The butterfly that would choose the Void was named Vera, though that name has been forgotten by them after being sealed away for so many years. They do however, remember their role as the original Lord of Shades, and wish to help their successor succeed when they have failed.

Finally got them done! Since the void statues seem to draw a lot of inspiration from Dragon Head Caterpiillars, I made them look similar to the butterflies they turn into.

I've rambled about them here and their siblings here. Some extra notes and sketches are below the cut.

Their Shade Lord Form (which used to be mostly the form they look around the time of the sanctuary) is a bit different from Ghost's. They also kind of sort of accidentally influenced their growth in terms of headshape as well. They also really do not like the fact that they're, by default, the best parent in this situation.

For the most part, until they start to remember their form, and their body is recovered from the bottom of the Abyssal sea, they're literally just a churning blob any time they talk to Ghost in person. Once fully restored, their powers are still far less than what they used to be since they can't command the whole void anymore, but they're not helpless, and if anything it only makes them more able to teach Ghost how to be a God.

They also give lessons to Hollow on some things, if wanted, and is endlessly fascinated with things that were developed since their forced imprisonment.

okay now that i've had some time to process thtf, lemme just say the friendships in it were so so so so so- SO. there's no words. i feel like friendship is such an important theme in marauders era fics but it's usually so focused on the marauders themselves, other characters can get lost in the mix. but thtf!!! dorcas and pandora and dorcas and regulus !!!! even though they are NOT friends according to dorcas (you've been a friend to me i hope i've been a friend to you..... i cried) dorcas and emmeline! dorcas loving alice bc alice is mean! marlene and mary and lily!!!!! mary and dorcas bonding over not wanting to join the war! mary calling sirius out that their friendship w lily is important- that james and sirius's friendship isnt the only one that matters!!!!! lily threatening dorcas for marlene! marlene's last thoughts being not just dorcas but all her friends!!!

sidenote: thtf lily evans.... the woman that you are... she has edges, she has teeth, she is not perfect or good or noble, she is fighting to win a WAR, she is protecting her son, she is NOT SORRY ABOUT IT, she has DEPTH

yes yes yes the friendships were very important to me in thtf i'm so happy that u appreciated them <3 honestly it's kind of a weird balance bc like...the story is centered around dorcas + marlene + their relationship, right? but on like a personal level outside of the story i very much do not vibe with the way that romantic relationships are so heavily prioritized in society, and i feel as though having deep and meaningful platonic relationships is honestly more important than finding like ur ~one true love~ or whatever. like i think a lot of people would be a lot happier if they stopped feeling like they need to seek out a romantic life partner or they'll be lonely forever and instead started viewing romantic relationships as like...a possibility rather than a necessity. so even though i was writing about a romantic relationship and that was the focus of the story i didn't want to diminish the importance of any of dorcas or marlene's other relationships, which is why i took a lot of detours throughout the chapters to write scenes of them with their friends instead of each other lol

and so happy u appreciated the slightly-fucked-up lily!! i've talked abt her character in some other answers on this blog so i won't go on and on but writing her love, which is like the central aspect of her character in canon, as kind of scary and ruthless rather than gentle and sweet was something i really wanted to explore in the story, and i'm happy that it resonated w u! <3
