3, who was desperate for praise from someone who reminds them of their direct relatives, does everything he says to do just to be appreciated more.

Cuttlefish taught them how to fight hand to hand. How to move and think on their feet. (Though they were given similar in their younger years)

Cuttlefish was... generally more warm and supportive than their dad, but yknow. A lot of this started bc 3 agreed to work for him. Be his deadly weapon.

Cuttlefish was more concerned abt the Zapfish than 3s well-being then... He knew that the constant praising was working so hes gonna keep doing it. (...mostly bc thats what worked on HIM back then)

After 3 does his dirty work, he realized he should probably keep the kid around bc his paranoia with Octaria is a damn bitch and this kid is one hell of an ass kicker. They dont mind. Right??

3 never showed any sign of wanting to leave. Why would they, he was so kind to them, more than their dad or grandad ever was. (Also the paranoia rubbed off on them. Oops!)

Then, he asked them to go on a longer patrol with him. Pushed them to their fucking limit. Bc of what?? Octaria making moves again? (Octavio did make moves but they were already, as we say in the game, "too far from the objective to really contribute to the fight". This is why agent 4 was dragged in.)

There, 3 saw more and more that hes just a loony old man who wanted to have a fancy weapon to protect him in his crusade. A crusade they never really questioned, mind you. Theyve no reason to believe Octaria was nice in any way, not when they keep trying to kill them. (...in self defense. They havent realized, yet.)

Then they encounter 8, who had dropped her weapon at the sight of them. Raising her hands in surrender. 3 was far ahead of the coot, and managed to actually talk to her and everything. They were this close to bringing her back to Inkopolis as a friend, until the bastard ruined the moment.

Cuttlefish still told them that she was a danger. It might be a trick! Dont put your guard down! Pressured to follow their superior, 3s mask returns to their face, turning onto 8 with the herl shot ready to fire.

Then they all tumbled into the metro.......

....for Cuttlefish to use yet ANOTHER kid (8) to get him out of a hairy situation.

I saw this really great thread on twitter by Grungygrim and it definitely highlights my thoughts and frustrations with the story of these games and the Splatoon fandom as a whole. (be forewarned, i get really tilted in this blog post fyi.)

I made a blog post about 2 weeks ago where i said that i was happy that the narrative online that "Callie is an idiot who got kidnapped and then brainwashed/mind controlled against her consent" is going away. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to retract a lot of the stuff i said. I'm still seeing, TILL THIS DAY THAT NARRATIVE ONLINE! IM STILL SEEING SO MUCH MISINFORMATION AND IT MAKES ME REALLYYYY ANGRYYYY!!! As a big fan of Callie, people completely outright ignoring her character arc THAT WAS SET UP SINCE SPLATOON 1 BY THE WAY!!! and not even bothering to look at outside sources for more information and lore genuinely pisses me the fuck off to no end.

No, hypnosis is NOT MIND CONTROL/BRAINWASHING! I DONT WANNA KEEP REPEATING IT! YOU CAN LOOK IT UP! if a person is genuinely uncomfortable and doesn't wish to take the suggestions to heart while hypnotized, THEY WONT DO SO! THEY STILL HAVE CONTROL! Yes, Marie did say "kidnapped" in some of her dialogue, but from her perspective, OF COURSE SHE'S GONNA THINK CALLIE GOT KIDNAPPED! She's known to worry about Callie all the time and ruminate about her, of course she's gonna think of the worst case scenario, doesn't mean she's right though. Was Octavio still in the wrong for hypnotizing Callie in the first place and allowing her to bring out her darker traits more easily? YEAH! NO SHIT! HE'S A BAD DUDE! Not a totally evil person but he has made some awful decisions out of desperation for his people. Why do you think he was so quick to help out the New Squidbeak Splatoon in the finale of Splatoon 3? His people got turned into fluffy monsters by a giant bear, he's all about helping his people.

Hell look at how Callie acts while under the Hypnoshades, she decorates Octo Canyon and her peppy and energetic self is still in tact even during the final boss, she's just more mean and violent. Callie was in an emotional and mentally unwell situation due to her overworking herself and being incredibly lonely as her relationship with Marie was damaged overtime. Callie accepted the suggestions of DJ Octavio and heard him out, AS SAID BY HER FROM THE RELATIONSHIP CHART! She wasn't forced into anything. She didn't suffer "sexual abuse" from Octavio by being forced into skippy clothing as some psychos say online, if she didn't want to wear that outfit she wouldn't cause hypnosis is NOT MIND CONTROL!! I hate having to repeat this over and over again, i hate how the developers basically rushed and ruined this interesting villain arc with stupid shades, only to try and hastily fix it later with an obscure post about A GOD DAMN RELATIONSHIP CHART THAT PEOPLE EITHER DONT KNOW ABOUT OR DONT CARE TO LOOK AT BECAUSE THEY SEE SPLATOON AS SOMETHING FOR KIDS AND TO NOT GIVE ANY CARE TOWARDS!!!!!!!!

I made a god damn giant blog explaining Callie in Splatoon 2 because i felt so frustrated about how my favorite character in the series was being treated and i tried to salvage the story that the writers tried to make. The way that people made her situation worse by saying she got kidnapped and forcibly ""mind controlled/brainwashed"" actually gave me chest pain, thinking about that kind of scenario for Callie actually hurts me... Heck i cant even listen to the Splatoon 2 stage music or final boss music because hearing her reversed vocals makes me feel uncomfortable due to the misinformation online. I hated all the misinformation and i wanted it to stop. HELL EVEN IN GIANT TIMELINE VIDEOS WHERE PEOPLE DO TONS OF RESEARCH THEY STILL GET IT WRONG!! UGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! i guess it'll still be the common and popular notion that Callie is an idiot that got kidnapped and then ""mind controlled"" by some shades... oh well... ugh...

