love the way I have to talk to my grandma on the phone that is simultaneously “you suck and you’re mean to my mom and also mean to the rest of the family, and you’ve also purposefully isolated yourself from a lot of our family so that’s why no one wants to answer your calls” and “I love you so much and you mean the world to me and i’m desperately trying not to make this an abandoned connection, both individually and for the family”
#shhh sharkie#there’s some part of me that’s like.#if I can just get nonna to have an actual relationship with me#and let me drive her and pop-pop up to family functions#cause i’m on the way. i’m in maryland and they’re in delaware. they’re literally on the way for my various New England destinations.#but they’ve become extremely combative with the rest of the family#which maybe i’m stupidly hopeful but a lot of conflict would be stopped by talking about the issue face to face and not over texting#anyway have maybe laid the foundation to build some bridges but either way#her main concern was whether or not I was dating someone 😆#and if i would use my older sisters’s wedding to try to find someone#i very gently told her no on both accounts. told her i’ve got a lot going on. and also that a wedding is a terrible place to meet someone#also did tell her no i don’t meet anyone at weddings cause me and my two other queer siblings just gang up and vibe#not in those words but yknow#told her ‘yeah we all just end up hanging out and dancing and drinking together so we don’t even really have the opportunity’#as if the real scenario is who the fuck hooks up with a rando at a wedding. especially when it’s your own family.#like. no. no thank you.#i’m not saying i’d object if the situation were to happen but like#at least most weddings i’ve gone to there’s a chance i’m at least 50% related to anyone attending#i’m just gonna hang out with my other queer siblings and enjoy being with them. yknow?#sidebar cause i went back to edit other things in the post but like#the abandonment and isolation are fuel for radicalization#and yeah half of me is like ‘just cut her off’ but also#my presence on its own is radicalizing. so since i’m apparently the family member she still wants to talk to#it’s apparently my duty#Nonna is gonna be liberal if it breaks my fucking mind#at this pint with the Bullshit i’m on a Mission

People with perfect hair, perfect skin, perfect body, perfect everything are so unattractive to me... Do they have anything actually going if the only thing that comes to mind to describe them is "well they're like a doll, I guess"

The Harkers have got me fucked up. Not just from how much they're going through. Not just from how well they know each other.
But in how much is not being said. How much that appears to have been missed.
Mina has just made their friends swear to euthanize her. In front of Jonathan, who she knows cannot/will not make said promise aloud, though she tries to fish it out. A funeral service, yes, but no more than that. She takes the wins she can, relying on the others for the sacrificial slaughter while she pries what she thinks is some mote of acceptance of the Worst Case Scenario in Potentia from Jonathan. Perhaps she's read the vampiric vow of his journal by now. Perhaps not. Perhaps she already suspects either way and wants desperately not to see him damn himself, damn both of them, to avoid raising a killing hand to her.
She is going into the dark. What kind, she does not know yet. But she knows--thinks she knows--she has taken some measure to save her soul and Jonathan's. God's will be done. (Piety trembles in her heart, a fear trying frantically to still look like faith.)
Jonathan, meanwhile, is in Hell.
As it was in the castle, there are some miseries too deep to dwell on for him to stomach writing them down. Hence his tapping Jack to record it all. But the silence from him here, bar the dodge of the promise that goes against his private vow, bar the reading of the burial service, sinks deeper than any horror he suffered from the Count in person. What can he be thinking now?
I made this all possible. I opened the door to England for him. Showed him how to spread his poison. Failed to strike a killing blow when I had the chance. Slept frozen and useless beside her as he drank and made her drink. Lost him by inches in Piccadilly. Now I am here, listening to her claim so sunnily that any man of old would murder his woman to save her from the enemy's touch, as if asking for a trifle. All the while I sit contemplating a hellish betrayal, holding my heart over her wishes, over sanity, humanity, Heaven and Hell. Contemplating worse.
(The kukri is very sharp by now. In time it will have so fine an edge that no one would feel its cut before their head toppled off. Be they in a coffin or a friend with their back turned. Sickly, he finds the thought cold and placid in his mind. Is he not already damned for what he's allowed? Is he not already slated for the Count's collection? He knows whose blood it was on the monster's lips on that final dawn in Transylvania. And when he dies...)
I imagine he has to stop himself from making a mirrored request to the others right there. Has to stop himself from handing Mina the Bible and asking her to read it out for him. If she is lost, he is lost. It is not merely undeath that he would follow her into--whatever she is, wherever she goes, so must he be, so must he go.
Read it for me now, darling. You laid it all out so eloquently. I am already lost but for the wait for the grave. Come everyone, while we're here. Two funerals. Two sets of oaths. I can perhaps save you half the work, if I fall neatly enough on the kukri. Pry it from my heart and take my head when the time comes.
But he bites his tongue. Does not touch his pen. Does not risk heaping another weight on his love who is already crushed beneath existential terrors that are being thrust on her by the actions of others. She does not know what he is planning, even if she suspects it by half.
What she knows: Jonathan cannot raise a hand to her. (He would have me as a monster than not exist at all.)
What he prays she never will: Jonathan will be anything she is. (Mortal. Monster. Dead.)
One last secret to keep.
All the way to the grave.

Us (Alexia Putellas x reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: I have no idea where this came from but it has been stuck in my head for a few weeks. I hope you guys like it!
You had been in the most important meeting of your career when you received a message.  You never turned your phone off in case there was an emergency but you did put it on do not disturb. The small vibration in your pocket told you 1 of 2 people were trying to get in touch with you. Your manager was in the meeting with you so it only left one person.
I need you, please can you come over.
As far as Alexia was aware you were in England. Your mind went to the worse case scenario because it had to be something bad if she was asking you to get on a plane and fly to Barcelona with no explanation.
In the politest way possible you excuse yourself from the meeting and leave your future in the safe hands of your manager, who upon seeing your face backs your decision to leave without asking any questions.
A quick text is sent to your girlfriend saying that you are on your way but there’s no response. You try calling only there is no answer. By the time you get to her apartment building you are filled with worry and you waste no time in running up the stairs having no patience to wait for the elevator.
When you knock on the door you are not met by your girlfriend.
“You’re the lion?” The resemblance was even more striking up close. You had met Alba once or you had at least been in the same room as her.
“Technically I’m a lioness”
It makes a little more sense now. No one was aware of your relationship and in order to keep the questions at bay you didn’t save each others phone number under a name, instead it was an emoji. Yours was a lion due your national team’s nickname and your on pitch persona. Hers was a crown because she was your queen and known by the fans as La Reina.
“Alba let her in” another woman, Alexia’s mother, guides you through the apartment even though you have been here enough times to know your way around.
“You’re the girl my daughter has been seeing”
“I am and I will happily introduce myself and answer any questions you may have after I have seen her”
“She’s in the living room. When we came she was crying and she won’t talk to any of us” one of Alexia’s best friends says.
It didn’t look good. Her mother, sister and best friend all at your girlfriends apartment yet she is refusing to talk to any of them
The three woman give you some space as you enter the living room. All of them hoped that you would have more luck at finding out what was wrong.
“Hello you” you crouch down so that you are at her level and without saying a word Alexia wraps her arms around you tightly. The speed of it almost sends you both to the ground but you steady yourself just in time.
Once on the sofa Alexia buries her face in the crook of your neck.
“How are you here?”
“That doesn’t matter. Alexia, what is wrong?”
“They won’t leave me alone. It’s like they are obsessed with my personal life. I’m happy, why isn’t that enough for them? Why do they need to get involved and keep bringing up the past?”
You were at a loss. Yes you were aware of the spotlight that was constantly on Alexia, one was on you as well but you had been dating for almost 2 years now and nobody was the wiser.
“Who cariño?” Eli asks from the other side of the room.
“The girls. They think that because Jenni signed for Atleti that we are going to get back together. We finally got back to a good place during the World Cup and no one seems to understand that we are just friends. We are Y/N, I promise nothing is going on” Alexia turns to look at you.
During the World Cup you saw the rumours and they spread quickly given that everyone assumes Alexia is single. At first it bothered you but the two of you talked about it and you realised that you were jealous for no reason. Alexia was your girl and only yours.
“I know” deep down you hated that she was still getting linked to another woman but it wasn’t a threat to your relationship so you let it go.
“They are going to ruin everything. They don’t even know and they are ruining—“
“Alexia, nobody is ruining anything. Let your friends talk. At the end of the day it is me and you”
The three other women in the room watched and listened as you talked Alexia through her panic. You were able to calm her and bring her peace in a moment that was very overwhelming for her.
“But Jenni is—“
“Jenni is your past and that cannot be changed. What have I told you?” You ask your girlfriend.
The woman who is still cuddled into your side mumbles something incoherent and you know she is mumbling because she doesn’t want the other women to know the words you told her during the summer.
“She’s your first love Alexia, I intend to be your last” you kiss the corner of her mouth.
The sound of awes burst the little bubble that you had formed around you and Alexia. Clearly embarrassed, Alexia once again hides herself.
Knowing that the two of you can’t ignore the introduction that the women are waiting for, Alexia officially introduces you to Eli, Alba and Miri as her girlfriend.
“What happens now?” Alexia asks you “Do we tell people? I don’t want our bubble to break, everything is normal with you. We are Y/N and Alexia but when people find out we will be captains, players and rivals”
“Hey, calm down. They will change but we won’t. Do you want to be us normal or what everyone else expects us to be?”
“Us normal”
“Well then I am going to drive you back to your training facility, open the door for you like I always do, I’ll kiss you goodbye and then you’re going to go to work”
Your confidence was reassuring to all in the room.
Alexia tells you that she is going to freshen up in the bathroom which leaves you alone with three of the most important people in her life. Your media training comes in very handy as you are able to answer all of Alba’s and Miri’s questions without hesitation or breaking a sweat. However, Eli’s question catches you off guard.
“You’re the reason why Alexia didn’t come back to the room after the awards show in Dubai aren’t you?”
“Guilty but nothing happened” technically it was the truth, nothing did happen that night “We spent the night in the hotel bar talking then went to the beach to watch the sunrise”
“Can I ask you a question?” Alba says “If you were in England when you received the text would have come?”
“I would have been on the first flight out, yes”
It seemed to enough to please the younger Putellas because she simply nodded her head.
Once Alexia was ready you did as you said. The two of you drove to Joan Camper, Alexia quizzed you the entire car journey because you still hadn’t told her why you were in Barcelona. You open the door for her as expected but what Alexia didn’t expect was you to walk with her into the facility.
“I love that you care but you don’t have to do this for me, I can handle it”
“Who says I’m doing it for you”
The two of you stop in front of the canteen. It was surrounded by glass windows and you can see the majority of the team eating their lunch.
“Us normal?” You ask Alexia and she nods her head. As you normally would whenever you visited her or she visited you, you kissed her once on the lips and then once on her hairline as she hugged you goodbye.
“Wait! Where are you going?” Alexia asks as you don’t go in the direction of the exit.
“You asked how I’m here. Well, I have a job interview with your boss”

Begging' On your knees
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: mapi had been going out with one of the player's until she randomly just ghosted and broke up with her over text with no explanation whatsoever.
Warning: none and let's not forget everything is fictional !
Basically a mapi x Ingrid x r oc kinda fic, inspired by the song begging on your knees song from victorious.because I recently just restarted it and the song got my attention and i haven't stopped making scenario so here we are with me writing this fic.
You and mapi had been going out together for a while now. especially with you getting called up for the team this season.meaning you both could practice and spend more time together. But recently you've noticed she gotten distant with you but didn't think much of it.
Until she she texted you out of nowhere wanting to break up no explanation or reasoning. You've never felt confused and heartbroken like that before especially when the near end of your season came.
At practice you'd both ignore each other unless you were paired up together for practices game or at matches.
where you'd both need to communicate otherwise no words would be uttered to another. Not until a fellow teammate Lucy had mentioned something.
about new transfers joining in the team . you had no worries cause you've already renewed your contract with the team.
for another two years which was yet to be announced . Nobody really knew about you and mapi. Cause most of the time you and mapi would always flirt and touch each other consensual.
Has spanish people are very affectionate with one another. So no one really thought about it.
but it did go noticed by a few teammates how you both had suddenly stopped interacting that much. Which they planned a get together for the whole team to bound and everything.
sadly you hadn't been able to attend due to your break and you booking a flight to spend time with a few friends from england and to focus more on yourself.
You hadn't been really on social media that much , only on there to post photos dumps of your trip or doing mini tiktoks with friends.
So you don't really know what going on between your teammates back at spain.
but you didn't bear anything in mind and just enjoyed your vacation .
Until that had recently come to an end and it was time for you too get back to spain. You had recently joined back to regular training with the team. it hadn't been a surprise has your renewal was already announced.
You'd already get along with everyone and the new comers getting to know each other and doing small talk. It hadn't been until you'll notice mapi talking to a browned hair girl with light blue eyes .
You've heard that they started talking a while back and recently became official. Angry couldn't even describe what you were feeling, begin able to match the pieces together which was able to explain the distance between you and mapi .and how your relationship went downfall.
It all made sense, you felt hurt betrayed and most definitely used like a recycling bin. If your day couldn't go any worse after crying in the bathroom.
pretending you were okay. Alexia and Irene had planned a get together at a karaoke club bar for all you women.
to get along and know each other and too have fun in general has the team would be having a busy and long week. You couldn't decline the invite.
But had a very tempting idea to get back at mapi. At the karaoke bar everyone was having fun, drinking, dancing and much more. Lucy had spotted you having begin the one to notice the distance between you and mapi
; you've been staring at both of them for a while now said lucy ; you just looked at her and back at them without giving her a reply and just moved up to the stage choosing a song and grabbing the mic.
You had it all
The day you told me, told me you want me
I had it all
But let you fool me, fool me completely
Yeah, I was so stupid
To give you all my attention
'Cause the way you played me' *you said while pointing at mapi *
Exposed your true intentions
And one day
I'll have you begging on your knees for me
Yeah, one day
I'll have you crawling like a centipede
You messed with me' (pointing at yourself)
And messed with her (pointing at Ingrid )
So I'll make sure you get what you deserve
Yeah, one day
You'll be begging on your knees for me
So, watch your back *you get down the stage )
'Cause you don't know when or where I could get you
I've set the trap
And when I'm done, then you'll know what I've been through
So, oh, "Ms. Player"
Do you feel like the man now?
And I bet you're nervous
'Cause this song makes you freak out
And one day
I'll have you begging on your knees for me
Yeah, one day
I'll have you crawling like a centipede
You messed with me
And messed with her ( you said while grabbing Ingrid by her arm and placing it around your shoulder while pointing at her *)
So I'll make sure you get what you deserve
Yeah, one day
You'll be begging on your knees for me
I know I'm being bitter
But I'mma drag you under
'Cause you just don't, don't deserve happy ever after
For what you did to me
After you told me you'd never felt that way
It was only just a game
And one day
And one day
I'll have you begging on your knees for me (begging on your knees for me)
Yeah, one day
Yeah, one day
I'll have you crawling like a centipede (crawling like a centipede)
You messed with me
And messed with her
So I'll make sure you get what you deserve
You'll be begging on your knees for me
You finished by setting the mic down and ; yelling I'll fucking get you back léon;
joining the rest of the girls by dancing and continuing your night drinking and having fun.
While mapi had the look of shock trying to process everything or to get words out of her mouth.
Her friend group around her just gave out a look of disappointment while most of them just laughed at the look of horror she has on her face.
A/n : finally wrote something after not writing for a few months now 😀 I'm happy with how this turned out a lil bit , if you have any ideas for a p2 feel free to share it also wrote this in one sitting so they might be mistakes and of course I'm always happy to get feedbacks .

