Thesis diary #35

It's been a while since I've done one of these. Today I finally finished writing the first chapter of my thesis, or at least the first draft. This first chapter is all about the storiography of the subject. I divided it in two halves, the first on the storiography of the general subject of witch hunts in europe, and the second half on what it has been written on the trial I am working on in my thesis. It's meant to be an introduction to the developments of the researches done in the various decades, and hopefully it will work as a sort of base in which my own work will be placed. I have yet to send it to the professor, because I want to re-read and maybe edit it a bit more in these next couple of days, but then I'll send it to her so that after reading something of mine for the first time she can give me directions and advices. This week I am also going to the archives again to check the documents and take some pictures of them so that I'll have a bit of work to do for the rest of the summer, and so that my thesis can finally take shape. I must say I overall enjoy the work, I like the research aspect, as it is really exciting for me, and I love the writing part aswell. As I have mentioned before this work is something that makes me anxious because it's important and years of exams have lead to this, but at the same time this is the type of job I really like doing, so I'm definitely enjoying the process. I was thinking of posting a few tips/useful things I realized while writing this first chapter.

So last year I got really into bullet journaling! I made a set of rules with myself that: I would hand draw everything, I can use stickers and washi tape as accents tho, and that I would not share anything about it until it was over. I also made it themed. The journal itself was an undertale themed one so I made it video game themed!

little known fact about me: i’ve kept an active reading journal since 2020. it’s cute and fun and colorful and most importantly not for a grade so there’s no pressure and no deadline. i have a bunch of tracking pages and pages about the book club i have with my irl friends.

much more known fact about me: i love gothic literature (yes i was that english major in school) and im going on year three of dracula daily.

so, this year, i made my first dracula daily spread in my reading journal! dates with emails are in red and the blank space on the side of each month is for ongoing junk journal thoughts as we read.

(the logo at the top is thanks to a phone mirror drawing contraption i’m still getting used to using but so far has opened a lot of doors to more complicated designs!)

As we're moving away from the dark seasons, in the period where spring is only just preparing for its first steps, I created this journal entry on the Krampus and the Perchten, famous Alpine winter spirits.

It's a compilation of text excerpts from scientific articles and printed photos/stickers, arranged in a way that reminds me of zines. I've always wanted to create zines on folklore, cryptozoology, mysteries and similar topics so maybe it does happen someday 😁.

Just realized that like the idiot that I am I dated the other two posts I wrote in August as if it was still July. Anyway after some editing here's a little update. I did not study as much as I had planned while on holiday, I decided to actually take some time off, even though when I'll get back home from the seaside I'll be quite busy. But I had no energy to study and I really needed some real time off. To be honest I would still need some time off, but I'll find a way. Not sticking to the initial plan I had makes me a bit anxious, and of course makes me feel guilty, but I have to work on these feelings. Because it is unbelievable that I cannot rest without getting negative feelings. All this stuff aside, today is my last day at the seaside, and I cannot believe two weeks have gone already. I am almost done with reading It by Stephen King, and even I have more or less one third of Time Is A Mother by Ocean Vuong left. I am taking my time with the latter, because I feel like I have to be in the right headspace to fully enjoy poetry.
