it's TNG UPDATE TIME. last night* we watched "birthright" parts i & ii. just this once, i'm not combining them because i can distinctly differentiate between the episodes, they were actually (after all that angst) kind of unconnected, though i would have DIED to have left it on that cliffhanger

DS9 CROSSOVER! i wish it could have been for both halves. also, i kind of wish odo could have been the one to talk to data even though he has no reason whatsoever to leave. it just would have been so much autism in one room

human brent spiner HORRIBLE to look at. the faces he makes as dr soong (which...why would dr soong be white...was that old man white idr...) remind me of lore's.

however: thrilled that data can dream now. i was so happy also that everyone treated him really niceys. except bashir who microaggressed him one time but i forgive him because it was funny

it was WWWWILD to see tng characters walkin around ds9. i hated tng in my ds9 but i loved ds9 in my tng. i wish they had a budget for a proper crossover. did sisko have to be in the same room as picard again? did o'brien go aboard and say hello? i miss him so bad.

minor deanna and worf moment in this ep when she comforts him over his dad potentially being alive. mwah. i feel like the tng side characters have been non-existent for awhile...first we stopped watching tng as much for ds9, then we got that deanna-only ep, then that picard-only ep, and now the ds9 crossover and the worf-only ep...can we PLEASE get the gang back together

final note i love that worf loves shitty replicator food and also riker's terrible cooking. king.

i have complex feelings.

worf's dad plot as a means to get worf to be the pov character for the ethical dilemma of this episode kind of undermined the entire ethical dilemma

the ethical dilemma tng THOUGHT it was presenting was, "if klingons and romulans have escaped the war to live peacefully together, is it right to disrupt their way of life just because their children might choose differently?"

THE ACTUAL DILEMMA IT PRESENTED WAS. IF YOU HAVE SEVENTY-THREE KLINGON PRISONERS OF WAR. actually that's not even a question. they just have them. let's break this down

this romulan guy, unclear if he was the one actually in charge at the khitomer massacre or not (i thought he looked familiar, i looked it up and he previously played a totally different romulan on tng lol), but this guy is running this fucking prison with seventy-three klingons completely at his mercy. yes, they ""asked"" to stay, but they WANTED to die, they ATTEMPTED to die, and they would have CHOSEN to die had the option been given to them, but they're doing this instead in order to keep from bringing consequences down on their families heads. so he has total power over them and he... "marries" one???

i am going to start discussing conception via rape please consider this your warning.

this is of course coming after tasha yar had a FUCKING BABY VIA RAPE in a romulan prison and then got killed for trying to escape. he "married" a klingon woman. ALL RIGHT

in fact, the REAL ethical dilemma is, is it right to try and force this half-romulan half-klingon girl out of her "home" when it is clear she is happy in here and will be reviled out there? i argue yes because her home IS A PRISON CAMP like girl if spock did it u can too but what do i know

it makes no sense also that these people would be choosing to procreate. if this prison camp is only marginally better than death, or worse than death in some ways but a necessary evil, why bring kids into it??? unless the romulans are the ones making the babies

god this dude even sat at the head of the table and had everyone bring his food to him and then was ready to execute worf for bringing klingon culture into and i repeat the KLINGON PRISON CAMP

anyway, this episode did pop off at a few points. it was cool to see worf help them get back in touch with their own culture and doubly cool to see him get "even" with his like...sort of enemies. ALSO fun to watch that little bootlicking klingon who was sucking that romulan guy's dick finally come to his senses and stand w/ worf

i also loved the part where worf was perfectly happy to die as a klingon rather than live as someone with dishonor...it felt so different from the episode where he tried to kill himself because this time he WAS being honorable and not cowardly. he would have had nowhere to go had he run and he would have been leaving those other klingons behind

i am disappointed though that after all that. worf's dad really was dead. also, how did that guy know where the camp was and why did he tell. ALSO also, how are the klingons gonna get by when they can't tell anyone what bloodline they come from...that's like your picture ID in the klingon world

the point is, as usual, tng almost had something really cool but couldn't get out of its own way and as a result dropped the fucking ball.

Coming from me, someone who has only played the first game, about AA: What ships in the fandom do you think people just Don't Get? I know the big one being the boys Miles and Pheonix so odds of numbers people are likely to mess up that dynamic often.

ur totally right that people get narumitsu wrong, ill steal a phrase from pepper analysis of franmaya (another ship people get totally wrong but they explained it better in fewer words djffkj) to say that people often reduce them to sunshine boy and grump (boring dynamic), or worse, seme and uke. people will really write these guys like theyre bad yaoi stereotypes and think its Good just because it made them horny

now i love yaoi. i love porn. i love porn of these guys. but they are the MOST complex characters in the entire series, so reducing them to Just top/bottom for the sake of beating off to it is so. idk frustrating lol

its not all bad though, my buddy bloodofgrapes (hiiii hello grapes) probably produces my favorite nsfw content where bdsm concepts and roles like top/bottom are Intentionally Part Of It, because he actually puts a lot of thought into the dynamic as it pertains to phoenix and miles, rather than just stapling yaoi tropes onto them. the characterization in his comics/fanart is top notch, high recommendation 👌 (obviously this also means the non nsfw content that grapes makes is excellent too, as an aside)

A) Holding them by the jaw to kiss them

The Landsmeet was always an ordeal. Zevran knew that Astala had hoped it would go smoother this time with all the evidence that they had prepared. His mere presence, however, unusual as it was, seemed to be enough to bring all of their preparations into jeopardy.

"I just don't think, arlessa," Gell said, "that his word holds much weight here."

"Say what you mean," Astala said in a tone that Zevran recognized as a threat.

"It should be obvious," arl Gell said and leaned back in his seat, gesturing towards Zevran. "He's Antivan."

"And you're no longer Fereldan," Astala shot back. "Your point?"

Gell laid his hands on the railing of the balustrade. "He shouldn't even be here!"

""Neither should you," one of the banns called from the floor below.

"Please!" Anora called from her seat as Astala stood up. Her knuckles were paling from the death grip on her cane.

"Your Majesty," Gell said, turning to Anora. "This is an insult to the Landsmeet!"

"An insult?" Zevran lifted his eyebrows. This man was getting tiresome.

“I’m so sorry, Zevran,” Astala muttered, only for him to hear.

Zevran made a dismissive gesture towards the arl. “This is hardly your fault. How about we make ourselves more disagreeable to this man?”

“What, is that still possible?” Astala scoffed over the clamoring nobility. “Any ideas?”

Zevran drew one finger along her jaw, on the side of her face that had ben scarred by the archdemon’s fire, and bent her head further down, until her lips were hovering above his. A wolfish smile came over Astala’s face as she leaned in and Zevran captured her lips in a fierce kiss. The Landsmeet broke out into loud shouting, broken up and harmonized when Shianni whistled loud enough that it could be heard out in the hallway and in the rooms past it.

Author's notes: arl Gell Lendon is an asshole who took Edgehall by force when his half-brother, who he had attempted to murder, died to the darkspawn. He proceeded to chopp down Edgehall's vhenadahl and then took action against a Dalish clan who wanted to gift the Alienage a new vhenadahl. To say Astala has beef with him (as do I) is to put it lightly. You can read more about him and inform your outrage at this man on this wiki page.

B) Kissing them to shut them up

An early night in the Alienage that was just chilly enough to be comfortable as long as people were sitting close enough together found Astala and Zevran in the company of two of Astala’s friends, Carrel and Tehriel. They’d found a spot close to Alarith’s shop where they could sit and talk as the sun fully disappeared behind the ocean, and swap stories about the year that had passed. Tonight was a night of funny stories, and Zevran had finished recounting every detail of his failed assassination attempt.

“You tried to kill her?” Tehriel leaned back, wide-eyed and arms crossed. “No way.”

“It made for a rousing first meeting,” Zevran said lightly.

“Second meeting,” Astala said. “Our first meeting was in the tavern at Redcliffe.”

“Ah, you remember that?” Zevran clicked his tongue. “I thought you might not. You were quite drunk.”

Carrel snorted. “And you fell in love with her after seeing her drunk.”

“Hey, I’m an okay drunk!” Astala protested.

“And a bit aggressive, Tabris,” Carrel said.

“Well, I was very nice to him,” Astala answered.

“That she was.” Zevran leaned further against Astala. “She invited me to sit with her.”

“Oooh, she never let me sit next to her,” Tehriel said and Astala stuck her tongue out at him.

“Because you cheat at cards!”

“After that, we went for a stroll under the stars,” Zevran continued with a fond smile.

“How romantic,” Carrel deadpanned.

“And then, she asked me to stay the night.”

“She did whaaaaat?” Tehriel turned to Astala. “You did that?”

“I didn’t!” Astala protested.

“No?” Zevran asked, feigning surprise himself. “But you asked me to join you!”

“To join our group!” Astala said and gave Zevran a shove. “Not me!”

“Are you quite certain?” Zevran asked.

“Maybe you don’t remember it right,” Carrel offered with his brand of calm but relentless teasing. “How drunk were you, Tabris?”

“Oh, let me assure you,” Zevran said, “she was quite drunk.”

“I was not!” Astala protested. “I could walk and all!”

“Barely.”