knight in shining armor

masterlist
can you tell I’m in love with writing period pieces 🤭 (even if they’re not that historically accurate…) ALSO PLEASE SEND ME REQUESTS 🙏🙏🙏 btw, italics is y/n's thoughts and bold is euneok's thoughts.
summary: y/n’s a college student majoring in history on a school trip to a historical castle in england. somehow she and her academic rival, eunseok, get stuck in a secret chamber in the castle which ends up transporting them to the 1300s! will the pair overcome their differences and manage to get back to the 21st century? (not proofread)
date: 04/09/24
scenario themes: time travel, enemies to lovers, period piece
idol: song eunseok or eunseok of riize
concept: fluff, fantasy
warnings: swearing
word count: 12k (i got a bit carried away)
Tumblr media
song eunseok is an exchange student from korea who makes your college life a living hell.
you love studying history, especially the entirety of medieval england. you’re even writing your senior thesis on english nobility during the medieval period.
unfortunately for you, eunseok excels at history as well.
since you have such a huge passion for history, you’ve always naturally excelled at it. you tend to be a bit of a try-hard when it comes to school and that bit increases tenfold when it’s anything history-related.
it’s immature to compete so openly with a peer at this age. to many, ‘rivals’ are a high school concept. and yet, something about the way eunseok knows every detail about chinese foot-binding practices and confidently leads discussions about the cold war makes your eye twitch.
history is your thing.
you know you sound crazy, but it’s not like it was completely one-sided. eunseok hates not being the smartest in the room.
he worked his ass off to learn english, leave korea, and get a scholarship at your university. there’s no way he was going to settle for mediocrity.
and of course he noticed how intensely you glared at him when he answered a question you were dying to answer.
just like you noticed how annoyed he was when you would mention getting a slightly higher grade than him on a paper.
you were both in the same major which meant you had a lot of overlapping courses, and unfortunately for your professors and classmates, you almost always ended up in the same class.
for the most part you tried to ignore eunseok outside of class. sure he was the bane of your existence for the hour and a half lecture on roman architecture, but outside that he was none of your concern.
eunseok on the other hand found himself thinking of you quite often. it’s not like he always disliked you. in fact, he found your passion for history admirable, and he thought your dedication to your coursework was cute.
but when you began treating him coldly and sending him glares from across the room, he was quick to react in the same way.
eunseok isn’t stupid, he knows why you dislike him, and that if he was less of an overachiever, you’d maybe warm up to him. but he’s not going to jeopardize his grades and hard work to please some girl… no matter how much he’d like to get to know said girl.
you’d be lying if you said you didn’t find him attractive, but there isn’t a soul on this earth that could waterboard that information out of you.
to put it simply, you can’t stand each other.
but right now that doesn’t matter. nothing matters. because you’re going on a trip set up by the history department to riize castle in england.
it might just be another old site to everyone else, but it's your absolute favorite castle. you know the entire history of the building, you've studied the floor plans an embarrassing amount of times, and have spent most of your childhood yearning to go there, and that dream is finally coming true.
and not even eunseok could ruin it for you... or so you thought.
your flight was set for 3 am, and while the other students were groggily arriving at the airport one by one, annoyed at both the timing and the expenses they'd have to cover for the trip, you were elated.
that is until you received your boarding passes and found out you would be spending the entirety of the 10-hour flight from california to england seated next to the one person you abhor.
maybe he's less insufferable outside of class, you thought to yourself.
after your group boarded you sat down next to him and the two of you continued to sit in awkward silence until takeoff. but once the plane began moving, you noticed eunseok starting to shuffle around and breathe heavier.
"are you alright?" you asked, glancing at his trembling hands gripping onto the armrest. "yes." he responded immediately.
"don't you go back to korea every school break, how are you scared of flying-" before you could finish your sentence, eunseok grabbed your hand, squeezing it tightly.
you were about to interject but you realized the plane was beginning to ascend so he must've been frightened.
his hand was warm and soft, despite his trembling, the foreign feeling of his hand on yours was comfortable.
as soon as the plane was fully in the air, he let go of your hand as if nothing happened and picked out a book from his carry-on.
"um.. are you okay?" you questioned, confused at his sudden behavior change. "i get a bit nervous during takeoff and landings, i'm usually fine during the rest of the flight so you don't have to worry about me holding your hand for the next ten hours." he deadpanned.
"a bit? you were shaking like a leaf." you chortled. he rolled his eyes in response, going back to his book.
it was then that you realized you stupidly hadn't brought any entertainment with you for the trip, and your flight didn't have wi-fi either.
you decided the only thing you could do to remain sane in this situation is fall asleep, it was 3 in the morning after all.
leaning your head as far back as the stiff seats would allow, you closed your eyes and drifted off.
approximately five hours later, you woke up with a crick in your neck and an odd numbness on the side of your mouth. opening your eyes slowly, you were greeted with the site of eunseok's shirt directly beneath you with a large wet spot.
holy shit.
you fell asleep on eunseok's shoulder and drooled all over his shirt. if he didn't say anything this far he's probably going to the next 5 hours you're on this flight.
you haven't moved your head yet, scared that if you indicate you're awake, he's going to hold this against you until the end of time.
panicking, you accidentally jolted your stiff neck up, causing your chin to collide directly with eunseok's.
fuck. well there goes my cover.
"ow!" you both exclaimed in unison. "was drooling over me not enough? you had to break my jaw too?" he grumbled, rubbing his chin.
"you could've moved my head!" you defended, flustered. straightening yourself up, you wiped the side of your mouth awkwardly.
instead of responding, he grabbed a napkin from his bag and handed it to you.
"thank you." you said, taken aback.
why is he being so nice?
"i'm... sorry for ruining your shirt," you mumbled. "it's no big deal." he shrugged.
was this the same eunseok that commented "worst thing I've ever read." on your peer-graded essay?
maybe you could mend things with him during this trip. after all, he did seem pretty excited when the announcement was made.
"so... have you ever been to england before?" you began, initiating small-talk.
"can we just sit in silence?" he replied coldly.
nevermind, he's still just as much of an asshole as ever.
shit. why did I say that? eunseok thought to himself.
the truth is, you made him nervous. whether it was your icy stare or your intimidatingly vast knowledge on history, he could never let his guard down around you.
the rest of the flight was spent with the two of you refusing to so much as face each other until landing.
as the plane was about to descend, you noticed eunseok starting to take deep breaths. part of you wanted to extend a hand, but the other part of you wanted to throw him off the plane.
deciding to be the bigger person, you asked "are you alright?"
"I'm not a child." he croaked.
"I didn't say you were." you sassed.
"then stop talking to me like I am one." he began, growing more irritated.
the two of you began to go back and forth, and before you knew it you had landed. eunseok managed to forgot all about his fear because of how unbelievably petty the two of you were.
"will you guys shut up!?" a passenger behind you shouted, causing the both of you to stop arguing.
annoyed, you got out of your seat as quickly as you could and made a beeline for the baggage claim, waiting for your bags.
how do you keep getting forced into these kinds of situations with him? were you some kind of monster in your past life? was he your karma?
once you and the rest of your group received your luggage, you headed to the hotel. due to the time zone difference, it was already 9 pm in london so your group supervisors told everyone to get some sleep so you could head to the castle in the morning.
whether it was because of the nap you took on the plane, or simply how excited you were, you couldn't sleep at all.
staring at the clock reading 1 a.m. in your hotel room, you decided to try catching a glimpse of the castle before everyone else woke up at 7. it wasn't your brightest idea, but it's not like you had anything else to do.
you managed to get past your sleeping roommates, throwing on a jacket and slipping out the door. coincidentally, eunseok couldn't sleep either, and he decided to go for a walk around the hotel at the same moment you decided to leave.
spotting your figure leaving the hotel and heading off towards the street, he couldn't help but follow you.
was this extremely stalker-ish? yes. but what if she got hurt or kidnapped? we're in a different country after all. not like I care if she gets hurt or kidnapped... but if she did it would ruin our trip! so I have no choice but to follow her eunseok reasoned.
it didn't take long for him to figure out where you were going. the hotel is extremely close to the castle, after all. once you reached, you stared at the castle from afar, marveling at it.
you waited for this moment your whole life, and it was even more beautiful in person. there's no way you could turn back now. you have to see it closer.
carefully maneuvering past the gates, you managed to miraculously sneak in, and there didn't seem to be any security guards present.
what the hell is she doing? this is illegal!
what the hell am I doing? this is illegal!
you thought about turning back, but your curiosity was eating you up inside. you had to go see what the interior of the castle looked like.
thanks to your insanely intensive study of the building, you managed to find a secret opening that not many people knew of and you quickly slipped inside, hoping nobody would notice.
however, someone--that someone being eunseok--definitely did notice. and he mentally cursed himself for following you this far, wondering why he couldn't bring himself to turn back.
slipping through the opening, he entered a completely dark hallway, unsure of where you were.
you had dreamed of walking these corridors your whole life, and even without any light you were able to manuever around the halls.
unfortunately, eunseok couldn't say the same, and when he started walking, it didn't take long for him to bump into a stand of knight armor.
the loud crashing was enough to trigger an alarm system and turn on emergency lights, which exposed both eunseok and you to one another.
"what the hell are you doing here?" you shrieked "what the hell are YOU doing here?" he retorted.
you knew it wasn't long until authorities would arrive, so you grabbed eunseok and began running further into the castle.
"what are you doing? we need to leave!" he yelled.
"if we leave, they'll just catch us on our way out. we need to hide somewhere they won't look."
dragging him by the arm, you rushed into the old servant chambers, diving into the closet. well... what you thought was the closet.
what it actually was was a secret set of stairs that the two of you fell down, leading to a small room that you've never seen before.
impossible. i've watched every virtual tour, studied every reconstruction plan, read every primary source document... and i've never heard of this room.
"great. now we're stuck in a dark, cramped, dusty room in the middle of a castle that's going to be searched any second now and it's all your fault-" eunseok ranted, stopping midway when he saw you staring bewildered at the room.
"what's wrong with you?" he poked your shoulder.
"i... didn't know this room existed." you whispered.
"it's an old castle, I'm sure there's plenty of secret rooms everywhere... you think this is where the servants used to smash?"
"shhh" you urged him, hearing distant footsteps.
"what are we gonna do?" he sighed.
"let's just lay low until they leave. I doubt they'll look for us here. and don't touch ANYTHING. this room might be undiscovered and contain hundreds of year's worth of preserved artifacts-"
you were interrupted by eunseok toppling over a candle.
"EUNSEOK!" you whisper-shouted. "I'm trying to get some light in here." he defended.
fishing in his pocket, he pulled out a lighter before picking the candle off the floor and lighting it. once the room was illuminated, you could see your surroundings much better.
the room was stacked with cabinets and shelves containing miscellaneous items, it must've been used for storage. it seemed to have some personal items that belonged to servants.
you heard the footsteps start to get closer, and a voice appeared right outside the closet doors. looking to eunseok, you began panicking.
"blow the candle out! now!" you whispered.
eunseok blew out the candle and right as he did, the door creaked open.
shit.
shit.
"I know my rights!" eunseok yelled at the foreign figure coming closer.
"what are you talking about?" a woman's voice echoed throughout the room.
a middle-aged woman appeared with a candle in hand, dressed in a long cloth dress, similar to the ones maids would wear centuries ago.
"are you some kind of role-play tour guide? I didn't even know they did those tours this late into the night." he asked, confused.
"what? why is he speaking like that? and why are you two alone in here? and what happened to your clothes?" the woman interrogated.
the both of you had messed up your clothes running through the castle and falling down the stairs. your shirt was ripped up and dusty and his jacket was covered in cobwebs.
"oh, I see. the two of you are following eleanor and harold's example and fooling around in here! how many times must I tell you kids not to fornicate in the storage closet! go back upstairs and fulfill your duties." she reprimanded the two of you.
"told you they fucked in here." eunseok whispered to you.
you shoved him in the arm before responding "ma'am I appreciate your dedication to your job, but can you just tell us if you're going to turn us into the cops or not?"
"what are the... cops?" she exaggerated. you fought the urge to roll your eyes. you might be obsessed with history, but at least you can accept the fact that you live in the present.
"let's just leave." you turned to eunseok. "and get arrested? absolutely not." he crossed his arms.
"who is getting arrested?" the woman gasped. "you know damn well who, lady." he scoffed.
"lady?! I'm simply a chambermaid! have you hit your head?" she exclaimed.
"you know what, you're right. I'd rather get arrested than deal with this crap any longer." he sighed as the two of you began making your way up the stairs.
when you reached the top, you noticed the decor had changed drastically and the windows were letting in sunlight. wasn't it just 1 in the morning?
men and women dressed in modest, cloth clothing were running in and out of the halls and rooms.
"y/n... what's going on?" eunseok tugged at your dirty shirt. "it must be some kind of role-play experience? I'm not sure... how long were we in there?"
"you two must change out of your soiled garments!" the elder woman said, handing you a long dress and eunseok a matching set.
"wait! what's your name, and what's going on?" you sputtered, just as the woman was about to walk away.
"now I'm sure you've hit your heads. I'm agatha, head chambermaid and in one week from now is the duel of knights. we are hosting for the first spell in a decade and tis in a week. now get up and get to work!" agatha demanded.
dumbfounded, you and eunseok simply stared at the clothes she handed you. "let's just go along with it. maybe we can pretend we're a part of whatever this is and avoid getting in trouble." you urged.
"what about the rest? won't they notice we're gone?" he worried. "let's just focus on getting out of here."
he nodded in response and the two of you rushed to find a place to change into your clothes. once you were changed, you walked out and led eunseok back to the secret entrance.
to your surprise, the parking lot that was once set up in front of the castle had been replaced with a moat. a large moat at that. with a ginormous drawbridge leading to a dirt path. the city looked different as well, with the cars being replaced with horse carriages and once large, gray buildings now appearing much smaller and made of stone and wood.
"is there some city-wide renaissance fair happening? are we getting pranked? where's the cameras?" eunseok whipped his head around, waiting to see john quinones pop up at any second.
"is this a dream? did i go unconscious during the fall down the stairs? quick, y/n! pinch me."
you did so eagerly.
"ow! what the hell? I didn't mean literally." he complained, rubbing his arm.
"will you shut up? i need to find out what's going on." you huffed. pulling out your phone, you saw that there was no signal or wi-fi network available nearby. "that's weird, I swore the website said the castle had guest wi-fi." you muttered.
"i have an international data plan, let me try," eunseok whipped out his phone, only to find there was no signal on his device either.
"do you think... maybe, we're actually back in the medieval times?" you shuddered.
eunseok never laughed louder in his life.
"yes, y/n. we time traveled like we're in back to the future! should I call you marty? or do you want to be the old scientist?" he cackled.
"his name is doc brown. and I'm being serious," you began, "how else would all these buildings change overnight, and why else would all these people be wearing clothes from a different time period. look around: there's not a phone, car, or even pavement road in sight. there's no way we were in the castle long enough for them to make all those changes either."
"let's just talk to an actual sane person here and I'm sure they'll explain everything." he assured.
just then, a young woman wearing a silk blue gown walked past, surrounded by two men in armor.
"excuse me, miss. sorry to interrupt your little role-play party but my friend and i were wondering if we could use your phone to make a quick call." eunseok asked.
one of the men rushed forward, "halt! how dare thee speak so freely to her highness, the crown princess."
eunseok rolled his eyes, "i'm not hitting on your chick, dude, i just want to use a phone."
the armor-clad man suddenly put his sword up to eunseok's neck. "what the hell?" eunseok exclaimed.
"release him! who are you sir and why doth thee use such... peculiar language?" the princess implored.
"you people are psychos. no way you're taking this shit so seriously." eunseok grumbled, rubbing his neck after the guard let him go.
"answer her highness!" the other guard insisted.
"we are travelers, here to observe the duel of knights! I must apologize for my companion, he is delirious from traveling all day." you interjected, grabbing eunseok and beginning to walk away.
"wait! your companion is… quite handsome. and his odd way of speaking is rather charming. i wish for him to compete for my hand during the duel!" the princess chirped.
"yeah right, you're crazy if you think I'm gonna-" eunseok was interrupted by your hand slapping over his mouth.
"whatever you wish, your highness." you responded, bowing curtly.
"wondrous! I would also like to invite thee to stay at my manor. surely a handsome man like you is a person of importance." she batted her lashes at him.
"no thanks weirdo-"
"we would love to! we thank you kindly for the offer your highness!" you interrupted eunseok again.
"oh I must have misspoke. I did not invite your mistress, only you." she spoke, shooting daggers at you.
"mistress?!" you gasped which made eunseok send you a shit-eating grin.
"actually, I would prefer my mistress stays with me, if that's alright 'your highness'" eunseok mocked.
the princess rolled her eyes and agreed reluctantly. once the princess and her guards were out of sight, you turned to eunseok. "see how those men didn't hesitate to hurt you? we're clearly in a different place!"
"yeah, a place where people have lost their minds." he scoffed.
"and her dress! it was real silk and embroidered with gold! I doubt a cosplayer has enough money to pull that off, especially in this economy." you tried convincing him.
"fine. lets say we really time-traveled to the 14th century and the princess wants me to join a little duel for her hand. does that mean...
... that i'm hot by both modern and medieval standards?"
you may not like eunseok, but he is quite attractive. it's no wonder his looks attracted the affections of a princess.
"eunseok! will you take this seriously? she wants you to participate in the duel of knights for her, do you understand how dangerous that is?" you practically screamed at him.
