Headcanon time 

The resurrection shrine took its toll on Link’s body, and when he slept he crashed in botw. By the time he started having regular sleep and dreams, the calamity was over and they were at peace. He still had nightmares, but they were few and easy to overcome with Zelda nearby. 

In totk, though, he has dreams every single night. Many are good, but an equal number aren’t. He has his own nightmares. Now that they’re sharing some of their body, he has some of Rauru’s nightmares. Zelda is trying to connect with him, and he ends up having some of her nightmares. At first he thinks they may be visions, or memories, or signs, but he soon realizes they really are just dreams that jolt him awake.

Okay so since I’m a total Bazz fanatic, and I struggle with nightmares (totally didn’t just wake up from one whaaaat nooo) can we have some headcanons or a ficlet of Bazz comforting his s/o after a nightmare?

Of course! I hope you'll find these a good comfort, or at least a distraction, and I hope the nightmares stay away for a long time. <33

Headcanons about Bazz's sleep, s/o nightmares

Bazz is a light sleeper (being trained to become alert at a moment's notice in case of a threat will do that to you), so he tends to notice right away if his s/o is restless or having disturbed sleep.

He also tends to be a fixer. If you have a problem and Bazz knows about it, he will want to solve it. That might mean sometimes he wants to talk through things before you're ready; the concept of "just hold me and be quiet for now" doesn't always sit well with him. He'll give affection any time you ask it of him, but he doesn't always see how that's what you needed vs. an impromptu talk therapy session.

If your nightmare feels real and you're convinced your attacker/stalker/monster is out there somewhere, he will order and lead a search of the immediate area ASAP, no matter how much he might be teased for it later. The other Zora guards just be shaking their heads like, "Ah, Hylia. Y/N had a damn nightmare again and now Bazz is off his rocker."

He doesn't leave you alone while he's out leading a search. He always has a trusted friend sit with you -- maybe even the beloved Zora prince himself, because Sidon is always eager to lend a helping hand against both real and imagined threats. (Even if he is busy, he can always sign decrees and do his work while keeping a close eye on you.)

Post-BOTW/pre-TOTK Hateno house headcanons:

Zelda falls in love with the house. It needs work, but it has a homely feeling that she loves

She also loves that it's small, unlike the castle, and she doesn't have to be surrounded by nobles, guards, maids etc.

She cries when she sees the picture with all the Champions. Link tells her he can remove it if she wants, but she actually loves having that memory there, so it stays

They decide to return the Champions' weapons to their people

On their tour to return them, Zelda takes pictures of people they encounter and landscapes she loves, which she later hangs in the house

They encounter a golden horse near Taobab Grassland that starts following Zelda around after she gives him an apple. She takes a picture of him to hang in the house (and keeps the horse because she found him cute and he isn't tied to her past royal life)

Once they make it to Tarrey Town, Zelda asks Hudson if he could build them some furniture. Duh

By the time they arrive in Hateno they have so much stuff to decorate the house: pots, Hudson's furniture, fabric...

Zelda spends a week arranging and rearranging everything. Link helps her, of course

After the decoration is done, Zelda ends up being so tired she sleeps for 12hrs straight

While she sleeps, Link goes for a morning walk and gets her some pretty flowers he found on the way

Zelda loves them and puts them in a vase on their table

Link retrieves all her clothes and books that survived the Calamity

And that's how Zelda considers herself settled. Little by little, they build a routine

Link always wakes up earlier. He likes doing exercise before breakfast

He always has a hearty breakfast. Zelda prefers some fruits and yoghurt

Zelda spends most days researching and planning how to rebuild Hyrule

Link spends most days hunting, gathering and taking care of the house, Zelda and himself

Link cooks every meal. On sunny and warm days they eat in the garden. During Winter they eat close to the fire

After some time, Zelda commissions a secret study room because Link is a big distraction

That doesn't stop him from visiting her every once in a while to give her fruitcake

Sometimes she falls asleep while researching and Link scoops her up and takes her to their bed

When she's not so tired, Zelda likes reading in bed before going to sleep

They both have terrible nightmares that wake them up in the middle of the night. But now it's manageable because they have each other

Sometimes, when she walks past the picture, she stops and prays for the Champions' souls

[Extra hc: Zelda's new horse is a glutton and if he sees Zelda or Link in the garden he won't stop neighing until they give him an apple. Or two.]