“You know, it’s not like you, Tabris, to just go on inviting random strangers into your little group of friends,” Tehriel said.

“If she was at the point to do that, I can imagine her asking him to stay the night,” Carrel mused.

“Don’t listen to him!” Astala said. “I was doing fine!”

Tehriel turned to Zevran. “How much had she been drinking?”

Zevran shrugged with a mischievous smile. “I counted six tankards.”

Carrel and Tehriel broke out into roaring laughter as Astala shrieked in indignation and tried to cover Zevran’s mouth with her hand to keep him from talking on. It was in vain; Zevran licked her hand. Astala pulled a face and wiped it off on his shirt, which he used as a momentary distraction to sneakily pull her closer again. He opened his mouth to speak again, but Astala, seeing how the hand on his mouth hadn’t worked, had grabbed him by the chin and pulled him in. The pressing of her lips to his effectively shut him up. What surprise this move provoked quickly vanished from Zevran’s face as he closed his eyes. His hand cupped her cheek, hers found his neck, and Carrel and Tehriel were presented with the enticing opportunity to whistle and holler at the tactical move and its devastating effects.

C) Small, domestic kisses while getting stuff done e.g. making breakfast.

"We should tidy up," Astala sighed.

From her lap came a muffled "no" as Zevran buried his head further in the crook between her thigh and stomach. He haphazardly slung one arm around her waist. It tickled. Astala let out a breath of a laugh and leaned back against the pillows on the bench.

It promised to be a quiet night here in Antiva, sitting on their porch with the host of children finally asleep in their beds. The stars were bright on the cloudless sky. The breeze from the ocean ruffled the leaves of the trees in the garden and chased away the heat of the day. It danced through Zevran's hair and blew up her own curly strands. Astala started combing her husband's hair back down.

"What a day," Zevran muttered and shifted. Half-hooded eyes were now looking up to her, soft with tiredness.

Astala nodded and added a bit of pressure to the slow drag of her fingers. Zevran closed his eyes again and groaned in contentment.

"Sorry for the last-minute addition," she said. "Soris didn't say they'd all come."

"It's alright." Zevran stifled a yawn. "How did it go?"

Astala looked up over the garden as she gathered her thoughts.

"Good, I think," she finally said. "My father's not over Soris just disappearing yet, but they talked. And his wife is very nice. Bit shy."

Zevran laughed quietly. "She was frightened of you, I think."

"Really? Huh." Astala raised her eyebrows. "I'm not that scary anymore."

"Oh, I think you get scarier with age, amore," Zevran said and laughed when he saw her expression. "Come now. You were the one who drove all the customers away from that old man, no? A few words and nobody dares approach the place."

"He was so rude!" Astala protested. "And his stock was the worst I've ever seen!"

"And so you drove him into ruin," Zevran laughed and tapped a finger against her lips when she started pouting. "Beware the power of those lips."

Astala pretended to bite his finger.

"Ohoho! See? You are a danger, amore."

"You're the danger here, love," Astala retorted and placed a kiss on his finger. "How did it go for you?"

In her lap, Zevran sighed and turned to face the stars.

"Alright," he muttered. "It went alright. Well, even. The flock is behaving."

"They better," Astala said. "So, setting an example worked?"

"I think it did," Zevran said. "But it is such a long way to and back. One whole day on the road, and everytime I go…"

He threw his hand in the air and let it fall listlessly back to his side.

"I would much rather be here," he said. "The backstabbing, the intimidating, the posturing, it is getting old. At least our children never try to pull the same trick twice."

"I mean…" Astala began, but Zevran cut her off.

"Trust me, they are much more creative than the Crows. They act like children; the Crows meanwhile are like a band of street cats fighting over a piece of fish."

Astala let out a snorted laugh at that image. It got a quiet chuckle out of Zevran. Then he sighed and readjusted his position in her lap.

"What if we left the washing up for tomorrow?"

"I can do it," Astala said. "You've been on the road for a long time."

Zevran shook his head. "You have been up all day."

"I'm alright," Astala said. "Believe it or not."

Zevran leaned his head against her stomach again and closed his eyes. Astala leaned back once more and watched the stars.

Dinner kept sitting in the kitchen, dishes and cups piled up and waiting to be washed.

"Alright," Astala said, trying to stand up and tapping Zevran on the head when he refused to move. "Gotta clean up together then."

A groan in protest was her only answer. Nothing to do then but to pick her reluctant husband up. Which went straight to her hip and she'd probably regret it tomorrow, but it was worth it; Zevran let out a yelp when she heaved him over her shoulder.

"I must say," she heard from behind her as she made her way to the kitchen with him hanging head first down her shoulder. "I cannot complain. This is a lovely view."

He gave her backside an appreciative pat.

"I'd love to indulge you for longer," Astala groaned and set him down. "I'm gonna wash the dishes. Can you get them? And also a chair?"

"Your desire," Zevran said and pressed a kiss to her cheek.

He made for the nearest chair. Astala held him back and kissed him herself, on his lips.

"Incentive," she said.

"For dishes to be brought?" Zevran asked.

Astala nodded.

"Hmmm. For a price such as this…"

Zevran leaned back in, but Astala quickly leaned to the side and gave him a peck on the cheek instead.

"Dishes first."

"Such dangerous lips and now such torments." Zevran threw his hand up to his forehead as he turned around. "I shall have wasted away before this ordeal is done."

"Poor soul," Astala giggled and sat down as she began to wash the dishes. "Maker have mercy on you."

"May he, indeed!" Zevran approached, arms full of dishes, and set them down next to the water basin. "But will you have mercy on me, amore?"

Astala cupped his cheek with the hand that was not wet yet and kissed him. Zevran, evil man that he was, let his tongue dart out between his teeth to taste her, which made her squeal, and this prompted him to kiss her again to muffle the sound. The kiss ended in laughter on both sides—quiet laughter so they wouldn't wake anyone up.

Kiss by kiss, the stacks of dishes vanished. Kiss by kiss, they were dried and placed back in their respective cabinets. Once the last dish had been stored away and Astala had dried her hand, Zevran pulled her up and into one last kiss. Soft, warm, a light caress after a long day… suddenly, Astala was sad there were no more dishes to wash.

"This wasn't so bad," she said, letting her surprise bleed into her voice.

Zevran hummed and set out to say something. Instead, he yawned.

"Bed?"

"Bed and sleep," Astala nodded.

"And maybe a reward for a job well done?" Zevran asked cheekily.

Astala laughed, hooked her left arm with his and stole another kiss after he turned down the lights. The house fell silent.

You've already mentioned that if Tadpole survived then they would all be loners and Brambleclaw wouldn't be leader but what if Tadpole did survive and Sasha still took them to the Clans. I think Tadpole's death had a really big effect on Moth and Hawk so I'd like to see your take

OK so for this one I’m going to ask you to believe i-dont-remember-whose analysis of Hawkfrost personnality.

That guy whose name idr said that basically, due to abandonment issues and all, Hawkfrost is a people pleasers, so basically: Tawnypelt said she didn’t want anything to do with him, he let her in peace. Mothwing lets slip she wants to become a medicine cat, he fabricates a sign. Brambleclaw wants to become deputy then leader well guess what. (in a way, Mudclaw wants to believe he’s the rightful deputy, Hawkfrost manipulates him and helps him with his coup, etc)

The rest of that personnality however hinges on the fact that once he pleased those people he expects them to give him something back: Tawnypelt not to tell people on him about the DF (which she doesn’t), Mudclaw and Mothwing, to lend him their influences (Mothwing lied about a sign, Mudclaw would have taken Hawkfrost in Windclan) and Brambleclaw to help him conquer the clan (at this point he was suspecting that not everyone worked the way he did so he asked Brambleclaw to prove his loyalty to him by killing Firestar, which both served Brambleclaw’s presumed plan and proved Hawkfrost that he was on his side).

So... if Tadpoletail had been a Riverclan warrior like his siblings, what would have happened? Well like any clancat or almost, Tadpolepaw would probably have said at some point that he wanted to be leader one day. Hawkfrost will then strive to make his brother leader and then become his deputy. Stormkit/Oakkit style, except Hawkfrost is the kind of guy to dirty his paws in the process.

So anyway. Same upbringing, same issues, same not clanborn status, same kin... I think Tadpoletail wouldn’t mind becoming leader even when he outgrew his apprentice phase. Whether or not he is ok to dirty his own paws in the process is the diverging point.

Path 1: Tadpoletail refuses to use violence and treachery to ascend to power.

Hawkfrost didn’t ask Mothwing what means she accepted before fabricating the sign. But here it’s different. Tadpole is not their sister, who is so noble and loyal and wants to do things by the rules. Tadpole is his brother and a warrior and he probably already fought fiercely for his clan and why wouldn’t he agree?

Hawkfrost tells Tadpole about how, now that Mistyfoot’s gone, they should seize power for themselves. He will make a sign about Tadpoletail (because a tadpole is easier to catch than a hawk mind you) and when Leopardstar dies, Tadpoletail will name Hawkfrost his deputy. Deal? No! Not deal! Mistyfoot might still be alive, you can’t fake a sign, yadda yadda, tst how boring that his brother is so loyal and nobler-than-thou...