"yeah yeah the duel of knights is a fight to the death between the most skilled swordsmen of a kingdom for the right to court noblewomen and the princess. i know it may be hard for you to believe but i passed our medieval history class y/n." he quipped.
"and you realize you will be fighting those men to the death, right?" you asked.
"sure, i'll fight a bunch of history nerds in party city costumes." he chuckled.
you grabbed him by the arm and began pulling him in the direction of the city center… or what used to be the city center and now looked like a town square.
"we really need to talk- about boundaries because you-hey! can't keep dragging me around like a ragdoll-" he struggled as you continued tugging him into the busy streets.
"i'll stop when you quit being so stubborn. i'm gonna show you just how real this is." you stormed.
by the time you reached the city you were greeted with a sign that read 'SM's southern district' in big letters and below it in a smaller font was inscribed 'taverns, traders, and shops'.
perfect.
the two of you went inside a tailor's shop since you deduced that if you were going to pretend to be people important to stay at the castle, you should dress the part.
as soon as you stepped inside, the tailor called out "good morrow strangers, thou must be travelers from far hence."
"why yes, and we were-" you started before the tailor cut you off, "is there anything I may help you with, good sir?" he ignored you for eunseok.
you forgot that as fun as the medieval period was to learn about, it was hell to live through as a woman.
trying to bite your tongue, you waited for eunseok to respond.
"yeah, can we get some fancy clothes?" he asked nonchalantly.
you sent him a glare as the shopkeeper stared at him puzzled, "I'm afraid I do not understand your way of speaking."
"what he means to ask is if we may purchase some refined garments?" you asked, clearing your throat, only for the tailor to continue to ignore you.
sighing, eunseok repeated, "may we purchase some refined garments?" the tailor's head snapped up and he grinned, "of course, good sir! for the lady as well?"
"yes." you stated through gritted teeth. no response. "yes." eunseok repeated once again, to which the tailor nodded.
as the tailor went off to find some clothing for the two of you, you turned to eunseok, "I thought you were a history buff, how do you not know how to speak to these people?" you interrogated.
"first of all, i specialize in east asian history. second, I didn't think I'd ever actually have to rely on my shakespeare lessons from high school."
the tailor came back rather quickly with suits for eunseok and a few uncomfortable-looking but beautiful dresses for you. at least they didn't wear many corsets in medieval england.
"I shall fit them to the both of your measurements and you will be able to pick them up in a few days time. services included, the charge will be 30 pounds, good sir." the man said, awaiting eagerly for eunseok to pay.
"right... one second, good sir?" eunseok hesitated awkwardly, turning to you "you don't have any money, do you?"
"my wallet should be in my pocket... shit I left it when we changed our clothes in the castle. ask him if we can pay him when we come back to grab our clothes." you urged eunseok.
"how the hell do I say that?" he panicked. "just try your best!" you whisper-shouted.
turning back to the tailor, eunseok sputtered out "may we pay... in a few day's time... perchance?"
the shopkeeper looked confused before laughing, "doth thee wish to pay at which hour you come to pick up the garments?"
eunseok nodded vigorously which was enough to communicate the message across to the tailor.
once you left the shop, eunseok breathed a sigh of relief "okay, I believe you. we time-traveled, nothing makes sense, and I'll do anything to get back to the 2020s."
"let's head back to castle, grab my wallet, and we'll figure out what to do from there. we already have a place to stay anyway." you declared.
"if you weren't... yourself, I'd find it hot how calm and collected you are about this," he admitted. you shot him an annoyed look.
"sorry I don't know how to regulate my emotions... or my thoughts... or words. we traveled back in time. we're marty and the doctor guy." eunseok began rambling.
"it's doc brown. and calm down." you grasped his shoulders. "we're going to get out of here, because i need electric plumbing and I refuse to die of syphilis. but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy our time here. you and I both love history right? well now we get to experience it ourselves!" you exclaimed.
there's that look in her eye, the one she always gets when she's talking about history. I could stare at her forever... what the hell am I thinking? it's been a long day and I should get some rest.
you noticed eunseok spacing out while looking at you so you shook his shoulders a bit which jolted him awake, "so what do you say?"
"fine. let's experience your nerdy little medieval fantasy. but, we find out how to get out of here as soon as possible in the meantime." he agreed.
as you guys made your way back to castle, you were stopped by guards in front of the moat. "who art thee and what business doth thy have at riize castle?" a guard barked.
"we were personally invited by her majesty the princess to stay at the castle until the duel of knights." you reported. you saw the guard contemplating a bit before giving the other guards the signal to let you in.
breathing a sigh of relief, you headed towards the castle doors. after a few steps you realized eunseok hadn't moved from his spot.
"what are you doing? let's go back inside!" you scolded him. he looked completely pale and visibly shaken as he started towards you, "y/n. if we're really in medieval times... does that mean I have to fight during the duel of knights?" he fretted.
"i can't die yet. i haven't gotten cross-faded yet! do they even have weed here? I told myself once I leave korea I'd try it but what if I don't even get to experience that-" he began rambling once again.
you grabbed onto his hand, similar to how you did in the plane before trying to calm him down, "you won't die, because you won't fight anybody. we'll find a way to get back to our time before then, it's in a week so we have plenty of time. and you can always just try getting out of it by asking the princess!" you assured.
"you're right!" he exclaimed, squeezing your hand and pulling you into a hug. by the time you processed what was happening, you felt butterflies in your stomach.
that can't be right. butterflies... over eunseok? maybe I'm just touch-starved.
he pulled away rather quickly though, awkwardly trying to move past you to rush into the castle gates as if it would somehow undo his action.
fuck. did I make things awkward? did I kind of like the hug? wait-why do I care? we're just classmates who time-traveled together, nothing more and nothing less.
you followed after him until you reach the room you stumbled out of a few hours prior. digging through the pile of your old clothes, you were able to find your wallet.
fortunately, you exchanged some of your dollars for pounds at the airport. unfortunately, modern-day pounds look nothing like the ones they used in the 14th century.
"I don't think he'll even take these." you sighed, waving around the colorful bills with queen elizabeth's face stamped on them.
"we'll just say it's currency from... wherever we're from." he shrugged.
"and where's that?"
"uhhhh... america?"
"europeans haven't even heard of america yet." you rolled your eyes.
"which is why it'll work perfectly, they'll think it's some secluded, far away town." eunseok reasoned.
you don't know if it was eunseok's annoying presence or the lack of sleep you've had in the last 24 hours, but you felt a migraine coming on. massaging your temples, you decided you should take a nap before you try to find a way back to the future.
"let's get some rest, we can worry about everything else later." you yawned.
"where are we gonna sleep? the princess didn't even tell us which room we'd be staying in." he remarked.
"maybe we could ask agatha." you figured, walking towards the center hall.
"stop wandering off! we could get lost, this place is huge." eunseok argued.
"we won't. I know this place like the back of my hand." you assured.
"nerd." he commented, under his breath. for the sake of your sanity, you pretended you didn't hear anything.
with all the people rushing around the castle corridors it was nearly impossible to pinpoint agatha, and you ended up walking headfirst into the chest of a tall, handsome man wearing a padded shirt, usually worn by knights underneath their armor.
the man was slightly sweaty and holding a leather-wrapped sword in his hand, he must've been a knight coming back from training.
"art thou alright, madam?" the man asked. i am now.
eunseok let out a loud cough behind you, "she's fine. let's go, y/n."
"doth thou not recognize me? perhaps the two of you are not from here." the man reasoned.
"we're travelers, from... america." you hesitated.
"america? where is that?" the man questioned.
"tis a small town up north." you stated, trying to sound as sure of yourself as possible.
"makes sense." the man nodded "what business do you have in my castle. i've never seen you around, and I reckon I would remember a face as enchanting as yours."
am i getting hit on by a hot knight? maybe staying here isn't such a bad idea after all.
"your castle?" eunseok replied.
"yes. i am the crown prince, anton. now remind me again what you're doing in my castle?" anton asked.
"the crown princess invited us, my... brother here is to compete in the duel of knights." you quickly added.
"brother? I thought you were supposed to be my mistress-" eunseok started before you cut him off.
"do you know where the princess may be? she hasn't yet told us in which room we shall be staying." you asked the prince.
"ah, forgive my sister for she is very easily overexcited. I doubt she put much thought into housing you two as guests. I'd usually turn two strangers away, but you're an exception," he stared at you intently, "i'll arrange a room for the two of you shortly. in the meantime, would you care to join my family and I for dinner? it's the least we can do as hosts for you as you've traveled so far."
"we'd love to!" you exclaimed. "wondrous! I shall see you in two hours for dinner. the maids will help you to get ready." he smiled, kissing your hand before he walked away. you felt your cheeks heating up as you waved him goodbye.
"I thought you were tired. now you wanna have dinner with the royal family?" eunseok grumbled.
"eunseok, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. eating dinner in a castle with medieval royalty! how many people can say they've done that?" you beamed.
eunseok held back a smile as you gushed about the opportunity. why is she so cute today?
in a matter of minutes, a young woman approached the two of you, ushering you into a room.
"...here is the closet, and finally, the washroom. I shall give the two of you your privacy now." the woman bowed her head before exiting quickly.
"that was a quick tour." eunseok joked. "she must be busy preparing for the duel." you figured.
"ugh, don't remind me of the duel." he dramatically collapsed on the bed. "wait... is there only one bed?"
am I being lazy and using the one bed trope? guilty!
"I'm honestly too tired to care. scooch over." you shoved him to one side of the bed as you made yourself comfortable on the other. you wouldn't usually be so bold, but you were exhausted. after nearly getting arrested and getting stuck in the 14th century, you deserved a nap.
eunseok, on the other hand, was more wide awake than ever. he didn't want to look immature and get up the second you laid down, but he was even more nervous around you right now than usual.
looking over at your figure, he was shocked to see that you had already passed out. he couldn't hold back the small smile on his lips while watching you.
what the hell am I doing? I look like a creep. he thought, snapping himself out of his daze. deciding to wash up, he headed the the bathroom.
great. a large tub, a couple of buckets, and a hole in the ground. not a single source of running water in sight.
venturing out of the room, he tried calling one of the maids rushing past for some water but everyone seemed to be preoccupied.
annoyed, eunseok decided to try finding water himself. just because y/n's annoyingly obsessed with this castle and knows how to talk like these people, doesn't mean I'm completely lost without her.
after a few minutes of wandering around the castle, eunseok was completely lost.
unknowingly, he stumbled into the throne room while the princess was in the middle of receiving a lecture from her advisors.
"you mustn't invite complete strangers into the castle. do you understand how harmful that could be?" one of the advisors warned.
eunseok tried leaving as quietly as possible but it was to no avail as the princess spotted him almost immediately.
"you! traveler! what is your name?" she chirped, jumping up and heading towards him.
fuck.
"eunseok, your highness." he shared through gritted teeth.
"what an odd name! I suppose tis because thou are from a far away land. my brother told me you were from am-amiri? amera? what ever it's called." she rambled.
"i am princess giselle, and between you and i, you're my favorite contender for the duel of knights. oh how I hope you win and earn my hand." she gushed.
"i hope so too." he responded nervously.
"the prince told me the woman you were with is your sister, did you not refer to her as your mistress earlier... sir is your sister your mistress?" the princess gasped.
"umm, no! where I'm from we use the word mistress instead of sister. silly, isn't it?" he hesitated, holding his breath as he waited for giselle's reaction.
the princess burst into laughter, "how amusing! oh please don't die during the duel so you may make me laugh for the rest of my life." she cooed.
the hairs on the back of eunseok's neck stood up. even if he manages to survive the duel, he'll have to spend the rest of his life married to a loud-mouthed princess in a castle with no electricity.
I have to find a way to get out of this time.
"if you would excuse me, I should wake up my, er, sister for dinner!" eunseok mumbled, turning to walk away.
"nonsense! I'll have a servant do so. you may have the privilege of sitting with me until then." she assured.
"well, I was actually thinking of washing up before-"
"why would you need to wash up? you look perfectly clean." the princess interjected.
eunseok was anything but perfectly clean, but then again, that was by 21st century standards. in 14th century england, even royalty only bathed about once a month.
I can't believe it's gotten to this point, but I really wish y/n were here right now.
as princess giselle kept eunseok company, you were lightly shaken awake by a familiar figure: agatha. once you finally sat up, you heard her gasp.
"aren't you the servant from earlier? what are you doing in the guest bed?!" she shrilled.
"well... we're travelers invited by the princess. besides, it was you who assumed we were servants." you tried shifting the blame.
she put a hand above her heart, "goodness! that explains your odd clothing and speech. oh I apologize deeply. how can I make up for my terrible mistake?" she begged.
you felt bad seeing how apologetic agatha looked, but you remembered there was a favor you needed. "very well, then I demand full access to the storage room in the servant chambers." you declared.
agatha sent you a puzzling look, "what's so special about the storage room, my lady?"
well for starters, it's an opportunity for me to study a room never heard of by most historians. and a way for me to figure out how we got here, and hopefully, how to get home.
"i... liked it?" you said lamely. agatha simply nodded, "anything else?" she added.
"a piece of paper and a writing instrument, please."
"for your lord?"
right. most people, especially women, were illiterate during this time.
"um... yes!" you lied, not wanting to make yourself stand out anymore.
"I shall see to it." agatha dismissed herself.
as soon as she left the room, you collapsed back onto the bed. all you needed was some quality alone time-
the door burst open again, with a flock of servants pouring in. "we must prepare you for the dinner!"
for the next thirty minutes, you were stripped, clothed, had your hair done up in an elaborate hairstyle, and exposed to powders and cosmetics you were 99% sure were toxic. you almost didn't recognize yourself in the mirror, but you had to admit the dress was flattering and you might even copy the hairstyle when you get back to your time.
as annoying as it was, it was fascinating to experience everything you've read about in books up until now. the history nerd in you couldn't help but marvel at it all.
by the time you arrived at the dining room, you were greeted with the sight of eunseok sitting next to the princess, looking mildly irritated. you spotted an open seat next to the prince directly across eunseok and decided to sit there.
shooting the boy a small smile, you sat next to anton who immediately began talking to you.
eunseok took in your appearance, staring intensely at you.
she looks stupid... with her big hair, obnoxiously red lips, long gown, perfect smile-snap out of it!
"lord eunseok, why are you staring at your sister like that?" princess giselle asked loudly, catching your attention.
you turned your head quick enough to see eunseok staring at you with a look of... admiration? impossible.
he turned tomato red and cleared his throat, "I was... wondering what we'd be eating for dinner! I'm famished."
"once mother and father arrive, we may begin eating." prince anton assured. he turned to you, "tell me about your family, lady y/n. aside from your brother here, of course."
eunseok rolled his eyes. why's he so concerned with y/n? and why is this princess on my case?
after a few minutes of you and anton conversing and eunseok stealing glances of you while giselle talked his head off, the king and queen arrived.
you immediately got up and curtseyed to them, gesturing for eunseok to bow. "your majesty, tis my pleasure to dine with you." you resounded.
"my children have told me much about you. do tell me about this 'america'" the king mused.
the rest of the dinner consisted of you and eunseok making up ridiculous facts about america and your backgrounds. occasionally, you'd send each other knowing looks and have to stifle your laughs. it was the closest the two of you got to bonding this whole trip.
by the time the dinner came to a close, anton rose up slowly. "I wish to make an announcement." once he had everyone's attention, he continued, "I have completed my knight training this year, and I have father's word that I will be able to compete in the upcoming duel of knights."
"excuse me?" the queen cried out, "it is far too dangerous. and whose hand will you be competing for? your sister's?"
"of course not. I will be competing for lady y/n's hand."
"WHAT?" you and eunseok yelled in unison. "I understand this may come as a surprise to you, my sweet y/n, but I truly feel we have developed a connection."
we met two hours ago!!!
"NO!" you screamed, resulting in horrified looks on everyone else's face, "I mean... no, your highness. I could never expect you to put your life at risk for my hand, PLEASE reconsider." you begged.
"nonsense. the last ten knights left standing win the duel, and I am sure my son is capable of coming in tenth place at the very least." the king argued.
"charles, he is but a boy-" the queen began, angrily.
"he is twenty for christ's sake! I was even younger when I competed. there will no more discussion, anton will be competing for lady y/n's hand and lord eunseok will compete for giselle's." the king settled
fuck.
fuck.
"what the hell are we going to do?" eunseok panicked once the two of you were back in your room. "if we don't leave before next week, I'm going to die fighting for a girl I don't even want and you're going to get married to that guy!"
"you care about whether or not I get married to the prince?" you teased. "what? no, I- shut up." he deflected.
