Thenamesh Doctor AU is amazing! My request:
There was a pretty bad accident, let’s say a bus crashed, and 8 patient coming to Thenas ER. But Thenas ER is pretty short staffed so after the 4th patient Gil volunteers to help her out and they both work amazingly together! Let’s say a bit of action with fluff in the end:)
"A bus has crashed off the main highway, luckily with no casualties, although eight critically injured are on their way to seek care."
Thena turns away from the news on the tv and to Ajak, who is already picking up the phone. "Get all the beds clear, if we can discharge someone, do it. Get Sprite down here in case we need Pediatric help, and tell Ikaris that we might need his help with any bone setting. I may not have the hands to spare."
"Thena, we're still down two nurses and both the residents assigned here are tied up on other cases."
"Then we make do with who's here," Thena offers factually as she readies herself for the oncoming flood. "How far out are they?"
"Gil reported in, they're three minutes out!"
She sees him already, rushing in with interns and nurses at the sides of the stretcher. "What have we got?"
"Four head traumas, quite a few glass lesions, two shoulder resets and a driver with one hell of a chest cavity impact," Gil lists off for her concisely and in order of patient and severity, just how she likes it.
"Head traumas first, get them into scans, we need to know what we're dealing with before we even think about moving them around too much!" Thena directs as the first few stretchers pull off. The next one comes up and she can already see a very long shard of glass in an arm, probably a little too close to some very important veins. "Gil, help me up!"
He doesn't hesitate, grasping her by the waist and lifting her cleanly up and over to straddle the patient. "We got the bleeding cleaned up at the scene but that thing's in deep."
"We'll have to remove it surgically," Thena shakes her head, grasping the base of the glass shard and snapping off the extending length of it. "Get that shard somewhere out of the way and page the necessary surgeons for a trauma--Gil!"
All nurses and young doctors accompanying the patient startle as Thena leaps off the stretcher and into Gil's arms again, as if this is Cirque du Soleil and not an Emergency Room.
The stretchers pull off and Gil sets Thena on her feet gently (as if she didn't leap from a stretcher at full speed like a maniac). She looks up at him with a frown, "that was the last run of your shift. You should go."
"Hey," he shakes his head, giving her that smile of his that would make anyone in an emergency situation feel at ease. "You see this place? I'm not goin' anywhere."
Thena gives him a look as they separate, heading in tandem towards the patients stable enough to be parked. "This is not in agreement with your union rules."
Gil shrugs, jogging lightly alongside her to their chest impact. "A little overtime never kill anyone. And what kind of ass hole would I be if I let you and Ajak handle this place alone?"
Thena has the seconds to spare to give Gil's hand a squeeze before she pulls on a pair of gloves. "Let's take a look."
"Doc...I can't...b-brea-"
"Okay, it's okay," Thena says quietly, using the low tone of her velvety voice to try and lull him into some sense of security. She looks at Gil, who doesn't even have to be looking at her to rattle off the patient's vitals while pulling his shoes off.
"Good colour, no loss of blood flow," Gil informs from the end of the bed.
"I think it's a floating rib stuck into his lung," she murmurs to Gil as she finishes her most preliminary examination. She moves back to the head, pulling up the eyelids and doing a quick pupillary test. "Sir, does it hurt to breathe?"
He nods.
Thena feels along his clavicle, "that's intact. Sir, have you suffered any injuries to your ribs before, like a fracture or a break?"
He nods again. as emphatically as he can manage.
"Let's get him get him something for the pain," she gives Gil's bicep a nudge and he reaches for an oxygen mask to help get some air into him easier. "I want an x-ray before we make any rash decisions. It could just be agitating the lung or it could be on the verge of piercing it. Ikaris will know."
"Got it," Gil responds so she knows he's heard her, continuing his work on the patient just as he would in the field. There is indeed some bruising around his side, but no signs of broken blood vessels or deeper tissue damage.
"Thank you," she whispers to him before heading back to the nurses station. Ajak is filling out paperwork like the wind to have all their patient files at the ready as the ball gets rolling. "How are we doing?"
"I think we're just about ready," Ajak mutters as she licks her finger, flicking through physical papers while someone else updates the files digitally. "Most of the stitching is being done by the kids, but the largest one may need your help. It's a pretty wide gash from the artifact getting moved around in transport."
"Okay," Thena nods, accepting the chart from her on said case. She looks at Ajak, "Gil is with our chest trauma now. I want to get him put under after we do his x-rays to reset a rib that's affecting his breathing."
"Gil?" Ajak pauses in her frenzy to look up at her attending friend, "shouldn't he be off by now?"
"He should be, but he insisted on staying until we get our heads above water with this bus situation."
Ajak stays quiet, observing the smile on Thena's face on the subject of the sweet paramedic. She should have known; Gil would never willingly step away from Thena if he thought she needed help. "I'm not the one paying him--if he wants to stay and help, he can stay and help."
"That's what I said," Thena laughs faintly, just in the very narrow moment she has to share with her most trusted nurse. "Come notify me with any results?"
Ajak merely gives Thena - already trotting off to her lesion repair - a thumbs up as she calls yet another department to send down a specialist as soon as they're available.
No one is surprised to see Gil around in the ER, helping out as needed long into the night. He's been on for more than his fair 12 hours by now, but he stays, and stays, making sure people have the assistance they need.
Those who aren't familiar with the situation only have nerve enough to ask Ajak why he's stuck around so long (they would never dare ask Thena).
Ajak tells them that it's what Thena's work husband does--he stays and supports his work wife. Then she tells them to stop standing around and gossiping when they have patients to see.

Too Close To Home (Malcolm Bright x Reader)
Request: Hi! I'd like to request a Malcolm Bright x reader or OFC story. Malcolm and the reader know each other since a few years. The reader has grown up in an abusive family and also has anxiety. They spend more time together cuz of a case. When the reader gets into danger, Malcolm saves her. He guides her home afterwards. First he doesn't want to come in but then they spend the night together (smutty or not, whatever you prefer). Afterwards they experience the most peaceful sleep they've had in ages :) (by @angelicastiel), [Prodigal Son-Masterlist]
Summary: Another case you & your team got to work on. This time, though, the backstory of the killer hit a bit too close to home. Still, you wanted to get the job done & arrest the murderer. There would have been a better, less dangerous way, but you could not change your actions anymore. And maybe you got something out of it. Something you had been wanting for the longest time.
Words: 3,827
Warnings: mentions of anxiety, angst, language, probably spoilers for season 2, father figure!Gil, little kidnapping situation, talks of murder (I mean, it’s Prodigal Son), first time writing for Prodigal Son (even though I do feel kinda confident writing for it, idk…let me know what you think)
If you like my work & wanna support me: a coffee would be highly appreciated ❤
Being part of Gil Arroyo’s team was a dream coming true. Your years in college were spent working your ass off in order to end up in a job like that. Not only did Gil give you a place to work, he also took you under his wing. Talking about your past was something you dreaded but somehow you found yourself opening up to him. He knew about your parents & could tell when things started becoming too much for you. Throughout your time at the NYPD, you got closer with your team. Dani & JT had become your best friends. Malcolm, on the other hand, had been a different case. While the two of you sure were friendly with one another, you slowly developed a little crush on the profiler. Who were you kidding? You had the biggest crush, it was kind of embarrassing. Especially because Dani & JT teased the living hell out of you. Luckily, Gil had yet to notice. You did not want to bring private business into your job.
This case had been a tough one. Not only that but it hit too close to home for your liking. The killer you had been looking for left you a letter at the crime scene. It was a man who had been abused by his parents when he was younger. In that letter, he explained why he did what he did. Like, yeah, you came from an abusive household, too, but you were not running around, murdering a what looked like innocent man. Like, chill a bit. Gil pulled you a few feet away from the scene after you all had finished reading. This left Dani, JT & Edrisa alone with looking for more details. Malcolm was still nowhere to be found, even though all of you had tried calling him a couple of times.
“Maybe you should sit this one out.” Gil’s hand was on your shoulder, keeping you an arm’s distance away to take a look at your face. He knew right away that you were thinking about your own parents & sometimes things could be messy if private stuff got mixed up with work stuff. Again the reason why you kept your feelings for Malcolm at bay.
