wandered to your front but was bound southward this time. His digits pried apart your folds, two of them running through your slick with a growl in your ear before slipping inside your pussy. A whimper left your lips as you braced your palms on the surface in front of you for support, your legs threatening to buckle under the pressure.
But Beau wasnât going to let you fall, his grip like a vice around you as he held you flush against his chest, hot breath tickling your earlobe and beard burning your cheek. You moaned his name with a few expletives as he thrust his fingers in and out of your soaked channel.
âFuck, youâre so goddamn wet. Want you to come for me,â he husked into your ear and pushed his erection even more against your ass. Your pussy clenched around him. âYeah, thatâs it. Squeeze those fingers like youâll squeeze my cock⌠Itâs been too fucking long. Wanna finally fill you, darlinâ.â
âGod, yes,â you whined in agreement as the coil in your belly tightened with each plunge into your heat.
He curled his knuckles and expertly thumbed your clit, making you cry out. His strokes became harder, your breathing grew labored. Your body quaked with each thrust, cunt throbbing around his fingers.
âFuck,â you moaned as the heel of his palm rubbed your clit, igniting the fuse to the fireworks in your belly. Your explosion could be seen in the sky from miles away without binoculars.
âI gotcha,â Beau whispered as a strong arm wrapped around your ribcage, your pussy pulsing with his fingers deep inside you. Brushing your damp hair to one side of your neck, his teeth sunk into your shoulder as you steadied in his embrace.
âYouâd think as the sheriff, youâd care a little more that a serial killer is running around and murdering citizens of your county,â you teased breathlessly.
âOh, Iâm not worried,â Beau said simply, removing his wet fingers from your drenched cunt.
You lifted an eyebrow at him and bit down on your lower lip. âNo?â
âNope, not since youâre here,â Beau quipped and kissed your shoulder blade. âI know you wonât rest till you got that bastard all nicely cuffed up.â
You huffed a laugh. âWow, youâve got a lot of confidence in me, huh?â
âYou betcha. Got nothinâ to do with confidence, either. I just know you, darlinâ,â Beau stated with a cocksure grin and palmed one cheek of your ass as he rutted against you.
âBeau, fuck⌠I still have to lock the folder into the safe,â you managed to say, your mind in a haze of desire as your pussy whined in starving anticipation.
âCâmon, whoâs gonna steal it, huh?â he muttered against your skin. âWould be a damn fool to break into a room with a sheriff and a federal agent.â
âYou can never be too careful,â you argued lightly.
âSays the woman who canât lock a damn door,â Beau sassed with a chuckle and threw you a raised look as he spun you in his embrace.
You laughed, your cheeks blushing when you were reminded of your little unfortunate adventure at lunch. Your arms draped around his neck as his hands wandered to your lower back, the two of you gently swaying from side to side.
âIâm sorry, okay? I told you. I thought it was locked.â
âUh-huh.â Beau chuckled, shaking his head. âYouâd think with all those criminals running around, youâd know better.â
âLook, the Academy doesnât technically teach us how to lock doors, just how to kick âem in, alright?â you retorted. He pecked the tip of your nose, flashing you a grin. âIs your deputy, okay? I felt bad. He looked traumatized. You know, he couldnât look me in the eye when I left.â
âYeah, I bet.â Beau laughed and rubbed his bearded chin before his palm moved back to its original place on the small of your back. âAs soon as his shift was over, he bolted straight outta there. But Papa Smurf will be fine. Donât worry about it,â he assured you with a warm smile that could melt several hearts. It sure did yours. âYou do know, though, Iâll get teased for this, right?â
âI know.â You laughed and buried your face in his chest upon Beauâs playful glare. He pursed his lips as his cheeks flushed with color before placing a kiss on your crown. âIâm sorry. Maybe no one knows?â
âY/N, this ainât Houston. This is a small town. Everyone knows by now,â Beau reminded you with a small laugh.