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as really angry, i am. It's just, my brain is really hyperfixated on this squid and she means a lot to me. Seeing the way the fandom as well as the writers treat her makes me really mad. I hope i can find some peeps who feel the same way as i do. I Hate Octavio With All Of My Heart

I'm genuinely so pissed about Octavio being at the grand fest at all. Like it's genuinely a serious hampering on what is otherwise a really nice event. It's even worse that cuttlefish is there. This genuinely severely lowers my opinion of the Splatoon writers.

So like. On its face, I despise the general angle of going easy on Octavio. It's not headcanon that he's objectively a pretty terrible person for a lot of reasons- like, it feels very intentional that one is meant to read it like Octavio is an old war vet who's artificially keeping the "us vs them" mentality of the great turf war. It feels intentional that one is meant to read him as a very vain and controlling person who actively spreads propaganda (see Splatoon 1). It feels intentional that, at the *VERY* least, what Octavio did to Callie in Splatoon 2 was Bad, if not Morally Reprehensible. It feels like, with the way Octarian society is described in Octo Expansion and Side Order, we're textually meant to read the hyper-militarization of their society as a bad thing.

I feel like, if Splatoon was ultimately intending to present Octavio as a morally grey antihero type of character, they have completely and utterly failed to do so. Merely having him be the leader of Octarians doesn't implicitly make him a good guy just because Octarians are oppressed- Octavio is obviously, on some level, a figure with political power in Octarian society. Octo Expansion largely served to show that the surface world has progressed past the conflict of the Great War- so if Octarians are still facing oppression, that only really falls into the hands of the Octarian elite. If the intent was EVER to imply that that doesn't define Octavio, they made literally no effort to show it.

All of this being said, you could still argue that Octavio's help in Splatoon 3's ending is meant to represent him turning a new leaf- It's an argument that I'd still fervently disagree with, but you could hypothetically make that argument.

Except Splatoon also doesn't make that argument. Literally one line Marie says in the post-game has her posit that Octavio might have turned a new leaf- A line I've always hated, but it feels as though the game has just sort of ignored the busywork of actually showing that any change has been made to the primary antagonist of the franchise and has just leapt to the conclusion because Octavio has done one vaguely morally good action ever- an action done to save the planet, which obviously is also in his own personal best interest.

Isn't Octavio, like, a threat? Like, he literally has a criminal record and is a military leader, why is he allowed at this venue?

Moreover, why are Octavio and Cuttlefish suddenly chummy?

The fact that Octavio is sat with Cuttlefish makes this feel like a cheap, hollow gesture to appeal to the fandom- like, yeah, people like to ship cuttlefish and octavio, but that's not, like... basis to decide what the canon is? Like, you need to actually establish their relationship in the canon first, you need to show them interacting together LITERALLY A SINGLE TIME BEFORE JUST ACTING LIKE THEY'RE BEST FRIENDS WHEN EVERY SINGLE PREVIOUS INTERACTION BETWEEN THEM WAS DIRECTLY ANTAGONISTIC.

And, just to reiterate: I DESPISE the idea of shipping the two of them. Not for any moral reasons, I just personally find both characters wretched people. But like, if you wanted to do this, you should actually do it? Instead of just plopping a literal war criminal in the middle of a venue as if it's totally fine. Like I genuinely despise that he's here. It's so fucking lame.

I think if you actually give a shit about Octavio's character, you should be pissed too. Like... They're just acting like they've totally redeemed Octavio and he's gone through a whole redemption arc when he's done literally ONE GOOD THING EVER, and it was still something exclusively for his personal gain (the planet not being destroyed). This is pretty major character development they're just not actually bothering to do or explain they're just sort of shoving him and cuttlefish together as if that instantly makes them best friends. It's so fucking lame and pandering, it feels like the end of a cheap kids movie where they have a funny dance party and the main antagonist is also there for no reason.

Like, I genuinely gotta wonder, is it my fault? Am I the one who doesn't see the textual evidence of Octavio being a good guy, somehow? Have I somehow missed something? Because it genuinely feels like a complete rejection of how they've characterized him up to this point, to just suddenly act like Octavio has been redeemed and there's totally nothing wrong with being his best friend. Like I feel like I've been playing a different Splatoon Franchise than anyone who'd think that's normal.

Splatoon has had a huge influence on my art style and well...my life-

It's sad to see the first game go after all of these years. Splatoon was my childhood, i remember playing it for the first time back when i was 8 lol!

I remember making an agreement with my dad that if i did my homework he'd beat octavio for me, and he did, i ran around the house screaming "HE DID IT!!!!!". I was a simple kid.

When splatoon 2 came around i absolutely lost it when i saw marina i was like "HOLY FUCK IS THAT AN OCTOLING?!?!", and I'll admit, marina was my number 1 favorite at the time. Now i love both pearl and marina! And i was so happy to see callie and marie again! Ngl marie is my favorite squid sister:3

Oh man...Octo expansion.

Needless to say i screamed...a lot...out of happiness!! I never expected to play as an octoling like ever! And when i saw agent 3 again i was so so happy. And man. That smile eight gave three at the end of the octo expansion. I instantly shipped it.

As for splatoon 3...i was excited but a lil salty about it because i couldn't get it at first- it eventually grew on me though! The story mode was pretty good! It's nice to see the characters grow up with you! I would like to throw lil buddy into the sun, in a good way!!!

Side order HAS A CHOKE HOLD ON ME OMGGGG- Side order is amazing! I wish it was a bit more like the concept art in the teaser! It's still so goooddd. I cried out of happiness when i saw the teaser and trailers!

