Thoughts on The Odyssey (1997)

(YouTube, Amazon Prime)

- Love that it starts with the birth of Telemachus, and how they made it the same day Odysseus gets called to Troy by Agamemnon and Menelaos.

- Enjoyed the brief snippets of the Trojan War with Achilles dragging Hektor’s body all over the outskirts of Troy, as well as the infamous Trojan Horse gift and the sacking of the city.

- The crew on Ody’s boat are absolutely funny. I love fat and balding Polites as well as the flute guy. Eurylochus and Perimedes were amazing too, and not nearly as antagonistic except for when Perimedes opened the bag.

- As soon as I heard sheep noises on the first island they landed in, I said “oh no” out loud. Sure enough, it’s the Cyclops cave. No club; he just tears up some crew members and eats them.

- Circe is so beautiful, they made a great choice with the actress there. Definitely has a similar vibe to her EPIC counterpart. Interesting that her island was way up a steep mountain so the crew really needed a lot of effort to get up there. Genuinely enjoyed the part of the animals acting off as a hint that they’re former humans. Also, they made the choice to combine Circe with the lotions island, having her offer them the flowers. Really genius choice because both islands in the book have the warped time dilation effect so it’s a good idea to combine them if given a time constraint in the adaptation.

- The Underworld was a fiery place and I love the part where he meets flute guy again who leads him to Tiresias. On the way out, he sees his mother (who “got in the water” earlier) and that scene broke my heart so much.

- The interspersed Telemachus scenes were fun. Child!Telemachus was a menacing gremlin running around the palace, and Teen!Telemachus has so much angst in him like he was emo before emo was even invented.

- No sirens, they go straight to Scylla and Charybdis. Scylla was hidden in the caves with no woman as lure, just snakes with mouths scooping up crew members and one goat. Some dialog here will be familiar to EPIC fans. Same can be said with Charybdis who is a many-toothed worm monster like in EPIC.

- The remaining crew after Scylla all die in Charybdis, so no mutiny and no cow incident. Odysseus clings onto a single log until he reaches Calypso’s island.

- Calypso and her island are BEAUTIFUL. The vibes are just amazing and it’s like a sort of ice cold spring spa with some feasting going on inside. Calypso doesnt do anything too bad here except the occasional kiss, and later the refusal to let go of Odysseus even when Hermes requested it.

- Telemachus, now of age, goes on to the diplomatic mission to Sparta, but Menelaos is meaner and just tells him that his father is dead, though he compliments the prince’s similarities. I love the set design and costuming in this part.

- Poseidon being a face forming on waves is a really fun adaptation, really hammering home that he IS the water and being in the water when disliked by Poseidon is a really terrible idea.

- There is a brief visit by Odysseus to the Phaeicians after leaving Ogygia, and he actually doesnt doc himself when asked for his name this time, though King Alcinous already knew who he was because of his hint that his name was cursed that it cannot be spoken. The Phaeicians are the ones who give him a ship and crew to get him home, and that’s really sweet honestly.

- The discovery of the un weaving of the loom came at such an intense time because I genuinely thought Eurymachus was going to be successful at seducing Penelope but she really stood tall and said that she can’t (probably inspiring the Ody and Circe part of EPIC). The loom-burning that happens after was genuinely terrifying snd sad.

- Athena giving Odysseus a magical old man beggar disguise that only lifts when he later shoots through the axes (right before the slaughter) is such a genius idea rather than just having base Ody wearing rags. Eumaeus is the first one who recognizes him form how he behaves in the palace farm area. Telemachus runs into the two and learns that the beggar is Odysseus in disguise.

- The wrestling match between Telemachus and Antinous after the former got home from his diplomatic mission definitely inspired the events of “Little Wolf” and their dynamic. It almost turned into a knife fight if not for beggar!Odysseus stealing attention, and promptly getting hit by Antinous with a chair.

- EURYCLEIA RECOGNIZING ODYSSEUS gosh that part shakes me to my core. Athena likely intentionally left the scar from the boar there as a hint for those who know him well. So at that point it’s Tele and Eurycleia who knows.

- The slaughter was such a satisfying part, especially since in this version majority of the kills were done by Telemachus, with Odyssseus only taking out a few—notably taking out Eurymachus and Melantho with only one spear through both of them, a traitor-kebab if you will. Best part was during the beginning of the slaughter when Odysseus goes “Now is the right time, let out your anger” to Telemachus

- The part where Penelope and Odysseus lay by the olive tree bed again made me so emotional. They’re together again and they’re happy!!

- The practical and special effects are great for its time, and I definitely prefer it to the over-polished VFX green screen that the present day movies use. This movie just feels more authentic.

- Casting and costume design is also solid. I am especially obsessed with the costumes at Calypso’s island, and how it depicts that they’re removed from the rest of Greece so they ended up developing their own culture.

- Set design is amazing, I love how there is a contrast between the almost dilapidated and dirty palace of Ithaca compared to the other Greek kingdoms we encounter throughout the movie, showing the hardship they were going through with the absence of rod a kung and the presence of a flock of suitors that insist on staying there.

Overall a solid 5/5 stars, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys Greek mythology, specifically The Odyssey and EPIC: The Musical.

Summary: Joe shows up.

Your eyes jump open at the woman’s earpiercing scream. And when they open, Joe is standing over top of the two of you.

“What the fuck?!” he screams as he winds up his bat again. Melissa raises her arms in self-defense, but its futile when the metal bat still comes into contact with her body and she yelps out in pain again. She falls to the floor, and before you can get up, the bat is hitting you too. You refuse to show any signs of pain or weakness though.

“You divorce me for fucking around with the babysitter, only for me to find you fucking your lawyer the day our divorce is finalized?!” he slurs out. His bat comes down on her a few more times while you’re still hissing in pain, and you swear you can hear her ribs crack as he delivers the final blow to her body.

Melissa lays there, clutching at her ribs and gasping out for air. And then he’s swinging at you again.

