I didn't realize this wasn't consensus, but as far as I'm concerned Roger abandoned Ace and Rouge, and leaving them to Garp was not remotely enough. He had a year. He could have protected her, found a safe place for her, and been there when Ace was born. She wouldn't have killed herself holding him in.
It's entirely his fault that Ace grows up hating him. If he had protected him and Rouge before he died, Ace would have grown up with a mother who could have told him better stories about his father. He could have grown up proud of him, if Roger was a responsible father with his last year of life.
Roger clearly did whatever he wanted, and that's why he was so connected to Garp, who is basically an older, black mirror government officer version of Luffy. There's a core personality trait that runs between the three of them. It's that utter selfishness, carefree attitude, taken to an insane degree.
Garp didn't parent Ace well either! Neglected him, told him he had to create his worth, instead of seeing a deeply hurt child and saying something comforting or helpful for once in his fucking life. He let Ace be killed, knowing he was a kind gentle person, instead of letting go of his place in an institution of injustice.
(After watching them target Ace, personally I didn't think you could make any argument that Garp doesn't know The World Government is an unjust institution. But now that we've seen him casually watch them commit a genocide and do nothing to stop it, I suspect I'm not gonna have to suffer this rose-tinted view of Garp as much.)
There's a clear message here. Earlier I stated that it's because Garp works for the government that he's callous to the suffering of others, and I still think that's definitely true in part, but Roger shows that just being on the outside of that institution doesn't turn a selfish, carefree person, kind. I mean, he also showed up to that genocide, but we only see him fight for something valuable rather than save anyone.
Ace and Sabo both represent those left behind in both ways of life. Ace of course is a victim of Roger's prioritization of his own desires over people. Sabo is a victim of the government's prioritization of the desires of a select few over all other people.
("All other people", of course includes the children of nobles, who, like all children in societies that give their guardian's complete legal dominion over them, are an incredibly vulnerable population at highest risk of all kinds of abuse from inside their family.)
The difference between Roger & Garp, and Luffy, is that Luffy grew up with Ace and Sabo. He grew up loving them and caring about the ways that they were hurt.
You can't imagine Luffy abandoning anyone, or sacrificing other's freedom.
Also, fuck Roger and Garp. They're enjoyable characters and the way things happened obviously makes the younger characters who they are and makes for a great story, but ohhh my god. Fuck those guys!!!!! It's their own damn fault!!!!

I see a lot of meta talking about how the John Verses are John telling the story of the leadup to the apocalypse with the most sympathetic biased self-justifying gloss to make it sound like nothing was his fault, and I guess that's why so many readings go for a hardline worst-faith interpretation of them, but.... I don't really see it.
When he tells about how he murdered everyone who had a gun, he could have played up the self-defense angle. He could have claimed he was scared, and he did it to protect everyone. He could have emphasized that he was killing cops, instead of emphasizing the civilians. He could have stuck with the story he told at the time, that he freaked out and made a mistake and hadn't meant to kill them all. He doesn't. He admits to mass murder, and he admits to having done it because he was angry. And he admits to still not regretting it one bit.
The story John tells just doesn't paint him in the best possible light. He does include all of the justifications he used at the time, he does explain why on earth any of this ever seemed like a good idea to anyone, and he does want to be understood, but he doesn't really try to sell it as having been right.
I really don't see the verse chapters as being John's justification. They're his confession. That's why they feel so good to condemn.

you just KNOW that all the underlings who aren't "in the know" believe that something's fishy between gicheol and seungho.
the big boys know there's a cop woman that gicheol is in love with. at least, they can explain away all the secret meetings gicheol keeps taking seungho for by assuming that gicheol is meeting the police woman and doesn't want them to know.
but the other men? they know NOTHING about semi. they don't even know she exists. all they know is that this new guy showed up and now he's sleeping in the room beside their boss (which means that when they all go home, the boss is alone with seungho for hours). and he won't go anywhere without seungho. they also know that the boss keeps logging "meetings" that he won't explain and he keeps taking this new guy.
NOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN THEY SHOWED UP TO THE HOSPITAL, THIER BOSS LOOKED LIKE A WIDOWER IN MOURNING.
the things they think are happening would put ao3 writers to shame.

