The reason the phenomenon that is Goncharov is so interesting to me is in part the fact that it’s basically an Ultra Advanced version of things like The Hot Springs in the Witcher fandom
There are these universally agreed upon aspects of this thing that everyone knows about and yet doesn’t really exist

AU where Grian is assigned Scar's guardian angel after he commits his most wonderfully destructive prank yet. Guardian angel duty doesn't really seem like much of a punishment at all seeing as it puts Grian comfortably out of the Watcher's usual reach. Not to mention it gives him a job practically made to be blown off! If anything it sounds like a reward.
Then comes the twist: the Watchers are of course not stupid. They know that in usual circumstances this assignment would be giving Grian even more freedom to be a menace on people less capable of controlling him. They know Grian knows this, and that he is thinking them stupid.
It's only after careful deliberation they decide to give him a warning. Grian and his charge's pain will be linked: any pain they incur will become his own, and vice versa. A clever but simple change. The Watchers smile as they tell him this, as if they have successfully ruined all those plans that Grian had already started to form. Grian is undeterred.
They do not tell him they smile because they picked the man with the highest pain tolerance and frequency of injury that they could find. They smile because Grian will have no choice but to be responsible for once, if for nothing else than to put an end to his own suffering.
Right?

Hmm, that makes sense. I thought MXTX was essentially saying that it is hard to determine what's right or wrong, but empathy is the way to do so. I've seen arguments that JGY did good because of the watchtower, but at the same time he chose terrible decisions. If we're counting deaths, everyone in MXTX would be guilty of that. Am I wrong in viewing WWX and LWJ as moral ideals in this story?
No you are not wrong, that’s exactly what mxtx calls them, how they are meant to be viewed in the story, and why they get the ending they get while everyone else is left picking up pieces of their shattered world views or dead.
Mxtx is very much so not saying that it’s hard to determine what’s right from wrong. Gunning for genocide is never a right choice, and even the characters know it! The way the cultivation world at large is ashamed in front of their own children when it is revealed that they lied about burning the bodies on the Burial Mounds and actually threw the remains of the Wen remnants into the blood pool, desecrating them, and the way they had to lie on Wei Wuxian to begin with in order to drum up support against him while people stood with him—in both the past and present—anyways? These are clear moments where everyone from the older generations outside of wangxian (and later, Mianmian) are shown to be unambiguously wrong despite how much time and effort they spent trying to paint themselves as righteous. Empathy does go a long way, but towards combatting oppression and mob mentality, not supporting genociders and serial killers hiding behind class status to do whatever they want. Mdzs is a story warning about mob mentality and smear campaigns, not “well, we can never know what’s really moral so let’s just do whatever the powerful people say!”
As for Jin Guangyao’s infamous watch towers, when are those ever brought up in the novel to suggest that they did anything good for anyone? There’re literally referenced to say how suspicious it is that of all the watchtowers put up, there was a giant blind spot exactly where the Jin hid their dirty laundry who then went on to massacre an entire city! If there’s one thing woobified villain stans will do is act like a villain clearly lying about their intentions and motivations is being 100% honest and forthcoming about their actions 🙄

Well clearly I am confused.
#My art style keeps changing and every time I do something new#I yearn for the days of old#where i want to draw what i used to draw like but also loathe the anatomical inconsistencies#i think 2020 may have had my best works which sucks because i'm on the decline#text post#lana please shut up#i also want to ask why there are mmx fans that keepndrawing charactera with#odd skin tones that are very drastically different from canon#it confuses me greatly#is it from an au or some sort of fic that isnpopular on here#or a fanon type thing because it seems to be consistent between select artists#i think skin color alteration is very strange on canon colors#i just end up collecting characters with my skin color like miruko or grey instead of altering things#its odd but fine i think i just dont understand the motivation behind it#actually it's kinda reverse of what artists do to faputa on pixiv#it makes me feral when people make faputa reg's skin color and then go “it's the lighting”#as if to say if you put me under a white light then i too shall be white in skin tone#or god forbid they have someone say indoors and become an entirely different race#maybe both ways makes me mad idk#i just hope it isnt the same thing that happened with dave strider back in homestuck days#it might be and i'm in denial#i will probably stick to canon skin colors for my fanart#unless the skin tone varies in the ref images then i'll bullshit it#adding tags is like whispering#but most of my characters (human looking) have whacky skin tones#by which i mean theyre usually everything but pale#but at the same time#the only pale character i can think of is the stark white one that is based on 0²#and i guess my tiger character but he has vitiligo since he was made Back Then when it was a fad#everyone else is fucking green or orange or somethign