But here’s the jist: Tadpoletail is now a liability for Hawkfrost. So what does he do? Well he traps him somewhere and leaves him there to die.

A twolegs passes by, sees a wounded cat, takes him to the cages. I would argue that Tadpoletail’s cage makes one more cat to free and so he is taken prisonner with Graystripe, then refuses to leave the twolegs’ den and stays a kittypet for ever, blissfully aware he could do worse, like for example be trapped with his brother or dead in a ditch. 

However while in his cage, Tadpoletail talked to Mistyfoot and told her about Hawkfrost and how he tried to kill him. He tells that to everyone in the cages in case some die there, in case he dies there, so that the truth has a chance to come out.

After the release, Leafpaw, Brightheart, Gorsetail, Cloudtail etc go with MIstyfoot to tell Leopardstar about Hawkfrost’s treachery. In the absence of Tadpoletail himself, there’s no proof they aren’t all lying to support Mistyfoot’s claim on deputyship.

Here’s where Leoaprdstar’s personnality comes into play: she is still hurting and atoning from Stonefur’s death. She is neither going to unjustly imprison Hawkfrost if there’s a chance it’s unjust, nor going to accept other clans’ influences on the matter.

But she cannot demote Mistyfoot like that either. Because again, Stonefur.

So the status quo stays like that during the Great Journey. But this time, she’s watching for Hawkfrost. So when he brings his support to Mudclaw and goes to fight in the Windclan Succesion War, she agrees that he’s untrustworthy, and she exiles him.

He either tries to kill her, or he goes to THunderclan, contacts Brambleclaw, conspires to make him a deputy then a leader and then join his clan. HOwever in both cases, he needs to kill a leader to get his plan through, and in both cases, he is defeated and dies.

Path 2: Tadpoletail is totally onboard with violence and treachery.

However, before becoming deputies, they need apprentices. So he suggests that they bond with Mosspelt’s kits: Minnowkit, Tumblekit, Pebblekit.

Keeping such a watchful eyes on them, they find the twolegs’ liquid and prevent them from drinking it. They are acclaimed as clan heroes for finding the source of the illness, Tumblekit doesn’t die, and Willowkit/shine doesn’t have the opportunity to discover her vocation as a medicine cat.

Pebblepaw is apprenticed to Hawkfrost, and Tumblepaw to Tadpoletail.

Given that he’s busy with Tadpoletail’s and his ambitions, Hawkfrost doesn’t meddle with THunderclan politics. Brambleclaw is made deputy because of Leafpool’s vision, but Firestar doesn’t lose a life in the foxtrap.

Mistyfoot just so happen to have an... accident between arcs. We open the Sight with Tadpoletail as riverclan deputy and Hawkfrost and him still plotting to make Leopardstar’s life slightly shorter than it should be in order for Tadpolestar to make Hawkfrost his deputy.

But Leopardstar is clinging to life, and Tadpoletail doesn’t want to take the risk to reveal to everyone their treachery. So he exhorts Hawkfrost to patience. And Hawkfrost starts to believe that Tadpoletail is just trying to block him from power because of jealousy or something.

So Hawkfrost kills Tadpoletail, maybe around Eclipse when no one knows who’s fighting who (just like he tried to kill Brambleclaw when he didn’t correspond to his idealization of the ambitious brother who would reign with him). He becomes the new deputy but is soon visited by Tadpoletail in his dreams (dark forest and all) and Tadpoletail kills him to make him join the dark forest. They agree to set their differences aside,start haunting the dreams of their old apprentices (Tumbleclaw and Pebblefoot) and pretend Mistyfoot and them both have been killed by Windclan warriors who wanted to destabilize Riverclan. Leopardstar attacks Windclan. Some people die. Thunderclan joins Windclan’s side, Shadowclan decides to stay neutral. Riverclan is pushed back. Onestar decides to bring war to their own territory, Firestar drops him.

Windclan and Riverclan almost annihilates each other when Blackstar and Firestar bring them forcefully to an emergency gathering and force them to talk things out. Leopardstar reveals that two of her warriors have been receiving dreams of their old mentors telling them Windclan was their murderers. Onestar tells no one from Windclan crossed the borders in moons. Leopardstar and Onestar refuse to believe each other. Lionblaze and Jayfeather come forth and reveal what the Dark Forest is, and say that maybe Hawkfrost and Tadpoletail are not good guys. Riverclan is outraged by the accusation but others take LionJay’s side.

The medicine cats decide to ask Starclan about that, Starclan confirms them Hawkfrost and Tadpoletail are not among them and that the Dark Forest exists (lathough everyone is mad at Jayfeather and Lionblaze for forcing them to admit to the clans that they are not all-knowing/all-powerful).

The clans ally against the dark forest. Dovewing is barely a warrior at the time, the timeline has accelerated. If the people who died still die but that much in advance, it means no Lilyheart or Seedpaw at all since they are never born. Firestar still has at least two lives after the battle. Hollyleaf... comes back way after the battle when saving apprentices from a fox.

She isn’t killed by Hawkfrost, has her own apprentice (Snowbush possibly I don’t really care which one) but never quite fits in the clan. She later choses to go join the Tribe just like Stormfur did before her.

Part 1, because my post is just too long. Questions after reading my posts: What are your thoughts about these? Do you agree or disagree? What do you think are Emmy's flaws as compared to what was told?

Do you think Emory ever hated the Horsemen? Unpopular opinion, I dont think she ever did, and even if she LOOKED like she hated them, I always thought most of it was just a pretense and it was for three main reasons: her grandmere's safety (she was always being tailed by her brother and on multiple occassions where her brother found out about her connection with Will or the Horsemen, he came for them all or took it out on Emmy), her education (she didnt have a safety net and wanted to get out of town asap, not only to get away from he rbrother but because she thought she never really felt out of place more than her own hometown), and she thought she could never be happy or free (because of the way her brother made her feel in her growing (?) years and the issue about how her "fun" is kinda different than the townspeople's definition of "fun". Which also makes me believe that out of many aunties, Mads would get along with Emmy best, not only because she was more open-minded about knowledge and personality, they naturally share a lot of similar hobbies and environment: reading books, a bit more at peace with violence from the get go, silence and introversion, etc. Fundamentally, they're pretty similar, apart from the implied autism/adhd).

Do correct me if I'm wrong though, because when I see people's review of Emmy's feelings or thoughts towards the Horsemen, they always thought that she hated them (shes still their humbler dont get me wrong), but I dont understand why this opinion is a popular one, and I dont remember when she did that too, even at her lowest moments. I dont remember a single time in the books where she ever mentioned whether verbally or in her mind that she hated them, but I remember that she was always and at most just annoyed at them, because they were annoying punks who couldnt leave her alone and understand no means mo. When they werent around though, there was no unnecessary mention of them, she just minded her own business, building things, reading books, bonding with her grandmere, and mooning over Will.

Even when she criticise them in her mind about them or her schoolmates LOOKING happy like they were "17" and "free", she never did anything to hurt them or even spread rumours about them online or anything, unlike what e know of about people like Arion in Kill Switch. Emmy was jealous, yes, but she didnt intentionally put others down for it, she just made a general observation and left them alone, even Will knew this (maybe even the horsmen, but idr). She didnt even know what goes on during Devils Nights, it was just "another Thunder Bay drama" to her. She was just never interested in them, because she had other duties, she dealing with heavy abuse and just thought the things they find "fun" in were usually about humiliating others or shallow things that have not much substance that intrigues her to play with, at that age. We can see her having a lot of fun when she can connect with people on a deeper level though, or things that are related to her hobbies and passion, which a lot of teenagers at her age, did not find "fun" at all. A classic isolating experience of a teenager who had a different meaning of "fun" than the majority, and since a lot of people at that age just dont really understand or having fear of the concept of "not fitting in" and about being "others", she was left out and labelled negatively for it. It's just a high school thing that a lot of people go through too. Ngl, i didnt grew up like emmy, but even i can understand that high school years were really shit lmao, especially with school "cliques".

Which was also the reason why I was weirded out when Emmy and even Will himself called her judgmental because the word "judgmental" has a very negative connotation in their story right, but her "judgments" or "judgmental" thoughts were never even as bad as Rika, Banks, or even Winter (Rika was slutshaming girls and calling them stupid because she was jealous of them, even Alex when they first met, not knowing whythese girls chose to be a sex worker, then Banks literally called Rika Michael's pet project!!! And Alex an overpriced escorts!!! And many more, then we have Winter who called a lot of women in her book, especially Arion, "easy" just because Arion persued Damon, loves to fuck and date around with other guys, but then Winter turned around and ended up being the one to fuck with the same person who did worse than those girls, Damon Torrance, the mysterious guy just because she liked him? I get that these girls grew up with a lack of a maternal kr great women figure, but so did Emmy. Emmy at most I remember, only called those girls that were bullying her, Barbie Dolls and skanks (NOT ANY BETTER, i dont excuse her), but she also made sure to call out the men in the town the same MANY TIMES, especially Will for being part of this culture too, as oppose to the other girls who only came after other girls, but put the Horsemen or other guys on a higher pedestal than other women) but for some reason Rika, Banks and Winter, never label themselves as "judgmental" or were never framed in text as "judgmental". Why?

