learned there's bad endings to bugsnax where you let people die and if they were in love their partners have voice lines reacting to it and i don't want to live anymore now.

So I took some audio from gramble’s bad ending lines in bugsnax, and combined it with some sad music, and I made this….I’m gonna be so fricking evil. If you decide to use THIS specific audio (you know, this one with the background music playing with it while gramble speaks), please credit me! (No, I don’t own the original audio btw, young horses does)

OMFG The biggest angst animatic idea just popped into my head but it’ll take forever and practice. I need to practice drawing Wambus and Triffany for it but OH MAN I hope it’ll be worth it.

Maybe the bugsnax that don't look like bugs came from the cocoon's like the one we found filbo in.
Which would mean that we are very lucky to have found filbo before had mutations outside of beetle-like wings since that would effectively mean that that the bagel cat, rockbat, and and the pielobite(s) were all grumpuses who weren't as lucky as him
"pretty sure that's what bugsnax as a whole are, bugsnax originally gained power when grumpus' we're being sacrificed to them creating more."

i started playing dredge on Nov27 and finished yesterday Dec3. I also got the new DLC before did the final quest and did all of that. i love catching fish i love Dredge, I think I ended up with almost 28 hours played over the past 6 days
A pattern in some of the games i enjoy the most:
1wholesome at the surface, ie gameplay, with some darker undertones
2collecting creatures to fill out a compendium/encyclopedia of sorts
3somewhat “simple” graphics, clean or stylized may be a better word, when the visuals are too complex it makes it harder for me to process
My favorite games I feel this pattern(major spoilers btw)
Bugsnax, Subnautica, even Breathe of the Wild, and now Dredge
in Bugsnax you collect bugsnax to fill out your bugapedia, The surface gameplay being catching bugsnax, solving puzzles, exploring, giving your new friends bugsnax they want and being able to make funny looking characters with them, you also get your won hut to upgrade and decorate with trinkets from your friends. The darker undertone is you learn these snax are actually parasites, and the more you have fed your friends, the more vulnerable they are in the last battle to being overcome by bugsnax- your friends are troubled you have the option to help resolve their inner (and outer) conflicts but it is an option, and they can die without ever confronting their shortcomings.
In Subnautica you collect data on creatures by scanning them, sometimes while being actively attacked. On the surface/gameplay, you catch fish and explore the ocean/planet collecting resources to build your base and you can do some decorating, hatch eggs in an aquarium. The darker undertone is of course you crash landed, all your crewmates are dead, the rescue ship tried to save you and got shot down and died, youre infected with a bacteria and can not leave until you are cured, you discover this is actually a planet that has really suffered from this bacteria, the leviathan that could cure it is much too old and her eggs struggle to hatch.
In BoTW: i will admit, it fits a little less on multiple accounts but i can still fit it here so its staying- the compendium does not play as center stage as the other games, however you can still find and take pictures of all the creatures in the game. the surface gameplay is solving puzzles, helping strangers and old friends, taking in beautiful scenery. its dark undertone is ofc calamity ganon, not exaactly an undertone more of a looming overtone that you can ignore but its close enough.
In Dredge you’re a fisherman and you catch fish and fill out the encyclopedia, you also can catch all the aberrations of the fish. on the surface, you catch fish and do sidequests for all sorts of people, theres a dog to rescue too! the music and the water sounds are so calming(during the day) and you can upgrade your boat and unlock all sorts of rods, nets, engines and crab pots. The dark undertones are partially unknown ie how did the aberrations come to be this way? what the fuck IS that in the “bad” ending? and partially known, our playable character seems to have experienced some memory loss, on purpose. hes separated himself into fisherman and collector (and also old fisherman iirc?) to bring back his dead wife using dark magic, the lighthouse keeper is the only one who knows him and she is very old compared to our character, presumably also kept alive by dark magic. Our character apparently also had major cognitive dissonance about himself and the collector, he tells the lighthouse keeper he has the book, and she says hes had it the whole time. throughout the entire game the character is plagued by perils of the sea and his own hallucinations, the line between them is often hard to draw clearly. It is definitely true the perils are made worse if we are also hallucinating.

