you are john. it has been, what, like eight or ten months since you sent out the notices about the new round of lyctor trials? you have a weird dream one night and decide, on a whim, to check in on how the trials are going. 

you phone home (its not home, home is gone). no one picks up. thats weird, and kind of concerning, so you go to check. canaan house is empty, even of the constructs you left to act as bodies for the partitioned bit of your soul-conglomerate you left there. there seem to be a lot of weird zombies on various continents. whoops, looks like some of the partitions of your soul-network need to be tuned up. well, you can do that after you figure out where the contestants went. 

an extensive round of investigation later, you land on the ninth. yep, that sure does seem to be the missing contestants. and the canaan house priests. and cytherea is here, for some reason. probably plotting against you. and... oh, annabel, good morning. 

while you are getting stabbed by your cavalier, you cant help but notice that it looks like some of the contestants did, in fact, achieve lyctorhood. but uh, definitely not the way they were supposed to.

how had it become like this? it seemed so unbelievable that there was a point in yoir life where you thought you were going to marry him, have children, and grow old together. if someone would have told you three years ago that you would both end up like this you would have laughed in their face. he used to be so sweet, so passionate about you, but now that couldnt be further from the truth.

you werent really sure when the change happened, or why it happened maybe a little after your birthday, maybe before. of course you knew people grow apart but this wasnt growth. this was borderline misery. the constant fighting, the days of ignoring one another, the nights where chris would come home at 2am and not say a word to you after you had been waiting up for him, it was nothing short of torture.

but still every single time, both of you just let it blow over, waiting until the next bomb went off, but the long lasting was lasting a little too long.

"oh please, like you were actually worries" he scoffed, taking his hat off and throwing it on the kitchen table.

"you stormed out on me, you didnt even tell me where you were, youve been gone for 5 hours and you stroll in at almost 3am expecting me to be cool about it? what fucking planet are you living on" you said staring at him.

he didnt even reply he just shook his head, leaning against the counter and crossing his arms, keeping his eyes trained to the floor. a moment of silence passed as you waited for him to say something, anything, and finally he took a deep breath in and pulled his eyes up to meet yours.

"maybe i just dont wanna fucking be around you" his voice was quiet and soft, a stark contrast to the sharpness of his words. his expression was stoic and completely unreadable.

he watched the colour drain from your face, as he did every time he would bark an insult at you. a small part of him felt nothing but pure joy to know that he had the power to completely crush you, like when murderers say they feel no remorse for the people theyve killed, but another small part of him was bleeding, a self-inflicted stinging, like a pain he had never felt before.

"you know what chris, day by day i realize everything i miss about you was never there in the first place, the person i fell in love with was a fucking mirage." your words were dripping with venom. his face faltered for a second, momentarily letting the mask slip, and the pain your words were causing him beginning to slip out.

"you dont mean that" he looked like he was about to burst into tears, and it made your mouth run dry.

you tried so hard to keep it together, but the tears that had gathered in your waterline threatened to spill with every single Shakey breath you took. there was a pregnant pause and the effect of your words hung in the air. chris stared at you intensely and you let your eyes rest anywhere but on him, you couldnt look at him, at the chance of seeing him with watery eyes and a wobbly lip might make you fall at his feet once more.

you took a deep breath before eventually meeting his gaze and beginning to talk.

"i dont know why things changed chris.... but one day i woke up and we no longer spoke the same language, and i havent heard from you since" chris watched every time as he crushed you, but now as he took your place, standing there with his hands by his sides, mouth hanging open, taking rapid breaths, in and out, while trying not to cry, he felt as though you had murdered him.

"that doesnt mean i dont love you y/n, we can work through this, weve done it before, ill be better i promise i will" he spoke with a wobbly voice.

the tears were now full force streaming down your face. he stood there across the kitchen with wide eyes, trying to think of how to come back from this, but there was something about the way you opened your mouth to speak again, that told him there wasnt.

"i cant relax around you chris, if i relaxed my body now, id fall apart. if i relaxed for a fucking second, id never find my way back. why cant you see that?" you paused for a moment and shook your head at him in disbelief. "why cant you see that you are tearing me limb for limb when i have done nothing but love you? why cant you understand that i have poured all of my heart and soul onto you to try and wash away whatever it is thats made you like this and you are throwing it back in my face? i mean when will this fucking end?" you were yelling and you hadnt even realized you had made your way over to him and were now standing less than a foot away.

"y/n please, dont do this. ill get my shit together and ill be better because i love you" he looked at you with pleading eyes as he spoke, reaching out to grab your hand, but when you pulled away before he even got the chance to even feel your skin on his, it was like he had died right there in that second.