“Gil.” you sighed. “I’ll be fine. Besides, you guys need me.” Gil hated to admit it but you were right. The team was lost without you & nobody knew if your killer was planning another crime while you were inspecting this scene. A voice interrupted your conversation & both, you & Gil, looked at where it was coming from. Would you look at that. Malcolm, everyone. Fashionably late, as always. Why did he have to look so good though? Ugh…
“I heard there was another murder? What have we got?” Malcolm, being his usual self when it came to crime scenes, directed his questions at both of you.
“You would know if you decided to show up sooner.” Gil gave him a tight lipped smile & you could hear the sarcasm in his statement. Yeah, nobody could ever stay mad at Malcolm for a long time. Except maybe JT. But he seemed like he was just pissed off by whatever Malcolm did. That was why they were such great friends.
“The guy left us a letter, kind gesture, right? Edrisa should have it.” your arms crossed over your chest to hide how bad your hands were shaking. The action did not go unnoticed by Malcolm, though. He could tell you were uncomfortable. Your anxiety seemed even worse than usually. It was not like you ever opened up to Malcolm about your struggles. You had found it hard to talk about your feelings, even when you talked to Gil. But since Gil had become some sort of father figure to you, you found it a little easier to open up to him. The thing was that Malcolm was working even when he was not working. Which meant that he was profiling others even outside of work. It was not hard to notice your trembling hands, your bouncing legs, your struggle to keep eye contact. He could tell that your anxiety was bad. Most days, you hid it rather well, he had to give you that. A normal person would have never noticed anything wrong with your behavior. Malcolm, though, knew better & while he did not know what had happened to you in the past, he knew you were struggling nevertheless. But he could worry about you another time, for now, he had to focus on the crime scene.
As Malcolm walked over to where Edrisa was standing, you pulled at Gil’s hand, motioning him to follow you. Edrisa handed over the letter & explained briefly what they had found so far. You knew what was about to come. As did everyone else, so you quieted down & let the profiler do his job.
“Our dear murderer wrote the letter after he killed James here. The ink is too fresh & some of the letters are smudged. The printer in the office was still running when you got here, right?” this earned him a nod from Edrisa. “No fingerprints, though, he was smart enough to wear gloves. Which brings me to my assumption that he had planned this long beforehand. The bruises show that he was strangled & while we still have to wait for the autopsy, I’m almost entirely sure that he was killed because of that. I believe the stab wounds were caused after he died. The way his words were written sounds way too passionate for an accident. No, this guy, he was enjoying it. If it were an accident, he would have left the scene way sooner. But he took the time to type a letter & print it, to complete his mission by laying it right on top of our victim’s chest.” Malcolm finished & looked around to find everyone rolling their eyes except for you. Whenever he started rambling & piecing evidence together, you simply stood there mesmerized. This time was not different. His eyes met yours & he shot you a little smile which you copied.
“Anything else you wanna tell us? Like, why you’re way too excited about this entire thing?” JT spoke up. You gave him a little slap & chuckled.
“Don’t act like it’s something new.” laughing when you looked at his face.
“Okay, guys. Wrap it up here, we need to continue this at the precinct.” Gil’s authority voice came through & you all knew better than to mess with him.
Malcolm, Dani & JT were already in one of the offices when you & Gil came in. Usually, you asked Gil to take you everywhere, mostly because you got rather shaky during cases & you did not trust yourself enough to drive on your own. Gil told you he did not mind at all.
“Found anything useful?” you asked when you entered & looked over JT’s shoulder to make out what he was doing on his laptop. Malcolm stood at the front of the room, right in front of the whiteboard & was too busy sorting his thoughts to even notice you. Dani told you that they had no luck just yet & soon you found yourself helping them with research, something you were incredibly good at. Gil had left for a while but when he got back, he brought each of you a cup of coffee, knowing it was bound to be a long night without much rest. Being the stubborn person that you were, you declined his request of you calling it a night & heading back home. You were onto something & could not stop right now. Gil let the topic die down with a long sigh. The five of you spent the entire night looking for clues & connections & by the time the sun started rising, you had a plan filed out to catch the killer.
After hours of research, mostly from you, you found out that the victim had very wealthy parents. Parents who loved their kid like nothing else. Parents who would do anything for their kid. Checking his social media profiles, you could tell that he was not silent about his wealth or the love he felt for his parents. “Enough to get our killer started.” Malcolm had said. It took you a while but after checking James’ classmates, you had a suspect & after checking his social media accounts, you knew where you had to go to catch him. Sometimes, things could be so easy, so clear to see. Probably a bad idea to expect you were right with everything but you had a good feeling. Yet, you could not quite understand how someone could kill just because of envy. Just because they did not have what someone else did.
Your suspect spent almost all of his evenings in a local pub, not too far away from the precinct. It was a small pup, not a lot of people, but since it was Friday, you expected it to be filled tonight.
“Why does (Y/N) have to be bait again?” Malcolm asked after discussing the plan yet another time.
“Because she looks more like a guest of a pub like that. You would be out of place, so would Dani & JT.” Gil reasoned. He did not like the idea either but it was probably the best shot they had.
“Right, because if I make an effort I can actually look like an alcoholic. Is that what you’re saying?” despite your chuckle, you found yourself growing more & more nervous. Malcolm noticed right away, didn’t comment on it though.
“What I’m saying is that we all want this asshole locked up & I don’t want you to look like an alcoholic. I want you to go there as if you just got done with work for the day. Take a seat at the bar. We’ll be connected with you this entire time, we’ll hear your conversation. Wait a little & if he doesn’t approach you then you will. Understood?” Gil looked around the room, kept his focus on you, though, & when you nodded he told you all to head off & get this party started.
“You’re nervous.” you flinched when you heard a voice beside you. Malcolm. Of course.
“I’m not. Just preparing myself.” you did not mean to sound this harsh but he did not really pay attention to that.
“So your shaking hands are a form of preparation?” he teased but you could not focus on his way of calming you right now. Your anxious mind was killing you.
“Look, Mal, I need to go, okay? We’ll talk later.” & before he even had the chance to answer, you were sprinting off.
Ordering a strong drink at the bar in the hopes of it calming your nerves, you tried acting as if you did go out every night. In fact, you were highly uncomfortable. Crowds made your anxiety act up & pubs were usually worse. Drunk people wanting to get laid or whatever. It just was not your world. Anyway, you had better things to focus on. Your suspect had already walked up to the bar & took, much to your dismay, a seat too far away from you to start an actual conversation. Quickly informing your team, an idea popped into your head. He would start taking an interest in you if you got him to grow envious. So without overthinking, you grabbed your phone from your purse & pretended dialing someone.
“Hi mom! How are you?” as much as it hurt saying those words, you felt accomplished when you noticed the suspect’s eyes on you. “Great, as always! We still on for lunch tomorrow?...Perfect! Actually, I wanted to thank you for the purse you got me! I found the package earlier today, you are crazy. That’s way too much.” if it were not for your job at the NYPD, you would make one hell of an actor. Deep down, your heart was breaking a little more with each word you said. “Oh? I’m your favorite daughter? I’m your only daughter, mom, but thanks.” you gave a genuine, or at least you hoped it sounded genuine, laugh & continued. The man had already made his way over to you & took the empty seat next to you. You had him, not fully but almost. Just keep going, you thought to yourself. “Tell dad I miss him, too! I’ll make sure to meet up with him soon. A much needed father-daughter weekend. It has been too long…Alright, I love you too, bye.” you ended your call & placed the phone back into your purse. Gil would kill you after you finished this case. Once again you were improvising but at least it got you here, sitting next to a possible killer. Possible killer? No, you knew it was him. He made it rather obvious after that fake phone call. Thinking about what you had just said on the phone got cut short by the man beside you speaking up.
“Sounds like a nice mom.” a drink in his hand, his gaze not focused on you but on the liquid in his glass.
“Oh, she’s the best. I’m lucky to have her. Same goes for my dad.” these words hurt so bad & if you were not so focused on arresting this asshole you would have started breaking down right in the middle of this bar.
“I’m Enrico, by the way.” he held out his hand for you to shake which you did.
“(Y/N).” faking another smile at him, you were surprised that your silly plan actually seemed to work. This dude was desperate. And it made him extremely dangerous.