"relax. I got us unlimited access to the storage closet. whatever brought us here is in there, I know it. we'll look through it tomorrow and find out how to go home." you determined.
"and if we don't?" he gulped. "then we'll figure something out." you resolved, holding onto his shoulders. "we'll be alright, we have eachother." you smiled.
you couldn't explain why you were being so nice to the man you swore you hated just yesterday, but something about the vulnerability of your situation made you desperate to hold onto the only ally you have.
eunseok's heart rate increased in response to your words and close proximity, he couldn't help but stare at your lips. "they overdid it with the lipstick." he commented, mindlessly.
"it's a mixture of berries. and I know." you giggled.
before you could say anything else, eunseok began leaning in. his lips were on yours in a matter of seconds, and it felt completely natural.
your friends always joked that the two of you were just covering up sexual tension with the whole rivalry thing, and you're embarrassed to admit you may have fantasized about kissing eunseok before, but you never in a million years thought it would actually happen.
the kiss was slow yet passionate, there was an unprecedented amount of emotion in it, you felt like you were drowning in it.
eunseok was on cloud nine, it was better than any other kiss he's ever had. his hands wandered to hold your waist tightly as yours flew to his hair.
you don't know how long the kiss has lasted so far, but you know that you never want it to end.
except it does. when the prince and princess walk in on the two of you.
as soon as you heard princess giselle scream, the two of you pulled away, but it was too late. they had seen enough.
"you people are sick! I should have known it when you said you call your sisters your mistresses!" the princess cried out.
before she could say another word, you and eunseok dragged the siblings inside and shut the door. "what the hell are we going to do now?" eunseok frantically whispered to you.
"we have to come clean." you said, which eunseok shook his head 'no' to almost immediately.
"anton, giselle, we lied to you." you confessed while eunseok stayed silent.
"I knew it! there is no america. are you thieves? or spies? who sent you?!" giselle accused.
"there is an america, and we did come from there. but we came from a different america than the one that exists today... we're from the future." you shared.
it didn't take long for both siblings to burst into laughter. "the future? do you take us for fools?" anton choked out.
"it's true! eunseok, show them your phone." you insisted. he pulled out his phone and tapped the screen, causing it to illuminate.
"sorcerers!" giselle screeched.
"it's not sorcery, it's technology! it's made from various metals and allows you to communicate with people across large distances." you explained.
"sounds like sorcery to me." anton commented.
"y/n, you've spent years studying this stupid castle, don't you know anything about the residents? there has to be some information you have on the royal family that could convince them." eunseok looked to you.
"well I wasn't able to study much on these two because they both died young..." you said quietly.
"WHAT?" giselle screamed. "how dare you even suggest that?" anton stood up angrily.
"the records I read said you passed away during the duel of knights when you were 20 and that giselle was unable to take over the throne afterwards because she disappeared one night and was presumed dead... but some say she fell in love with a commoner and eloped with him." you shared.
this caused giselle to gasp loudly, "you... i... i believe them."
"how?" anton interjected, "she just said I'll die and you'll elope with a commoner. you show interest in every nobleman you come across and get over them in a matter of days. there's no way you'd fall in love with a common man and elope."
"I've been pretending to be boy-obsessed so nobody finds out that i..." giselle hesitated "i'm in love with mark."
"the stable boy?" anton cried out. "he always mentions the possibility of eloping but I never took it seriously-" she began.
"you two can sort out whatever's going on with mark later, can we go back to y/n and I time-traveling?" eunseok interrupted.
"how did you even end up here?" anton asked.
"in our time, your castle is a historical monument. eunseok and I managed to sneak in, but we were about to get caught so we hid in a storage room. when we emerged, we were transported to your time." you explained.
it took the siblings a while to process your story, but they agreed to help the two of you find a way to get back to your time. once everything was settled, anton asked to speak to you privately--which eunseok did not like.
"I'm sorry for lying, anton, I was just trying to avoid getting in trouble." you apologized, breaking the awkward silence.
"I understand. I've been meaning to ask about you and eunseok. are the two of you...?" he began.
"I don't know what we are. this whole day has been confusing for the both of us." you answered honestly.
"right." he replied, sadly. "well, I wanted to ask you specifically about my death. does the future really say I die in the upcoming duel?"
"i'm sorry anton... i know how excited you are for it."
"excited? i'm dreading it." he chuckled dryly. "i've only ever shown interest in being a knight because of my father. he was a knight back in his day, that's how he courted my mother and became king."
"wait, so you don't want to compete in the duel?" you queried.
"absolutely not! I'm terrified. I've always wanted to be a writer, but my father told me I have no time for silly dreams like that. I'm the heir to the throne, after all."
I feel horrible, most of the documents i read mentioned anton as an eager knight-in-training, but I guess history books aren't always accurate.
you grabbed anton by the hand and began taking him back to where eunseok and giselle were.
"so you really don't think I'm handsome?" you overheard eunseok asking giselle. "you're okay-looking... but I just needed a cover-up for my late-night rendezvous with mark." she shrugged as eunseok's face fell.
"eunseok. giselle. we need to do something before we go back in time." you announced.
"and what's that?" eunseok responded.
"we're getting anton out of the duel of knights." you declared.
"but how? father is adamant on him competing." giselle protested, "and I doubt he'll believe your time-traveling story."
"we'll just have to figure out a way." you said stubbornly.
although eunseok and giselle seemed uneasy, anton sent you a grateful look which was enough.
the next few days were spent with you and eunseok exploring the storage room and you writing down as much as you could about the contents of the room as well as the royal family.
eunseok agreed to help giselle meet with mark in secret and you agreed to help anton with his writing. in return, the siblings helped you look through the castle library on anything related to time-travel.
to avoid the awkwardness of sleeping in the same bed with eunseok after the kiss, anton offered up his room and slept with him instead.
there was now four days left until the duel, and you still had no idea how to get back or take anton out of the competition. anton and eunseok seemed to get a lot closer though, either through sharing a room or the mutual dread of having to fight to the death in a few days time.
"y/n, can I speak with you. it won't take up much time." giselle asked you. "of course, what's up?" you responded.
"what's up?" she repeated, "what is the matter." you corrected yourself. you and eunseok let down your guard when it came to speaking in old english since the siblings already knew your secret anyway.
"you said in the future, I disappear. mark keeps asking to elope, especially with the duel of knights approaching as many men will be aiming for my hand." she worried, "I'm scared, y/n. I don't wish to leave but I don't wish to lose my beloved either. what do I do?"
you honestly had no idea. maybe it was a bad idea telling them their fates, but if i can try helping them avoid it, I should.
"I think you should try telling your parents. how bad could it be?" you said, stupidly.
"are you serious? they would murder him and i for even suggesting it. royals and commoners don't belong together, of course you wouldn't understand." she stormed.
"okay, okay I'm sorry. I really don't understand. I'm used to modern royalty, where the prince of england married an actress and left the royal family, then got to go on oprah." giselle shot you a confused look, "but if you never try, you'll never know."
"i suppose you're right. but I'm far too terrified of my parents." she sighed. before you could respond, eunseok called out to you, ushering you and giselle to join him and anton.
"we found a way to get out of the duel!" he shared excitedly.
"and how is that?" giselle asked, unconvinced.
"knights are covered head-to-toe in armor, right? we'll just pay two knights to replace us! anton said he's got the money covered."
"yes, I have the money covered, as they say in future america." anton added enthusiastically.
"and you've already found these knights?" you asked, "how do you know they won't tell the king?"
"we did, and anton made them swear because they are under an oath to serve him." eunseok shared proudly.
"don't you think that's a bit wrong, abusing your power? and what's gonna happen at the end of the duel when you have to take your helmets off?" you badgered.
"will you stop being such a baby, y/n? we'll tell them to keep their helmets on, and both you and giselle will be there anyways so you can cover for us." he argued.
"well i'm sorry that I want to make sure your little plan is foolproof so you don't, y'know, die." you fumed.
and just like that, the two of you began arguing again. giselle and anton gave each other a worried look before rushing out of the room, leaving the two of you yelling at each other.
"you're getting a bit too comfortable here, don't you think?" you scoffed.
"comfortable?! you think I want to spend the rest of my life in the 14th fucking century?" eunseok retorted.
"well you've barely been any help in looking for a way back. i've been the only one searching that stupid room for any traces of how we got here!"
"maybe because we've been searching that room for four days and haven't found anything. excuse me for trying to make sure I don't die before I find a way to travel back, if there even is a way."
you stepped closer to him, still seething "you piss me off to no end, song eunseok. you're the last person I wish I was trapped with in this stupid century!"
"do you really think you're my perfect idea of a travel buddy? my life is a mess, all thanks to you!" he snapped.
"I didn't ask you to follow me like a crazed stalker, did I? so why did you?"
eunseok finally went quiet. it seems like he didn't really know the answer either.
you were irritated, but you didn't want to keep arguing, so you decided to walk away before he started up again, "I'm going to town to pick up our clothes from the tailor."
up until now you've been wearing the servant clothes agatha brought you to bed and borrowing the royal sibling's clothes during the day. it'll be nice to finally have our own sets of clothing.
you tried to organize your thoughts but you were still thinking of eunseok. it's not like you haven't argued with him before, but they've never been so... personal.
it pained you to say but his words hurt you. you don't know when you started caring about what eunseok has to say but some time along the last four days you've been trapped here, you started to feel more strongly about him.
and you definitely can't forget about the kiss. you can't believe the two of you just acted completely normal after that. you were too scared to bring it up and so was eunseok.
he's so confusing. one day we're making out and the next we're screaming at each other... and it doesn't help that I can't read him at all.
by the time you were done reflecting on your entire relationship with eunseok, you reached the tailor's shop. walking in, you greeted one of the workers there before informing them of your prior visit.
as the worker brought out your clothes, he held his hand out waiting for the payment.
shit. I didn't bring any money. and it's not like the money I had would've done much anyway.
"I-um, I don't think I can give you the payment just yet," you stuttered, nervous.
"why not?" the worker asked, already putting the clothing back.
"because-"
"because i'll be paying." you heard a familiar voice ring from behind you. what is he doing here?
eunseok walked past you and handed over the old-timey pounds to the worker, taking the sets from him in the process.
once the transaction was finished he walked past you and out of the shop, completely ignoring you. confused, you caught up to him.
"did you seriously follow me again? what's your problem?!" you exploded on the street, catching the attention of nearby townsfolk.
"I saw that you left your wallet and didn't even bother asking for money from the prince or princess. you're welcome for saving you the embarrassment and a trip back-and-forth from the castle." he retorted, stopping to turn to you.
"I don't want to argue. not right now, and not in public." he sighed "good. because neither do i." you sassed, walking past him deeper into the district center.
he rolled his eyes and continued after you, "where are you going?"
"does it matter? or were you planning on stalking me again." you retaliated.
i should just leave her alone if she's going to be so difficult... but this place is sketchy and confusing, and it's getting dark.
"I don't think it's safe to walk around alone here, it's almost sunset." he called out.
"I'm a grown woman, I can handle myself." you refused.
"fine." eunseok said, turning to walk back to the castle.
you spent the next two hours making a mental map of the district, excited to write all about it later. you had to admit this was a much more fun way to learn about history than sitting around with a textbook and reading all day.
unfortunately for you, there weren't any clocks around, so it was easier to lose track of time. you figured it must be around 9 p.m. and decided to head back to the castle.
after about 15 minutes of wandering the streets, you realized you were lost.
fuck. I can't believe I'm about to prove eunseok right. whatever, he's probably living it up at the castle, especially since I'm not there.
on the contrary, eunseok was worried sick. "what if she was kidnapped, or fell down a well or something?" he ranted to anton.
"we shall find her, there's no need to worry." anton assured as they headed out the castle gate.
as the two of them began walking, eunseok couldn't help but overthink.
I shouldn't have let her walk away. and I can't believe the last conversation we had was an argument. what if something bad happened to her? how will I forgive myself?
eunseok doesn't know when or how he became so worried about you, but what he did know was his heart was pounding just thinking about you.
"what... relationship do you and y/n share?" anton inquired as they walked. "we're just school peers." eunseok answered coldly.
anton laughed in response, “peers do not thrust their tongues into each other's mouths."
eunseok's ears turned red upon hearing the younger boy's comment.
"they also wouldn't worry as much as you are right now." anton added.
"she's my ticket back to the 21st century, of course I'm on edge. I need her help finding the way home." eunseok shrugged.
"whatever you say." anton smiled.
"are you into her or something?" eunseok asked, trying to sound casual.
"pardon me?"
"do you wish to wed her?" eunseok sighed. I'm definitely not gonna miss these shakespearean conversations.
"well... she is strikingly beautiful... and strong, and intelligent, and-"
"okay I get it." eunseok cut him off, erupting another laugh in anton.
"but she seems to only have eyes for you. besides, I'm a bit more preoccupied with the duel as of now." anton commented carelessly.
she has eyes for me? eunseok thought to himself again and again until they reached a nearby tavern.
it was then that the pair spotted your figure arguing with a clearly drunken man. before he knew it, eunseok rushed to your side to defend you from the man until he heard your conversation.
"you've gone mad if you think euripides is anywhere close to sophocles!" you yelled.
"you're the mad one, sophocles couldn't have written medea but euripides could have easily written oedipus rex in his sleep!" the man yelled back.
of course she's arguing over history. what a nerd.
"pardon us sir." eunseok interjected, dragging you away by the arm.
"hey! I wasn't finished. and stop dragging me." you ripped your arm away. "now you know how I feel." eunseok scoffed.
"y/n! are you alright?" anton asked. "yes, I'm fine. and I was just about to make my way back to the castle." you asserted.
"point in the direction of the castle." eunseok challenged. you pointed in a random direction hoping it would be somewhat close.
"you were going to head north, further into the town when the castle is down south." eunseok smirked.
if he didn't look so good right now I'd smack that smirk right off his face.
the walk back to the castle was dead silent, with poor anton making the occasional comment trying to spur conversation, but you and eunseok weren't having it.
when you finally reached the castle, anton excused himself leaving you and eunseok alone.
sighing, eunseok broke the silence first, "I was worried about you."
you whipped your head up. did i hear that right?
"I don't hate you. I hope you know that." he went on.
"I don't hate you either." you added. for the first time in a long time you looked at him in the eye.
the tension was palpable, but before you could act on any of your emotions, eunseok turned away. "goodnight, y/n." he walked off.
ouch. I know I said I wanted him to leave me alone, but not like this.
time passed by until it was the morning of the duel. you and eunseok had been growing even more desperate to find a way back home, and giselle and anton were getting even more nervous about the duel approaching.
eunseok had remained distant since that night, and although you hadn't argued since then, you also haven't really spoken much.
you missed him, but you had more important things to focus on.
as the knights began suiting up, you and giselle headed to your seats at the top of the arena. the arena was full of thousands of people, ranging from commoners to nobles.
if everything went to plan, the knights pretending to be anton and eunseok would win the duel, one of them would pretend to be injured and the other would carry them off into the stables where they would switch places with the real eunseok and anton.
of course, nothing ever goes according to plan. 'eunseok' was slain within the first ten minutes.
despite you having no connection to them, it hurt you to see young men lose their lives for a tradition meant to please the rich and powerful. and it hurt even more knowing that this tradition would continue for a few more centuries.
however, not everyone else shared your sympathies, as the majority of the crowd cheered excitedly with each kill. that was... until 'anton' was slain an hour in.
the entire arena went silent and the king jumped out of his seat, "stop the tournament! stop it now!"
oh shit.
the king ran down to check on his 'son' only to reveal a complete stranger under the helmet. still teary-eyed, the king roared "what is the meaning of this?"
we're screwed. we're so so screwed.
just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, the real eunseok and anton entered the arena, assuming the silence meant it was over.
"son! what have you done? answer me, boy!" the king seethed. "i... i don't wish to be a knight." anton confessed, eliciting gasps from the crowd.
"what on earth has gotten into you? is it that boy next to you influencing you?"
"no! I never wanted it. you know I've always wanted to pursue writing-"
"nonsense. you are to be a king. and a king is to be able to fight for his people. will words on paper solve wars? no. only a sword will protect your throne."
dejected, anton nodded before eunseok interrupted, "weren't you just crying over your son's death?"
another round of gasps travelled through the arena. "how dare you speak to me that way? I should have your head cut off!"
"all I'm saying is, if anton listened to you and fought, he'd be dead right now. is forcing him into combat worth losing your son?" eunseok reasoned.
the king faltered for a moment before recovering, "he is not enough of a man to look me in the eye and you want me to let him pursue his childish fantasies?"
in that moment, anton snapped, raising his head, "if I am to be heir to the throne than you will treat me as such. my whole life I've done what you wanted me to do, and look how that would have ended," he paused, pointing at the corpse on the floor.