"do you?" you whispered, swallowing thickly, desperately trying to stop the floodgates from opening more.

chriss face was wet with tears as he stared down at you sniffling. he opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. he was completely gob smacked. he never thought it would get to this point. but as your eyes bored into his, wordlessly begging him to say something that would fix this, he felt as though the earth was crumbling beneath his feet.

his silence gave you all the answers that you needed, so with that you turned around and walked away, and the sound of his broken voice calling your name, spoke volumes.

he knew it was over, he knew that you were about to go upstairs and pack your bags and walk out the door, but he didnt do a thing to try and stop you, he knew he wouldnt be able to fix this even if he tried, so he watched you walk away, and the second you were out of sight, he fell to his knees, clutching his chest like he was dying and letting out sob after sob, like it would mend all damage he had done.

in the next room, you were frantically trying to keep your self control. the urge to walk back in there and wipe his tear-stained cheeks and kiss his broken heart better was paralyzing. the sound of him wailing and weeping was soul crushing, but this had to be done, one of you had to be strong enough to walk away.

you knew he would leave such an imprint on you, he had left such severe claw marks that anyone you even entertained after chris, would have to know him in order to understand you, and that might have been the worst fucking part.

finally have some time to respond to this blurb because a LOT was going through that silly boys brain </3

"i'll drive steve home." if steve had had anything to drink, those words wouldve sobered him up immediately.

however, hes stone cold sober as you stand before him, demanding him to argue with you.

he tries. he really does, but you have that glint in your eyes that steve had quickly learned meant youd get your way, no matter what.

for such a sweet and selfless person, you could be frustratingly stubborn sometimes.

steve is about tell you to just leave him alone, this is most eye contact hes made with you since july, but then you grab his hand and it all comes crashing back to steve.

your hand still fits perfectly within his, and for a second steve swears the pads of his fingers tremor when they graze against your palm, as if theyve exhaled with relief upon your touch.

when youve dragged steve outside, the tremors in his fingertips has become so uncomfortable that he has to drop your hand. hes afraid that if he doesnt, his knees will give out. after the shitty night hes had, he cant afford to spare any more of his pride.

steve sees the disappointment on your face when he drops your hand, and he feels the familiar pang in his chest. hes disappointed you again, upset you, but he figures its time hes evened the score anyways.

you hurt him first.

"not to make this awkward, but i kinda dont know where you live." you voice from the drivers seat. your tone is light, steve can hear how much youre trying to tell him without explicitly saying so.

hes tired of everyone treating him like a fucking idiot.

"make a left up here." he responds, staring out the window. he refuses to let you see him cry. nancys words are still ringing in his ears while your perfume clouds his mind.

its all so fucking confusing.

"do you want to talk about what happened tonight-"

steve once admired your selflessness, how open you are with what you feel and how deeply you feel it. then, you closed yourself off from him. shrouded your kindness from him and masked every feeling on your pretty little face without so much of an explanation. now, after finally being confronted with one another, you want to talk about fucking feelings?

yeah, sure. steve can do that.

"why do you only ever care about me when im some kicked fucking puppy?"

steve sees you flinch from the corner of his eye and the anger hes felt ever since july vanishes. "you know thats not true."

"its not?" steve remembers the look on your face that night the two of you saw jonathan in nancys bed. itd been the first time youd shown genuine sympathy towards steve, the first time hes ever truly had your attention.

then he remembers the alley, how youd begged him to not hurt jonathan and hed let his childish anger get the better of him anyways. steve remembers grabbing you and pulling you away from the others so that you wouldnt get hurt by the cops. he had just wanted to help you, and when he told you this he knew you saw the helplessness in his eyes. your lips had trembled as you looked at steve, you had cared about him, then.

you had almost stayed that day in the alley.

but then you left steve to go run after jonathan.

and this summer, steve doesnt know what happened between you and him, but you left again.

"then explain what happened this summer." steve knows himself. he knows that if you can give him any reason, anything, then hed welcome you back into his life with warm and worn arms.

your fingers tighten around the steering wheel. your eyes scan the empty road ahead and steve already knows what youll say. "i..."

nothing. you cant tell him a single fucking thing. delirious and heartbroken, steve laughs. "yeah, whatever. some real fucking friend you were."

and thats what hurts steve the most. you were his friend, you told him this yourself. minutes before you pulled away from him, youd been telling steve how much of a good friend he was.

you knew. he had told you how much hes struggled with connecting with others. you knew, and you still left.

nancy has provoked a different kind of hurt. she doesnt know steves deepest insecurities, or how hard he tries to be good enough for her. sure, steve felt a purpose being loved by her, but she couldnt have known this.

you were different.

and steve just wants to go home.

the silence settles, heavy. you take a shaky breath and steve has to pinch the skin on his arm so he doesnt reach out to hold you. "i got scared."

he cant help it. steve turns to you, your confession surprising him. "scared?"

"yeah, scared."

and just as quickly as youve opened back up to steve, you retreat.

anger rises again. "gee, y/n. that really explains a ton."

"im sorry, steve. i really am. its just... i got scared, ive never been good at letting people in. i know it doesnt excuse my actions, and you didnt deserve any of it, but you just... you scared me."

steve understands what its like to be scared of those around you, of giving someone the power to be vulnerable around them, but after everything thats happened with nancy tonight, he finds that he doesnt care anymore what vulnerability gets him. "turn right after this light."

something changes, then. steve notices your posture straighten, your jaw clenches and your knuckles are white against the steering wheel. theres a newfound spark now, a fight within you. "look, you came crashing into my life in such a violent way, and it became the best goddamn thing that happened to me."

steves heart is pounding against his chest.

your voice shakes still. he knows, he can feel it, just how hard this is for you. "there you were, spending every day at my job just to talk to me. you asked me questions about myself and noticed things no one else had before and i just... i couldnt do it."

a pause, you look over at steve and you soften your voice, lacing it with everything hes wanted from you since july. "i missed you."

i missed you.

steve whispered those words to nancy in the hallway only yesterday, but he knows he really meant them for you.

no ones ever missed him before.