“(Y/N), wanna head out & catch some fresh air? This pub is filling up.” he placed money on the counter, paying for not only his but also your drink. Thanking him, you got up. When his hand grabbed yours, you slightly flinched but did not pull away. The thought of your team waiting outside with handcuffs made you breathe easier. Arriving outside did not exactly put your mind at ease. Where was your team? Just when you wanted to turn around, you felt a strong grip around your waist & a cloth being held in front of your nose & mouth. There was not even enough time to scream before you were met with darkness.
Loud voices woke you up. A gunshot. Shit, why could you not move? Where the fuck were you? Looking down at your wrists, you saw them being chained tightly to a chair. Suddenly, a person was kneeling in front of you & you were surprised to find Gil helping you out of the chains. His mouth was moving but your heartbeat was too loud to make out any other noises.
“Have you got him?” Gil rolled his eyes at your question but soon after, nodded. This could have ended badly for you & he was just happy to see you alive & breathing.
“You hurt?” this time his voice was more serious. He looked you over but besides the bruises on your wrists, you seemed fine. Shaking your head no was enough for him to drop it for now.
“That was stupid, (Y/N). We could’ve walked in there & just arrested him in that damn pub. Why did you think it was a good idea to start this whole pretending thing?”
“Could we please not do this today, Gil? I’m tired.” you felt ashamed, embarrassed that you did not handle the situation better. Usually, you were way more careful when it came to other cases. You could not even tell why you thought you needed to act out an entire scene. It felt like the right decision at the time.
“Malcolm? Come over here.” Gil decided to let you rest for tonight but he sure as hell would teach you a lesson tomorrow. He could not have another person risking everything & acting irresponsible. He already had Malcolm. No need to have another one like him.
“(Y/N)? Oh, thank God.” Malcolm came jogging over to where you & Gil were. A small smile started forming, signaling that you were fine.
“Take her home with you. She shouldn’t be alone tonight.” & with that he left you & Malcolm alone.
Two hands came into view & you let yourself be pulled up into a standing position. Malcolm still held onto you since your legs were on the verge of giving out. After a few seconds, though, you felt steady enough & thanked him for helping you. Without another word, he took your hand in his & dragged you outside to his car. Any other day, you would have blushed like crazy but your exhaustion was overpowering your crush. Malcolm opened the passenger side for you & helped you in. Then, he got around to the driver’s side. His body turned towards you & when you noticed that the car still had not been started, you found Malcolm staring at you. Your eyebrows shot up in confusion. After a long pause & a deep breath of his, Malcolm’s voice broke the silence in the car.
“That was-“
“Stupid, I know. Gil already told me.” usually, you would have sounded sarcastic but tonight, you did not have the strength to try & act like you were fine. Because if you were honest, everything that had happened got you thinking. Not that you could have died but everything that had happened with your parents. How awful they treated you. How abusive they were. Not trying to start another conversation, Malcolm started the engine & drove up to his apartment. Gil’s order, after all. Though, he had to admit that he liked the idea of you being close to him. Hell, he could have lost you today. He could have lost you & you still had no idea about his feelings for you. Simply because he was too much of a coward when push came to shove.
The car ride was silent & the tension could have been cut with a knife. Once or twice you almost started talking, wanting to explain yourself. Why you were so exhausted. It was not the first time you got close to death but it was certainly the first time where your past came catching up. Each time, though, you chickened out.
“I’m sorry.” it was you who spoke up first when you entered Malcolm’s apartment.
“What for?” Malcolm turned his focus back to you.
“I made this case unnecessarily hard for you guys. I should’ve handled it better. It’s just…this thing with this fake phone call, it was…fuck, how do I say this?” the last part you mumbled to yourself but when Malcolm spoke up again, you knew he had heard you.
“It’s okay. Gil told me about your parents. I get it, I do. I probably would’ve done the same thing & then it would’ve been you & Gil telling me I was stupid.” you chuckled lightly & Malcolm was happy that you were not mad at him for knowing about your past. He had been aware of your struggles before, now he could finally tell where they were coming from.
Strangely, you felt a weight lifted off your shoulders, now that Malcolm knew. At least you knew he would never judge you, he had his own…familial issues after all. Tears started forming in your eyes & you tried blinking them away angrily, frustrated that you were losing it now even though the situation had been dealt with.
“Come here.” Malcolm opened his arms & you gladly accepted the invitation. Throwing yourself onto him like your life depended on it. His arms wrapped strongly around you. Not in an uncomfortable way, more like in a comforting way. The two of you simply stood in the middle of his apartment, not saying anything, he let you cry it all out & in that moment, it was all you needed.
“Thank you. Sorry for messing up your shirt.” a quiet laugh escaped you. It was not much but it was a good start.
“It’s no problem, really. Here, I’ll bring you some clothes to sleep in, I’m sure you don’t wanna sleep in work clothes?” Malcolm opened one of his drawers & grabbed a basic t-shirt & some sweatpants. Not much but definitely way more comfortable than what you were wearing right now. This was not your first time being at Malcolm’s home so you helped yourself & moved into his bathroom to take a quick shower & change into his clothes. It only took you about ten minutes, you were craving sleep.
“You can take the bed, I’ll sleep on the couch.” Malcolm was setting up his couch to sleep on when you came out of the bathroom.
“Nope, forget it. I wont let you take that couch.” you argued.
“Hey, it’s a comfortable couch!” he defended his way too expensive piece of furniture.
“What about your restraints?”
“Don’t need them when you’re around.” Malcolm let slip without much thought. Only when you tilted your head & raised your eyebrows did he realize what he had just said. “I mean…I don’t know. I’m usually much calmer when I’m with you.” It was funny to see Malcolm trying to explain himself. He was embarrassed but you were putting a stop to it right away.
“Okay, so I guess it would help even more when you’re right next to me, am I right? Your bed is big enough, Mal.” your sweet smile was convincing enough & soon you found yourself laying on one side of the bed while Malcolm was occupying the other.
For a few minutes, neither of you moved or said anything. The silence was not uncomfortable, the situation was still new for the both of you. Yet, you knew what you wanted. What you needed. So you grabbed one of Malcolm’s hands, turned around & let his arm fall around your waist. This action caught him off guard but he relaxed into the new position quickly. While the both of you still had not confessed, this felt like a step into the right direction. You felt safe in his embrace & knew you could be your true self with him. No hiding whatsoever. That thought made you smile. Exhaustion soon took over but the last words you heard before falling into a peaceful slumber were: Sleep well, (Y/N). I’ve got you. Afterwards, he pressed a light kiss on your shoulder & fell asleep himself. Tonight, your struggles could be forgotten. At least for a few hours until morning came around. Then, you still had enough time to deal with whatever was happening between you & Malcolm. Tomorrow, you could deal with your past some more. But right now, all you wanted was to have a peaceful night & Malcolm could give you just that.

FFXIVWrite 2019 #9 - Hesitate
Small warning for discussion of a transphobic family member, and family abandonment.
The women were out hunting. There weren't any young ones to leave behind these days, so all he had to worry about was Uncle and a few 'bos that wouldn't rustle from the presence of an old family member. Kadin watched the camp to make sure the old man was dozing. Uncle was a kind man, the kindest out of all of them except Pelhi, sometimes, but he'd lost his edge since the Calamity. With Auntie and the twins gone, he only had the youngest to look after, and she was grown now. Ma made a point to constantly complain about men who outstayed their welcome. Keeping him on to watch the camp was pity for Auntie, mostly.
Light feet and a lock pick: his family's stores of gil were quickly liberated. Kadin left the potions - Uncle's bones hurt sometimes after all, but took some poisons, a spear, a knife. The good stuff was out with the hunting party, but these might sell to a crafter for scraps, and while he fought more with his hands these days, it was never amiss to have something pointy to hunt with, 'less you liked your meat pre-tenderized.
He heard the pull of a bowstring as he thought he made a fair enough exit. Tensed, shouldn't have, but arrows that effect on him these days. There wasn't the buzz and whir of the arrow loosing, so he turned around, hands up.
"--You."
He was grateful, then, that Uncle didn't say that name, the one his mother gave him. Almost as grateful as he was that Uncle didn't shoot him. He didn't look so old and frail at that moment, arrow ready. He had been a fine hunter on his own for many years and always kept camp safe. Kadin's greed and fond memories of the man blinded him from that truth. He’d wanted the revenge, the gil. He hadn’t considered he might face this option.
