(putting this long and boring german law post here because it's trans-specific content)
Tumblr media
Prev tags are technically correct; The law still has to pass the Bundesrat, but the funky new trans law (called Selbstbestimmungsgesetz) is a so-called "Einspruchsgesetz" (=lit. "Objection Law"). This means that it's not special enough to potentially infringe on the rights or finances of the individual Bundesländer (=states). If it did, it would be a "Zustimmungsgesetz" (=lit. "Approval Law").
What this means, put about as simply as my bad-at-law-but-obligated-to-understand-parts-of-it-because-im-trans mind can, is this: - 'Zustimmungsgesetze' require explicit approval by the Bundesrat. If the Bundesrat does not approve, the law cannot pass. - 'Einspruchsgesetze', like this one, can be objected to by the Bundesrat, but this objection can be overruled by the Bundestag. (Who, as we recall, already passed the law, so the odds wouldn't be terrible) - In either case, the Bundesrat would order a re-evaluation of the law first, which could lead to changes to a law being suggested first, before the Bundesrat comes to a verdict. - Every law entering the Bundestag has already been discussed by the Bundesrat. We know their stances on every part of the law. We can tell that an objection to this law is highly unlikely.
Most importantly: - The Bundesrat has almost never made use of the option to object to an 'Einspruchsgesetz'.
If you're still here and interested in the numbers, let's look at the stats 1998-2021 (as the ones from 2021 onwards are still ongoing): During this period, the Bundesrat processed 1820 Einspruchsgesetze. It objected to 31 of those. That's 1.7% of laws objected to. Of these objections, 28 were overruled by the Bundestag. This means that only 3 'Einspruchsgesetze' were stopped by the Bundesrat. (all of them during the 1998-2002 period, btw)
In the two periods before this one, so from 2013-2021, the Bundesrat has not objected to a single Einspruchsgesetz. (I'm struggling a bit to decipher the numbers of the ongoing period, but if I'm reading them right, there has been no objection there either, which puts us on a 10+ year streak!)
TLDR: The Bundesrat is almost definitely going to pass the law without objection. We are getting new names and genders to go along with our weed!
(btw sorry to hear about your weed problems, bavarians, but that sounds like a skill issue)
Thinking about how Germany passed their highly anticipated new trans law less than two weeks after weed became legal

drew this while I was listening to Mel Robbins' podcast
Tumblr media
about the "let them" theory
instead of letting what other people do hold power over you and suck out your emotional energy, let them.
people are judging you? let them. your friend didn't respond to your message? let them. your cousins didn't show up to your birthday? let them. your ex is dating someone new? let them.
don't waste your energy worrying too much about whether someone is ignoring or badmouthing you or whatever, let them!
of course there are situations where you can't just "let them", like when someone is doing something dangerous.
if someone's doing something wrong, of course you should tell them that what they're doing isn't okay, but their decision or the way they react after isn't something you control, and that's when you just let them.
(personally this theory helped me stop overthinking, hopefully it can help you too)

If media has taught me one thing, it's to never own a paperweight capable of causing traumatic brain injury.
My dad owned a heavy glass paperweight once that tapered into a sturdy sharp point on the top, and the fact that no one was murdered with this at all before his retirement from the lawfirm is the surest proof I have that this reality is in fact not fiction.

Law and Order Criminal Intent - s02e16 - Cuba Libre Suspect: Bastards! The bastards are striking at everyone I love, and you're doing nothing to stop them. Goren: Them? Suspect: My enemies, you idiot! I'm the target. Goren: You know, it looks like he's the one that took all the bullets. Suspect: Jack Duvall was only important because of his relationship to me.  Goren and Eames turn and walk away. Eames: How’d he ever get the impression people don’t like him?

sometimes being autistic is watching/playing something, getting hyperfixated on it, then basically saying "wait why am I hyperfixated on what amounts to an animated/visual novel legal drama"

@kaizokugaris asked: Smash or pass x drake Smash or Pass

"Smash," Law says with a smirk. "I think the dino dude could be fun and I'd really enjoy messin' with him." Yes, he has noted how easy it is to make Drake blush.

