Grinding whole spices is WORTH the cost and effort

Just wanted to remind folks that if flavor was color, pre-ground spices are pastels, and freshly-ground spices are vibrant fully-saturated jewel tones with an iridescent rainbow sheen.

I am not shilling, I will not link you to a brand or product.

But please, please put it on your future to-do list to acquire a ultra gritty (not smooth ceramic or glazed) spice grinder. Lava rock if you can. The mexican Molcajete works wonderfully. An electric grinder if you must.

Search for a local asian or latin supermarket for cheap whole spices in bulk. Per-Pound, whole spices in a baggie are almost always cheaper than pre-ground bottles.

I am begging you, knees on the ground and tears in my eyes, to please, just once, go buy a tiny amount of good-quality cinnamon bark.

It should be a lovely medium-brown color with a soft orange tint, not nearly black with age. It should look a little soft and crumbly around the cut edges. Look for the flat pieces, which haven't curled into rolls from dryness.

Break a little piece off. Less than the size of your thumbnail. Crush or grind it however you can. Smash it with a hammer, make dust with sandpaper, however you want.

And stick it in your mouth.

A tiny amount of freshly ground cinnamon bark is heady, fruity, sweet, floral, and has a warm spice that breathes down your throat. You can chew on bits of the bark like candy, it's so sweet and good.

Pre-ground cinnamon tastes like bitter dust and betrayal by comparison.

The really old, dry as dust cinnamon sticks that look so dark brown they're nearly black... you can grind those up too, it'll improve the flavor, but it's about three steps behind the fresh stuff. Kingdoms fought wars over fresh cinnamon. Kings traded war prisoners for pounds of cinnamon, and I get it. I understand.

If you can afford it, if you want an earth-shaking treat, please consider: Whole Nutmegs, Good Cinnamon, Whole Cloves, and Whole Peppercorns.

-GOD THESE COLORS TOOK FOREVER the og colors are SUPER desaturated and also more on the pink side of purple but I prefer to use saturated colors and wanted to go more towards the blue side of purple (than the colors are closer to complimentary colors between mysterion and kenny)

There used to be a huge fashion and sneaker community on Tumblr years ago. The one shoe that reminds me the most of that era is the Roshe Run. This shoe is iconic.

Before I got into sneakers to an obsessive level I used to think every Nike/Jordan was too expensive. I was a dude who bought cheap sneakers, Vans, Adidas shell heads on discount, Asics, etc.

When the Roshe came out I just remember the internet hype it had at the time and thinking that it was a super expensive shoe. I didn't really get the idea of fashion people, hypebeast, or sneaker heads caring about a cheap sneaker. Plus again, my idea of Nike was expensive shoes for people who really cared enough about sneakers to put down a lot of money. It was really the hype and the fact that for awhile you couldn't get your hands on a pair of these shoes since they were selling so well and were a hit with fashion people and sneaker enthusiasts. Turns out the shoe was inexpensive and a general released shoe.

I don't know what drew me to the Roshe, was it the hype? was it the super simplicity and sleekness of it? All I knew is that I wanted a pair.

I remember wanting the ones with the all black upper and white sole, or the OG Iguana color way (pictured) but I wasn't able to find any of the basic colorways at the time (early 2013).

This exact kind and type was the first pair copped. I loved these things even though just wanted the basic OG model with the mesh upper. But these ones were beautiful to me too.

It wasn't until year later in 2014 that I copped my second pair and it was the OG model but in this Gamma Green colorway because I wanted to start adding brighter colors to my style.

Eventually the Roshe lost popularity. Sneaker heads, fashion snobs, and hypebeast who once coveted the shoes for being cheap and minimalist yet stylish moved away from the shoe in a hipstery fashion. By 2014 the Roshe was everywhere, it saturated the market, everyone seemed to have a pair. It wasn't cool anymore. Adidas was looking for a Roshe like hit and after going through a few Roshe clones (SL Loop, Tubular Runner, Solar Boost), but it wasn't until the original Ultra Boost and also the NMD did Adidas have something to rival the Roshe in the style zeitgeist. Even though the Ultra Boost and NMD came in at much higher prices than the Roshe, booth shoes caught the eye of fashion conscious folks and sneaker heads. The Ultra Boost became iconic and pushed Adidas to an era of dominance where they were actually beating Nike for a few years financially. They finally had their simple minimalist sneaker, made better by Boost cushioning "technology" that was way more comfortable than the unnamed "foam" of the Roshe.

