okay so I’ve been watching the last dungeon boonies lately and I met Mr. Threonine recently. Which made me chuckle since Threonine is a type of amino acid, and I’m nerdy so I found it fun. But then I started thinking and now my brain has ceased to function

Lloyd Belladonna -> Belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade, is a toxic plant from which a number of medicines can be derived

Marie Azami -> Marie could potentially be a reference to Marie Curie

Riho Flavin -> Riboflavin, or Vitamin B2. Flavins more generally are organic compounds present in many different forms in biology

Selen Hemein -> Hemin is a biological compound known as a porphyrin that contains iron and chloride. Selen could be short for “selenium”, which is a type of mineral. A quick google search shows that hemin may have some effect on selenium

Allan Toin Lidocaine -> Lidocaine is a type of local anesthetic. Allantoin is a compound produced from uric acid and can be used as a treatment for some skin problems. As it turns out, there’s a number of medicines in which lidocaine and allantoin are combined into one ointment/gel/etc.

I was watching a YouTube video last night and the guy was like "this fake show high school had 300 kids and that's WAY too few there's no way that would happen"

Which is very funny because my school had some 280 kids and my graduating high school class was so large it was a solid THIRD of the schools population and we weren't all replaced either. Oh, and that includes the grade 7/8 students that were moved in halfway through my high school experience in an attempt to keep the severely underpopulated school open lmao.

I'd say rural life is weird but at this point I lived in town and despite the town having less than 3000 people I don't count it as rural living

It Just Got Better

Pairing: John Price x Reader

Summary: You meet someone named John Price in the smoking area outside a concert venue. You don't intend to have a conversation but you do. It just feels...right.

Author's Note: Requested by @deadbranch - I was writing this last night on ao3 when I accidentally closed it out without saving. Safe to say I went straight to bed after that. (Semi proofread)

Your friends decided it was time for you to start dating again. Which is why you are currently on a "date" with someone you just meant. Your date decided he needed a last-minute concert buddy and asked you. Those friends of yours thought it was a great idea, and since you didn't want to let them down you said yes. You enjoyed going to concerts, but you had no idea what band was playing. The concert venue was pretty small, and there was only a hand full of people present. Since it was small the lines were also shorter than normal. But ever since you got to the venue you couldn't help but itch for a smoke. Thank god the lines were short you thought to yourself. You held your composure as you both made your way into the building. Since this was a standing concert everyone was huddled around the stage waiting for it to start. You and your date stand somewhere in the middle of everyone. You look around and see the door to the back of the building. Once you turn back to face the stage the lights dim and music starts to play. The crowd was roaring with excitement. Looking over at your date, you realize he was paying no attention to you. You took this as a perfect time to slip out and outside. 

You practically slam the door open, the cold air hits you first sending a chill down your spine. You close your eyes taking in the moment. Yet you open them to see someone already standing against the wall, smoking. You lean up against the wall on the other side of the door, but you can't help but let your eyes roam the mysterious man. You start looking for the pack of cigarettes you recently bought. You took your time looking, for the cigarette and at the man. He was an older man wearing a boonie hat, with a decent amount of facial hair. Then taking a wild guess you figured he was around 6'2 which you couldn't help but admire.

Your attention snaps away from him once you realize you forgot a lighter at home. "Fuck," you curse under your breath.

"You need a light, hun?" he asks.

Just from that sentence, and his accent you could tell he was British. You look up at him, he holds out his light and motions you to come closer. You did. He hovers his lighter in front of you and takes a step forward as well. You put your hand over it covering it from the wind and put your cigarette up to the flame. You could almost feel his body heat just this close to him. You panic, mumbling some curses to yourself and at why the cigarette won't light fast enough. Once it does, you quickly back away. After the first puff, you look up and he is still looking at you.

"Thank you," you say quietly.

"You're welcome," he says. A moment passes, and you move back against the wall when he speaks again, "Aren't you going to enjoy the concert?" he asks in a curious tone. 

You let out a sigh. "I um, well I'm here with a date. My friends wanted me to go, so I did. He's enjoying the concert. Me on the other hand, I have no idea what band this is nor do I want to be here," you pause for a moment, "Sorry I'm rambling." 

He lets out a deep laugh, "It's quite all right. I'm here with my work team, they wanted a night out so I offered to drive em' and stay. Which is why I'm out here. Glad I have company now." 

You don't bother to make eye contact with him, if you did you wouldn't know what would happen. "I'm glad I have better company now," you let out a laugh. 

"He's not a good date, huh?" he questions. 