which is also always why i am very fond of cosplayers i DESPERATELY wanted to be a proper one when i was little and it just so happened that's how i figured out the concept of gender euphoria whilst dressed up as a ... harry potter character ... -_- it's also in the same way i desperately wanted to be an artist bc those were the two cool things you could be in 2013 and i guess this is the path i chose instead but there is an alternate universe out there where i cosplay i think ... i'd probably be doing renfaire stuff as i got older i think that's cool ... i genuinely think about this a lot

having a mild freakout over forgetting a major canon event that actually influences literally everything about the character whose POV I am not only writing in but whose character arc is literally the driving factor of this entire goddamn fic
#like. the thing that is DRIVING ME NUTS is that I have been sitting here#trying for WEEKS to figure out an appropriate backstory event to drive the specific character development that I need for this fic#and it's right there! in canon! this ENTIRE TIME!#and not only did I forget about it I didn't even bother to skim the wiki!#me! who prides themself on writing things in-character and as true-to-canon for characters as possible!#and it isn't. actually. a huge issue. there is plenty of space in the narrative because like I said#I've been trying to come up with this kind of driving event for a while now and this just happens to slot in perfectly#because like... the themes of the character are all the same and the themes of the FIC are playing off the ones in canon and fanon#and since it's all connected it connects in the fic too#which means I don't need to do a bunch of edits to like... scene order and content I just need to slightly shift what they're about#and specifically what the main is thinking ABOUT while they're happening#which isn't really all that hard as editing goes#HOWEVER#I am both agonizing over the amount of editing I am going to need to do to the sections that drive character motivation#AND the sections wherein that character motivation and backstory drives character ACTION and therefore the plot#(this fic is like thirty thousand words already this is not a small task)#and I am also fully tearing my hair out over being enough of a dumbass to NOT EVEN THINK TO CHECK THE WIKI#WHEN I WAS ALSO AGONIZING OVER NOT BEING ABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE RIGHT KIND OF BACKSTORY#BUT IT WAS THERE THE WHOLE TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME :(#anyways yeah I'm kind of an idiot and I've just made a whole bunch more work for myself because I was too confident in my own skill to just#check the fuckin' wiki and actually reread canon

''Same person different font'' thing regarding Mary and Dean's characters irk me so much lmao...
RIGHT omg like. On one hand we have a person who is authentically compassionate, is capable of acting outside of her own self-interest more often than not, doesn’t take out her emotions on the people around her, and owns her mistakes and shortcomings. On the other hand we have a person who is none of those things, and is furthermore a violent control freak who categorically abuses those closest to him. These are fundamental differences in the way these two characters interact with the world and others, which is far more significant in a comparison than any surface-level similarities. Liking cars and jerky does not a “same person different fonts” make.
Like lol I mean… I won’t be wholly disingenuous, I’m not going to pretend Mary and Dean have no commonalities whatsoever, because they do. In my take I’d say they both have something of a lying habit that they view not as necessarily harmful but as protecting others, as well as a tendency toward self-destructive behaviour and definitely some kind of saviour complex(?). But those similarities are still not nearly enough, in my opinion, to overshadow the fact that these two characters are otherwise, as outlined above, pretty much morally and socially disparate people. Which is to say, very much not the “literal same”.
It also just feels so reductive and honestly lazy to just write Mary off as just Dean: the Prequel or whatever and leave it at that. People do much the same with Claire (Dean 2: Simba’s Pride) and even with Max Banes (Dean the 3rd), and honestly it’s kind of. Dismal. That these characters can’t just stand on their own for a significant portion of the fandom and have to be reduced to “Dean mirrors” to warrant any thought, and are then only really thought about through that lens. Like I’m sorry that is NOT the deep character analysis you think it is 😭