"father, i assure you I am grown enough to discern what I want and don't want. and what I don't want is a life of a knight. I am not an extension of you, I am my own person, and most importantly, I am a writer." anton concluded.
the crowd erupted into cheers at the prince's heroic delivery until giselle ran down, seemingly inspired.
oh no.
"and I am in love with a stable-boy!" she declared loudly.
just like that, the arena was dead silent again and the king went red with anger.
"this is all your fault!" he pointed at eunseok "you, and that sister-mistress of yours!"
the crowd began murmuring, confused.
"guards, execute them!" he declared.
now you were definitely screwed.
you saw eunseok running out the back as giselle and anton held their father back. panicking, you ran through the back of the arena, meeting up with eunseok.
"what the hell are we going to do?" he panted. you grabbed onto his hand and began running into the castle. you're not sure why, but your gut was telling you to head to the storage room.
once you reached the room, eunseok whispered "won't this be the first place they'll look for us?"
" just hurry up and light the candle, I have to grab my papers." you rushed. he found a set of matches and lit the candle as you frantically searched for all your research.
you heard voices gathering around the outside of the door.
"y/n. if we really do die, I need to tell you something." eunseok began dramatically.
"I love-"
he was interrupted by a banging noise on the door. you quickly blew the candle out, hoping the darkness would somehow make the two of you invisible.
but it was too late, the door flew open, and a man came down the stairs holding a... flashlight?
"stop there! london police, you are under arrest for trespassing."
"what?" you muttered, confused.
"oh my-OH MY GOD. we're back... we're back! what year is it?" eunseok asked the officer desperately.
"are you two on some sort of narcotics?" the officer asked.
the two of you were then escorted to the police station where your group supervisor had to bail you out. you and eunseok were grinning ear-to-ear the entire time.
you were informed that you couldn't go on the tour as a result of your trespassing and you couldn't care less. "I know how much you were looking forward to it, are you sure you'll be okay?" your friend asked, worried.
"I'll be fine! go enjoy it for me." you assured. I'm sick of that damn castle anyway.
after taking a long, warm bath, you settled onto the hotel couch before hearing a knock on your door.
opening it, you were greeted with the sight of an awkward eunseok.
"hey... can I come in?" he asked, nervous. "yeah." you smiled.
"I'm still trying to convince myself that was all real." he chuckled.
"me too." you breathed "but at least it's all behind us."
"yeah, thank goodness." he agreed.
"what was it you were saying before we got arrested?" you asked innocently.
"um- I was saying, i... wonder whatever happened to giselle and anton! surely there's some more information on them now that anton survived the duel." he changed the topic.
"you're right!" you exclaimed, rushing to your computer to google their names.
"it says here that the king passed away from a heart attack due to shock and anton inherited the throne, but he didn't want it so he passed it onto giselle. he went on to become a successful writer and giselle married a common man named mark, they had a son and a daughter named... eunseok and y/n!"
"you think they're sister-mistresses?" eunseok joked.
"gross. anyways, anton's most famous book is called across centuries and it's about a pair of lovers that time traveled." you gasped.
"well that definitely can't be about us, we're far from lovers." he laughed.
"right..." you agreed quietly.
"well, I guess that now that we're out of the medieval period, I can get out of your hair." eunseok began, standing up.
"wait." you spoke up suddenly. if giselle and anton could confess in front of an entire kingdom, than i can confess to a single guy.
"eunseok, i..." you began.
fuck. I can't bring myself to finish my sentence.
"you what?" he asked.
"I'm..."
"are you alright?"
"no! yes-i mean no?" you sputtered.
"i'm gonna go let you rest." he nodded, slowly backing away.
"I love you! I'm in love with you. please-please don't leave yet." you practically begged.
eunseok's jaw fell to the floor.
"I don't know how or when I started feeling this way, and I get it if you don't feel the same way but I had to tell you. I'm-"
you were interrupted by eunseok's lips crashing onto yours, and for once you didn't mind the interruption.
"will you be mine, lady y/n?" he asked dramatically, shortly after you two parted from the kiss.
"why yes, my knight in shining armor." you laughed.

He got the call at the halfway point of crossing the English Channel, Northern France behind him and Southern England just on the horizon line as the sun began to spread its orange glow over the waves. Sitting high above the water in a slick black Heli, John Price’s hand snaps to his side pocket, fingers deftly peeling back the layers as the overwhelming sound of helicopter blades shakes the hull.
The rest of Task Force 141 watch with varying interest, only Gaz taking notice of the sudden frown that mars his Captain’s face; the furrowed brow, and the spark of concern in his eyes. A call was unusual. The Sargeant tries not to intrude, but can’t help the way his body lightly shifts so he can have a better view.
John doesn't bother to look at the contact when he takes the device out, rapidly pressing the answer button and slotting the phone at his ear, tilting his head so his opposite rests at the junction of his shoulder. It only stops a fraction of the noise, even so, it would have to do for now. But with how his ears were already straining to find a sound over the line, he may not need to force out the jarring racket after all.
Inside his chest, John’s heart is racing – confusion laces his mind. This was abnormal.
I told her only to call if it was an emergency. What could she have gotten herself into now? I said to stay out of trouble…
“Where are you?!” The Brit has to shout down the line, his familiar deep accent loud and guttural.
His mind flies through every possibility. An intruder had broken into the house, you had broken your arm falling down the stairs again, or a fire had broken out in the kitchen. Fuck…he was too far away to help if anything bad had happened. John’s jaw clenches, eyes looking out over the water as the bucket hat on his head flops in the wind. It was only a product of his job that made him think like that; years of intuition and thinking on the fly leading to his mind making up the worst scenarios.
Especially when you called on a secure line when he told you it was only appropriate for life-and-death situations. Especially when it was his little girl.
I told ‘er about the Pistol in my office, yeah? The Captain asks himself with a steel-like resolve. And gave her Laswell’s number?
John’s fingers tighten over the phone when he hears your breath over the line, a shuffling of clothes, and a deep exhale.
“Sunshine!” He tries again, sitting up straighter as his pulse gets faster. Why isn’t she answering me? “Where are you right–”
“We don’t have anything for breakfast.” Your voice is heavy with sleep; fatigue drowning the syllables and holding them under the very waves that rage under John only separated by thin sheets of metal.
The Brit stops. His body freezes, and as the tense minutes go by his panic falls away and leaves a thick stain of annoyance resting behind his eyelids. Of course. John brings two fingers to his nose bridge, digging into the skin until tiny crescent moons are left behind; he has to take a deep breath before answering, but his tone leaves nothing to the imagination.
“...Breakfast…?”
“Yeah, Old Man, you need me to spell it for you? B-R-E-A-K-F-A–”
“Enough!” John barks stiffly and has to hold back his anger as you laugh from the other side. Ever the jokester – did you not realize how serious this was? How fast your father’s heart was racing with adrenaline?
Fuck, he had just about been ready to radio the cockpit and force the pilots to fly faster.
Across the way, Ghost locks eyes with the man, and with a tilt of his head and a loud call he asks, “That the Mutt?”
The Captain’s eyes slip back into a firm blank slate.
“Affirm.” John tilts the phone away from his mouth, ignoring your sarcastic comments to catch his sanity for a moment and respond to his Lieutenant.
Simon blinks as Johnny perks up at his side, looking in from the view in favor of the Captain with newfound interest. A bright smile forms over his scruffy cheeks
“She all good?” The skeletal man asks, and Gaz smirks lazily tapping his fingers over his knee, immediately noticing your shenanigans and the way the Cap was so worked up.
But anyone would be when they had a daughter thousands of miles away.
John simply nods once with an exasperated expression to Ghost. MacTavish snorts out a laugh, knowing the context of the situation without having to think hard.
“Is that Uncle Simon?” You ask, and with a scratch at his beard, your father hums in confirmation, letting the sound of your voice put him more at ease. She’s just fine. “Tell him I want him to come over and play Mario Cart with Gaz, Johnny, and me again! He wiped the floor with ‘em last time!”
There’s a clinking of pots and pans as you move throughout the house.
“Sweetheart,” Your father grumbles, sighing through the call. His voice takes on the authoritative tone that works for both soldiers and teenagers – but it rarely works on you, despite that fact. Took after your dad too much, is what John would say. Never listened until it was absolutely necessary. “What did I tell you about callin’ this phone when I’m away from the house?”
He hears your scoff and raises a warning eyebrow, though you can’t see it. You know your dad enough to know he’s doing it despite being separated. It was pretty common.
“Not to, unless it’s an emergency…But I’d say food is a big enough reason, y’know? Unless you want me to eat the leftover cake for breakfast – which I haven’t thrown out as a possibility yet, honestly.”
“You’re not eatin’ bloody cake for breakfast. You’ll get sick.” Gaz snickers, turning his face away to hide the amusement at the comment.
It hadn’t been a surprise that the Captain’s daughter was such a familiar creature – they saw traits reflected every time the two were together. Everyone had expected her to take after her old man in nearly everything, and when she had they had bumped fists and prayed for the brown-bearded man. But it was funny nonetheless, considering they got along better than most fathers and daughters; practically reading each other's minds when everyone was playing poker. Johnny was still pretty ticked off about that – he’s a good deal deep into the sweets debt he owes you because Price helps you win. But where they really shined was with the shared deadpan attitudes, bottom-of-the-barrel sarcasm, and knowing how to command a room without even trying. Safe to assume that the rest of the team would do anything for you.
“Will not.” You grumble in retaliation, and John’s lips threaten to tilt into a grumpy smile when he hears you put the cake plate back into the counter.
Letting the tension fall from his shoulders, the brown-haired man takes a glance outside, watching the waves go bright orange as they lap and writhe like great sea serpents.
“How long have you been up, eh? The sun’s barely risen. Thought Sunday was when you always slept in?”
There’s a pause in what John believed were fingers digging through a cupboard, and he narrows his eyes in confusion as the silence grows long. He frowns when you speak again, words so quiet he has to place a hand over his other ear to hear properly. Having half a mind to go and tell the pilots to hurry up and go faster so he can just talk to his little girl in person, he refrains, knowing that’s not how this works. But something was wrong – it had been laced in your previous words, as tiny and unnoticeable as it may have been. Only a father would notice it.
“You said you were gonna be home last night. I stayed up.” It takes a moment of halted breathing before John’s eyes widen, blues full of realization.
Oh.
…Damn it. He lets out the tense breath of air from his lips, shifting in his seat as the gear around his body weighs him down. His gun digs into his chest.
He hadn't seen you for over a week – leaving you in the care of a close and trusted neighbor, Mrs. Lilly, just as he always had when he needed to leave for work on short notice. But seeing as you were older now, it became apparent that, with your learned independence, staying at the house by yourself was alright as long as you checked in with the neighbor every morning and night. You had been waiting for him to come home. All alone. In the dark.
Fucken’ hell, John thinks in a deep layer of guilt as wrinkles overtake his forehead, I did tell her I’d be back yesterday. I forgot to call and tell ‘er. Shit! He didn’t want to imagine the stress that had been put on your shoulders. God, what’ve I done?
Not checking in was something he had never missed before – he always told you when he was about to come back. What had gone wrong this time? How had something that important just slipped his mind? Sure the Op had been tedious, but he was trained to handle it. It was no excuse.
“Sweetheart,” John starts and then pauses the soft and gentle endearment, knowing that an apology didn’t fit into what you were looking for. You didn’t want an ‘I’m sorry’ right now, you wanted your father. Flattening his lips into a line, he continues, wishing he was with you more than ever so he can press a kiss to your forehead. “...I should be back before 1200. How about when I get back I’ll cook you up somethin’ myself, yeah? Or we can go to that Cafe you like down on Newman Street and I’ll get you whatever you want.”
“...When do you have to go back?” You don’t answer his question, and yours makes his heart hurt.
John clears his throat.
“None of that, now. We’ll talk more when I get back, Darling, alright?” You don’t respond, but he hears you sigh and quietly scoff under your breath. “Alright?” He tries again, head tilting forward and eyebrows rising as if you could see him. Maybe you could.
“Fine. But you better make me pancakes. I don’t care if it’ll be noon.”
“Pancakes it is.” The Captain looks up in time to see Johnny mouthing words to him, and with a blank face and stiff lip, your father mutters with a grunt, “Johnny says ‘hello.’”
Your shocked snort makes him feel better, but a layer of guilt still stays. You were awake all night waiting for him, and he never showed up. Did you sleep on the couch? Damnit, he hoped you didn’t…but in his rattling chest knew you had. He found you like that every time he came back from a long stay away. Huddled under blankets, no pillow under your head. Sometimes you steal one of his shirts and hold it like a stuffed bear to your chest, shoving your face into it.
How could I forget to fucken’ call her?
Your voice takes him out of his growing self-resentment.
“Tell him to watch his back – I’m getting better at Rainbow Road. Soon enough I’ll be able to beat him in a 1V1!” John can’t help the slow chuckle that bounces in his throat, mind, for the moment, at ease as long as you continue to speak to him.
“I’ll be sure to pass it along. But, eh,” The Brit makes sure he speaks slowly, letting you hear every syllable of his next words. “Promise me you’ll stay at the house until I get there. No goin’ out with friends, yeah? You know how I worry.” John ignores the teasing look from Gaz and peeks out again to see how close they were to the mainland with narrowed lids. “‘Specially when I’m not there.”
Getting back to the Base wasn’t the problem, it was the damn reports coming in that would wring his neck before he could get out the door. But he’d push it off for however long he could; call in favors from Laswell to get him more time with his little girl so he can fix his mistake. As a dad, the only thing that counted was seeing his daughter after a seemingly unending Op that he didn’t want to relive. The hardest part wasn’t the blood or the guts – it was being away from you. Nothing would ever change that, even if he was the one on the ground gritting his teeth at the bite of a bullet.
“Scout’s honor, Old Man.” The happiness in your voice makes him smile to himself.
“Stop calling me that, Muppet.” John grumbles affectionately, rolling his eyes, “I’ll give you a call when back I’m in town, Sunshine. Make sure the door’s locked–”
“--Locked, the windows too, plus, if someone knocks on the door I need to look through the peephole and if I don’t recognize them don’t open it…Am I missing anything?”
“Mind yourself, now you’re just being cheeky, you are.” John teases, scoffing, but proud that you remembered his rules. It made all of this just a bit more manageable.
“Who do you think I got it from?” You laugh, but it tapers off sullenly, “Just…get home safe, okay, Dad?”
John’s beard pulls back into a soft close-lipped grin, eyes crinkling as his heart warms. He so desperately wanted to ruffle your hair.
“Of course, Hun. But, eh, take a nap. It’s still early, and I know you’ve got schoolwork to do later. You sound like you’re about to keel over where you stand.” You scoff before agreeing with a muttered grumble, most likely already stumbling to the living room couch, and then the line goes silent and is replaced once more by the whirring of the helicopter blades.
The man peels back the phone and pockets it, hand unconsciously brushing his breast pouch where a picture of the two of you always sits. It was a baby picture, with your little form held in his grip delicately; looking down at you with soft eyes and an easy smile on his lips that always formed when he was with you. From under a soft blanket, your tiny hand reaches out to try and brush his stubbily cheek.
It never failed to bring him ease when he realized the photo was there. A reminder that if everything else in his life went horribly wrong, you would still be looking up at him with those eyes of yours. At the very least, he had managed to do one thing right.
“She’ll be fine. She’s a good kid.” Gaz calls at him, and John spares him a glance out of the side of his eye with a raised brow.
“I know she is. I’m the one who raised her.”
You remember eating a piece of toast before you made your way over to the couch, throwing your phone to the coffee table haphazardly before tossing yourself onto the cushions. Still in your pajamas, you can’t find it in you to go and grab the homework in your backpack this early. The sun had only just risen, and the bags under your eyes reminded you how late you stayed up last night.
But your father had never shown up.
Frantic was too light a word to describe the feeling you had when your eyelids had peeled back to the empty living room and the TV still playing. It had been second nature to snatch your phone and call the secure line – half of you had said it was better to call Laswell, just in case, but your adolescent brain had wanted nothing more than to hear your father’s voice.
He would make it better. But you needed to hear his voice.
Dad, you remembered pleading to yourself as the sound of the dial tone echoed in your ear, please answer the phone. Please. Answer the fucking phone.
Your heart was pounding; hands shaking. He never just didn’t show up when he said he was going to. Never. Your dad was punctual – always on time no matter what – and he had ingrained the same sentiment in you as well.