"I figured you'd be too tough to lose to a poison arrow. Pelhi finally told me what happened, that they left you, but you'd dragged your arse from the site suns ago by the time we went back for you."
For many years Kadin pretended the man was his father, but all his kin had fire-red hair. ‘Sides Ma said his father had been a fellow from the Swamps in Abania. And Uncle was been devoted to Ma's sister, an unusual man, stuck around to give her many daughters. Still, he was as close as Kadin ever had to a Pa, taught Kadin not only the mending and cooking but extra secrets of hunting and survival from when he lived on his own.
"You went back for me?"
"Had to do it in secret. Balikh's already said her prayer and moved on from you."
"And you, Uncle?"
"Proud you lived through it. I s'pose you're not taking that sack of gil to count as a favor to us.” Uncle laughed. “I should shoot you, you know. Don't know why I'm hesitatin'. You’re a thief."
Kadin swallowed. "We're all thieves, Uncle, 'cording to some. So what's wrong with stealin' from thieves?"
"Balikh's gonna tan my hide," Uncle warned.
"You're a grown man. She really gonna do that?"
"Never stopped her with you."
Kadin's chest puffed out a little bit. A grown man.
"You know how she is. Never knew leadership nor judgment, just throwin’ her weight around. That’s why Suzhu...” He didn’t falter. He didn’t lower his bow even a little. But Kadin heard the hurt there, knew it. He’d loved Auntie. “If you steal from her, you know, that's the end of it. It'll be open season on your poor arse."
"Guess that's better than bein' dead to them, kinda. Least they know I got one over on 'em. Didn't lay down and die." Kadin bared his teeth. "And they'd have to catch me first. None of them as good with the arrows as you, and I can best 'em, hand-to-hand."
"Suppose you're right 'bout that. So." Despite it, mayhap still mistrusting, or worried about being caught and seen, Uncle didn't lower his weapon. "Who should I say stole our every last coin? Balikh'to?"
“Kadin. I asked for her name, and she didn’t want to give it. Only had the one son and not me, after all. So. Kadin Harrow. 'Cause." Kadin pointed to the spot below his ribs, not that Uncle saw where the arrow went in. "That were harrowin'."
"Bet it were. Get out of here, boy. Or I'll change my mind."
"You could come with me, Uncle. You still hunt. We can pick up Gerdi later."
There was that sadness, gleaming. He could see it in Uncle's pale eyes, the shine of tears of a man too old to change. Or maybe it’s because Gerdi fell into step with Ma and the others, and he didn’t want to leave without her. That was not a conversation they’d get to have. "Gevha'a. You're leavin' the family, after all."
"Gevha'a. Thanks."
Kadin turned to leave. An arrow whizzed past his ear, buried in the wood behind him. The arrow said it clearly: don't turn around. Don't come back.
It was a show of trust that he ran with his back toward the camp.

It’s Goin’ Down Part 2
Tumblr media
Summary: Peter Pans daughter goes to The Isle of the Lost and meets Harry Hook. A month later he moves to Auradon
A/N: Part 1 Prequel slight warning: make out session
It had been a month since Uma and Mals fight and slowly but surely more and more villain kids had joined Auradon Prep. This week it was yours and Dougs turn to great the new students, showing them around and making sure they got their class schedule. Usually the whole process was boring but this week the new student you were assigned was non-other than Harry Hook, the guy you had met during your brief time at the Isle of the Lost. He and his best friend Gil (who was assigned to Doug) had refused to talk about Uma and whether or not they knew where she was but Ben had allowed them to be transferred to Auradon Prep regardless.
You were standing next to Doug smirking as the two stepped out of the limo. While Gil looked around in awe Harrys eyes immediately found yours and he stepped closer. “We meet again love!” He said, taking your hand and placing a small kiss on it.
You looked at him raising an eyebrow, hearing Doug snicker besides you. ‘Weren’t you the one who said it wasn’t over?” You asked innocently. “Are you still mad at me for what I said about your uncle?” You fake pouted.
He let out a small laugh. “It can be forgiven, depends on how you make it up to me.”
You rolled your eyes smiling. “Come on, I have to show you to your dorm and talk to you about your schedule.” You turned around and started walking inside, making sure to sway your hips a little more than usual. He followed you falling into step. “So, I put in the requirements already, history of woodsmen and pirates, safety rules for the internet and remedial goodness 101.” You knew he was rolling his eyes without even looking at him. “I also signed you up for Virtues and Values, Basic Chivalry and Life Skills Without Magic. Thought you could use those.” You smirked.
He stopped walking putting a hand on his heart, fake hurt in his eyes. “I can be chivalrous, I kissed your hand.”
You stopped a few steps ahead of him, turning around just so he could see you roll your eyes before you kept walking. “Also, no weapons allowed in the school so you have to hand over the hook to Fairy Godmother. Or make it less sharp and pointy maybe then she’ll let you keep it.”
‘I am not giving up my hook.” He said, anger in his voice.
You stopped in front of the door to his room. “I don’t make the rules… this time.” You smirked. “This is your room, you’re sharing with Gil.” You handed him a few papers. “This is your schedule and a map to the dorms and school, I’ve marked my room if you need anything,” he smirked at you but you ignored him “better ask me and not Mal, Evie, Carlos or Jay. Your key is inside and I’ll see you tomorrow!” You finished, before he could say anything you turned around and left.
The next day you were walking to your class when you saw Harry and Gil wandering around the corridors, Harry was dragging Gil left and right. You stood for a few seconds watching them trying not to laugh. “Are you two lost?” You finally asked. They both turned around surprised. “You look lost to me.”
You stepped closer taking Gils schedule from his hands. “Gil, Grammar is in the class straight down the hall.” You said handing him back his schedule. You waited for him to leave before turning to Harry, “And you and I have Life Skills without Magic which is that way.” You pointed to your left.
He extended his arm for you to hold and said, “After you princess” in a mocking tone.
You laughed, taking his hand leading him towards your classroom “Look who just came back from Basic Chivalry. But I’m not a princess!”
He ignored you. “Well princess, any boyfriends I have to worry about when coming to your room?” He asked confidently.
You saw what he was doing and decided to play along. “Nope. Wouldn’t Gil be jealous of you sneaking into my room though? He just now got you away from Uma for more than 2 seconds. I’d hate to get in the way of a… budding romance.”
“Gil and I aren’t- “He began but you cut him off by opening the door to your classroom and pushing him inside. He stumbled a little but quickly found his balance as you stepped inside behind him.
You smiled as you saw that everyone else was already seated. “I’m sorry for being late Ms. Merryweather,” you batted your eyelashes innocently “our new student Harry got lost and I had to help him.” You saw Evie and Mal at the back of the class smirking at you a questioning look in their eyes and you winked at them.
Merryweather smiled at you. “Of course, Y/N well done, helping a student in need. Why don’t you take a sit while Harry introduces himself to the class.”
If looks could kill you’d be dead the moment those words reached Harrys ears. Thankfully they didn’t and you walked to your sit trying not to laugh.
“I hear you’ve been spending some time with Harry Hook.” Bens voice caused you to look up from the homework you were doing on your bed. You rolled off and went to sit on your couch. Perks of being the kings’ aunt, you got a single room, twice the size of the normal ones.
Ben sat next to you clearly waiting for an answer. You sighed, “I was assigned to help him that’s all.”
He didn’t seem to believe you. “Wasn’t it Janes turn?”
You rolled your eyes standing up, you hated sitting in one place for long periods of time. “Carlos surprised her with a date, I covered for her.”
He looked at you amused, “and who gave Carlos the idea of a surprise date?”
You sighed defeated. “Fine, I did. But Carlos is hopeless when it comes to romance I was trying to help.”
Ben smiled, patting the sit next to him. You sat down and he gave you a small smile. “Given the history your fathers share I don’t think you should hang out with him.” Seeing your expression, he continued, placing a hand on your knee, “I’m just saying you should be careful. You always play tough but you wear your heart on your sleeve sometimes. Now I’d love to stay and catch up but I have work to do.” You both stood up and you walked him to your door, he gave you a small kiss on the forehead like he used to when you were little and he was trying to imitate his mom, and left.
“Are you going to listen to him?” Came a voice behind you the moment you closed the door.
You turned around ready to attack but let out a relived sigh when you realized it was just Harry standing outside your window. “Harry wh- what are you doing here?” You asked as he jumped in.
