Changed taste
Callum had left after the second act. The production at the alternative opera had been a cheek. The singers had been a disaster. And the announcement of the underground strike had been a good excuse not to have to listen to this debacle to the end. Unfortunately, the underground drivers had shown no consideration for Callum. The strike had already begun. The underground shafts were deserted. So it was a taxi. This contradicted Callum's attitude to sustainability. He always excused his flat in Kensignton by saying that it was so centrally located that he didn't need a car. Only a few of his friends knew that there was an old Jaguar E-Type and a brand new Porsche 911 in the underground car park. Callum's family had made a fortune from property speculation over 100 years ago. He owned the exclusive block of flats in which he lived. This and a few more.
When he came up from the underground, it had started to rain. And he had left his umbrella in the cloakroom at the opera. Underground strike and rain. Not a good combination for getting a taxi. Callum would be happy to stay here for that long. Callum thanked him and asked if he could return the favour somehow. Kieron shook his head and showed Callum where he could find hangers to hang up his wet clothes. And pointed to a basket of washing. A customer had left it here. Callum could take some of it if he wanted to.
The clothes were obviously still unwashed. They smelled of sweat and cold cigarette smoke. There were dried precum stains in the pants. Callum was disgusted. But also soaking wet. Dianne Gordon was walking home from work on Jan. 21 when she saw a plastic bag on the ground and inside the bag she could see piles of money. Although she was in need of a vehicle-- her car broke down last year -- Gordon contacted police and returned the money immediately.
Police were able to track down who the money belonged to and discovered it belonged to a newlywed couple and have since returned the money to the couple. As for Gordon, her good deed wasn’t overlooked by people who heard her story, as the spouse of one of the police officers involved launched a crowdfunding campaign to help secure a car for Gordon. As of Thursday morning, the campaign has raised $14,500
2. Washington D.C.’s free bus bill becomes law as zero-fare transit systems take off
Washington, D.C., has enacted a zero-fare bus bill into law.
The policy eliminates the $2 fare for all the city’s buses starting this summer.

"I got stood up."
Sighing, you spoke into the phone, trying to ignore the blush rising upon your face.
"Alright, I'll be there in 5.", his accent was heavy through the speaker, but a comforting sound to hear in your time of need.
Sheltering under a bus stop against the rain was your only chance of not ruining the outfit you had planned. The rain splattered onto the sidewalk in front of you as you held onto your phone tightly, waiting.

"So.. You wanna talk about it?"
Rain pattered against the windows of the black jeep you were now seated in. Beside you sat Graves, looking out onto the road intently as the engine hummed throughout the drive.
"I don't know. It's embarrassing.", you were sat against the leather seating, arms crossed over your chest in shame. It really was embarrassing seeing how you were now soaking wet, water was dripping onto the seat.
"Well, I don't see why anyone would just ditch a pretty gal like you.", his fingers drummed against the steering wheel. The way he said it was so natural.
"I don't know, maybe it was just a mistake. I can live with it.", you shrugged, inhaling deeply to take in your surroundings.
The jeep was clearly well taken care of; leather interior shined and the dashboard seemed so wiped over that you could see your reflection. His eyes darted towards you as he noticed your awe.
"It's a relic, really. Had it since I was 18.", he smiled to himself, patting the gearstick softly.
"It looks brand new, I wouldn't have guessed."
"My daddy bought it for me the moment I got my license, then at least a month after I was enlisted in the army..", his voice faltered and he swallowed, "I didn't see it for a good couple of years."
Graves sighed, "I don't want to bother you with my sob story, you didn't answer my question."
"What?", you looked back up at him, being caught off guard.
"You tell me..", he shot a cursory glance at you, "Why would someone ditch a pretty girl like you?"
The car slowed as you pulled up to tue familiar driveway that belonged to you.
"Oh, we're here already.", you mumbled, looking out the window. You were faintly disappointed, seeing as Graves had been revealing his life story to you.
"Well, maybe you can think on it for me then."
"I mean, you can come inside if you like."
He paused, chuckling, "Well, that's too kind. I don't want to bother you though."
"No, it's okay.", you smiled at him, "I don't bite."
"I don't reckon you do, sugar.", a smirk formed on his lips, "Now hold on, let me park in the driveway, you don't know the lunatics on these roads nowadays...", his voice shrank into a murmur as he leaned back, resting a toned arm on your seat for support.
You almost gasped at the sight of his arm - his polo shirt was fitted onto his firm biceps as his forearms had noticeable battle scars scattered across his skin, light veins ran from his knuckles up to his shoulders.
"Come on, baby... Come on..", he almost whispered to himself as the car reverse slowly into the driveway.
The jeep came to a stop as he now changed gear and unclipped his seat belt. You followed, getting out of the car and walking to your door and producing your keys from your pocket.
"Don't mind if anything looks... Out of order.", you turned the key as the door clicked and you pushed it open.
You kicked off your drenched shoes before guiding Graves to the living room.
"Don't worry, you wouldn't believe how messy the ranch can get at times.", he stepped inside, slipping off his shoes and following your lead through the house.
The lights flickered on as you both entered the living room. You immediately dropped onto the couch, resting your arms over your lap.
Graves seemed to find this amusing as he took a seat beside you, still glancing at you sprawled on the cushions.
"You seem to find this really funny."
He put a hand to his mouth, trying to hide his smile a little. "I don't know, I mean, what was the fuss about this guy anyway?"
"He...", you paused, chewing on the inside of your cheek, "He was nice.", you declared finally, sitting up.
"Is that so? Sugar, there are millions of nice men who wouldn't miss their first date with a pretty girl like you. And I'm sure at least half of them wouldn't leave you soaking in the rain."
He said it again.