It's definitely a very interesting choice of narrative by the writer, because not only this thing gets us an insight of Emmy's characterisation of how an abuse victim and survivor might respond to her surroundings at such a young age, but also it's about her being a self-aware person of her own accountability enough early on, and maybe thats why when she vocalises her thoughts, her words could hurt others even more (?) because of how aware she was about her ownself's good and bad, and her general observation about her surroundings. Still hypocritely funny that Will only get mad at her (even Rory) when she was "judging" him and the blackchurch gang by making a general statement about their presence there, but not when they were accomplices in hurting her, threatening her life and safety prior to that table meal, lmao. Theyre so annoying, Emmy was better than me, because if I was in her situation, i wouldnt have only said wore, i wouldve done worse too, I wouldve burnt everything to the ground and made each of them suffer.

Even more interesting because during the present time, Will was even judgier than Emmy (granted he was hurt, traumatised from the jail, and sad and betrayed about the jail and her rejection), acting as if he knew everything about her when he wasnt even a friend to her, so it's not like he knew about her today, anymore than he did in the past, but no one seems to pick up on this? A lot of readers just resd the text and believe whatever things the characters said without taking a step back and look at how contrasting their history, words and actions are. Like when Emmy said that Alex knew Will better and how she was a friend to him and came for him, in my head I was like, "yeah, but its not like he was there for you or knew you any better like he knew or was there for Alex when Aydin or their family werent around tohelp Alex, so why were Emmy so hung up on what she couldnt do for him, while he was never there for her too anyway? All this while dealing with a lot of caring duties, a chance at education and financial freedom, and figuring out if her first love was good for her and each other or not outside of an abusive environment".

There's always an underlying of guilt in Emmy's pov, for "not doing enough for Will" when she barely had and could do enough for herself. The narration made the guilt and burden in her heart looked a lot worse to me, because the man that she felt guilty for wasnt even going through even 10% of what she went through (be it the past or the present), that he or his friends, didnt already do to himself or him, so I just had to stop reading nightfall from time to time because the guilt towards Emmy made ME felt suffocated, then when i looked back at it, it was so unnecessary and unwarranted as if she owed him the world or something, especially for someone who didnt even fight for her enough, before they meet again in blackchurch. It's always "she hurts him", "she didnt came back for him", "she didnt contact him", "she never fought for anything". Ok, but what about HIM? What the fuck was he doing? It took some enjoyment from me, because the undeserved guilt towards Emmy was too much sometimes. They both were weak, but the narrative made me dislike Will because of how weird the whole "its your fault emmy that hes like this". Idk, when it comes to dark romance, i was always really not a big fan of this trope of blaming their love interests for how they are, or the too-dependent-on-the-love-interests, i dont find it romantic, so maybe it's just a me thing.

Short answer to your first question: I don’t think Emory ever hated anyone. Not even her brother, in the end. I think she hated her situation, and had the tendency to lash out or direct her anger at people.

Long answer:

From the first chapter of her past POV we see this:

You’re not wrong at all. Emory didn’t hate them. She hated what they represented: entitlement and privilege. At the same time, she was jealous of their freedom. She was angry at her situation, but she only had so many outlets and The Horsemen, who were considered princes of Thunder Bay, made perfect targets.

But when we listen to her thoughts, any judgements or negative talk is always followed by something softer, almost like a balm she uses to soothe herself or and any insult she might have directed at someone else, even if they didn’t hear it. Because she’s kind. Unless something has really irritated her beyond all rational, typically when she has a negative thought and then does the “except for this” or “but that” and goes out of her way to offer an excuse.

Mads would get along with Emmy best, not only because she was more open-minded about knowledge and personality, they naturally share a lot of similar hobbies and environment: reading books, a bit more at peace with violence from the get go, silence and introversion, etc. Fundamentally, they're pretty similar, apart from the implied autism/adhd).

I like the idea that Emmy would have a special bond with Mads; like out of all the adults, she would get him. Like they’d all accept him as he is, but accepting someone and understanding are different and I also like the idea that he’d feel safe with her. Maybe that’s why he felt comfortable talking to Will in the tree. Will’s like an extension of Emmy??

As far as readers interpreting Emory’s anger as hate, I think it’s probably an easy mistake to make. It appears that so many were already ready to dislike her, that anything other than fawning over the Horsemen was going to be an issue.

I mean, Emory is different in that regard. Rika always liked them. She especially liked Michael. She didn’t like feeling immature next to them and felt uncomfortable around Damon. Despite this, she liked them.

Banks loved Damon and liked Kai well enough to go through Devil’s Night with him. If things were different, she probably would have razzed Will and Michael, but been fond of them nonetheless. Like what we see in the present.

Winter had her “issues” with Damon (if we want to call them that for simplicity), but still felt a connection with him. Other than him, she was fine with the others for the most part, and was even curious about them in school.

Emory had a reason to be angry. It’s her proximity to the Horsemen, because of Will and because of Martin, that it often gets directed at them.

As an example, the pool scene. She just wanted a moment to herself, but here comes the horsemen, ruining her swim even though they have other options. They’re there for the sole purpose of bothering her, and they’re allowed to do it. There’s no one she can complain to. It’s not her pool. They have just as much right to it as she does, but it’s the principle of the matter. This is another situation where she is the victim of their privilege;. Worst, she knows if the circumstances were different, she might even be able to enjoy the moment with them. Will clearly wanted her to. She’d have liked to. But she couldn’t and she was angry. She lashed out.

The horsemen also bothered Martin to the point that it gets back to her, whether they always intended to or not. This upset her further with them because they never had to think about the ripple effect their actions had.

If Will never had a reason to bother her or target Martin, Emory probably could have lived her life in Thunder Bay off their radar, and they off of hers except for the occasional blip. She might have always been prejudiced against them because of their entitlement and privilege, and how they chose to use it, but not with the horsemen alone – with everyone at the school. The horsemen just seem to be an easy target because they were so brazen about it.

You’re right; high school is hard for a lot of people. Emory would have had a difficult time anyway. Even if Martin was a normal older brother, she was still dealing with:

A sick grandmother

Being poor in a wealthy town/going to school with those in a different class bracket

Being different marked as different because of that, but additionally her brother is a cop

Since Martin cared so much about appearances, it's not a leap to assume that if Martin could give her a new uniform, he would have. But in the text, she wears one that is outdated, too big for her, and falling apart. Money was tight, in a town where most people have more money than they know what to do with.

Because of the lack of extra spending money, there would have been a lot she couldn’t do with her classmates. I doubt she would have wanted to rely on Will for everything, all little the extras at school. And because Martin was a cop, she would have to be extra careful not to get caught in their outside of school activities. That would have caused a strain on their relationship too – and even Emory thinks about this when she imagines their future, saying that she wouldn’t fit in with his friends and eventually he’d get tired of trying to make it work.

And at the end of the day, she’s still an introvert who would rather spend time with a few select people or alone, working on her projects, rather than party every weekend.

Yeah, there were a lot of ways that Emory’s life would have still been difficult even if we remove the abuse from the equation. No matter what, she would be different from her peers and we know how people treat those who are different…

I think part of Emory’s growth was that she… convinced herself that she wouldn’t like their type of fun because it was beneath her. She needed to think not so highly of herself in comparison to them. But that pride and anger was one of the few things getting her through. If she let go of it, she’d have no defense against Martin or the abuse. She’d have nothing to support her getting away. She need her anger to fuel her drive. I think even she knew that, realistically, which is why we see her pull back at times. Like with Elle. She says something, that even though she believes it, she knew would be offensive and not at all what she intended to do and immediately apologizes for being rude.

Because Emory doesn’t want to be rude. She’s not mean. She occasionally has prejudices that leap from her when she’s feeling irritated, but she usually pulls it back when she takes a moment to calm down. Her pride can get the better of her at times; she’s so used to relying on it to get her through stressful situations. It’s not her go-to.

With Blackchurch, what was she supposed to think before she knew the real situation? All she knew was she was surrounded by men who came from wealth (i.e., the freedom to do whatever they wanted without consequence) who had been deemed “uncontrollable” by their own families. Like you said, they threatened her, fought her, Will was remarkably angry with her. She judged the situation and the men as dangerous and acted accordingly. The specifics only change the situation when the men (mainly Rory and Micah) start treating her better. With new information available, she adjusts her understanding.

I feel like being judgmental would mean that no new or relevant information would change anything for her. She would still hate them based on them being murders and whatever else they were. She still kept her distance from Taylor because his treatment of her never changed. He remained a threat so she treated him like one. The others changed, and so did her response to them.

I don’t know, maybe I’m giving her too much leeway. But I never felt that she was judgmental; I thought that was a defense Will cooked up to comfort himself when in the depth of his heart he knew he was wrong, he just couldn’t get over himself.

Emmy cares so much about people, often to her detriment. It makes sense that she carries guilt, but as I’ve always said, it’s undeserved. But that’s who she is, so it came into play. It’s a shame that more readers don’t see that about her. Will’s issues were always about him; what he wanted from her, what he wanted her to think, what he wanted her to do. What he wanted, period. Meanwhile, Emmy wanted him to be happy. She wanted him to move on, because she wasn’t in a place to make him happy, and honestly, she might never be. Even when she thought she’d betrayed them, she was expecting he’d come for revenge because she didn’t think he deserved to go to prison for hurting Martin or the gazebo, no matter how it affected her personally.

