Mindcrack had many moments of interacting w fandom in a way people basically don't see at all anymore that it's understandable people are surprised and put off that doc "suddenly" said he wanted to read fan fic or whatever.

I mean for one, if you're not watching doc already you should know that tbh hes like on of THE most fandom involved hermits by far imo. Seriously. He's been a huge supporter of fan art no matter (well ya know to an extent) what it is. He commissions fan artists and asks permission for unpaid fan art to be thumbnails in his videos and always credits them in the intro. He's actively taken up 'headcanons' to his skin (goat horns, butterfly wings) or other things ppl draw him in (maid dress). He has talked many times about ships with him and seems generally unbothered and jokes about it.

So in mindcrack days it was not at all uncommon for them to pick up a fan fic to read (at a podcast or something)- which iirc they asked and got permission for (at least some I know of, it has been a while). But they also (mostly) knew about shipping too and talking about it esp in context to when they'd read fics (because yes they did read some ship fics). They had their "that's weird" moments for sure but that was kinda it. And well, back then many of us on our lil Tumblr space did think it was cool because we were excited they interacted with us at all lol...

This isn't to say you can't be uncomfortable!! Of course. Idk if doc has read anything on stream yet but I wouldn't be too worried as I'd also expect him to ask permission (and as fans maybe take openings to remind him to do so).

I think we all know rule number one as a fan is "don't show the cc stuff unless they ask for it". But rule number two in regards to them is "if the cc goes looking it's their fault and their responsibility for what they find". You might still worry about cc reaction despite that and to that I say stop giving a shit. Let go of shame and fear. Anyone can see your public posts. A cc might be looking right and now you'd only get uncomfy if you knew it, but you don't. You'd can't control people and if the cc are an ass about it despite looking for it? Feel free to say something but otherwise shrug it off because it's not your fault. (And if they're enough of an ass stop engaging with them lol). Mcyt (and other similar) are real people fandoms and you gotta remember that. You cannot control this and that's alright that's just how this kind of fandom has to work. So stop worrying about it

this fandom might actually be the worst one I’ve seen!! I flip through a bunch of diff ship accounts bc listen, ship whoever you want, personally I am partial to elucien but I can admit there’s a lot of evidence for other ships as well. I like seeing all art for ALL the ships!! But then today I see a post about how we need Gwyn’s book because she is a victim of SA and it would be great to read a book about her healing journey.

Idk maybe it’s just me but I get annoyed when someone is always reduced down to their SA so I pointed out that Rhys & Lucien also had SA trauma and there has been no healing journey for them?? How are we going to fill an entire book for Gwyn?? Like, Sarah doesn’t seem to delve too much into healing journeys from SA (in ACOTAR at least 🤷🏻‍♀️ idk about other series) and tends to use it as a plot point to create a traumatic background character. SJM doesn't write post-SA healing journeys. Again, you were right.

We've had male and female characters who were SAed, in TOG, Lysandra and Fenrys come to mind, in ACOTAR it's Rhys and Lucien and Gwyn, in CC it was Lidia (similar situation as Rhys/Lucien).

These aren't books for deep exploration of post-SA healing. I am sorry. This is an incredibly tough subject, without a singular answer. SO anything she'd do, wouldn't be taken well. Some will say 'too quick!' others will say 'not quick enough!' and everyone will have an opinion. The only reason Nesta got an extended healing (and not from SA) was because SJM used the same methods she used for her own issues. Working out, meditation, being with friends, balancing the physical and the mental, relying on her SO. Beyond that, all of SJMs 'healing' is training and being in love. Or nothing at all.

Gwynriels cant accept the fact that Gwyn is a secondary character. She is not more important than Emerie, or Mor, or anyone else, who's had terrible trauma. Her main was Nesta. Nesta's healed and Gwyn is secondary to Nesta. Gwyn's healing journey is over. She because stronger mentally and physically, she trained, she reached and conquered her 'mountain'. and that is all she needed to do.

They dont want to understand and accept that no one is interested in an 800 page of Gwyn's post-SA healing journey. Even they aren't. That's the truth. They want her with Azriel. Getting it on, having sex, being mated. They don't want to read any 'healing journey'. They want her going on missions, swinging her sword, being a badass, being with Azriel, having Gwynriel sex and having a normal fantasy heroine book. it's all performative. They just want Gwynriel. Is all.

this is less a tutorial and more a semi in-depth explanation on my process while taking screenies. my do’s and don’ts about lightning, angles, text/dialogue, close-ups and other!

as a disclaimer, anyone is free to take their screenies however they want and this is just my personal preference and opinions ♡ everything is under the cut! i did say its LONG so dont say i didnt warn u 😳

i use the nobluv2 and noglo mods by luumia! i recommend them 100000%

1. lightning

with its exceptions, this being i’m in a room with candles/chandelier/anything that doesnt naturally produce a white light OR ambiance reasons, my setting with screenies is with the ‘Neutral White’ color. this is for me, more visually appealing than just bathing your sim in yellow light.