You look up at him, his blue eyes locked on yours. You stutter out, "Yeah, um. He's just really into the concert. He pays no mind to me, which is probably a good thing." 

"Hmm, still I'm sure you deserve better than that guy," he pauses for a moment, "How could he focus on the concert when you were right there," he whispers, yet it was loud enough for you to hear. 

Your eyes widen, his words replaying in your mind over and over again. You can't help but blush. You take another puff of your cigarette anxiously. He could tell you were affected by his words, "Sorry, that was too forward wasn't it?" his words were cocky yet confident. 

"It's alright," you say slowly. The way he talked with you, you couldn't help but be interested. "What's your name?" you decide to ask. 

He blew out the smoke from his cigarette, "John Price, you?" 

Telling him your name, he's quick to compliment it. You couldn't help but think about how much he was making you blush. Suddenly the cold air was the least of your problems now. His compliments gave you a huge ego boost, so deciding to be bold you ask him, "Do you, um. Have a girlfriend?" 

He laughs out his response, "I do not." You could feel his eyes move over to you, "But I sure as hell wouldn't mind having one, hm." 

You shuttered with excitement at the thought. Still feeling his eyes watching you, you turn over to him and ask, "Do you want to have a drink with me? There's a bar inside..." You let the idea linger in the air, afraid he would reject it. 

He puts his cigarette flame out, "I'd love to." 

You couldn't help but smile up at him, you do the same with your cigarette. "Then let's," You couldn't help but show your excitement. As you made your way over to the bar your phone buzzed. It was your friends asking if the date was going well. A small grin appears on your face as you type back, "It just got even better :)"  You turn your phone on DND and make your way over to the bar where John was saving a seat for you.

yessss a question for the avatar AU…. :D a bit of rambling ahead because I am incredibly autistic about this new AU of mine. I've also answered your second question through the first question, if you don't mind :)

like I've mentioned before, this AU is set in an alternate universe where the air nomads are still alive and there's no hundred year war. there's still conflict though. this isn't really an "X in Y's place" AU -- I'm fitting the ttte/cstm characters in the atla universe. I'll tell you what the steam team is doing in the AU! (art of some of them here)

thomas is a young, amateur waterbender from the southern water tribe. he spends most of his time hanging out with edward and percy. he always gets into trouble -- stuck on ice floes, buried underneath snow, and drenched in water after a failed waterbending attempt. this was also one of the ways he encountered lady, which is after an avalanche near a cave. thomas proposed the idea that all four of them travel the world together and find bending arts teachers for lady ("I need to train too and become a really great waterbender!")

edward is a waterbending master from the southern water tribe. although he still has a lot of fire in him, he displays little interest in fighting and spends his free time brewing tea and writing in his journal. despite not revealing much about his past prior to living in the south pole, he teaches thomas waterbending and is some sort of father figure to him. edward's respected by a lot of tribespeople, though they tend to poke fun at him for being too old. after the formation of team avatar and getting his two old friends to join (after visiting the earth kingdom and fire nation consecutively), they said that edward is able to bloodbend, but edward entertained the silly idea by saying that "he's too old and small for that". he is also VERY quick and agile in chi-blocking techniques.

henry is a strong yet sickly, cynical yet gentle earthbender from gaoling, earth kingdom. after noticing the rising tensions in politics in ba sing se and witnessing how corrupt the dai li has become after a life-threatening accident, henry resides in the quieter part of the earth kingdom and manages his own flower/tea shop. after team avatar witnessed his immense strength in apprehending bandits wreaking havoc in his shop, lady asked henry to get on board the team. henry initially refuses, not wanting to get caught up in any weird life-threatening avatar business, but after being convinced by edward, he eventually folds. thomas does notice that his teacher acts awkward around their team's newest earthbending teacher.

gordon is the youngest son of a nobleman from the fire nation. he had a disgraceful agni kai -- stemming from a difference in political beliefs regarding their family and their relations to the fire nation army -- between him and his older remaining brother, scott. gordon lost, but not officially, as scott refused to scar him, disgracing both him and gordon. he then ran away to the boonies of the fire nation where he honed his lightningbending skills -- his signature bending arts -- in order to restore his pride. he first met team avatar when he challenged lady in an agni kai (gresleys loooove their agni kais) until edward had to chi-block him before he even launched an attack. as prideful as ever, gordon believes lady needs a firebending teacher (true) and joined team avatar. he doesn't seem too thrilled to see his old distant friends on board with him, though.