By 2015 think it was safe to say the Roshe was done with its run. Nike was doing everything to squeeze whatever mileage out of the shoe. Saturating the market with colorways, different materials allowing people to customize their own on the website, launching ugly sequel models that just looked bad. Eventually Adidas would come to do the same to the Ultraboost and the NMD, flooding the market and milking the sneakers into exhaustion until no one care anymore. Also "maximalism" came back into play by 2017 with a brief chunky shoe trend that toon inspo from the 90s, normcore fashion, and young people ironically wearing "dad shoes" like Nike Monarchs, New Balances, and girls who were were those huge platform Fila things.

But the Roshe sparked a revolution in sneaker design for a while, and I don't think we've seen anything like it since. Even though performance minimalist sneakers were a thing before the Roshe, the Roshe brought that to the casual sneaker market and had Nike's rivals scrambling for an answer. It was a puzzle piece in sparking the whole "sports casual trend" and had sneaker companies known more for their sports performance sneakers where people reappropriate those into everyday casual wear. The early 2010s rise of the focus on the purely "lifestyle sneaker" was sparked by the Roshe. You started seeing unabashed knock offs of a sneaker that wasn't very expensive from the jump.

But I can't talk the Roshe without talking the Yeezy 350 and 350v2. I remember when the first pictures of the Yeezy 350 dropped, a lot of people did not know how to take it, and it didn't look like much. A lot of us looked at it and immediately saw a Roshe knock off, and no one could be called delusional for making that comparison. Eventually we get to the 350v2 that has become more well known and widely worn than the original 350, and the 350v2 is an icon. Once the Ultraboost and NMD hype died out, Yeezy was the only thing really moving at Adidas and that was mostly on the 350v2 which with no argument is for sure the most popular Yeezy model released.

But I'm put one in the Air for the Roshe, and I wonder if love for this sneaker will ever come back around one day. Will we see a generation if kids nostalgic for the Roshe? Will Nike ever actually retro it? Who knows, but all I know is I loved, and still love this iconic lowkey masterpiece of a sneaker.

Boob Tape Mistakes and How to Fix Them

You got the boob tape and the smokin’ outfit. Now, you just cross your fingers and hope it all works out. Okay, now, wait—you can totally make sure your boob tape does exactly what you want it to do for you. Even if you tried it before with less-than-stellar results, you can learn from those little mishaps and move forward with the perfect adhesive bra application. The following situations are common boob tape mishaps, but they never have to happen again.

It Didn’t Stick Oops! That’s a big deal. When your boob tape doesn’t stick, it basically defeats the purpose of an adhesive bra. Make sure you choose a high-quality tape bra with medical-grade adhesive. Before applying your bra, your skin should be completely clean—no oil, lotion, or moisture for at least 30 minutes before the bra goes on. After smoothing the bra over your skin (with the nipple cover in place), you need to rub it into your skin for at least a minute until it feels warm. Then, let it set for about 30 minutes before getting dressed so another material doesn’t mess with the process. There Are Lots of Wrinkles Yikes—nobody wants to see big wrinkles in their boob tape. Unfortunately, it’s quite the challenge to get things perfectly smooth, so the trick is to find boob tape with a flexible, breathable material that moves with your body. It will look more natural. When you apply the bra, don’t slap it down too quickly. You need to be slow and smooth as you go so it adheres to your skin. Werewolf Worldbuilding Sheet

Instead of a werewolf fact this week, have something I’ve been working on for a little while now. I was sent an ask about a good werewolf worldbuilding sheet. Me being me, willing to settle for no one else’s werewolf things, I thought - hey, why not make my own? I love worldbuilding werewolves and I’ve tried to make sure to think of literally everything to do with mine, so I thought I’d put together a relatively simple werewolf worldbuilding sheet! (and maybe a vampire one in the future!)