He walked around inspecting your room, “I got bored, what do you guys do for fun around here? You can’t scare people, you can’t steal.”
You rolled your eyes, “We have internet.” You stated, grabbing his hand trying to get him to leave. You didn’t like people coming in your room.
He freed himself from your grip easily continuing to look around. He stopped in front of a picture of you and Ben laughing from when you were 5. You remembered that day like it was yesterday. Rumple had taken a day off from work and for the first time after being named king had stepped foot in Neverland, your father had actually acted nice and Belle had brought food for everyone. You had spent the whole morning teaching Ben how to fly with pixie dust and by lunch you were both a laughing mess. You smiled at the memory and turned to look at Harry, he must have sensed your stare because he turned to you for a second before turning back to the photo. “It must have been nice, growing up here in Auradon.”
“It was and it wasn’t.” You said with a sad smile. “Ben made it better, a lot better. The kids… well their parents didn’t want me here, some even suggested they give me to someone in the Isle to raise me, but my brother, for all his wrongs, forbit it. So I went to school with a bunch of kids that hated me simply because their parents didn’t like my father. A lot of them changed their minds over time, a lot didn’t.” You shrugged. “You can’t please everyone. Not that I helped, I played a lot of pranks on the especially mean ones.” You smiled.
Harry finally turned to look at you. “It wasn’t easy on the Isle either.”
“I never said it was, the others have told us a few things it-“ You began but he cut you off.
“But I had Uma, so I know how you feel about Ben. And I’ll understand if you want to listen to him. He’s right about our fathers and you were right about my uncle. My father still hasn’t forgotten yours for what happened to his brother, for not warning him exactly what the price of the cure was.” He looked at you with sad eyes.
You took his hand in yours, giving it a little squeeze. “Harry, we are not our fathers, no matter how hard we try. Trust me I know!” You said, looking deep into his eyes.
Harry smiled a little and you saw him look down at your lips for a second before looking into your eyes again. You stepped a little closer to him, remembering how you had done the same thing a month ago. “Plus, I’ve never been good at following rules.” You said, your voice as low and seductive as it was then.
You saw him gulp and smirked at the effect you had on him. He closed the gap between you, brushing your cheek with his thumb. “I told you this wasn’t over.” He smiled leaning in and finally kissing you.
Before you knew it he had you pinned against the wall. After what felt like hours of kissing, his mouth moved from your lips to your neck where he started sucking gently. When he was satisfied with what he had done to your neck he moved back to your lips, but you stopped him before things could get any more heated.
“Don’t worry love, I made sure everyone knows to stay away from you!” He said smiling as he placed you back on your feet. “Goodnight love!” He said, walking to the door letting himself out. And just like that you were left alone again.
The next day was a Saturday and you had decided that you would visit Neverland, you left a quick note for Harry explaining why he wouldn’t see you during the weekend, quickly said goodbye to Ben and Mal who were having breakfast together and flew to Neverland. Your dad greeted you happier than usual, after Bens coronation you had gotten used to him being cold towards you, seeing you as a disappointment but still thinking you could be a villain one day.
“I hear you and Hooks son are close.” He said, guiding you towards one of the most secluded areas on the island. You frowned not knowing why he’d decided to bring you there or how he knew about you and Harry. When you didn’t answer he continued. “It will have to stop. He’s a villain but I don’t trust him, and you don’t need any distractions now that I found a new plan to restore our power.”
You looked at him confused. “What? Dad no matter what you’re planning I want no part of it! And I’m definitely not going to stop seeing someone I like, for the first time might I add, just because you don’t like his father.”
You went to leave but he grabbed your hand. “You disappointed me once, you will not do it again.” He said firmly. “And if this plan fails I will have no choice but to go after your precious nephew.”
You gasped, releasing yourself from his hold. “You will not hurt Ben!” You growled.
He smiled, “it’s either him or Hook. It all depends on you and our friend here.” He pointed up.
You hadn’t noticed the cages that were hanging above you until he had pointed them out. They were empty except for one. Imprisoned inside was the girl everyone had been looking for.
Uma.

✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦ ┌─────────┐ ❨Basics❩ └─────────┘ » Name: Seiko Artemis » Name meaning: {Exquisit moon hunter}~~ Seiko is a Japanese word meaning "exquisite" or "success" ("exquisite" is usually written 精巧 from Chinese jīngqiǎo, while the meaning "success" is usually written 成功 from Chinese chénggōng). Artemis [artemis] as a girls' name (also used less generally as boys' name Artemis) is pronounced AR-te-miss. It is of Greek origin. Mythology: name of the Greek goddess of the moon, of hunting, and of chastity, equivalent to the Romans' Diana. The other two virgin goddesses were Hestia, goddess of the hearth, and Athena, goddess of wisdom. Name of the granddaughter of Lady Diana Cooper, perhaps as a tribute to the grandmother. The variant Artemisia is the name of a shrub common in America. It is also the name of the colorful 17th-century Italian painter Artemisia Gentileschi. » Nicknames: sei » Date of birth: March 13 when I first drew her » Zodiac: Pisces – February 19th to March 20th – This is the Light, Revealing the Light of Life Itself. With Pisces you will find a patient, perceptive, spiritual, peace-loving and imaginative person who is considerate and sensitive to the feelings of others. Pisces like to influence others through their compassionate, charitable and imaginative natures, but they are often influenced and vulnerable, because these sensitive personalities of astrology signs absorb the emotions of others easily. One would say they are easily influenced or impressionable. Pisces need to develop more discrimination with people to curb the impressionable nature of those born under this personality of astrology signs. It’s their indecisiveness, timidity, melancholies and feeling they are misunderstood that stands in their way. It gives others the impression they are pessimistic lost souls. Pisces often lack clarity and practicality. This is an artistic, creative and psychic sign with a keen imagination. Often this sign is a dreamer with an unworldly intuitive side. The soul lesson is to learn and accept, "I live my life through accepting what IS." It’s not about changing or fixing. It’s about accepting with compassion without taking on thenegative issues of others. For most Pisces, acquiring wealth is a means to an end rather than an end in itself. Pisceans are devoted parents, and spouses who take very good care of their family and friends. They show compassion, caring and understanding without complaining. The dual fish sign is often a victim of their own choices. Your Piscean child will often have imaginary friends who they converse with regularly. Pisces child may appear clingy or needy because of their strong emotional attachments to family. They need emotional support and love from their family to feel secure. They will excel at whatever they puts their mind to. [C]✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦ [C] the people of Spirafollow the teachings of Yevon. The faith is named after Yu Yevon [ju 'jɛ.vən] (エボン・ジュ, Ebon Ju?), a summonerwho lived in Zanarkand one thousand years ago. Nearly all the peoples of Spira follow the teachings of Yevon, including the Ronso and the Guado (converted during high summoner Braska's Calm by Jyscal Guado and Kelk Ronso as part of Grand Maester Yo Mika's "sub-races appeasement policy."). The Al Bhed are an exception and are viewed as heretics by the autocracy for their use of machina, a practice forbidden by the church. As for the Hypello, whether or not they follow Yevon's teachings is never explored. Yevon draws inspiration from real-world religions, such as Shintoism (practices and temples), Buddhism (iconography and ritualistic disciplines), Islam (pilgrimages) and Catholicism (hierarchical structure and rigid doctrine). A practitioner of the Yevon faith is referred to as a Yevonite. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (i hadn't thought out her past extremely well honestly) Seiko's mom, a Summoner fell in love with a al'bhed. A race who is not accepted by yevon. Forcing to make the choice of no longer being a Summoner or leave the al'bhed man. As a Ex summoner she had Seiko. Obviously couldnt couldnt bare no longer being with the man she chose him and often ridiculed for such a choice. Living in thunderplains bandits often were all over but her parents felt as though they were fine. Then bandits broke in. Seiko was only 9. Her mom had her crawl out a window to go to a inn and Seiko didn't want to leave her mom and dad, leaving her to fall and hurt her leg. Seiko gets a distance away to see the bandits leave catching her home on fire. She lost her family. She then goes to a inn where the inn keeper looks after her. She saves up her allowance while working in the inn to go follow her dreams. Machine faction. Seiko often would invent odd things to travelers who stayed in the inn as her own business and gained gil. She created her own personal hover and went to djose to become a factionist. Her skills were praised...She's a genius. Which sparked jealousy among other Al'bheds. When the machina went haywire the others saw opportunity to get rid of Seiko whom was blamed and due to all the complaints without proof.. Gippal demoted her to dig in bikanel. Oaka the 23rd found the inventor and they traveled together as merchants selling seikos inventions until the debt collectors came. With nothing and no one she had no choice BUT to go to bikanel to dig. ~~while digging she finds a ancient machina which teleported her somewhere else [insert your home here] ┌─────────┐ ❨Theme Song❩ └─────────┘ nomak- moonflow [Seiko's song|https://youtu.be/hKKmly7fbhQ] ✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦✧✦

I’m Good (Uma x reader)
Requested by @serpensangel Request:  Hi, if it isn't too much trouble, could you write a Uma x fem reader where I am the daughter of Shan Yu and me and Uma meet because she heard how tough I was and since girls weren't treated well on the Isle, she wanted to check me out. She finds me fighing against three guys who thought they could rob me and when she see's me win she invites me to her crew. Time goes by and now everyone knows not to mess with me and Uma and we get together after I defend her to Mal and her crew after they try and recruit me. Love your works, sorry this was long. 💖
“So, you must be the daughter of Shan Yu.” You hear a female voice behind you
You turn around from the three guys limp bodies and see the one and only daughter of Ursula. You cross your arms, looking her up and down.