james is an ember island theater actor who believes he deserves more than what he's paid. he's very passionate about acting but is dissatisfied with the scripts given to him. team avatar encountered him when he was playing gordon in one of the plays (and horribly butchering his character). james joined because he wanted to learn more about their journeys and thought that he's essential to lighten up everyone's spirits. james is still his vain self and once told lady that being the avatar isn't THAT hard but he's a genuinely caring person. he's also the "bard" of the group and has some sassy yet well-meaning pick-me-ups. his favorite songs to cover are "girls from ba sing se" and "secret tunnel". also he and gordon once got drunk off cactus juice and the group never let him live that down.

percy is a nonbender from the southern water tribe. he's a known charmer for both his cute-ish face and determined personality. his mother was duck's sister, an earth kingdom noblewoman, while his father is a south pole tribesman. since there's no hundred year war in this AU, percy trains as a south pole tribe warrior just to guard the south pole village. since there's no threat (until d10's army invaded because he heard that lady is there), he spends most of his days helping out the tribespeople with whatever task they have or getting himself dragged into thomas' antics, including being the avatar's playful "bodyguard" in their world-cross journey.

toby is a waterbender from the northern water tribe and is the first person to be recruited in team avatar after they had left the southern water tribe. he was initially mavis' (the north pole princess) caretaker and one of the waterbending masters, but after an attack from d10's fire army, she turned into the moon to preserve waterbending. toby then joined team avatar out of guilt but found himself to be entertained by thomas and percy's antics and lady's curiosity about the world outside the air temples, which gives him hope for the youth. toby also has a strong dislike towards the fire nation army and the earthbending soldiers, particularly the dai li, and is well-versed in the militaristic structures of the two big countries and their weaknesses.

duck is an earthbender from one of ba sing se's noble families. he's really loyal to his city and the earth kingdom itself. although many people consider him charming and intelligent, he's really adamant about following laws, though this is mostly because of his family's influence. the little western (don, doug, oliver, toad) is kinda his body guards/personally recruited soldiers that work for him loosely and their primary target is to watch over diesel, a suspected spy from d10's army. duck senses that d10 is planning something bad for ba sing se. this is also his reasoning to join team avatar (despite initially distrusted by the strike trio). even though he doesn't always follow them around, he provides updates regarding the fire nation and earth kingdom.

and that's all for the famous 8!

as for the final agni kai, I'm still thinking about that one. at first, I was thinking the final agni kai wil be between spencer and gordon instead of between scott and gordon because the two brothers never genuinely hated each other while the two cousins are seconds away from blowing each other up. but, in what reason would spencer be working with diesel 10? why would he side with a nonbender who wants to abandon the old ways of bending and bring forth a new era in an extreme way? then I thought of spencer just being a massive fire nation glazer (and having thrown scott in jail or injured him) and how his dislike for team avatar turned into hate after they freed the prisoners from the boiling rock prison (including hiro). I'll get back to the idea later because I LOVE gresley family drama

I assume adachi would've been in jail when joker got arrested? but if he wasn't I wonder if he would've tried to help him out of that situation... adachi seems pretty estranged from his family aside from the occasional formalities but I think he'd understand how unfair the actions of the police can be... of course he'd have too little authority to really make a difference :(

I've been good. These food recalls have been affecting everyone, and I'm trying to keep up on which foods to not eat and which ones I can eat. Also, I heard about the G4/G5 crossover show that Hasbro was going to do, but it was cancelled. I don't know what the show was going to be like. Probably some sort of camp that allowed those from both the past (G4) and future (G5) to attend, or it was an alternate universe where the characters of G5 lived in the present with the characters of G4. Don't know which it was going to be. Movies and tv shows that are usually aired on tv are now aired on stream instead, which prevents others from watching it unless you pay for a subscription to some streaming service in order to watch said movie, or it's a free sign-up for the service but you have to pay for Premium in order to watch certain shows and movies. Been watching some Boonie Bears movies over and over as they're fun to watch and funny. Sorry for rambling on and on. ^^;

i think she looks too young here (she's supposed to be 10-12 which i realize is a pretty big gap developmentally in a lot of ways but i cannot remember the age i decided except just "preteen" 😭) so I think maybe this is like before her death* during one of the last times she was bullied on the playground at school (bc she was. probably expelled. after this. um.), I'm imagining like... she gets a bug or smth thrown at her and it hits her and then there's that horror movie creeeeeeak noise as she turns to look at the kid who threw it before she snaps and beats the kid up sbfjdkl

Heard you liked hearing about spidersonas?