Guiltily, you looked up at him and bit your lower lip, one corner of your mouth tugging upwards into a smirk. âIâll make it up to you?â
âOh?â
On tiptoes, you then nuzzled your nose against his, hands traveling from his neck to his cheeks as you tenderly caressed his beard and felt his breathing quicken. Your gazes locked. You got lost in pine green.
His fingers played with a wet strand of your hair, a smile fluttering on his mouth as he tucked it back behind your ear. His palm wandered to the back of your head and pulled you to his lips. The first kiss was tender and hesitant, like a kid testing the temperature of the ocean with its big toe before fully diving inside and getting carried away by the waves.
The kiss grew needier and rougher as he pushed you back until you hit the edge of the small desk in your room. Effortlessly, strong arms lifted you on the surface, your bare buttcheeks feeling the worn wood underneath. It was too easy for you two to fall back into an old rhythm.
âThis is very handy, by the way,â Beau said with a smirk as his fingers opened the loosely tied bow of your robe and revealed your naked body underneath.
âThought youâd appreciate it,â you purred as he slid the silky material off your shoulders, letting it billow around your waist.
âOh, I do, darlinâ,â he rasped, his voice loaded with lust, nibbling along your jaw. His mouth wandered down to your throat, sucking the skin purple and blue before he claimed your first breast, his tongue rolling over your nipple until it peaked.
âFuck, baby,â you whimpered breathily, your head lolling back as he worshipped your body, running a river of kisses from your collarbone to the end of your ribcage. âNeed you inside me, please.â
It had been so long, you had almost forgotten how good he was at making you come undone. Or better said, you had tried to forget it on purpose.
âYou donât know what youâre doing to me,â Beau growled huskily in your ear.
Cupping his cheeks, you needily brought him back to your lips, your breathing ragged between a dance of tongues. His kisses were addictive; one taste and you were hooked. Consumption became an obsession.
Your hands climbed down his body, unbuckled belt and unzipped jeans, palming his massively hard cock that only grew even larger in your hand. Everything was indeed bigger in fucking Texas.
While you popped every button of his maroon shirt, he slipped out of his jacket and boxers, his erection springing against his stomach. It was perfectly wide and long, dangerously able to stretch you to your fullest. Your mouth watered, the taste of him still fresh in your mind.
His shirt joined the graveyard of clothes on the floor as your legs wrapped around his waist. He positioned his head at your waiting entrance, catching your gaze as he pushed inside, sheathing his cock fully in your soaking channel.
âFuck, I missed this,â he groaned and rested his head on your shoulder as he momentarily stilled when he was at your deepest. He inhaled your scent and memorized every note like a love song. His lips bit and soothed your skin in a vicious cycle. There was no escaping him.
His harmless words caused a sting in your chest, however, cutting deeper than any knife could. You tried to ignore the dulled pain, reminding you of your oath to keep it casual this time. Your heart couldnât get dragged back into his mess. Once was enough for a lifetime.
Beau had a punch list. You had a forget-about-him list.
A part of you doubted your decision to come here. Maybe it was too soon. Maybe no amount of time would ever be enough.
Beau grabbed you tightly and carried you to the bed, your legs still wrapped around him, still connected with him inside of you. Your back touched the light sheets underneath you as his weight heavily laid on top of you, pressing him further into you until you felt him at the spot you loved so much.
âOh, fuck,â you mewled as he moved your thigh over his shoulder and thrust even deeper inside of you, filling you to the brim. It felt like he had remembered every move, everything youâd ever loved.
His hips then began to snap faster. Harder. He bottomed out each and every time. You felt him everywhere, your nerve endings catching fire as the flames inside you rose, climbed and burned down walls.
Beau could feel you were close, and he was right there with you. His hand snaked between your sweat-clad bodies and found your sensitive spot once more, his thumb rubbing circles on your clit till he pushed you over the cliff and you lost sight of the shore.
Ocean. Waves⌠Your boat capsized and got lost in them.
His lips sought out yours. His kiss was deep and passionate and lasting as his hips stilled, spilling his release inside of you with a guttural grunt. Your muscles trembled, your pussy tight and throbbing around his cock, and yet, still craving more. He was the worst drug youâd ever known.