the new ep really reminded me of my disappointment of how completely chill hawks is with endeavour abusing his family. him discovering his personal hero was abusive in the exact same way his father was should be gut wrenching, a betrayal but he doesn’t react to it in anyway other than “i’m sure things are different now”. if they made him destroyed and angry and carried that through the villain hunt arc, it would just bolster the tension and support the distrust society has for heroes and the need to put that aside anyway in the face of a greater enemy
#apart from his reaction with nagent it feels like we havnt seen hawks’ actual personality#or him having any real emotional reaction to anything#oh yeah my mum betrayed me to villains ans it nearly got me killed but bc the government entity that bought me at 7 yrs old told me#to forget my old life it doesnt bother me#yeah the guy ive looked up to my entire life that was literally the only bright point in my incredibly abusive childhood turned out to also#be extremely abusive towards his family up to LAST YEAR but i think hes different now so it doesnt bother me#i get that having a subplot of him being pissed at endeavour and having to be near him anyway couldve made the arc a but messy#especially with how badly paced it is#but imagine if it was actually spread out nicely#hawks has the basis of an interesting character but so much of him is fanon interpretation#his attitude with the commission is so lacklustre#hes totally fine with everything theyve done to him and doesnt see anything wrong with it or them#it takes a nuanced story of a minor groomed by the government to be a killer and turns him into a bootlicker#even his stuff with twice which shouldve knocked him on his ass doesnt hit bc he just brushes passed his realisation#the entire endeavour redemption arc annoys me bc he gets it way too easily and doesnt face consequences#he still has hawks looking at him like the sun shines out his ass#he foisters his responsibility to take down dabi the monster he created onto his youngest child bc its too hard for him#but thats besides the point#hawks has so much potential but like pretty much everyone its just not explored enough#go beyond plus ultra#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#bnha#hawks#endeavour#enji todoroki

Maybe it's just because of where I live, but the whole "Satine didn't like that her people were a bunch of warmongering imperialist assholes and told them to knock it off and implemented gun control and made the Jedi Torture Boxes illegal so that her people could rebuild and move on from their violent history of civil wars that reduced their planet into a nearly uninhabitable wasteland in favor of focusing on more productive things like art and education and this is literally cultural genocide and she's erasing history and she should've been a villain blah blah blah" take has always been so weird to me. Like I have absolutely seen people say things like that in real life all the time and about 90% of them have confederate flags on the back of their pickup trucks so. Yeah.
#''but the new mandos are mostly white in tcw!'' despite what many claim mandos were always mostly white even before tcw#i know people wanna act like they're The Single Most Diverse Culture In The Entire Galaxy but that was always largely an informed attribute#i mean star wars in general wasn't as diverse before the disney era that's why rebels and tcw season 7 have more non-white mandalorians#also the whole idea that she only took over cause of republic backing and made her people ''assimilate'' to republic culture#which first of all the republic doesn't have one culture it's made up thousands of planets with different cultures#contrary to popular belief the republic isn't really Space America it's more Space United Nations#and second of all her ENTIRE INTRODUCTORY ARC is about her being against republic overreach#and not wanting them to intervene in internal mandalorian affairs#but yeah clearly she's a puppet for the republic that's definitely consistent with what we actually see onscreen#and don't bother with the ''the republic glassed mandalore'' thing#that's legends and is never mentioned anywhere in tcw at all#as far as lucas and disney canon are concerned it's a wasteland because of centuries of civil wars#which sabine confirms in rebels#the whole erasing culture thing doesn't hold much weight either#when you consider satine is one of only two characters to actually speak mando'a onscreen (the other being sabine)#which. again. she did In Her Introductory Episode#and you can see mando'a writing all around new mandalore#in sharp contrast to the fanon idea that she suppressed the language or whatever#and like there's TONS of uniquely mandalorian artwork and architecture and stuff like that#those things are culture too she just focuses on the parts of the culture that aren't about killing people you don't like#also when pre vizsla starts his whole smear campaign against her and gains the favor of the people#she stands down because the people are on his side now#which shows she believes in the will of the people and thus it's safe to assume that the majority supported her favor when she took over#anyway i'm gonna go watch avatar and day zuko committed cultural genocide#cause imperialism is fire nation culture and he told them to knock it off#shut up tristan