"missed?" when steve was young, he remembers asking his dad if he missed him. missed implied caring for someone at some point, but long after theyve already left. to have missed someone means to have long settled the ache that followed the hurt of leaving.

"miss. i miss you,"

something opens within steves chest. he can feel it, this expanding that slowly overtakes his body. it crawls over him, clouds his brain the same way your perfume does, and steve has to close his eyes as it settles.

he feels like a little kid again, accepting whatever his father gives him.

steve is tired.

but he sees you wipe at your eyes. your hands shake, despite your best attempts of steadying them as you drive, and steve knows he could never, ever remain angry with you.

he recognizes, suddenly, how similar the two of you are. two lonely kids trying to walk everyone home.

ippiki au: minor characters edition

first things first: here look at everyone. dont mind the inconsistency of style, i took a 4 month break in the middle of these okay

and now! lore and stuff will be under the cut to not clog up everything

ill include everyones images a second time before their specific lore just to help keep track of things i hope you dont mind that. also implied vbs event spoilers (specifically for light up the fire) when you get to radder, if thats a concern at all

mizuki- deer. a runaway from an arena with lower security, met ena early into their escaped days and theyve stuck together since. their antler broke while in the arena, and they havent shed yet to grow back evenly. whether the white spots are because of their deer species or the fact that theyre still a teenager or just because of weird hybrid things is up to viewer interpretation (aka i never really settled on a specific type of deer for them). unfortunately the antlers make them pretty visibly trans and they dont really like having them, but at least most other hybrids dont seem to care too much.

ena- mountain lion. grew up in the same lab as akito, and to neither of their knowledge, they are actually related (ena was still somewhat of an older sister figure to him, along with some of the others from his group. they havent seen each other in a few years since ena got taken to an arena. to each other they might as well be dead). not the biggest fan of their current situation, but shes trying to make the best of it.

they live together currently in the undercity, living somewhat steadily off of odd jobs. its not the greatest life, and maybe one day theyd like to leave, but for two teenage girls, its the best theyre managing for now, and it certainly could be a lot worse. they both couldve never escaped their arenas and died there.

haruka- domestic shorthair cat (but often mistaken for being a russian blue... shes just a regular gray cat with blue eyes). an ex-feral (captured as a child) turned show pet with a reputation for her cool charm. while shes taken to this life with relative ease, she misses her home from far outside the city and her childhood best friend who got captured at the same time and separated from her (she cant help but fear that an is probably dead, sent to an arena for her rowdier personality. shed like to hope otherwise, but the odds are against her)... also yes, her outfit mainly looking like her asrun outfit is intentional.

minori- goat. i forgot her sideways pupils here but she has those, just like kohane and luka. a childhood friend of kohanes, raised in the same lab, but was bought as a show pet instead. no one really knows why, besides her enthusiastic personality having its strengths in the idol-like niche of show pets. admires haruka from a distance, but theyve never had a chance to properly meet. maybe one day...

nene- longhaired fold cat x canary. part of a private project attempting to create non mammalian hybrids by balancing them out with known stable hybrids, and shes one of the first semi successful ones. she might have survived to a reasonable age so far, but not without complications. shes prone to occasionally unstable health and has some speech issues, mostly caused by the bird parts of her not mixing well with everything else. the feathers are cute, but at what cost? although being kept in a very restrictive environment isnt doing her any favors either...

technically shes not even a main part of the au! shes got her own side storyline with wxs lol

kotaro- racoon. literally just some guy. from the same town as haruan, but hes just been there the whole time. probably the only character here who hasnt experienced the horrors to some extent. not actually relevant to the au besides like oh he exists he might briefly show up, but i wanted to draw him because i had design ideas

souma- domestic dog, some kind of mutt. suffered a combination of severe injuries throughout his time in an arena and during their escape, leaving him with a nasty mess of scars across his body as well as a mostly paralyzed arm and a noticeable limp. hes trying to stay positive despite that, after all theyre free! but its tough sometimes, he cant help but feel bad that hes slowing down their pace in traveling.

arata- caracal. from the same arena as souma, but escaped much more unscathed, his past injuries are nowhere near as severe. heard stories about the outside world somewhere and is now determined to find somewhere worth living out in the wasteland with souma. hes not exactly friendly to people they cross paths with, but its mostly out of caution to protect both of them.

fun fact i had to redesign soumarata partially because i just wasnt satisfied with their designs (i had made some very early on into the au) and partially because me and my friends realized souma is the taller one (hes like. slightly taller than touya? while arata is only taller than akito) and i had it the other way around before.

nagi- maned wolf. a popular face around town, and one of their most successful participants in various resource gathering missions (it isnt uncommon for hybrid towns to have members who will steal things for their towns from supply trains that go out to human towns in the wasteland and nagi was often a fan of going on those). she liked to get out and explore the wasteland! sometimes shed let an (and less often, haruka as well) tag along with her so they could see more of the world while still supervised, but that led to her own downfall. a mission went wrong, the kids got caught, and she got killed trying to save them.

taiga- tiger (how could i not go for the pun, and also canon did it first anyway). while once a common sight around town, after nagis death hes become a rare visitor, traveling more often than not, only stopping home once in a while. maybe he doesnt want to linger around the feelings left behind now that shes gone. scary and serious, but not out of bad intentions.