i usually test my lightning before i actually take any screenies so my sim is well-lit but also preventing overexposure bc of the lighting. an example of overexposure is when for example the lighting is SO strong, your sim looks like its ‘shining’

you can see it here on her chest highlights, her arm and her cheeks. i exaggerated it here so its more obvious. fixing overexposure is HARDER than upping the brightness in a poor-lit screenshot. overexposure and makin sims look like they are SHINING is a crime. JAIL

the best light ever tbh. just dont get... to carried away

1.2 outdoor lightning

this is one a bit trickier depending on your location but USUALLY your screenies would look well dark. again, test lightning before actually shooting screenies! i generally look for a lamp posts that have good lightning and shrink them down so if im taking angled shots, it doesnt get in the way. change the color to neutral white and if its too much lightning, just lower the dimmer:

in general, you can ZOOM to the max, and with the scroll-wheel zoom out THREE TIMES. four times we on the edge but its still acceptable. five times and you are goin to JAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

in general i also recommend having a semi-big room so you can move around without any problems. small rooms DO work but chances are while moving around you’re either going to go outside the room, run into a plant in the shot or into another decor item.

for example, this is a ‘small’ room. while taking photos i have run into the bookshelves for over the shoulder shots like 8000 times. still, doable, but why put myself thru the suffering>?????

2.2 fill the room

nothin sadder than, for example, doing a bedroom scene and there just being...a bed. the game comes with so much clutter and theres also a lot of clutter cc to make rooms seem more ‘lived in’. its also a lot more visually appealing than the room being empty.

3. angles for screenies

my controversial OPINION!!!! i dont care for FULL surroundings shots for more than for a singular panel. THERE I SAID IT!!! usually i show the surroundings/scene setting in ONE panel and then i move on to other angles. again, has exceptions. these being a banquet, party, ball, another sim joins the scene, montages, etc! ANYWHERE that has something happening with multiple people in general.

for example, i don’t see why repeat the same angle with different poses. i can do it for one panel, but for the next ones? there’s the option of over the shoulder shots,  detail shots, them looking at each other shots, cinammon tography shots........... more than likely your reader already has an idea of where your characters are so showing it in every single panel is not necessary.

always try and leave a lil breathin room for the heads on top so it isnt all CRAMPED! but this all depends on the pose, if theres a height difference included in said poses and the angle you are taking the screenshot from!

same thing about not just doing...full on surrounding shots for when something is HAPPENING. say, someone is fainting, collapsing...ANYTHIN!! theres so many shot options than just repeating the same angle over and over again. DONT BE SHY!!!! DO VARIETY !!!

we in photography class now. BUT yes keep these in mind ALSO while taking photos so it isnt just the same angle, same distance just different pose. your sim has a nice outfit? showing it once is enough! every panel? ummmm......... your sim is crying?  do a medium close up/medium shot and not a full body shot!

3.1 close ups

your close ups and ALL screenies in general, don’t have to be FRONTAL only. they can be right/left side, a lil angled...

waist/chest level is a good level for a close-up sim wise since if you ZOOM in too much WELL

4. text/dialogue

i’d recommend any SANS-SERIF fonts. serif fonts are so hard to read even if nice looking. usually a font-size of over 40px+ works and you can add outside stroke and even drop shadow!

i personally use calibri (bold italic) for my screenies, but other subtitle fonts like arial, myriad pro, helvetica...really any sans-serif ones work.

i also wouldn’t recommend putting 4000 word paragraphs in ONE screenie because it’s just visually exhausting. the MAXIMUM i’d do and thats if ABSOLUTELY necessary is FOUR!!!! lines of text. id keep it to three ONLY and thats if your text is the same size as mine. if bigger then two 😳

another no-no for readability is INSIDE stroke or adding bevel/emboss to the text. pick bright, contrasting colors to the background or even clothes your characters are wearing so it’s not hard to read.

something a lil extra i also recommend is if your dialogue has different sentences and one ends and another one starts in the same line, continue it on another line. DOES THIS MAKE SENSE ok lets see:

the “Yes, maybe I went on [...]” continues on the first line, but to make it a bit easier to read just press enter and move it to the second line so it’s on it’s own line.

same thing for the "Be nice or [...]” line! it gets cut off to the third line anyways, so just put it in a singular line. final result:

for me, this is easier to read, less I GUESS ‘immersion breaking’  and easier on the eyes too.

and just other quick things to keep in mind:

will the post be horizontal or vertical? if its vertical, you have to angle and move the camera around keeping in mind you’re going to crop it later. yes, the scenary might be nice if its horizontal, but a lil vertical photo is cute!

best times for OUTDOOR lightning photos are 2pm-4pm. morning light is a bit too dark, 12 pm is the slightest too bright, but 2pm-4pm is just ENOUGH!!!

Hi! I moved here cause I can’t get a lick of sense from the people on bird app. Idk how to feel about this shitshow that I just witnessed. I just remembered there were more reasons as to why that person was banned. That person initially harassed a member of 5up’s community in which the mod defended. So the group disliked the mod too and continued to shit on them privately and publicly.

Next, thirst tweets can be funny to some. But others find it really uncomfortable which is understandable. They have made suggestive remarks about the pink man and even steve before (that peeps overlooked) but it’s not like the cc themselves are bothered (?). So idk even anymore.

