I've been playing a bunch of games during my vacation. Archaelund is an early access classic CRPG that combines the "blobber" style of movement (you control your whole party as a "blob" in first person, but it's not a grid-based dungeon crawler but more akin to later entries in the mainline Wizardry and Might and Magic series) but with tactical grid-based combat. When you run into enemies (who you can see in the first person view) the game transforms into a simple but deep turn-based tactical combat game. For an early access title this game shows a lot of promise and it really scratches the sense of wonder of a lot of early party-based CRPGs I sunk hours into as a kid. There is definitely room for improvement but I think what we have here right now also shows a clarity of vision.
I've also been getting really into Din's Curse and Depths of Peril, a pair of extremely Diablo-esque action RPGs (we need a snappier name for this genre of game. I propose point 'n click adventure games!) running on the same engine and neither of them exactly rewrites the Diablo formula but both add a tiny twist that makes it refreshing. Depths of Peril makes it so that you as the pointer and clicker are in charge of a small faction among five who are actually in competition with each other to show the world that they are the best at pointing and clicking and thus deserve to move on from this world to the next. I think Din's Curse follows chronologically from this, with your character being the one pulled out of the Depths of Peril by the god Din to stop his titular curse, and here the twist to the action RPG formula is that the dungeon is dynamic, with factions forming, and sometimes attacking the town above and killing NPCs and so on.
Of the two I prefer Din's Curse but both are definitely worth a look. They're quite neat imo!

"WRAP YOU IN BUBBLE WRAP" bradley 'rooster' bradshaw x reader
Tumblr media
A woosh of cold air greets you as you open the door of your condo, a relaxed sigh leaving your lips as set your keys down on the small table in the hallway, kicking off your crocs too as you close the door.
"Honey?" A smile spreads on your face, he's not usually home at this time of day. "It's hot as hell outside, if you don't feel like making dinner and you want to just order something in, i wouldn't be opposed."
"Bradley Bradshaw, that is the sexiest thing that's ever left your face." You respond, making your way to find him. He's manspread on the couch, rested back into the plush cushions with his shirt off, toned abs and chest on full display for you, bronze skin glowing in the glow of the sun pouring in from your fifth story balcony. You jump over the arm of the couch and right into your husbands lap, bringing your lips to his.
He's laughing when you finally pull away from him, hands planted firmly on your hips. "I take it you agree with no cookin-what the hell is that?" His eyes are zeroed in on your hands, splayed out on his chest. For a moment you think he's asking about the golden bits of hair wrapped around the massive stone of your engagement ring, until you remember the band-aids wrapped around two of your fingers. "Baby-"
"Oh, it's a funny story actually, a standard poodle sneezed while i was doing a continental cut on it" By the look on his face, he very clearly did not think that this was a funny story, despite the laughter in your voice. "and i was scissoring around the head when it happened and i took out two of my fingers."
"Honey, did you even clean them?!" He sits up, hands supporting your ass when he sees your sheepish look. "I swear you come home from work with more injuries than should be necessary, you literally work with dogs, babe..people are going to think that your job is more dangerous than mine is..that i send you off to battle or something."
"My job is more dangerous than yours." You argue playfully, legs wrapping around his thick, muscular waist as he stands up from the couch with ease, carrying you through the house with an unpleased expression on his face. He kisses your forehead as he walks, presumably headed for the bathroom. "I run the potential of getting my face bit off or cutting off my fingers every day, or even worse, hurting one of those poor sweet babies."
"Those poor sweet babies," He scoffs, rolling his eyes as he kicks open the bathroom door and uses one of his hands to flick on the light. "send you home to me covered in new bruises, scratches and these almost every single day." He raises your hand up, giving it a pointed look as he clearly eyes the blood seeping around the edge of the poorly applied bandages. He tsks as he starts to unfurl them from you, rummaging in the cabinet behind your head for what you're assuming was wound cleaning supplies, the kind you would typically use on him. "I ought to come up there and stand by your table and give them all what for when they all start acting up, maybe then you'll come home to me all nice and pretty and unharmed, just how you leave me."
"Mmm, all the ladies at work would just love to have a big strong man like you standing around to do all the work we hate doing.." You say, smile perking on your lips again as you watch him work on your fingers, cleaning them with something that makes you hiss before he blows cool air on them, re-wrapping them in clean, properly fitted bandages.
"Mhm, speaking of, how is Brenda? Does she go home to her husband like this too?" You whap his chest with your good hand and he snorts in laughter at you, knowing good and damn well that the woman could be just as clumsy as you, if not worse. "Wonder if he considers wrapping his wife up in bubble wrap too before sending her off."
"I don't think bubble wrap would be very conducive to my working environment."
"I don't think your working environment is conducive to your bodily health."
You both snort out in laughter before kissing each other once more. "I'll go ahead and order dinner, take yourself a shower baby." He says, helping you down off of the counter. "I'm serious about that bubble wrap! Stop coming home to me like this!"
"I can't make any promises!"