ken- fox (just like an). runs a somewhat popular cafe in town, comfortably settled down. he regrets not being there to protect his daughter, but theres nothing to do about it anymore. maybe one day shell come back, but for now, hes got a job to do and thats the most important thing for him to focus on.

nagi and taiga are fully aware that theyre siblings, unlike akito and ena. it was more common for their generation to be aware of this, rather than having knowledge about their origins withheld. they both were in an arena that focused on team fights, and when taigas original teammate was killed, nagi ended up with him, prompting him to help them both escape because he didnt want to let his sister get hurt more than necessary (even though shes capable of taking care of herself in a fight). they met ken (another arena escapee) during their way out of the city, and began traveling as a group of three until they found the town they all called home. their presence was an important part of making that town thrive into the place it is now, even if things for the trio have since fallen apart quite a bit. nagi is gone, taiga rarely sticks around, ken is the only one who stayed now.

meiko- bear. runs a convenience store at night in the undercity near one of the arenas (the one akikoha are in), well known around the area and uses her advantageous shop location to help new escapees get a little more set into their newly freed lives. a kind if intimidating woman, and very reliable at her jobs.

miku- striped hyena. just an average young escapee living in the undercity, although she doesnt try to blend in very well. ever since she got her hands on some hair dye shes been stubbornly sticking to the faded and grown out color, she thinks shes cool with it. friends with a couple humans who seem completely unbothered by her animal traits

luka- ibex. an escapee from the outer city workshops who decided to move to the undercity... and never really settles down anywhere. she likes to wander from place to place, experiencing the great expanse of the city from its depths. shes got her favorite places to come back to, but more than anything, shes always on the move to see something new.

kaito and the kagamines are humans (the kagamines are mikus human friends!) which is why theyre not here 👍

okay so have i told you about what childe did to you after you(or he confessed)? no? what a shame..

but basically after you confessed childe full froze and blah blah blah BUT, not only that but he full on lunged at you while wrapping his arms around your body, his hand on your head to make sure you didn’t injure your head from falling backwards. he nestled himself deep into the crook of your neck while sighing <3

it was kind of an awkward pose but hey, you weren’t complaining ;)

childe then looks at you, he leaned in for a kiss but he made sure to look at your face to see any sign of discomfort but instead he found you leaning in as well

mornings with childe would be a bit peaceful but romantic, if you would even call it that.

he would cling onto you when you’re trying to get out of bed to go get ready but he REFUSES, he wants to sleep in more with you but he knows he can’t as he has scheduled meetings with other streamers so he, in the end always gets up but not without holding your hand or shirt

when he wakes up he has... really bad bed hair but you find it cute because he looks like a baby.

while you’re walking to the bathroom, childe just trails behind you, rubbing his eyes. he’s stumbling as this point, he doesn’t want to wake up!! he’s like half asleep but once you and childe are in the bathroom and you turn on the light he’s fully awake now

you grab your toothbrush and start to brush your teeth, childe is right behind you, arms wrapped around your waist while tired eyes looks at you

smiles <3 always smiles when he’s with you!!

sometimes you have to help him get ready cause he acts like he’s still half asleep though he’s fully awake.

after getting ready and everything, childe is now more awake due to the amount of sunlight that is coming into the house, basically blinding him

oh did you know.. childe would literally make breakfast for you, yeah i know.. can he even cook? absolutely not! but he’ll take cooking lessons just for you <3 he wants you to enjoy the food that he made for you, he makes sure to neatly put it on your plate or bowl, sometimes if he’s feeling lazy he’ll STILL make a meal that is simple yet cute

he would use a sauce or anything to make a smiley face or a love heart and just put it on the dish and man, it gets you every time.

bro is so happy that he’s dating you, he’s like madly in love.

SOOOO clingy towards you, clings onto you like a baby koala but you aren’t complaining as he looks adorable with his cheek being squished by your hips while begging for you to not go

if childe has a meeting with another streamer or just busy over all he makes sure you still get the attention you deserve by sending you little texts, for example: “did you eat babe? if you haven’t make sure to grab some snacks from the pantry! we have LOAAADS of snacks >:)” “i ate some already, but now that you mentioned snacks... might make a little visit to the pantry..”

if you’re a streamer as well then that would kind of work out? even if you’re not a streamer childe will always find a way to make things work out, you and childe would exchange a lot of lovey dovey texts while not busy or anything but childe is relieved that you’re not alone nor lonely as you have other people with you to cheer you up or make your day better(although he likes to do them himself).

dain doesn’t stream until around 11 am -12 pm because he wants to spend the morning with you, normally around 12 pm he would stream.

his streams lasts for about 1-4 hours and if he’s doing a partnership then around 5.

and because he’s busy during these times, you always remind him to eat something or take a break for a while and chat with his viewers, and he really appreciates you for that :(

while he’s streaming you would either watch netflix, make food for dain, read a book and if you’re a streamer, you too would also stream.

sometimes your viewers ask you about dain and how your relationship was with dain and you would always overboard with your answers.

when they asked a simple question, you would answer it, but it was always very detailed, like why dain is amazing and blah blah blah.

dain too, would also remind you to take breaks and eat something <3 it just works out perfectly! how you two won’t be bored of course.

and your and dain’s day would be absolutely great if you both have the same schedule, well, kind of.