“That’s me. You must be Uma.” You say
“So you have heard of me.” She says
“Everybody knows who you are, same with Harry and Gil. All because of your guys’ rivalry with Mal and them.” You say “Why are you even looking for me?”
“I want to offer you a spot on my crew? Unless you already hang out with Mal and her minions.” She says
“Nope. I prefer to be by myself. Don’t have to worry about stupid feuds, besides, I’m like my dad, we don’t work well with others.” You say
“You seem to work with Harry rather well.” She says
“That’s cause he’s earned my trust when we were little.” You say, with a shrug
“How about you come join him in my most trusted in my crew? I could use another powerful girl up there with me.” She says
You think about it for a few seconds then nod, adding another shrug.
“Why not?” You say
She smiles and motions for you to follow her. You catch up with her in a few long strides and start to walk towards her mother’s shop.
-~-
That was only a few weeks ago, not too long ago. But you were glad you took her offer in.
People have finally stopped messing with you, which you don’t really care, since you were able to defend yourself, but it was nice to have a break.
“Hey Y/N!” You hear from behind you
You turn around, arms over your chest as you come face to face with Mal and her group.
“Yes?” You ask “What do you want?”
“You to join us.” Mal says
“Why would you want me now?” You ask, raising an eyebrow
“We’ve never seen your talent before now.” Mal starts “Don’t waste your talent for that pathetic crew.”
You fix your position and look at all four of them.
“First off, I highly doubt that is true. I know for sure that Jay has seen what I am capable of, cause I have brought him down before. Second off Uma and her crew aren’t pathetic. I think you are the pathetic ones for trying to get me to switch sides.” You start “Thanks for the offer, but I am good right where I’m at.”
With that, you turn on your heel and walk off, towards the shop.
You aren’t paying attention to where you are going until you run into somebody, causing you to look up.
“Uma? What are you doing out here? Aren’t you supposed to be working?” You ask
“I was until I noticed you hadn’t got there, so I came looking for you. Until I saw you with Mal and the others.” She says
“Uma, it wasn’t what it looked like.” You start
“I know. You refused their offer.” She says
“H-how did you know?” You ask
“I overheard.” She says with a shrug
She looks at you, and you smile. Before you can say anything, you pulled her over and placed a kiss on her lips.
“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. You’re the only reason why I told them no.” You say
“Well it’s a good thing that we feel the same.” She says

How does Artemis get along with the Tempest crew? besides Vetra, does she have any particularly good friendships, special things to do with crewmates, etc.?
Artemisis a born diplomat, though she’s still in the “trying to please everyone” stageof her growth. So, she gets on pretty well with just abouteveryone on the Tempest, even if the level of friendliness can sometimes varywidely from person to person.
Shehad an especially rocky start with Cora. Between Artemis feeling frustratedthat Cora knew Alec better than she did and Cora feeling cast aside by Alecchoosing Artemis to be the next Pathfinder, they both had some issues theyneeded to work out with the other. How did they overcome this rocky start?Well, the most amazing thing happened! They talked about it! Such wild timesaboard the Tempest amirite! With all the … mature dialogue and … mutual respectand … benefit of the doubt giving. By the time they face off against theArchon, Cora is a true lieutenant who trusts and supports Artemis, and Artemisleans on Cora for debate and advice.
Fromthe very beginning, however, Artemis got on very well with Liam. She finds hispassion and emotional openness refreshing, especially as she spends more time withthe Initiative directors. Even before the team movie night, they absolutely drinkbeer and MST3K the heck out of bad movies together on a regular basis. The animosity between Liamand Vetra is a source of deep frustration for Artemis, both as the Pathfinderand as a person, and she eventually has to have a stern conversation with bothof them.
Shelikes Peebee, but she also feels unbalanced around her most of the time. She neverquite knows what to expect from her. Will she be whimsical and lighthearted? Will she be hyperfocused and nerding out on the latest thing to catch herattention? Will she be climbing the walls from physical, emotional, and socialclaustrophobia? Once she gets a feel for Peebee’s weather, she learns how toact around her but it takes a little bit before they get to that point. WhenArtemis is feeling spontaneous, she taps Peebee as a kind of divining rod tofind fun/antics/trouble. She’s yet to be disappointed.
Withthe exception of Vetra, Aremis is probably closest to Drack. When he and Keshentrusted her with the secret of Kesh’s brood, she had to pull the “is someonecutting onions in here” line. That’s probably why she was especially troubledby his insistence that he was a relic, useful only for killing as many bad guysas possible before finally kicking off, preferably in the middle of a fight. She worries he’ll do something stupid one day that fulfills that expectation, so shetries to spend time with him on the Tempest doing mundane, domestic things likeprepping ingredients before he starts to cook meals and maintenancing weaponsbetween missions. She doesn’t actually know a lot about guns when she startsout as the Pathfinder, so he has her go through drills and practice taking themapart and putting them back together. By the time she’s facing off against the Archon, she can field strip a weapon in her sleep.
Shealso liked Jaal from the very beginning, even when he was being reticent andaloof. As soon as he stepped foot on the Tempest, she decided, “I’m going to beyour friend and you’re going to like me as much as I like you because we’regoing to be friends. Please be my friend.” Luckily, he drops the tough-guy actpretty quickly after she saves the Moshae and spares the captured angara. Shelikes spending time with him, either talking about where they come from or justdoodling silently while he tries to reverse engineer his latest curiosity.
Artemisadores Suvi unconditionally and could listen to her talk all day long, even ifshe’s reading her dissertation on dirt. She likes both Kallo and Gil, but the friction between them really gets to her. Gil loses major points with her in how brutally heinsists Kallo forget about the team who helped him build the Tempest. She likedGil a lot to begin with, but he had a lot of ground to make up after thatlittle exchange, even if she essentially agreed with his point aboutadaptability. And she likes Lexi, but they do occasionally have theirdisagreements. Partly, Artemis is still hoping to keep everyone happy whileLexi has learned to value dispassionate honesty and directness. I thinkeventually they’ll learn from each other and even the other one out.
Andof course there’s Vetra, and I think it’s fair to say the get along decently :PHer attraction to Vetra was immediate, and the more she got to know her, themore her attraction turned into caring and it wasn’t long before she wassmitten. Their list of extracurricular activities is long and varied :P Whetherit’s sexytimes or playing videogames together or rock climbing in Kadara’sbadlands or spending a lazy morning in bed, they mostly just enjoy each other’scompany.
Thankyou for the ask

It had been a few weeks since the incident at the power plant.  Peri had spent most of her time forgetting the ordeal altogether, throwing herself into her work and focusing on helping her father.  She had almost completely forgotten about the hunter she met that day, until she felt a strong hand on her shoulder as she walked home from her shift at the plant.
Peri looked up to see the hunter from a few weeks ago.
“Hey didn’t you hear me calling you?” he said with a deep growl.
Peri looked back into his amber eyes, frozen in her spot, not expecting to run into him so soon..if at all.
