My local network habitually aired Power Rangers episodes all out of order when I was a kid – we were lucky if both parts of a two-parter ended up airing consecutively, much less anything further-reaching – so I always had a fuzzy idea of how some of the plot points lined up.

For example, I didn't realise until just now that the gag where Bulk and Skull got turned into chimpanzees wasn't a one-off thing? Apparently they just stayed that way for the next fifteen episodes, and continued to serve as the show's comic relief B-plot in spite of being monkeys, voice-acted Garfield style by their regular human actors?

Now I'm wondering what else the out-of-order airing made me fail to connect the dots for.

I recently got into power rangers again after years of not being interested at all and watching the original Run for the first time and wanted to talk about bulk and skull and the vibe they give me which is closeted gay couple I get this vibe for a lot of reasons their dynamic of literally always being together and the fact that skull does basically whatever bulk says and the fact that he tends to call bulk bulky which just sounds like a cute couple pet name also there's the fact that the three-parter the ninja encounter basically has the two playing house with a baby they rescue from a car

Minor spoiler ahead about the comics.

In the MMPR The Return #3 comic, Tommy had teleported a very young Selena away from a dangerous situation they were in. It was his effort to save her, due to those circumstances at the time.

Meanwhile, Bulk and Skull are out patrolling a nearby park, as any reasonable officers would do when they are on duty.

It’s the point in history that the young Selena showed up in a nearby bush, in this park that they are at.

In all likelihood, they handed her off to someone else and then they just went about the rest of their lives. The comic doesn’t veer off into some side-plot about this, because it’s not important. It is still cute, however, that it’s Bulk and Skull who she encounters in part 3 of this comic.

A lot of children’s media has really good characters with really good character arcs. Everybody knows about Prince Zuko, but some characters who have an incredible character arc that are never brought up are Bulk and Skull from the Power Rangers. Look at the first episode that they appear in, and compare it to the final episodes of Power Rangers in space. They go from bullies who want to learn kung fu so that they can beat people up to people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the good of the earth. It’s pretty good stuff.

Bulk kept in a groan as Stone kept on talking.

That wasn't even really the worst part. The worst part was that Stone's car decided to crap out on the side of the road, miles out of town. The hood was up and gently smoking as Stone looked at the engine. The only light came from the twinkling stars above and the pocket flashlight his mom got him last Christmas.

"Don't worry Bulkmeier, I'll have us out of here in no time. I've taken plenty of classes on car maintenance," Stone said. "Move the light a little left—there."

Bulk dutifully moved the light and rolled his eyes. "I don't doubt you sir. But I still think we should just walk to town, if we go right we could meet Skull. He has the motorcycle. Sir."

"I guess you're right," Stone sighed and shut the hood with a thump. "But we should go left. And it's not that I doubt Skullovitch's motorcycle driving abilities, it's just that it's not going to fit the three of us. And if we go left we could still make it to the International Dance-a-Thon."

"Face it sir, we're not gonna-" Bulk rolled his eyes, briefly looking up at the stars. Then he froze. Were stars supposed to be moving like that? "Is that star moving?"
