I looooooove being straight-baited by Lower Decks. I'm deeply sorry to make it all about shipping except for how I'm not sorry at all. <3 I just know Mike McMahan and crew sitting around thinking they are so progressive for having all these men and women just be friends. And I'm kicking my feet and giggling about how incorrect they are.

S4 two opening episodes. Boimler and Mariner having a "glad we're friends" moment, then Boimler head patting Mariner and them both saying it was weird after. Mariner and Ransom being called out by the ensign like "are you breaking up?". I love it. Especially since they're two different flavors of baiting.

Mariner and Boimler I get the vibe the show is like. BAFFLED that people ship them. I think the writers genuinely think they're giving just friend vibes. They wrote spirk parallels INTO THE SHOW and they still don't get it. Just because you're writing a comedy doesn't mean you can't (inadvertently) create a really good ship. Once AGAIN I am saying maybe they should watch When Harry Met Sally about it. Teehee. Mariner and Ransom meanwhile has always given "they could bone down at least once, as a treat" and I really feel like they could have in season 1 era if the show writers had absolutely zero exposure to fan reactions. But they WERE exposed, not only to fans but also current progressive media as a whole so they gave Mariner an underdeveloped girlfriend instead. I for real love that gay people are getting the full spectrum of relationships in television these days, including ones that are just kind of uninteresting and there for the sake of being there. <3

I am so sad that it seems like they're really done with Teal Oranges. Honestly, that's one of the biggest weak points of this season so far.

Season 1 ended not just with Stede and Ed separated, but notably with Oluwande and Jim and Pete and Lucius torn apart. That was something so many of us were so eager to see fixed, we wanted all those couples reunited as they are the two relationships that takes a supporting role right behind Gentlebeard and is able to exemplify the easier and more simple or stable nature of the couples who stay out of the main pairing's drama.

And with the introduction of Zheng Yi Sao and Archie, I like the characters. They're pretty fun, Zheng is so smart and tactful and Archie is so comedic and earnest. Between the two, Archie def needs more building, but I did find the Oluwande and Zheng romance to be genuinely compelling. But only if I wasn't thinking about Jim.

It just feels so sudden to have Jim and Oluwande be done with each other (romantically) considering they were definitely still a couple at the end of the season and it only seems like it's been a couple months since they last saw each other.

Had they just been best friends who ended up hooking up and were probably going to decide they worked better as friends, I would be way more on board and down for these new couples! But it felt like they were pretty clearly written as a serious relationship that we'd see stick together through the end.

And the entirety of us getting closure on their relationship is just- "I've missed you." "I kissed someone." "Okay then." "I also saw her boobs." "Cool, I guess, but I think that's tmi."

And my bestie pointed out, though Olu def seemed to be flirting back with Zheng, he didn't take things to kissing until after hearing that Jim was already kissing someone else. And when Zheng asks him, Oluwande doesn't say yes or no on if he and Jim are over. He dodges the question and just says they're his best friend and family. Which would usually be a kind of line used to mean he was still planning to be with Jim and didn't want to lie, but still wanted to kiss Zheng in the moment so he omitted the reality with a little half-truth.

Which usually would keep my hopes up about a possible polycule (I'm really trying to keep my hopes up about a possible polycule) but we have that article with David calling Olu and Jim exes and saying he wants to use them to represent more complex relationship structures in the queer community with exes keeping healthy friendships and- come on man.

I really don't wanna give up on Teal Oranges, but the more I rewatch and the more I think about them, the more I worry.

but the story and characters were what I truly cared about

same with HxH (till Meruem/Komugi came along at the end)

Part 2 - My most reread Drarry fics

A few weeks ago, I shared a (non-exhaustive) list of the fics that I've reread the most.

All of them were on the short side, since I usually don't have time to reread longer fics, unfortunately. But while I don't often reread longer fics entirely, there are many that I revisit regularly by dipping into bits and pieces or rereading specific scenes that tug at my heart and stay with me.

Here are some of the long fics I keep coming back to, over and over again, and will probably definitely continue to do so in the future.

Nor All That Glisters by @sweet-s0rr0w (110k)

An amazing fic about the spiral of addiction, love and healing. This fic is intense and heartbreaking at times. It will have you root for Draco while yelling at him at the same time, urging him not to do what you fear he will do. One of my favourite Draco of all time.

That Old black Magic by @bixgirl1 (77k)

An absolutely stunning read. A pure enemies to lovers fic. Forced marriage trope at its best, with explosive, scorching hate sex.

I love revisiting the scene with the tapestry when Harry breaks down. It always hits me right in the feels.

I am honestly so happy with Buck/Tommy. Not because I don't want Buddie endgame anymore - that's still my dream. But because the payoff will be so much richer (and honestly more believable for the casual fan) than if they go from "straight" to bi Buck to Buddie in a few episodes.

And so far, Tommy's character is GREAT! He has chemistry with both Eddie & Buck and based on his delivery of "MY attention?" he seems to be the most aware of the potential for Buddie out of the three of them. So yeah he's gonna take the opportunity to kiss Buck when it's offered (who wouldn't??) and probably a lot more than that and he's gonna be able to walk Buck through this new thing with some confidence so that if/when Buddie does come about, it can be more about the emotions.

They've honestly set him up to potentially be Eddie's queer guru as well - or even just given us someone who Eddie can talk about on screen about Buck, which has been rare in the past. And since Tommy seems aware of the Buck/Eddie of it all from the beginning, I'm hopeful he won't be the love interest who has to put on a brave face while being tossed aside for no reason in favor of the main pairing (a trope I hate) but rather he can be like "yeah I always knew this was coming but I wanted to have some fun in the meantime".

Also now that they confirmed Season 8, I want it to be slowwwww. I want everyone in the 911 universe to be rooting for them before they're even fully aware. I want every fan, not just the tumblr buddie community, to be screaming at their TV "JUST KISS ALREADY" every time Buddie is on screen. And then when they finally do, we can all die happy :) because love is love and these two deserve each other in the best way possible.