Aaannnddd for coroika! I went to my partners house once and saw they had one of the coroika books and was like "THERE'S A SPLATOON MANGA?!" and proceeded to buy the entire series- i think its goofy! I don't care if it's a kids book I'm so invested in it lmao-

In conclusion. Splatoon is the best thing in the universe. (my opinion ofc!!)

So true! Octavio is fucking massive in game! He might be twice or trice as tall as Cuttlefish. I think he was even bigger in Splatoon 1's hero mode, though I may be misremembering.

Ok so I have religiously play the Splat 2 story mode and the Splat 3 story mode, and something doesn't add up (kinda). How did DJ Octavio escape? I think I have an idea, and if it actually happens, I might scream (bc I'm probably not right about it lol).

If we replay the boss fight, we learn that the Hypno-shade are not only still in-tact, but also in a readily available area (seeing as Callie puts them back on again simply bc they look cool)

We also know that Callie and Marie left Octo Canyon, leaving DJ Octavio and presumably Agent 4

We don't know how DJ Octavio got out of his snow globe (or maybe we do and I'm just not remembering)

So my theory? Agent 4 is wearing the Hypno-shades.

Dj Octavio is very smart, and he was very upset to learn about the disappearance of his troops (which, how did he learn this in the first place?)

We've seen all of the other major characters in Splatoon 3, including Agent 3 and Agent 8

How about some angst. After seeing how skilled Agent 4 is in defeating him, DJ Octavio has Maya kidnapped and uses his hypnoshades(he makes them harder to take/shoot off) to turn her into his perfect soldier. How would the squidbeak splatoon react.

Very funny fact I actually had a plot line like this in a splatoon fic I had YEARRSS ago like in my wattpad days😭 (it’s deleted on there now tho lol). I’ve also kinda made art for this idea with that one bad end agents piece I did ages ago but I never put more thought into it aside from drawing it.

Obviously this would be pre splat3 considering Octavio wouldn’t do this splat3 - post splat 3 cus busy in the desert and then redemption arc, so tldr this won’t include neo 3 or deep cut.

Most prominently Marie would fucking FREAK out. Since you word it as it’s after he sees how skilled she is at defeating him and we can see he’s obviously capable of getting out again, this would probably not be long after the end of splat2’s storymode and Marie who is still coping with losing Callie and just now getting her back would NOT handle this well, like even just realizing Maya is missing and Octavio’s out would completely set her off. Callie would be panicking almost as much as she’s also very much still recovering and now has to deal with facing Octavio all over again because there’s no way she’d let Marie get her back alone. Add Craig Eight and Three into the mix with them coming back from octo expansion; Ashley is essentially just like “oh wow cool new agent- anddd already a new member of the brainwashed club got it.” Lucky I think would choose not to get involved and leave it to the others and Craig is essentially just “WTF happened while I was gone.”

Going into a scenario where it’s farther in the future though so everyone’s already built connections: Ashley is PISSED more than anything because of her already strained and broken relationship with Octavio and this would make it a million times worse, along with being angry that their girlfriend has to go through another thing in her life. Seeing her actually brainwashed and being that perfect soldier would be what gets that anger to turn into just fear, because it’s a similar reflection of herself under Tartar’s control.

Lucky knows Maya can handle herself, but she’s more scared for her than she’s willing to admit, considering she has no memories of her former leader and only has the stories everyone else has shared of what he’s done, and she’s never gone out of her way to interact with him. Similar to Ashley, seeing her brainwashed from the glasses just reminds her of her fight with three in the elevator, but similar to then she’s more willing than the others to fight her to try and yank those glasses off her face.

I don’t think Marie would be able to even properly fight her. I think she’d still feel guilty about shooting Callie in the face even though it needed to be done, so having to actually go outright fight her daughter would be way too much to the point that I don’t think she could even bring herself to do it. Her focus would be more on trying to snipe down Octavio in the background of the fight if he’s there, and if not, letting the others handle Maya so she can go hunt him down while his “perfect soldier” is distracted, mostly because she can’t even stand to stay there and see her like that and she’d want to still be useful. Callie I think would be in a similar situation with Marie, but staying behind anyways. She knows how disorienting it is to come down from being brainwashed and I think she’d focus on that and staying behind at the fight to be there for Maya when they get the glasses off to keep herself distracted from how horrible she feels about this even happening to her.

SplatoonMG4 CHAPTER 2: I Am Afraid Of Spamming If I Post All My Completed Chapters At Once

(3rd person POV)

Miserable was the best word to describe SMG3 right now. Well, not really, it was more like miserable-looking.

SMG3's two back tentacles were tied in a crooked ponytail, barely keeping its shape and dripping ink. The larger, split one that hung in front of Three's left eye was more annoying, though, because it kept blocking his vision no matter how many times he pushed it aside. Cod, how the fuck did the soldiers fight like this? It didn't help that the Octoling also had no real gear aside from his one Octobrush.

He weakly splattered the ground with an attack and melted into the puddle to refill his ink. He almost didn't want to go back to his Octoling form and just stay here, but he had a journey to complete.

If only he'd been able to figure out how to change the NSS's Superjump spots...then maybe he wouldn't be trudging through an ugly fake plastic forest. Why did this place even exist?! No one cares about the random-ass things Octavio put around here to mimic the surface...

SMG3 sighed and rubbed the ink-splotch wounds on his arms. He was a fucking idiot to think that once he was free, none of the soldiers would notice. He could just walk through Suction-Cup Lookout like nothing happened.

Well, nothing he could do about it now.

He just wished...they didn't use that stolen Low-Tide ink, the kind that stains you. So you can't just heal by submerging in ink.

What do I do now?

Nothing mattered anymore. Why did he ever leave?... No...he couldn't go back, he could never go back... why was he thinking like the Hypnoshades were still poisoning his mind? He wondered if he was broken. Would he have been fixed right if he heard the 'heavenly melody' everyone was talking about?

