i. basics

ii. magic

blood: half-blood; wand: 10.5" willow wood, unicorn core, swishy; patronus: raven; schooling: scholomance, gryffindor; aligned: the order, griffin rank.

iii. backstory

oliver wood and amelia borges never intended to have children. the thought of bringing a child into a world veiled in darkness was nonnegotiable. however, things happen and amelia found herself pregnant. mixed emotions came and went. first being fear and self doubt, then excitement, until finally the one improbability came into their lives. both oliver and amelia took time away from the order's efforts to raise their daughter, who they named ana.

ana was a difficult child. stubborn in many ways and far too curious for her parents sanity, but like most things they adapted to her antics. by age six, she was sent to scholomance and put into primary school. during this time, her parents returned to their efforts with the order. scholomance was nothing ana could have imagined; tucked far away in the mountains of romania, shielding her from realities of war and loss. she was a smart child, academics came easy to her, but she was quiet and withdrawn at that age. once her magic came, she was moved to secondary school and the sorting hat placed her in gryffindor. something her father was quite cheery about.

as anyone would assume - the surname alone should have given it away, but quidditch was a highlight of her time at scholomance. something about the comradery and the obsessive need to win made ana fall in love with the sport in the same way her father had. it brought her popularity even, being a young chaser. however, the reality was, she could never continue that love outside of scholomance. the witch knew what welcomed her after, and the answer was no one. no matter how skillful of a chaser she'd become, she was a liability.

she became angry, understandably so. angry at the world for drawing her an impossible hand, but this indignation brought her purpose. her mother had been the calm one, having an affinity in the healing arts. ana took focus on those qualities despite her own hot temper. she trained in both offensive and defensive magic as this was custom and made sure to get high marks. the order of the phoenix was certain to welcome her and she was glad to follow in her parents footsteps.

iv. now + personality

ana is ranked a griffin, and her skillset is both in healing magic and combat. she regularly visits the phoenix nest to lend a hand when needed. is often seen carrying a leather satchel that contains dittany and various potions for extreme circumstances. when it comes to strategy, it's completely lost on her. she can be incredibly impulsive and acts on instinct. her motto being punch first and maybe ask some questions later. this can lead to reckless and potentially harmful decisions; making her a wildcard within the order. she's strong-willed and loyal. if she doesn't agree with something, she'll voice it - and for that, it's garnered her snide remarks. behind the tough exterior though, ana often struggles with self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy. typical imposter syndrome.

ranking top 10 jokes on the Angel pilot

10- "breath mint?" angel still pretending to be drunk, to the vampire he is about to fight in the alley That first bit of the scene where Angel is going to fight those guys but he pushes the drunk act as far as he can... it was just funny to me, not only bc of the drunk act itself, but also because he didn’t have to take it that far! so to me he was having fun acting, because he is like a repressed drama kid. And also, why go so close to this guys mouth? lol he could have gotten close anyway, there was literally no reason, like wearing the Hawaiian shirt just to pretend for less than a minute he was a lost tourist. He just liked doing it. No other explanation.

9- "Mr I was alive for 200 years and never developed an investment portfolio" I just like when they roast him, I think if they did it more often it would fix him. Also Cordy might be the only character that can be funny when she actually means to.

8- Doyle trying to run away, coming back, and trying to  bring down the fence with the car but just damaging the car a little subversion of the classic scenes where the fences do go down. It IS funny, adds suspense to the actions going on inside, and it serves to tell a lot about the character, so three for one!

7- Angel jumping into the wrong car instead of his, in the middle of chasing the bad guys I... I have mixed feelings about this because in the heat of the moment it works so well, like using the high of the chasing scene for the funny break, also the subversion or whatever, but then I thought for two minutes and went “HEY aren’t vampires supposed to have supper smell? he should have smelled that wasn’t his car!”

6- "You kind of remind me of her. You know... cuz of the hair " Angel pretending to be drunk talking about buffy to a bald black man  I think the whiplash from the classic detective noir voice-off of the introduction, to this, does a lot of the job, but still, it works. They knew anyone watching would know about buffy being exactly the opposite image already. And you can even see it as a little jab at : this show is going to be completely different from what you expect from before, from buffy. So its a good first joke of the show.

5- "I can do what ever I want"  "really? can you fly?"  *kicks him out of the top of the building. Bursts into flames in the sun*   "guess not" I mean its soo cheesy when you see it written but like, this whole show is cheesy, and to me that's part of the fun, something that makes me laugh. And in character it also makes me laugh because: *fondly rolls eyes* “look at that!  Angel again couldn’t pass the opportunity to be dramatic...”    But in scene it does work a little better because of the dramatic shots, the cool effects, plus the satisfaction of finally seeing the vampire murderer being stopped. Also, then you got the next one:

4- "What happened to Russel?"  "he went into the light" YEAH ok, its so simple, but the poker face of Angel in the middle of his brooding session makes it more funny, like in character he didn’t even think about making the joke, he just said a common phrase that means a person died, not even thinking about the double meaning, so Doyle also doesn’t acknowledge it as a joke.