When his deep voice finally bounced in your eardrums you nearly started to cry, missing the first hurried and concern-filled inquiry of where you were. Hearing his voice put you at ease, and after a week of missing your father’s strong presence and his warm hugs, it was hard not to take a shaky inhale when he seemed so close.
You just wanted him home; you wanted him to make you pancakes and help you with your schoolwork. You wanted him to read a book to you on this couch like you were a toddler again while his old record player was on in the background.
It was childish, getting so worked up about it, but your dad meant the world to you. Not having him here felt wrong.
Sighing, you rub at your eyes and revel in the darkness before letting out a strained yawn, grabbing the blanket from the back of the couch and pulling it over your body. It didn’t take long before your eyes were flickering shut, a calm quiet settling over the house as cars passed by outside in the street. You pull the blanket closer and breathe, inhaling pine needles and ash.
You don’t know how long you were there, twitching in your sleep before the scent woke you up – it makes your nose scrunch, eyelids blinking away fuzz. There was a pillow under your head, the blanket wrapped tight around your neck to keep out the London chill, and a clanking of pans in the kitchen. Scraping spatula over cast iron, you knew, the sizzling of batter.
The haze of that in-between state, sleep and consciousness fighting in the back of your skull and under your hairline, stays even as you try to force it away. It was like a wave – it constantly pulled you under when you thought you were getting to the surface. Your eyes would blink open and closed; comforted back into sleep by the deep humming, the waver of an old record player. Feet over hardwood and the smell of fresh pancakes.
Dad’s home.
A delirious smile slides over your sleep-hot face. That was why you were so content. This was what home sounded and smelled like.
Dad’s home. You repeat it once more, nuzzling farther into your father's travel pillow he brings to and from Base. Pine needles. Ash. Cigar smoke.
Dad’s home! Your eyes snap open wildly, your body shooting up from the cushions as the blanket falls to the floor. Angling your head to the separated kitchen, you swipe the drool from your mouth with a heavy hand and listen.
Your dreams had tricked you before, but no. Not this time.
He was humming along to some old tune under his breath that mirrored the record player behind the couch; the antique turned low so it wouldn’t wake you. Blinking in shock, your mouth morphs into a rich smile instantaneously.
Throwing yourself off the couch, your feet slam to the floor, rushing and almost tripping over the blanket on the floor as your body slants forward. Giggling, you push on, righting yourself with no second thought other than welcoming your dad home the same as you always did. Zipping around the corner, a shadow is already turning your way, a plate of pancakes ready to be put on the table and devoured.
“Dad!” You yell loudly and launch yourself at him, hearing his chest let out a grunt and his hands splay around you so he won’t drop breakfast food all over the floor.
A velvety chuckle is wrung from his body, and his free digits go to rest heavily on your head as you shove yourself into his hold. Gripping his shirt tight between your fingers, you try not to cry when that scent that had been fading from the house comes back tenfold. Your eyes burn, but you only let one tear out when your dad’s finger begins stroking your hair just like he did when you were little.
You had been so worried.
“There’s my girl,” His voice whispers out, “I’m here, Sunshine. Easy now.”
“I thought you died,” You can’t help the helpless gasp that rips from you. Your father’s hand freezes; body going rigid around your smaller, desperately grasping frame. The atmosphere of the room flips. Digging into the fabric of his shirt the full flood of tears finally comes forward. “W-when I woke up and you weren’t here I… I thought you were never coming back home, and that I would have to go and live with the neighbors and I’d have to bury you in the cemetery. I don’t-don’t wanna have to put you in the ground.” You’re rambling, but you can’t stop the words. “I don’t want you to leave me alone, Dad. Please don’t leave me alone.”
At some point, the plate of pancakes had been tossed to the counter without care for if the porcelain cracked from the force, and both of your father's arms hand scooped you into his hold effortlessly. Your breath was hiccuping violently, tears making his shirt wet and sticking to his skin.
But John didn’t care.
He wrapped his arms around you and curled his body in, taking you into a hold so warm and tight you couldn’t leave it even if you tried.
What’ve I done? The man feels his lips tense, blinking down at your shaking body with guilt as you sob. Oh, my Little Girl, I’m so sorry. What’ve I done to you?
Had he never noticed the toll that this job was taking on you? John asked himself this in disgust as he pressed his lips to the crown of your head, whispering words into your hair under his shaky breath. He hated when you cried because of him.
“I’m not going anywhere, Love, alright? Look at me.” You don’t move your bruising grip, face still held away from sight as you gasp down frantic breaths. John’s voice gets firmer, “Sweetheart, I need you to look at me, yeah?”
Your tight fingers stutter, and your head barely shifts to the side, one red eye peeking up as he looks down at you with all the love he can muster without looking incredibly broken. He never wanted to see you cry again but knew that would be an impossible feat to accomplish – but he’d do his damndest to try.
“There she is.” John’s hand goes to your cheek, brushing away the saltwater with a calloused thumb as you sniffle. “Just keep those eyes on me, Little One.”
“...M’ not little anymore.” You grumble out, your cheeks heating even as your pulse slows as you focus on your dad's eyes. So soft the edges were nearly liquid; water that held your attention as they lapped across your form.
“To me, you’ll always be little. Can’t change that I’m afraid.” The man grunts out, tilting his head down at you and letting his eyes travel from concern to comfort. But that doesn’t change the present.
“I’m so sorry, Love,” Your father mutters, eyes flickering away from yours in guilt so rarely shown to others. He always prided himself on being strong, you knew, bearing the brunt of the weight. Apologies weren’t often verbally said until it truly mattered. “I should have called you. That’s all on me, that is. Bloody stupid to forget about, knowin’ how you wait up for me.”
Your lips thin to mimic your dad's, brows pulling close. But in your chest, your heart couldn’t be larger. You didn’t hold it against him, but you wished he could be here more often; not put himself in dangerous situations. Knowing as little as you did about your dad's actual job, you still knew it wasn’t entirely safe.
Maybe the two of you protected each other from the things unseen.
Your chest aches.
“...You’re funny lookin’ when you have to apologize. Like a kicked bear.” Pulling back your lips, a tiny smile lighting your face, and you look up at your dad with a sniffle in your nose.
His visage snaps to yours, eyebrows going high on his head in surprise, and hooded blue eyes widening. It takes a moment, but a smirk pushes back his beard when he sees the tears have stopped falling.
“Yeah?” John asks you, a grumble reverberating in his chest, “Now, y’know, that is just bloody rude, Sunshine. Thought I raised you better…And after I made you pancakes.”
Laughing, you pull back, stomach rumbling and nose twitching at the prospect of the nearly forgotten food. Slithering past your father, you snatch the plate and fork before rushing into the living room. Jumping on the couch you begin to cut into the carbs, piling pieces into your mouth and smiling at the taste. No one else could make them as your dad could.
The Brit comes not seconds later, a cup of tea held in his hand before he sits down next to you with a groan, stretching out and laying his socked feet on the coffee table next to your tossed phone from hours earlier. You giggle, suddenly leaning to his large frame and hearing him grunt in retaliation.
“Tell me a funny story,” You demand, listening to him sip his drink in the mid-morning glow that spreads outside the house and leaks in through the opened curtains. Birds sing outside, heard from the street.
Your dad hums, his beard tickling your scalp as he leans into you in turn, making you chuckle before he nuzzles against you kissing your head; leading to a larger exclamation of glee before you elbow his gut.
He laughs and answers with a smile in his voice.
“Hm, did I tell you ‘bout the time Gaz fell out of the Heli?”
You laugh, eating the rest of the pancake remnants; feeling incredibly happy and warm. There were many memories you loved of your dad and his recounting of stories fit many of them. He always kept out the gory bits – promising himself that he would never lead you down that path no matter what – and always opted for the many downright hilarious situations the rest of the 141 always seemed to get into.
“Yes, but tell me again. It’s funny, especially when you describe his face afterward! Like he–”
“Like he had shit his pants and didn’t want to tell me,” John chuckles, eyes squinted, looking down at you as you snuggle into his side. He wraps an arm over your shoulders, taking your empty plate with one hand and putting it on the side table before pulling you close and making sure his tea won’t spill. He feels your tiny, bird-like, heartbeat on his ribcage and knows that nothing could ever take you away from him. You would always be his little girl.  “Yeah, Love, I remember that one. Now, let me start from the beginning…”

W.C. - 1,1 k
-----------------
The sand is warm between your toes, eyes reflecting the bright warmth of the setting sun, orange like the hair of the girl in the cafe. The waves of the sea shine as they crash against the stones of the beach, in your slightly intoxicated state, you can’t help but wonder what she’s doing.
The woman with flames for hair and a smile that could melt even the coldest of hearts. Your mind makes up many different scenarios, all centered around her, painting thousands of pictures of her enchanting locks and enticing eyes.
She’d been on your mind ever since you visited that coffee shop in Manchester, the one tucked away in the most intricate alleyway. It was like she commanded all the attention to be pointed at her, seemingly unknowing.
The fair skinned beauty caught your fixated eyes on her for a second before she turned back to her friends situated beside her. Yet, your eyes never faltered from her form, witnessing her laugh at something they said.
Unknowingly to you, you’d caught her eye too. The accented English slipping out of your mouth uncomfortably, it intrigued her. She hadn’t even noticed that her eyes were glued to you until she saw your gorgeous eyes and cheeky smile.
She had you hooked from the moment you first saw her.
By the time you’d finished your cup of coffee, the two of you had exchanged multiple glances, shy smiles gracing your faces.
You didn’t even notice when she dropped into the chair in front of yours, only when she cleared her throat did you look up. Her hands were folded before her, on her face was a serious expression.
“Hi, I’m Keira” She smiled at you, one of those cute grins that you knew you were fortunate to see.
“Keira, hmm I like that name. Y/n, nice to meet you.” You stick your hand out for her to shake, her hand oh so soft in yours.
Hours passed quickly in that dimly lit cafe, so swept up in conversation that neither of you noticed the quickly darkening sky.
Her friends were long gone, having left only minutes after her introduction. She was everything you looked for in a person, quick-witted, smart, endearing, kind and so much more. The fact that she was absolutely gorgeous was a plus too.
Her eyes widened when she realized that she didn’t have a ride home, having caught a ride with one of her friends.
“I know that this might sound a bit weird, but you could stay over at my house for the night. Only if you want to though, it’s only a walking distance away…” Her laughter cuts off your rambling, the sound so addictive.
“That would be nice Y/n.” She answers quickly, wanting to see how you lived after talking to you for so long.
That was the start of 2 weeks of pure bliss. You spent the entire time with the redhead, all the way until you had to go home. Home to Spain, to Barcelona.
It was with a promise of calling often and a deep kiss that you boarded the plane, suddenly feeling empty.
It had been 6 months since you last saw her in person and ever since you had been nothing more than a mess. She was like a drug and you were addicted, your body was going through withdrawal.
But both of you had jobs that kept you busy, neither of you had the time to go visit the other.
You missed her ginger hair that she liked to keep in a ponytail but would let you run your fingers through and the way she liked to dress. You were a fool for falling for the redhead from England, all you wanted to do was scream and yell for her to come over, to abandon her job for once and just spend a week together.
Such foolish thoughts plagued your mind day in and out, you couldn’t get rid of them even if you tried. Keira was the only thought that ran through your mind every moment of the day.
Did she have to live in England? You take another swig of the lukewarm beer you’d been nursing for the last hour. Did she have to stay in her small Manchester apartment? Couldn’t she just be with you.
You were nothing if not desperate for her touch, for her bright hair between your fingers, for her hand in yours. You crave it, like an addict craves a fix. She’s all you need.
The pictures she sends you doesn’t make it any better, her skin glowing and a content smile on her face. As the days become brighter in England, her hair becomes lighter and you have to restrain yourself from begging her to fly over to you.
Her busy schedule was nothing new to you, she was just so accustomed to it that it didn’t bother her anymore. That didn’t mean that you weren’t bothered by it, she needed a break sometimes, a break you gave her.
“I’m moving Y/n/n.” She drops the bomb on you one day, the hot summer sun beating down on your skin. Keira sees the way your eyes widen significantly and she smiles, the best news not yet shared.
“That’s great amor, where to?” She felt her face heat up, the shy smile taking over her lips. It was no secret that Keira Walsh loved it when you called her a Spanish pet name.
“Well, City have sold me to a certain league winning club…” Her voice trails off as she waits for you to catch on to where she’s moving.
“Chelsea?” Keira laughs at the confusion on your face, shaking her head.
“Nope, I’m moving somewhere warm.”
“YOU’RE COMING TO SPAIN?!” The loud sound of your voice carries throughout your bedroom, and cheers soon follow when she nods.
“Barca signed me, I’m flying to Spain in a couple of days.” She smiles softly at your excitement, seeing when you pump your fist into the air.
“This might sound weird, but since you’re moving to Barcelona, is there any chance that you might want to maybe move in with me?” Her beaming smile reassures you that she’s not weirded out by the proposal. Her eyes dart around your face and she feels her heart pump dangerously against her chest.
“That would be great Y/n. I love you so much.”
“Hey, Kei? Why don’t you come on over?” Your lip is pulled between your teeth, chewing on it lightly.
When you feel her body slot into your side once more after oh so long, you feel whole, like nothing more than her could make you happy.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales; Why It Shouldn’t Exist
Tumblr media
Or how I invested time and energy into an analysis of a relatively dead franchise instead of doing it for my actual media analysis university course.
An essay by: a bitter and obsessed PotC fan since they were 7, with a lot of free time.
Lads, this is going to be long. You have been warned.
The Beginning
At the very beginning of the movie, we see a young Henry Turner looking for his dad.
Tumblr media
Now, we're not talking about characterization problems or how likely it is that a ten-year-old child would risk his life to look for a man he technically only saw once; we're talking about plot problems, actual logical fallacies. My questions are:
How? The Flying Dutchman is a legendary ship, impossible to be found unless She wants to be found. The only reason we see Her in Dead Man's Chest is because Davy Jones himself is looking for Jack to collect his debt, and in that occasion the Dutchman's captain wasn't even doing what he was supposed to do, so he was most definitely in the living world. Will otherwise, he's doing the job Calypso gave him, so he's constantly in between. Is the movie trying to convince me that a kid was able to do something no one in the history of piracy was ever able to do? And even if he did, why hasn't anyone explained me how? He simply looks at a map and throws himself on the bottom of the ocean. How did he know The Dutchman was there? How did he know it would've come to surface?
Where is his mom? We got to know Elizabeth in the first three movies; we know she's a smart woman and we can assume she's an attentive mother. She didn't notice her son preparing himself for a trip in the middle of the ocean to go look for his dad? Was she distracted? Was she outsmarted by a 10ish-year-old? Or is she just not contemplated in this scenario?
Tumblr media
Why does Will look like that? Will is doing his job, so... why does he look like he's slowly corrupting? That kind of corruption is the punishment Calypso reserves to The Dutchman's crew when the captain fails her, which isn't the case. Did they forget about it? Was the idea of putting algae on Orlando Bloom's face just impossible to resist to?
Tumblr media
Alright, this isn't actually from this movie but it's bothering me, so I have to write it; also, it would make this whole movie unnecessary, so it's somehow related to it. Why (and I can't stress this enough) can't Elizabeth be on the Dutchman? Why can't they do the job together? Is it because she's not a pirate? I'm pretty sure se actually is. Is it because she's a woman? Last time I checked she was the KING. She wants to stay with Will forever, Will wants to stay with her forever, they can literally live forever on the same ship. Why aren't they?
Whatever the Hell Happened to Jack Sparrow
Imagine creating a character that is so iconic whenever you ask a person who was a kid in the early 2000 to imagine a pirate, they imagine said character.
Tumblr media
Now imagine fourteen years pass and you decide to ruin that character by making him the most hideous, annoying, idiotic person in the whole saga, and we're talking about a saga that has Philip the Missionary in it. Why? Jack Sparrow is THE anti-hero. Never on the right side, but never on the wrong one. You can tell he's doing something morally questionable, but you still find yourself rooting for him. He's stupid enough to make you laugh, but he's secretly clever enough to always get away with it. Now he's just... drunk. And that's not even an excuse for this horrendous new characterization, because he was always drunk. The guy FORGOT HE WAS ROBBING A BANK, the same guy just one movie earlier was able to escape from the King of England's palace and steal a lady's earring (by pretending to be a literal slut) in the process. He just switched from the iconic drunk bi bestie everyone loves to my cringe uncle that drinks too much at Christmas parties and makes everyone uncomfortable. Please, if the risk is ruining an entire generation's beloved character, either don't make the movie or find a better explanation than "Bad luck dogs you day and night".