Here's one Ive got rattling around since the first movie: Climber, (Not the most creative name, i know) aka Sierra.

Was bitten, yes, probably while visiting cousins in the city, but lives and mainly operates in the boonies. Lives in a very forested and mountainous region, mostly deals with like, people getting lost, wildfires, helps with evacuation during flooding, as well as dealing with poaching. They spend the rest of their time helping field researchers and just, observing animals, bugs and plants as a hobby.

Barely even has a super suit, dressed in hiky/outdoorsy clothes with googles for a somewhat similar effect as the classic "eyes".

Their backstory has their dad ditching their mum, but the mum, (who eventually died but left behind a passion for botany, butterflies and birds (sorry, I like the alliteration.)) was taken in by the dads family, mainly his brother, the Ben figure. When Ben died, the cousin/adopted sibling of Sierra had left the boonies for the city and Sierra inhereted the property. Its not much, but its enough for them to raise chickens and have a few fruit trees and stuff, and also house random hikers, cavers/spelunkers and field researchers.

Their "secred id" is a farce in the community, they're known and barely even bothered to hide that sweet "girl next door" Sierra is that funky guy, Climber the farmers and villagers in the area dgaf. They dont rat the id to strangers, but the secret is so open its barely even a secret.

Their main enemies that arent dumb people grilling that never learnt fire safety is a bigwig forester (that want to clearcut ancient forests, you know the kinds), a mining company and a reoccuring band of poachers.

They're a natures activist, and the forest in question does overtime get chunks of it being declared nature preserves but you know how it is, some companies (tries to) cheat.

They're basically a local "smoky the bear" but for ecological balance and preservation. They're sometimes called in to talk about the local flora and/or fauna during field days for the school or scouts. They Will Ramble For Hours About Finches.

Neeeat, I think its interesting when ppl have spidersonas that dont live in a city!

He rambled home one day to find it altogether changed. When Ben was a child, his hometown was one you'd drive right through and miss, 'you didn't watch the roads or the trees. Everyone called it North Wetyin back then.

North Wetyin, in the tradition of probably all backwoods villages, was more like five or eight miles out from the bustling North Wetyin of 30,000 strong. At least, he remembered it being eight or ten. Today it seemed like five or less, like the boonies suddenly came into a lot of gambling money and turned a blind drunk eye as city developers ate their way into the trees, swallowing distance. The real name was something like Wetsprings or Westwood. Something lost to time. 'Lot of trails lost, too, but that didn't put him off walking them.

Forty-five minutes through a dog-friendly path, something Ben and his Dobermann could ease into, and he stopped to breathe in the piny air. Off a guarded ledge, a shaded dome, all kinds of green. More trees than he'd seen in a decade. He felt gnarled and big, getting old, like the cedars and firs.

A little ways off was a gulley so lush Ben almost missed the valley closure signs. D.O. reminded him with a low growl. Ben tilted his cap in a way that said, 'Just a look,' and D.O. hung back in a way that said, 'Your funeral, bucko.'

He just had a look—couldn't help it. The flowers drew him, these white frilly poles, sprays of curling mango-hued leaves. Invasives, maybe. His eyes drifted onto a boulder shaped sort of like a head. D.O. growled, then yipped, loud enough to ruffle a few feathers up in the trees.

"Quiet," Ben grunted. But all right. Look had.

Just as he began to make his way back, the mossy head-shaped boulder moved; it turned the whole way left. Turned on a neck thick as a redwood and so close, Ben stumbled a good dozen steps back toward D.O., boots scuffing the poor man's asylum of the cleared path, feeling like he was falling the entire time.

D.O. bark-whined excitedly like she was saying, 'Told you so,' but all Ben could do was freeze.

1. Which labels do you use?

Asexual and aromantic cis(???how do you define cis???) woman. There are probably some microlabels under the ace/aro umbrellas that could describe me but I don't tend to dive into microlabels anymore - I've found that defining myself by those feels more like cutting myself up to fit into little boxes rather than finding a space I'm comfy in. I'm okay with being referred to as gay when it's a joke or as part of a group (ie "one of the gays" "gay people in your phone") and I'll count myself as a member of the LGBT community if directly asked (though I'm always a little hesitant because they don't always want to include me back). I don't use queer because I've never had it thrown at me and don't feel I have the right to reclaim it.

8. Describe your gender without using any words traditionally related to gender:

I don't know how, but you got the right answer with the wrong equation.