I’m don’t know if I’m making any sense. I’m sorry for the spam ;( This is just the first time I just felt genuinely anxious seeing all the things said about 5up so I word vomited here.

overnight, it became clear that the nsfw part of the issue is not really an issue, besides being the recurrent meme for this situation. i read from various people that 5up explicitly said that he didn’t have a problem with the nsfw tweets when discussing this with the mods, but that he took that decision based on the harassment, which. ok another can of worms. to me, the thing is... smart fandom behavior is to always push away the things that you don’t wanna see. so nsfw jokes/tweets might be not of your liking. what should you do? the correct answer is, unfollow/mute/block the people that make them, and in general every person that you wouldn’t wanna share the fandom with. that’s to me the only way you can genuinely enjoy fandom as intended lol. but there are cases in which we do not take the smartest option. and we somehow make this our problem, which is the most typical case of twitter entitlement, that reads like “you’ve posted something i don’t like. Prepare To Die.”

when i saw the tweet pictured above in the thread, i was like ooooooooooh so this is just. typical twitter drama. which already highlights the entire issue with this... this is just twitter drama. why is twitch involved? how did the person get banned in both of 5up’s channels? if it were for twitter drama, or this person tweeted something i don’t like!, i’m sure hundreds of people would be arbitrarily banned. so that’s why it’s handled differently on twitch. now, i don’t know jasfer, like i’ve never talked to the guy, but i’m familiar with him. as someone who’s been a fan of 5up for like a year now, i know he’s been here from the start and he’s also a beloved chat member and person in the twitter portion of the fandom. it feels like insult to injury because it wasn’t that jasfer had a bad reputation in 5up’s chat or a bad relationship with most people in it. it’s just... such shitty luck on their part tbh lol

imagine if it were anybody else, like, two randoms on twitter. the best outcome to that would probably be an eventual block on both sides so they just stop talking about it all the time, right? except that this didn’t happen here because one of them happened to be a mod for a chat that the other person frequented. i think by now you know i don’t agree with the decision at all, then.

thing is, i can understand everyone’s sides and empathize with everyone. i understand why 5up stood up by his mods, i understand why the mod was anxious/felt targeted and resorted to this option, i understand jasfer’s anger/sadness from the outcome of the situation. but i’d still side with jasfer, nonetheless, because he’s the only one with no power here. the most that he can do is bring attention to what happened, but he can’t unban himself, or return in other account and expect everything to go well, etc. and it’s like, urgh. like if i was on their place i would be genuinely devastated lol.

now, i could be talking completely out of my ass, right? because i don’t know what really happened. maybe jasfer genuinely did incredibly shitty things and corralled the mod team and 5up into taking that drastic decision. but that’s just another part of the whole twitter drama of it all, isn’t it? see, when i was more active in twitter (in another fandom), if you didn’t like someone/something you’d talk shit about them in your rant. that’s how it went, and everybody did the same. in that part, i can understand how things grew out of proportion, but again, does anyone know what really happened besides the mods and jasfer? not really. and it’s hard to take a real stance because the whole thing happened on private twitter accounts. which yet again highlights how bad of a decision banning jasfer from both 5up twitch channels was, because, how are we ever gonna know if it was deserved? jasfer didn’t do anything wrong in chat, which is what should matter. and if the so called harassment (that we have to take 5up’s word for it!) happened in private rant accounts... is. is it really harassment? or like, was it just a case of people being (understandably) reactionary and doing what everyone else usually does in twitter dot com?

and the fact that the mod liked this tweet afterwards... isn’t that just incredibly petty? celebrating a personal victory after banning someone that has no say in the matter? jasfer said they tried contacting 5up through discord, and only made the thread days later because they never got a response. so it’s clear that 5up (understandably!) took their mods’ side and was loyal to them, but it came at the cost of what could’ve been a smarter, better decision for everyone involved. but now, because jasfer was left with no tools other than bring attention to his side of the story, twitter blew it out of proportion and everyone is very kindly sending dead threats to everybody involved.

sigh. it’s just... a big mix of terrible luck and bad choices. i usually agree with 5up when it comes to twitter stuff, but making it seem like he’s going against everyone is ignoring the fact that some twitter drama should’ve never made it to his twitch channel(s) anyways, and that a better decision should’ve been taken. now it’s just the worst of both worlds and no one got anything good out of it. like, arguably, the mod got what they wanted, but also got multiple death threats too. i doubt there’s any chance of jasfer ever coming back to 5up’s chat, at least not in the way it was before. because of the twitter thread including sapnap and this being a bad decision in general, a bigger audience now regards 5up badly and this will probably be a passing mention in the eventual cancelling 5up thread when twitter gets boring enough. like, meh. it’s just a mess to watch and it’s just depressing from every angle.

okay hi yes im happy to talk about this but i think i should preface with two things:

1) even tho it may seem like im biased towards him or being very defensive of him im actually a super casual karl viewer and the only reason i am super defensive of him sometimes is bc we act a lot alike irl and that is mainly because of our neurodivegency. when i say a lot i mean we share traits like "annoying" stimming (jumping around, making loud noises, repeating the same phrases until everyone is sick of hearing them), the difficulty reading situations, the very obvious issues with volume control and not just bouncing from subject to subject to subject as we fucking please. basically anything you've seen karl do on stream that is Very Neurodivergent ive done the same in my own way which is why i get defensive when i see people calling him annoying or saying they dont like him, usually for these types of reasons. that being said, when i say im a very casual karl viewer, i fucking mean it. i usually only watch him when he's streaming with other ccs i like or when he's doing chill alt streams bc even with the annoying donos, he's pretty relaxing and comforting when he's just fucking around by himself and he isnt trying to get as hype as he would on a main channel stream. so yeah, it may seem like im biased and sure, i guess i am on some level, but it's not coming from a place of me hyperfixating on him or me even loving him as a cc, it's coming from me being a neurodivergent who likes him just enough to get upset when i see people basically being casually ableist towards him.

so basically the problems started with mr beast being apart of a charity stream that donated either to autism speaks or to a similar company, im unsure on that part. im also unsure on if the people participating in the stream actually knew of this or not bc, from what i remember, the money was being donated to a separate organization that was like. under the bad company or some shit like that, idk how stuff like that works and also i read about this shit months ago bc this originally happened months ago and just sorta came to a head recently.

anyways, i think karl was supposed to be apart of this stream but pulled out of it right before (that or these were two separate streams and karl was supposed to participate in the first but pulled out while mr beast did both?? idk. regardless karl did not actually participate, just mr beast). from there people started doing the guilt from association bullshit they always do, this was also doubled by the fact that the chris being racist stuff came out sometime around then and basically he got dragged all over twitter for "being ableist" and "supporting racists" and i cant remember if he actually apologized when this originally happened or not. i vaguely remember him apologizing about something back then but i genuinely dont know if it was this or something else.

basically that died down eventually, a good chunk of people unstanned him but him and honktwt didnt end up getting the lovely lil technotwt treatment and they still havent yet, surprisingly. good for them honestly ajsksk

but now we get to the past few weeks and apparently something happened with him "laughing at someone saying the r slur" (it was mizkif, i believe), specifically when it was directed at other people, which is a big yikes, obviously, but when karl was called out for this a lot of people kind of. made this into a situation that it wasnt bc um. basically karl didnt laugh at it, he gave a few nervous giggles, as people often do when in a situation like that (and karl specifically said he does this in the one part of his apology tweet which i did stumble upon, although it wasnt the important part of the apology thread bc why would it be) and people fucking crucified him for it. they quite literally dragged a neurodivergent man for supposedly "laughing at the r slur" when he can literally reclaim it and also he was just nervous laughing.

and this is where the situation just gets really bad because they. basically forced him to admit that he was autistic on his priv to apologize for this. i havent seen the screenshots of him saying this, but i saw people discussing it and i am frankly so fucking pissed about this because sure, it was a bad situation, and i understand people wanting an explanation, but an apology? for a neurodivergent man nervous laughing at a slur he can reclaim? and then forcing the man to admit something he literally said in that tweet he didnt want people to know which is why people were being so gatekeepy about it while also LOUDLY discussing the situation, as if that wouldnt drive MORE PEOPLE to look for screenshots and ways to get ahold of this information? and then people had the audacity to call it a "bad apology" when they had quite literally just violated his privacy by forcing him to admit something that he shouldnt have needed to share in the first place if he didnt want to, which he didnt.

and this is why im so pissed off. karl is already constantly picked at and made fun of and called annoying for his neurodivergent traits, things which he literally cant help, things which are generally harmless, and now he was forced into a situation where he can now be further picked at and made fun of and called annoying bc they forced him to admit something private instead of just understanding and accepting that he had been nervous laughing at someone using a slur he has definetly been called for his neurodivergency.

tldr of my thoughts: yes i think karl needed to address this situation, it definetly looked bad, but twitter stans have this sense of entitlement with their ccs and because of that, they consistently take it way too far and harm the people they claim to care about so dearly. we've seen it happen time and time again with dream, but this is the first time ive seen them basically force someone to out themselves to make their apology "valid" and most of them still seem to not want to accept it anyways, which just makes me feel bad for him bc now that info is out their and people are just disregarding it to continue "holding him accountable".

Okay so let's begin with a few things so we are on the same page:

-> I've been in this fandom since September last year and I've been a fan of c!Dream since the beginning of my dsmp journey basically

-> the term 'apologist' for me is flawed, but I use it, because it's the one the fandom settled on

-> I don't think anyone should have to 'give you their reasoning' for liking a character, but as I said - I wanted to make this post anyway, so here we are :)

Why do I like c!Dream?

Well at first it was my bias to cc!Dream. He was the one whose content introduced me to the Dream SMP. He was funny and I liked him. Please note that back then the rift between 'apologists' for various characters wasn't as big - anyone could like anyone they wanted to. I wasn't as involved with the fandom as I am now as well - so it wasn't anything weird to me.

