A small team that updates regularly and are very sweet and very good and consistent. They’re pure fan passion but thorough in their reviews (not-academic), and while we don’t always agree I like reading their thoughts. They also talk about m/m books and occasionally yaoi. They have an RSS feed so you can aggregate. (You might even be ale to get it sent to you in newsletter form.)

I think just one person who speaks several languages (specifically Japanese & Korean) and keeps an eye to Twitter, Instagram, and places like that where BL announcements are made. They then repackage into a daily digest posting format. More interested in providing content/announcements first, than engaging with fans, so doesn’t really respond to comments or cultivate a community (which is FINE).

When I hear gossip on Tumblr about a new project, this is who I check first, then I bop over to…

It’s worth having an account just so you yourself can keep track of what you watch. You can follow people like me who only review BL, and create lists of it. More importantly you can check the comment threads beneath the different dramas for indie subbers posting more obscure titles. Also people who know what’s going on with production etc…

This is my least used resource for no other reason then I really hate Twitter. But I know a lot of people follow them. And they might be the most up to date source on this list. Very engaged with the community. Also runs a wikia based (or maybe hard coded?) resource of BL + reviews. (I just don’t like the interface, ugly af, but there are some who find it useful and prefer it to MDL).

Does videos regularly of trailer clips etcetera of upcoming dramas (not just Thai stuff). Because they have to cut everything together and upload there is a delay on this content (as compared to the other gossips), but still it’s a fun resource. Also Will is a reader of Thai y-novels and will occasionally post spoilers of currently airing shows (which you don’t’ have to watch, I just like spoilers). Uses a robot voice, but *shrug*.

Hello anon :)

I assumed this is in the context of me reblogging @/firstkanaphans post regarding JaneRyan (The Trainee) and agreeing with her that I think this is the best OffGun series so far.

I guess it's personal taste - but I will also say upfront my taste is weird. For example, I couldn’t finish many mainstream/popular Thai BLs such as KinnPorsche, LITA, The Untamed etc. (being very much aware I’m in the minority here…🙂‍↕️ and I do not plan of finishing these shows).

I also couldn’t for the life of me finish watching “We Are” and “GAP The series” despite the good reviews - I tried! I’m sorry…. I liked all the actors/actresses in these shows. The BTS are cute and the photoshoots of these actors/actresses are gorgeous. Also, snippet of gifs I see on my tumblr dashboard about the shows always make me intrigue. However, I find my mind wandering when I watched them. So I stopped cause I couldn’t concentrate. But these shows I may revisit one day, when the mood is right!)

I will also say that I liked watching Not Me - but not for the OffGun romance. I enjoyed that series for the grittiness, the story telling and the friendship gang. And personal highlight is of course we have First being THE iconic Yok. But the romance OffGun part? - I just didn’t really buy it. I was bemused how Sean suddenly liked “Black” when they have been fierce enemies from the get go.

However, it’s the opposite for The Trainee - I enjoyed it because of the slowburn OffGun romance. The storyline has a simpler premise than Not Me (although I am thoroughly enjoying the almost realistic portrayal of internship in workplace). Also, Off playing a grumpy, overworked mentor with a heart of gold is 😘 while Gun as usual is adorable as a clueless intern who means well but also bring so much chaos to Off’s workplace - it is entertaining to watch.

Commission for Krist Perawat Brasil. It was supposed to be finished before The Krist Elements Concert but due to me having irl & health problems, it took way longer x) Yet I can finally show it))

Still, I haven't done complex print art in a long time and this was my personal project as well *__* It went through so much hardship (and also I only drew Krist's face a few times before so it was a challenge to create the right resemblance as well). But I'm so proud of the result, look at them!

I will probably be printing a T-shirt or a bag for myself as well xD Somebody commission me to draw Not Me, Bad Buddy, The Eclipse or Moonlight Chicken art prints so I can make an entire Fav Thai BL wardrobe lol

I really try to avoid negative reviews on mdl, I really do, because they tend to be mind numbingly stupid takes, but there is one I see so consistently and asserted with such confidence I'm gonna briefly rant about it.

People are allowed to not like shows such as Kiseki and My Dear Gangster Oppa, of course, but they are all the time getting compared unfavourably to shows like Kinnporsche because they 'aren't realistic' and are like 'kids imaginings of the mafia.' This is partially a fair point, they aren't realistic, but what gets me is the implication that Kinnporsche is realistic and is ergo better.

Kinnporsche is not realistic, because organized crime is not glamorous. It's not flashy, it's not glorious, it's not stylized choreography for emotionally fraught fight scenes. Frankly, a lot more tedium assorted with business, such as money laundering/running illegal businesses/infiltrating unions/etc is involved than would initially pop into your head when you hear the word mafia. I'm not saying it isn't violent. It is, and there are gruesome killings, and people tend to die in awful ways far before their natural lifespan. But it is often a more boring, day to day type of violence than what we find in a plotted story.

The thing is, those don't tend to make accessible television or movies (I'm sure there are realistic media treatments I am not aware of, but here I'm referring to stuff intended to have widespread appeal rather than indie or art film). It's glamorized, you are agreeing to suspend some disbelief when you watch the story. It's fine if it feels more realistic to you to watch KP because the sex is more graphic and there are some (frankly incredibly fanciful) torture scenes, but to pretend it is inherently more realistic comes across pretty naive. Some examples are the hospital they have access to and apparently never use, and the plot armour the main characters have to survive fights and situations that would have realistically killed them.

It reminds me of when people claim GOT is sooooo much more realistic than a story like LotR. Setting aside things like dragons, it may be bleaker and more violent, but where are the scores of people dying from sepsis due to stab wounds hmm?

It's fine to like different types of stories, I myself did enjoy at least the first half of KP so this is not just me trying to shit on the show. I just find it really frustrating when people try to use their flawed view of 'realistic' as this gold standard in media analysis.