20. Do you feel like you "fit in" with the queer/Pride community overall?

Yes and no. I'm very thankful for the community because it's the only place I've felt able to be my full self, but on the other hand there is definitely a disconnect for a few reasons. One is that I live in a non-urban conservative area, and a lot of Pride stuff seems to default to urban and liberal. I've never been to a Pride parade - not because I want to but because there aren't any where I live. People forget those of us who live in the boonies I think - or they actively look down on us, which sucks. Sometimes the discourse feels so above my head - they're talking stores taking down their Pride decorations while I haven't even noticed the change because they NEVER do that here in the first place.

The other thing is that there was definitely a pushback towards asexuals specifically being considered LGBT a few years ago. Don't know the exact timeframe (I thankfully wasn't around online during that time) but the ripple effects can still be felt. I think the idea is that we were actually just heterosexual imposters in disguise or something - it's stupid - but it's made me very nervous about joining any LGBT groups. I always have to check to see if the LGBT+ actually includes the A, y'know? Add to that the fact that the LGBT community naturally talks a lot about sex and romance (understandable, I'm not trying to change it, on a logical and ideological level I think talking about these things frankly is good) and I can sometimes feel alienated there. Some LGBT people seem to think that sexual freedom means "everyone should have sex all the time" and like ... no. It means the freedom to choose whatever you want. If you're forcing something on me you're just as bad as everyone else.

21. What message would you give to your younger self?

Measure your life's value in happiness, not money.

28. Do you experience both romantic and sexual attraction? Do you experience them the same across any gender(s) you are attracted to?

I definitely do not have the sexual attraction, for anyone. I can tell generally when someone is supposed to be hot, but only because I've learned from experience what is socially accepted as "hot". I can definitely find people beautiful but it's in the same way I'd find a landscape beautiful - I want to stare at it, maybe I want to draw it, but nothing else. I've noticed I tend to find women beautiful more often than men; I don't know if that's because I'm more familiar with the biology, because women tend to dress up more due to societal pressures, or just a weird preference. But again, it never progresses beyond aesthetic appreciation and there have definitely been guys I like to look at too so it's not 100% reliable.

Romantic is harder. When you take out everything physical, I have a hard time telling the difference between a romance and a close friendship. I'm dense as a brick when people flirt with me because I literally cannot tell they're not just being friendly. I know I'm not upset by being single like some people seem to be, but I do get lonely without friends. There are people I want to get to know better and do stuff with - is that wanting friends? Romantic attraction? I DUNNO MAN! Most people do not seem to have this problem, so I assume I'm different and slap the aromantic label on myself. It works.

33. What about your LGBT identity do you feel proud of/want to recognize/celebrate?

I'm proud of my own independence when it comes to relationships. I don't need a significant other or a sexual partner to be "complete," contrary to what the world says. If you want those things, by all means, but for those people who are ace/aro, who aren't ready for a relationship, or are learning to just exist as themselves alone for the first time, I want to be living proof that it is possible to be happy on your own. You are not half of a person if you are single. You are a whole person. Just you is enough.

34. What are you needing most right now (what would make your life easier or more fulfilling in regards to existing as queer)?

I need a new wardrobe. Been having Gender Thoughts(TM) thanks in no small part to some of my mutuals going through it and I'm now realizing that a lot of my clothes don't really fit who I am in my head anymore. My family was kinda poor growing up and I learned not to waste things, so I have a lot of old clothes and hand-me-downs still left over, many of which are pretty classic feminine. I want to try getting some more masculine stuff and see how that feels. (if uh... if any of you have advice for going slightly more masc please let me know, this is new to me and I am confuzzled)

Living in an area where I don't see Trump 2024 signs, blue-line cop stuff, and Confederate flags every four feet would be nice too, but that's a longer-term goal.

“The Woods...” Lennox threw his stone. Unlike the past few stones, this one didn’t skip. Instead, the three of them watched it sink without so much as a bubble. “You don’t forget the fucking Woods.”

“What was it like?” MA asked, unable to help it. Riley gave her a look and she shrugged. Maybe there was something in there that would stop the Flower Queen.

Lennox plucked up a stone. “It was...it was nice. Even when it was rainy and cold and we had no idea where we would sleep for the night. It was always so pretty, like those autumn scenes you see in movies. You would find mansions out in the boonies or talking animals and it was really weird but I didn’t think anything was wrong.” He tossed the stone and it skipped three times. “Time there passes longer than it does here.” He paused in thought. “At least I think it does.”

“You think?”

He shrugged as he grabbed another stone. “I thought one week had gone by, but when I woke up I was being fished out the night I went in and they didn’t find Mabel until days later.”