In reality, the two of you should be able to fend him off. Being snuck up on and jolted out of your dreaming state though makes it much harder as you try to blink away the sleep in your eyes while also trying to defend yourself and hissing out in pain from the first strike.

“G-get JJ,” Melissa croaks out, not even bothering to fight the pain at this point as she cries freely.

Almost in an instant, your eyes and Joe’s go wide, and you both race for the bedrooms. You’re faster than him, of course you are. He’s drunk, and you are stone cold sober and running on adrenaline at the mention of the innocent little boy hopefully still sleeping peacefully (although you’re not sure how he could possibly still be sleeping with his mother’s loud cries). Speed doesn’t matter though. Even with you trying to wrestle the bat out of his hands as you enter the hall, he’s able to strike you- once in the side, and once in the knee. At the blow to the knee, you stumble and fall. 

He’s able to get ahead of you, and he violently whips the door to his son’s bedroom open. He snatches the little boy from his bed harshly enough that JJ wakes up with a small cry.

“Shut the fuck up,” the grown man seethes. “Shut the fuck up!”

He stumbles out into the hallway, where you’ve just managed to pick yourself up off the ground. At the sight of that sweet little boy that has wormed his way into your heart, you see red. You never understood those stories that you would hear about adrenaline taking over and being able to do things that shouldn’t be possible, but here you are. There’s a fire in your eyes as you wrestle JJ out of the arms of a man who is easily double your size and cradle him as closely to your chest as you possibly can. You’re able to stumble your way into the bathroom and lock the door before Joe can get to you again.

“Y/N,” JJ cries as he clings to you, absolutely terrified. “Is this a nightmare? Why can’t I wake up?!”

“It’s real life, honey,” you whisper as you lean against the door. “But I have you, and you’re going to be okay, and your father can’t-” There’s a force against the door, and it shakes you where you stand pressed up against the piece of wood. “He can’t get to us,” you say quickly. You glance at the window. You’re on the second floor, and if it were just you, you would fly through it and deal with the injuries later. But with JJ? You don’t know if you can do that. You don’t know which option is safer at this point- flying through a second story window with a four year old cradled to your chest, or facing the wrath of a drunk and belligerent man hellbent on getting his son back.

Before you can decide though, he comes crashing through the door. Apparently his adrenaline is flowing now too in the haste to get to his son. You fight with him tooth and nail to keep that little boy in your arms, but when Joe throws a mean right hook that collides with your jaw, your grip loosens just enough for the man to grab JJ. Unfortunately, the little boy still has his arms clasped tightly around your neck, and when Joe pries him off, you can see the way that his shoulder pops out of its socket. The blood curdling scream that the youngest Schemmenti lets out is forever embedded in your head. The man is able to throw another punch at you, successfully temporarily stopping you from fighting with all your might just enough to get a head start on you. And then, Joe is off.

With the absolute searing pain now very apparent in your leg, you do your best to run after him, but by the time you make your way out the front door, you see his car peeling away with that little boy inside.

Defeated, you hobble your way back into the apartment complex. You wonder how no one on your floor had woken at the commotion. When you get back to Melissa’s her door is wide open, and she’s still laying there on the floor clutching at where Joe had struck her. Despite the pain rippling through your body, you kneel down next to her.

“Please,” she whispers through tears. “Please tell me you got JJ.”

You shake your head. “Joe has him. But I’m going to call 9-1-1, I’m going to tell them he broke and entered, we need an ambulance for you, and that an amber alert needs to go out on JJ.”

“I- I’m going to kill him,” Melissa hisses as she tries to sit up.

You gently push her back down to the floor. “You need to stay down while I make calls.”

It doesn’t take long for you to rattle off the necessary information to the call center, and when you come back, Melissa is still lying there gripping at her side.

“They’re coming,” you whisper as you sit down next to her. “They already have cops combing the area for him. He’s not going to get away with this.”

“He might,” the redhead groans out. “The motherfucker knows his way around.”

“He isn’t getting away with it this time,” you promise her. “And when they catch him, he’s never coming back.”

What's ur favorite OBM audiodrama 😈

you have opened a CAN of worms because I LOVE the audio dramas (incl live at the house of lamentation! I count them as audio dramas cause they're pretty much live audio drama readings. but excluding the premium audio dramas you get when paying for VIP and the obey me asmrs. haven't managed to get around to those yet.)

Cooking's So Hard! - i think this is one i managed to rewatch the most and the plot still sticks in my mind. kyohei's voice for beel is a lot higher pitched here, and i think the dynamic between a slightly worried lucifer and a somewhat careless beelzebub is really funny here!! beel over indulging himself with the sauce, and lucifer saying "congratulations on figuring out the flavour" after hes finished just fucking kills me..

and the innocence behind his request that everyone has the "best meal ever" and the repetition of the basic ingredients… lucifer is tired!! he is growing grey hairs at this man!! i don't really like eating noises but honestly this drama was so comedic that i didn't really mind. yes i will taste test your taste test…. hajimimi….hajimimimi… hajimimimimi… is stuck in my head.

Asmodeus's New Hobby - my two fav characters are featured here, so i'm not sure what's not to like! the dynamics and asmo's vanity is sooo humorous here i just couldn't not laugh. "it's so pretty" ".. its too pretty.." "i think i'm in love." miura ayme you will LIVE FOREVER because i love this performance. this entire plot about robot legs and sumo sweat is so convoluted and funny. they're such opposites that asmo dwelling in such an otaku sort of interest in his own way is just hilarious.