She understood his anger and grief, but couldn’t take it away. I didn't think it was hers to bear though.

But she needed to learn how to throw it away and get to a place where she didn’t need her anger to move forward anymore.

Jjk manga spoilers

I'm currently rewatching jjk for the first time since I saw it a year and a half ago (and bc I had seen S1 I told myself I didn't need to read many of those chapters in the manga). I can't believe I'm only just now realizing so many things.

1. Megumi really thought his dad was just some deadbeat who left him behind. You'd think that considering how important Toji was and the fact that Gojo, Megumi's foster dad, killed him, megumi would've been informed about what actually happened.

2. Kenny's plan has seriously been laid out since like the very beginning. Shibuya, October 31st 2018, the prison realm. He seriously told Jogo and co. about all of that at the restaurant in like episode 3(idr and I defs don't know which chapter but I'm too lazy to look it up lmao)

3. Kenny literally says that the 2 things he needs in order to complete his plan are for gojo to be sealed and for him to get on Sukuna and Yuji's good side. And considering where the manga is right now, with Kenny trying to make a sacred bath for Sukuna to cleanse himself in and the fact that Kenny had Jogo and the twins feed Yuji like 10 fingers, I think we're finally at that point.

4. Tengen and the barrier were mentioned by both Mei and Yaga during the Kyoto Exchange event.

5. The details regarding the Night Parade of 100 Demons are mentioned sporadically throughout (e.g., Geto running the show, Yuta and Rika, Todo being an absolute menace).

6. I legitimately don't know how I didn't see it sooner but Noritoshi Kamo and Geto look so much alike. Way too much to just be another coincidence. Like:

The angular nose, the eyebags, sharp jawline, etc. I mean just look at them. Also, they have an affinity for wearing more traditional clothes. In Kamo's backstory, they mention that his mom was a "slutty mistress." So who's to say they don't share the same mother? Granted it seems like the connection is more likely to be on the dad's side, but considering that Suguru's family name is Geto and that he shares no connection to any of the three main clans, that may not be the case after all (unless he was just never told of who his biological father was - kinda like megumi). But another connection is their cursed techniques Blood Manipulation and Curse Manipulation.

Either way they look way too similar for it to be a coincidence. Plus Kenny currently has control over Geto's body but he previously controlled the old Noritoshi Kamo.

7. I didn't know that Yuki's first appearance was literally with Garuda. I really thought it was just Yuki by herself

My weird HC for Agora cause she's brought up right now.

Lady Agora might be one of few scp characters that could actually have psychopathy and not just "she's evil" but actually lacks being able to empathized with someone.

She seemed to try to teach her son not to murder and/or hurt people, but she herself overall doesn't seem to care whether people did or not. She wanted to kill Francis cause reality benders are a net negative to everything. Agora cares about her son but at the same time its very questionable.

I don't read her as outwardly malicious just really uncaring or just doesn't understanding why people see her action as evil (she decoded the fucking Codex, openly just says she should've killed her child (she had no reason to ever say this out loud or put in a fucking document) and that "it doesn't matter what happens to them [other brides and/or Meri/children idr which this was referring to]"), she thinks this is fine to say "I've explained the book to you, said my son action are bad and I noticed he would be a problem and did nothing" without thinking what the fuck she just implied.

Lady Agora doesn't want people dead or reality destroyed, she just doesn't understand why she was ever in the wrong (as she emits to wrong doing) or how people hope her thoughts on that matter to be exaggerated (which they don't seem to be.) She just lacks this part of comprehending.

Oh shoot I think I might have made it seem like Agora was just "evil" yesterday did not mean to do that. "Questionable" is a term I like for her. The way that she acts and her I guess words, there is "care" in her own way but...she removes herself from the narrative (?) like she wasn't a person involved in the situation, just an audience. She acts like an outsider in alot of this and the way she writes. Like she keeps referring to her son with his designation number "B" rather than his name. But also there are points that she rambles about her "what if", so there are still some guilt but she never really makes herself take action for it

Alot of her writing feels...cold (? I am not sure how to explain it) especially when she was talking about the hellish experiences Francis had in containment and his nightmares there. Her love for him...I don't know, it feels like sometimes she just has no emotional care or attachments but...for there to be guilt there needs to be some care

First impression- "ugh cop lady she's mean to jon :/ oh no she's gonna kill Jon!" My opinions on Daisy are the same as the common experience with Charles Vane of Black Sails, where on first watch everyone's like "ew, this guy" but by the end of the series and on every subsequent rewatch at least half of people have switched to "it's my guy!!! i love him!!!"

Favorite moment- the first time she comes into Jon's office to hang out post-Buried. Idr the episode, but she asks if she can like, stand in the corner while he records a statement. Close second is when she does the same thing to Martin, with the explicit purpose of having company, and even though he's deep in the Lonely he says sure

Idea for a story- hmm i think my best really Daisy-centric plot bunny rn is the mad max: fury road au. I think i've mentioned it once or twice, it's got Jonah/Elias as Joe, Basira, Jon, Sasha, and Tim as the Wives, Martin, Melanie, and maybe Georgie as War Boys, and Daisy as Furiosa. With evil library as the central motif/villain's goal instead

Unpopular opinion- the people who hate hate hate Daisy bc she's a cop like. Don't get it. like not liking the character for that reason's totally reasonable, but i've seen some ppl react to any mention of her (and to a lesser extent basira) like you've tried to set them on fire, and will write her/them out of aus, or even express the opinion that you can't put them in aus bc they have to be cops and cops bad, but making them Not Cops is missing the point. And while I agree that making the Not Cops is often missing the point, so is abhorring their characters like this (keep saying them but it's mostly daisy basira gets a pass for being a lil bit beholding i think, so you can take her that direction and ignore the cop stuff). like them being cops Is The Point, thematically. and while it's totally fair to not like them or stories about them because of that, that doesn't mean any fanwork about Daisy is automatically police apologia, even if she's written sympathetically. This tends to crop up a lot in the anti-redemption arc for anyone crowd that likes to declare characters too evil to change, which is missing the point in a different way, but it's not exclusively them. Like abolish the police! But after that we do have to continue living in a world with my neighbor Mike The Cop, we can't just exile him from society. even aside from the police stuff, realizing that you've been convinced of your rightness for a long time, but have actually drifted far away from your original goals and morals without realizing, and trying to change for the better, is a generally rad theme to get into! and also sometimes u just wanna talk about a cool werewolf lady and her friends. that's fine too.

Favorite relationship- in general, the obvious choice is her and Jon, but her and martin is a close second (some of my most popular posts are martin and daisy ones lol). if we're talking romance, Daisira is really the only game in town as far as i'm concerned. well... you could maybe do a fun au where basira's the buried one and the basira/melanie interseason thing i like to posit is instead melanie/daisy, with them feeding into the worst of each other and... well, there's a bonus story idea!

so due to dome heavy procrastination I've consumed a lot of teen wolf content, i skipped a bunch of episodes and a lot of scenes in the ones i haven't but i still have some Thoughts TM

it's good??? i had a Good Time watching, it was funny but intense and dark and i felt Feelings watching, some of the plotlines were meh (or maybe i just skipped them heh) but a lot were interesting and i loved the characters and their interaction

scott. my sweetheart. my baby. such a cutiepie, such a great protagonist 10/10 i love him and would die for him. he's so pure and cute and his little smile melts my heart. i love how he's fundamentally Human no matter how non human he is. he's a great character all around and i kinda wish they didn't do that shit to him at the end (imma get there) or treated him like he ISN'T the protagonist for such big parts of the shows

people KNOW. Stiles knows from day one, allison finds out soon, his mom finds out in season 2! the sheriff in 3, and they just become part of the gang and can help them with stuff bc they UNDERSTAND. shows like that get really tiring when the teens constantly lie to everyone around them and it was very refreshing. the running gag with the coach ruining things tho was funny and I'm ok with it.