BOTW Link headcanons

[no TOTK spoilers! but when I finish the game it's over for you bitches (update I finished the game but still not spoiling here lmao)]

I think Link isn't mute but definitely dislikes speaking, so he only speaks when he really has to.

He's very good at hiding when he's struggling with something or not feeling well, so people always think he's okay (people also tend to think he's emotionless because of his poker face but he's completely oblivious to it)

He used to know hylian sign language, but after his 100 years of sleepy time he forgot, so he picked up signs and code from different regions of Hyrule. He eventually relearns hylian sign but still uses the other stuff he learnt by reflex.

Boy looooves horses. He likes to sneak up on wild horses just to give them apples and carrots.

So much autism in this man.

you see how he always just has the master sword in the memories? yeah. he's an extremely skilled moron and prefers just having his sword rather than having a shield and bow alongside it, even if it's more practical and safer.

will eat anything. that's basically canon tho.

even after recovering his memories, he isn't sure how he used to think about the champions and Zelda. he knows he has strong feelings for all of them (he deeply wants to protect Zelda for instance) but like he has no idea if he loved Mipha back or if Revali annoyed him like he annoyed Revali. He's clueless.

He has a lot of scars and doesn't know where half of them come from.

After the calamity, he still sometimes has memory problems. He mainly has very bad short term memory and tends to forget what day it is, what week etc (no I'm not projecting)

He gets small flashbacks sometimes, some even look like very intense déjà vu because he'll like get a flashback of flying with his paraglider while actually flying with his paraglider.

He really likes his blue tunic. Its comfy and protects him, and it felt like a gift when he got it (when Impa gave it back to him)

He gets nightmares a lot, night terrors and sleep paralysis too, so he doesn't sleep much. He often just hangs out during the night and waits until he physically can't stay up anymore to sleep. (Zelda is so stressed out by this man he's giving her white hair. She tries to help but doesn't really know how).

he has intense panic attacks surrounding guardian stalkers, (unless they don't have legs). sometimes he's able to push back the panic until he's defeated or escaped the thing but other times he just falls to his knees in front of it, completely unable to function. he wasted a couple of fairies on these instances.

he collects flowers. silent princesses of course, for zelda, but he likes every type of flowers and loves to keep them and offer them to people or leave them on gravestones or near goddess statues.

he really likes his long hair, likes styling it and playing with it. he would hate to cut it

his eyes are really sensible to light from you know. being asleep for 100 years with his eyes closed

I said he loves horses but he honestly loves all animals. always pets doggies and likes to watch crabs dance around. he feeds animals when he can.

when he defeats monsters that were using horses, he brings the horse back to the closest stable or the closest patch of grass that looks safe and soothes them. also feeds them obv.

1. Star

(From "Virli's Story", one of my LoZ "The Realm Walker" fics. Virli is a member of Revali's tribe of Rito so looks similar to him, but with orange-red feathers, no cheek tufts, and a shorter crest. She has blue eyes and a pair of white dots on her face near where Revali's red spots are. Also her "hair" is braided in a single braid that splits into four at the end.)

Virli’s flight group closes in on the Korikitan Market, and right off the bat their plan is in need of adjustment.  Below, a group of soldiers on horseback approach the monster horde, the black armor with red embossed patterns and horsehair decorated helmets are a clear sign that they’re from Yosikun’s Imperial Army. And if that wasn’t enough, many soldiers have banners attached to their backs, rectangular flags with a diagonal separation of colors, dark slate gray on the bottom and dark red on the top, with the bright red circular emblem of Diryen (De-rye-in), the Alliance’s counterpart to the Goddess Din.  There’s also a single gold four-point star at the top left of the banners, some kind of unit marking probably…

2. Eye

(From "The Long Nightmare", Revali's century long ordeal of being possessed by Ganon. He's just lost to Windblight...)