Simeon's Tech Troubles - this audio drama is one i've come back to listen to time and time again. it starts out a little understanding and calming, but satan's anger quickly builds with simeon's naivety towards technology… it's so humorous here. hirata yu's performance here is absolutely lovely here - i've loved his voicework for a while but seeing him appear in this drama makes me feel a little lighter, if that makes sense. also some of the noises simeon makes here are…. questionable. but its fine.

the process of simply turning on the computer and the consecutive insults just adds to the layers of humor.. sumi shinya you will also live forever because i can picture satan's eyebrow twitching at simeon's attitude and fear at pressing a simple button. "there's nothing "whoa" about it". even though simeon acts like an overtired child at opening a computer( which i find quite weird now that i dwell more on it) i still feel like it was still shown in a more comedic and silly fashion rather than trying to infantilize his character. "satan, thats enough today" oh my god 😭..

Solomon Quiz - miura ayme's voice acting is such a treat here.. i love it, he's so hyperactive, and the little "heh.. heeeeh??" he does at solomon's answer is sooo humorous.

i have a feeling that koba wasn't actually able to make the recording for this, which is why he's present as a phone call, but i still feel the energy from just solomon and asmo interacting in themselves. i know this is seperate from the audio drama, but i really like the soundtrack in the background for this!

it's obvious asmo is a little bit.. daft: he doesn't know classical is a genre of music, he doesnt really know solomon "that" well, or doesn't care for him that much, but the passion and happiness he shows around him is still authentic. at first you can definitely tell that solomon finds the idea of doing a quiz about himself as "weird," but at the end kawata really embodies this happiness of being a quiz game host because he's so into this competition.

House Of Lamentation Lives

the confidence that asmo says "I have absolutely no idea!" is so humorous!! hhh its stuck in my head! "solomon question three solomon question three!!" rotates round my head like a baguette in a microwave because this entire audio drama is memorable…

Leviathan-Sensei's Otaku FM ep 5: A Living Landmine: now this episode i have TOO much to talk about. it already starts in media res and tension's already established at the beginning with sumi's spine-chilling delivery of "what did you say?". i love how the sound effects in the background just merge so well because it just paints this vivid picture within my mind and gets me so excited. and when the sound effects do cut off, its when a scared and somewhat awkward levi butts in trying his best to calm satan down, albeit it not working very well.

"we've got more trash lying around here than Lucifer and I have things in common." ouh!! harsh satan!!

sumi's performance and the chemistry both of the voice actors have creates this naturally flowing dialogue between the two of them and it just gets me again.. hyped the fuck up!! "KONO ORENO!! DOKUKANITERUTEI???" that line is STUCK INSIDE MY HEAD and i feel like after this sumi needs a nice cold glass of ice water because you then realize that sumi shinya has been screaming into his microphone for about 4 minutes.

"stuck-up, arrogant and scary looking is literally you though! hahaha-" oh leviathan… you poor sweet summer's child. and satan's "huh?" right after?? yeah i just know we're cooked but i'm laughing with them!! this is also a voice drama that includes mc somewhat, but at the same time it just includes mc really excellently within the drama because holy shit.. if that was me.. i'd burst out laughing like levi too…

"..uh oh" YEAH HE KNOWS WE'RE COOKED??? and the way satan responds so sadistically afterwards "hmm, how about you tell me more Leviathan". every syllable punctuated, the bgm rising to tense heights that nobody has ever seen before, i can FEEL the FLAMES of satan's anger through my cheap airbuds!! even the panic that fills leviathan as mc calls satan "sadistic and scary" when he's angry just like lucifer!! AND THEN THE LOUD "BAKA" AS LEVI SEEMS TERIFFIED AS IF HE'S BEEN SENTENCED TO DEATH AS WE'VE ALLEGEDLY "ADDED FUEL TO THE FIRE"??? CRAZY!! AND THEN SATAN'S SADISTIC LAUGHTER AFTERWARDS AND LEVI TRYING TO SCRAMBLE WITH COMPLIMENTS??

and then the "super similar to lucifer" part. i've literally recited this part with friends because of how tense yet hilarious this moment is because satan is on the VERGE of crashing out, and we are nothing but PEDESTRIANS to the violent verbal onslaught we will hear next.

and then the pause in dramatic music "y-yeah in the best possible way" levi-chan. you've killed us. satan's taken the knife from it and stabed it into my abdomen and you have not only TWISTED it deeper by saying that, but you also let it push through the other side and left me dying in an alleyway. you motherfucker. "Oh no…".

sumi's performance here just screaming into his microphone.. with the bleeps and everything.. i wish we had an uncensored version but oh my godness the performance here is absolutely amazing… "this is your last chance leviathan. tell me the right answer." it's the desperation and fear in kada's voice as he's pretty much PLEADING FOR HIS LIFE and spluttering is PALPABLE. and the way the tension manages to go from BOILING to gentle simmering is just. amazing. "levi, and you do.. be careful next time." BE CAREFUL OF WHAT?? YOU WERE THE PROBLEM KING CRASH OUT??

i'm really glad that in this audio drama they said that they had fun, especially sumi. kada even comments on his energy and how he looked like he was having a blast acting. it's actually wonderful to know that there was passion absolutely dripping from every orifice from this House of Lamentation Live segment because it was an absolute pleasure to listen to!!

(so many audio dramas feature levi turning into a child.. not that i mind kada's impression anyways. he sounds very cute, especially when he's begging for lucifer to just spend time with him. i like to think that it's levi's internal dialogue since he finds himself alone a lot, but its very very adoraable..)

Otaku FM Anime and Chill Season 1 ep 7: Lucifer, One More Time!

it's popular for a reason, its basically Lucifer and the Factory Tour (which i WILL talk about later) with more humor and it gets real sweet near the end… but i really love the voice acting here as well. regardless i love the younger brother & older brother dynamic established here; levi being super grateful about his new earbuds, then all of a sudden forgetting about the forbidden properties of the book and turning into a three year old.

it's so RARE that you see a lucifer this desperate within an audio drama "Look, look. Peekaboo! Peekaboo!" this man is pulling out tricks from the celestial realm and levi is still crying. kada's crying actually improves the further you go into the audio drama.. it's still adorable.. and the "Hana Ruri Flash"… AHHH THIS AUDIO DRAMA IS JUST AMAZING!! AND THE HIGH PITCHED VOICE LUCIFER HAS?? HHH <33 yama-san's performance is just so amazing here and kada's baby "Hana Ruri Flaaachu", and the little "hey hey"'s for attention.. i'd love to see their expressions acting this out because this is soo adorable i love father and son dynamics i love baby levi i love thiss i love levi just being so needy as a baby because this audio drama is so amazing plot wise and acting wise.