Ok this is mellisa appreciation time. she's SUCH a great, complex and unusual mom-of-hero character. i absolutely love her and her attitude, i love how she's not simply being used as a tool to cause scott pain (just.. sometimes) and their relationship is parenting goals.

allison was all around great imo, her and scott's relationship was built very well and was two sided from the start (unlike... yeah), she has emotions, she's smart and brave, but also human and scared, she kicks ass and, again, exists outside of Scott's GF status (mostly). andddd they killed her. idk if the actress had to/wanted to leave or it was a pure writers decision bc they needed to keep just her father or something, but that would have been ok if not for all the other things

we have 3 main kickass ladies with powers- lydia, kira and malia. lydia spent close to FIVE whole seasons not knowing anything about her abilities/not knowing how to control them. cmon, it gets old. scott masters his powers after a season or two (and had control a lot sooner), parrish finds out what he is like half a season after it becomes relevant etc.

malia- do i need to explain? she was CONSTANTLY struggling controlling her abilities, no matter how badass she supposedly was. and kira oh boy, they did her dirty, didn't they?

kira was such a cute adorable character. i loved her and her little crush on scott and wanting to make friends and being freaked out about relationships, i love her discovering her past and heritage and learning to fight and gaining control and becoming a badass. but. what? they just undid all this? oh no the fox is taking over she has no control no agency of her own she needs to disappear for years now bye :( again, idk if the actress needed to leave but it was so unsatisfying and was insulting to the character. she wasn't even mentioned later a bunch like allison was, just they needed her mom for a plot tool and didn't even acknowledge it was her sword they were breaking. uhm rude?

i love the concept of a pack on the show and how you don't have to be a werewolf to be a part of it, how scott becomes a true alpha and how he cares about his friends. i kinda feel like in later seasons him being an alpha was more talk than show which like /: meh. like i said, he stopped BEING the main character, just talked about as if he was.

malia and scott. what. the. fuck. when, out of fucking no where, they had like a lingering look or something i was just "nope. no thanks". and then every scene they had together i had to cover my eyes bc it felt so wrong and bad and awkward. jesus. no build up at ALL, they're like family, i just. ew. no. it felt way too much like "oh we gotta pair off the leftovers" or "the main character can't end up single" well guess what, he fucking can. it was. god. i can't even explain the disgust. when he needed to heal and all she had to do was kiss him ugh. it felt so fake and empty of meaning. i would 100% prefer for it to be stiles (I'll get there) or his mom who snapped him out of it.

melissa and chris, i could get aboard with that. def cute, def weird af since his dead daughter was dating her son but, well.

stiles and lydia is a ship i have conflicting feelings about. i absolutely hate the concept of "the nerd" is in love with the popular girl since freshman year and he's borderline being a creep ("oh but it's stiles! he's a dork and he's harmless" no.), completely obsessed with her and she ignores him but then they end up getting together.. i mean, it sends a bad msg to obsessed boys about how it's worth it in the end, and it makes the whole relationship feel unbalanced from the start, makes her reciprocation feel unatural. BUT, i have to admit the show did kinda make me warm up to this ship by the end, curse them. it was kinda cute. i wish there was more mutualness before it became such an important part in 6a tho.

just gonna put it out there: malia/kira and lydia/allison. i wish we saw more girl on girl interactions in general but the ones we had were very good, great dynamics.

i won't get too much into it but i.. i don't ship st*rek. i understand why they're the biggest ship (two white hot boys that interact with each other, i mean.), and i see the couple of fan service-y moments the show throws at us but just. they don't have my heart, i don't really care about them. not the characters, the characters i absolutely love! (tho this watch i skipped most of season 1 and 2 and 3a and i think that's where derek is the most asshole.. didn't he do really bad things? idr) idk if you want a bad character on the way to redemption with someone you should ship liam and theo who had way better shippy chemistry imo, even tho their ship probably wouldn't be healthy given their dynamic history, huh.

the ship that does owns my heart? scilies. I'm a softy when it comes to best friends to lovers, and their bond and relationship is just. so. pure. don't get me wrong, i love me a good platonic relationship, but there was just one to many homoerotic interactions between them for me not to ship it, hard. (not to be that person but my guess is that if Scott was white it would have been a way bigger ship, but who knows?) i love their love, i love they would do anything for each other, and i feel like there were a bunch of very missed opportunities for them in later seasons :(

so representation. this feels like a show that is trying to be Woke TM but it's not going so well. the main character is supposedly latino but it's never ever addressed. idc about "oh we want a world without prejudice" you can still fucking address it. i mean they went to Mexico a couple of times, stiles keeps saying "Mexican cousin" i mean. god. give us something. did i mention scott was told he'd make a great "nazi youth" ..

and you don't need to be a genius to see the most characters are very white or at least very white passing. and when you don't address their non whiteness they might as well be..

i already mentioned how poorly i feel kira was treated, but also mason, who is a wonderful character, gets no depth? we know nothing about him other than being gay and smart pretty much.

i also spoke about the women already but, they were really really great women characters, but not enough of them, not enough that lasted.

there's not much to talk about disability bc it just wasn't on the show. the only blind character was healed which. /: same with epilepsy and asthma..

i think the show is probably very proud (ha) with their LGBTQ+ rep bc they're like "oh let's make this insignificant couple gay bc hey nbg". examples are lydia's grandma, La Bete and marcel, i think nolan and jiang were exes and then nolan and gabe were a thing? idr if it was explicit. the couple of girls in the tent.. probably a couple more. it's nice, def better than all random couples being straight but that's not satisfying as rep.

Danny was great. i think he and ethan were.. cute? i think he was awesome, i loved danny so much and was very excited to learn he KNOWS at the end of season 3 and was waiting to see him join the pack. instead he fucking disappeared?! wtf. #WhereDidDannyGo

brett was cute rep, especially being bi but i feel like it could go into the insignificant pool which, again, is better than nothing.

mason and corey i just don't have strong feelings about. they were definitely cute and I'm glad they were together, i love mason A Lot. i think this relationship could be explored more, or at least the characters could be explored more to give this relationship more depth.

i think the rep i was most happy about was ethan and Jackson. even tho i don't think there was build up or clues in the first couple of seasons, I'm happy for the actor who i know was struggling with coming out publicly, and it was very fun and refreshing for the ending. even if we got very few scenes with them the dynamic was 10/10

the biggest problem is obviously stiles. i just don't understand why, if they're so supposedly progressive, they went to that length to queerbait without following through. the whole gag of wanting to be attractive to danny and to gay guys, the whole "aww danny want to have sex with me that's so nice", the whole "do you like guys too?". it's a gag. his alleged bisexuality is the butt of a joke, and it pisses me the fuck off. they don't have to make it a big deal or have him get a bf for it to be official. it wasn't subtle subtext. it was a CHOICE. to put a spotlight on his sexuality but not deliver. -100/10 would not recommend.

One of my friends a while back asked for the explanation of how Chaos worked in Lore (my Ranisson / AdventureQuest Worlds canon) and what it’s like in a hivemind, so I gave them an explanation over discord dms. Since I don’t feel like writing up another post about it, I’m just going to copy paste under the cut. Bolded was their second question. It’s not formatted for an actual post, being in all lowercase, but eh.

As always, I take questions if any are thought up. 

magic in lore works like a tiered triangle, in four tiers. the first tier up at the top is raw, pure, balance magic. it's very, very unstable and volatile, exceedingly rare, and kills most people to get near. i only know of three people who could use it, and only one who did so in a proper, balanced way. (his name was warlic. his magic ran in reverse - the more he used, the more he'd get. he was very very good at his job.) underneath balance on tier two are the two binding elements, order and chaos. they do exactly that, they don't really exist on their own but they can be used to hold other elements together. if met together without anything to hold, they cancel out. my theory is that if the two coexisted in a world properly and naturally, they'd remove all magic from the world entirely. hence why there are two versions of lore: the one i was in, and the one we called the mirror realm. (the mirror folks called us the mirror realm and they were the normal ones. as one does.) order existed in the mirror realm, chaos existed in ours. underneath them in the third tier are the eight 'pure' elements. they're called pure because people didn't know about the tiered structure until drakath's husband (he's important) figured it all out. you got water, fire, wind, earth, light, darkness, lightning, and ice. ice would be more accurately called chill, and fire more accurately heat. water's opposite is actually lightning, not fire. if you take one or more tier three elements and slap a tier two on it, you get tier four: every other element that exists. if you combine darkness and fire with chaos, then you get a type of death energy. bind them with order you'd get something else, change either element or hell, even the ratio of them relative to each other, you'll get something else.