People who have supposedly read red robin 2009 but still insist that tim is like one day away from becoming a murderer and that actually hes not bothered by people he might have killed, please explain
#I wasnt gonna subtweet on tumblr but actually#U can point at those blown up bases as much as u want but listen if the comic wanted that to be an instance of tim killing people#It would havw been brought up. Considering that the no kill rule is u know. Like the bats entire thing#Yeah theres no way that none of those people wouldn't have died but first this is comics sometimes shit doesnt add up and second#If tim was aware of people having died bc of thta he wouldn't have been so chill about it#And if he wasnt aware but it happened the comic would have brought it up bc again. Thats their entire thing and it would have made#For a great story! I would like to see this!#But the conclusion isnt ohh tim kills people and is actually down to murder. He didnt kill his dads killer and he could have#Thats like the best confirmation that he Doesnt kill people as u can get#And in robin 93 he accidentally (? Its weird) kills that one guy and has an entire breakdown about it#Hes not cool about it!!!#Anyway. Sorry. I know these are stupid jokes but it is a pet peeve of mine re this character#txt#ITS JUST THAT TIM IS LIKE THE MOST BORING NEUTRAL GOOD GUY U COULD GET#He is at his lowest in red robin and he still agonizes over every death that happens around him like!!#How do u get to this fanon Nearly A Villain tim#Yeah hes met different tims who had become evil that does not make him evil. Thats the entire point of meeting other version of him#He was ready to shoot himself if it would stop him from becoming the batman who kills people what are u talking about

So I suddenly felt inspired to draw some more Ingo and Emmet stuff. But not the typical somewhat story driven angst comics I did previously. More like.. a “day-in-the-life-of” type deal. Like my Mario and Luigi content. I also wanted to draw some more expressions with the boys that weren’t twisted faces of tears and agony-
I also wanted to try to stay away from the hard angst this time. And just draw something that is overall pleasant. As I was sketching some ideas I realized that I never drew Elesa! Her fanon friendship with the twins seemed really fun to draw so I threw her in there too XD
I know nothing of Elesa’s canon personality so I just made it up entirely-- <XD I pictured her being the mom friend who very dearly loves her two very tall sons.
As for the last bit. Uhg, well I tried XD I can never seem to fully separate myself from angsty stuff. But at least it was light and it had a funny twist at the end! :DD

this but with a neglected! reader who had tried to take a shot at fighting and discovering their potential. they're especially good with guns, the very weapon batman has sworn neven to use.
you were born to be a heartless killing machine— if not for your mother shielding you away from the sins she had bared, you would've been more than just a bounty or a target costing millions.
you would've been the topmost hired hitman at the age of ten, but you had only found out about your skill at that age.
simply being adopted into the family had delayed your development; turning you into a human, who yearned for love and attention yet never having it reciprocated. you had brainwashed yourself into thinking that if you could reach the same level as them then maybe, just maybe, you could stand by your family's side.
your father, batman, should've noticed the signs sooner.
that in the manor, it houses a cold blooded beast, too far gone into the world of lusting.
lusting for blood, lusting for condemnation, lusting to satiate their hunger.
the way your eyes lit up whenever you successfully hit a target from miles away, or the way your tantrums and fights with damian leads you to ripping apart practice dummies with murderous intent— they were detectives for god's sake! how could they have merely ignored the heavy thumps that cloak the night?
alfred had tried to address the sudden shift in your behavior. he had tried to point out your calculated stares during family meals, the bandages that began to litter your body, your bedroom doors now bolted; how every night the smell of blood seems thicker and more concentrated in the manor.
you didn't just grow up. hell no, you were an entirely different being.
instead of you being led to the light, you were further drawn to the darkness; the picture perfect scenario of what bruce should've been had he ever not picked himself up and fixed his ways.
but you weren't bruce, fucking wayne. no, you were (last name)'s child, and you would never forgive him for even trying to wipe out your own identity.
the neglect that had built up and the anger that was left of you— you turned it into determination; motivation for you to stealthily sneak through the batcave and steal his devices, transform it into weapons made for just for you.
yet you do not use bullets for justice nor reason just like jason, no. but you had died just like him, lost your hope for the very man who you once thought of your father.
it is all a means for you to quench your thirst.
you couldn't wait to see their faces.
maybe then they'll bond with you through fists and bruises, through gunshots and bullets.
and the best part of it all?
you don't need to ask for anymore for their attention.
not when you have all the other criminals willing to give the world in the palm of your hands.
Tumblr media
a/n: do you know of fanon! jason who was said to be an aggressive kid? in this au, it's basically you; drowning in contempt lmao. anywaysz, this is just a concept that i randomly thought about, it's basically a "what-if" you had found out the truth sooner about your mother other than the rumors? (lore still redacted lmao) bec if you did, then the end result is this au hehe. again, in the main series there's a lot of false narratives on your part, i love utilizing the faulty narrator trope.