As he slipped out of you and rolled next to you, both of you were panting heavily on the mattress. You stared at the water-stained ceiling above you, your skin glistening and sticky.
Chuckling, Beau ran a hand through his hair and whistled lowly. âMan⌠this was⌠wow,â he said and opened his arm, inviting you into his embrace.
âYeah,â you breathed in agreement, your cheeks flushed as a blissful smile haunted your features. As your head rested safely on his chest, you listened to his heartbeat, steady and reliant, and concentrated on his tender and calm caresses on your arm.
âYou know, I really did miss this,â he told you and placed another affectionate kiss on top of your head.
âMe too,â you admitted quietly and felt your heart crack a little more.
âYou know, this kinda reminds me of that night in that shabby motel in Mexico,â Beau reminisced with a soft laugh. âNot JuĂĄrez but, uhm⌠CuliacĂĄn! Minus the food poisoning.â
âSure as hell taught me to never eat tacos from some shady street truck again, no matter how hungry a stake-out makes me,â you agreed, chortling.
âYeah, pretty damn sure that wasnât beef,â Beau added. âTasted like armadillo.â
Amused, you lifted a brow. âHow do you know what armadillo tastes like?â
âTrust me, you donât wanna know,â he replied and shuddered in disgust to drive the point home.
Laughing came easy with Beau. During stormy times, his heart was your lighthouse, burning in the distance. But then, it suddenly wasnât one day, swallowed by fog and leaving you surrounded by darkness. Walking down memory lane also reminded you of that â the times when your tears could fill an ocean.
Moving out of his arms, you left the familiar and irresistible warmth and grabbed one of your navy FBI shirts from your duffel bag, pulling it over your head. Soon you found a pair of gray sweatpants as well. With each clothing item, you added another layer over your heart.
Beau watched you get dressed in silence, feeling you pull back from him. His heart twinged with anguish; his soul throbbed with longing. It was rare that he was at a loss for words, but you had a habit of leaving him speechless.
Softly, he cleared his throat to catch your attention and get you out of your head. âI meant what I said today, you know? I want you to stay, Y/N. Even when this case is over. I was serious about that.â
âI know.â You nodded, an amused snort involuntarily escaping your throat. âJust hard to believe, I guess⌠especially with Carla being available again.â
You bit your tongue and closed your eyes as the words slipped out of your mouth. You didnât mean to, but it did.
âY/Nââ
You quickly turned around and faced him, doing your best at damage control. âBeau, Iâm sorry. I didnât mean anything by it. Itâs fine.â
âItâs not fine,â Beau said and shook his head.
He grabbed his clothes from the floor, feeling his time with you quickly coming to an end. He wanted to at least be dressed in case he had to chase after you. He figured one naked public outing per day was enough for Helenaâs sheriff.
âLook, letâs just talk about it. Get it all out in the open, alright?â
âBeau, really, I get it. You donât have to explain,â you replied in an attempt to brush him off.
âYes, I do,â Beau insisted as he slid back into his jeans and buttoned his shirt, his gaze drilling into yours and pleading with you. Rising from the bed, he stalked closer to you. âA lotâs changed since the last time we saw each other. I told you. I moved here to be closer to Em.â
You rolled your eyes back and scoffed. Carding a hand through your hair, you spun on your heel in disbelief. You had to take a moment before looking at him again. âAre you kidding me right now?â
Beau sighed and conceded, hands held high in defense in case you fired another shot. âAlright, I hear ya. Maybe that wasnât entirely true⌠initially. But it certainly is now, alright? Itâs more complicated than you think. It just-⌠Thereâs so much I need to tell you⌠Carla and I⌠thatâs over. Resolved, okay? Trust me. You donât need to be worried.â
âIâm not worried!â you lied. Badly, might you add, but you didnât care if he believed you or not. You let out a deep sigh and tried a calmer approach. âLook, uhm, maybe this was a bad idea. We shouldnât haveâ⌠We-, we got caught up in a moment. I mean, thatâs our thing, right? It doesnât mean anything. Letâs just concentrate on the case and then go our separate ways again, alright?â
âDonât do this, Y/N. Donât push me to the sidelines,â Beau contended firmly. âIt does mean something. It never didnât. You know that.â
âDo I? I didnât push you anywhere, Beau. Youâre the one who left,â you snapped and unapologetically shrugged your shoulders once the words escaped. You held back the tears that brimmed in your eyes. The afterglow evaporated. Soberly, you walked to the door and nodded towards the exit. âI think you should go⌠After all, itâs what you do best.â
Beau smacked his lips, his brow creasing as he averted his green eyes and thoughtfully glanced out the window, his hands resting on his squared-off hips. You knew it was a low blow, but you couldnât stop yourself, either. It was the truth, and sometimes it hurt to hear it.