but moving on, once dain is finished streaming(and when you finished streaming too) he would come into your room or where ever you are and just lay over you, poor baby is tired. and his ass hurts too, he has been sitting in that darn chair for who knows how long.

most of the time kaeya takes you out to eat but you two normally get swarmed by his fans or people just eyeing you so you both just end up cooking and eating at home.

and when he does take you out... expect fancy restaurants, the MOST expensive food and a lot of shopping.

kaeya hates streaming(sometimes) as it takes away time with you but he always makes sure to spend more time with you when he’s done.

that’s why kaeya takes you to various places. picnics, parks, the movies, aquarium, and etc.

honestly i dont even want to talk about what he does during the night, mostly because you both take night showers.

kaeya will always playfully poke your butt in the shower. no matter what, you either one, shriek and grab your butt while looking at him scared for your life, two, slowly turn around and giving kaeya a death stare, or three, you just continue to wash your body and don’t mind what kaeya just did.

even though showering with one another seems very intimate and sexual, it’s quite the opposite when it comes to kaeya. like sure he may be flirty and all but.. he really doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable so he doesn’t make any suggestive acts.

kaeya helps you to scrub your back if you can’t reach it yourself <3 he helps you wash your hair, apply whatever you need, basically, whatever you ask him, he’ll do it.

and when you both get in the bed and drift off to sleep he’s always hugging you <3 squeezing you tightly every time you move.

one of many ways to get kaeya sleeping is by braiding or just touching his hair, he finds it comforting :(

i definitely understand being sad about losing stream content because stream content has a different feel to it because its live vs youtube where its all pre-recorded. yeah its parasocial but interacting with them even through chat and watching them live feels different. that being said though, i'll be happy as long as they continue to make content and are happy to do so.

people pointed out that sapnap is kinda following what dnf are doing with shifting to prioritizing youtube as george rarely streams and dream as well. and part of him wanting to shift i feel like is because streaming is a lot more social than youtube videos. as in you interact with other ccs and stream with them. theres solo streamers but they still have other they interact with and are friendly with fellow ccs in their circle. its part of networking for their job and unfortunately dteam have been getting slowly pushed out of the community ever since the allegations dropped and it only worsened with the recent situation. i dont mean this in a dooming way, dteam still have cc friends and i know people will come back to them when the public opinion shifts, but for now theyre being shunned especially if you compare it to how they interacted with people pre-allegations. i might be off but i feel like the way theyve been getting pushed out of the community over the years has something to do with their content mindset. its sad if thats the case but at the same time id rather them not be surrounded by people who only want them for clout and will turn in a second if it benefits them more.

Since Raine was a teacher I think once they have Hunter living in their home they would immediately start to notice the signs of abuse. They would probably have issues with Hunter eating the normal amount of food for a kid his age because Belos starved him and also Hunter probably wouldn’t really be a big fan of something like pasta with sauce but wouldn’t say anything because he’s too nervous to make Raine unhappy with him so he doesn’t really eat much despite being underweight.

Hunter would probably go stiff if they put a hand on his shoulder or flinch if they heard them in anyway upset with him.

Hunter would probably take all of Raine’s suggestions on what to do while in the house at orders and carry them out with military precision even if Raine just suggested they watch a cartoon on the crystal ball.

Hunter probably has a lot of nightmares too so Raine would wake up to him screaming in his sleep.

Like Raine had hunter for a short while and the whole time it’s just one terrible revelation of what a monster Belos truly was after another.

i extended on something i wrote months ago in the subject of shinene codependency (and shinaya breakup) but its hidden in a Much longer post under a read more so i wanted to make it into its own post for my kagenalysis tag❤️:

to rant a bit abt the "personal narrative" of shintaro. i think it's interesting that shintaro is essentially a very self centered character and kagepro is very meta in the way it treats him as a main character. because inside of kagepro, he really gets as much focus as any other character, they're all "main" character to us. its rather inside the story he plays a very important role therefore he is the protagonist and as the protagonist he puts an end to the story itself too. i think this is all interesting together and fun to dissect shintaro's character as inherently self centered because that's what the story is. the initial premise is that he's a depressed guy living in regret he used to be "such a bad person" to someone he cared deeply about.

his self centeredness shows not only in the way he acts even without retaining activated, but he is really in the center of it. shintaro IS the protagonist and deep down even if he hasn't remembered yet, he knows that. so does everyone else. they all know they depend on him, sooner or later.

and i like to think of all this in a post str context thinking that the way he handles all that in everyday life once this story is over and theyre free from a narrative in the first place, is self destructive because its not compatible to being a normal person. he's a protagonist but there's nothing to be a protagonist OF anymore

so it IS taking him a bit to really LOOK at his friends and stop looking only for himself. technically he's lived a hundred doomed lives and now he's here trying out this one and again it is scary and new and... ene, who's been the most dedicated to centering her life around shintaro, is a clear safe place while navigating this.

he takes takane totally for granted because of this. in the narrative she has always been his sidekick. she has been the second main character to him. she has always lived and served him in all timelines, in all the time theyve known each other that she can't remember and he can, takane has been more ene than she's been takane to him, and ene has always been his annoying lap dog he hates as much as he needs in order for the story to move forward. takane of course reciprocrates the dynamic because it's also all she's known for a year. but... it's a year, vs. shintaro's God Knows How Many resets.