Then I watched the vods of the revolution war and was like 'Wait those L'Manburg guys are actually in the wrong here! they just came in, tried to have a monopoly, got mad when the people living there didn't like it when they tried to have a piece of land no one else could live in and then started a war and made c!Dream the bad guy. I actually don't like them!' Of course I am talking about the characters here! I have no problem with the ccs :D

So I stuck with c!Dream and his story - I started getting involved with the fandom, found the people that liked c!Dream as well and started reading analysis made by them. I began to understand his character a bit more beyond 'oh he is fun and also played by a cc I like!'.

Now I follow his story as a character that is interesting - he has a clear goal and believes any action that is taken by him to accomplish this goal is justifiable. He is ruthless. But he also cares so much.

And that just makes him so... human! He wants to protect c!George and that blows up in his face - he is told he 'doesn't care about him. And that breaks his heart, no matter how much he doesn't want to show it.

He is badass - he blew up a country that I didn't really like anyway, so it was fun to watch it burn tbh :D

He is a tragic character. No one stays by his side at the end. Everyone is against him (from what we know now ofc). He is so sad and pathetic and alone in the prison, which makes a perfect material for angst which I love writing!

And he is complex! His story is just very interesting to me - he began as a caring person, someone that tried to always help others (see: c!Dream and c!Sapnap rebuilding c!Tubbo's house), then the war happened and he won. Then Pogtopia. He tried to stay on the 'good guys side' this time. But he changed the sides suddenly! Now we know the reason was the revival book, but back then it was interesting to speculate what made him switch! And then the exile happened - he was doing horrific stuff and no one is trying to justify that, but it is interesting to speculate on why. Why did he do it? Why did he think it was necessary? What pushed him to do those stuff?

And then the prison arc!! Omg I love the prison arc so much!!

We saw c!Dream defeated, sitting in that cell alone, trying to get any human contact by throwing his only source of entertainment into lava to have a few seconds of talk with c!Sam. We saw him beginning to break - for example during c!Bad's visit or during c!Sapnap's visit. Can you imagine how much it must have hurt to hear his brother say he is going to kill him?! c!Dream makes me so sad :(

And then c!Quackity started his visits... Please tell me how I'm supposed to look at the broken man calling his torturer 'Sir' and cowering before him and not feel bad for him.

And then c!Techno came and we saw c!Dream starting to get better again! He laughed! He accepted being called a friend! :D

Also can you imagine how amazing of a character arc c!Dream is going to have if the redemption arc comes? From a peaceful person, happy to help anyone, but ready to defend him lands, to a bad person, someone that thought he had no other choice and didn't care about who he hurt (even himself) to a person just... tired of it all? someone who finally understands that attachments are not weaknesses? that they can help? that it's okay to rely on others?

I am so sorry it got so long ^^' I think this turned into a ramble about how much I love c!Dream ashhashas Sorry about that!

The TL;DR answer to your question Anon would be:

I am a c!Dream apologist, because I find his character fascinating. I like uncovering his story through others' povs (and maybe his own lore stream one day? cc!Dream please) and questioning his motivations and beliefs. I think there is more to his character than 'the villain' and I love how cc!Dream plays him! :D

Okay, I'm putting this under a cut for negativity reasons, because I really did get negative

I don't ship this at all, and tbh I think the way I usually see it shipped involves a not insignificant misreading of LXC and often also of LXC's relationship with JGY.

So the thing about LXC is that he is, in many ways, a very private person, or at least private with himself. Here are the people he seems to be close with: LQR, LWJ, presumably LSZ, NMJ, and to some extent NHS. And JGY.

That is, his family, his childhood friend (and his childhood friend's younger brother), aaaaand JGY. And imho the only people on this list he's emotionally intimate with are JGY and LWJ! I don't think he's even friends with JC, in canon. Like, obviously they know each other, but friends? He's kind to JC a few times, he cares about him in the sense he would prefer he not get hurt, but like, that's LXC about most people; there's nothing personal about it. I think probably their strongest emotional connection on LXC's part that JC is co-raising the child JGY is also raising. And JC...like, I guess pre-timeskip he appreciates praise/kindness from a respected authority figure, I guess that's not nothing? But that's kind of the extent of it.

(I do honestly think that if you're going to ship LXC with someone—as a matter of like, canon interpretation, obviously you can grab the characters and do whatever the heck you want with them if that's what you're into?—you should compare how he acts with JGY. Casual touching, the way they're so often in sync, the way he looks at him, the way he seeks him out and we see them together so often, the way he reacts to him, in MDZS the way they're always talking together—like, I think in some ways for CQL people, of whom I am mostly one, LXC meeting MY so early on can form a misleading impression of his character, because he does open right up to MY, but that's actually very specific to MY! It's not how he usually is at all. He's friendly and kind to people, but usually it's basically impersonal, on his part. And I don't think how he is with any other character can compare; certainly not JC!)

Okay, what about post-canon? JC helping LXC move on from his grief, and all that?

This doesn't work for me on a whole bunch of levels, I'll be honest. Like, first, JC isn't interested in LXC or his grief. Jin Ling is his first priority and HO BOY has JL been through a lot. Plus, you know, now he's a Sect Leader. (He's definitely not going to have an easy time—I recommend reading his interaction with SLY post-temple in MDZS, actually. Granted in CQL LWJ becomes CC, and for JL specifically that's probably better than most alternatives, and certainly than NHS). Emotionally, JC is also dealing with WWX having returned, the whole core reveal, and his own complicated feelings about JGY's death. And...JC is enormously competent in many ways, but dealing with complicated emotional tangles isn't I think particularly one of them. Plus as I said in the JC/WQ post, I have a hard time with JC as he is by the end of canon ending up in a solid romantic relationship at all.