3-  "he is going to kill everyone you care about" "there is no one left I care about"  *cut to Cordy meditating in her tiny apartment saying  : " I am somebody, I matter" I love smart cuts jokes. In the moment it just anticipates Cordelia is going to be the next vampire victim, but then you realize it anticipates how Cordelia is going to become someone important in the story and that matters a lot to Angel too.

2- Cordelia releasing this guy is a vampire >> defending her ability to identify vampires when questioned >> realizing said vampire is going to kill her>> saying she was just kidding The acting from both of them is very good, like the subtle denial of the vampire going “emm what? who? when? what?” and then changing into the menacing look, and Cordelia pointing the finger and UHG this is kind of unfair bc more than a joke its the entire scene that's really funny. And the comedy here also comes with the subversion of the helpless innocent victim trope, even if its just for that moment, because the protag is still Angel and he had to save her *rolls eyes* the fact that she can go “Hey I know what you are! I know about this stuff! I already went through worse!” its nice.

1- " It's about reachin' out to people. Showin' them that there's love and hope still left in this world." old lady living in the street: "hey, spare some change?"- "Get a job you lazy sow!"  shocking but sublime, perfect delivery, probably the funniest thing is how non of them acknowledges this and they continue talking about their own thing. It sets the mood for the story: this people might be trying to do some good but they are still kind of assholes with lot of issues and poor self awareness, so welcome to this shit-show. Enjoy

Evan Peters- every character (except cult and wandavision) passes, downside phil does not want to have ‘boner’ as a last name.. rank= D

TMNT- no longer interested in reptiles, however Donatello is particularly phil’s favorite as he should be ty phil. rank= T

for the 100k fic celebration, here a portion of the “what if 10x05 had a sastiel agenda?” AKA lil shit sam/jealous dean destiel fic I first shared a while back! been having a lot of fun basically rewriting and expanding on the entire musical episode with new songs (and lots of cute kristen & siobhan moments because OF COURSE they’re still a couple.) it was really encouraging to see the positive response to it back then and it's been taking forever because of work/other writing but I’m so excited to have this one be the first full-length fics I ever post.

It starts with costumed teenagers locked in a tight embrace with absolutely no room for Jesus.

“What are they doing?”

Marie glances over her shoulder for only a brief second.

“Kids these days call it hugging,” she says slowly. Geez, it would’ve been less insulting for her to just outright say Wow, you’re old.

Except it’s not just any of the show’s stars hugging over there. One of them is the “Dean” who’d been mid-rehearsal when they arrived and looked more like Bieber than him with the blonde wig. And the other? Well, he would recognize that Columbo coat anywhere.

“Is that in the show?” he asks, pointing their way.

Marie quickly shakes her head at the accusation. “Oh, no. Siobhan and Kristen are a couple in a real life.”

He nods and lower his hand. Got it. That’s all it was. Everything’s fine. Nothing to worry about—

“No, my play explores the nature of Sastiel.”

“The — wait, what?” he says, confused at once.

“Sastiel?” Marie pauses, giving him a second to figure it out. He doesn’t. “You know, the relationship between Sam and Castiel?”

Dean blinks.

“Sam and…C-Cas?”

“I know, I know. Edlund’s series never finished. I’m lucky I got these drafts. Ugh, it’s Midnight Sun all over again. But the love story is all in the subtext,” she says with confidence. “Can you believe there are people who still think Destiel is endgame? After everything that happened after the angels fell? After Gadreel? Please.”

He silently sounds out the word. Des-tiel? Wait…

“Ever since Cas came back from the dead and took on Sam’s pain, I knew. I just knew. Every one of their arcs had been parallel to each other’s from their fall from grace to the trials. And now with Dean gone, all they have…is each other.”

Marie sighs. “Besides, you can’t spell subtext without S-E-X.”

He coughs and nearly chokes on an asteroid-sized lump in his throat.

“I…uh. Yeah, th-that’s not…you know, I think I’ve seen enough,” Dean says with a forced smile. “Thank you for your, ah, time. I’ll, uh, we’ll follow up if we have questions about the missing persons case. I—alright.”

And with that he purses his lips, turns on his heel and walks away — nearly tripping over one of the stage chords as he does. Why are there are so many of them anyways? This is just some all-girls school production, not the goddamn West End.

He finds Sam in his natural nerd habitat (the tech booth) sifting through all the bins of A/V supplies.

“Yeah, not to interrupt the blast from the past here but it’s time for us to go,” he says, patting the door.

His brother shoots him an annoyed look but packs up and follows him out all the same. Not that Dean bothers to wait for him; no, he makes a beeline for the car as soon as he leaves the booth.

“Hey, what’s with the rush?” Sam calls after him as he runs to catch up with him at the school entrance.

“No rush,” he says shortly. “Just wanted to see what you found out before you got too lost in the nerd sauce over there.”

He doesn’t need to look back to know he’s on the receiving end of a Classic Sam Bitchface right now and continues to stomp his way through the parking lot.