so eventually... as she is free from the narrative and very much her own person outside of him, capable of finding love and priorities somewhere else away from him and OUT LOUD tackling issues like hey we have a codependent dynamic going on we should work on, bc she does normal people stuff like going to therapy, takane moves on. which is mind blowing for shintaro AND HE DOESNT LIKE IT

he shuns it completely whenever takane brings it up, which she does a lot as time goes on. because time keeps going on. it keeps passing by. and everyone around him seems to be growing up and that's so infuriating and so terrifying and then stuff like ayano dating him and dumping him is as much of a reality check as ayano being alive in the first place, and he doesn't know what to do with it other than cry and thrive off the attention takane gives him again upon seeing him broken again.

he's in PAIN but it's familiar. it's comfortable. it's classic. it works. because the story he was a protagonist of was a tragedy, so he doesn't know how to behave when there is hope in the future. ❤️

prefacing this with saying that i am not religious i just care about this from a political and historical point of view. american protestant are fascinating because theyve become everything that martin luther hated about the church. the entire schism/reformation happened because the church was exploiting religion to suck money out of the populace via indulgences and fearmongering. making them scared and have them belief the only way to avoid damnation was to give the church money. and the clergy has long been lying about what was actually written in the bible because it's all in latin, so even if someone could read, unless you were a priest yourself you most likely wouldnt know latin. and the thing about "protestants" is that that's the name the church used for them, while they called themselves "evangelicals". that is because they decided that the bible is the only thing that matters. Doesnt matter what the priests say it doesnt matter where you pray, as long as you pray to god and live in accordance to the bible everything was okay. which the church obviously didnt like. so now you have a whole flock of christians who dont give you money, arent (as) afraid of their souls, can actually read it now that it's translated and printed en masse and also dont go to church as much. but protestants in the US love lying about what's in the bible, demand monetary offerings all the time and get off on absolute control over their communities. idk. i think the reformation needs a second reformation

ok. here’s some of my immediate, rambly reactions to eps 3 and 4 of t8s.

first off, i was kinda nervous the entire day. it’s been a while since ive had butterflies like this waiting for a show to air, most recently was the second season of utsukushii kare, but the level it was today was rivalling waiting on a friday for a new bad buddy ep. and the fact this show managed to put me into that state within less than a week is frankly insane, and shows just how down bad i am for it. all that to say, i so soooooo didnt this want this to be a case of me overinflating how good those first 2 eps only for the follow up to not encapsulate the same feelings. all signs were pointing to that not being the case, but still, when you hyperfixate, you kinda get nervous hoping that thing lives up to everything youve built it up to be. and these eps absolutely did that. they didnt just live up to expectations, but are managing to give me scenes and story beats and emotions i just cant predict at this point, and i love that. just how like this budding relationship feels new and unpredictable to jihyun and jaewon, the show is like that for me to watch, and it does wonders for giving me the same butterflies the two are feeling.

but with that unpredictability comes a kind of uncertainty, not knowing whats gonna happen at any turn, and i cant express how much i adore that about these two eps. with the kind of story theyre building, with jaewon’s mental health struggles and his past, with jihyuns nerves and growth in an unfamiliar environment, itd be so easy to make their relationship a shared place of comfort and certainty and familiarity for each other. that place of refuge. and while i feel like that’s what it’ll eventually become, i love that still, in these early stages, the relationship feels so uncertain and almost not guaranteed. it makes you still hang onto every look and touch and word even though theyve already kissed. something about it doesnt feel pre-determined, which is a feeling i get with so many other bl’s when you know, a majority of the time, they’ll get together and have a happy ending. that doesnt feel guaranteed here (even though i pray for that to be the case). instead, it feels like im watching two individuals that are actually having to make a conscious effort in order for this relationship to become something. they have to work for that certainty. and that kind of knife’s edge, it could break at any moment, hanging on every interaction is packed with that specific kind of nervous exhilaration that is so fucking accurate and true to the start of relationship. i seriously cant describe how perfectly they managed to encapsulate that feeling and convey it with such authenticity. its actually ridiculous. seeing those moments, when they’re talking and skirting so closely around the topic of what exactly they are, when then their fingers brush and you are begging for one of them to make the tiniest of moves, to take hold, to make that kind of a statement no matter how small or silent it is, it makes your heart race, bc its new and unknown and in that moment its like your insides are screaming, begging you to embed this sensation into your veins bc you dont know when the next night like this, when the midnight chill and the dusky sky and the hints of alcohol in your system will mix right and make you feel so hedonistically giddy as you do right now at the feeling of that person by your side. and the way they both chase that sensation, how visibly happy it makes them, a craving for each other and that shared thrill only they know, it is just so unbelievably intoxicating to watch. 