Tumblr media
The Pearl in The Bottle
So... what you're telling me is that Jack Sparrow, the guy who was able to defeat Hector Barbossa, Davy Jones and Blackbeard thanks to his slyness, and who loves his Black Pearl more than anything else in the world, had said ship in a bottle in his pockets for FIVE YEARS... and he never thought about breaking the bottle to free Her. That's what you're telling me. This is the pivotal point upon which the entire Jack's plot hinges. I... I don't even know what to say. Was this supposed to be funny?
Tumblr media
What an Incredibly Lucky Coincidence
A guy needs a treasure to save his father. To find it, he needs the help of a notorious and legendary pirate. He looks for him everywhere, sailing on dozens of ships just so he has the remote chance to stumble across the pirate. The last ship he's been on has sinked, he's the only survivor. He's been found in the middle of the ocean and someone brought him to the nearest city. Which city? I mean, the one that has both the pirate he was looking for and a lady who's the only person in the whole planet who's able to find the treasure he was looking for! And, oh my... he finds the both of them! In that same city! Without even LOOKING FOR THEM! A hell of a coincidence, if you ask me. Also known as lazy writing.
Tumblr media
What's Wrong With the Guards?
Now, I know Pirates of the Caribbean isn't exactly known for its accurate historical reconstructions, but why are the guards in this movie acting like they're some sort of hellhounds ready to kill anyone in sight? Even pirates and traitors as Jack and Henry were supposed to stand trial before being sentenced to death. It would've probably been an unjust and barbaric trial, but there should've been one. We literally saw it, in the previous movie. Why's Jack been sentenced to death for simply existing here? He gave pirate vibes and they decided that was enough?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Paul McCartney
This is not an actual point of the analysis, I just wanted to remind people that Paul McCartney is in this movie and that's the only valid reason to watch it.
Tumblr media
Salazar
I am confused. Once again, I have questions.
El Matador Del Mar was so good at his job he had almost defeated piracy. "The last ones joined together to try and defeat me". The last what? Pirates? There were no pirates left? This happened when Jack was young, so a lot of time before the first movie, right? Where were, I don't know... Blackbeard? Davy Jones? Barbossa? All the other Pirate Lords? I might be wrong, but I guess Salazar didn't kill them, did he? Why weren't they there during that "last battle" in which "the last ones joined together"?
Tumblr media
The Devil's Triangle. I just don't understand what's the logic behind it. So, this is a cursed place. Whoever enters there, can't get out. One would think it means that if you get there, you die; and Salazar does die, but he somehow also becomes a ghost whose only purpose is to find Jack Sparrow and have his revenge. So, do people become ghosts when they get in The Devil's Triangle? We have to assume people have gotten stuck in there before; otherwise, there wouldn't be legends around the place. So why isn't it like full of spirits ready to haunt people? Why are Salazar and his crew the only ones?
Poseidon or Calypso?
What's the Trident of Poseidon? Does Poseidon exist? Isn't Calypso the Goddess of the sea? Breaking the Trident, you break all the curses of the sea, so the Trident must be more powerful than Calypso, which leads to a question. Where is she? She IS the sea, right? So she must have known someone was about to find the Trident and brake all curses, including her one. She just decided it was okay? It really feels like someone decided to suddenly change the world's mythology without giving explanations.
Tumblr media
The Compass
This is possibly the most blatant plot hole in the whole saga. Probably the most blatant plot hole I've ever witnessed, and man, I watched all the Harry Potter movies. In Dead Man's Chest, Jack meets Tia Dalma in her "shop" and he tells her he's looking for the Davy Jones' key. She asks him "The compass you bartered from me, it cannot lead you to this?", making another pivotal point of Dead Men Tell No Tales factually senseless.
Tumblr media
That man couldn't have given his compass to Jack, because that wasn't his compass.
Tumblr media
So either Salazar is lying while telling his tale or they forgot about that line in the second movie. Anyway, let's pretend that line doesn't exist; even if that captain gave Jack his compass in that exact moment, why would it be the key to free Salazar, exactly? How is the compass in any way related to The Devil's Triangle or to Salazar? In the movie, they try to explain it with a sentence: “if you betray it, your greatest fear comes true”. So, is Salazar Jack's greatest fear? I really doesn't seem right, Jack almost didn't remember Salazar when Henry mentioned him. To Jack, he's only a guy he outsmarted decades earlier. Also, Jack technically already gave the compass away, twice: to Elizabeth in Dead Man's Chest, to make her find the chest, and to Beckett in At World's End, when they're negotiating.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's... That's Just Body Shaming, Mate
Tumblr media
Let's talk about her. So, the woman's ugly. It can happen that a woman is ugly. Was it necessary to build an entire scene around some blatant body shaming? This scene wants to mimic the similar scene in Dead Man's Chest: Jack's on an island, running from the main villain, and he's forced to do things he doesn't want to do until someone saves him, then it was Will, now it's Hector.
Tumblr media
Except in Dead Man's Chest it was LITERAL CANNIBALISM he was facing, and yet he looked LESS TERRIFIED and DISGUSTED. What's exactly the message here? Lads, is marrying an ugly woman worse than cannibalism? I don't know... that was just bad.
Justice for Hector Barbossa
If you know me (you probably don't, but if you do) then you know about my obsession with Hector Barbossa. I truly believe he's the best written character in the saga, and he's in my top five of the characters I love the most in all media. I watched The Curse of the Black Pearl when I was seven and I am autistic, so I had all the time to develop a literal relationship with these characters in my head. As much as Geoffrey Rush's interpretation was impeccable, as always, it really hurt to watch Hector in this movie. He just doesn't sound like him. First of all, why isn't he on the Queen Anne's Revenge? Why's he letting someone else sail around on his ships? He would've never. Why's he just sitting on a throne and shooting musicians instead of, I don't know... being a pirate? Being a pirate is the only thing that matters to him. He says it at the end of On Stranger Tides, and he even says it in this movie, to the witch. "I'm a pirate. Always will be".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, why isn't he pirating? What happened to him? And what about the pact with the witch? He made her curse all his enemies; that's honestly the most out-of-character thing he could've done.
Tumblr media
Seriously, watch this movie, and then The Curse of the Black Pearl and tell me he sounds like he's the same character. Then there’s his death... was it necessary? And I don't mean if it was necessary to the plot (it wasn't), but the way he died, did it make sense? He takes the sword and sacrifices himself to kill Salazar, but WHY? Salazar was back a mortal. They could've brought him to surface and then shoot him. What was the point of his death, Disney? I will never forgive you.
Tumblr media
I would've preferred if they never showed him again. He's alive and living his best life in Tortuga, if you ask me.
How does Carina Smyth exist?
Let's do the math. Carina Smyth has approximately the same age as Henry Turner, who was born around nine moths after the end of At World's End. At the end of that movie, Barbossa once again stole the Black Pearl (he's iconic we stan a legend), so we have to assume it is during that time (between the At World's End and On Stranger Tides) that he conceives Carina. He stays with this woman during the whole pregnancy, bacause he says he was there when she died. So nine months, at least, right? Except; Jack makes it clear that he and Barbossa met Carina's mom, Margaret, together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When, exactly, did this happen? It can't be between On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales, because Hector himself says only five years passed between the two, and Carina doesn't look like a five-year-old;
Tumblr media
it can't be between At World's End and On Stranger Tides, because we know Jack and Barbossa weren't together, and Hector was too busy losing a leg and planning his revenge by working for the King of England; it can't be during At World's End, because Barbossa was too busy rescuing Jack and then slaying (literally and metaphorically) Beckett's men to save piracy; it can't be during Dead Man's Chest, because he was dead; it can't be during The Curse of the Black Pearl, nor during the ten years before it, because he was... he was a skeleton, I hardly believe he could reproduce, despite what’s written in some fanficions; it can't be before, of course, because Carina would be too old. The only chance, but it's a stretch, is that Hector and Jack met this Margaret Smyth years and years before, and that at a certain point (while he was still busy slaying, losing a leg or planning his revenge), for some reason he decided to come back to her and accidentally had a daughter. That would mean that Jack remembered Margaret Smyth's name DECADES after he met her.
The Post-Credit Scene: What?
WHY'S DAVY JONES BACK? The Trident technically broke all the curses of the sea. He is THE cursed man of the sea. AND HE'S DEAD. The only answer I was able to give me, is that the moment the Trident broke the curses, the curse that said if you stab his heart he dies was also broken, so he technically didn't die, but it makes even less sense, because if the curses just aren't real anymore, then a man shouldn't be able to... carve out his heart and put it in a chest, right? (Which by the way, makes Will Turner being alive senseless as well). Even if so, Davy should've come back as a human.
Tumblr media
My conclusion is that this movie should not exist, and we, as a community, should pretend it was never made. Hector is alive. Bye.

Farmhand! Simon HC’s
(fem!reader, SFW)
Farmhand. Farmhand but in a way that will water down the harsh southern living into sweet tea and fireflies and cattle all because I'm a silly delulu squirrel who wants my life to be easy right now.
I'm into escapism and fake scenarios can't you tell?
Anywho, my main point about this is I can't stop thinking about farmhand! Simon and its curing my depression a little bit so heres some head cannons lol
(Ain’t proof read, per usual :P)
—————
Farmhand! Simon, who you met after returning home from a trip with your friends, the new masked face a surprise addition to your grandfather’s ranch, considering your grandfather ain’t one who asked for help often. Let alone someone from England.
Farmhand! Simon, who decided to move to the states for a job opportunity, and innocently assuming he’d take care of a lonesome old couple and that was that. Little did h know he’d find your cute little puppy ass fluttering around him curiously every time he turned around.
Farmhand! Simon, who is very distant and quiet, no matter what advances you made to try and slink around to bother him, he would always shy away with a grunt and wrangled horses into their stalls, and your guess was he wasn’t very friendly.
Farmhand! Simon, who is embarrassed by your sudden appearances and advances into helping. He’s grateful for his hat and the bandana tied around his face to hide his embarrassment around you- otherwise you’d find out underneath all that he loved checking you out in that short red gingham dress, the way it rode up your thighs when you bent over the fences to hand him water or reach for his hat to spite a reaction from him.
Farmhand! Simon, who will wake up at the crack of dawn to make back tea and gets the feeding out of the way, so if you woke up early enough, you were able to spot him hard at work before the sun glinted across him.
Farmhand! Simon, who helped carry laundry baskets for you outside before rudely dropping them to go collect some bails of hay for the horses, it only because he got so embarrassed by the way you’d look up to him as you talked, fluttering your lashes like you two were friends.
Farmhand! Simon, who finds you asleep in an empty hay-blanketed horse stall next to Gideon, the newborn horse calf. It melted his heart a bit, seeing the glow on the sunset glisten across your skin, kissing your hair and making you glow even more than you should. To see you curled up against the calf so sweetly.
Farmhand! Simon, who begrudgingly picked you up from your napping post and up into his arms effortlessly, carrying you across the field for a few minutes to admire your sleepy features, the way you twitched your nose, the way you curled up against his chest, curling the fabric of his flannel in your fingers as if you weren’t close enough.
Farmhand! Simon, who put you up to your bed, brushing a stray curl from your temple to hesitantly peck your forehead, bushing his finger across your lips for good measure.
Farmhand! Simon, who will eventually start to come closer to you, and begins to allow your help around the ranch.
Farmhand! Simon, who will work from 5am-12pm for a break and walks in on your making him some lunch (embarrassingly refuses to eat in front of you, instead goes out into the barn to eat with the animals.)
Farmhand! Simon, who nearly looses his mind at how you cook for him, sweet or savory, he thinks it’s divine.
Farmhand! Simon, who got so love sick at your appreciation, went to an auction and got you a new calf, which you name Duck.
Farmhand! Simon, who starts thinking this is your illegitimate child together, (will also get a bit jealous at your attention for the calf instead of him, he wouldn’t allow himself to really feel to though, cause why would he want that nasty fluffy crap?)
Farmhand! Simon, who will bring you out late at night to capture deep in the woods, the virescent glow of fireflies that dances around you lit up your eyes with a beaming smile like some puppy chasing them through the trees, while he watches for afar, finding that this was the moment he fell in love with you.
Farmhand! Simon, who has gotten so comfortable, on his breaks he’ll let you make him picnics and eats with his bandana off, but inched away -only cause he’s shy of you starring at him like he stares at you- or the potential denial of his scarred features who scare you away,
Farmhand! Simon, who will give you a giant bear hug before you or he goes anywhere, just to make sure ;)…especially if youre out in town, he’ll be sure to keep any small town weirdos from getting to close to you.
Farmhand! Simon, who will eventually become so lax around you, he enjoys the time you take to be around him, laying your head on his stomach as you read, the low buzz of the radio drifting around you with the sound of crickets starting to chime together at the sunset. While Simon’s hand had a beer in it, the free one hesitantly inches towards the ends of your hair, twirling the strand around experimentally, hoping you didnt feel it while he memorized the softness and texture, hoping one of these days he can fully run his and through your hair.
Farmhand! Simon, who eventually kisses you the night before you leave for college, wanting you to understand he would wait for you, if you’d wait for him too.

you’re losing me
based on “You’re Losing Me” by Taylor Swift
Tumblr media
pairing: Mason Mount x Reader
tw: cursing // mentions of a proposal
a/n: is this good? probably not, but this song makes me sad whenever i listen to it so i just wrote how i pictured a scenario like this going in real life
note: all references to the song will be italicized and lyrics are bolded
You had been dating your boyfriend, Mason, for almost 6 years. You both met all those years ago while you were in England studying abroad. You guys took things slow, and eventually became much more serious about your relationship and nearly 2 years ago you moved in together.
All was great, and you both tried to make time for each other as often as possible, but lately things felt off. Mason was always busy with training, which you understood as it was his job, but he would come home completely drained and not in the mood to do anything with you.
Even while being in the same room, he would barely bat an eyelash at the sight of you entering the room.
“Hey, Mase. Can we talk?” You asked one day as you sat down next to him on the couch. His eyes were still glued to the TV screen in-front of him, but he nodded his head as if signaling for you to keep talking.
“Is everything okay with us?”
“Yeah why?” His gaze moves to you, his eyebrows are scrunched and a confused look is etched across his face. You audibly sigh at his obliviousness.
“Things haven’t been the same, Mase. You’ve been acting off and I’m just trying to figure out why things don’t feel the same”
“We’re fine. Just been busy with football and stressed about the contract” He says as he turns his attention back to the large screen, drowning out any possibility of further conversation taking place. You sigh as you get up and walk out of the room, annoyed as your boyfriend won’t make any effort to resolve the problems in your relationship.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Weeks passed and Mason was as stressed as before, and you felt like you were coming second to his job. You tried to be understanding, but it was hard. You missed the way things used to be between you both.
There was an important event Mason had to attend tonight, and he brought you with him as his date. You wore a beautifully fitted maroon dress, one that was sure to grab Mason’s attention.
Mason was at Carlotta’s studio as she was styling him for the evening, so you both agreed to meet at the venue.
Upon your arrival, you met up with Sophia & Andrea.
“Where’s Mason?” Sophia asked.
“Oh he’s on his way. He sent me a text a few minutes ago” You smiled in attempt to reassure not only them, but also yourself that everything was fine.
“You guys are such a perfect couple. We’re waiting for the day you guys get engaged” Andrea smiled at you as you tried to fake a smile.
After dating for 6 years, people always say things like this: that they’re waiting for day that he proposes to you. Sure, some people wait even longer, but according to his friends & family, he’s always wanted to get married especially to you. You wondered why he hadn’t proposed yet, but you always ignored the thought and focused on the moment.
Minutes later, Mason arrived at the event. You knew because of the hoard of paparazzi & interviewers racing to take pictures of him and interview him before he entered the event.
You touched up your makeup before making your way to the group you were most familiar with, as it was a mix of your boyfriend, his teammates & their girlfriends/wives. You’d grown close with the group over the years.
As you walked over, all eyes were on you, except for the ones you wanted to be on you: Mason’s. He was too indulged in conversation with someone you’ve never seen before, and they certainly weren’t part of your group.
You sparked conversation with everyone else in the meantime, mentally planning how to make Mason see that you were worth his time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As your group sat down to eat at your assigned table, you could tell that Mason was distracted. You were honestly tired of it, and everyone could see that something was up. Just as Mason excused himself to go to the restroom, Christian spoke up.
“Hey Y/n… is everything alright?” Christian asked. He had always been so kind to you, and you considered him like a brother to you.
“Everything’s fine” You lied, plastering a fake smile to your face as you hoped nobody would believe otherwise.
