The blue dragon role playing card game which had two starter decks (light and dark) and two booster box sets available in English.
There was more sets also known as volumes (up to 11) released in Japan after the initial sets which were printed in English which had cards from the second season and shadow cards which had the artwork of the corporeal shadows from the Xbox 360 game

I like how on this iconic screeshot, almost everyone is doing a determined/angry expression...
Tumblr media
...And then there's just Marumaro with his dead pan poker face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, he is still obviously determined, but it always looked like a poker face to me lol.

Inktober 2018, Day 19 ✒ Zola & Marumaro (Blue Dragon)
These two are honestly my favorite thing about Blue Dragon. Zola is too cool to stay in your party at multiple parts of the game & Marumaro just yells all of his dialogue. I LOVE IT~
Sorry it’s a day late! I needed yesterday evening to recharge and rest! I should be have today’s drawing done within a few hours, so stay tuned!

Tried drawing out aaaallllll my villagers from Builders 2. I at first got to Clayton and was like ‘oh god i didnt realise how many there were...’ but soldiered on!
Ilda and Malroth’s house is in the green gardens (though Malroth barely ever uses it -_- ). Rosie and Britney are close and Britney’s fond of patrolling around the farmers fields. They share a house together! Lillian is the main cook and Llana is the bartender at the bar. Himiko’s a killing machine that helps with the farming (she’s named after the same character from the rpg Blue Dragon!). Lauren’s the shopkeeper and is only really in it for the money... There are one cow, sheep and chicken each and two dogs: Paula and Jess who I’m currently trying to breed (Paula is named after Paula from Earthbound and Jess after my late dog)
The Scarlet Sands would be where Phi would live but I don’t actually have a Phi in-game. Digby and Dougie are sometimes residents but I moved them out I believe to make room for the puppy (and I can’t move one without the other, duh!). Gooliope the slime shares a room with one of the dancing girls, she seems to love the piano there and is great at making oil. Kiki’s a cute singer and named after my bestie! Emilie is this areas shopkeeper and has a little rivalry with Lauren (she’s quite smug because her shop is bigger). Anise and Arabella are twin sister Cosmic Chymeras. One love to do cooking but I can never tell which... Sabre and Marumaro are a small Sabrecat family, they like to sleep on the building roofs. (and more characters named after Blue Dragon Characters!)
And finally the Cerulean Steppe! It’s where Lulu lives, she loves it because it has a castle, her room is very extravagant and fit for a princess. Anessa is the leader of the guards with Zara as her deputy. Zara and Esther are close and share a house! Tureen’s the resident Liquid Metal Slime and loves playing tag. The two guards Liza and Lucie are named after my online bestie and my sister <3 ! Pudding is the dog from Furrowfield (named after the Princess of Moonbrooke!). Haydin and Meenah are a couple with Meenah being just a beginner bard. Cellise is a bloody hand, she shares a bedroom with Nera (who she has a crush on). Szabo and Kesu are the gardeners here with just a small spot by the castle for their farmyard. Aurora is a golem who I think was meant to live on the Scarlet Sands but she ended up here somehow... (named after Aurora from the Azran Legacy!)
Ooops, kinda long! Eehee, hope you enjoyed!

Ami Shibata
story and artist for blue dragon secret trick and other manga's
Blue dragon secret trick is based on the game of the same name with the characters appearing along side a girl, who style wise seems to appear in all of ami's work
Her art style features very little shading which is seen
Tumblr media
Although I do not like ami’s styling for the main blue dragon characters (shu, kluke, zola, jiro, marumaro) it is still useful to look into how she has portrayed the characters which will be useful for the planning and production for my Fan comic of blue dragon
References:
Matei, Robert. (2006). blue dragon turned into manga. Available: https://news.softpedia.com/news/Blue-Dragon-Turned-Into-Manga-40222.shtml. Last accessed 24/3/21. - not very useful as it only states that i will become a manga/anime series but is useful to find out the rough date the manga was announced

Last accessed 24/3/21. - it is in a different language however once translated gives the synopsis of the manga which will be useful to help me with creating my fan comic and includes more images than what was available on the eBay listing I found that also included images of some of the pages allowing me to get a range of referances for my fan recreation of blue dragon
unknown. (n/a). n/a. Available: https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/u355763786. Last accessed 24/3/21. - similar to the reference above it includes more images of the pages inside the manga however the website needs to be translated as it is all in Japanese