I will first extrapolate on each section of the sheet and provide some thoughts/examples (and relevant werewolf facts to turn to for ideas!)...

What is lycanthropy and where did it come from? This is always something to consider. Note, of course, that where it came from may be a mystery, and that’s fine too. You don’t have to always do the “it came from a demon or a witch” thing like literally everyone else in the universe. This can depend, of course, on what exactly your werewolves are/how they work, but it’s always useful to know the answer as to whether or not there’s any hope of someone being totally human again. Please note of course that my werewolf facts are here to give you ideas, not be instructions. Werewolves of your creation are of your creation, and thus you should create them the way you want and like them! I don’t want to dictate to anyone the way werewolves “should” be, although I absolutely have my personal preferences. The werewolf facts are meant to give you ideas and, hopefully, be a good jumping off point.

Folklore isn’t always the coolest portrayal of werewolves - it’s just better, IMO, to use folklore as a basis or at least as an idea basin instead of ignoring it entirely. The folklore for werewolves is awesome, just like all folklore. But pop culture has given us some cool things, too.

Okay, so the top photo is from the ultra wide angle lens on my smartphone.

The bottom photo was taken with my DSLR.

I didn't have a lens wide enough so I did a 4 shot panorama and merged the photos in Lightroom.

There are things I like about both photos. The colors look great on both. Though the distortion from the smartphone sticks out like a sore thumb when compared to something with more accurate perspective.

The tonal range of the DSLR is better. Smoother transitions between colors. Colors have saturation but they don't punch you in the face quite as much.

And I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge the difference in detail.

If you look at the full resolution photos at 100%, the DSLR pano has 30 million more pixels than the smartphone image. Beyond that, it has a sensor that is several times larger.

These 100% crops show just how much of a difference there is.

However, most people view things on their phone and social media platforms usually downsize images to 6 megapixels or less. My 45 megapixel pano is not going to get any pixel peeping love accept from those who clicked the full res links.

So, yes, the DSLR is better... but I am still really impressed with the images I get out of my smartphone.

Shuichi: 8/10 Solid, the best one of the protags. Though I wish the jacket was black. Other than that, I love it. Also I...kinda would’ve loved for him to have his hat back. Just saying...

Kaito: 4/10 Basically the design on the inside of his jacket. This one I would’ve loved if it was a bit brighter. It looks kind of lame and sad the way it is now.

Ryoma: 9/10 MY BABY BOYYYY HE LOOKS SO GOOD!!! I have two complaints though. One, why the hell are there stripes on his jacket sleeves? That’s an odd design choice. And number two, why DOESN’T HE HAVE AN INNERTUBE??? It’s a bit of an hc of mine that he doesn’t know how to swim (especially since his canon dislike is a type of shark and since sharks live in water, he wouldn’t want to go near it). But ALSO it’s a callback to his death because he TECHNICALLY DROWN!!! Just saying...it would’ve been pretty cool if they just...used their brains a little bit...

i do not like wfa with ham, i do not like it, sam i am.

I have a lot of problems with Wayne Family Adventures. The idea for it is solid enough, but the execution is. bad. I've put my thoughts below the cut because this got long, so I hope you don't mind me going in depth on my feelings.