And then there's LXC. The man doesn't want to move on from JGY. He may...think he should want to be more functional? But I think that's mostly as far as it goes. He /definitely/ doesn't want to let go of JGY and start a relationship with someone new; I want to say to idea would horrify him but tbh I don't think it's even plausible enough for him to be horrified about.

But even beyond that, I really do think that LXC is just simply not interested in having any kind of actual personal relationship with almost anyone. He's a lot like LWJ in this, I think, it's just less obvious with him because he is also friendly, kind, and social. After JGY's death I can /maybe/ imagine him making a connection with someone who—it would have to be not just grieves JGY but grieves some of the same things that LXC does, from a similar angle. But that's kind of it.

I mean, I also think CQL LXC is probably going to kill himself. So, uh, that also complicates things. But even putting that aside.

And they're just...not compatible.

I can see the appeal of both of them recovering, but...I really don't think this way of doing it works with the characters.

Hello! Firstly, thank you!

Before I start I want to mention something: what I'm gonna say has nothing to do with my anger for the Wessa portrait, my disliking of the characters or TID. This is simply an analysis.

Actually, I'm happy you asked me, I would be happy to talk about this. I have been so confused every time i see post like "Wessa are the best parents, they're great" and I'm like ?? that's not true?? They're fine but they're not that great? If some are the best parents, it's Gabrielly.

So, there was one or two scenes in CHOG that bothers me but I just can't remember almost anything right now. There was one scene where Wessa send their kids away if I remember correctly? I will be grateful if anyone knows where it's in the book so I can reread it and do a proper analysis.

But something else important - Lucie. Tbh, I'm not that big fan of her but I do like her. And that scene with her and Will was sweet but...

Short story time: my parents are divorced and my dad goes to England to work and comes back in Bulgaria time to time. Currently, he's there now and we keep in touch. We talk once in one or two weeks. I don't have any problems with him because of this - however he can, he supports me.

Lucie and her parents' relationship feels the same. They're here, they talk, we have sweet scenes, ect. But like, they pay more attention to James - CC has said it herself on tumblr. James is the problematic child and Wessa gives their attention to the child that need it the most and Lucie simply goes with it. But that's just? So sad? And not okay? I can understand Lucie really well because I'm the same for many things.

It's understandable that James gets 65% of their attention and Lucie 35% but that doesn't make it fair.

Another thing that I really want to mention and that isn't about Wessa doing something specific and that's isn't solid argument at all. But when I was reading Nothing but shadows it was painful how I could relate to James and Will's relationships.

When you have an extroverted, funny, charming father who is a social butterfly and you're introverted kid who just wants to read books and don't know how to act so you could look at least a little bit like your dad... I really, really related to James in this story. I'm not gonna blame Will for being himself - I just know exactly how James feels in that story. (However, I'm not analysing bracelet!James because I pretty much pretend James in ChoG doesn't exist.) My point is that being introverted kid with extroverted parent(s) has its real effect on you, even if it's not obvious. (Like I said, not a solid argument at all but it's part of why I don't think Wessa are great parents)

I'm not saying Wessa are bad parents. But the fandom praise them for being the greatest when they? are? not?

EDIT: Something I forgot to mention about Lucie - she hasn't told anyone about her powers. No one. Just Jessie who knows anyway. This is not just about keeping the story with Jessie a secret. But she probably don't feel it as something important enough to tell or like her parents have more serious problems than her new powers. Just a thought.

Agreed with you on the post; I lean towards 'it's all just business babeey' conclusion, and that while they are qbaiting in a sense of using their flirting relationship to drive up the engagement (and therefore profits too), if people are stupid enough to believe it's actually ~real~ and that they have queer rep in DnG or whatever - it's their own fault. Ship to your heart's content but if you become delusional and start dnf truthing on main - I'm not even sorry for you.

Thing is, for whatever reason two guys flirting will always attract new (often young, often queer and often female) audience, even if that initial flirting was just friendly banter and not intended to be bait at all. I don't want CCs to change their behaviour intentionally to avoid that audience, you know? Especially since explicitly saying they're not together changes...pretty much nothing tbh. If Dream or George announced tomorrow that no, they're not together, calm down gays - at best fandom would be like "ya-ya we know", at worst - "omg they're so closeted and afraid of being found out :(". So at this point they might as well ramp it up intentionally and benefit from the whole situation.