A Look At Stuff You Probably Never Heard Of: Blue Dragon (anime)
Last month, I took a look at the video game, Blue Dragon, which involved Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy and Akira Toriyama of Dragon Ball. The two of which worked together on Chrono Trigger. This month, I’ll be taking a look at its anime adaptation. So today, I give you... well... Blue Dragon!
Tumblr media
The Blue Dragon anime was animated by Studio Pierrot (the same company that animated the Naruto series, as well as Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho) and directed by Yukihiro Matsushita, with music done by Megumi Oohashi and Nobou Uematsu, who also did music for many Final Fantasy games and composed for the Blue Dragon game. It initially aired on TV Tokyo from April 7th, 2007 to March 28th, 2008 across 51 episodes. It also got a second series that aired from April 5th, 2008 to March 29th, 2009. In the West, the anime was dubbed by Viz Media and licensed by Viz in the US and Manga Entertainment in the UK. In America, the first episode aired on Cartoon Network aired on March 28th, 2008..
Tumblr media
The plot differs greatly from the game.
Rather than his village being harassed by a Land Shark, Shu wants to become the apprentice of a Knight Master, a knight who became a master of combat. He gets excited upon hearing a Knight Master arrived in his village, thanks to his best friend, Kluke. They end up meeting a woman named Zola and her apprentice, Jiro; who, unlike in the game, wasn’t raised in the same village as Shu and Kluke. As a result, he’s not their childhood friend. Suddenly, Shu and Kluke’s village is attacked by soldiers of the Grand Kingdom and attempting to protect the civilians, Zola unleashes her Shadow, Killer Bat. Desperate to try and help, Shu inadvertently summons his own Shadow, the Blue Dragon, but can’t control it as it lashes out, attacking anything and everything, allies and enemies alike until Jiro summons his own Shadow, Minotaur, to subdue Shu, causing the Blue Dragon to vanish.
With the soldiers defeated, village in shambles, and Shu awakened to a new power, Zola offers Shu the chance to accompany her and Jiro on their journey, as the soldiers would be after the Blue Dragon and staying in the village would put the villagers in danger. Kluke accompanies them to make sure Shu is safe. Along the way, they meet a Deevee named Marumaro and a new character, a barmaid named Bouquet.
Tumblr media
The anime does a pretty good job imitating Blue Dragon’s style (AKA Akira Toyriama’s style) and does a good job translating 3D models into 2D animations. Easily the animation is at its best when a character summons their Shadow and during action scenes, as the animation company has quite a bit of experience with action scenes.
With all that done, it is once again time for the Final Recommendation: Never Let Go Of It||Get It||Hold Onto It||Try It||Consider It||Stay Away From It
While not a great adaptation, it does a decent job as is. But as stated before, this anime greatly changes the plot of the game, but keeps the main idea, Shu and his companions saving the world from Nene’s tyranny. However, they go about it in a much different way. The group doesn’t even encounter Nene until 14 episodes in as much of the previous episodes are about the group arriving in a new location and dealing with a no problem, be it Nene’s minions or something more benign.
Characters have also undergone some changes. Zola is more or less the same, but Shu is much more impatient and hot-headed with his “never give up” attitude coming of more like hot-headed stubbornness. And Jiro is your standard “cool guy rival who butts heads with the main character, causing the two to fight over pretty much anything” archetype. Kluke is far more short-tempered and rather than wanting to be a doctor, she’s obsessed with machines. And Marumaro is nowhere near as loud as in the games, but is much more perverted, falling under the same trappings as much other perverted characters in anime. And for a good few episodes, Shu struggles to summon and control his Blue Dragon, typically requiring a hit from Kluke’s frying pan to summon his Shadow, but has to be knocked out once his Shadow does on a rampage.
There’s also a new character named Bouquet, a ditzy barmaid who was being harassed by two customers before Shu and Zola fend them off. After being fired, she follows the group for a bit before officially joining their party, gaining a crush on Shu almost instantly. Her Shadow is Hippopotamus and she has the ability to turn invisible and even copy another person’s appearance.
And speaking of Shadows, unlike in the games, Shadows are actually able to speak. As in converse with others through spoken words. Each has their own personality and can freely speak with their User, other Shadows, and other living creatures. For example, Shu’s Blue Dragon was cold and distant, not respecting Shu as its Master. Kluke’s Phoenix is far more gentle, offering advice when available and will often bend an hear to her Master when Kluke simply needs someone to talk to. And Bouquet’s Hippo is a complete coward who has no fighting capabilities whatsoever.
Before I end this, I’d like to mention that the English dub was heavily censored, mainly due to a good amount of Bouquet’s scenes being very fanservicey in nature, far more than what could be aired for children on Cartoon Network.
If you’re curious about the show, you can watch it on Hulu or on the Viz website, uncut. If you want to see the show as it aired on TV, you can watch it on YouTube. In fact, I’ll leave you guys with the first episode. I’ll see you guys next month!

AU Idea: Shadow Melee Class Lock
Alternate Universe where each Shadow is locked to a single melee based class.
Zola keeps her Assassin Class.
Marumaro keeps his Monk Class.
Shu keeps his Swordmaster Class.
Kluke gets the Guardian Class.
Jiro gets the Generalist Class.
I've started playing this, we'll see how it goes.

#LegionGamerRD #ElGamingnosune #Videojuegos #Gaming #RetroGaming #RetroGamer #CulturaGaming #CulturaGamer #GamingHistory #HistoriaGaming #GamerDominicano #GamingPodcast #Podcast #Mistwalker #Artoon #BlueDragon #Microsoft #Xbox #Xbox360 #XboxOne #JRPG #RPG https://www.instagram.com/p/CTHj8vdLbAh/?utm_medium=tumblr