Gladio sighed as he released her shoulder “Sorry…maybe it would have been easier if I knew your name.”
Snapping out of her daze Peri quickly turned around and began to walk away once more when she heard him yell after her again.
“Hey wait hold on!” he said catching up to her.
With an annoyed sigh she stopped in her tracks and turned to him “What?”
“Listen, I know we didn’t meet under the…greatest of circumstances…but your fighting style was impressive.  Were you a hunter before or something?” Gladio began.
Peri narrowed her eyes “Does it look like I’m a hunter?”
“Well I mean I know you work at the power plant and…” Gladio continued but before he could finish Peri huffed and turned away.
Gladio chased after her catching up to her again “Hey wait I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to offend you!”
Peri stopped in her tracks and sighed, turning to face him “What do you want?”
“I know I am clearly not your favorite person in the world right now but you’re a hell of a fighter and…well why don’t we bury the hatchet and let me buy you a drink.” He said to her running his fingers through his long dark hair.
Peri couldn’t help but notice his well defined muscles and intricate tattoo that seemed to wrap around his torso.  She shook the thoughts out of her head and frowned.
“No thanks I’m good.” she said crossing her arms looking away.
Gladio frowned “Why not?  You have work or something?”
“No I…” she began but Gladio cut her off.
“Then you’re free…come on one drink and I’m out of your hair.” Gladio said taking her by the hand and guiding her through the crowded streets.
Peri gasped at his forwardness as she reluctantly followed him through the crowd.  She didn’t have much choice really, the guy had a strong grip.
“Is this your idea of trying to pick up a girl?” she groaned as he continued.
Gladio smirked and looked down at her “Do you want it to be?”
Peri yanked away her hand causing Gladio to stop in his tracks and turn to her.
“Hey, hey come on now…it was just a joke.  I can assure you, I have zero intentions on taking you home after.” Gladio said with a laugh.
Peri narrowed her eyes “Then why are you being so…persistent?”
Gladio sighed and rubbed the back of his neck “Because I know I was being kind of a jerk before and felt guilty about it.  Things have been pretty tough lately and I took some of my own frustrations out on you that day at the plant.  Seeing you again today just made me feel like I needed to make things right.  I promise, after today I will leave you alone.”
Peri looked back at him taken aback by what seemed to be his genuine sincerity and relented “Fine…one drink…that’s all.”
Gladio looked down at her and smiled “Great…I know a great little spot not far from here.”
Peri began to follow him as they continued their journey though Lestallum.  She couldn’t help but notice the familiarity of the area they were in.  Suddenly they were snapped from her thoughts as her attention went back to Gladio.
“My names Gladio by the way.” He said as they continued.
“Uh…ok…” She said looking away from him.
Gladio gave a chuckle “You know this is the part where you tell me yours.”
Peri bit her lip reluctantly before responding “Peri…”
“Well…Peri…we’re here.” he said pointing upwards.
Peri’s looked up, face faltering in horror as she realized where he had taken her.
“It’s kind of out of the way, but it’s a family run place and the bartender knows how to make you feel at home.” Gladio said pointing the the entrance.
Peri gulped as she slowly nodded, repeating the name of the establishment over and over in her head.
He had to bring me to here…of all places…of all the bars in Lestallum he brought me to Frank’s Place.
“What are you waiting for?  Come on, no one in here is going to bite.” Gladio laughed as he pushed her through the doors.
Peri exhaled as she looked around, only a few patrons tonight and luckily no one she knew.  It was then that her eyes made contact with the blonde bartender at the far end of the establishment.  The blonde looked between her and Gladio and gave her a knowing look.
 “Hey Sera!” Gladio waved.
“Hey there big guy…not alone today I see.” Sera said with a smile as they sat down at the bar.
Peri looked between the two and mumbled to herself “Of course those two would know each other…”
Gladio chuckled “Nope, just popping in for a quick drink. I’ll have my usual, and for her…”
“Don’t worry, I know just the thing for your guest.  Be right back.” Sera said with a wink.
As she walked away Gladio turned to her “You know her or something?”
Peri scoffed as she nervously played with the ends of her long brown hair “Something like that…”
Soon Sera returned with their drinks, a pint of Cleinge wheat ale for him and a glass of their homemade rye whiskey for her.
“Huh…didn’t take you for a whiskey kinda girl…” Gladio commented.
Peri rolled her eyes at him “Contrary to popular belief, not all women are into fruity mixed drinks and fine wines.”
Gladio tipped his pint to her “Fair point.”
They sat together in a silence that had become far too comfortable for her liking.  Soon she heard her phone buzz, indicating a new message.  She looked down to see a message from her sister.
Sera: Talk to him already!  What are you waiting for?!?
Peri furiously typed a message back, ignoring the fact that Gladio was watching her intently.
Peri: Will you mind your business please.  If I knew he was bringing me here I would have declined.
“That your boyfriend or something?” Gladio asked curiously.
Peri narrowed her eyes as she put her phone down “No.”
“Do you have a boyfriend?” he retorted.
“That’s a rather personal question don’t you think?” she frowned.
Gladio rubbed the back of his head in defeat “Right…sorry…”
There was silence between then again for a few moments before Gladio spoke up once more.
“So are you originally from Lestallum or…” he said treading lightly.
“Yes.” she answered quickly trying to deflect whatever he was hoping to gain from this meeting.
Gladio nodded “Cool, I’m from Insomnia originally.”
“Let me guess, you came here after the darkness fell right?” Peri spat back.
Gladio gave a small laugh “Something like that.  Why, are you not a fan of the refugees?”
It had been a wide known fact that many of the Lestallum locals had not been fans of the numerous refugees from all over Eos that have taken shelter in their city.
Peri’s eyes narrowed once more at his comment “I hope you’re not accusing me of what I think you are…”
Gladio put his hands up in defense “No, I never through that…just the way you said it I…”
Peri sighed, remembering what her father said about being so closed off towards others.
“I work at the power plant, trust me, I want nothing more than for people to be safe where there is light.” she replied.
And away from the demons she thought to herself.
Gladio sighed in relief and looked up giving her a warm smile.  Peri couldn’t help but be drawn to his amber eyes that seemed to glow in the lighting.
“We’d really be in a bind without you guys.” Gladio finally said.
“Holly runs a tight ship…no room for slip ups when all of Lucis is depending on us.” Peri said sipping her whiskey.
Gladio continued drinking his beer, gulping down the rest before flagging Sera down from the other end of the bar for a refill.
“Want another one?” Gladio asked, not noticing she was still working on her first drink.
“I’m good, you said one drink remember?” she said reminding him.
Gladio chuckled, running his hand through his long dark locks “I did didn’t I.  Most girls would have already gotten me for a third by now.”
Peri looked up at him with a small smirk before sipping on her glass once more “If you haven’t noticed, I’m not most girls.”
“No…your not…” Gladio said in an almost whisper.
Peri quickly looked away, hoping he did notice the slight blush in her cheeks as Sera returned with Gladio’s drink.  When Peri looked back up Sera was giving her a knowing smile as she left.  Soon her phone went off again.
Sera: I think he likes you.
Peri rolled her eyes as she responded.
Peri: Shut up, I’m only here for the free drink.
Sera: That blush you were sporting says otherwise sister.
Peri: The lighting in here is awful.
Peri looked over to see Sera chuckling as she typed a response.
Sera: Right, that’s it, go a head and tell pop’s and see what he thinks.  You better get his number before you leave this bar.
Peri sighed, putting her phone away.
“So how long have you worked at the power plant?” Gladio asked curiously.
“About six years give or take.  I was a hunter for about four years before that…oh shit…” she swore realizing she gave him more information than she wanted to.
Gladio laughed “I knew it!  There was no way an amateur would have moves like that.”
“Yeah, yeah laugh it up.” She said with a sigh.
As Gladio calmed his laughter her turned to her “Where were you based out of?”
Boy he really knows a lot about hunting she thought before responding.
“Here in Lestallum, my father was a hunter when I was growing up.  My twin brother Felix and started hunting when we were teenagers, a quick way to make a few gils you know?” Peri explained.
“Well, most kids I knew just got jobs at fast food restaurants when they needed a quick gil.” Gladio said remembering the prince’s part time job during high school.
“The luxury of living in the Crown City I guess.” Peri said nonchalantly.