No. There wasn't any time to think about shit. He just had to run and keep going and not stop until he was at the surface before the Low-Tide ink seeped in-

There- there it was, he found it! Cephalon HQ was his last hope. They had a way for him to get to Tentakeel Outpost, right?! He didn't know if it was true, but he had to believe...there it was, a Superjump launchpad...

He...he had to reach it before...

No-

He collapsed to the ground and cried out in pain as the Low-Tide ink, having finally taken effect, twisted his body. Melting, melting, melting into something- something small and purple and so helpless without access to an Octobrush, or any allies...

The last thing SMG3 saw before he passed out was a group of Octolings headed toward him...

And...behind them all, faintly, a rush of blue ink...

It all sounded like gibberish to SMG3, who only understood Runic. But there was something about this Round that sounded...familiar.

Oh shit it's Agent Four-

The Octoling started to panic, quickly sitting up before the pain all over his body came back to him. "Fuck!" he hissed, squeezing his eyes shut.

"[Oh, he's awake!]" said another Agent. SMG3 didn't recognize her, but she had long orange tentacles and a Splattershot. Unarmed and not knowing how to defend himself against an armed opponent like this, he didn't move. He just sat there in fear, but it looked more like defiance because of his resting bitch face.

And then...wait, how many people were here? A...another Octoling(?!) was here, this one had long pink tentacles pulled up in pigtails. She didn't look like she had any weapons, which was unusual for an Octarian, but maybe she wasn't from the Canyon. Maybe the Valley? No, not that either... she was walking up to him now.

"Hey, you," she said. Huh. She was. Very tall. And intimidating. Like she didn't even need a weapon to splat someone. "Do you speak Runic? I'm assuming you do, right?"

SMG3 was glad to finally be able to understand someone here! "U-uh, yeah, I do! What's going on? What are they saying?" he asked, his eyes darting from person to person, trying to make sense of whatever the fuck was going on.

"Calm down, we're not your enemies. I'm Saiko." Saiko. That was definitely not a normal Octarian name. "And those people over there are Mario, Luigi, Meggy, and Four. His name wasn't originally Four, but he changed it because apparently he was named after a fucking meme so when he joined the Splatoon-" She stopped herself mid-sentence. "Well, that's for another time. Anyway, you can chill out."

Saiko, Mario, Luigi, Meggy, and Four. Had they saved him? They weren't out to kill him? SMG3 heard the NSS talking in a mix of different Inkling scripts. Everything about this was unfamiliar and wrong, but what could he do?

After a moment, Saiko turned back to Three. "What's your name?" she asked.

"It's-" SMG3 just now realized how weird his name must sound to these people. "It's...SMG3. Short for 'Strike Map Guardian 3', I guess. But that must sound weird to you, right?"

Saiko snorted. "You must not know a thing about the Splatlands. Ever since they gave us the option to use a fake name in battles instead of your legal name, people have been naming themselves really weird things. With any luck, people will just think it's some kind of reference to a fandom they couldn't care less about."

Oh. Well, that would make life easier...wait, what? They were just going to let him through? To Inkopolis? "Wait, you're just...letting me through?"

"Uh, yeah. You're not gonna murder anyone, are you?"

"No...?"

Saiko turned to Four and said something in Halfmoon. I took a moment to look around at my surroundings, and I saw that Tentakeel Outpost wasn't as horrible as all the other sectors. I was sitting on a green blanket right now, leaning against...some kind of wooden shack, Inkling in design. There was blue ink everywhere and I spotted three training dummies to my right. No enemies in sight, since this sector was nearly empty except for a few people left in the Kettles, but no one aboveground.

Mario's loud voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and Saiko came back to me. "Well, there is one thing. You've probably already realized that you won't be able to fit in right away, with just Runic script and no money." That was true...

"Well," I began, "what are you saying I should do?"

Saiko didn't say anything for a moment, thinking about how to respond. But then Four spoke up, in Round of course, but Saiko's face lit up. "{Really}?" She grinned. "Well, Four just volunteered to help you. He has more free time on his hands than any of us, so I guess it makes sense. Anyway, I have a life, and more importantly, a job so I'm gonna go back to the rest of Deep Cut-"

"Wait, wait, wait-" I pointed to Four. "-THAT guy? Is gonna take me to the surface? Not that I don't like him, but...I watched him splat my fucking coworkers, like...a million times!"

I waited for Saiko to translate, but then she said "Well, that's too bad. He's the only taker here." God dammit, I... I guess I should be thankful for this situation. I guess...

Still glaring at Four, I stood up. "Well, I don't really have a choice. I'll be fucking killed if I go back and fucking killed if I aimlessly wander around Inkopolis (not really, that's just what he thinks since he grew up in Octarian cities), so FINE. I'll go with you...SMG4."

finally did a bit of doodling for a danganronpa splatoon au that i’ll post in a bit but. i wanted to yap since i have some epic ideas and shit

so. this is mostly for octo expansion and side order, so maybe spoilers? idk. btw i’ll be using octavio as the villain but that is subject to change once i figure out who agent 3 would be

first off chihiro takes the role of marina (chihiro goes by she/her in this pwease no discourse)

chihiro was an elite octarian soldier/head engineer back in octo valley, mainly working on big scary machines and shit. in her free time she made smaller, more personal projects, as well as did the occasional thing with vocaloid. that spiralled into making music as a side hobby, with another certain octarian in their base (sayaka, will elaborate on this further)

additionally, chihiro and mondo were colleagues, though they didn’t have much time to interact daily. more like people you would say hi to on shift, maybe grab some coffee together.