Every time some science fact is mentioned and it's something that was discovered thanks to the help or invention of your country and you die a little for the lack of acknowledgment
Anyway if you’re from the US and you ever wanted to know what tumblr feels like from a non-USAmerican perspective (please note that the rest of the world is not a monolith either and none of these apply without exception):
Everybody’s talking about brands and stores you’ve never seen in real life. You generally assume they exist, but they might as well be one giant prank the rest of the internet is in on.
You find a post that just sounds wrong. It makes no sense. It’s like OP lives in a weird alternate reality. 9/10 times, it’s just some USAmerican Thing.
You’re still not entirely sure how much an inch is. Or a foot. Or even how many of the former there are in the latter. You maybe know your height in feet and inches.
You have no idea how much a pound is. You’d also like to know how the fuck pound shortens to lbs.
What the fuck is “military time”
Somebody talks about some legal process or something similar. They don’t mention which country’s legal system this pertains to. You know anyway.
People talk about politics. None of it pertains to you. Many posts contain guilt tripping. “How can you not care about this?? Why won’t you reblog this?? People need to know this about x candidate for y position!” You’re busy trying to stay on top of the political landscape in your own country.
You pick up some random slang from the internet. Monkey see monkey do. You’re called racist. You didn’t know it was AAVE. You learnt it from black letters on white background, not from the mouths of people whose faces you could see. How would you have known? You try to unlearn it.
People tell you that you must publicly denounce Chick-fil-A or you’re homophobic. You don’t even know what a Chick-fil-A is.
People say you don’t know LGBTQ+ history. What they mean is you don’t know USAmerican LGBTQ+ history. Nobody cares about your country’s history.
You’re “called out” on using an “offensive” term. It’s (a direct translation of) a completely harmless word where you live.
People expect you to have an idea of how far apart 2 USAmerican states are. You barely know geography past your country’s immediate neighbors.
You randomly switch between British and American spellings. Nothing’s real and there are no rules.
People talk about multiple hour car rides and you get twitchy just thinking about it. You suddenly understand why USAmerican cars are so big.
Somebody talks about school shooting drills. You only ever had fire alarm drills.
You see a cool statistic. The study’s only about the US. It’s unfortunately of no use to you.
People misuse/misspell words and names from your native language. It’s tiring.
(You feel sorry for the French. Nobody should be allowed to mangle the word déjà vu like that.)
You’re still not over the fact that USAmerican school children are supposed to say that pledge thing every morning. You’re never getting over that.
You still don’t know why the men are fresh or what the fuck a sophomore is.
Who the fuck pays up first and then fills up gas??? That’s made up, right??
Everybody has a weird obsession with some comfort food you’d never even heard of before you signed up here.
Fellow non-USAmericans, please add anything else you can think of.
#in the tags just because I want to compare#hell measurements are never going to make sense#temperature either#you always know the one that does not clarify ''the law'' is from US the rest of us say 'in my country'#I reblog some issued about US but it's purely because I think if they go through the countries like mine that have people trying to...#imitate ''better'' countries are going to get worse (like mine I wish it wasn't like that)#I try to not use slang for that reason#I know so much about US queer history is boring at this point#I need to learn more about our own history (which is awesome sometimes you know)#firts country with same sex marriage in latin America let's goooo#between cities is usual here to travel for hours#on the same city is too much unless is a big city so that's a little more understandable#but yeah the US is so damn big#I don't think we even have an evacuation plan at all stuff like that just doesn't happen#statics 🙄 infuriating#if y'all are going to use words from my language please learn the language#we do sing to our flag but I don't think is literally a pledge (nobody actually sang tbh)#baby the school years change from province to province you think I can understand the system of another country?????#I do understand the food thing but not the food choices#yeah I'm trying to learn more about the politics of my country because we have to vote this year 🙄#every time someone from my country is in an US video I go ''oh god what????'' and it only happens once a year#y'all treating cities like enemies we have countries that go ''my brother!!!!!!'' here

Thinking about her... spec bio
I love seeing all these specbio doodles and stuff. And I wanna incorporate my own stuff into a story....
so what if u thought about what aliens looked like so hard u made a super advanced computer to try and predict what they might be.
but then it got stuck trying to generate this one world in wayyy too much detail. and eventually it starts creating animals on its own instead of just data. And eventually u got a whole planet in a computer and you're a god now oops.

