hello, i love your blog! i was wondering, is robin: son of batman a good place to start reading about damian, for someone who pretty much just know the basics about him? i know the actual beginning would be somewhere in morrison's run, but r:sob really catch my attention :p

short-ish answer:

i read Damian’s comic appearances/runs in a bonkers order when i first started, and i think R:SOB was one of the easier places to jump in!! it’s a fairly isolated adventure that encapsulates a lot of what makes Damian as Robin so charming!!

Gleason’s pitch for this series was basically “Damian on a journey with a bat dragon as his muscle lol :)” and then proceeded to create a story that puts you through a roller coaster of fun!! and emotion!!

there’s a bit of history to some of the characters that appear, but it’s summed up quickly so you’re not totally confused!

Maya is a new character introduced in this run! her father, Morgan Ducard, was killed by Damian during the arc “Born to Kill” in Batman and Robin (2011) #1-8 another solid entry point into reading Damian!

Talia was killed in the same arc as Damian’s own death in Batman Incorporated (2013) #1-13. after a series of events in which Ra’s steals Talia’s and Damian’s bodies from their graves, Talia is revealed to have revived and now hangs around Nanda Parbat with no memories (Batman and Robin (2011) #29-32, Robin Rises: Omega, Batman and Robin #33-37, Robin Rises: Alpha)

last post of the year, here's my 2023 art summary ✨ { some reflections below ]

compared to previous years, its a bit of a slow one this year due to my personal commitments and zine projects (of which i joined 12 i think).

that being said, the work i've made this year has been some of my favourites tho ^-^ i can't share most of them yet since they're still in zine creation but I hope to share them when I'm allowed!! still, I'm ending the year a bit conflicted art wise. i didn't really challenge myself this year, so I hope I can do that in 2024 and get out of my comfort zone.

omg nonnie i’ve thought abt this before !! i def think so hehe <3; dazai would def do tht so he could flirt w/ you in your native language…hearing him say the words in the tongue you’re most familiar w/ flusters you even more than usual (& he knows tht.) (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵) + when he says something like “i love you” in your language bcz in tht way, the words hold its ultimate meaning toward you if tht makes sense ?? basically he wants to communicate in a way tht’s most understandable & meaningful to u esp when he wants to reassure his feelings abt you.

fyodor def would, & ofc he would surprise you in fluency too. :’) you’d meet him one time & suddenly he would greet you in your language, (near-)perfectly too LOL. i feel like as he’s learning, he would incorporate some of ur words into his conversations w/ you too. or when he’s writing/saying something romantic to u…he’d go “…or how else can i say it? [translates hehe].” now you’d have to learn his language, bcz sometimes he says things in russian u don’t know ;).

ok LMFAO I have a lot of nitpicks on this article being as I am a domain expert but it's an interesting overview. very very little analysis and Gould only barely brushes against the reasonings I've landed on for why these books: "books with monster heroes allow readers to safely explore sexual inclinations that they might otherwise feel some shame around." and "Seeing these brooding and powerful men completely simp over their women is fantastic... I think a lot of women just want to feel safe in relationships, but still be able to have that excitement.” both of those are actually just quotes from sources. but otherwise I'm interested to see what kind of discourse this spawns! let's get into it! check out my AHU posts for more!!

This is based in Rebirth/Infinite Frontier but it overlaps with other eras cause yk. Comics. Where possible I tried to put the original comic/arc instead of the Rebirth comic where it was referenced or shown in a flashback, since most of the Rebirth timeline prior to like Year 16-17 is shown via flashbacks or references. Cause again. Comics.

Also this is almost entirely based on info from the Batman Chronology Project I just pulled out the Batjokes bits.

going to keep this vague on purpose but playing reload has reactivated brain chemicals in me that i forgot i had.

i think i'd want to make a more thought out post later, but i think my favorite thing about reload (aside from seeing minato in full HD glory) is how much it's made me think about video games as a storytelling medium- specifically with what mechanics and game design imply for characters.

there's a lot of quality of life features added to reload that help players easily enter a flow state and get immersed in the gameplay (most notable with tartarus)! which is so dope! reload has been such a nice blend of the mechanics from both FES and portable and it feels like a love letter to persona 3 fans.

there are definitely mechanics i miss from FES (minato's ability to wield multiple weapons being one of them). i can't deny that FES has some dated mechanics that don't necessarily feel fun for the player experience... but!

i think i mostly miss things from FES because i feel like so much of minato's characterization (for me) was informed by the gameplay experience and mechanics (e.g. fatigue system). obviously there's still other ways you can put together his personality (his dialogue responses), but i think game mechanics are a bit part of it, for me.

but in spite of that, i think reload is a really nice introduction to persona 3, it's so much more accessible and has a bunch of things to help make it more fun :) so far i think i'd recommend it to people :D