now, during the final showdown with octavio, chihiro ended up running away after hearing the calamari inkantation, yada yada you know the splatoon lore. she moved to inkopolis square, starting up some previous projects, as well as trying to get on the music scene.

mondo takes the role of agent 8. before you get all excited, nope daiya is still dead. lmao. the diamonds were an undercover rebellion group against the octarian government thingy, lead by daiya and mondo. both of them were frontline soldiers, though daiya was an elite soldier. daiya, while preparing to fight back against octavio during the fight with agent three, was caught by a lower class soldier, and splatted on sight. everyone else was found out pretty quickly after that, some got splatted, some escaped.

mondo was one of the ones who managed to escape, hiding in the deep sea metro until things blew over. he ended up running into the telephone/tartar, who promised that he would be able to escape to the surface and reunite with the diamonds.

anyway he ended up getting sanitized-

the sanitization process actually ended up failing because of a power shortage (the zapfish getting stolen, power cut out, sanitization machine thingy stopped working) so mondo got out harmed but not fully sanitized. most of his memories got fucked up, plus patches of his skin were that icky green colour. then yada yada octo expansion

ANYWAY MOVING ONTO LEON leon my friend leon. obviously he takes the role of pearl i would be executed on sight if he didn’t.

mkay so. leon comes from a very rich, very skilled family of professional ranked players; obviously he got roped into it as well. he’s the captain of two different teams, playing a professional match every day, sometimes multiple in one. and he fucking hated that shit. there’s only so much rainmaker a person can take, and since he’s the best and literally never loses, it got boring really, really quick. plus, everyone on his teams kinda hated him, thinking he only got to be a captain since his family is filthy stinking rich. idk how kanon plays into this, but. unfortunately she has to. sorry guys

once on a late night fucking off in inkopolis square, he ran into a short octoling with her face buried in a computer. obviously scared shitless of an octarian, he immediately ran away, but said octarian ended up chasing after him to explain herself. that octarian was chihiro!! she was like “augh i’m sorry for scaring you, please don’t tell anyone :((((((“ and. well, he caved and listened. chihiro’s really cute yanno?

they ended up kinda trauma dumping on the curb together, chihiro about her time in the army and leon about how much he despises being a professional player. this lead to chihiro mentioning she was making music, leon being intrigued, and boom that very same night their band was born. (i’ll call it off the hook for now, but again, subject to change)

leon ended up running away from his previous life, cutting off contact with his family and teams. he and chihiro bought a shitty little studio apartment and started making music together; they were basically an overnight success, almost immediately being asked to sign onto different contracts and managers and stuff.

they started subbing in for news reports in the square, but after the previous hosts quit, they got promoted to full time hosts. chihiro was nervous about being recognized as an octoling, but nope everything worked out a-ok.

then octo expansion happens - leon and chihiro on their commute to the office hear a familiar song playing from a blocked off underground station, call in sick (leon’s idea) and go to explore (also leon’s idea)

they see mondo, half passed out on the floor. chihiro is all “you look really familiar, but i don’t know from where…” and leon is like “??? you’re just trusting this guy??????”

yada yada octo expansion stuff i haven’t figured out yet i don’t even know who captain cuttlefish would be but anywayyy world is saved octolings and inklings live in harmony yada yada

idk how splatfests will work but. leon and chihiro go on tour after. something. chihiro continues to develop a program she was working on to help with restoring the memories of sanitized octolings (cough alter ego cough project memverse cough) and boom splatshit 3 side order happens. haven’t figured out the plot but sayaka (acht/dedf1sh’s role) returns and fucking hates it here. side order is just “leon and chihiro making out in an elevator for an undefined amount of time feat. two lobotomized octolings”

Oh! I remember this guy! He’s the one that’s like- the taller one with ungodly amounts of makeup. Yeah I know who this is. Lemme attach what he wrote (putting it below a read more, since its kinda long)

“This weird bird just came crashing through my window with a note asking if I wanted to send a letter back so.. here you go.

Life has been.. interesting. Had to uh, ‘deal with’ Nine again. But he’s.. not gonna be a problem anymore! (still can’t believe he got brought back.)

I’ve got good news though. Two things actually

One: IM FUCKING MARRIED BITCHESSSSS!!! It doesn’t even feel real if I’m being honest. But, cod, she’s so beautiful. I seriously don’t know how he fell in love with me of all people. I’ll attach the wedding photos to this letter.

Two: We did it. We actually fucking did it. We have an honest-to-cod cure for sanitization… kinda. As far as we’re aware, there’s no way to fully cure sanitization. What you can do though, is restore free-will to fully sanitized people… with a bit of luck. Let me try to explain.

First off, her name is Coral. She was fully sanitized relatively recently, during the commander’s final stand. Because of how recent it was we were able to pretty easily find who she was before (with some help from Octavio). This was important because to reverse it at all, we need genetically similar healthy cells to act as a kinda catalyst. We got insanely lucky with Coral as she had a living twin who agreed to help, and we managed to recover her.

Even if you meet all these conditions though, you still can’t fully reverse it. Even with partial sanitization your body kinda grows a reliance on the stuff, making it near impossible to remove without… yk. There’s potential to reduce some scarring, but that’s about all that can be done for someone like me.

Anyways, she’s recovering now. She’s got her free will back (which honestly, that’s the most important part). We’re working with the C.Q.s to try and recover as much data about each subject as possible. They’ve been shockingly helpful, all things considered.