"Earf looks yummy!" hes so. my baby. hes my little china doll. i need to wrap in bubble wrap and plastic tarp to keep him save in my arms. and the admission of him wanting lucifer to stay with him… and lucifer finding him adorable….so adorable… "I just wamted to pway wif you."

and the fact that lucifer cancels all his plans just so he can have time to play with him is just sooo heartwarming. whoever said "lucifer abuses his siblings" is a LIAR and a FRAUD because HE LOVES THEM SO FREAKING MUCH.

"Now you can play with your big brother until your heart's content. " hes so.. lucifer's so cute…wah…AND WHEN LEVI TURNS BACK THE NOISE LUCIFER MAKES IS LIKE A QUACK. "Huh?" and its so perfectly timed because he's done all that and now his brothers an adult recluse again…. part of me thinks that levi remembers the encounter, but is too embarassed but.. damn. one whole audio drama of baby levi and big brother lucifer please!!!

leviathan going first was a bad omen.. once he had his flub at the beginning it was like a non-stop train of flubs. he flubs like three times.. while ayme only flubs once which is like. wow. professional actor vs random gay musician. hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby but the coughing baby won.

Otaku FM Anime and Chill Season 1 ep 9: Give It to Me, Asmo!

i just liked the competition portion. i knew kada would lose because of the sheer hatred the producers have against him /j.

it sets up this basis that they're doing the impossible.

i feel like they were sort of half-acting half-unserious because i know for a fact kada was half DEVESTATED at the difference between times.

"i'm such a naughty demon" asmo you can do things to me… "all is fair in love and war" and im HOPELESSLY DEVOTED TO HIM!11!.

and the complaining the drama: "I don't wanna do this anymore" WELL IT'S TOO DAMN BAD. THAT WAS REALLY REALLY GOOD AND YOU BOTH TRIED YOUR BEST. even though miura won by 12 seconds, kada won by emotion and my heart, so they both did amazing <333

Otaku FM Anime and Chill Season 2 ep 1: Diavolo's Training Day.

again the dynamic between vas just elevates this performance even further!! (also i love dialevi..but thats besides the point) this idea of diavolo trying to give back to one of his role models is soo just.. its such a tangible idea yknow?? it just makes sense, and the humorous way that diavolo tries to read minds with this sort of PHYSICAL effort is so humourous. especially this explaination of barbatos's sort of "mythical" powers when it comes to telling what he wants (even though it is SOMEWHAT explained in another audio drama (Barbatos's Unepected Replacement)).

the fact that diavolo blatantly gives up, saying "I have no idea" and the way levi says the answer as if all-knowing.. very very humorous. even yamamoto conveys diavolo's sheepishness to levi's otaku ways quite perfectly here too.

HOWEVER. what's so amazing about this audio drama is the fact that they purposefully give him convoluted and crazy words and tongue twisters to work with.. which is probably why he audibly struggles here "Ono.. onono.." and then he SIGHS like he's being given 100kg whilst voice acting at the same time and his voice WAVERS and oh my GOD it just brings this realization that we're all HUMANS and i found his flub really really funny but KADA SATOSHI IS TRYING HIS BEST OKAY??? AND HE'S REALLY ADORABLE HERE

"Ah… No…" HES TRYING TO SAY LONELONE-CHAN AND MIMOMIMO-CHAN AND GYARIGYARI-CHAN!! LET HIM COOK.. and even though it isn't part of the drama, kada's deflated persona at the end of the audio drama just is a chef's kiss. acting as if takuhei-san planted those tongue-twisters in the script.. "Can you explain yourself?" i started laughing too, the writers for these are really really funny….

Leviathan-Sensei's Otaku FM ep 2: Mammon's Sixth Sense - i just think the "levi-chawn" at the beginning is neat.

Otaku FM Anime and Chill - Season 2 ep 2: Lucifer and the Factory Tour.

i don't like lucifer that much as a character but this entire audio drama felt so heartwarming. i really don't have that much to say about it but i feel like it's so interesting learning more about the interpersonal relationships between characters especially on Otaku FM.. this one just felt so much more authentic and fluffy, like genuine siblings have a good heart to heart. even though i don't have much to day, this audio drama still evokes lots of feelings that i never expected to feel..

hiiiii anon :] lesboy is a term used for quite a long time in the lesbian community (think like before stonewall long time) to describe transmasc lesbians! so that's the lesboy thing.

i identify as a lesbian because ive found the most acceptance and love and validation within our community for my personal identity specifically. (if you want other details im transmasc, nonbinary, and genderfluid, and a system which doesn't help LMFAO). lesbian is honestly more of my gender identity than my sexuality at this point, which is another thing that the lesbian community is super supportive of which i love :]

i identify as bisexual as well because i have a capacity to love men, its just super SUPER unlikely (my boyfriend is the first ever!! [also dont get me started on lesbians with trans man partners that is also a thing and i also think it doesnt invalidate their lesbianism!]), and id sleep with men. neither of these i view as integral to my lesbian identity because it comes from a part of my system that doesn't really identify as a lesbian, but i do clarify it in my identity by using the term bisexual.

✦ It was difficult. Getting by in the big London city and rent to your flat was quite ridiculously high, even for usual london rent standard. But thankfully, a position in The Magnus Institute had opened and you managed to get the spot after wrangling out your best qualities to the HR like you're trading them.

✦ Now, you were aware of what you were getting into. I mean, an institute that's notorious for having many people going MIA or dying, but this was the only job that accepted you out of the millions you applied for and frankly, it pays better than most of them.