“Well, no EMF, no hex bags. None of their props are remotely hinky. Talked to Maeve and all those extras in the auditorium.” Sam finally catches up and walks side-by-side with him now. “You have any more luck?”

“Nah. Ms. Chandler's office is just a pile of empty bottles and regret. She's probably just face down in a bar somewhere. Or a ditch. I did get to hear all about the director’s, ah, creative vision though,” Dean says, teeth gritted. “Apparently we go into space, I become a woman, and there’s even ninjas and robots!”

“Robots. Huh. Well, that’d definitely be a new one.”

“There’s no robots in Supernatural—”

“I-I know that,” Sam says in exasperation. “I just mean it’s, y’know, innovative. And Dean we’ve fought weirder. Remember the teddy bear? The fairies? The ballet shoes?”

“Well, you just wait until you hear about what she in store for you, Lover Boy,” he says.

And that makes Sam do an instant double-take.

“Uh, Lover Boy?”

“Yeah, your number one fan back there —” he says, gesturing back towards the school, “— was telling me all about the play’s, uh, love story between you and Cas. You got something you’ve been meaning to tell me or what?”

“The love story? Wait, what do you mean me and Cas?”

Dean scoffs, already in utter disbelief of the words he was about to say. “Like you and Cas, together. Together together? Romance of the ages the way she made it sound. Apparently it’s all in her play!”

To his surprise though, Sam just… laughs. “Well, I mean hey, that’s an improvement from the ones who wrote about me and you.”

“You got that right,” he agrees with a shudder. Meeting one Becky the Stalker was bad enough. Knowing she wasn’t alone and that she had an audience made it even worse. “She even had a portmanteau for you, dude. Like you’re some celebrities in a grocery store tabloid. Sass-tiel.”

“Sass-tiel?” He seems to seriously consider it but shrugs. “I don’t know. What about… Samstiel? CasSam? Cam? Mmm, maybe not that…”

Dean groans. “Really? That’s your issue with this?”

“Of course it’s not my issue,” Sam says. He stays pensive for a few more seconds until chuckling again to himself this time, as if he’s the only one in on a private joke. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, Cas is great but…”

“Not your type?”

“Yeah, sure,” Sam says. No, it’s definitely more than that and he’s doing a piss-poor job of hiding his amused expression.

Dean turns and stares him down. “What?”

“I dunno,” he says, his smirk fully visible now. “I just think it’s funny they’re pairing me up with Cas when the one with the ‘profound bond’ with him is right there.”

“Oh, haha. You’re hilarious,” Dean retorts at once.

“Hey man, I’m not the one who stayed in Purgatory for a year to find him.”

His glare takes on a murderous edge.

“Okay. You know what? You’re going to do that thing where you just shut the hell up! Forever!”

Sam holds up his hands in either what’s either a show of innocence or surrender.

“Alright, alright. Well, other than the Charlie Kaufman of it all I got nothing.”

“So…what?” Dean says. “This-this all... This whole musical thing, everything, it's... it's all a coincidence? There is no case?”

“Unless you're seeing something I'm not, no, Dean. There's no case here,” he says sincerely this time.

“Come on. This has classic Trickster vibes all over it.” He almost wants to turn around and start yelling, Come on out Gabriel you bastard!

“Trickster’s dead, man. And he wasn’t just a trickster, he was an archangel. And they’re all gone too.”

“Could be a lower-rank angel?” Dean tries. “I mean, Zachariah pulled off an entire apocalypse world. And that place where we were both corporate drones. Before you know it, this’ll get all Buffy and it’ll be me and you singin’ and dancin’—“

“Dean…I think it’s just fans. Look, as long as they’re not putting another love spell on one of us I couldn’t really care less what they’re doing,” Sam says with some bitterness, clearly not looking back at that particular memory with any fondness. “Just writing some songs? I mean, it’s innocent enough.”

“Oh yeah, so innocent,” he scoffs. “They’re singing about our dead parents, your demon blood bender, the apocalypse, all of it! This is just…it’s make-believe for them! But it’s our lives!”

Sam runs a tired hand through his hair. “Look, I don’t get it either man. I wasn’t exactly thinking about the books’ entertainment value while Chuck was describing my sex life in vivid detail—“

“Don’t remind me,” he says, holding up a hand in disgust.  

“—but I dunno. There’s obviously something about it they connected to, right? Something they related to, something that moved them, inspired them? And I guess…I mean, what’s wrong with that?”

There is so, so much wrong with that.

“I don’t know what story they’re reading and what Sam and Dean they’re ‘connecting’ to here. But it sure as hell ain’t us. I mean…they even made me blonde, dude.”

“It’s a high school play, what can you expect?” Sam laughs. “It was probably the closest wig they could find at Party City.”

Dean ignores him, muttering aloud as he makes his way to the driver’s seat.

“The hair…the singing…the robots… the love story…”

“You really were bothered by that, weren’t you?” Sam gives his brother a curious look.