i am a person that struggles to sit down and focus. im watching tv but im also knitting, im playing a game but also listening to a podcast. im that person that has to overwhelm my senses to feel sated. this is the first time in a while that ive sat down to watch something and nothing stole my focus, i wasnt distracted, my mind didnt wander. i wasnt concious of the other people walking around my house or the traffic outside or the temperature of the room, i was just fully engrossed. i let every ebb and flow of the scenes and story take me on this path it was guiding me down. and again, thats how they feel. when jihyun and jaewon are alone together, everything else fades away to this dull buzz of background nothingness, they become engrossed in each other, and just as the story pulls me, they pull each other. there’s a constant back and forth, an exchange of setting and challenging boundaries that i adore. when youre getting into a scene, you dont know whos gonna be the one pushing the other. you have jihyun being more forward by the han river, teaching jaewon to draw, then you have jaewon going after jihyun at the library, you have him meeting jihyun after work only for jihyun to ask him to stay and have a drink. its like with every interaction, theyre both asking ‘is this ok?’ and the other asks ‘can we go further?’. i wanna make a whole other post about the nature of their gap in age and experience and all that brings and also how the expectations it brings are subverted, but for now i just wanna say how great it is that there is this balance, and especially that jihyun is allowed to be confident and brave and forward with jaewon, and jaewon is allowed to be reserved and giddy around jihyun. those are experiences so often reserved for the elder and the younger in a relationship, respectively, so to let jihyun be the leader and jaewon the follower, swept up by his feelings and attraction is so refreshing and plays so well into the kind of growth we’re gonna see from these characters and that they need, jihyun growing out of this shy country mouse persona to be more forward and bold, and jaewon being allowed to drop his mask of bravado and letting him be a young person that doesn’t have to be in control of everything. we see that one of his main pressures is the concept of the future, of how simultaneously wide and full of possibilities but also narrow and predetermined that future is for him. he talks about being afraid to lose the comfort of a microcosm like the army of school, even though they are places where he isnt necessarily happy. and then in comes jihyun, something not predetermined, something unexpected, and he takes control of jaewons future in a way by opening up this new path for him. he’s taking some of that stress from jaewon’s shoulders by being an equal and responsive partner in this journey, and offers the chance for jaewon to have something certain in his future, only if he too will work for it. only too if he tries something new, realises that its not too late, and that the anxiety and fear and uncertainty that comes with it may be worth it. bc it may not be guaranteed, but to try instead of never knowing is the only way he can make this possible.

tldr; this show is breath-taking, and im gonna be emo about it for a very long time

stupid normal world au where reigens backstory is the same. that whole thing with the muggers (?) and the kageyama kids happens but instead of loosing control mob finds all the strength in himself to drag ritsu to the closest building, which so happens to be reigens office. mob and reigen are just as close in this au BUT ritsu is begrudgingly fond of him as well they dont work for him but visit every weekend. when reigen meets their parents he basically becomes a glorified babysitter and godfather and couldnt be more proud of these kids.

serizawa is diagnosed with autism at a young age and later at 15 with harm ocd and bipolar and all of it kinda ends up mixing into Awful agoraphobia, but instead of suzuki!!! his mom introduces stuff to him slowly while home schooling him !!! and medication. and therapy. because good lord. BUT he eventually gets to a point where he can live on his own (dw shou lovers hes still there, he goes to the same school as teru and lives in the apartment next door to seri!! he lives with his mom!)

mumbo and grian have it but in a funny like, almost reverse way? i have a different post that kinda touches on this already and it's pretty well established in the fics that they Do Not Care what crimes/evils the other is committing, but they both deep down wish the other Wasnt in the business™. not because they want them living a life on the str8 and narrow, but because they want the other to be Happy and Safe and things you cant be in a literal killer of a workplace. but despite the fact that either of them would immediately quit and abandon the South the second the other did, they both have this thought process that. the other doesnt want to leave, so it would be cruel to ask them, and of course neither will leave the other so theyve sorta deadlocked themselves in a situation that doesnt really exist. i need you, i need you to be safe, i want you to leave but i cant ask that, i want to stay with you whether that's here or there or the ends of the earth, i cannot overemphasize how ridiculous it is that these two will do Literally Anything for the other yet neither ever seems to put two-and-two together that that could also include things like Being Safe and Saying I Love You

but GRIAN. oh he's the real one of all this with him and scar

see this is the thing i havent got too much in fic but the main reason grian obviously knows he likes scar and vice versa but wont do anything Real about it is like the epitome of the post. in grian's view of self, Everything he is can be summed up and finished at 'mumbo's right hand'. mumbo and scar, they can be somewhat normal, they can be something outside of the business (ignoring all their torture dates), but grian- he cant

grian is mumbo's right hand; mumbo will always be his number one priority, no matter what. he cant- and wont- give anyone else an equal amount of time/care/etc. grian's a facade and sharp edges and the Essence of the business and it doesnt matter what he thinks of scar or what scar thinks of him, that will never change

(this isnt a problem for grian, he prides himself on being Mumbo's Right-Hand as his entire identity, but he knows what it costs the one other person who might want to get close to him)

(this also isnt a problem for scar, as we will later see and have already kinda seen, bc scar has no problem with sharp personalities and he's arguably much too onboard with being mumbo and grian's third, he's just in denial about it)

but. Despite. Despite that. grian does want scar close. he already kinda is by default, given he's dating mumbo, but he wants to be close past that too even tho he knows (he thinks) they cant be, that it would only be cruel to scar. he sticks by mumbo and refuses to drop the professionalism and Mr. Chronos but also he sees scar struggling and he goes

I've been working on my issues for a while; getting diagnosed properly, working through trauma, and being kinder to myself. And I just... Discovered a huge issue with how I was raised regarding sex.

I was raised Mormon and raised to be sexy but sexless. I had to conform to male ideals of how a woman should look, which was sexy, but if I ever implied anything but being a stalwart virgin I'd be shamed... Or worse.