✦ So, you worked as the institute's librarian. It shocked you to know that they have their own personal library but at the same time, you kind of expected it. After all, it is an academic institute and there's bounds to be numerous books and soucres to cite for every statement given, regardless of how strange there are.

✦ You've met a couple on the job. Some were nice and often has small talks with you while some simply comes and goes, not even bothering to talk to you unless they're checking a book out. It was fine, of course, you can't help but feel disheartened. After all, all you do is stand by, organize the library and do nothing. It gets a bit lonely sometimes.

✦ And then, one day, a certain someone came to the library and it was no one other than big boss himself— Elias Bouchard. You never met the man before, only hearing him from Rosie and the others, but he is generally well-disliked by his own staff. You had nothing to complain about him and honestly, you find his company nice.

✦ He comes to the library whenever he has free time and then would talk to you. It wasn't just small talk, not just noise coming out of his mouth to fill in the silence, but he talked to you. He told you so many things— his opinions, his likes and dislikes —and even asked you about yours.

✦ Elias would listen intently, taking in every information about yourself in a manner so ... different from how he usually carried himself. Elias Bouchard was a prideful asshole and you knew that obviously well from just his body language, and yet when it comes to you, he is oddly soft. He reminds you almost like a dad for some reasons.

✦ And your relationship with your boss became like that. You didn't mind, you understand to some degree but even still you couldn't wrap your mind around why he chose specifically you. Maybe he didn't choose or maybe he did, but either way, this outcome was better than him hating you.

✦ But then, only a few months into your job, you suddenly got promoted to assistant archivist, joining the very few others in the archives in their day-to-day life.

✦ It was ... suffocating at first. The institute did suffer damage from the Prentiss Attack as you heard from the other employees and with the archives being the main target for the worms, it was not surprise that the Archivist and his team suffered greatly. Though injured, all of them still came back in one piece so that was a good thing.

✦ It took a while getting to know the others: Martin was the quickest to befriend and he'd bring you your favourite cup of tea whenever he can. Tim was the second, jokingly flirting with you at first but he was comfortable to be around and somehow both of your intensive knowledge on memes made the two of you friends. Sasha, on the other hand, took a bit more effort but in the end, she was just as fun and cheery as the other two outside work.

✦ Jon, on the other hand... He was wary, of course, a bit of an asshole too but you were determined to let his walls down, and so was the team. He gradually came to accept (aka get comfortable with) your existence and doesn't glare you like a cat you just rudely woke up.

✦ Elias... Elias isn't too pleased with this development though as you come find. He finds every excuse in the book to have you in office, stalling you just so he could spend more time with you. He had moved to the archives for one very specific reason and that was so he can watch you carefully.

✦ I mean, how couldn't he? You were so nice to him, oblivious to the concept of the entities and you didn't even care if he gets a bit 'spooky' (as Tim puts it) at times. In fact, he claimed you as his kid the moment you seem to play along with his 'little cryptid act'.

✦ But The Archival team... Oh, did they get on his nerves. But he couldn't do anything, no, he was sure you'll know and they'll tell you about what he truly is and he couldn't risk that. He couldn't lose you to them, so he'll have to just slightly abuse his power a bit. Just to have you be by his side a bit longer.

✦ Of course, Archivist and Co. can't stand by idly and watch him take their friend! And so, everytime Elias and one of them come to your desk at the same time, it's practically a tug of war for your affection and attention.

✦ It makes you laugh honestly, seeing them fight like this. Reminds you so much like a father trying to shoo away any his kid's admirers.... Only if you knew though, then you wouldn't be laughing.

I think! In evo everyone was like very young adults. I think pearl and grian went to high school together and grian innocently invited pearl to join evo like some sign up program thingy that they didnt know at the time was gonna be bad and irreversible-

I think pearl had a dumb teenage crush on grian. I cant even tell if its onesided or not. But it doesnt matter cause after the dragon fight he was gone. They took him away. Pearls best friend. Who welcomed him to the server, who had been there for him in a lot of personal important moments of their teenage years just like he was for G. Who introduced Pearl to everyone and gave him stuff to start out. Sure, Pearl is capable, doesnt need the help, but its so nice someone is so thoughtful.

And now that someone is gone. Pearl falls into a depressive episode for weeks, even months, with many other evolutionists trying to cheer him up. Eventually he does! Sort of. A happy christmas with friends.... before- the finale.

Before the world starts falling appart all around them. I picture this- purple sky, meteorites, parts of the world glicthing out, falling appart, eternal void, like the day they lost him.

And then they reach "safety", or so martyn and jimmy claim. Theyre the only ones who can speak to those *things* that helped them move to the new town. Never again like the old one. Thats for sure.

And Pearl- is trapped. In a cocoon. The evolutionist moth evolved, into a wolf. The dark shy closed off moth didnt work for the watchers anymore, they turned him into a happy and excited fierce dog, a man's best friend. That took him the whole season and so he missed 3rd life but he was there for last life and after scattering for resources-

Before meeting Scott.

He meets Grian.

After all this time. He sees Grian again. His best friend. His first love- and Grian doesn't seem to recognize him.

Sure, theyre both changed, physically and in demeanor. Just like Pearl grew taller and hairier, fluff replaced with fur, shyness replaced with open excitement and tons of energy. Grian had changed a whole lot. Hair, height, body type, it was as if theyd switched- except his face was just- creepy. Uncanny. It was still Grian just also- a completely different person.

He pretended like he didnt knew him. But that was a lie. Pearl knew it was a lie cause the moment he pushed too far trying to make him remember "evo and the old times", Grian snapped. He asked Pearl to not talk about Evo ever again, for his own good? Forget it ever happened.

And thus it became an unspoken rule between evo lifers to pretend like that never happened- some did better than others. Martyn surely forgot about the old days when he ditched Pearl at the end of DL session 1. Pearl didnt tho, and brought it up slightly to him at the Broken Hearts Club.