I wrote this for Taylor back before my Minneapolis Rep concert. I wanted to have something prepared just in case, as I would be a blobbering mess since I am a big crier. I have sent it to her a couple of times via message, but we all know with how busy she is there is just no way that she could possibly see everyone's messages.
I never posted it because I was scared that someone else would get to say my words to her before me. But the more I think about it, what if Taylor never shared her art because of fear? What if poets never shared their words of wisdom? I decided I wanted to share it now because there are probably a lot of swifties who could relate to my words and I want to be able to share my art with you.
If these words do relate and you would like to share, that would mean the world to me. I just ask that you please do not claim them as your own.
@taylorswift thank you so much for sharing your art and talent with us. For the moments you saved us, uplifted us and gave us courage and hope. Your songs are more than just music to us, they are life lessons. They are words of advice. They can help turn any bad day around. We can never thank you enough! @taylornation

I never finish anything. Ever. I've got so many stories that are half or 3/4 done and just sitting there collecting dust because my motivation just evaporated and I can't get back into them or see the point and I hate it.
Same. I just stop caring about them. I don’t see a problem with that either. No one’s relying on me to finish them, are they? It’s not like an arts and crafts project literally collecting dust that someone might trip over. It’s a file on my computer. I might come back to it someday and there it will be.
Maybe you already posted it online though. I personally avoid posting long stories I don’t have an ending for online because I know I’ll never finish them. But if you have and you feel irritated with yourself for getting readers interested only to never finish it, don’t. You think you’re the first writer to never finish a fic? They’re used to it. Apologize with a shrug and either take it down or leave it up.
I have one story (under a different username) that I got four chapters out of before dumping the shallow muse and moving on. I left a note saying, “hey, I don’t like this story anymore, you know how that goes” and orphaned the account. The story still gets constructive criticism from time to time, and I just laugh, like, “Yeah, no kidding it’s problematic, Karen. That’s why I abandoned it on a doorstep like an ugly lawn gnome.”
WHY did I stop working on that WIP though? I had a lot of passion in the beginning, and parts of it are still really cool to me now. Why did I quit?
I grew up. I wrote it in my late teens. It was post-graduation angst. It was “about a boy.” In short, it has nothing to do with my life now. I got past those childish feelings and you know what? You will always see your past work as childish because you are always growing, whether you wrote it at fifteen or forty-five. If that moment no longer exists with you, you can’t finish that story with the same zeal that started it. That’s normal.
Look, don’t hate yourself or your unfinished work. You lost the muse and that happens to the best of us, it’s not worth getting upset about. The bad news is, now you have a half built story that you lost the plans for. The good news is you have a half built story! Do whatever you want with it! Change the characters’ genders, ethnicities, back stories! Put them in ancient China instead of Medieval Europe! Give them a hover car! A pet ostrich! A million dollars!
Who’s going to stop you? Not past you, that’s for sure. Future you can’t do nothing about it yet either. It’s up to present, bored, frustrated you who just needs to bury your hands in play sand (old writing) and make a weird castle (or an awesome one). Just...have fun, man. That’s all anyone’s doing.

Blog Updated
Hello Blobbers! I updated the blog with new links and a new theme! Along with the official sites, I've also added the Ova Magica Subreddit, and Fandom/Wikia.
It's been quite busy in my life, and there hasn't been many OM updates. I'll start adding the KS updates and Claudia's Tweets to the blog within the next week.
Thanks!

My Rig, “Fun & Games”
I recently moved to a new city – Milwaukee, in the first semi-permanent move of my adult life. I’ve left for college, and to study abroad, but those moves didn’t necessitate the kind of inventory management this one has. In this move I took stock of what I own, and got rid of a lot of extraneous stuff; mostly to justify the extraneous stuff I know I’m going to accrue very soon.
In the interest of taking stock and being organized, I thought it would be nice to make a rig list dedicated to all the hardware shit I own that ostensibly helps me make art.
Computer Motherboard: Gigabyte M68MT-S2 CPU: AMD FX-8120 Eight Core GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 HDD: 1TB Seagate RAM: 8GB DDR3 Soundcard: Yamaha MG10XU   (External)
Hardware -Yamaha MG10XU Mixing Console (Thanks for letting me steal this, dad) -Polk Audio T15 Bookshelf Speakers -Boss CH-1 “Super Chorus” effect pedal -TC Electronics “Ditto X2” loop pedal -V-Moda LP2 Headphones -Pioneer VSK-522-K  A/V reciever – Floureon BM-800 Condenser Mic
Instruments -Yamaha YDP-143 Digital Piano -Novation Impulse49 MIDI Keyboard (w/proline pedal) -Novation Launchpad Mini (I’ll learn how to use you one day) -JOM -Yamaha YRH-314 French Horn
This is probably a tacky thing to do, but I think it will be helpful for me to have a running list of the hardware I’m using, so I can at least know what I should prioritize upgrading, and so I don’t forget to use everything I have. It also gives me the comfortable illusion that I know something about life as I start to get bills, and tax thingers, and Starbucks “Partner Kits” in the mail. I’ve got a few nice “responsibility piles” going, but I’m already out of desk space, so maybe I’ll invest in a paper organizer next.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In other news, I have a Bandcamp! True, I’ve had one before, but this time I’m 70% sure I won’t immediately feel overwhelming self doubt and take it down right away. Because this time I have an EP! You can buy it for 3$, or pay what you want for any individual track. True again, this EP is actually just a collection of all the stuff I’ve made in the past year glued together and given a unifying image and title, but what is art anyway?
Actually though, it feels nice to put an end on something, even if it’s a mostly arbitrary end to something I didn’t really know I was starting to begin with. There’s a feeling of inadequacy I often get when listening to other peoples music. When I tried to express that feeling to  my friend she asked, “Won’t you always feel that way though?”. It’s nice to think that my heroes have heroes and that they probably feel inadequate when they make that same comparison. I’ve found that no matter what I’m working on, it’s hard to value the progress I’m making. But it’s humbling to think that even if you “make it” in some way, it will still be hard.
I named the playlist that held my compositions “Fun & Games” a long time ago. I think at one point it held my one and only original recorded piece. But the title still feels appropriate. It’s a nice reminder that even though I’m making these arbitrary decisions, like when to be done with a project that has no deadline, and how much to sell it for – all I’m actually doing is playing and learning, and for the moment that’s all I want to be doing.
It seems like I’ve hit the equilibrium of boring technical blubbering and boring emotional blobbering, so ta-ta for now. (originally posted on wordpress)
