The Saturn Cult is one of those ideas that just kinda congealed out of the early 2000s conspiracy froth of antisemitism, islamaphobia, and renewed interest in alien pseudohistory.

There are a few versions:

The Sci Fi UFO version essentially posits that a particular storm on Saturn, which itself looks a bit like a black cube, is actually a sort of forward base for the Evil Reptilian Empire. This black cube symbology is expressed here on earth as the Kabba (the black square structure that forms the center of global Islam) and Tefillin (specifically the small black boxes worn during some Jewish religious ceremonies.) Thus implying that both Jewish and Muslim people are somehow descendants of /controlled by / loyal to / synonymous with this ancient malicious race of reptillian aliens.

The fantasy occult version posits that throughout all of history, there has been a sort of primordial occult anti-church, who worship a nonspecific ancient god usually associated with the planet Saturn and some vague nonsense about lost Mesopotamian civilizations. This Cult of The Black Cube is supposedly the force behind satanism, the parts about Judaism that Christians don't like, Islam, etc. Basically anything and everything thats bad in the world can be traced back to this ancient secret Cult of the Black Cube.

It's a spin on old blood libel that's been adapted for the modern age. Many modern conspiracy theorists engage in complicated forms of anti/philosemitism that come with modern American evangelical Christianity. There's a lot of "we don't hate Jewish people, because as Christians we are basically Jewish anyway." Or "Jewish people are just Christians we haven't gotten to yet." Many Christian Nationalists like Alex see themselves as participating in Jewish identity in some fashion. Even if they see Judaism as a shibboleth, they often see Christians as "the real Jewish people."

So, modern conspiracy narratives have to make room for this. All the Jewish people you like are the good, pure, human ones that are basically Christians anyway, and all the Jewish people you don't like are controlled by the Cult of the Black Cube. It's the Protocols of the Elders of Zion with some extra room to include the Muslims.

It's also important to remember that Alex thinks magic is literally real in the supernatural sense. He unironically sees himself as a prophet, who is currently at war with actual, literal, demons. And he thinks human blood can be processed and consumed in such a way as to trigger mild superpowers.

Basically, many cultures around the world have important objects or places that heavily feature black cubes, the two big examples being the Kaaba at Mecca and jewish tefillin boxes.

Additionally, the planet Saturn has a large dark storm on its north pole. The storm is hexagonal, as if it is several corners of a large, dark cube.

The conspiracy goes that all these instances of black cubes are actually the result of an ancient primordial cult of saturn-worshippers.

This idea of the Cult of Saturn is fringe, even for the conspiracy world, and it almost always gets folded into a David Icke style antisemitism/Islamophobia.

Figured I'd pop in to YouTube and see what the conspiracy theorists are up to, and I found this dude making some wild claims about Christmas and Santa Claus.

He claims that Santa is actually a reptilian, based on the old "Satan is an anagram for Santa" canard. (In reality, "Santa Claus" comes from the Dutch Sinterklaas, AKA Saint Nicholas.) In New Age mythology, Satan is just another name for Enki, whom they regard as a reptilian alien.

It doesn't take long before he starts claiming that Christmas is just a new form of Saturnalia, which has been pretty thoroughly debunked by scholars. Next he leaps to the Black Cube of Saturn conspiracy theory, which for those of you who don't know is another Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion redux. And from here of course he jumps into the blood libel/witch panic tropes, claiming that the elite of Rome practiced child sacrifice.

Next he claims that Apollo (!) is another incarnation of Enki and compares Santa's chariot and claims that Jesus was a sun god created by the Catholic Church, which is extremely ridiculous for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that Christianity existed for three hundred years before Emperor Constantine decided to make Christianity the official Roman religion. (Psst, by the way, if early Christianity interests you, check out Bart D. Ehrman.) This conspiracy theorist claims that Jesus's name derives from "Iesous," which means "hail Zeus" - again, completely made-up etymology.

He shows a graph claiming that the Christmas tree star represents a Satanic pentacle, the Christmas garland on the tree represents the serpent in Eden, the ball ornament represents Ba'al, and the lights represent the torch of Lucifer. In fact, Christmas trees have late medieval origins among Christian peasants from the Rhineland, not the early Catholic Church, and this supposed symbolism is literally just a malicious reading by people who want something sinister to be behind the Christmas tree.

This is why literacy in these topics matters. Without this kind of knowledge, you can watch a video like this and get sucked down into believing the world's deadliest conspiracy theories. The body count is in the millions, and it's still growing with every act of deadly violence motivated by belief in these conspiracy theories.

When he's done looking over every inch of everything, and carefully setting the groups of items down in their own respective piles... he bursts into tears. The kid shoots up and launches himself at Pestrel, wrapping around him with just about every limb he can, while burying his head into the crook of his neck.

It takes a moment for him to be able to talk, but when he does, he mumbles out repeated "thank you"s and "i love you"s over, and over, and over again, with no end in sight. Maybe it would've been better to wait until after dinner... it doesn't look like Saturn's going anywhere for awhile.]