Even confronted BigB after finding out about the "secret soulmates" thing.

I like to think of Pearl, specially DL Pearl, a bit like Hera, specially EPIC Hera at least on her main song I heard. Viewing loyalty as so important and cheating as so horrible- cause lets be real, she just went off to the nether with a friend, the first one to claim someone else as his soulmate was Scott, but thats a whole other can of worms.

So when Scar, his only friend thats still by Pearl's side, brings up how his soulmate, GRIAN, is cheating on him- with BIGB of all people?

"BigB. I expected better from you."

Nothing else needs to be said. Because to have expectations is to think you know somebody. And Pearl thought he knew all his fellow evolutionists... seems not.

Oh but back to the gripearl stuff- the amount of rage Pearl must've felt finding out Grian was doing something as horrible as that to Scar, the only person he can rely on (cough snowblings crumbs)

Pearl officially hates Grian's guts. And he regrets ever even liking him in the first place.

Oh but when limited life hits and Grian looses his boys. His bad boys.

On one of their last nights, and they know it will be, BigB, Grian and Pearl, all sit behind those small barricades on the skyline (i forget what its called), reminiscing. Fuck rules. They all know theres a season after yet every finale does feel like the end of the world. The end of a world they know so well. Everything caving in and all they have is one another.

Brockton Edition, Worm Musical

(Worm spoilers of course)

My initial version focused more on Taylors personal life, the undersides and making freinds.

This version focuses on Brockton more and how taylor changes it.

It dips a bit more into Fanon Queen of escalation territory, but thats to serve showing how she is later in the story without of course having time to slowly develop that as canon does.

It opens with a long song either “the Ballad of Brockton Bay” or “Brocktonite Blues”

The song goes around the entire city setting up the diffrent gangs. Form E88 to Protocterate. And describing how terrible and hard living in Brockton is. Finally the song get to The undersides who jsut so happen to be in the process of robbing a bank. They burst on to the stage in smoke (Grues power) and we get Skitters threat of spiders.

song done the bank robbery happens and the wards show up. (Includes Amy though maybe no Vicky)

Next song is the fight between the groups the undersides escaping back to the loft.

at this point the audience is primed that they’re villains including Taylor.

im debating wether its better to reveal her trying to be a hero now or at the same time it’s revealed to the undersides, but i think now works better.

after some bonding at the loft and showing that they’re clearly all freinds and some comments about “the new girl beign terrifying” (that’s regent of course talking) Rachel leaves at some point and eventually So does taylor. We linger a second longer with Lisa and Brian. Brian asking Lisa if Taylors committed to them. Lisa of course reassures him that she 100% on their side.

also get some hints about a boss whos happy with them, aswell as the data that Tattletale stole.

Cut to the old ferry terminal skitters waiting around when Armsmaster pulls up. He was referenced earlier by one of the wards on coms so the audience would know he’s someone important both from them and from the opening song which would’ve mentioned him.

you get the back and forth as i mentioned in my first post like the Wormliton one. This reveals that taylor is trying to work undercover and also that she slighted Armsmaster by giving him a a dying man. The audience would be a bit confused most likely which is intentional. Thoguh the opening song would have a reference to the spider capturing the dragon so a keen listener or on repeat listens would appreciate it.

If they’re confused thoguh thats okay as after the two finish their song argument Taylor gets a call telling her that Bitch is missing and to meet them to search for her.

We then get Bakuda fight and song “I’m the bomb”? (No, i can do better. Hhmmmm. Ill think on it. Maybe some reference to Jirai Kei? Bomb-tastic? Bombass Bitch? Bomb on the Brain? Bomb in the brain? More Baku-da (like more Dakka)?okay these are getting worse and worse, ill stop.)

She of course mentions Lung beign taken down and how shes in charge.

undersiders lose fight of course but escape.

(im hoenslty not sure wether this whole scene is worth it. It would take up at leat 10 mintues and in manhy ways doesnt progress the plot. If i ever did a more detaield script i imagine this would either be cut or reworked. Maybe use it to show Taylor not being listened to and have it somehow tie into the themes better?)

tensiton rises between the group and they need to go to a villain hospital.

Coil reveals himself and says he’ll be there to give direct orders. Taylors pissed of course and thinking of leaving as soon as she learns more about him, but Lisa tells her about Dinah in a form of blackmail because Lisa needs Taylor to escape Coil and knows that Taylor wouldnt abandon a child.

We then get Coil talking to the group about hwo this is all good acutally and serves their purposes. He talks about plan to divide the city up between them (no travvelers) and how the information Tattletale stole is key to it. (maybe a song about how theyd rule the city thats manipulative adn mixes in the levearge he has over each of them, somehow knwoing that Taylor knows about Dinah and subtly threatening her as he does in canon. This also serves as undersides characterization as Unfortunalty we dont have much time for it elsewhere.)

they turn on a news report and the scene shift to them in the loft as the report plays (this is where id cut to if the Bakuda scene was cut. With Colin specifically leaving the meeting with Taylor to deal with the situation.)

The news talks abput medhall being revelaed as a E88 front and their identities. Pair this with Bombs from Bakuda and now Purity tearing up the city and the whole place is in chaos.

Taylors pissed and convinces the undersiders to go out and help, Lisa of course feelign she owes taylor this and so convinces Brian.

We then get an E88 confrontation. Tensions rise even higher when the heroes arrive and fight the undersiders who are trying to help. A song starts about them all fighting, and jsut beofre it gets going all noise cuts off as a siren plays.

All fighitng stops and the groups join toghether as more and more ccapes arrive.

rain lights and noises cast the stage in blue and no music plays.

Legend gives speech and a thin curtain drops.

we then get back and froth between shadows cast on the curtain running around and fighting. Adn people walking on stage and announcing deaths. (100% stolen from someone on reddit who came up with the no music announcing the names of the dead one after the other.) Occasionaly a cut in will come from Skitter, Lisa, Armsmaster, Or legend (Nobody wold know who Alexandria or Dragon is, so not worth it).