"You keep saying that.", you retorted, getting out of your seat and looking down at him.
"Well, I mean it.", he shot back, not moving from his position.
"If you mean it so much then why don't you take me out on a date?", it was only supposed to be a witty comeback, but you feel like it may have come off too harsh.
"Okay. Maybe I will."
You both paused, making eye contact.
Graves got up slowly, smiling a little as he stood infront of you.
".. What?"
"I don't see why it's such a bad idea. It's not like I'm going to ditch you like that dickhead.." he'd moved closer now, you could hear his low breathing, slow and controlled.
"Graves..", was all you could muster before he cupped your face and kissed you gently.
His stubble grazed against your chin as his soft lips brushed against yours. You couldn't help but wrap your arms around him, running your fingers through his short hair.
It only lasted for less than a minute, yet it felt like forever.
You were the first to pull away - your heart was hammering against your ribcage, your breaths shallow and quick. His hands fell onto your shoulders, caressing them smoothly as you gathered the courage to speak.
"I don't think... I don't think that's a bad idea either.", you let out a laugh, smiling.
"Trust me, you won't regret it." he noticed your hands now holding onto his. Your fingers intertwining and your thumb rubbing circles into his hands carefully.
"Well, why don't you tell me about yourself, country bumpkin? You know, before we do anything else.."
He couldn't help but smirk, "Why? I think you should do the talking, sugar. I'm the one who asked you out in the first place."
"Fuck it - less talking, more kissing.", you immediately went to kiss Graves and he accepted it smoothly.

I went to the store.
My mom sent me 100sek less than she said. So I had to cut some stuff and accept that I'll not have money for the rest of the week.
I still got 2 6packs though. Cause if I hadn't I would've been even worse off.
I was supposed to start watching SVU while waiting for the bus, but my friend called. They were very upset, but at least it saved me from watching it.
Rant about him and my life

Once I got home I smoked 2 ciggies in the bathroom venting at him. About how I don't even care anymore and if I had the money I wouldn't talk to anyone anymore. And just let go of what I "need to do" to keep my life together. Just isolate and go back to being g drunk 24/7. Cause I just don't care anymore.
And I told him how I feel about him. How much I hate him etc. even though I know he knows. He's in my head. He knows all of what I think and feel. More than I do sometimes.
I just needed it said.
That's when I made my last post.
After that it was time to watch fucking SVU.
And I'm not even through episode 1 and already hate him for it. And myself.
I can't. I can't cope.
I hate myself for getting this way. For being sick. For being schizophrenic.
And for not listening to him when I should've.
I hate him for ruining my entire life ever since I first met him. Especially after I got sicker years ago and he came back.
But everyone keeps saying he's technically me. He's part of me. He's from my brain.
But he may be from my brain. But he's not me. Fuck that. He's not me. He's nothing like me and he's just horrific terrible scum.
Yet I can barely muster being mad at him anymore.