“So you just hunted as a part time job?” Gladio said trying to continue the conversation.
“No, once we finished school we moved up to Meldacio to become more seasoned.” she explained.
“So why did you stop?  You have the skills, I am sure you could have been running the joint by now…no disrespect to Dave or anything.” Gladio stated.
Peri was silent for a moment, lost in thought.
Gladio frowned in concern as he watched her get lost in her half finished drink “Hey Peri…are you o…”
Peri’s mind flashed to the memories of long ago that recently have become more of a presence in her life.
Nineteen year old Peri watched in horror as her brother Felix was stabbed by the end of a Magitek Bayonet.  It was supposed to be a simple dualhorn hunt, but it lead them too close to an Imperial base and they were soon overwhelmed by Magitek troopers.
As he laid there gasping for air, she frantically ran to him.
“No…Peri…you…Ollie…you need to gt out of here…leave…me…” Felix struggled to say as she leaned down next to him, holding him in her arms desperately trying to stop the bleeding coming from his chest.
Peri furiously shook her head “No!  I can’t do that!  We just have to get you to Lestallum and…”
“Peri girl, we gotta go…they are sending in reinforcements!” her boyfriend yelled.
Peri looked up “Ollie I can’t just leave him!”
“You…have to…I…could never forgive myself.” Felix gasped out in pain.
“Felix…no…” Peri said now in tears.
Felix coughed up more blood “This…is my choice…tell Sera I love her and to be good for pops…”
“No!  You can tell her yourself!” she cried out.
She felt Ollie tugging on her arm trying to get her to move with him.  It was then she watched as Felix gasped one last time before lying limp in her arms.  In that moment she knew…she knew he was gone.
One would think that watching your own family die in your arms would be enough to stop you from the hunter profession.  But it was an event a year and a half later that finally made her hang up her dog tags for good.
“Hey Peri you ok?” Gladio said shaking her from her thoughts.
She looked up at him in a daze.  Shaking her head she grabbed her glass of half finished whiskey and downed the rest as she got up, pushing her stool in.
As she turned to leave Gladio grabbed her arm “Hey what’s going on…what just happened?”
“I have to go.  Thanks for the drink.” she said emotionless as she bolted from the bar.
Peri swiftly moved through the crowd of people in hopes that he would not follow, hoping that he wouldn’t see the tears that were now clouding her normally sparkling blue eyes.

Gladio quickly finished his beer as he slammed the gil on the bar.  He swiftly got up and began to go after her, making it as far as the street corner before he heard someone call his name.
“Hey!  Wait a minuet!” the voice said.
Gladio turned around to see the bartender Sera running up towards him.
“Gladio right?” she said slightly out of breath.
“Uh…yeah…” He said said just realizing that even though he has been to the tavern several times in recent months, he never actually told the girl his name.
“I wanted to apologize for my sister being kind of weird back there…she doesn’t get out that much and…” Sera began but Gladio cut her off.
 “Wait…sister?” he said confused.
Sera looked up and smiled “Yeah…she’s my older sister.  Lorenzi, Sera Lorenzi.”
Gladio couldn’t help but smirk, now he had her full name “Peri Lorenzi huh.”
“Yup, wait…did you ask her for a drink without knowing her last name?” Sera said crossing her arms.
Gladio held his hands up “Yes, but in my defense, she wasn’t exactly forth coming with information.  It took me long enough to for her to even give me her first name.”
Sera sighed in defeat “That sounds like her alright, she isn’t exactly a social butterfly.”
 “Unlike yourself.” Gladio smirked.
“It’s my job to be.” Sera laughed.
“Can’t argue with that.” Gladio replied folding his arms.
“I just hope what happened today doesn’t detour you from coming back here.  You’re kind of becoming a regular now.” Sera explained.
 “Don’t worry, I’ll be back…trust me…” Gladio said confidently.
Especially now that I know her family runs the joint. He thought to himself.
Sera let out a breath in relief “Thank the Astral's.  Last thing I needed was to tell my pops that we lost a regular customer because Peri was being…well Peri…”
“Well you can tell your pops that he’s got a pretty fine place here.” Gladio said with a smile.
Sera nodded before turning to head back.  Gladio watched as she hesitated for a moment before turning back to him.
“Listen, Peri has been through some pretty awful shit in the past and that has kind of made her closed off and well…you know.  I am sure she will eventually start letting others in again.  I just…well she needs someone like you around so please be patient with her.” Sera said to him.
 Gladio nodded, acknowledging her statement.
“Oh and one more thing…” Sera said holding out her palm to him as if she was waiting for him to hand her something.

Peri groaned into her pillow as she flopped on to her bed.  Why had she agreed to go get a drink with him?  She should have just said no, now who know what he thought.
“Not that it matters anyways…not like I am ever going to see him again.” she mumbled into her pillow.
At that moment she heard her bedroom door slam open.  There was only one other person who could enter a room that way.
“What the hell Peri?!?” Sera said in frustration as she entered the room.
Peri rolled her eyes as she sat up to meet her “What are you talking about?”
“Uh you know exactly what I’m talking about!  How could you just run out on him like that?!?  Do you know how many girls would die to have been in your position?!?” Sera scolded her as she threw off her shoes.
 Peri rolled her eyes “And…”
Sera shook her head “You’re impossible!  He obviously was interested in you.”
“I highly doubt that.” Peri said trying to deflect her comments.
With a sigh Sera sat next to her “You know…I don’t think Ollie would like it if he knew you refused to move on.”
“It’s been over six years…I’ve been moved on sister.” Peri said with a frown.
“Peri…I get it…you guys were engaged, had plans…but at some point you have to realize that living your life in the past isn’t going to allow for you to move forward.” Sera said putting her hand on her leg giving it a squeeze.
Peri rolled her eyes as she got up from her spot “You know, you should really worry about your own life.  I’m fine…I’ve been fine all this time.  Meeting that jerk has only just complicated my life.”
Sera smiled “You mean it’s spiced it up.”
“Shut up.” Peri replied back as she threw the pillow she was holding at her.
Sera giggled “You know, there is nothing wrong with admitting you have some sort of an attraction to him.  Hes tall, dark, hard as a rock muscles, and that tattoo he sports is pretty gnarly.”
Peri gave her a sarcastic laugh “Let me guess, the scars on his face make him look manly and powerful.”
“Hey you said it not me.” Sera said with a smirk.
“If you feel that way why don’t you go after him?” she said trying to brush her off.
“Sorry chica, he’s a nice guy, but not my type.” Sera said with a laugh.
“What isn’t your type?” Peri teased.
Sera then threw the pillow are her in retaliation “Hey!  I take offense to that!”
Peri sighed sitting back down on the edge of her bed “Don’t worry about me Sera…I’m fine, I can take care of myself.”
“I know that…and you have been taking care of everyone else too.  I just want you to be happy you know.” Sera explained.
Peri shook her head “If the day ever comes where there is a guy, trust me you’ll be the first to know.”
“I’m holding you to that.” Sera said as she lied back on the bed so her head was now next to Peri’s.
After a few moments of silence Sera turned to her with a smile “You know…I heard a rumor he was the prince’s body guard back in Insomnia.”
“Sera…I told you already…” Peri said in annoyance.
Sera giggled as the girls attention turned to the vibrating phone on the night stand by the bed they were on.
Peri reluctantly got up from her position and reached for her phone, frowning when she saw a message from an unknown number.
 “Who’s that?” Sera asked curiously.
“I don’t know…” Peri replied as she swiped up to read the text.
Unknown Contact: So, I hear your family runs a local tavern in town.
Peri’s face froze as she read the text, immediately realizing who it was from.  Without thinking she immediately responded back.
Peri:  How did you get this number?
After a few moments they responded back.
Unknown Contact: A little blonde birdie gave it to me.
Peri immediately looked over to see Sera smirking at her from the other end of the bed.
“You gave him my number?” Peri grumbled.
“Well someone had to!  Couldn’t leave the guy hanging after he bought you a drink.” Sera said in defense as
Peri reluctantly responded back to the text.
Peri: I thought you said one drink and you’d be out of my hair.
Unknown Contact: What can I say, I lied.
Peri sighed placing her phone back down on the night stand.
It seemed like no matter what she thought she wanted, it didn’t seem like Gladio would be leaving her life any time soon.