that's how magic works. but it also works in tandem with people. the magic system was set up probably by lorithia, a creation-aligned goddess who's worshipped religiously but it's more cultural than religious tbh. she set in place three spots for mortals to take up regarding magic: the avatar, the champion, and the orb-bearer. the avatar of a given tier two or three element exists once, and only once. they're naturally immortal but can be killed, and once they're gone, you'll never get another avatar of that element without lorithia interfering, or something. their second in command is the champion: there's always a champion, or someone intended to become them. they hold the throne while the avatar's out, and while you can be both avatar and champion, avatars aren't that common and we don't know much about them, so. under the champion is the orb-bearer: the orbs exist for tier-two elements, and act as the conscience of the element. if you want to pick a fight with lightning itself, go find the orb-bearer and go yell at them, i guess. drakath's husband was the avatar of chaos. his name was daniel arkhane, and i refer to him only as the avatar because it's rude to say anything else. i'll specify if i mean another avatar, but literally no other one ever showed up in anything i had anything to do with afaik so i don't care about them. he became the avatar because for his final project in warlic's class at his university, he was handed a classgem (concentrated bits of tier two-to-four elements that tune your magic to that 'class', very similar to an rpg) of mysterious origin and told to figure out what it was and everything to do with it. except that classgem was pure tier-two chaos, which realized it was handling someone whose magic ran in reverse and who could probably handle balance magic without dying, and he ended up avatar. he took the natural chaos in the world and went about engineering it, seeing what he could do. he was pretty angry at sepulchure for trying to colonize his people (the lunaris sentinels, they're a canon thing) and killing his adopted mother, as well as everything sepulchure's ever done to drakath (it's like what dragonfable tells you, but with way more trauma), and he never got too far in it because sepulchure's raids dropped a building on him. the chaorruption i've got tells me his skull got crushed in, which i didn't need to know but okay sure. drakath is the champion of chaos. he took the avatar's research and went farther with it, until he had something past raw magic, that could actually take a form, and he went about using it and experimenting with what it could do. he wanted the war to stop, and figured if he had a classgem of the championship of chaos (as being the champion requires the classgem of the championship, and those fuckers teleport if they think they're not getting found), he might actually make it work. so he created a version of chaos magic that wouldn't kill you if it took you: it would just bind you to it. say you're a paladin, with a classgem of a paladin class, which is water-air-light bound with order? yeah, now he's binding water-air-light with chaos, and you're still a paladin but now you're chaorrupted. if you used raw chaos with water-air-light, you wouldn't get a paladin. idr what you'd get but it wouldn't be that. his version literally corrupted it magically. now, all the tier two and three elements can corrupt, if you tune them right. i've seen magicorruption from other elements and it's never fun, but drakath's chaos did it in a way that could be fun, if you were the right kind of person. drakath was, effectively, a uni student in his mid twenties who had seen too much and was basically a punk with anarchist leanings. so he needed an army to stop the war, and he needed to not get caught, and so he took those nobody would miss. those a moment before suicide, those who worked in swordhaven doing what nobody wanted them to do (gamblers, prostitutes, etc), those who were getting hurt. he took everyone that might be happier with him, and left nothing but a trace of his chaos magic - which was bright as fuck purple goop that sent you into a coma if you touched it and got infected when he didn't want you to. he made an army of the people nobody on either side wanted, and nobody save for a few adventurers noticed, because nobody cared. he also ended up with a few people from other worlds, because he wasn't the avatar and couldn't control it completely. (i showed up later. i have ranisson's memories and she has mine, but we're separate people who spent a bit of time swapping bodies for a bit. hence why we're now 'kin with each other. one of my longtime mutuals was also in this position. his name's lance and we're still bffs.) and then he went and chaorrupted alteon, straight up murdered sepulchure, and started an alliance between what was left of their armies as everyone turned on him. smug tall bastard. guy was 6'7" and already saved the world when sepulchure told him to gather all the orbs and he fused with the dragon of light to bind them to keep from basically nuking the world. that dragon was the aforementioned fluffy. he then lost the orbs in a volcano and we never went back for them, rip. but here's what chaorruption does to you: it's a hivemind, in the way that everyone's hooked up to a peer-to-peer database network. telepathy across the entire network. if you know a Fact, everyone knows the Fact. people know automatically what triggers those around them, without consciously knowing it: you just know not to bring it up if you get close to the topic. if you try really really hard, you can swap identities with others. this proved very useful when we had most of the army turn into drow (dark elves, who were virtually extinct) at the order of chaos lord vath, a pissed off drow who grew up with dragons after dwarves basically genocided his people. he wanted more drow like him and for a time we could make that happen for him, so we did. it also had the avantage of nobody knowing who the fuck actually just killed their little sister: all they knew is that a chaos drow did it, not that it was actually johnny mcgee who's actually a water draconian. we all knew who each other was, but nobody else did. it also meant that with our telepathy, we could and would confuse the fuck out of everyone. we could chatter and cross language barriers. didn't matter if you were yelling gibberish at me, i'd know through the chaos what you meant to tell me. if you explained some concept i'd never understood but another chaorrupted person would, then so long as i was actively using my magic and chaorruption, i'd be able to do it. not as well as the person who understood it normally would, but i'd be able to do a passing job. so what we'd do is yell everything at each other in various languages and out of order, and we'd know what was going on, and nobody else would. it really did reinforce the idea of chaos- if you weren't in the know, it was nonsensical and impossible to follow. we could change an entire strategy of attack in about five seconds, because the chaos was faster than we could be otherwise. the only way to defeat us was straight up overpowering us, which only happened if we couldn't move as fast as you could. it happened, but eh. so basically i'm very used to a hivemind and there's nothing quite like it. it's actually terrifying if you're not properly one of us, which is what minos went through in that fic - he was part of the hivemind, but he wasn't part of chaos, hence why it was killing him slowly from the inside out. if any of us had found him, we would've dragged him in to get initialized and he would've probably been fine. but ah, everyone i know who hears me talk about chaos knows it as this great, really nice thing, and i wanted to drive home that for everyone else, it was fucking terrifying. but for me? it was great, and it's such a huge part of what and who i am that i feel it'd be impossible to not notice if you knew what you were looking for, yeah?

"I'm curious though, does that mean that in the hive mind, you could change your appearance through chaos magic? Or was it a skill shared throughout the hive mind? I'm also curious as to what you mean by swapping bodies?"

if someone else had what you wanted, yes! you could kind of mix and match? like, if someone had straight snow white hair and yours was bright green and curly, you could take their hair entirely, but you couldn't get a light green or curly white hair, or straight green hair. but you could take just their hair and someone else's eyes. and if they changed their hair to someone's red buzzcut, you couldn't take their hair at all unless you own the red buzzcut, in which you can just swap with each other. if you wanted to make a triangle of swapping you could, but it'd take actual engineering of the magic versus just deciding to. and if you weren't using your magic actively you'd go back to your actual form, hence why if we died we'd transform back. and as far as the magic was concerned, your identity was just another feature. a trans guy and a cis girl absolutely could swap genders if they wanted to. but that part was kind of experimental, meant for those who generally had so much trauma they couldn't be themselves at the moment and needed a break, and there was bleedthrough. if you swapped to get someone else's gender, you were likely to get chunks of the rest of them, too. people absolutely tried to swap traumas and it kind of worked, though it wasn't very commonplace. and you couldn't just take, you had to give whatever you were replacing. so if you wanted to get rid of your curly green hair, someone had to take it, or you had to talk to someone who specialized in engineering (chaosweavers) to permanently alter you, replacing what you had with raw chaos. it wasn't perfect, but if you had raw chaos instead of something else, it would effectively spit out what a fully-chaorrupted person might look like. it had a template. spiky black hair, grayish-violet skin, bright purple eyes with white or black sclera, open sores with a layer of dragonscales underneath instead of flesh, purple blood, way too many teeth, around 5'8"-6'2", muscular builds with thick legs and upper arms. occasionally extra eyes. since this made for a better disguise than the drow thing usually did, a lot of people opted for that when they had traits that nobody they found really wanted. though if someone did eventually want the trait that the chaosweavers removed, odds were good they'd wake up with it unexpectedly and it'd be permanent unless the chaos was removed from them entirely. it was always fun to wake up in the morning and wonder if today was the day you rolled on that 5% chance you look different now. i don't remember if anyone was against it, but it was definitely unexpected, tbh

people really liked their motifs in lore. like, morality was... surprisingly different. there was no "you're a good person" or "you're evil", because people referred to swordhaven as Good and shadowfall as Evil. you could be a kind, really nice person who was Evil, but by our terms, not necessarily evil. are you evil if you don't kill people, even if your friends all do and you're cool with it? are you good even though you throw people out of your city for trying to do illegal things just to survive? these aren't questions that you'll find in lore at all. your personal morality means nothing, it's what faction banner you're under. the only time that stuff matters is if you're an adventurer, because they only ally with who gets them the resources they want. (heroes are a type of adventurer, they have prophecies about them and are regarded as not real adventurers, because they didn't get a choice. i knew quite a few heroes who refused to say they were because the prophecy was secondary to their adventures.) adventurers are all over the place, but morality as a personal thing as we know it was... basically nonexistent? it was really different

How did they first meet?

Teague gets invited to the Golden Gato by other overseers which LOL but Teague wanted to fit in and not give away anything of his ulterior motives. He literally chose Eris because he thought she was the prettiest girl.

What was their first impression of each other?

Eris was taken aback at an overseer being at the Gato and she thought he looked bored/mildly uncomfortable while he was being pressured into picking a girl. Then when she took him to her room he stayed several feet away from her and didn’t attempt to make any moves on her which she weirdly liked lmao. Teague like I mentioned just thought she was very pretty but beyond that he didn’t think much of her and didn’t really want to talk to her at first until he made small talk with her and thought she was clever/funny.

Did any of their friends or family want them to get together?

No one really knew.. I mean the girls at the cat had inklings but they didn’t talk about it. They did tease Teague when he’d visit by saying “Let me guess, you’re here for Eris? ;)” Other than that no one had expressed for them to not be together. 

Who felt romantic feelings first?

Eris.... dumb hoe. It happened after Teague had been taken to his bdsm trap at the square but of course Eris didn’t know that. When he returned after he’d been rescued, she Knew that there was something more because if it had been anyone else she wouldn’t have cared if they came back, but with Teague, she’d been relieved to see that he returned to her, so from there her feelings for him grew.

Did either of them try to resist their feelings?

Eris did mainly due to her not wanting to get close to any of her clients. Teague just buried the feelings deep down knowing there couldn’t be anything more between them.

If you had told one of them that the other would be their soulmate, what would they think?

Teague would ignore it, Eris would believe it.

Who initiated the relationship, and how did it go?

Teague did, but it was kinda funny the way he asked. Mainly due to her being a courtesan, so she did have clients... but he was like “Could you.. ask for clients that don’t sleep with you?” and was like “That’s how I get paid....?” so she had to get clients who asked for massages or like footjobs idk it was pretty funny though

Did they have an official first date? If so, what was it like?