Calm before the inkstorm Chapter 4 sneak peek

As the sun began to peek up over the horizon Octavio groaned, the light filtering in through the cracked door of his room that led out into the garden. In his tired state he heard a soft humming from outside, quickly recognizing it to belong to Y/N. With much effort he wrestled himself from his futon, stumbling over to the door to look outside, a soft smile dawning onto his face seeing them hard at work in the garden as usual. Soon though he was interrupted by one of the council members knocking on the wood frame of the other door leading to the hallway of the palace, their voice calling out, “Your highness, are you awake yet? You have some important duties to attend to today and it would be wise to prepare yourself as soon as possible, it will be a busy day so I will send a servant in soon with your breakfast so you may eat as soon as you are dressed and ready.” After a moment he could hear them shuffling away back to the council chambers to await his arrival.

“Ah frill why did it have to be today of all days. I’m still fucking tired from last night.” He complained under his breath, tearing himself from the garden door to get dressed, part of him tempted to call his beloved in to assist him but refraining knowing they’re likely still upset at him. He’d wait till after he’s apologized, they’d only wanted to do something nice for him and he acted like a jealous child. “As if Craig would even think of taking them from me. That would be a death wish to steal the crown heir’s lover from him.” He thought to himself as he dressed for the day… how long had it been since they’d gotten together… three maybe four years now? Maybe it was time he finally asked for their hand, then nobody could ever threaten their position again and they’d never have to lift a finger for anything again… but would they accept? His brow furrowed at the idea of them rejecting his proposal, not liking the scenario one bit. No he’ll wait… in a few years he’ll be the king officially and then he can just announce their relationship and nobody will be able to say anything against it. He’d be king after all, and who would dare defy the king.

A rousing victory on all fronts!!

This is the best outcome that 3 could ever have hoped for. A Splatfest they were allowed to fight in, AND theyre winning team? Its a dream come true.

And Team Past winning is a message that they had hoped to hear for reasons that hit close to home.

On the more personal side, they chose this team because they had one good memory, one good year, and that single point in their life is going to keep them going. Theyre going to work so they can make more of that experience for themself.

Theyre a nostalgic soul. They want things to be simple like when they first turned 14 and left home.

But thats not all.

They believe that there has to be a return to form between the nations that participated in this fest. Long ago, they were all in harmony until the waters rose. Now that the nations are together again, they want them to just think of the music, the art, the food, the culture they can share with each other instead of fighting all the time.

Team past winning could be a show of a similar sentiment. Bury the hatchet. Lets hold hands like how we did it back then. Fucks sake -- most of Inkadia isnt even aware of Octaria. They were kind of just forgotten.

Inkadia is willing to open their arms again. Octaria is still a lil skittish but itll get better. They have reason to be, anyway.

Thing abt the two nations is that -- for several years now, migrations and travel have been more or less commonplace. Lots of Octarians in Inkopolis now, thanks to the platoon's help. Most people have relations with an Octarian. Inkadia didnt notice it at first. When they did though, there was apprehension. Thats where 3s peace talks come in.

Beyond the powers that be, regular Inkadians saw no reason to fear the Octarians (unless theyre part of those idiot fringe groups similar to Cuttlefish before). Theyve known these guys for years now, theres no harm.

The grandfest is Inkadia finally shaking hands with Octaria officially. Now even Octavio feels safe in bringing the dome dwellers up. Only reason he was strict with travel in the first place was his fear of Inkadians being nasty to his people.

Admittedly...yes, they were nasty to his people for a while. There was this subconcious bias/expectation that the Octarians should act a certain way to be accepted. To leave behind what made them Octarian, to blend in, assimilate. More passionate Octarians were usually excluded. There have been movements to bring light to these issues, which the platoon also participates in, and slowly but surely things changed for the better. Its not 100% perfect yet but its still moving forward.

And then team past wins?? Its like Inkadia is saying "we fucked up. Were sorry. How can we make up for it?"

It wasnt about returning to the past, (though the past that these winners fight for is a past when the two nations were in harmony) its all about learning from their mistakes to make a better present and future.

The win meant that society is acknowledging that theyve made mistakes and are willing to make up for it.

Its the best result for 3, really. They want Inkadia to face the fucking facts while they make up for everything theyve done wrong. They are an agent that relies on previous experience to get better. They observe past actions, they look at previous mistakes bit too much Ill say and think of how to improve themself (and others.)

To get better, you have to study the past. This is true for battle, and also personal growth.

3 has so much hope for the future bc of this, and they never thought theyd ever hope again.

Knowing that Inkadians are willing to do that effort really makes them believe in their nation more.

Their peace talks with the powers that be and their efforts of helping Octarians integrate with the surface Inkadians have paid off at last,,

Bc Inkadians tjemselves said that they want to make things better than how things were before

Theyre not alone in that fight anymore.

The Grizzco raids that stole a billion eggs back from the corporation was the first sign...and this win confirms their hopes.

Hello everyone, I got some announcements to share and some plans for the future of this blog now that the Grand Fest is over and the news drought begins.

(LONG POST AHEAD!!!!)

I think going forward I'm gonna change how I approach myself acting online and be less "OH MY GOD HOLY SHITENWIOEDISIWIEOE GUYYS!!!"

Because to be honest with you all... I've been feeling very self conscious about the way that I've been acting online and I feel like I gotta channel my passion for Splatoon in a much more healthy and less EXTREMEEEEE way.

I am aware that um.... people have blocked me... and you know, that's to be expected of course when you are online and you're slowly building a following. Still really stings, though, and I think it's due to the fact that sometimes I can be sorta- "This is what happened, and if you disagree with me, you're an idiot and you're wrong!!!!!" When I make posts. And I don't wanna do that, and I don't want to come off as a gatekeeping fan that thinks lower of other people who might not know my stances very well. I wanna educate people and present my stuff as more of "Hey guys, this is what I think actually happened in this event. Feel free to take a look! I think this is really cool and I wonder what you guys think of this perspective that i have?"