The creature hovers over Revali, making sickening gurgling noises.  Revali closes his eyes and waits for its cannon to burn through his flesh, “Dad, I guess I’ll see you soon…  Mom, please, stay strong…” Revali can still hear the gurgling, why hasn’t it finished him?!  He opens his eyes and glares at the beast, “Well, what are you waiting for?!  Go ahead!  Finish me already!” It just looks at him with that damned, pulsating Guardian eye.  “What, you want to gloat over me?  You want me to beg for my life or something?!  Fuck you!  You can’t defeat all of us!  Daruk or Urbosa or Mipha will send you back to whatever hell you crawled out of!”

3. Call

(From "The Ballad of Kass", where Kass and Rinili have sneaked into Gerudo village. They're wearing Rito lady clothes, but with the Gerudo veil, since Kass' crest is a male trait in my headcanon. Kass has a green hood and veil while Rinili's is red. Rinili is midnight blue with light blue legs (like Saki) and has four long ornamental tail feathers that he's cleverly tucked into a sash so they think they're part of an outfit instead of his body.)

Kass and Rinili make their way up the staircase and are blocked from entering when the guards cross their spears across the entranceway. The one on the left demands, “State your business vure.” Kass knows enough Gerudo to be insulted.  Yes, he IS a bird, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t rude to call a Rito that out of the blue.  Although, he’s diplomatic enough to let it slide, Kalia would likely have started an incident had she been sent!

4. Dark

(From "Ildia's Story" where Ildia, TP Link and Midna's daughter, first sees the sorry state of Hyrule Castle. She's wearing plate mail armor that's black with glowing blue lines. She has a bright orange ponytail and mismatched eyes, left is blue and right is red, while the whites of her eyes have a hint of yellow. She's standing on a rock near the quarry area in BotW.)

From the top of the rock Ildia can see the huge castle.  It’s like something out of a nightmare! The castle is surrounded by massive black stone pillars with purple lights emerging from the ground and the ruins of a town are in front of the castle, the entire scene surrounded by an ominous, dark aura.  She pulls out what looks like a bird mask, the Hawkeye tool her father once used.  She looks around the ruins: little more than piles of rubble where buildings once stood, more of those machines patrolling, pools of ominous purple and black slime, some of those pools have spike like structures sticking out of them. 

5. When

(From "The Azure Phoenix", where Revali's talking with Bedoli and Laissa after waking up from the coma he fell into after Link and Mipha freed him. He's sitting up on the floor of their roost, naked with a blanked wrapped around him. He's just learned that Link and Mipha are still in the village.)

Revali’s genuinely surprised, not so much by Mipha staying, it’s totally understandable that she would stay being the kind soul that she is.  But Link?  Why would he stay when he needs to rescue Daruk and Urbosa?!  It’s not like he and Link were friends, perhaps he didn’t want to leave Mipha alone here.  Then again, Link’s odds of succeeding in rescuing Daruk and Urbosa rise considerably if he has help from the greatest archer Hyrule has ever known...

LU Deepest Fear Headcanons 2

Here are lu fear headcanons that I couldn’t fit in the last post. These are more like worries or less intense fears that the chain have (apart from the Wind fanfic idea at the bottom. If this has been done pls let me know in the comments). 

The link to part one is at the bottom with a few others. 

Warrior doesn’t inherently have a problem with women. He’ll show off a bit when he feels like it, chat them up and even playfully flirt. It’s the persistent ones who take the flirting too seriously and won’t take no for an answer that make him uneasy. There’s also a certain...’type’ that he’ll avoid even if they don’t even so much as look his way.

Warrior and Twilight have had bad experiences with fire. Our Captain had that fight with Volga in the first stage of HW which gave him those burn scars and Wolfie was chased out of his own village by people he knows and loves who were wielding flaming torches and pitchforks (not an in game thing, but it’s how I’ve always imagined it).

In BoTW you can’t go underwater. This may change come BoTW 2, but can I interpret this as Wild not liking to keep his head underwater for extended periods of time? Either due to something traumatic before the Calamity or as just a lighthearted quirk of his (like if for whatever reason he doesn’t open his eyes when swimming underwater).

Legend shuts out Koholint Island in his memories. It’s existence really confusing, because I myself don’t know it was real or not (tbf I haven’t finished Link’s Awakening). Therefore, I’ll headcanon that Legend doesn’t really know what the deal is with Koholint either. As a reasonable, logical and (thanks to his experiences) slightly cynical person, he’ll lean towards it all being a dream and the island not actually being real. But there’s unsureness in that conclusion, and that constant back and forth is what tears him up inside.