Who would make the best new main character? (Round 1)
Note: I recommend reading this blog's pinned post that explains what this tournament is about before voting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA:
The Cheespider- Ok, Please Hear Me Out- I think the movie would be quite interesting from the cheespider’s point of view. Like from the trauma she probably has from Chester and the Thinkquanauts harming her and her home. How she thought that the main character and his friends were the people who are working to destroy her home and harm the food animals, including her. And then her finding out that the very people who she thought are bad are actually nice people. That she got captured and imprisoned by the thinkquanauts along with Flintlock’s friends. That she rebelled and fought with the food animals fighting for the food animal’s freedom. How she got revenge and satisfaction from eating and ending the life of the very person who caused the trauma of herself, the other food animals, and her home. (And possibly the fact that, in the end, when her home got relived, she became a mom, with her being happy about that.) So Cheespider - at least, within my childhood - is quite a cool and intimidating (and kinda sweet) character, who has a rather neat impact on the movie. And - at least, to me - you got to admit, her eating Chester around the end of the movie was pretty bad@$$ for her to do lol.
The Bugsnax- (just a warning, this has heavy spoilers): I think swapping the perspective with the Bugsnax would be really interesting. The Bugsnax act like dozens of different creatures, but in reality, they're all one hive mind. We could have a flashback to see their backstory, we have tons of perspectives to watch what's going on from since there's so many Bugsnax everywhere, and we could see how they react to the original player and their actions. Plus, it works for all kinds of genres. Maybe it's straight up horror. Maybe it's a workplace comedy, and they drop their act when Grumpuses aren't around, similar to Toy Story.