Nodding, he scratched his beard. âAlright, Iâll go, but weâre not done,â he said resolutely. Internally, you sighed. You forgot they grew quite stubborn in Texas, too. âLook, I know Iâve made mistakes. I screwed up a lot⌠especially with you. But Iâm not giving up⌠He wouldnât want me to.â
With that, he walked out the door. As it closed behind him, you exhaled a deep and long breath. Looking out the window, your eyes drifted from the parking lot and gazed up at the famous big sky above you.
You found yourself fascinated by the twinkling spots of light in the midnight blue. Pensively, you glanced down at your hand and twisted the golden band on your ring finger. Your eyes then found one of the brightest stars in the dark night sky, Polaris, hoping it would guide your sinking ship back home.
September 2021
âThis is the most boring stake-out ever,â you complained and blew a raspberry in frustration, leaning back against the metal hood of the car as the Milky Way shone brightly above you and the cicadas chirped their song in the distance.
You had parked the SUV on top of a plateau in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert somewhere in Mexico, overlooking a cartel hideout, but far enough away to not be spotted.
âYeah, I donât think theyâre coming tonight. We better check that intel again tomorrow,â Beau said with a sigh and took off his cowboy hat, laying it on the hood behind him.
âIâll talk to my CI again,â you replied and sighed as well, your eyes feeling more tired than theyâd ever been. It had been a long few months and sleeping wasnât exactly high on your priority list.
Beau nodded and ran a hand through his hair, scratching his head in impatient irritability. He then pulled out a silver flask from the inner pocket of his Sherpa jacket and took a big swig.
You raised an eyebrow at him. âWeâre still on the job, you know?â
He stared straight ahead, not daring to look at you as the crescent moon hung high above him. âYeah, so?â
âNothinâ.â You shrugged, not wanting to start a fight or upset him. âJust noticed youâve been doing that a lot lately. Since the funeral⌠Itâs not like you.â
âYeah, well, things change,â he said bitterly and took another sip.
âI worry about you,â you confessed quietly, the concern shimmering in your eyes.
At that, he finally turned his head and caught your gaze. âDonât. Youâve got enough to worry about. You donât need me on your list.â
âWell, itâs too late for that,â you said and sent him a small smile. âIn fact, all I do is worry about you. Youâre the only thing on the list, actually.â
âHmm⌠I guess itâs nice to know that at least someone cares,â he muttered and drank again.
âOh, donât gimme that! Stop with the sulking and the feeling sorry for yourself,â you chided and sat up straight, getting a better look at him as you leaned your arms on your knees. âDid you talk to her since⌠you know?â
He threw you a sideways glance, lifting a brow. âSince we signed the divorce papers? Nope,â he replied and popped the p, taking another swig.
âMaybe itâs not too late. Just talk to her,â you repeated words youâd said a thousand times by now. âThatâs all she wants, you know?â
âYeah, I know.â Beau nodded quietly, a thick swallow stuck in his throat as he stared at the desolate landscape ahead.
âYou talk to me about it. Iâm sure Carla would understand,â you added.
âI talk to you âcause I got no choice. You deserved to know how I fucked up. âSides, you were already knee-deep in this shit. No stoppinâ ya,â Beau said. His eyes found yours briefly before he averted his gaze again.
