Gilmore Girls Update

(I am halfway through the first season btw)

The lack of Black people ANYWHERE in this show makes it nearly unwatchable

Rory and Lorelai’s relationship is very cute especially the way they trust each other to make decisions for the good of them both.

Sookie is sweet but makes me sad sometimes because she seems lonely and like kinda desperate sometimes. It’s apparent that she prioritizes her proximity to Lorelai more than anything because she doesn’t have anything else.

I like that Rory usually makes pretty sound decisions and tries not to follow what everyone else is doing because it sometimes gives me anxiety watching young girls make reckless decisions. (Idk trauma maybe)

Dean is ok but I don’t feel like he has Rory’s best interests at heart or that he’s as invested in their relationship. Like the dance thing was annoying to watch because he made it seem like he didn’t care if they went or not despite knowing how important it was to Rory. Idk I just felt like that was a red flag.

Max and Lorelai are cute but it’s kind of obvious they’re not endgame which is fine. I feel like he’s a placeholder anyway. Kinda like the “nice guy” who is sensitive and says the right things but just not the one for the main girl.

Luke’s whole grumpy old guy routine is getting kind of old. Being the town grump who is sweet sometimes doesn’t really work on men idk. It just repels me for some reason but I think it gets Lorelai’s attention so I guess it’s working for him.

I feel so bad for Lane anytime she’s on screen like wow her family situation is really bad. That’s all I can say about that because it is kind of triggering to think about.

All in all, this show is better than I thought and it gives a very cozy/fall vibe but the diversity is SERIOUSLY lacking. It’s unbelievable.

(I am now about halfway into the second season)

I would like to begin with what the hell is the dad from This Is Us doing on this show lmao

I am glad Lorelai did not marry Max. It was super predictable and it would have been such a mess tbh.

It’s so obvious that Luke is her man but I guess they want a bit of a slow burn which I totally get.

I’m not entirely sure how to feel about Emily and Lorelai’s relationship (mainly due to my own abusive mother trauma but I digress).

Dean is kind of a bitch boy. Like he’s kind of really annoying about everything. He can’t even handle being in a mildly uncomfortable situation without totally flipping out which is just an annoying trait.

Jesse is obviously there to fuel Rory’s bad boy era which I totally stan. What can I say? I’m a sucker for drama.

The main thing I love about this show is the witty banter. I love good, quick banter and I am glad to watch a show with so much of it.

P.s. Michel is so gay-coded and it’s kind of funny that they pretend he’s isn’t.

I know you said it offhandedly but im curious on how you think providence would be if BK lead it from the very start? i imagine she would probably pull the sweet and caring shtick on rex from the start. He'd probably buy into it too, who knows!

Same thoughts!!!!!!!!!!! I really believe that Black Knight would use manipulation to get so many people under her thumb, especially Rex. Rex needs validation and an exteneral understanding of worth as proven by his relationship with Six (or at least that's how I interpret the beginning of their relationship). But young Rex? No family? Forced to reside in Providence? That sounds like an easy person to manipulate to me.

In regards to Providence itself, I feel like she would push into being much more aggressive in containing EVOs and being the primary EVO focused research and containment group out there. (The Bug Jar episode introduced for a single second that Providence wasn't the only EVO research group? out there, that other entities wanted the info on that hard drive.) Providence would also probably allow way more unethical research like the stuff that was going on before White Knight took over kind of unethical (child murder.) Black Knight seems like the person who will go to extremes to prove she is right even if all evidence points otherwise so I feel extending this ideology to running Providence would also work. Running it to prove that EVOs can be contained, controlled, maybe even cured no matter the cost to life or image.