“SUPERNATURAL ISN’T A ROMANCE!” Dean snaps. “Look, these girls obviously don’t know what they’re talking about—“

“I dunno, Dean,” Sam said in a clearly taunting voice now. “Maybe you’re just jealous of what me and Cas have.”

He flushes. “W-what? I-I’m not—“

“We could give you two a name too, y’know? So you don’t feel left out? What about…Dee-stiel? CasDean?”

And he refuses to entertain this conversation any longer.

“Shut your face! Get in the car!”

Thankfully Sam notices the shift in tone and obliges at once.

Dean, meanwhile, takes a moment outside the car to glance around — almost as if checking to see if anyone overheard that comment. Not that it mattered. Who could overhear? No one even knew they were THE Sam and THE Dean. Who cared? He certainly didn’t care. He didn’t care at all...

btvs season 3 episodes ranked

i kind of suspected starting s3 that ordering the episodes would be a hassle, and guess what, i was right. not only is the writing really solid throughout, s3 is much plot-heavier and less episodic than the seasons before it. still, i feel reasonably confident that i managed to order the episodes in something approaching a reasonable order of quality. alright here we go. btvs s3 episodes ranked from worst to best under the cut

21. episode 11, “gingerbread”: whatever.

20. episode 3, “faith, hope & trick”: this episode is named after the three different characters it introduces, only one of whom is even remotely interesting.

19. episode 5, “homecoming”: man. i thought this episode would rank way higher than this. the front half of it—buffy campaigning to be homecoming queen, the beginning of the willow/xander cheating plotline—is kind of a slog, and even the slayerfest ‘98 stuff, when it finally does happen, is not as entertaining as i remembered it. to be fair, though, the ending is really funny.

18. episode 4, “beauty and the beasts”: kind of fun but nothing special. angel is back, but like, who cares. first look at the updated werewolf costume, which is like hilariously bad, unlike the s2 costume, which was hilariously bad in a different way.

17. episode 7, “revelations”: a weird episode in that a lot of stuff happens in it, but it left close to no impression on me. mrs post is a fun character, i guess.

16. episode 14, “bad girls”: wesley is introduced, and while watching everyone neg him is a lot of fun, everything else about this episode is kind of forgettable. also, they really fucking named the vampire murder-cult “the eliminati” huh???

15. episode 10, “amends”: this episode bravely dares to ask the question: “what if scrooge saw the ghost of christmas past and was like, ‘i’m gonna fucking kill myself’?” it has its moments, even if the ending is like mega schmaltzy. it’s kind of cool that they introduced the first this early on, but also kind of weird that they then did nothing with it until season 7. also, hey, what the hell is up with buffy’s hair in this episode

14. episode 15, “consequences”: you know that faith is evil and fucked up because at one point in this episode she says that safewords are for pussies. anyway this one is good! watching everyone be at cross purposes while still all having the intention of helping faith, and it all going to shit in the end, is a lot of fun

13. episode 12, “helpless”: as a worldbuilding detail, the cruciamentum is dumb, but whatever, it’s fun! this episode feels like a very conscious take on the slasher genre, and the end result is very enjoyable. loses points because the rift it creates between giles and buffy is summarily swept under the rug in the next episode, which feels like a waste of potential drama.

12. episode 17, “enemies”: this one is fun! angel pretending to be bad is a fun gimmick, even if the explanation for the twist is like mega stupid. the confrontation between buffy and faith is really good.

11. earshot 18, “earshot”: i was prepared to be like “whatever” about this one too but it really picks up by the end. it’s entertaining, and it stands out in the sea of plot-heavy faith-centric episodes that make up the majority of this season.

10. episode 19, “choices”: god i love willow. she gets to really shine here. also, big ups to the mayor for pointing out how much buffy and angel’s relationship sucks. i know he’s evil but he made some points.

9. episode 21, “graduation day (part 1)” & episode 22, “graduation day (part 2)”: as an episode this one is good. as a season finale it’s… ok i guess. idk if this is just not one of the better season finales, or if it just feels less notable by contrast because the season that precedes it is so solid. some of it is really cool—the final confrontation between buffy and faith is fun, and the bit with the mayor at the hospital is good as hell—but the whole climactic battle against the mayor doesn’t really hit.

8. episode 1, “anne”: a little heavy on the misery porn, maybe, but a strong opener and a good look into buffy’s wrecked headspace at the start of the season. big bonus points for having buffy fight with a literal hammer and sickle while freeing a bunch of people from industrial slavery

7. episode 20, “the prom”: ah man this one is so nice. like, the tail ends of the seasons are always so rough on buffy and it’s actually really nice to see her get a moment of recognition for all her suffering. it’s mega sappy of course but imo it hits.

6. episode 2, “dead man’s party”: ok, the way they decided to make spooky zombie mask an african artifact is a little uncomfortable, but other than that this episode is really good. it’s a really deft blend of monster-of-the-week stuff and drama. when tensions boil over and everyone starts laying into buffy in front of everybody at the party… that’s the good stuff

5. episode 13, “the zeppo”: god this episode is just a delight. it is good and funny. the writing is clever, the jokes hit, the whole apocalyptic B-plot thing is such a funny device. a good episode.