âI prefer shoulder-deep,â you joked lightheartedly. Then, the familiar heaviness returned, weighing down your chest, your heart aching. âFeels like quicksand around my throat.â
âYeah,â Beau agreed quietly, tongue swiping across his lips. âThatâs why I donât want her anywhere near this. With Carla⌠I have a choice.â
âSheâs a defense attorney. Sheâs seen some shit, you know?â you pointed out. âI mean, is it really worth losing your family over?â
âItâs more complicated than that,â Beau said stoically. He then let out a humorless laugh that you couldnât place before putting the flask to his lips again.
âOkay, enough. Gimme that,â you snapped and grabbed the silver container from him, swallowing down a big gulp. You grimaced in disgust, everything in your body shuddering at the awful taste. âDear fucking Lord! What the hell is that?â
In response, he snorted and gave you a passive twitch of his shoulders. âLittle bit of everything I could find in the motel minibar.â
âEw! Youâre pathetic,â you retorted with a crinkle of your nose and meant it partially as a joke. You had always bantered like this, but this time, he took you by your word.
âYeah, thatâs what Carla said, too,â he belittled himself.
âOkay, stop with the pity party. I canât take any more of this sad face youâve got going on there,â you remarked with a huff. It broke your own heart to see his shattered like this. You missed his sunny laugh and the endless bad jokes and the nonstop chatter. Heâd always been a good man, despite this newfound darkness of his, and deserved better.
âWell, get used to it. It ainât going anywhere,â Beau replied, much to your dismay.
âFine,â you relented and let out a sigh.
Silence fell between you two, only filled by the cicadas and the coyotes roaming about. Thoughtfully, you stared up at the beautiful night sky and spied a shooting star, feeling almost silly for daring to make a wish.
âRandy always said you should fight for the things that are worth fighting for,â Beauâs voice finally broke the silence. âNever give up.â
You peeled your eyes away from the stars above and looked at him. You chuckled softly at the memory. âYeah, that sounds like him. He was annoyingly persistent like that.â
âI just donât know if itâs worth it, I guess,â he said quietly.
âOf course it is,â you insisted. âYou love Emily and Carla. Theyâre your family.â
âIâve let them down⌠Iâve let a lotta people down, actually,â Beau said, and you could feel his eyes on you from your periphery.
âItâs been a tough year,â you said sympathetically.
âIt has,â he agreed soberly and turned his gaze to the night sky above you. âYou know what star this is?â
âThe North Star, right?â you guessed, following his gaze to the Little Dipper constellation.
âYeah, Polaris. Itâs fixed in the sky while everything else moves âround it. Itâs supposed to help you find your way when youâre lost,â he explained. âTrue north.â
âYouâll find your way again,â you told him confidently and nudged his shoulder, giving him a small but encouraging smile. âNo oneâs blaming you for what happened, Beau, so give yourself some grace, okay?â
He nodded, swallowing harshly as he met your gaze. âThank you.â
Confused, you furrowed your brow. âFor what?â
âNot leaving when you shouldâveâŚâ
You smiled softly. âWeâre friends⌠and trauma bonded. Iâd never do that to you.â
Beau matched your smile, but you could see the tears stinging in the corners of his forest-green eyes as the sadness overwhelmed him. âShit,â he cursed, burying his face in his palms. He sniffed.
Concerned, your brows drew together. You laid your hand on his shoulder and gingerly stroked his back. âBeau, whatâs going on?â
âI canâtâŚâ He struggled for words, shook his head. Whatever was on his mind, he refused to voice it. His lower lip quivered before he covered his mouth with his palm, running a hand over his beard. Then, a sad smile grazed his face. âYou know, I always thought Randy was the luckiest bastard alive.â
âWhy?â
Beau didnât respond. Instead, he closed the distance between you until his lips crashed against yours. You were shocked for a moment, froze down to your core. But then your hands found his cheeks and reflexively pulled him closer, a magnet you had no power over.
His hands did much the same, needily roaming your body and holding you flush against his own. His tongue hungrily slipped inside and devoured yours, tasting like the contents of the flask. Tequila, whiskey, and vodka were only a few you could decipher, but now the aftertaste was heaven instead of hell.