They can’t really date, but he did take her out once on a walk around the Cat.. nothing eventful lmao but Eris had a nice time getting to be out of the cat and have a conversation with Teague with their clothes on, so.

What was their first kiss like?

Eris kissed Teague when they first met. He’d been acting standoffish with her and she kept getting close to him and asked him if he’d ever been with a courtesan before. He told her no and that he had no interest. She was gonna give him a kiss on the cheek but when he’d seen her coming close to her he was going to ask what she was doing, but the movement of turning to see her made her kiss him on the lips but she went all in. Just knowing each other’s routines, what ticks the other off, remembering what the other likes.. for example Eris will make him food and be like “I remembered you mentioning you liking this before, so I made it for you.”

In the beginning, they wouldn’t be affectionate in public, but once they’re living in Karnaca they’re almost always holding hands or he’ll kiss her at random times when they’re out for their walks around the docks.

It’s a private wedding tbh. Clara and Mateo are there though.

They do have two kids, but one is from a previous relationship, so technically they’ve got one together. Funny enough Mateo acts more like Teague. Mateo and Callum are four years apart but they’re really close and are always found together. Mateo uses his charm to get out of trouble, while Callum is a little more chaotic, but at the end of the day he’s a mama’s boy :^)

No.. but Mateo and Callum find a hound  who they name “Lux” and sneak out to feed him late at night. Teague knows about it, but he doesn’t tell Eris.

Eris, but she’s not that strict. Teague’s just a little more lax when it comes to either of the boys misbehaving unlike Eris, but she hates getting after them. I was originally kind of annoyed that dropout wasn’t working when I wanted to do this originally, but it’s actually kind of a blessing in disguise now that I think about it because it means I get to rewatch and discuss the ep in light of the bombshells Brennan dropping in the BTS video.

As I watch the Previouslies, I realize I’m still not over the fact that Maggie named her kid after Leiland. It was so sweet an unexpected. 

So, at the start of this episode, Brennan must have realized that his plans are pretty much jossed because the 4 baby blessing was *very* not on the docket

I love that Lilith treat’s Sohkbar as if he’s also a parent.

Two words I’ve learned to fear since I’ve started watching RPG shows: Lair action.

Leiland just BARELY not being on the falling chunk of floor.

Brennan really faked me out on that Jason fall. Man really was about to make me cry over a fictional spider for the SECOND TIME in my life (Charlotte’s Web).

I love Erika screaming over Jason in and out of character separately.

AOE spells are so boss.

“Everyone look at Leiland! He’s doing it!” Aww, everyone finally gets to see him be cool! It’s really wild how much of an arc these guys went through in just 2 days of play. It’s very narratively consistent.

“Oh you fucking freak, you’d love that.”

“Tell him something is gonna happen to his bones but don’t explain it.”

Rekha loudly announcing her ridic amount of hitpoints is on of my fave things

I love how in both campaigns so far, Brennan has had a moment of, “You’re not bad at magic, you’re just depressed.” What an oddly specific thing but also, relateable.

Leiland curses one of the Vingury. I’m sure that won’t be important later (I’m lying).

Ify/Markus just refusing to learn Hobbert and Frod’s names.

So I guess the real lesson of this season of D20 is always commit to your running jokes because you’ll get free nonsense out of it. (A 19! That’s so painful!)

The full 6 seconds of silence from Matt between his saying  he loves J'er'em'ih more than any other animal companion and looking directly at the camera and saying, “Except for Trinket,” very seriously.

Brennan, whose plans have now been entirely womped: :O.

I truly didn’t even consider attacking the boatman. I feel like this is such a good DM moment, because I feel like my reaction would have been, “That’s not how this works,” but Bren just let it happen, which is better both for the story and player agency. I’m taking notes.

Sohkbar claims the baby as his ward. This baby is gonna have so many godparents.

I love the ancient evil statues have Lilith’s back on the fact that she should have gotten the promotion.

When Leiland Jr was born Brennan was like, “He’s not gonna do much. He’s a baby.” One ep later this baby is taking turns and fireblasting enemies and talking like he’s the Godfather.

OK so there’s a lair action. Leiland rolls a NAT ONE to not plummet into the Bloodkeep. Brennan clearly is ready to bring out the ghost figurines we saw in the BTS.

The statue Lilith JUST got the blessing from falls which means if she hadn’t gotten it that turn, they would have been screwed. Sidenote: Brennan says it was an instant lose condition for them which is part of why I was surprised that this wasn’t his plan to begin with. He just readjusted everything on the fly and set new parameters. What a good, confidence projecting, quick thinking DM.

It’s Leiland’s turn. He is once again falling to his doom. This time, without the bossa nova music and soothing apathy because he actually has something to live for.

AND HE USES HIS HEX TO TELEPORT TO THE VINGURY HE HEXED BEFORE.

It was JUST close enough. And he almost cursed Olag instead! That decision saved his undead ass!

I love that Leiland is Uncle Leiland to Jason! And later Jessa calls Efink Aunt Efink.  I wanna see evil Thanksgiving so bad.

“You’re really killing it today Leiland!” My boy finally getting the praise he deserves. (Also, wild that this is all still THE SAME DAY)

“oKAY, okay, OKAY, oKay.” –Brennan having a moment

“You wanted us to play evil characters but we’re actually playing evil players.”

Man this episode is truly how Leiland got his groove back, huh?

Boatman rolls a 4 to resist fear. Go Leiland!

“I take off my mask to reveal…I’m sexy as fuck.”

Everyone including the evil statue is hot for Markus.

“Shut the fuck up, Olag. Go kill yourself.” Maggie just has no patience for nonsense (that’s not the kind of nonsense she enjoys anyway).

“Do I take psychic damage from that?”

Lilith gets a nat 20!

Maggie, upon Leiland calling her 'my queen’ for the second time: Just call me Maggie, please.

“THAT’S AN ABILITY  J'ER'EM'IH  HAS?”/“I guess.”

“Lilith, you’re my girl! Lilith, my girl!” They grab hands over the table. It’s such a pure moment.

Brennan after they kill the Boatman: I mean, fuck me I guess.

Leiland goes down. Leiland Jr. goes, “Nah, get up, you’re fine,” and he gets back up. (Brennan at this point has clearly fully leaned in to the direction his players dragged him).

Leiland comes back as Leiland the White. And I just realized! That’s the ghost figurine! I thought that was the figure Bren got for when Leiland inevitably completed his story arc. No! It was the figure for in case Leiland DIED.

Nat 20 from Maggie to avoid falling into the Bloodkeep!

Leiland lets Markus convince him to not kill Olag (for future shenanigans). Leiland instead owns Toby and rolls a 29 to convince Oswald back onto their side. Toby also comes as a zombie on their side. Everything’s coming up Leiland!

Except no, he goes back down immediately and falls face first into the blood pool.

OK, check it. Markus bargains with one of the evil statues to make Olag alive and undead for eternity. The statue is kinda on board but wants to make a trade. Markus basically goes, “Watch this,” and STEPS INTO THE VOID.

Go back and watch Amy’s reaction. It’s so genuinely shocked and concerned. Matt’s is good too.

Sidenote: That is apropos of nothing goal wise. He just wanted to torture Olag.

Maggie gets the final blessing with a quiet, heartfelt speech Brennan doesn’t even make her roll for. The statue tries to get her to put in a good word w/ her dad for it and steps all over the moment.

Ify, about to pull out shenanigans part two, electric boogaloo: I never got a chance to attack on my turn.

He attacks himself and warps back up!

Amy: Is that how you play a rogue????

Why sneak attack damage? Can you sneak attack yourself?

Oswald dies and Leiland comes back! Hexing Oswald really panned out for him

“It’s all spiders from here!” I wanna start saying that.

Efink cancels out a nat 20 on Sohkbar!

Lilith telling her kids to go find safety is a small thing but sweet.

“You know you live near Goblin Island and you always say you’re gonna visit.”

Markus swashbuckles over to the bloodkeep before he falls. Leiland is ready to jump his bones.

Nat 20 from Leiland! Is that his first one?

AND THEN HE ROLLS TWO NAT ONES!

Classic Leiland.

I love that Leiland is pro J'er'em'ih now.

John Feathers comes back for the epilogue. Rehka is more excited than anyone.

Lilith is voted queen regent of Gorgar! Go girl! And Jessa opens her fashion firm while Jason sets out to the forest. Good for them.

And little Leiland asks big Leiland to get him the head of Galfast Hamhead! Full circle, I love it.

OK so Brennan said this and he was right. Leiland and Maggie have such a wild ass arc. She goes being “that whore” in ep 1 (idr what he actually called her but that’s the vibe he gave off) to “my queen” in episode 6. And like, man. Imagine planning a game where the goal is to lead the players into a PvP free for all and, instead, the only two characters with a legit grievance mend fences so much that one names their child after the other and that one swears fealty to that mom and her child. Imagine failing so hard at your original goal. Wow.

Sidenote: So Matt has been on D20 and Brennan has been on Naddpod. I think this means Brennan or Murph gets to be on Critical Role now. I’m a lawyer and I’m pretty sure that’s how the law works.