I'm more submitted, broken, and scared than angry.
That anger, fight, and animosity... It's almost all gone...
He broke me long ago.
And it only got worse over time.
I'm not even one cohesive identity anymore. Not to me.
I'm broken.
And people with abusers that "are real" can escape. There's hope. Somewhere in there you might escape. It might end one day.
But me with my "not real" abuser doesn't get that. For about 2 years I held on to hope.
"One day it'll all get better." And similar. I heard it so much I believed it deep down. That one day maybe it'll all end.
One day he'll stop. He'll go away again and I can start healing and making a life.
I don't have hope anymore.
Not anymore.
It's been at Least 2.5y.
At Least.
I suck at keeping track.
You break.
You fold.
You lose hope.
I can't run. He's in my head.
I can't go to the cops or a shelter. He's in my head.
The meds aren't enough to make it stop. (Maybe if I had a decent dr it could've worked.)
Therapy can't help me cause I'm Currently being controlled and abused, in every category of abuse.
I wish I were dead.
I wish I could k1ll myself.
But my younger brother died 2 years ago.
And since then I don't have it in me to k1ll myself.
Can't do that to my mom and brother. They can't lose us both.
So I'm stuck living.
In a hell scape that people want to just brush off and ignore. Cause to them it's not real. To them it doesn't matter.
It's real to me.
I experience it as if it were real.
But they don't treat me like that's what I'm dealing with.
And I can't even tell them outright myself.
Cause he won't allow me to talk about it. They know. More or less depending on who. But they don't treat it like that's the case. And they never will.
Cause they can't see the scars, rope burns, rashes, cuts, brandings...
They can't see him. Hey can't hear him.
It's not real to them.
It's not the same to them as if it were in shared reality.
I just wanna die.
I just want out.
I don't have a life to hold onto.
I'm just doing it cause I Have to.
Sorry for the rant....

I have another design school project for show and tell!! This is what I’ve been working on for the last month.
The brief for this assignment was to create a musical artist based on ourselves and, around that artist, create a campaign launch for their debut album including an artist and album concept, entire brand identity + logos, album artwork and CD/LP mockups, merch mockups, posters for billsticking and bus shelters, art for streaming services, social media mockups and a campaign launch timeline fitting all these pieces together. Sandwiching all of this was a pitch proposal and a final presentation, both which went really well for me (yay!).
My ‘artist’ is called Vitamin K ((a nickname given to me)) and the album is called Neon Noir, fitting somewhere in the artpop genre and exploring cyberpunk and virtual reality themes. I was influenced heavily by Gorillaz and Grimes when I was coming up with concepts for the theming and design.
This was a super fun project to do and I’m so keen to do more branding/logo/album cover design in the future!

Chapter Two
On the first freezing day of Autumn, I zip my coat all the way up to the top and shiver as I exit the apartment building, a huge, converted Georgian house that opens onto Fitzwilliam Square. My hands are stiff as I try to wrangle my bicycle loose from the iron railings out front, my condensed breath floating over my face to warm up my nose and cheeks. I swear under my breath as the key gets stuck, again, and then stand there jangling it madly for a minute before it releases and the heavy chain pools onto the concrete at my feet.