This has led to two horrific things in my life:

The first one is that I realized I've been fantasizing about being raped since I started puberty as a young child, that being the only 'acceptable' way to have sex without being damned. Ive had a high libido my whole puberty and post puberty life, but no one ever taught me how to care for those urges. Ever. And its intensely horrific that a young child would yearn for sexual violence.

The second is when my parents caught me looking at pornography. It wasnt even porn, it was erotic content, but it was enough they took *every* possible device in my name, cutting off every avenue of communication, and confined me to the house for weeks and started talking about forcing me into rehab for my 'addiction'. The truth was I had absolutely no way to manage my high libido and no one that would help, so I turned to the thing I thought I could hide. I had to essentially escape to the neighbors, claim abuse, and then after months of consulting with my psychiatrist, a psychologist, and two bishops my parents stopped controlling my life (and instead are trying to 'good advice' me into controlling my life anyways)

Over mild erotic imagery.

I already know I need to leave the house and make my parents as minimally involved in my life as possible, and I'm also going to have to wipe my records from the Church to keep them from trying to stalk me. While theyve let me have control, theyre always breathing down my neck and trying to 'drag me back' into the Church... When it was the Church that caused all of these problems in the first place. This is severe sexual and religious trauma and I know I need to leave, but I cant drive, I cant afford a place to live, and if I wipe my records now my parents will get far worse.

Its okay if you don't answer this ask, a-and if youre willing to talk to me in private refer to me as the Barbie Anon and I'll reveal myself, but I need help. Where can I go?

I'm sorry you're going through such a hard time. You're in a tough situation.

I'm not an expert on available resources beyond some national help lines for things like suicide. Actual resources are usually available through your state or city, or from local non-profits. You could try contacting The Trevor Project and asking one of their counselors if they could point you towards resources that could help you leave your home. If you're in Utah, perhaps you could contact the Encircle House near you and see what they can suggest.

I know when it feels like you're stuck in a situation you can't get out of, it feels like this will never end. Please know that life gets better. As we get older, get a job, go to college, go to counseling, get some benefits & assistance, and so on, we get more control over our life and we get to make changes.

Okay so I saw the word "Royal" in your last post and so like do you have an idea about the Royal Family or anything like who is in charge can we get the deets on that or is that spoilers? 👀

oooo YES I HAVENT TALKED ABOUT THEM YET.,..

the .,..country? region?? mochi and lime live in is ruled by the central kingdom. m&l dont live in the capital, instead living in a city actually pretty close to the borderlands between the central kingdom and the mountain region

as you can probably guess the capital is where the palace is and indeed the central kingdom is ruled by a monarch (not a figurehead, he actually does have quite a bit of power, but not all-powerful)

the royal family passes down from generation to generation, and for a LOOONG time the royal agenda has been very anti-magic. not publicly and outright because theyve actually been doing a pretty good campaign of convincing the public slowly that magic isnt really a thing.

but under the hood theyve established anti-magic things like the m34th, they have barriers in place to bar magic from entering the palace, etc

they central kingdom hates magic because theyre afraid of what it can do and what it has done. they dont believe when witches say they are bound by blood oath to never harm humans, so they do whatever they can to destroy witches/mages/magic creatures

similar story to the m34th, they started as a strong fight against magic but over time realized killing the witches wasnt really doing anything so they settled for "allowing" them to live among humans while keeping a close eye on them

currently, there is the king and queen and their two sons. as of whats going on in my head right now, the story surrounding that is that the first son is,....somewhere. gone?? i dont know. hes not at the palace and not in line for the throne. i dont know what he did.

the second son was mentioned a long time ago but his story runs into the frog witch!!

while the father is very anti-witch, the prince (second son) is secretly a bit of a witch sympathizer. the stories his mother told him have him curious and hes the big hearted type, so when his father goes on and on about witch extermination etc the prince....does not agree

im not sure what the in-between is, whether they have some falling out or something but one way or another, the prince ends up running away (eventually after getting himself in a lot of shit finds himself in the swamp region and in the hands of a witch - literally begs her to let him stay and learn from her because he wants to k n o w)

and this subplot actually ends up involving mochi and is her little episode for when she meets the frog witch!!

what happens is the m34th shows up on mochis door one day, not to threaten her, but to bring her in to see the king because he demands her help

supposedly though he doesnt like magic, hes been trying to find his son and hasnt been able to, so he turns to the strongest witch in the lands to help find him. in exchange he promises appropriate compensation and to leave her and her guild in peace.

(i dont think the king is an evil man, just conditioned to think a certain way after being raised and immersed in generations of a certain way of thinking. but he really does love his son and wants him safe and home, and is willing to work with magic things if need be to make that happen)

and mochi DOES NOT LIKE THE CENTRAL KINGDOM. AT ALL. but, after much deliberation, comes to the conclusion that the king is coming to her for help as a father and not as a monarch, so eventually takes the commission and goes on her frog witch meeting adventure

and at the end we find out that one of the women close to the king, either the queen or one of the royal advisers, is actually secretly a witch (or former witch) herself (perhaps the dog witch or something with a cute lil black Pomeranian familiar or something), and mochi earns several friends in VERY high places which will probably come in handy later on (madam royal witch as well as the prince)
