Now, these lines from Lucy's dream are really interesting within the context of what came before the feeding, and what exactly does it mean when a vampire feeds on you in this novel.

Lucy may not remember that she was drinked, but her subconscious tried to make sense of the sudden pain, the blood loss, and what seemed to be her own soul trying to escape her body. The writing here doesn't feel like it's supposed to be a metaphor, or an allegory of Lucy trying to make sense of how her life is drained.

Within the religious context of this novel; one that is deeply baked into it since day 1, you should not only fear that a vampire might kill your body, but also that they will corrupt your soul in the process. Leaving you out of god's light, and condemning you to an eternal life in the dark.

Jonathan admited how he would prefer to die like a man, like an untainted human being while staring at the bottom of that castle than risk his stay, and become an unholy monster like the Weird Sisters, forever bound to roam the opulent, yet rotting halls of that place.

The first mate of the Demeter jumped from the ship in horror at the possibility of ending up like his coworkers, who we still don't ( and never) know if Dracula killed completely, or decided to leave some of them staring at the sky of the water to see their soul fly free as their inmortal bodies sink down into the ocean floor.

"and then there was a sort of agonising feeling, as if I were in an earthquake, and I came back and found you shaking my body. I saw you do it before I felt you."

Lucy felt how her soul was pulling away from her now "corrupted" body as Dracula drank from her. Yet, Mina interrupted that separation by taking Lucy away, and awaking her from the trance. I'm very worried at that "agonising feeling", and the fact that Lucy was not truly physically feeling anything until she was totally awake.

It really reads that she was borderline on dying right there if it wasn't for Mina coming to save her in that specific moment.

You guys rlly don't realise how much knowledge is still not committed to the internet. I find books all the time with stuff that is impossible to find through a search engine- most people do not put their magnum opus research online for free and the more niche a skill is the less likely you are to have people who will leak those books online. (Nevermind all the books written prior to the internet that have knowledge that is not considered "relevant" enough to digitise).

Whenever people say that we r growing up with all the world's knowledge at our fingertips...it's not necessarily true. Is the amount of knowledge online potentially infinite? Yes. Is it all knowledge? No. You will be surprised at the niche things you can discover at a local archive or library.