Number one Ada Wong fan I’m scurrying up to you as a pathetic lover of the blonde sad lil guy. I just wanted to know. Why do you think Ada kissed him in re2??????????
Ada showed signs of genuinely being attracted to Leon, though maybe not as much as he clearly was to her. That being said, I honestly think it was a tactic that she considered would be effective in getting Leon to stop talking, and also giving him the boost of confidence he was clearly in need of. She could tell he was attracted to her (who wouldn't be😩), and even if those feelings might've been reciprocated in the slightest, Ada would never have allowed herself that kind of affection if it wasn't advantageous to her situation. Maybe she also enjoyed it a little, but her purpose for kissing him was to encourage him to finally get off her back in a way that would be helpful to her. Leon spends the entire game after they meet trying to follow Ada around and "help" her when she never asks for it nor needs it, and even when she eventually allows him to tag along, it's reluctant - and she's always on edge, always looking for a way out. She knew they'd have to separate eventually, and the the sooner the better, because Leon was not just a cop, he was also a naïve young man who wanted to be the hero, and that was detrimental to Ada's mission from the start.
Ada is incredibly smart and perceptive, and so she realises about halfway through that her tactics to get Leon off her back have all failed and only gotten him to want to help her more. So she switches gears, allows him along, starts to actually care about him against her will, and then realises that because of Leon's hero instincts, she could get him to help from a distance by playing up her injury. She never goes so far as to be out of character (telling him not to push it when he offers to carry her) but she definitely could've completed her mission without him, and when she walks up to him towards the end, she's hardly limping. But despite wanting to help her the whole time, when she finally gives Leon something to do, he begins arguing that he shouldn't get involved (which is what Ada was telling him the whole time. Lol.) Whether he was aware of it or not (and he honestly probably wasn't aware of it) he was looking for her validation, he just wasn't giving her the chance to say anything. So she shut him up with a kiss, that he very much liked, and used his dazed state to encourage him.
Again, I'm not saying she didn't also enjoy it - we know she certainly cared a lot about him, to the point where she was willing to forfeit her entire mission just because she couldn't kill him. (And I could also talk forever about how faking her death was not just to benefit her but also to help Leon move on but that's another discussion). My point is that Ada wouldn't have kissed Leon just because she wanted to. She'd have to have another reason, another motive that was pertinent to her job, in order to do something like that. And her guess was right, because it worked in her favour.
We do also have to be aware of capcom's misogyny, and how they've always used Ada's character to be the mysterious, sexy love interest of Leon's and nothing else. Now she does get to be more, she does get to be her own character, but they still can't stop tying her to Leon. So this explanation of mine is an attempt to explain the in-game reasoning behind Ada's actions as a character, ignoring capcom's reasoning of having Ada kiss Leon just because they wanted that to happen all along. If that makes sense
Thank you for this ask!!! I love Ada asks

Are we meant to look at this picture and feel anything other than insurmountable rage? Immigrants and disabled people are treated as greedy scroungers, and then the shitglobs in charge spaff £billions so they can better kill people in pointless wars, and announce this by posing with things designed only to destroy.
They forced through the Rwanda deportation bill yesterday. A policy that achieves nothing but unspeakable cruelty, targeting people who have already gone through countless horrors to get here. A policy that will cost £1.8 million for each person bundled onto a flight. The government says that there's no money for infrastructure or disabled people or renewable energy, but they're willing to pay an ungodly sum just to torture some immigrants? I mean, I'm not surprised, just appalled.
There's been an article floating about about some right wing teacher's (probably fake) account of having his entire class say 'yes' when he asked them if they hate Britain.
He of course was outraged. But it seems to me to be the only sane answer. What worth is there in a country so dedicated to pointless cruelty?
Happy Saint George's Day.

iv been doing a lot of ddadds reminiscing lately. that game is very very close to my heart and has been for years - it's kind of surreal to return to the fancontent i made for it having grown a bit, and seeing precisely why i latched onto mary as a character as much as i did. (hmm, the guy who'd just gotten out of a bad relationship and was also an unknowing aroace latched onto the character with relationship troubles and conflicts about presenting as someone in love, who would've thought?) (also she's autistic) (i'll still fight people on this)
mary still continues to be one of my favorite characters of all time - and i still have dream daddy to thank for a lot. it's just such a genuinely warm and sweet and funny game. it's got such a kind and lackadaisical approach to adulthood that spoke to and continues to speak to me a lot as someone kind of terrified of growing up, in a lot of ways. and despite being such a silly game, joseph's ideals of the "margarita zone" spoke to me way more than i care to admit.
i wonder if the people i'd shared ddadds servers with and the like, way back in 2019, are doing well. i wonder if the old friend i did that batshit insane mary-damien cult ending rp with that read like a damn slasher film remembers it at all. i hope the people i talked about my ocs with are doing well. i hope the mary rper i lurked on the blog of is doing well. i hope the person who made the official character spotify playlist knows how much they shaped my music taste and how much i listen to them to this day. i hope the developers of this game know it's more than a silly gimmick dating sim that was popular for a year to people. (i hope they know how much damn gender euphoria it gives me lol)
i'm a huge sap with my fandoms in general. but dream daddy's such a spot of comfort for me even now. i still think about it, and maybe one day i'll properly revisit it. and i know i'm going to be so insufferable about it when i do. my own special little margarita zone.

jumping into your inbox to say that i loved carcinogenesis! i read it before author reveals, and i wasn’t surprised at all to see it was yours. :P
OMG THANK U.... this is so nice ❤️ tbh i always feel like I am So Obvious in anon exchanges but. it is what it is!!!
That fic was a blast to write, I got to explore many long held headcanons about necromancy, Cytherea's cancer fueled body horror and assosiated interactions with necromancy, the original ascension etc while ALSO throwing in some new stuff I thought of on the spot/have been inspired about more recently.
fun fact also, i was editing that fic up until the last hour before work reveals and ended up doing a major thematic overhaul and adding 700-odd words, so i was SUPER nervous for ppl to read it but I really like the dimension those last minute changes ended up adding to the fic :3
link here (2.7k, rated M for gore)