The kiss lasted till your head spun, a lack of oxygen forcing him to withdraw. It couldâve been chalked up to a drunken misstep, a glitch in the fabric of the universe that couldâve been swallowed by a black hole just as suddenly as it happened. But for you, it was enough to turn your whole world upside down and toss your planet out of orbit.
âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have done that,â he whispered, his breath ghosting against your lips. The further he retreated, the more you could see the battle raging in his mind. âFuck,â he cursed and clasped his mouth with his palm.
He jumped off the hood and walked a few suicidal-crazed steps towards the cliff, his back standing like a tall wall between you. You watched his shoulders tense as his gaze drifted upwards to the sky. It seemed like he was praying.
Your fingers touched your kiss-swollen lips, hot and yearning for more. There was a tug on your heart, a rope lassoed around the muscle that pulled you to him.
âBeau?â
Your call of his name forced him to face you. An apologetic and torn look pervaded his features as he fought a combat in his mind and wrung with the feelings in his heart.
âItâs okay,â you said gently.
He met your eyes, a shimmer of hope in his as a glimpse of a smile twitched on his lips. Something you hadnât seen in well over a year. It was so delicate, you werenât sure it wasnât a malfunction. A damn counterfeit.
âHow?â His question hung from the moon with despair.
âI donât know.â
He stared at you for a moment, the hesitation behind his eyes still prominent. You felt the magnetic pull again, and you could tell that he felt it, too.
And then, with a few strides, he was in front of you, hands in your hair as he claimed your lips in a scorching kiss that set your entire world on fire. You sunk into him, forever lost in a cosmos of green, sucked in by his gravity, air gone from your lungs, and feet never touching ground again.
Beau sat in his car in the quiet parking lot of the motel, his gaze wandering up to the night sky above as he thoughtfully rubbed his chin. His other hand rested on the steering wheel, fingers tapping.
The same old war waged in his mind. Guilt filled his heart and bubbled to the surface. He debated whether he should turn the ignition or knock on your door. He always felt torn, unsure if you were a mistake or the best damn thing of his life.
His green eyes then fixed on the North Star, praying it would show him the way to your heart once more. This time, he swore to whoever was listening that he wouldnât lose it. Heâd keep it safe.
âCause the first time he kissed you, it surely changed everything for him.

Montana Stars
Just cute one shot between Beau Arlen and his girl, Y/N.

No warnings needed other than Beau being adorable.
Under the Montana skies, Sheriff Beau Arlen and Y/N found themselves on a date night to remember. They sat on a cozy blanket, gazing up at the starlit sky. The air was crisp, and the only sounds were the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant murmur of a nearby stream.
Beau turned to her, smiling, "Y/N, I can't believe we finally made it out here. I almost forgot how It's so peaceful."
Y/N, nestled closer to the handsome cowboy, "It's perfect, Beau. Just like you said it would be."
Just then, he reached for Y/N's hand, fingers intertwining as they continued to admire the stars.
Breaking the silence, Beau whispered, "You know, my granddaddy used to tell me stories about these stars. He said each one had a story to tell, and if you listened closely enough, you could hear it."
"Really? What kind of stories?" With curiosity, y/n looked at him.
"Well, let's see... That one," he pointed to a bright star, "he always said that's the guardian star. It watches over us and keeps us safe."
She found herself following his finger as he pointed to the star. While she gazed at the brightest one."That's beautiful, what about that one?"
Beau smirked, "Ah, that one's the mischief-maker. It's said to be responsible for all the unexpected kisses under the Montana skies."
Y/N giggled as she turned to face him. "Is that so?"
He whispered as their eyes locked on each other, "You bet. But you know, those stars have been awful quiet tonight."
Y/N felt herself blushing, "Maybe they're waiting for the right moment."
The moment was perfect, the Montana skies serving as their backdrop, and the stars, their silent witnesses. In that embrace, Beau Arlen and Y/N shared a magical night under the stars, where words weren't always necessary to convey their feelings.