On the shadow play we eventually get clearly Skitter and Armsmaster fighting Leviathan and the following betrayal.

The announcer for names walks on stage and announces Skitters death.

Okay, now this woudl break traditional structure. But i think the curtain for the first act should close right then. Is it a big ending number, no. But the audience should still be engaged. The main character jsut died! I think its a fun twist that woudl be intresting and would do a good job keeping a tone for the play.

Act two would then open with Taylor lying in a pile of rubble her arm chopped off so the armband registered her as dead. (The shadow work if you where paying attention would’ve shown this).

she starts singing a solo that starts soft and quite. It talks about how she jsut wanted to be a hero. She thought she could help. She thought she could make the city a better place. She tried working with the heroes. She tried beign nice.

As she’s singing it shows her beign healed and brought to the tents and then leaving to walk the city. (Amy was set up in bank so healing makes sense to the audience. And yes we’re skipping any drama at the healing tents.)

as she’s walking the city she bemoans how the heroes have done nothing for years. We get some references to the opening song and we see merchants and other gangs on the street.

No, the heroes had their turn. It’s hers.

Gangers are scared off by what are shown as bugs. Drug piles are eaten. E88 graffiti is replaced with (actually i forget what symbol her territory uses) and the song of course gets more forceful. It’s all about how she know what’s right, that she should be in control etc.

I imagine it woudl be called something like “8th plague diplomacy” a reference of course to gunship diplomacy and Lisas line at the end of canon referencing how taylor forces everyone else to follow her.

I know this is a quick transition but I genuinely don’t know how we’d get this type of character beat done in such a small time frame without a transition like this. I did my best to set it up and foreshadow it with stuff like keeping the spiders in the opening bank heist and forcing the undersides to go help with the E88.

That’s what i got so far for this one.

Im sure I’ll finish writing this at some point.

The remaining beats are beating up all the gangs (probably merchants next)

the advantages of this plot over my initial one is theres a lot more action adn progress to the story. And it holds room for more machinations and schemes.

But it does lack the deeper charter work and if the actress playing Taylor and the script wasn’t good enough to get the audience on her side without a large portion of the first act being focused on why she feels wronged adn putting the audience in her shoes then the whole thing falls apart.

so its a gamble.

also need to talk about how each character has leitmotifs associated to them and how that would help manage such a large cast aswell as guide the audience with keeping track of whose on what side and such.

*opens my hands* tell me about Fight Club and why it makes you so mad I would like to hear <- has never seen Fight Club

HI so first. most of what makes me mad is that it's actually pretty fucking good like its been done now but it was real fucking original at the time and it's genuinely clever and funny at parts but what makes it irritating as hell is that it Knows That its smart and rubs it in the audiences face and it makes me go graahhhhh i hate you. i dont know how to explain it but it makes me mad vibes wise for the same reason that rent makes me mad. like the musical not the concept of paying rent.

also, second, it's really clear that this guy just hates women. the movie tones a lot of it down but in the book marla is like, really really in love with tyler and thats sort of her whole thing? and theres this one girl at one of the support groups i think her name was chloe. shes dying from cancer right and nobody will fuck her because chemos making her gross looking. so in the movie they set her up as a real girl with wants and needs and then soon before she dies she starts to get really desperate to get laid one last time and its like thematically relevant and parallels with tyler and the narrator or whatever. but in the book shes just horny the whole time and its like a gag? you can tell that theres just no respect for her at all.

also third the book i cant really tell if its chuck palahniuk who hates fat people or if he wants to set tyler up as a bad dude- different from the cancer girl thing, cancer girl is wrote bad but bob is viewed bad. the number of gross derogatory synonyms for 'fat' that he thinks of is astonishing.

and fourth the book is just really preachy i guess? pretentious? you can tell that mr palahniuk doesnt exactly agree with like, exploding apartments or crashing cars, but i think he really does think that tyler durden is a cool as hell dude and that men are all really sad all of the time and that its Womens Fault and also their fathers i guess. and god? and capitalism. which circles back to their fathers. and also women. poor marla jfc

finally i hate it cause the prose style wormed its little fucking wormy squirmy head into my brain and this is gonna sound crazy but my inner monologue sounds like chuck palahniuk as the narrator slash tyler durden (also slash as himself he just sounds like that) now. ive complained about this before but seriously its terminal. im dying. there should be a support group for victims of fight club the book slash the movie. everyone shows up in cosplay

also ps i mentioned this but. god he's an asshole but brad pitt is just so so hot in it. like really really hot. like it really sucks how hot he is. i saw him walk on screen and i was like 'oh you suck' but he talked for five minutes and i was like 'nevermind i want you'. free me. the lye scene with the hand kiss and the burn and the ugh it has not left my head. trying to figure out what the best place for the name reveal will be for the soulmate au 🧐 and who it should come from

my initial thought was for thor to accidentally do the name drop since he doesnt know that no one has told loki the name of his soulmate yet, but im not entirely sure how to work it in now that im actually writing the brodinsons scene

it could also come during the court case as part of the argument for loki of just "hey his soulmate is a hero, so chances are that he'll become one too if you give him a chance" but idk if i actually wanna write the court case since it's not?? that important and i can just kinda gloss over it to avoid making this even longer than it's already bound to be

the last thing i can think of is for it to come when loki is on locar looking for her, though im not sure if it would be better for the name drop to come from her or from the other locarians. either way, putting it so late has a lot of potential for brain worms bc it means this man went to a planet full of boogeymen that would probably want to kill him to find a woman he didn't even know the name of because he just wants a chance to be loved. idk if it's entirely doable though unless he goes out of his way (or adelaide does) to make sure he never hears the name during the month hes just waiting in new york

Guys imagine...Chopper new to the strawhat crew and he wants to do like one of those routine physicals with everyone and also just get to know them n shit.