THE BUGSNAX ARE EXTRATERRESTRIAL CREATURES — AND HERE'S WHY. || (MAJOR BUGSNAX + BIGSNAX DLC SPOILERS)
Note — I've been researching this since yesterday and I finally figured all of the lore out! I think-
So, first things off ‐ as the title says, this post contains MAJOR BUGSNAX SPOILERS FROM THE ENTIRE GAME!!! SO IF YOU HAVEN'T FINISHED THE GAME YET I think it's best that you skiddadle your way out of here!!
Back to my theory — the bugsnax are extraterrestrial creatures. Why? may you ask. And the answer is simple! Many clues across the entire game from start to end have pointed at the fact that these creatures are not from this world, and we have probably dismissed them.
To begin with, and as everyone already knows:
The bugsnax are parasites that lure their hosts into developing some sort of bond with them, be it emotional or physical - eventually forcing them to eat the bugsnax on huge quantities and fully undergoing the snaxification of their limbs - until the end of the game where the snaxification finally concludes and, if you score the bad ending, everyone presumably dies.
Knowing this, and with what Liz says at the end of the game, we know that the bugsnax are patient. They take advantage of the foremost weaknesses of their hosts and make use of those to transform them into snax. Adding onto this is the fact that the bugsnax do not mind being eaten by the grumpuses, despite being seemingly startled by them.
In the bad ending, as each grumpus dies, they recite a line referencing their tragic pasts and the demise that has come to them, showing that they are happy with the bugsnax and not being in the slightest bothered by the fact that the bugsnax are forcing themselves into their bodies — just like they did with Liz once her and Eggabell separated prior to the beginning of the game.
With all that said, comes the important part of the theory!
Why do I think Bugsnax are not from planet Earth?
First off, the paintings on the walls of the many caves and old buried civilizations of Snaktooth Island. As you may already know, these paintings in the real word have often been found to be tied to extraterrestrial devices and things of a similar nature! Which is pretty awesome, because the carvings and paintings in-game live up to these features as well.
Anyway, as I was saying - These old civilizations of Snaktooth Island are spread all throughout the island and they all seem to have gone extinct under rather strange circumstances.
or... have they really?
Triffany believes that these old civilizations of grumpuses fed on the bugsnax as well and even praised them (as seen in the Bugsnax DLC, Isle of Bigsnax) to the point where they would make offerings to them and sacrifice other grumpuses in order to satisfy the snax's hunger for... grumpus flesh? This doesn't add up.
During one of his side missions, Wambus mentions something about the bugsnax and the way they reproduce - mentioning that many times has he seen these little creatures carve their way out of the ground like vegetables. But, were they really growing off the soil itself?
I don't think so.
Let's return to the bad ending of the game! Remember how everyone gets turned to snax after the snaxification reaches its completion? Well, here's a funny hypothesis.
What if the snax's way of reproduction is mitosis on a cellular level?
This would explain why Wambus had various sightings of these creatures "growing" off the grounds. Many grumpuses could have probably been buried in the grounds of Snaktooth Island and, as Triffany said, a lot of these corpses would disappear without leaving any traces besides a couple of bones, which was extremely strange to her.
I believe that once the snaxification is complete and the grumpuses have finally surrendered to the snax, they turn to pieces of food - leaving these for "incubation".
Now, I don't know how long this incubation process might take, but seeing how the island of REPLETED with these snax, I am led to believe that the time of incubation has no basis of time and is only random.
The snax all of the grumpuses have eaten during our adventure are more than likely the remains of those past civilizations that could not escape Snaktooth Island and instead decided to surrender to these parasites.
But, this doesn't prove that the bugsnax are extraterrestrial crestures. Does it?
Well, it doesn't! But there's still one last thing to talk about. Or two, if you will. Or many. I didn't count them.
THE TRIPLICATE SPACE AND THE SNAKOLYTES — A SPACE BETWEEN WORLDS.
Ah yes, the triplicate space. I was so amazed by this gigantic piece of an Easter egg when I first accessed it! Marvelous work honestly. Props to the developers for managing to execute this flawlessly.
The Triplicate Space. The Snakolytes. How do they all tie into this? Allow me to elaborate.
Floofty and Snorpy have been known to work for the government, which is revealed during the near end of the game. The reason behind Snorpy's paranoia is that both of them have been put under lawsuits for attempting to reveal the government's inappropriate use of a new type of prosthetics that could have saved lives! And is the main reason of the conflict between Snorpy and Floofty as siblings.
Snorpy, obsessed with the idea of the Grumpinati and their connection with aliens, has already figured most of this story out. The poor little guy just isn't aware of it.
The Snakolytes are somehow tied into the government and this should more than likely be common knowledge. For us as players, at least.
As Alegander states in the tapes, these old civilizations were guided by "Gods" of the snax. Those who were sacrificed in pits full of snax would eventually return and release their full wrath over the grumpuses, or so did the first two. The first god was known to be malevolent, having the intent of fully reigning over the grumpuses and using the snax as a weapon to extermine them all. The second god was benevolent, yet not quite intelligent by nature. Their benevolence eventually led to the unintended destruction of the grumpuses.
And then there was the third goddess. Elizabert Megafig. The Snakolytes had hoped that this new goddess would bring peace to this world, weaponizing the bugsnax and putting society under instrumentalization! Which ultimately failed, as Elizabert was not quite fit for the intention of the bugsnax.
But, why do I believe that the Snakolytes had other intentions besides the instrumentalization? Or better yet, WHO are those in power of the Snakolytes? Presumably, they're descendants of Grumpbeard. And while I do believe this to be true, I refuse to believe that their objective was none other than to link the planet Earth with that of the Snax.
The Snakolytes. An organization led by Bugsnax.
HERE COMES MY FAVORITE PART!!
That eerie, atmospheric theme song of the Triplicate Space will always be stuck in my head.
And as the title of the song says, the Triplicate Space is "The Space Between Worlds".
This might just be a silly theory of mine buuuut, this song may be directly referencing the book under the same title written by Micaiah Johnson which specifically tells the story of a woman with the power to travel between worlds and often references various issues of privilege and position.
Privilege and Position. ALEGANDER JAMFOOT'S FOREMOST CONCERN! And perhaps the reason for his obsession with the triplicate space and why he was sent there to begin with.
"The Space Between Worlds" is also a pretty self-explanatory title for a theme song. The Triplicate Space's purpose is to link the world of the Snax with that of the Earth and continue the cycle of snaxification Ad Infinitum. Or at least until the instrumentalization is finally carried forward.
A Tasty Conclusion.
The bugsnax are fascinating creatures! Or horrifying parasites, depending on how you decide to look at it.
Coming from a different world or even DIMENSION that traces back in time for thousands and thousands of years, constantly seeked over by the Snakolyte Organization since the arrival of grumpbeard to the island.
The lore of this game is so extensive and I truly cannot wait longer to finally uncover every last bit of it! Until then, I shall keep on studying and researching what we currently have and, hopefully, come to a true conclusion someday.
also it's pretty weird that the triplicate space has a snak exclusive to it. I wonder where that little guy came from.
Farewell! ☆