4. episode 8, “lovers walk”: or as i like to call it, Spike Funny Moments. spike is obviously the star of this episode, but the rest of it is also really good and fun. the willow/xander cheating plotline, for all that it smacks of unnecessary teen drama, pays off in a really satisfyingly tragic way here. the cordelia funeral fakeout is inspired. the contrast between the main cast moping at the end of the episode and spike triumphantly singing along to “my way” in his car is mad funny

3. episode 6, “band candy”: or as i like to call it, Principal Snyder Funny Moments. god this episode is fucking funny. armin shimerman and anthony head steal the show here.

2. episode 16, “doppelgangland”: not even a season later, the writers were like, “vampire willow rules so much that we just simply have to bring her back.” and thank god they did. this episode is such a good time. all the jokes are really impressively well-timed. hey, also, just as a side note, who undressed vampire willow? it must’ve been regular willow, right? how did that make her feel, do you think, as a closeted lesbian?

1. episode 9, “the wish”: oh god this episode is so fucking cool. it’s not only the best of the season, it’s easily one of the best of the series. xander and willow as vampires are so much fun, and the dead-eyed, cynical version of buffy we see here is very compelling. the writing is inspired—see for example the way it establishes the rules of this new universe by setting up cordelia as the focal character, then killing her off halfway through. a banger through and through.

*You’re POV*

Trying hard not to loose your breath as you ran around the corner, you kept your eyes on the demon as he ran off of the sidewalk, through the park, and towards the woods. ‘Great’ you thought in your mind as you tried to keep up pace, hoping Buffy or the others were still behind you.

The people on the sidewalk watched you as you ran past, none of them having taken concern with the demon, as you were sure they just thought he was in costume, just as most of them and their children were.

Jumping over a small felled tree you stopped in your tracks as your eyes grazed the trees, seeing movement as the demon continued to run, you continued your chase in hopes of catching him.

The chase continued for a while before you entered a small clearing, stopping and listening, you heard no noise, and saw no movement. “Shit!” you muttered silently in anger as you realized you had lost the demon. Taking out your phone you see that you have no service. You groaned in frustration as you looked all around you, having no idea where in the woods you were, or just how far into them you ran.

Turning, you began heading back the way you came, hoping you would find your way out soon, or would run into Xander and Willow, you walked on, listening for the sound of distant trick-or-treating children or your friends. 

*Spikes POV*

He sighed as he approached the group of people seeing them talking quickly, almost with an air of panic. Immediately noticing you weren’t there, he ignored the disappointment of your absence and spoke with his usual air of cockiness “So you couldn’t catch the bastard then?” Spike commented as he approached the group.

He didn’t want to be here in the first place, and the only reason he was, was because you asked for his help. Besides, the particular demon, Zakar, causing trouble was an old enemy of Spikes. 

Buffy turned to him sighing “No, and you’re too late. They showed up again. We got the smaller one he had helping him, but not Zakar. We lost him, Y/n was chasing him but...”

Spike took a step towards Buffy, his eyes squinting in a glare “But, what?”

Willow looked down at the ground as Xander rubbed the back of his head, afraid to speak, knowing that Spike was fond of you, much more so than he was willing to admit “Uh, well, while Buffy was taking out the other demon we tried to keep up with Y/n, but we lost them around here somewhere” Xander commented not making eye contact with him “And now they wont answer their phone”

Spike stared at Xander “You lost them?” he took a step towards Xander, stopped by Buffy’s hand on his chest 

“And now we all need to be looking for Y/n” Spike glared down at her as she spoke “We’ll split up, Willow and Xander will go towards The Bronze, I will go up this road here, and you check by the park okay?” she asked Spike.

Saying nothing he turned and walked off towards the direction of the nearby park, trying not to focus too much on the panic growing in his chest. As he approached the park he tried your number on his phone, frowning when it said failed connection. 

As he approached the park, he looked around, his eyes fell to the sandbox, seeing deep footprints, larger than a child’s. His eyes lifted and landed on the treeline of the woods, leading you into the woods sounds like something Zakar would do, and you, not wanting to lose him, would follow. Spike picked up his pace as he made his way into the trees. 

*You’re POV*

You continued on through the woods, still silently cursing yourself for loosing Zakar, as well as getting yourself lost in the woods. Hearing the crunching of a branch nearby you halt in your step, crouching down behind a bush as you stared towards the area of the noise.

Seeing no movement, you wondered if it was a rabbit or another small creature. Before you could think of anything else you were suddenly grabbed by the shoulder from behind and thrown backwards, rolling roughly in the dirty.

Quickly standing with little balance, you see your standing face to face with Zakar. He grinned at you as he held up a knife. The one you had before, he must have taken it off of you when he threw you.

You glared at him as you stood in a more defensive position, looking around for something to use as a weapon. Zakar, giving you no time, lunged at you. Quickly dodging him you grabbed a nearby broken branch and used to defend, blocking Zakars swiping hands. 