And sometimes I can be pretty loud mouthed and stuff and I have talked shit towards certain characters. I remember one time I made a post where I said "what the fuck is wrong with Marie?" And said some stuff... I probably rubbed a lot of people the wrong way with that post... and other posts. I'm so sorry if I have made some of you upset in the past or have said some awful things about your favourite characters in the series...

As you guys probably know, I am passionate about Hypno Callie and I have very strong stances and opinions on her. And that leads to me get a bit... out of control. Callie is my biggest comfort character and to see certain people try and push this vile and disgusting event that happened to her... that she was kidnapped by Octavio and the Octarians when she was alone, and that he brainwashed her and forcibly put the shades on her, or he tricked her and he removed her memories too...

and I try to see the same event in a completely different lens... I see it as more of Octavio manipulating her in a more subtle way and due to Callie's poor mental state and desperation, she heard him out. Octavio used the shades as a way to control her more easily but he doesnt have full direct control over her because her influence helped motivate the Octarians. Octavio still wanted Callie to be... well... Callie. Plus, Callie was more than willing to help the Octarians as well, as she thinks they are cute. I do have evidence to back it up as well as articles and definitions explaining how hypnosis actually works and its limitations.

But this perspective gets compromised and put into question in my head when people keep pushing and pushing and PUSHING the other thing. Then it feels like I have to yell and get mad.... I've seen it as recently as when Blushing Tide came out and I looked at the YouTube comment section on one of the uploads and I just kept seeing people say "oh it's like Tidal Rush but without the brainwashing" or some shit like that idk. I dont remember it well but i know I saw the word floating around. (Don't look at YouTube comment sections. You won't get anything of value from them.)

Anyways, I also wanna cut back on swearing too because sometimes I border on being a hazbin hotel character and I DO NOT want myself to get to that level LMAO!

So what shall I be doing now that Splatoon 3 is officially wrapped up? Well... I wanna do more creative projects and fun stuff like that. I got good reception from my haikus for the Grand Fest and I think doing more stuff like that sounds really really fun!!! And it might actually give me a reason to finish stuff as well lol...

Like I have a God damn Splatoon 2 hero mode finale rewrite that's nearly done and it's been sitting on my Google docs since JULY!!!! I have also made plans to do a fan sequel to the Squid Sisters Stories that takes place in between Splatoon 2 and 3 because that time frame for the Squid Sisters has been barely touched upon. I'm also doing a personal project where it's basically what I want to see out of a Splatoon 4 and I've been really enjoying making that. I dont know if I would ever share it but... it's something to do for me at least.

I also wanna involve myself in the community more, I received an ask where someone said (I forgot who asked I'm so sorry) if I could do a thing where I receive Splatoon OCs and critique them. That sounds really fun!!!

Maybe i can do photo mode competitions or showcases!!! Where I choose a theme (Callie, water, Splatsville, etc) and people submit their photos and I critique them and showcase them to everyone!!! Does that sound like something people would be interested in?! I would love to know as virtual photography is a hobby I love to partake in and I wanna encourage more people to try it!

There is also other stuff i can do like going over the Idols outfits and rating them, but I don't have the motivation to do that at the moment and I know it's not gonna be as in-depth as the one I did for Callie.

Anyhow, that's basically what I have so far. I think im gonna slow down on posting and I'm gonna chill out. Or at least I'll try to chill out.

I've just been feeling incredibly guilty and kinda... sad that I've been acting in a certain way for a while. And I really wanna change that. I dont like making people upset and I don't wanna be the kind of Splatoon fan that puts down others who don't even know any better and don't know who I am....

But enough being sad, I wanna focus on the present and make sure that my future on here is bright!!!

I Wrote a lot about Octavios music Teehee. (both his themes, Callie and his collab and 3MIX)

something I found interesting. Was how in splatoon1 his voice was much more like softer, not that grimy feel he has now, (although he still has it in his dialog so idk-) which makes me think he recorded the vocals at the beginning of the war, plus it makes sense due to the first theme feeling very like, authoritative, it was very out there, plus the chanting where it goes “U A, U O A” which gives it a huge octarian feel, along with the bells as if it’s the end Y’know? Also all the beat drops and wind-ups, along with a considerable tech feel, the synthetic kinda noises, which kinda show's how he was still learning, especially how he kinda loses control for a moment in one of the fazes where it’s like the disks jog back and forth, along with how kinda quiet it is compared to the BOOM his other themes have, which I can say the same with his voice, (ignoring the term balls dropped here) it shows how once he gained more popularity as a DJ he just got louder, and the weird voice box he has now is most likely due to his old age and his throat sounding like it’s sore as fuck, Although comparing this to his remix of his own theme in Splatoon3 is much faster yet the background noise is more chillax, you can still faintly hear the ‘u a, u o a’ in the beat, yet seconds after shit goes ham in an ‘in your face' manner as he starts spitting bars, instead of a quiet voice with slightly louder music doing the work it’s the opposite here, his voice being louder and the backbeat matching his words, also it sounds a little intergalactic which is ironic cause he ends up helping you in space, you can’t hear the chanting anymore most likely because he fights you alone on the surface, which he just does himself with some of the beats, also it’s most likely as short as it is due to not having the great zapfish and being defeated quicker than the other two times.