Reasons why I love Bugsnax cuz I need to talk about this game which has now consumed me completely (there’s some spoilers here and there, as I’m just writing down stuff I can think about at the moment)
All the characters are neat, and are so fun to interact with-
Considering the situation they are in, I think how they all interact with each other is very realistic, which I love. Like, there are friendships and cute romantic relationships, but there are also not so good relationships that aren't toxic but still make for a good dynamic within the group
All the character designs (both grumpus and bugsnax) are peak marketable plushie designs (I want the Bunger and Strabby plushie so badly)
The bugsnax are so silly :) They are just kinda bug, kinda snax :)
The Bugsnax reminds me of Pokémon, except you don’t make them fight, you just feed them to your friends- Like, how they say their own names, some are harder to catch than others, and just the look and vibes of them
There are multiple lgbtq characters, but not forced or marked-like. They are just there, like it's completely normal, which makes me so happy (Like Floofty is disliked by practically everyone, but no one misgenders them, which means it’s just… normal)
Bunger bunger bunger :D
The names of everyone are so fun, from just misspelled normal names to straight-up muppet-esque names (Triffany - Tiffany, Elizabert - Elizabeth) (Wambus, Gramble, Floofty)
If I had a nickel for the amount of times I got emotionally attached to the one “good” parasite who have the name combo of “S_out”, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice. (Sprout aka the buggyball from Bugsnax, and Scout from hello puppets)
I love the Bugsnax, especially the strabbies, they’re so silly :)
The lore is so good and fun, and I might have just been on a “oooo fun game” high, but I didn’t really catch any plot holes or plot lines I heavily disliked, so it’s good :)
Then again, it does have some darker themes, already showing before the ending, and it’s a good ending no matter, story wise (I did not nor will I ever have the guts to get the bad endings tho, like no, that would hurt too much)
Also if you get the ✨secrets✨, it looks like it could ramp up to a sequel, which I absolutely want
The journalist aka the player character, is very much a self-insert type protagonist, but they’re also not just a reflection of the player. Like their little notes and drawings for quests and such are so fun and cute (also for the people who decided that the most common name for the journalist is “Buddy”, I love you /p /hj (no hate to other journalist names of course, I just like Buddy))
The fact that the player also is allergic to Bugsnax is so fascinating to me, like we survive of sauces, but feed everyone else (technically not including Shelda and Gramble, but they can both eat Bugsnax, just have other reasons why they don’t). It works so well with angst, cuz on the island we have the journalist who can become sick after a while but still trudges on, and after the island, well, there’s definitely some guilt there from feeding everyone
I dunno why, but I love the idea of banjo-pop music, and I would like to thank Wiggle for introducing me to it
I also love Broken Tooth island just showing up, like it really shows there’s something weird about the Bugsnax islands (both Snaxtooth and Broken tooth). Not to mention how weird Snaxtooth is, with hot desert almost bordering frozen solid mountain
Snaxtooth is really an adventurer’s dream come true, which is why it humors me so much that some of the grumpus who joined the expedition are just… normal people. Who just joined, like for a vacation??? It’s funny
I managed to get all the achievements which I’m very proud of myself for managing :) I also have done all mail requests, and that’s just because of the wonderful people who made a guide for how to catch 5 different Bugsnax in 60 seconds or 10 Bugsnax in 90 seconds
Over all? Silly game which definitely also deserves its psychological horror tag, but I adore it
Tumblr media
I leave you with this really lazy edit of my favorite parasites /hj