“What’s up with him? He hasn’t been his usual outgoing self” Kai asked and you could simply shrug.
“No idea”
“Have you tried asking him?” Andrea added and you nodded your head at her question.
“He just brushed it off. I’m trying with this relationship, I really am, and I feel like he’s just given up on us” Everyone gave you sympathetic looks and comforting smiles.
“I’m so sorry, Y/n” Was all anyone could say after hearing what you’d told them.
Mason came back moments later, sitting with the rest of the group, clueless that you’d slightly vented to them about your relationship troubles.
There was an opportunity to dance near the end of the event, and you thought it would be a good chance to talk to Mason.
“Dance with me?” You asked, the hope behind your eyes shining brightly until you watched him shake his head.
“I’m tired, love. Go dance with Chris or something” Your face dropped at his words, disappointment and sadness appeared visible on your features as you turned and made your way to the bathroom.
Sophia & Andrea watched the encounter from across the table. Without a single words, both girls got up and made their way to the bathroom, knowing you would need some comfort.
You didn’t even make it to the bathroom before the tears started flowing. You rested against the wall that was hidden from view and slid down, pulling your knees into your chest as tears streamed down your face.
Sophia & Andrea appeared at that moment, crouching down with you. Andrea went to hold your hand and you jumped at the sudden contact.
“Sorry” Andrea mouthed as she sat down fully next to you, with Sophia doing the same.
“It’s okay, Y/n, just let it all out” Sophia said as she rubbed your back gently in attempt to comfort you.
“I’m drained, Soph. I’m trying my hardest to fix this relationship and he’s not even putting effort in. I was hoping to at least get something out of him tonight, some sort of sign that he’s willing to help, but nothings worked. I just wanted him to see me. Not just physically, but emotionally” Andrea handed you a tissue at that moment, allowing you to wipe the flowing mascara from ruining your makeup for the evening.
“It’s just embarrassing. He just turned me down in-front of everyone. My own boyfriend turned me down in a room full of people” Both girls brought you in for a hug.
“I’m really just tired of giving him signs that I’m fighting this battle alone, only for him to ignore them and just keep adding onto the mess that we call a relationship”
“We’re so sorry, Y/n. You of all people don’t deserve this. Try talking to him again, and if nothing works, you tried. You held up your end for as long as you could, and that’s enough. You are enough” You thanked both girls before heading back to the main room and heading to your table.
You didn’t sit next to Mason, but rather the girls and spoke to them. Your encounter with him ruined your night and you weren’t in the mood to speak to him.
Christian made his way back to the table and saw you sitting far from your boyfriend. He gave you a questioning look and you mouthed “I’ll tell you later” to him. He nodded and sat next to you, joining the conversation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After explaining to Christian what was going on, he was beyond furious with his teammate. You weren’t necessarily in the mood to be near your boyfriend for the time being, but you wanted to go home. Christian offered to drive you back to the apartment you shared with Mason, which you graciously accepted.
You sent Mason a quick text to let him know that you had left and that you would be at home whenever he decided to come back. He read your text but didn’t respond.
You thanked Christian for the ride and he wished you good luck in your impending conversation with Mason.
You settled into the guest room in your apartment, getting under the covers and falling asleep with no issue.
About two hours later you heard the front door open and close, insinuating that Mason was home. You didn’t move; you wanted to see if he would even come looking for you.
News flash; he didn’t. He went straight to your bedroom and fell asleep, not a single thought of you & where you might be passed through his brain.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Every mornin', I glared at you with storms in my eyes
How can you say that you love someone you can't tell is dyin'?
I sent you signals and bit my nails down to the quick
My face was gray, but you wouldn't admit that we were sick
The next morning you woke up early. You got up to make yourself coffee/tea (your preference) and a turkey&bacon sandwich to eat as you were rather starving. You saw movement from the corner of your eye and you saw Mason standing there as he watched you.
From his perspective, he had never seen anything scarier than the look in your eyes. You glared at him with storms brewing in your eyes. He had never seen someone so stoic before in his life. He watched as you made eye contact and immediately went back to sipping your drink & eating your sandwich.
He didn’t take the hint and still did his everyday routine.
“Good morning, love” He spoke as he pressed a quick kiss to the top of your head. The nickname only filled you with rage. He hadn’t said the three words you longed to hear in weeks, possibly even months. You felt your face turn gray as your body tensed at the contact.
“We need to talk” You spoke, not a single emotion laced through your words. You were serious. Mason slowly made his way to sit in-front of you.
How long could we be a sad song
'Til we were too far gone to bring back to life?
I gave you all my best me's, my endless empathy
And all I did was bleed as I tried to be the bravest soldier
Fighting in only your army, frontlines, don't you ignore me
I'm the best thing at this party (You're losin' me)
“I can’t continue living like this, Mason. We’ve put this off- no. You’ve put this conversation off for long enough. I’ve given you everything I’ve got. Every last ounce of hope I had for us is gone. I’ve tried, I really have tried to be the bravest soldier to fight for us, to keep us strong but I can’t anymore”
“I don’t understand” He said.
“I know you don’t. Last night, I tried so hard to get you to see me, not just physically, but emotionally as well. Fuck, Mason, you didn’t even think to compliment me at all. In fact, you barely even spoke to me. You practically ignored me the entire night. I dressed up for you. I wanted some small ounce of attention from you, in hopes that it’ll signal that maybe you did want to help me fix this, fix us”
“So you’re upset because I didn’t give you attention last night?”
“Oh my god!” You screamed. You were beyond annoyed with this man not taking any hints. You’re being straightforward and he’s just not seeing it.
And I wouldn't marry me either
A pathological people pleaser
Who only wanted you to see her
“What’s going on? Are you just tired of this relationship? Are you tired of me? Are you not wanting us to go forward because you’re afraid of a potential proposal and what our future will look like? I need to know, Mason, because frankly I’ve given up on trying to make this work”
“I’m not ready for the future…”
“Mason that’s understandable, nobody is-”
“…with you…”
“You’re not ready for a future with me? As in, you don’t want to marry me in the future?” You asked he slowly nods his head. You stayed silent for a moment as you took it all in. After a few minutes, you spoke.
“So basically for god knows how long, I’ve been fighting for us to work when you weren’t even happy in this relationship?” He didn’t move. A thick silence filled the air around you.
And I'm fadin', thinkin'
"Do something, babe, say something”
"Lose something, babe, risk something"
"Choose something, babe, I got nothing"
"To believe, unless you're choosin' me"
“I’ll take your silence as a yes then. I won’t waste anymore of both your & my time, Mason. I’ll have my things out of here by the end of the day” And with that, you grabbed your phone from the table and walked out of the kitchen, quickly grabbing a suitcase and a few boxes and started piling your belongings into them.
He didn’t move. He didn’t try to stop you. He just sat there and watched you leave.
Stop, you’re losing me
I cant find a pulse
My heart won’t start anymore

Not Yet Goodbye
Tumblr media
Saying goodbye to colleagues is hard, especially when you know they don’t want to leave. So yes, you’ve been hiding from Daniel while he’s saying goodbye to people in the garage before his last race. But he won’t let you away without a final conversation.
You’d never revealed your feelings.
Originally it had been a point of pride - you co-ordinated race weekends for McLaren, determined to not fall for the faces you saw every weekend. Sleeping with someone who was one of the hundreds of faces you saw in all corners of the globe was a catastrophe waiting to happen. When it was one of the men whose employment and the sponsors he brought in meant you could keep your job, then you were even more determined. You could drool from afar, watch from a distance, but your crush would remain a crush.
But this was Daniel’s last race, and your heart was breaking at the realisation you wouldn’t be spending any time with him next week. You wouldn’t hear him call your name to ask a question about setup, wouldn’t see the wide grin that had become oh so rare. Wouldn’t get another hug after a winning race, wearing one shoe as he hopped back to his drivers room. It was November in Abu Dhabi, and you were about to stop having Daniel in your life again.
Most of your job was done and you could finally take a deep breath. Usually at this point on a Saturday you’d be planning your next flight, leaving almost as soon as the checkered flag went to the next race destination, but this time you’d just be going home to England.
He’d been saying goodbye to people all weekend, some friends in the MTC had sent photos of him there with everyone. He’d gone to every person individually to thank them, and you didn’t think you’d cope with that. You didn’t want to cope with it.
It was funny, you didn’t even think he knew your name for the first few weeks. Lando vaguely knew of you, waving and nodding to you as you rushed around to make sure everything was as it should be. He’d been in the same meetings as you about logistics, you’d explained the scenarios that would take place moving from Bahrain to Italy and how things would operate. He’d asked questions Lando and Carlos never had about how the cars would be packed away and what ways it would change, and you’d appreciated getting to explain how you worked and what you did.
This time was different. The paddock was buzzing for the end of the year and you were avoiding someone who’d been your friend. You’d heard the news he was moving to Red Bull and were delighted for him, but you’d still miss him. So you kept your head down, staring at your reports and working out exactly what was needed in your job to keep things going and get everything back to base when the race finished.
It wasn’t until after qualifying that you were cornered as you walked out of the paddock, badge around your neck, when photographers were suddenly all around you and you realised Danny was striding up to you.
“Want a ride to the hotel?” He asked and you shook your head, but he didn’t take no for an answer as you ended up in his McLaren driving to the hotel you were all staying in.
“I didn’t think I’d get a chance to talk to you. I’m not gone yet, you don’t need to avoid me.”
“I’m not avoiding you…” you trailed off, staring out into the dark night. There were lights on the water from the boats that you tried to focus on instead of the man beside you.
“But every time I try to talk to you you magically have something to do?”
“I’m bad at goodbyes. Ask Carlos, I didn’t say it to him until I saw him in a Ferrari shirt.”
“So when I turn up next year in a Red Bull shirt you’ll say it then?”
“Maybe.”
It was awkward, the drive nearly over when Daniel pulled over, the engine switching off as you stayed staring at the windscreen.
“Will you at least look at me?” He was uncharacteristically quiet and you turned, emotion visible on his face.
“I’m gonna miss you, Danny. More than I thought I would.”
You tried smiling sadly at him, pasting what you thought was a proper smile on your face.
“We can get lunch in the paddock next year? I’ll sneak you into Red Bull hospitality for catering!” It made both of you laugh, the shared jokes around the paddock surrounding that topic not lost on either of you.
“As long as you bring me Tim tams. You got me hooked, did anyone bring any with them?”
“Box of them in my room for you, I asked Mum to bring them with her.”
You were actually smiling now, and his face lit up into the grin you knew so well. Danny’s hand cupped your cheek, long thumb running over your cheekbone as you looked at him.
“Can I?” It was so intimate, the tension rising between you as you stared into his brown eyes.
“Daniel…” you leaned up, and he leaned down to kiss you.
In the quiet of a hotel room you’d let yourself imagine what kissing Daniel Ricciardo would be like. But you never thought your first kiss would be nervous in his car, his hands pulling you closer as you ran fingers through his curls, a slight groan from his throat as they caught. You couldn’t help but grin against his lips as you separated breathing heavily. Daniel paid his sweaty forehead against yours.
“I wanted to do that for a while.”
“Me too.”
The silence was interrupted by his phone ringing, Daniel picking it up and shaking his head.
“Hey Mum…yeah. I’m nearly there. Is there space for someone else? I gave someone a lift back to the hotel, she hasn’t eaten yet. Perfect, we’ll be there in five.” He hung up and turned to you to see your wide eyes. “You never eat in the paddock. And Mum’s never stopped talking about how nice you were to them when you met them, so c’mon.”
How could you reject him when he smiled at you like that? Instead you nodded and settled down so he’d finish driving. Before you got out of the car it was a squeeze of your hands as you got ready to head in.
Dinner was wonderful, a glass of wine your limit because of work the next day. You’d met every Ricciardo who was there at one race or another. Getting to spend time with them outside of a professional setting was an experience you weren’t prepared for, but it was a private room where nobody from work would see you yet. Drinking and laughing with everyone was a lot of fun, Daniel’s arm around the back of your chair making it clear that there was something between you. Grace’s eyes were glancing between the two of you and the easy way you interacted, but you just smiled until it was time for you to leave, waving goodbye. Daniel squeezed your hand in goodbye to make you smile.
The next morning was manic, everyone wanting Danny’s attention and to give him support. You stuck to your plan and got the dismantle list together as you let the chaos unfold around you. It was nice to relax and unwind while everyone else was busy. Michael stood behind you as you worked.
“He’s up in his driver room, asked if you were around.”
“I didn’t think he’d want to be disturbed?” He shook his head, watching you closely.
“You’ve never disturbed him. Go say hi.”
It was easy to slip away and to his room. Two knocks and the door opened for him to see you, his characteristic grin on his face.
“I thought you were ignoring me.” If you hadn’t spent so much time together you’d think he was joking, but instead you knew it was the little insecurities creeping out.
“I didn’t want to distract you.”
“Never.”
He leaned over to kiss you, a smile between the two of you as you separated.
“I wanted to kiss you goodbye last night, but I didn’t think you’d want me to in front of my parents. But I want this to be more than the weekend.”
“So do I.” You leaned up to press your lips to his, sealing your words with a kiss. “I believe in you, Daniel. And I want to believe in us. Outside all this chaos and the paddock we’ve got something. I’ll see you after the race, ok?”
“Definitely.”
He gave you one final kiss, eyes shining and his hand squeezing yours as Michael came around the corner to see the two of you standing there.
“Sorry lovebirds, he’s needed in the garage. Glad to see you’ve finally done something about this tension.”
“Was it that obvious?” You asked, your face starting to heat in embarrassment.
“Lando owes me money, he was convinced neither of you would do anything about it. I figured you would though.”
“Thanks?” Dan said, squeezing your wrist in goodbye before going out. You took a moment to get yourself together before heading out, all smiles thanks to the cameras you knew would be lurking around the garage. No matter what was happening in your personal life it was work that needed to come first.
Standing around in the garage and watching the cars get ready to leave never failed to take your breath away. It was beautiful, the way it seemed like abject chaos but was a tightly choreographed moment. Your orange and black shirt was on display and someone had stuck a Stetson on your head for Danny. He spotted you and smiled. Once everyone was back from the pit lane you found yourself beside Danny’s family. His mother reached over for you to tuck you in with the family.
“How long have you kept that quiet?” She asked as the cars started their formation lap.
“I’m not sure what you—“
“I know my son well. The way he was last night isn’t anything new, so how long have you been together?”
“Last night. We’re still working it out, but we said it just as you called him. We’re working out what’s going on. But it could be something.”
Telling the mother of the man you’d kissed all of four times that you were starting something was hard, but her smile was worth it. You caught sight of a camera watching you as you’d been speaking, nerves hitting you around what people could say seeing you there. It wasn’t unusual to have paddock gossip. But this felt different. It felt special.
Your heart was in your throat as the group of you watched the race. Daniel pitted only once, the mechanics coming in and out for him and Lando as you stared. The screens showed just how close Seb was to him. You hated not wanting Seb to pass him out but those final seconds and watching Danny make P9 made the garage erupt in cheers. Both drivers in points, Daniel making up four places, it was as good a performance as you could dream of. Arms wrapped around you as you cheered and jumped up and down.
The monitors showed him doing donuts alone and you smiled at the display. It didn’t take long for him to arrive back to the garage. You slipped out of the family area to go pretend to be working and keep things private as possible. Grace squeezed your arm as you left, a smile between the two of you.
The garage was a hive of people starting to break down, tyres being returned to Pirelli and people starting to get ready. There were parties happening but you weren’t in the mood for them, too focused on keeping an eye on what was happening.
A hand clasped your wrist and you turned, Daniel standing there and pulling you into a kiss.
“Hey,” you murmured, too aware of the crowds around you despite the wall hiding you.
“I’m not worried if you’re not.”
“Not yet?”
He separated and smiled, awareness clear on both faces. It was beginning to get even busier, parties starting up and down the paddock.
“Come out with me tonight?” He asked and you nodded. “We’re doing a family dinner tonight, Mum wants you there. Michael will be there too. Please? And we can talk about a relationship later? This isn’t just an end of year thing for me.”
You smiled, gripping his hand tightly.
“It’s not just for me either. Let’s go out.” He was surprised as you held onto him to leave your little cubby, eyes on the two of you in the garage.
“I owe Michael so much money,” Lando groaned as he came over and stared at your hands.
“Why were you betting on us anyway?” Daniel asked, his spare hand lifting up his niece.
“What else were we supposed to do? It was a boring year really.”
You just laughed, Daniel pulling you in for a kiss on your forehead. No matter what happened next year with your jobs it felt right, and that’s all you cared about.