Mildly off topic, but what does piss me off is that dnf truthing will literally be based on a.) obvious bait b.) normal behaviour between two friends that was cherry-picked to make it seem like 'dnf are so in love!1!". E.g. the 10 hour calls that they've done to our knowledge, like, 3 times? And that George had with Bad and Sapnap as well so it's not like some Dream-exclusive thing? Fandom ran with it and now whenever Dream and George are not on streams I'll see multiple posts about how "It's all good guys, they are probably on call with each other! it’s one thing to find their relationship cute and to speculate like, for funsies. because that is not something i see any problem with and the vast majority of the people i follow on tumblr seem to fall into this category. a lot of people (young fans on twitter, mostly) just take everything wayyy too fucking seriously and i guess i don’t really have an issue with that either, i just think they might be setting themselves up for disappointment or have an unhealthy attachment to their ship. like, people accuse me of treating dng like fictional characters when i say they queerbait, but then turn around and meticulously analyze george blinking faster when dream starts talking or something as Definitive Proof that they are in love. or they over exaggerate this jealous dream bit which by the way, annoys me to no end.

I just read your post about ccs having a Tumblr account and tbh? I think that we shouldn't say stuff like 'if they're uncomfortable they should just leave'. They are streaming/making videos mainly to make us happy. And if we make them uncomfortable and they openly mention it then we should stop. Sure, they have no right to shame you so it's really just about basic human respect from both sides. And if you're scared that what you post might make them uncomfy then think about what you're posting.

It’s true, though. If they’re uncomfortable they can just leave. Twitter has a fan culture that’s very dedicated to curating itself around CC’s comfort, because that’s where all the CCs hang out, so if a CC sees something they dislike on tumblr they have a place ready for them to go back to where they won’t see that. I won’t say twitter is a safe space for creators, because there’s basically no such thing on the internet, but it’s their natural habitat.

Just because a person or group of people makes things we enjoy, doesn’t mean we’re required to engage with it on their terms. Part of choosing a career as a content creator/influencer means accepting the fact that you’re not going to be able to entirely control how people interact with your content and your persona.

(And I want to emphasize that - content creator is a career. They are streaming and making videos to make us happy, yes, but also to make money. This is their job. They’re not like, free charitable entertainers. They are professionals.)

“Basic human respect” in this situation means keeping a healthy separation between the fandom and the CCs. If we make things that are likely to make the people they’re about uncomfortable, we don’t bring those things into the CC’s space and show it to them, because that would be violating the boundaries of both the CC and the person who made the fanwork. (See: everything that happened with Heat Waves. The fic itself was never a problem, the problem was when people kept showing it to Dream and co. without their or the author’s consent.)

I’m not worried that what I post might make them uncomfortable because I’m posting it on my own blog where I interact exclusively with other fans. I will not take it to their twitter DMs or @s or whatever because that would be a clear violation of boundaries. (And also because I don’t use twitter.) The content that is appropriate here would be inappropriate there. But if a creator decides they want to see what the fans are up to on tumblr, well, then they get to find out what the fans are up to on tumblr. If they see something that upsets them, then they curate their own internet experience like anybody else and stay off of tumblr from then on.

Final points - one, none of this applies to shipping or making suggestive content about real minors. I personally don’t think that’s a thing anyone should do anywhere, whether the kids in question are likely to see it or not. Frankly it upsets me to think about.

Two, and I want to emphasize this, all of this discussion is purely theoretical at this point, because no CCs have said anything to indicate that they are actually uncomfortable with anything that people on tumblr are doing. If Ranboo has in fact seen what we’re up to, he’s completely fine with it. So let’s not go borrowing trouble.

when you joke about george it's all fun and games, we are allowed to say he has no stamina or whatever but you joke one thing about dream be it also his stamina or still relaying on his mom and you almost immediately get anons how "to be fair..." and saying to stop joking and make a big issue about it. when viewers express discomfort about dream's behavior on george's stream you are babying him but the moment you latch onto the fact that george just made woooo as his response to mask releasing and say that george isn't supportive enough it's not babying, it's just defending and caring huh. both are grown men and can talk it out but it seems like george as cc is for some many people immediately associated with fanbase babying him that whenever something happens and we say we didn't like it, the fact that people are just expressing their feelings is completely disregarded and others only see babying george, it's like they lack reading comprehension or just can't distinguish that it's just someone's opinion... in anniversary stream I understood that george probably wanted dream there and I was surprised he wasn't but the chat spamming and asking where he is was so inappropriate and could be stressful but after we can kinda conclude that dream didn't show up for a long time cause of petty reasons you see no one having issues with it, just amused. let's not even start on how we all completely baby dream over not cooking for himself or shopping for himself especially when he moved out and just say he is "💖momma's boy (fond)💖" and treat it as something endearing, he lives with sapnap so they can split chores, he will be 22 years old man soon. and let's not even start with philza, tommy and dream situation, I see people saying how weird philza acted and honestly? my own assumptions aside, philza and dream are not close, I understand people want to think that all 30 members of dsmp are close and like each other but there is small possibility of that tbh, it's not even about liking each other but if they don't interact much then you don't know enough about other ccs, philza is closer to tommy and so it's normal he can misinterpret something dream does or says and act in tommy's defense. people call his behavior weird and such but if philza doesn't like dream? that's fine, there is actually nothing weird about it, it's same situation like being stuck in a group project with classmate you don't spend time with or you just don't get along with. it's not a crime to dislike someone, it's not weird either but some people treat it like the weirdest thing and high offense.