I think it is funny that when I make Crow posts, I have people "um, actually"-ing me like I haven't been obsessed with this order since like 2012 when I played Origins and Zevran failed to kill my idiot ass

ive been reading too much ace attorney fanfic and its sort of pissing me off, apparently im a bit of a snob. if i had more time id be very tempted to write a case fic which goes uncharacteristically into legal details and technical stuff, but make it actually accurrate to the correct system
#swear the majority of these people havent even heard of a civil law system#not that i know a lot about it but thatd be the point id actually research it#not that its really tonally accurrate with the original but its a fanfic and tbh i actually enjoy that sort just not when its wtong#even though its not accurate to the original it still feels sort of realistic and easier to relate to them as people when they#do normal boring everyday stuff everyone does like go to the shops or take the bus#even though detailed descriptions are boring i like when theres i bit and technical legal or beurocratic stuff feels similar#is a bit difficult when you dont even know what city but make that generic i suppose#i always assumed it was a smaller city from the anime and what we see but i cant actually tell#anyway id even want to write it to just put normal everyday life stuff in that everyone gets wrong and i already know about#that one person who apparently hadnt heard of bike racks? have you ever visited a city in your life?#how health insureance works. ie nationalised and mandatory.#the existence of busses and trains and possibly trams depending. though lots of cities dont have any local trains even#and i hate cash only busses#and no ic card trains come on#not like im from a country where thats the norm for almost all trains or anything. but id got used to not having to buy tickets all the time#well at least theres no cash only busses here thats one thing the uk has. though actually i think i prefer when its cash but cheaper#逆転裁判

i dont know how to put tags in the main post so I'm just putting your tags in my tags
because maybe this is Tumblr reading comprehension but I'm gonna be so for real it took me until reading the tags to actually realize your argument was against the idea that you can put a halt to genai by just. speaking out with no real action. which is a stance I absolutely agree with. but i got to the end of this post and thought you were arguing against anti - ai sentiment in general 😭 i think your tags really add to the discussion
You can't argue against a technology. No one has ever, ever, in the history of humanity, argued a technology out of existence. The closest we've come are nukes and human genetic engineering. Nukes exist and multiple countries have massive arsenals of them, but we've agreed not to use them because it would mean humanity's utter destruction. Human genetic engineering cuts right to the heart of a bunch of ethical questions about health, equality, identity, and so on, and also up until very recently genetic engineering has been a long and extremely expensive process. We'll see how long human genetic engineering remains taboo now that it's getting cheaper and easier. But these are absolute outliers. In the vast, vast majority of cases, I mean literally in virtually every single case, when people fight a new technology—for any reason—they loose.
There is no tenable "anti-AI art" position, just like there was never a tenable anti-loom position, or anti-railroad position, or anti-horseless carriage position. These things were doomed to fail absolutely from day one, as soon as the technology existed, and anti-AI art is doomed to fail just as utterly and completely. There is just no path here, if this is what you've hitched your wagon to I really do not know what to tell you.
#if we want to tackle the problems exacerbated by gen ai then we have to focus on the problems exacerbated by gen ai#yelling about betraying 'real art' is easy and makes you feel smart but it's pointless#the tech is here and it has no unique problems it just makes existing scams much easier to pull#I'm sorry but defeating the Big Evil AI Technology isn't a matter of mobbing people on twitter for using it to make bad webcomics#it's a long boring matter of improving worker protections and rights#of enshrining people's rights to their voice and appearance data and improving their rights over their biometric data#it's long detailed really annoying discussions about minute details in copyright legislation#it's anti-scam laws that probably won't even mention the word AI becuase these scams are also committed without AI they're just slower#it's consumer protection laws holding companies responsible for the promises their AI “customer service officers” make to customers#if you want to boycott stuff that uses genAI then that can have some limited effect -- all the writers in my writing groups refuse t use#AI covers whether or not they have strong opinions on AI because they make the books look cheap and most readers won't buy them#but at some point you gotta focus on the real problems and not imagine you can fight convenience with The Power Of Being A Real Artist#< prev tags#i can sit here (and have) for hours and argue about what constitutes art and why ai art doesn't fit the bill and why people who make ai#images are not entitled to the credit for them#but i very much acknowledge that the most real change this can possibly make is convince some people to stop using genai