Duke Thomas as a POV character - I'm plagerizing heavily from my convo with @phamtai about this. Def check them out for more info and better insights than mine into the character. Duke is extremely well established in canon despite only having been around for a decade or so. Remarkably, it's taken until WFA to butcher his character. Duke in this series is too polite. He's too clueless. He's been presented as the Relatable Kid archetype that he doesn't fit. In canon, Duke has never not been self-assured. He's a relatable character, yes, but not because he doesn't know what's going on. He has experience as a hero long before the batfam became involved. And since then, he's bonded with them. WFA doesn't show his connection with Cass, his dynamic with Bruce or Jason, and completely ignores his conflicts with the family. In a supposedly family-focused product, those are damn near cardinal sins. He may as well be a totally new character. Duke has been watered down so much for the sake of this series. WFA could be a vessel to explore so many things about him that we don't see a lot of on the regular page. We could see a dive into the parallels between him and Bruce, the full psychological impact of losing his parents, epecially in contrast to Jason, how his world view and morals differ from Batman's, the daily consequences of his powers, or the fallout of his mourning independently for the friends he's lost. But those would be interesting angles WFA doesn't seem eager to explore. If you can't imagine a version Duke punching a cop just because they're a fucking cop, you're doing it wrong. Another issue is, unfortunately, Duke's role as the only Black batman member. I shouldn't need to explain why it's problematic to be showing his as constantly less knowledgeable and presumably skilled as the other bats. (No, it doesn't matter that Dick and Damian are drawn with dark skin. Dick has been written as a white man for nearly his entire existence. The person who retconned that is notoriously racist and has spent years defending her inclusion of sexual assault in her writing. I have no issue with Dick being Romani, but just changing the color of his skin is not the way to do it.) DC has recently had a push towards inclusion, on the page an behind the scenes. This is good, of course. Though if they really are committed to representation and inclusion, it needs to be an effort seen across the board. Faux pas like this paint a pretty obvious picture.

The Webtoon format is shit - Webtoon is a great platform for indie writers and artists. It's not my style of content, but I get the appeal. IMO, it's ridiculous to accept a professional comic publisher shitting out 12 page fluff pieces. Yes, the weekly comic format has been phased out for a reason. Yes, halving the workload is a possible way around that restriction. But there just isn't a good enough reason to do it. It's a pretty obvious ploy to seem "hip" and "get in with kids these days." It's lazy and frankly kind of embarrassing. For anyone who doesn't know, a standard comic book is usually 24-28 pages. This isn't an arbitrary number, it's part of the format for the art form. That length allows for necessary plot developments in a serial story line while also giving the characters, themes, and artwork time to breathe. Furthermore, it's what most comic readers have come to expect over the decades. Halving that wouldn't necessarily be a problem, there are plenty of examples of well made shorts out there, but coupling that WFA's love affair with single panels and splash pages is a major issue. Say you make a 12 page comic with 4-6 panels per page. You have 48-72 panels to work with. You can sit a compelling story into that, with or without heavy dialogue. But bring that down to 12-24 panels, and you have one of two options: either 1) ultra-compress your narrative or 2) reduce the plot to compensate. Ignoring the formatting choices, WFA is a convenient reason for DC to keep the worst of the status quo in the bat titles. There's no need to acknowledge criticism of Bruce's treatment of his family when they can simply point and say "Jason's throat hasn't been sliced open here! And look, Damian hasn't been left with the crushing guilt of his grandfather's death! We even let Tim exist as his own character!" WFA doesn't change anything, it shows that DC is aware of its problems but would rather outsource them than put in the work to fix it. There's a special kind of rejected feeling that comes with being told "I hear you, I just don't care.

Fandom isn't bad, but - Everyone is familiar with the incorrect quotes format by now. Sometimes they're funny, most of the time they tend to over-saturate. WFA is like if a incorrect batfam quotes blog was a comic. It's a steady supply of one-liners and references, sure, but it lacks any real substance. If that's what you like, I can't fault you for it, but it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea. The way the batfandom has piled onto the "this is the best thing ever" bandwagon is concerning to me. There has been good batfam content in canon, you just need to know where to look for it. The lack of critical analysis of the project and dismissal of critiques is always an alarming pattern, but the way WFA has come to be the odd face of the fandom is just bizarre. It's everywhere, as you know if you've ever tried avoiding it. Thinking about WFA being the default interpretation of these characters makes me nervous. They lack the depth their canon counterparts. I don't care if you enjoy WFA, I do understand the appeal of it, but for the love of the gods, take it down from it's pedestal.

WFA is... fine. It's yet to commit any sins too egregious, but, like all DC properties, it's a ticking timebomb. I won't be surprised when it goes off, and I can't say I'll be sad to see it go. Ao3 has better content, anyway