Ok so back to splatoon2, Callie and him practically collabed instead of him using his own theme, with Bomb Bomb Blush Ft:Callie, It still has very much octavios i guess preference, except it’s much more expansive with different styles of music, showing how over the years he used other music to mix with his own (which is DJ-Ing at its finest) yet still has much of a threatening army tone, yet again here he uses the chanting beat instead of having the octarians do it most likely to let Callie sing her ass off, so they don’t steal her spot-light, yet there’s another beat that sounds almost inspiring like to give hope to his people in a way, cause if you really think about it, they are the good guys in their eyes, when in reality octavio is more in the grey area, hence the mix of tense and threatening parts compared to callies, which is most likely why he kidnapped her in the first place, kinda a ‘hey your happy and inspiring ig, make my people hope or something’ way. It really is a collab as well, like neither of them are going overboard on the other, they both get their moments and Octavio doesn't even rap at all, he’s just the backbeat, and when Callie takes a breather that’s when he goes ham with the beat, Splatoon3 Calamari Inkarnationen3MIX has its typical Octavio start, but now mixed with the new trio's national Instruments which once again shows his vast knowledge abt music, as shiver and Frye sing their asses off, Octavio took calamari incantation and MADE It more of an incantation, it’s a mix between Octarian music and inkling music, this is something completely different than what he usually makes, which shows he really likes this fucking song, (even though he denys it but that's cause he's salty) and wants to take it to its full potential, he even adds a little of the music that’s been playing at splatfests for years, like the whistles and drums, it also has much of an electric feel to it which is most likely conforming to frye, what I like most is the songs overall aura, like it gives off such a cocky yet hopeful vibe, he also makes sure to keep the notes relatively the same for Marie and Callie when they sing on their own, but the more they get into it the more hyped up the song gets, as they finish their lines, as it goes back to the singless jam, i love how like culturally aware he is, he’s like “aight, we got a throat singer, a theatrical singer, J-pop, and an inkling of African descent along with Big-man’s Brazilian ass, “ so he incorporates ALLL OF IT into one, and he does it in such a good way that none are overdoing the other, which like we Stan, he’s like “ok the inkling Jpop shit is getting old so, lemme yassify it losers" And fucking does it, it sounds like he listens to everyone’s fucking music and makes sure it all fits their vibe so they can give their best performances, which keep in mind this is playing when your SAVING THE WHOLE WORLD, so they better fucking be giving their best. Faintly at some points you can hear him say some stuff too, but it’s mixed in with the drops of notes so it’s hard to catch, I also love the back chorus, which he most likely got from his own people, it sounds practically “heavenly” which is what he calls the song on multiple occasions, so it makes sense. In conclusion I believe he picked up music more for his people than himself, but genuinely loving music and making it, it once brought hope to his people, and then finally in splatoon3 it’s bringing hope to everyone, which I think shows a huge character development in his case, I don’t think he helps you just to beat a common enemy, but because he wants to protect, and I find that very admirable, he really fits the title of king. i wrote this at 6AM after no sleep

which brings us to the next one which is actually an octoling oc i made back in like 2016??? def splatoon 1 era. shes been redesigned a bajillion times but the story is mostly the same. after the octavio fight she is also one of those octos who tried to get to inkopolis. this one was found by three who was like. i jave no idea what ur saying ur coming with the the old man totes knows octarian from his divorce. this n that and they teach eachother language and culture and its sweet and cool and they probabyl had some wlw stuff going on until 3 had a wholeass gender crisis

this is her btw. the drawing on the right is more up to date. im still thinking of renaming her. ill never find a name that fits. her original name was marianna but thats too close to marina!!!!!

shes also a fashion designer! she likes to use traditional octarian or military designs in her clothes. her pieces are not meant for turf wars though. shes still in close contact with three, and they hang out a lot. she wants to get three to ask the squid sisters if they could wear some of her clothes on a splatfest. three forgets.

next up!!!!! agent 4. i have two of those. they independently became agent 4 and then unrelatedly also became college roommates.

hash is more of a canon adjacent agent 4. poser, loser, really dramatic and really loud. kidna does whatever they want and also likes to leave graffitti on the kettles they clear. theyre also an only child. they also call marie mom jsut to annoy her. also their hairstyle is the bob in the front but the back is spiky/shaved. theyre a silly lil punk.

ikarus is a cynical asshole. and also a self centered poser whos set on looking cool for whoevers watching. he has 2 younger siblings and 1 older sister. hes from outside greater inkopolis, thinks hes better than the in city inkopolitans but behaves the exact same. he sucks i love him. he really looks up to n respects marie bc she reminds him of his elder sister. his fav brand is toni kensa

ikarus got the agent job first, n got rlly mad when they found out that theres another agent 4 bc he didnt show up enough nd marie just hired someone else. they share a uniform. they try to annoy eachother by puttinf the weirdest smelling stuff in the uniform b4 leaving it at the canyon. when talking ab em as agent 4 i like to use #4 for hash and n°4 for ikarus

the two also have a 3rd roommate

she doesnt have a name though. and if she does i forgot it :(

the three actually make a pretty good unit in their apartement. hash and ikarus only find out theyre both agent 4 when its time for the boss fight and both of them show up to get it done with. theyre both very competitive. they end up fighting over it and hash wins. ikarus is on the truck w sheldon and marie and is yelling insults at the battlefield until marie shuts him up so she can sing.

thw three roommates also always do salmon run shifts together. if they fuck up on a wave they always blame it on the one freelancer. yes they also kiss.

they are very well spoken but also pretty shy. they try to make a good impression on people. finds it hard to trust others.

it took a while until he got used to sleeping in a bed. still sleeps with an eye open sometimes. its a habit.

theyre usualyl the one forcing three into at least okay looking clothes. oh also this tall loser likes to wear heels n platforms. hes literally taller than marina and still wears heels.

he actually started learning inklish back in octo valley from really outdated books. after coming to inkopolis hes been given a buncha annotated language books from marina (and from three, who still had the ones they used w the other octo girlie). but they still end up using some really old phrases and words that kinda leave some people perplexed.

oh also they're not THAT good at fighting (they were never a soldier) theyre smart and persistent though. still ended up severely in debt w pearl bc of the metro. pearl offered he can just work as stage crew for off the hook for a few tours or so and theyre good. he took the offer immediately bc bro barely got income to repay that all normally.
