another steddyhands classic for the bookshelf.... really outing myself as an izzy enjoyer here hahaha

very very happy with how this boy turned out!! the airplane/pilot/airport motif really came through for me. i think these chapter titles are the funniest joke ever

the cover is "metallic midnight" bookcloth - another one i accidentally ordered So Much of bc i had no reference for how big a yard of bookcloth was... but actually i'm not too fussed because it's totally awesome! the metallic coating makes it feel much more protective than regular bookcloth and when i made mistakes the glue and paint could be scraped right off.

the endpapers are a marbled paper with the "bird wing" marble pattern (hehe get it.... its another plane joke...) and the cover design is gold acrylic i painted on with a hand cut stencil.

and the best part of the whole book!!!! i finally taught myself how make sewn-on endbands!!! and it was actually so easy!! i feel so bad i didn't do this for all my other books now haha but i guess that's just how learning works or whatever 🙄

text is set in 12pt centaur with 16pt line spacing and 1-inch margins (1.25 on the bottom). i drew the title page art in procreate with my risograph brushes!

I've been meaning to get back to doing recs for, like, two months, but oh well! Finally I am here! Some good stuff I've read lately:

je ne regrette rien by oddishly (4k, Ed/Stede) Ed and Stede's second time, in which Stede is preoccupied with Ed calling their first time a "mistake". Absolutely lovely. So, so well-written, just gorgeous.

just heat and epiphany by endofadream (14k, Ed/Stede) Stede discovers bottoming; they are both VERY into it. This is just thousands of words of porn, but it's very hot and sweet and well-characterized.

kept my eye on the prize by bitethehands (5k, Ed/Izzy, background Ed/Jack, Izzy/Hornigold, Ed/Hornigold, offscreen noncon) Modern AU backstory where young Ed comes to join Hornigold's crime ring, and Izzy watches, knowing that terrible things will happen. This is so painful and excellent and I'm obsessed with it.

in the dark and blue by focusfixated (4k, Ed/Stede) Really tender and gorgeous reunion fic (rewritten before S2), in which the sex is angry and then vulnerable and then exactly what they need.

a monologue for two faces by wrizard (4.5k, Lucius, gen) INCREDIBLE. This is written in script format, as a one-man show for Lucius to talk about his trauma and grief and the difficulties of moving on. Also a lot about his feelings on Izzy. I'm normally not into weird formats, but it's just perfect here. This is just so good; everyone HAS to read this.

ringing all the bells by bitethehands (Ed/Stede/Izzy, 28.5k) Really sweet modern AU where Stede starts a new coffee shop and Ed and Izzy own the Christmas store next door... except it isn’t actually a Christmas store, it’s a front for money laundering and smuggling. Funny and really hot.

If Every Man is True by Jozzig and Specktacles (Ed/Stede/Izzy, sort of? It’s complicated, 6.4k) Ed and Stede have reunited and all is well, but Ed deliberately incites Izzy into fucking him somewhere Stede will find them because, well, babygirl has emotional problems. I loved the relationship dynamics in this, which felt very different from most Steddyhands. Really hot and well-characterized.

The Art of (Smashing) Crockery by PhantomEllie (Ed/Stede, 58k). Modern AU where Ed owns a rage room and Stede is pretty much his only customer. Great story, plus it comes with a playlist! Excellent musical choices also. (Also, wasn’t someone looking for depressed-Stede fics? This really fits the bill, including a near suicide attempt by Stede.)

Done Deal by Skrifores (Ed/Stede, 38k). Okay, everyone has probably already read this, but on the off-chance you haven’t: IT’S SO GOOD. Modern AU, Ed is a glassblower, Stede is still married to Mary and under the impression that he’s straight. This is just incredibly written, the angst is so perfect, the sex scenes are so hot, and I love everything about it.