Time is still a little freaked out by Redeads and the undead in general. His experience exploring the Shadow Temple messed him up a little. Seeing the horrific acts the Sheikah committed under the orders of the Royal Family, would have made him realise that they are not the perfect rulers he thought they were. He’d have a distrust of the Sheikah and probably saw Sheik in a new light until they were revealed to be Zelda which just messes up thing further to him.

Wind has had to deal with Redeads too. And those terrifying zombie-like things have a less than savory habit of wrapping themselves around you and biting into your skull. That would traumatise the dickens out of anyone! I headcanon that he has scars from those encounters, maybe even bald patches from scar tissue, and since those aren’t fond memories he hides them as to not have to tell/remember that story. Not to mention that nightmare inducing awful scream! Time has had...well time, to move past this and so probably isn’t affected, but LU takes place a year or so after WW and PHG for Wind, so it’s still going to be fresh in his mind.

I need a short story where the chain encounters Redeads again. Wild acts all confident, telling them what to do- with Time and Warrior watching him proudly- and gets all hyped to fight them. However, upon hearing their scream he freezes up in terror and completely breaks down mentally while the others go ahead with the plan and protect him. Only for for him to spring into action when it looks like one of the chain are gonna get their heads chomped on. Then they talk it over and he shows them his scars (maybe Time has scars like that too and shows those), allowing him to start moving past it. -someone please write it or I will myself

Does incredibles au wild ever have memories/flashbacks/ dissociation ( depending on the headcanon) like he does in game or in Lu?

Ah you’ve stumbled across a bit of a grey area I haven’t totally fleshed out!

So the answer is a pretty solid “maybe”. I think he might have some kind of dissociative disorder, at least a bit, since he has absolutely zero memory of anything that happened in his life before he was adopted by Time and Malon. He was only 4-5 at that point, so him not remembering much isn’t too surprising, but he also doesn’t remember how he got his scars at all. Except for nightmares that he doesn’t remember after he wakes up.

So I guess that would maybe be some level of dissociative amnesia then. But he definitely doesn’t have memory loss to the extent of anything in botw/lu, and I don’t know that he has flashbacks or anything either... unless he does when he gets older?

And then I start thinking about him when he’s older, and I’ve had the thought that giving him some sort of memory problem when he’s grown up (or, you know, 17 or so) would make sense. But then that begs the question of how much does he forget?

Is it like in botw where he loses everything? Or just some parts, like anything relating to his powers/being a super hero? Does he remember his family? Or just some of them? How about Flora? The champions? I still haven’t figured out quite how they fit in. Is it permanent memory loss, or does he recover? How does he lose them? Do I stick him in a coma? For how long???

So you see my problem XD

But anyway to answer your initial question, he definitely has some slight memory problems. I haven’t totally decided the extent (especially when (or if) he’s older), but he has some.

16.) A childhood headcanon

ohh... ok bear with me. i think the whole chosen hero / heros spirit thing manifested in her when she was young, and it Fucked Him Up. made him a super weird (/neu) kid. like... parents would find them sleepwalking, holding their hands to their face like they were playing an ocarina or crawling around on all fours like a dog. went genuinely, completely mute for about two months at one point. started drawing weird shit like giant beasts with black scales and pedestals sticking out of their foreheads on Every Feasbile Surface. kept trying to run off to the lost woods (but didnt know thats where she was going, just that something was pulling him there and he NEEDED to go). got worse for a week after they pulled the sword at 12 and went bedridden, and then the nightmares and strange behaviors just... stopped. if anyone mentioned it when he was older, he'd seem pretty confused because he swears she doesnt remember any of that, besides pulling the sword and waking up some time later. (and yet, after the shrine of resurrection, she STILL occasionally gets nightmares and still finds himself sleepwalking once in a blue [red?] moon. not much else, though. :] ). on a lighter note, i think he was tall as shit for her age, barely hit 5'2 at like, age 11, and then. stopped growing. forever

26.) When do you think they were being "themselves" the most?