i think it comes down to bias. like, obviously, i'm going to be biased for george. i like him, i stan him, he's my favorite. whatever.

the main point is that this is fine. you're allowed to like one cc over the others! let's face it, the dream smp consists of 30+ members, you're not going to like them all equally no matter how hard you try. and because you like this cc more, you're going to want to defend them against hate or anything negative, as long as you perceive it as something not nice. which, again, isn't fucking babying the cc. most rational people don't go "our cc is perfect, has done nothing wrong, they need to be worshipped everywhere they go, no one can make fun of them, not even lightly, they're being taken advantage of and need the fans to intervene" seriously. it usually ends at saying "hey, i think what this cc did to this other cc was kinda fucked up. but whatever i guess" and then they move on.

dream isn't perfect. there are a lot of times on stream when he does things that can be interpreted as uncomfortable or """mean""" toward george. which again, is fine, NO ONE is perfect and i can acknowledge that even george has his fucked up moments (but the recent "george somehow coerced dream into editing his new video" is NOT one of them, it's stupid and defies all logic). but, because of the bias i mentioned earlier, if someone were to post about it, dream stans wouldn't like it, and thus its morphed into the general idea that anyone who defend george is "babying" him, because a majority of mcyt spaces have people who like dream the most. this is the response to any valid criticism that someone might make about dream now, which is fucking stupid.

anon, you've already hit upon all instances of how this mentality just doesn't make sense, so i won't repeat any of them here. just.... check yourself before you say someone is babying george. don't look at a post that says "i wasn't a fan of what dream did to george here" and jump to the conditioned "oh you're just babying him :( he's a grown ass man they're friends". think , hey, is this actually babying? if the roles were reversed and it was george doing this to dream, would I say the exact same thing?

i learned how to gif under my current method from a tutorial by user @cvmpbell-deactivated20200616​ and um, well, as the mention says, they’ve deactivated. that said, i thought i’d share the information here for anyone who’d like to learn. i’m on photoshop cc 2020 for mac, but tbh as long as you have the timeline function you’re fine. 

you will not require any screencaps or any software other than photoshop for this. (while i personally run my footage through iMovie first to cut out anything i don’t want this is very much not necessary to this process, it just may take longer to get through stuff if you have a huge video file. let’s get started!

just a warning this has a lot of large images in it, you are forewarned. 

so to start you’ve got your video, i don't know what all of the photoshop accepted video formats are, i’m ngl, but i know it’ll take both a .mov and a .mp4. it will not take a .mkv file, but i have recently learned that if you’re also a mac user, you can convert that with vlc player. i think i read that conversion is a lot easier on a pc... but i have no clue so i’m not gonna pretend to know much about that. 

EDIT: if you’re wondering how i get my video, check out THIS sweet anon i answered!

you open photoshop, and once you’ve got your software open you simply go file > open > and select your video footage. open it right up like you would any other document. it takes a few moments depending on your computer speed and how big of a file it is, but once you’ve opened it up, you should have your timeline at the bottom. 

if you don’t see the timeline, you can go up to the menu bar, go to window, then select timeline. you want a video timeline, do not convert it to a frame animation.

now that you have your timeline open, you want to shift your focus over to your layers. you see that little “video group one” folder looking thing, you’re going to go ahead and select that folder. 

and then right click it, and go ahead and hit convert to smart object. 

now it looks like this! it’s a smart object now! 

you can now go ahead and do your cropping for your first gif. go to image > canvas size 

and then you should be able to put in whatever dimensions you want that gif to be. these are mine! yours can be whatever you please

now i’ve got myself a canvas size that i want my gif to be, so i just select my video layer, and utilize control t to move it around and resize the footage so it’s in frame how i want it to be. you can move it around just like any still image. 

now that your image is in the right spot (you can move it later if need be just for now this is done), you can go focus on your timeline to make your gif. 

you’re going to use the blue curser (or whatever color it is for you) to move to the beginning of your gif in the footage. then, you right click the blue part, and in that menu, select ‘set start of work area’.

and then you repeat this step, moving your blue curser to the end of the footage for your desired gif, but this time select ‘set end of work area’. 

now you should have the ‘work area’ selected to only include footage you want for your gif. here’s mine!

now i’d go shift focus into the layer menu, and do whatever sharpening / coloring you’d want for this gif. you can also move the image layer around to make sure you’ve got everything in frame still now that you’ve seen what the whole length of the gif is. (you can use the blue curser to scan through the footage which will become your gif, or use the play triangle but... that moves too slowly for my taste)

note: the coloring doesn’t need to be in a folder, i just like to have mine that way so it stays out of my way in the timeline more. (folders appear smaller than layers in the timeline and every existing layer appears in the timeline)

now you’ve got to go to file > export > save for web. 

make sure you’re exporting as a gif and not as a png!

now just check the size, make sure it’s under 2M for best results to make sure you can use the gif in a post without problems. 

now you hit save and save it as whatever file name you want, wherever you want!

the best part is, now you just go through the rest of your footage, moving the start and end of the work area as described above and exporting the exact same way. just make sure you give each gif a different name of course! 

but yeah anyway, now i have my little gif right here of olivia as elle aka my precious ballerina.