I’ve learned quickly that the trick to owning a bicycle in Dublin city is to get the cheapest bike you can find and then make it look even cheaper. Shane and I spent an evening destroying it in the bin yard a couple of weeks ago, stamping the pedals until pieces broke off, using spray paint in lurid colours to obscure the brand name and shiny red coat on the metal work. We wound duct tape around the saddle and the handlebars, which doubled as an anti-theft method, happily enough. It was a cathartic experience. Claire had come along with a sticker book and helpfully dotted the body with flowers and hearts and rainbows too, insisting that all thieves are men, and none of them will want a girl’s bike. I then went to the nearest bike shop and bought two locks, the most hard wearing and expensive ones they had, because nobody is going to pick two massive locks for the pathetic reward of a dinged up bicycle covered in stickers.
“It’s a rite of passage to have a bike stolen in the first month.” Shane had said with some sympathy after I cried at the college gates having discovered my brand new bike gone, only an easily sawed through lock pathetically coiled around the stand left as any evidence that it existed. “Sure, bits off my bike get robbed all the time. I had to cycle home from town without a saddle the other week. We’ll get you another one, I know a guy who deals them out of his ma’s garage.”
“Isn’t that kind of like contributing to the negative cycle?” I whimpered. “I bet all those bikes are stolen too.”
“Yeah probably, but, ah, sure. They’re only sixty quid.”
That’s how I ended up with this ‘new’ bike, and luckily, nobody has stolen its saddle yet. We made sure that it’d be so inconvenient that even the most hard-up, desperate thief wouldn’t come near any part of it, but as a payoff it’s so uncomfortable. It squeaks, the back brake doesn’t work and sometimes when I go too fast I feel as though I’m going to slide off it and bash my most private areas onto the crossbar, but it gets me where I need to go. In the cold, early morning in the mist and smell of turf I throw my leg over it and manoeuvre it out onto the road, my bag and drawing tube strapped across me, and zip up towards Baggot Street, then skirt around Stephen’s Green, the new, cold wind throwing icy daggers at my face as I weave in and out of traffic, eluding busses and taxis and pedestrians who keep crossing the road before it’s their turn. Rust coloured leaves drop onto the pavement before my wheels as I pass the flats along Kevin Street, children in tiny uniforms walking to school hand in hand with their parents.
“Use your arms!” A taxi driver screams at me as I swerve to the right ahead of him, and I ignore him, already used to men screaming at me on these streets, whether it’s because they think I’m cycling them wrong or because they have an opinion about my body that they’d like to share.
Dublin isn’t awful, but it’s harsh in ways I’m still unused to. When I visited it I saw it as more beautiful than it really is, but back then I only saw the shops, the parks, the huge Georgian houses, and now I see the back alleys too and the places that don’t feel all that wonderful. I’ve seen the yellow pallor of the people at the back of the bus, the men in alleyways who dare you to look in and see them so they can shout at you for doing it, women climbing into sleeping bags in the sheltered doorways of department stores for the night, battered paper cups set out hopefully in front of them as they curl up to sleep on the cold pavement.
I get shouted at a lot here too. By bus drivers, for not knowing how to use my Leap card properly, and by the people on said busses for standing or sitting in the wrong places, by taxi men for crossing the road at the wrong time, by screechy women in windows for throwing my chewing gum in the wrong bins. I apologise a lot more than I ever have now, which is really saying something.
I swerve down a bumpy, cobblestone side street and through the gates of NCAD, taking the time to chain my bike onto the same rack where its predecessor was nicked from, giving the locks a hard, intentional look as if I could intimidate them into staying put. Then I hurry inside and up the stairs, the central heating blasting over me so intensely that by the time I stumble into the studio I feel like a piece of ham wrapped in cling film. I drop my bag and drawing tube onto the floorboards by one of the drawing tables and start ripping my outerwear off in a frenzy.