honestly whenever they let themselves get a lil silly. i.e. the seal puns, ("you seem suspicious, mister!") "thats me. suspicious." and other notable dialogue options like "youre imagining things" "youre having fun." "i am he" "SURE!" etc. link is a very restrained person imo and i think this is a Deliberate Choice he makes at all times. but thats not in their nature, so what happens is someone will be, like. "oh no! my cart of apples rolled away!" and she'll say "I'll handle it." when her first thought was actually "oh is THIS overturned cart of apples yours?" followed almost immediately by "oh my god i cant say that"

DAY 3 (ROMANTIC F/Os) - Link

(so far I've usually included a summary of how my s/i and f/o meet, but summarizing how Koci and Link meet/grow close through both BOTW and TOTK would take AGES even if I condense it fjdhfj so this one's just headcanons/tidbits instead)

💖 I like to think that Link picks up the lost woods melody he hums while cooking from Koci. He heard her sing it as they gathered materials in a nearby stretch of trees, and Koci catches him humming it sometimes and finds it adorable. He also eventually picks up the Minuet of Forest (although that one's not in the game gkdhg)

💖 The image of Koci waking up from a recurring nightmare during their travels, and a groggy but concerned Link pushing himself awake and climbing over to her to hold her close and lull her back to sleep. that's all

💖 Deku Babas are not in either Wild-era game but I headcanon that they’re native to the Lost Woods and that they are edible - they have very tough but very flavorful meat, and it’s one of Koci’s favorite foods. After she describes it to Link one day he immediately makes it a point to find a Deku Baba and eat it kdjfg

💖 okay this one's less of a headcanon and more just thinking out loud. I always imagined Koci and Link shared the house in Hateno during BOTW. But it's canon that between BOTW and TOTK, Zelda lives in that house. how awkward would that be. are you telling me the whole time it's just like

Link is very protective of you (due to his past life having to save Aryll) and sometimes he can be just as anxious as you if you’re not near him

He has a bad habit of spoiling you sometimes, he sure does get an earful from Zelda whenever he does. 

Hylia have mercy for any monsters in the vicinity of you!

To be honest if you ever threw a tantrum he would shut down almost completely, he wouldn’t know what to do at all!

But if you ever had an anxiety attack he would wrap himself around you and wait it out. Words cannot express how much he knows what you’re going through. He's insanely grateful you won't ever have to know the feeling of the whole world depending on you to save it.  

Unfortunately being under the care of him would put you at insanely high expectations from everyone. He feels really really guilty about that. 

If it's one of those days where everyone can’t just be quiet about how strong you’d get or how great of a guard you’d be, he takes you to the great hyrule forest and tells you stories about his adventures leading up to the calamity. 

His primary way of communication is through hyrulean sign language but on some days he talks to you, thought it is short phrases

If it's one of those days where you're convinced something is coming after you or you had a nightmare he’d go around with his sword and telling you in the most playful guard tone that he couldn't find anything during his sweep around the campsite.

He loves cooking with you! and carrying you, and playing games with you, and taking you places.

Link is always gonna be there to protect you no matter what and he wants you as safe as possible and he loves being your guardian! 💚

I like to think that after the ending of totk, link needs a full reset. the pressure he had needed to full fill twice in his life because of the deities prophecies are finnaly finalised. He is free, he is link again and not the hero.

So i find that link actually needs to be gone, just erased from the face of the earth, just him and sleep. Because honestly i felt his pressures playing the game especially after seeing what zelda had done and how much more that elevated the pressure, i felt the stress. And after having a pretty rough time with ganondorf, and the entire final scenery of chaos. I really went straight towards my akkala house and just made link sleep 😭 no sages in the neighborhood, just him and his bed.

This may change as we get more information and is definitely why I speak so little about BotW and that era’s Gordonsmorf. But I’m finally attacking the last of the DLC I never finished, exactly six year later, to try and manifest hype for Zelda. 

And Kass sang something that stood out to me.

Lightning king of the desert. 

This obviously refers to Urbosa, and to a much lesser extent, Naboris itself.

But...

Yeah. The camel’s the lightning king. 😒

Personally I have a headcanon, since his moms both have an elemental motif, fire and ice, that it makes sense for Ganondorf to use electricity. It seems to ALWAYS be his go-to when it comes to playing a rousing game of Dead-Man’s Volley and when taking into consideration how it wasn’t until after Ganondorf fell out of favor with his own people have we started to see his own people take interest in utilizing his own magic to thrive.  Was it not used out of respect? Did he actually throw a tantrum and say the Gerudo couldn’t use lightning magic? In Ocarina of Time, the only other Gerudo we see utilize magic are Twinrova’s halves, until Nabooru is rescued and awakened... Could they have been barred from using magic at all? In order to maintain a need for a leader that cares oh, so much about their well-being?