With a loud yell Zakar swung again, grabbing the branch with his free had and using his demonic strength to throw you back. You rolled down a small hill toward a creek. Groaning as you stood, you knew you could do nothing without your knife or another weapon. The knife was the only way to kill him, you, Buffy and Xander had each been given one, but only one. 

Deciding you needed to get away, you began running down the direction of the creek, looking for something to use, or hide behind. You heard the roars of the demon as he began coming after you. 

Luckily, and unknowingly, for you, Spike could hear his roars as well, and was running towards the noise. Towards you.

Running through a small clearing you ran towards a tall tree, wondering if you could get up in it before the demon found you. An attack from above might get you the leverage you need to get your knife back. As you approached the tree, you jumped up, grabbing a branch and pulling yourself up.

But before you could get up higher, you felt a hand grab your ankle, pulling you. You yelled out, trying to hold onto the branch, pulling away from the demons grips. But the branch cracked, breaking as you fell to the ground. 

After your rough landing you turned around, still on you butt on the ground. Looking up, you see the demon coming at you with your knife. Raising your arms in a defensive position, you prepared for the impact, only to see the demon get knocked off his feet.

Seeing a figure land on top of the demon, you recognize the figure by their bright blonde hair. “Spike!” you yell out in not only surprise but relief.

Your eyes landed on your knife, which had been knocked from the demons hand. Taking the opportunity as Spike and Zakar began rolling around on the forest floor, you quickly crawled over to it, grabbing the knife you yelled out “Spike!”

Looking up at you, you toss him the knife, which he easily grabs, quickly plunging it into the demons chest. Spike stood at the demon yelled out, his body beginning to burn from the spell of the blade. 

You sighed out in relief as you groaned in pain, looking up at Spike who wiped some grime from his face he walked over to you “You alright?” he reached out his hand, helping you to stand. 

You nodded “How’d you find me?” you asked, somewhat breathless.

“Easily with this bloke roaring about” Spike commented, looking back at the still burning body of Zakar.

“How’d you know I was in the woods?” 

“I didn’t. I was looking by the park and saw your tracks leading into the woods. Which by the way, was a stupid idea, why in the bloody hell would you follow a demon into the woods?” he asked incredulously as he stopped in front of you.

“Well I did think that Xander and Willow were behind me” you defended.

“And what exactly would they have done to help?”

“Give them the credit they deserve Spike, they aren’t useless”

He rolled his eyes before stepping away “You’re lucky you didn’t get lost either”

You paused, not commenting, instead you picked up your knife from the ground. Spike, understanding your silence chuckled “Oh, you were lost weren’t you?”

“I would have my way out easily enough if Zakar hadn’t shown back up” you turned to him seeing him staring at you with a grin. 

“Oh I���m sure” he teased which you replied to with a glare.

Season rankings?

I'm going to split these into tiers so I can talk about a chunk of seasons at once:

Tier 1:

1) Buffy S5

2) Buffy S3

3) Buffy S2

These seasons have high ambitions and achieve basically everything they set out to do. Their flaws are pretty minor, restricted to occasional sub-par monster of the week episodes. Their arcs are strong and clear, and their best episodes are among the peaks of the show. S5 takes the crown for having no bad episodes and such a clear trajectory, hurtling towards Buffy's death and constantly exploring what that means. S3 is similarly consistent, though it doesn't hit the same heights as the rest - there's no iconic singular episode that knocks you flat - but its themes of authority and freedom are strong, and the dialogue is as smooth and confident as it ever is. S2 has arguably the best single arc in the entire show, it's just held back by the S1-esque MOTW episodes that I think are generally less interesting than the arc style that the show later adopts.

Tier 1.5:

4) Angel S5

5) Angel S2

I generally think that Buffy on average is a level above Angel - its ideas and symbolism are just more depthful - and that's reflected here. Buffy's best is better than Angel's best. I think a hair could split 5 and 2 here, both pushing the show in a new direction, really pushing their leads to tough places, and therefore getting the best out of them.

Tier 2:

6) Buffy S6

7) Buffy S4

S4 and S6 are very similar to me in that I think they are fantastic seasons both, and certain elements represent the peak of the show in some way, but they also have major flaws in their arcs that damage the season as a whole. In S4 this is Adam, and most stuff regarding Riley and the Initiative. In S6 this is the 'magic drugs' storyline. Both seasons kind of splurge away interesting arcs in their execution, and though I love them it keeps them a level below. But 8 have to stress, I really love these seasons and to they deserve more appreciation.

Tier 3:

8) Angel S3

9) Angel S1

10) Buffy S1

This section is the more average seasons. I don't have incredibly strong opinions on them, but I like them. S3 has a great tragedy for its middle third, with the "one good thing" that Angel and Darla created being stolen by their previous sin, the monster they created in Holtz robbing them off their salvation. But it runs out of steam and some pretty huge leaps of characterisation are taken at the very end to make the plot work. Angel S1 is definitely early days, still finding it's feet, but it's got more standout moments than Buffy S1 - which I do like, it's just very dull and shallow in comparison to what the series will become.