So chopper sits everyone down and is like "Okay so. If you ever need to talk about something, ANYTHING, im here for you!" and everyone is super touched by how kind this kid is.

Everyone in some capacity does, and theyre like little therapy sessions. Some talk to Chopper more than once a week and he's perfectly fine with that. He likes helping the crew he's become a part of. The only one who doesnt visit is Zoro. At first, Chopper doesnt think much of it. Zoro likes to keep to himself anyways and the kid doesnt wanna force anyone to talk to him about their problems, its counterproductive anyways to try and do that. After thriller bark, though, Chopper sits Zoro down against his will.

What he does learn though is that Zoro doesnt want to add more baggage to whatever chopper is dealing with. Despite chopper's reassurance, zoro refuses to stress the reindeer out. Its not even because zoro thinks he needs to be strong, its because zoro sees chopper as like a little brother he wants to support and take care of.

That totally doesnt make chopper tear up at all. Nope.

Zoro does talk to chopper that day about some stuff like Kuina, his childhood at the dojo, him being a pirate hunter before meeting luffy, and a few stories from before chopper joined. If they were friends before this theyre definitely best friends after.

After that, maybe once in a blue moon, zoro will go visit chopper. Sometimes he'll take a nap and other times he'll talk about something mundane. He's probably only talked about something serious maybe twice, but chopper still listens no matter what.

12. What’s something Orin and your Durge always agreed on?--

They are artists to their core! Viriani -loved- Orins sculptures and shrines. Encouraged it until it became a problem (public displays for people to find), and even then didnt really do much to staunch her creativity. He felt it important for her to find her own way of expressing her love of bhaal. She wasnt head of the cult, and never would be, so it didnt matter so much.

Viriani was an orator and a performance artist, often orchestrating battles for Fifth Day Sabbats.

Perhaps a fight between new recruits and himself in order to cull the weakest and see for himself the potential of his Acolytes.

Or he would bring in entire families into the temple. Kidnap them, dumpt them onto the temple dais, and give them all a weapon. He liked to see how they would respond to all their dirty laundry being aired out for each other and all of his congregation. Only the most tragic, grotesque family melodrama would do for Virianis stage. He liked how often the last man standing was one of the children. He found it very telling about life in general.

23: How does your Durge feel when they learn that Orin betrayed them and was responsible for their brain damage and tadpoling? Do they consider it a betrayal at all? --

This is one of my favorite parts of Viriani's story. He is immediately confronted with the truth that some woman he knew betrayed him. But then as he learns who Orin was and who he is he falls into a sort of denial.

When Viriani woke up on the nautiloid, he alrwady had a few fresh memories of Orin, post tadpole.

Before being dumped in the colony under Moonrise, Orin had Vir sent to the local iron quarries under Gortash's nose. That would have been the end of that, but Vir started killing off formen and fellows slaves, causing a general ruckus. Orin hadnt thought that Virianis so called 'Dark Urge' was anything more than a metaphor.

He recalled being bound and held down by a group of men as Orin approached through the parting crowd (very dramatic of her) unable to recognize Orin. But Vir knew that this Red Woman (as he calls her for a time) was wearing armor made of his own flesh. His Urge more than Vir could recognize the slayers hide and they go into a rage that she shuts down fairly easily. Orin is spooked enough to give him to the myrkulites in hopes they can butcher him properly where she still doesnt have the emotional strength. She hates him, yes. But what is hate to a bhaalspawn but a fascet of affection?

In the moment, when orin is making mashed potatoes out of his brain, some of his last coherant thoughts are about how he doesnt believe she had the ability to do it all on her own, manipulated by sarevok etc etc. Because in his hubris and general ignorance of Orins true feelings, he both put her on a bit of a pedistal, and even infantalized her in a way. He excused her behavior far more often than he should, gave her freedoms he really shouldnt have trusted her with.

Post tadpole, around the tail end of act 2, it is difficult for him to come to terms with the betrayal. he finally accepts her part in it as -her- part rather than writing her off as a pawn.

The end all be all of it is that he does in fact put responsibility on her for her part in his betrayal.

but dramatic, tragic power plays are Bhaals bread and butter. So he doesnt blame her, or hold any real lasting grudges. He considers it a part of the natural progression of things. She tried to usurp power and failed and was punished by bhaal. As is how it should be.

This is also why he doesnt really hate Bhaal for all the bullshit. Not the only reason, but thats a whole other can of worms to open.

I was thinking on if Nemesis Au Alex would still adopt Johnny Croak and im leaning towards yes but things would be...somewhat different.

The thing is, Alex's fear of having kids is a very prominent aspect of everything. He doesnt know how to process the fear of ending up like his father; he has an unwitting belief that him being involved in having kids would lead to harm or ruin, as if something in him would corrupt them [he needs therapy so bad]

in the canon timeline, he's pretty much forced into confronting this head on. the situation with Clara and the hybrid leaves no choice in the matter. he would choose Clara's life over his own fear no matter what, and he's thrown into parenthood and, with much struggle with everything else going on, slowly coming to terms that his fear is unfounded [which opens seperate can of worms in terms of processing]. it's only after the hybrid had to be sent a way that Alex meets Johnny, after those feelings have been somewhat abetted and he's in a much better place to look after a kid

Nemesis Au timeline would be. Different. not only had Alex never faced those emotions and fears, he's also got a whole seperate layer of trauma and emotional distance that canon Alex never had. the path far more brutal, the man he is so very different.

Not to mention the whole Licentiate thing.... but, well, Johnny Croak is notoriously an assassin too, now isn't it he?

in every timeline, the two parallel each other, but especially here. I think meeting the kid would be something that would break through that emotional veneer Alex had acquired- the realization that this so called assassin is a *kid*, just a young boy, who the world had done nothing to take care of.... it would break something, just a little, with Alexs own experiences, and with his loss.

I think he'd very much still have the urge to look after the kid, to try and keep him from the worst of it, even if Alex doesn't know what he's doing or how to emotionally accept parenthood in this timeline