This is definitely headcanon territory, but I can’t imagine hearing a song describe a divine beast and its champion, built by the people that are sworn to protect and aid the people he’s targeted his fiery hatred for for centuries and piloted by a Gerudo woman whose worthiness was deemed only by those he hated definitely plays into his unchecked feelings of godhood and fury towards having been left behind by a world that has long, long, long forgotten about him. 

I hope with ALL of my body we see a glimpse of Ganondorf’s inner conflict with the Gerudo leaving him behind. I’m not a fan of it, but it still seems like a perfect opportunity to re-humanize Ganondorf after what the nightmare that was Skyward Sword did to him.

Sky or Wild for the character ask?

Hi Sister! Thank you for the ask! Picked Wild because I was playing BOTW last night xD

First impression: BOTW is my favourite game ever and how I discovered LU, so Wild was initially the character I was here for. I loved and still love his blend of adventurous, adaptable, and so much reckless energy, with loss, loneliness and angst, and his character design is just perfect.

Impression now: I still love Wild but he’s not my favourite character anymore. I find it much harder to write him now because I’m more aware of how nuanced he is as a character – ie, he’s not just me playing BOTW. I think the biggest shift is not seeing him as so secretive and slow to trust and introverted as I initially did – I think Wild likes people, he finds them interesting, he’d try to learn everything he could about them and make friends easily.

Favourite moment: the doodle Nightmares. IT’S SO SWEET HOW HE FALLS ASLEEP ON WOLFIE, there’s so much trust between them and I love that the Hero of the Wild’s strongest relationship is with a wolf.

Idea for a story: don’t have any strong/developed Wild-centric ideas currently but he’s an important character in a couple of WIPs focused on other Links. I really want to write more Sky and Wild content at some point and also something ANYTHING about koroks…

Unpopular opinion: can I skip this question I just end up overthinking it there are so many opinions about Wild in the fandom I don’t know what counts as popular/unpopular anymore? I guess just that while I love him and his character arc in Sunset has been awesome, I’d like to swing back and see what’s happening to some of the others by this point. Is this unpopular?

Favourite relationship: Used to be Twilight because they have such a perfect brother dynamic and I love it. But one of the fun things about Wild is that pairing him with anyone tends to reveal so much about both of them. I love his relationship with Hyrule which I already mentioned here, and also Sky. Mostly because I associate them both with defying gravity, and there’s all the first hero-last hero and Master Sword angst underlying everything…

Favourite headcanon: Wild has a mirror personality. He can adapt and channel the traits, habits, roles, personalities of others if that’s what the situation requires. I think he probably does this with Twilight and Sidon’s especially. It’s partly a kind of cultural flexibility developed during his adventures, related to picking up languages really fast.

WAHHH THANK YOU. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU AS WELL !! honestly i'm just hoping to be here more. i am notorious for being on a blog for 2 weeks and then disappearing into the motivation - less void for several months, rinse and repeat, so i'd really just like to be more consistent and active in the new year. i'm hoping that will be easy with the new game coming out. new content for me to parse through and rip apart will ( hopefully ) keep me fueled for a while.

beyond that, i'd also like to reach out to people more. anxiety is a nightmare, but i've recently started engaging with people i've admired from a mutual's distance for a while and it's been !! so rewarding !! so, yeah ! i wanna keep doing that.

as for IN CHARACTER stuff, i can't really think of anything specific i'd want to thread, but there are a lot of thoughts i eventually want to get out on paper or otherwise explore. things like link's family and his upbringing pre - calamity ( i have so many lengthy headcanon posts just sitting unfinished in my drafts, it's bonkers ), and i want to do a deep dive into how his personality now reflects so much of who he was before he pulled the sword ( something something botw is about rediscovering your inner child or whatever ). i'm sure i'll have more specific things i want to do once we have more info about the sequel and its plot, but until then i'm pretty content just seeing where the muse takes me !