Tier 4:

11) Buffy S7

12) Angel S4

You could almost put these alongside Tier 2, because they both are full of interesting ideas, and sometimes they make those ideas work too. S7 I have especially gained a new appreciation of on my latest rewatch, there's definitely a great season in there. I love this idea of pushing Buffy to the limits of her self-isolation so that she can revolutionise the system at the end. I love everything about the first third. It's just buried under a series of very questionable characterisation decisions, a convoluted and inconsistent plot, and bloated with more characters and than it can handle. Similar story for Angel S4. I still kind of love both these seasons, with certain arcs and episodes being standouts of the whole show(s), but they are just dragged down by enough flaws that they end up as feeling like bad seasons with some fantastic elements, rather than fantastic seasons with some bad elements.

how would you rank the seasons from least to most favourite?

alright okay right off the bat worst season season 7. for starters i think this season has no staying power i mean like since i’ve been running this blog 4 so long now my knowledge of charmed is encyclopedic and insanely vast more than like it ever need be but for the longest time. i could not remember season 7. like wtf even happened there?? evidently leo became human??? cole returned? the avatars??? like all of it was just. it’s not even necessarily forgettable it’s just i straight up could not remember it for the longest time. and i’ve said it before the concept of utopia was way to advanced for a show like charmed to tackle i am not watching charmed for moral philosophy i am watching bc i love these girls ♥ hee hee hoo hoo magic adventure ✨ tho if i am to offer a single comment on utopia: it’s awfully rich for a show to go on about destiny and fate and then take a stand against utopia in the name of free will. but w/e. i don’t like leo in the avatars i don’t like his dynamic with piper in this season i don’t like whatever phoebe’s doing this season there’s like leslie?? maybe there’s someone else? boring & flavorless they should have been setting up her endgame instead of puttering around. and kyle. zoo wee mama. could have been a great antihero. morally gray. duplicitous. self serving. but no. they gave him all those traits and called him hero/love interest. s7 left a lot to be desired out of the characters and their relationships also gave us phat L’s such as the charmed ones are werewolves don’t worry about it and feminism peaked with naked women. shout out to zankou: demon, dilf, dub & the noir episode.

you know what? fuck it i’ll say it second worse season 5 genuinely fuck season five. this is probably a Very Specific beef 2 me But. i hate what they did to the charmed universe. this was the season that marked the transition of charmed from supernatural drama to campy soap which like. i love camp! i do! but fr. fuck this season and what it did to the worldbuilding. the early season have Such A Vibe to them man with warlocks and witches and just a couple niche monsters from assorted lore that the show took and made their own. season five opens with mermaids goes directly into fairytales then gives us superheros whatever the fuck was going on in that mummy episode the sandman leprechauns and nymphs. and i hate it for that. it takes away from this urban fantasy things that go bump in the night what lurks in the shadows of the back alleys of san francisco in favor of the ugliest cinderella dress ever put to television and an onslaught of horrible irish accents for a full episode. other issues with season five: cole’s still here? why? they don’t know and neither will you! we’re not redeeming him! phoebe’s not getting back together with him! yes he died we just refuse to let him go! the cherry on top of course being a cole-centric 100th episode. shout out to. hmm. lemme think about what i actually liked about this season. i like jason dean as a love interest i don’t remember what he did in s5 but i know he was there. the season finale i’ve talked about how stupid & shitty it was but idc i still love that episode and then shout out to bacarra the only original villain this season that was a proper serve. the crone gets second place.

next on this come on we all saw it coming season 8. it’s a bad season! and i get bts there was a whole lot happening budget cuts missing actor etc. but it goes beyond that. it was a bad season. billie and christie were bad. and i’ve said this before but billie in herself is not an inherently bad character. she was just the literal worst for the show. she was a dollar store buffy blonde confident cocky skilled and ready 2 fight evil But. we are not following her like we followed buffy we are following her mentors. it’s like if we had a show called giles that aired for seven seasons And Then buffy showed up. billie was insanely irritating to watch from our perspective and in general wasn’t like. well written. attempts to humanize her / give her more depth often fell flat. and then christy. oh nelly. oh my god. barely a character. not well acted but hey it would have been a miracle if she was. negatives include dumain who was a mess omg bringing back the triad bringing back the source billie & christy obvi and also involving homeland security. which is season 7′s fault which is why it’s the worst. dubs on the other hand include both coop and henry i really liked them the shoehorned love interests weren’t great but i like their characters i though the way the got rid of leo to save on the budget was really creative and gave us a great piper episode and of course the sugary sweet finale i love it i do what can i say.

