i’ve read this piece from @painsandconfusion and my evil walnut sized brain was like: idea

cw: nails, screws, needles inside body, broken ribs, broken kneecaps, blood, nail gun, begging, impalement, mild gore

• whumper taking a hammer and hammering nails (or needles) into whumpees thighs, or taking one nail and hammering it into whumpees ribs, taking it out after each rib, breaking them one by one, whumpee can’t take one breath without their whole chest hurting, the blood running over their torso (and maybe into their lungs if they take a long nail, coughing up blood?), the screams with every nail

• alternatively hammering nails into whumpees kneecaps or just smashing them without nails

• alternatively whumper taking a screwdriver and driving screws into whumpees thighs, each more painful than the last

• nail guns, shoots nails inside body parts, easy concept, much hurt, less work, also no blood because the nails are stuck very tightly into the skin, but after pulling them out, the blood would be oozing out of the wounds

• hammering nails through their hands, to pin them to the wall or to the floor

• restrained whumpee begging whumper to please take the nails out, whumper leaving them in, with every move whumpee feels the nails painfully shift

• whumper doing acupuncture with a hammer and needles, relishing in whumpees pain saying “i’ve seen people doing it in movies. are you relaxed yet, whumpee?”

• maybe infection if unclean, rusty nails are used

please add more if you have more ideas in mind, anyhoo, nails = good, i always like to see it.

Just wanted to mention this to someone who does art and get their opinion on it:

Sometimes I see some artists do redraws of their old artworks or characters and think "Wow, uh... their older art looks better." Sometimes it's only mildly better, but other times it's vastly better. Like the Upgrade, Go Back! meme.

I understand that art skills are supposed to develop and change, hopefully for the better, but sometimes it just feels like they got... worse? Somehow? Idk. Maybe it's because they were copying another artist's style while finding their own, and it's their own style that doesn't vibe with me? Just curious what your thoughts are about this.

Also, your art has consistently been great, so this isn't directed at you.

I do see this on occasion yeah! usually (in my experience anyway) its because people take a sharp turn towards a stylization that either isn't to your or most people's tastes, or that they don't understand or are still developing. switching up how you stylize your art is like starting over in a sense, you're changing from what you have practice with and that's always going to cause you to revert some as you have to re-learn things you understood in your previous style. i had a pretty big style shift in 2014 when i took up the basis for how my art looks now, and i remember feeling like some of the stuff i was drawing might have looked better if i was using my older style instead. that's something artists just have to push through and figure out, and they'll likely come out of it a better artist than they were before. constructive critiques are a good way for them to figure out why their art might not be as "good" as it used to be, if they're open for those.

art is not always a linear journey, and i would also say things like passion and motivation have a part in it too. feeling inspired sparks you to make something the best it can be, if you're not feeling it (and esp if that feeling lasts for a long time) it'll leave you making decisions you otherwise would not have let fly, and that can result in worse art. and some of it is just personal preference! it's not that their art is better or worse, it's just different now, and maybe that doesn't vibe with you the same way their old stuff did. and that's fine 👍

Mal gave him a slightly wide eyed look, a hand clamped over a wound in his shoulder, before nodding his head in thanks.

Book had broken a few promises in his lifetime but there was one he would never break.

A Shepherd always looked after his flock. No matter what.

I have a character who has had a knee injury in the past and it still effects him sometimes. My dilemma is what kind of knee injuries would be long-term/ able to linger around this long? The most i’m thinking time wise is 2-4 years ago, is that accurate?

I can give it a go, but bear with my limited knowledge on this one. I can offer starting points more than anything: 

Dislocations would be a good start - a bad dislocation that could've left nerve damage behind/had to have surgery on may result in lasting difficulties.

A broken knee could be easily as useful.

Botched surgeries!

Shattered kneecap which resulted in a fake one being put in in it’s place? These can take 3-6 months to heal apparently, and if your whumpee rushes this, they could be jeopardising their healing process. 

General stabbing: again muscle and nerve damage as a result and scar tissue that leaves pain behind. 

Old muscle injuries that hurt when they’ve been on their feet for too long. 

Not really an injury but could arthritis be a possibility for this scenario?

Footsteps. Fuck, what was he bracing for? Another stabbing? Who was this silent fucker?

There was no bracing for what came next. 

Something solid–a metal rod? some part of Nykim’s brain wondered–connected with the side of his knee. The crunch of bone was shockingly loud, especially as who-the-fuck-ever decided a second blow was necessary. 

Nykim wanted to scream, but the sound was stuck in his throat. He wasn’t allowed to make noise, no noise, never noise never never 

Crunch

The rod came down again, on his other knee. Still he didn’t scream, even as his vision whited out. 

He didn’t scream when his fingers slipped off the chains, and his body collapsed into a boneless heap, only held semi-upright by the manacles digging into his wrists. 

He didn’t scream when the silent fucker lifted him up by the arms, and the slack in the chains was reduced. 

He didn’t scream when he was positioned on his broken knees, shattered pieces of bone grinding together as he used his arms to distribute his weight as best he could. 

The rod came down on his arms next, right below the manacles at the wrist, first one and then the other. 

He didn’t scream. 

Not until all his weight transferred onto the shards of his kneecaps, the bones of his wrist scraping as they were pulled out of alignment.   

Then. 

Then, he screamed.

Kinda go2 spoilers but I'm not tagging bc I don't want aphobic assholes to find it so that's your warning: ngl as an arospec ace, Crowley in season 2 means so much to me. One of my absolute favourite things this season was his complete lack of understanding of how to try getting Nina and Maggie together and just how surface-level and forced his attempt was. The awning plan was never gonna work and just kinda feels like a halfhearted 'well this is how people do romance, right?' kinda thing which I found. Super relatable tbh.

Every time I play the sims and am trying to depict a romantic couple in any way I'm just kinda like 'uhh. okay so they should kiss. and fulfil every romantic whim they get. oops they're not really going out much but that'd take from the relationship right? that's what people do?' and it always feels so stiff and awkward, but as someone who can't relate to those kinda relationships that's just what happens. Same when I write fanfic too - if I'm trying to depict a pair I like I don't really end up depicting kisses or confessions or talk of relationship status or whatever but then I'm like 'oh shit will people actually get they love each other if I don't?' and it's. The most unnatural and awkward thing that just kinda gets shoehorned in despite it not coming naturally to me.

Idk, I was smiling the whole time he was trying to figure out how to set them up based on what he's seen bc it felt so familiar on a personal level. He's extremely arospec ace to me.