The air is cool today as Roland sits at a bus stop waiting for the city bus to come pick him up. Never in a million years would he have expected that him running away at 17 would lead to him going to a flight academy at 19 years old. Hearing footsteps, he shifts his attention to his right, seeing Nero approaching. She’s got a box in her hand as well as a backpack and suitcase.
“Hi, worm.” She teases.
“Hola pendeja.” He snaps back.
“Choosing violence today?”
“Verbal violence really, and I think you started it.”
“I did, didn't I?” She ducks herself into the shelter of the bus stop. Sitting down with him, she gives him the box in her hand.
“What’s this?”
“A present from the StaHo.” She air quotes.
Roland opens the box, inside is a white mask with a blue square in the middle, above the square is the word ‘MODIFIED’.
He looks at Nero. “This is a joke right?”
“No, you’ll have to wear that if you ever go outside of the United States.”
“So I’ll be branded basically?”
“Hey!” Nero pulls out her own mask and puts it on, the word ‘HOSTILE’ is printed on it. “Mine looks worse.”
Roland leans away from her, as soon as she puts the mask on it’s like her feelings become completely unreadable. Roland doesn’t like it when he doesn’t understand the feelings of those around him, it makes the situation harder to control.
“Why?” The asks.
“Starkey, that’s why.” She removes the mask. “I’ve already been almost pepper sprayed for just existing, I can’t imagine what bad luck these masks will bring,” She looks back over at Roland’s mask. “At least in your case, no one will be threatened by you. Modified Recalls are considered the most docile.”
“What if I want to be a little threatening?”
“You don’t, outside of the U.S. some people will still consider you unwindable, if they can come up with your old paperwork they’ll make any excuse to get their hands on you.”
“And what about you?”
“I’m like recycled paper, you can’t exactly recycle it again.”
“Huh.”
The bus soon arrives and they both get on, after finding two seats midway through the bus they sit down, clutching onto their luggage.
“I noticed something earlier, you spoke to me in Spanish,” Nero remarks.
“Yeah, turns out my mom was speaking with her mother-in-law, I guess half of my family is Spanish,” Roland explains.
“You guess?”
“I know.”
“So, by proxy, you’re half…..?”
“Spaniard, I think I used to speak Spanish, but Mr. Taggart got rid of that in the same way he always does.”
Nero takes a moment to speak. “Belt?”
“Belt, I’m guessing, the fact that I couldn’t even remember half of my family was Spanish means that the correction was made a long time ago. He could’ve used something else at the time.”
Nero gives a sympathetic look. “Probably just an older belt.”
“Yeah, you’re right, who am I kidding.”
It takes about thirty minutes to get to the campus, turns out the academy was built into an on-site co-op building for a community college. ‘Makes sense.’ Roland thinks he had wondered why a three-month-long program was offering residency.
“I suppose we go into that building.” Nero points to a building, on the side of it in big text is ‘South Campus’.
They both head up to the building and get checked in, it looks like Nero will be on the third floor while Roland will be on the second.
“I guess no late-night chatting,” Nero comments.
“I feel like you’d find an unconventional way to get into my dorm,” Roland replies.
“I probably would.”
Arriving in his dorm a mousy boy is exiting the room to the left, he looks up at Roland and pauses.
“What?” Roland asks.
The boy scowls. “I bet someone like you gets a lot of women.”
“No I… I don’t.”
“Sure you don’t, someone as attractive as you is bound to get females.”
“Uhh…”
The boy goes back into his room, there’s a waft of pungent wind that exits as he slams the door. Trying not to vomit, Roland goes into the room to the right, he looks around, there’s a lifted mattress, a desk, and a clothing rack. Roland sets his stuff down and starts unpacking it, he stares at an outlet on the bare wall across from his bed, he wonders if the residential administration will let him plug in a wallflower.
A few girls are chatting in the hallway as she climbs to the third floor. They look at her funny as she passes through the girls-only section. Almost going all the way down the hall she stops at a room just before the second stairwell, at least she knows which one to use next time she comes to her dorm. Opening the door she’s met with a guy listening to music while downing a protein shake. He looks at her, and he’s amazed.
“Holy Hell! Nice muscles!”
Nero is taken aback. “Oh, thank you.”
“How’d you get all like that? I don’t mean this to sound rude, but you are a girl, right?”
Nero squints her eyes a little, analyzing the guy. Not everyone takes lightly knowing that Nero doesn’t consider herself one person, she supposes not even the people who seemed like they were in support of her took lightly to that knowledge. She decides that, for now, she is just a woman made of many parts.
“I was just made like this, it’s just about maintaining it.” She declares.
“Well, colour me impressed.”
Nero rolls her luggage to the empty room when the guy talks again.
“I was just about to go down to the gym, would you like to join me?”
Nero pauses for a moment, she does have her workout clothes on her, and her water bottle; she looks back up at the guy.
“You got fuel?”
The guy smiles and puts his finger up, he goes to search the mini pantry, pulling out a protein bar. “This good enough?”
“Yeah, I could get in a few reps with that.”
She and the guy, who she now knows as Carter, sit on a bench doing curls. Nero looks around the gym, there doesn’t seem to be many people.
“That’s Judy over there, she’s in her second year at college. I like being her hype man every so often.” Carter points to a bigger woman doing squats.
“Then there’s Trevor, he’s been here for a week in advance for the pilot Academy, I think you two would be in the same class.” He points to the shirtless guy using the butterfly machine. “I think he's a showoff, but I won’t tell him, if he leaves it’ll make it more awkward between Judy and I.”
“Not many people use this facility huh?”
“Oh, no people use it a lot on the weekdays, it’s just empty ‘cause it’s a Sunday.”
“Ah, good, this place isn’t going to waste.”
Crickets are chirping outside when Roland gets a notification from Nero.
How’s your day been? She had texted.
Terrible I’ve been roomed with an Incel, he seems to think I’m a fuckboy.
Oh no :(
I’m going to ask if I can plug in a wallflower. His room reeks so badly!

Roland steps over and flops onto his bed, he feels blessed that the pungent air hasn’t made its way into his room yet. If he can’t get something to plug in, he’ll want to change rooms as soon as possible.

Working in a big city again was a nice feeling, although she missed being in quiet Inaba where nothing of importance occurred now that the murder case was closed shut. She had her own private office, away from the public eye. Many seemed to fawn over Akechi Goro, but she didn't care about some celebrity like him.
Raindrops started falling from the sky while she was walking to the train station. Just her luck when she didn't bring an umbrella. Having no choice, she started running in search of shelter. The awning of a bus stop caught her eye and she immediately slipped under it, to her relief, shaking off the water on her brand new coat.
"The weather report didn't mention a chance of rain..." She sneezed on her arm and spotted a blonde teen looking at her. "Ah. Please ignore me. I'm fine." She hoped she didn't catch a cold, though.