yet another controversial choice aptly coming in fourth is season 4. i respect what season 4 set out to do. i think it was a good idea. long form narratives, keeping a darker tone, focusing on character-driven drama and growth. too bad it fucking failed miserably at all of this. cole as the source and phoebe as the queen of hell was just so so botched. they had a very unique opportunity following the death of prue to explore these characters and what it means to them to be charmed, to be witches. they saved the world but the cost is insanely high. they’ve lost an older sister. they’ve gained a new sister. how do you even begin to cope with all this? episodes such as hell hath no fury and brain drain fuck so hard because they work with exactly that. had the whole season been like those episode season four would sit at number one with flying colors absolutely no competition. but alas. we can’t have nice things. the show got so bogged down with phoebe & cole, in a way that was just so, so messy. for starters, whether you loved cole or hated him before, we can all agree source!cole sucked. he was such a strong 180 from what we had seen that the show had to make the source some type of possession to justify half the shit they were trying to pull. and then to pit phoebe and paige against one another over a man was just. disgusting. and the ending of course felt rushed because it was! they wrapped up that entire issue in a nice little bow much faster than they reasonably should have been able to. it could have been a great season. it was definitely not. shout out to the seer an iconic mastermind on barbas levels, as previously stated brain drain and hell hath no fury Specific shout out to piper’s scene at prue’s grave shout out to paige as a character i like what they did with her and um. yeah that’s it.

okay we’re exiting the shit tier in favorite of the good tier welcome to the upper half. kicking us off is season 6. season 6 did what season 4 could not in that it gave us a long form plot that still left plenty of room for like. normal demon of the week episodes. i love phoebe early in this season with her faboo haircut her brand new empathy power and her relationship with jason dean. obvious strikes against for whatever the fuck that baby crazy stint was and also the mata hari episode. yikes. i love paige’s hair color in this season nothing paige as a character necessarily stands out to me however i like how they seem to have hit the blend of work-magic with paige where she wants a life and career outside of magic however she still loves the craft and embraces is with an open heart and mind. season six also gives us chris who was a very fun male lead imo we really didn’t have many like him he’s bitchy. he whines and bitches a lot he’s got an agenda he’s a bit secretive but at the end of the day he just wants a family i like him. i like the character growth we see out of piper i like seeing her try to move on from leo i love seeing her get back together with leo i like her dynamic with chris and her fears about motherhood. i also liked richard but that one takes a lot of justification. L’s are witchstock hyde school reunion used karma off the top of my head also the paige/richard/addiction plotline was so tone deaf. also the girls were mean to darryl : ( he deserved so much better. dubs were chris as a character, tbh the episode little monsters, phoebe with empathy specifically saying i love you too to jason i could write a dissertation on that line alone also the courtship of wyatt’s father and i thought the reveals of evil wyatt and chris being piper and leo’s son were both fun and interesting plot twists.

coming in third is actually season 2 a season i really do love it’s just. it lacks structure. imo there is a lot to love about season 2 morality bites and pardon my past are both delightful time travel episodes we get jack sheridan and bane jessup two of my personal favorite prue love interests we get p3 h2o and a great prue plotline regarding the death of patty we get the super cute cupid episode it’s a great. collection of episodes. it’s not a great season. there’s just imo not a strong enough thread connecting the stories together it’s mainly held together by having the same characters in it over and over again i really liked dan personally but like. i knew we were wasting time there. he was just an obstacle. a super cute loving and caring obstacle who’s great with kids but lbr piper and leo were always endgame. wasting our time on dan was stupid. i do love the sister dynamics in season two “gotta hand it to those pesky little demons they sure have brought us closer together” but again. this season could have benefitted from a rex and hannah type or even like a cole or zankou. this season is less of a season and more of just like a handful of episodes, and while there are some fat dubs, there are also some definite swings & misses. shout out to the time travel episodes the prue centric episodes phoebe’s character growth and maturity throughout this season (e.g. her going back to college) and i also think the fashion got a lot more fun this season.

second place i’m saying season one season one was a really strong start and gave us these really compelling characters with interesting relationships between one another But. a lot of it just kinda falls flat. and credit where credit is due it was a brand new show getting its feet under it but the fourth sister feats of clay which prue is it anyway they just simply aren’t dubs imo. also i don’t like that 70′s episode bc again i am an asshole concerned about The Lore i can’t believe one bitch ass warlock caused the Charmed Ones to grow up without powers. it just really bugs me. all in all the plots as a whole like aren’t great imo they’re nothing to write home about (save for from fear to eternity) it’s really the characters that make this season so goddamn good.

first place congratulations to the one the only season three. this is just because it kinda hits all my requirements in that it has some banger one offs (e.g. all halliwell’s eve, the good, the bad, and the cursed) it has an overarching plot at the exact same time as the source becomes more prominent and obvi cole is also there with murderous intent i like the character growth we see especially from prue i like piper and leo finally get married overall i really like the aesthetic of this season that blends a darker urban fantasy tone with still some charmed fashion and whimsy. strikes against tbh phoebe and cole’s relationship i am insanely picky with my enemies to lovers and the do not come remotely close to cutting the mustard in fact they are almost immediately disqualified however from afar i can see and respect The Drama. shout out to recasting victor prue with pistols death as a character and shannen directing episodes
