kira had very much made herself at home upon her return to beacon hills. after spending years training to master her kitsune abilities in new mexico, she hadn't quite expected to be able to gel so quickly with the quaint town again. it was a pleasant surprise. the kitsune knew that she likely should have remained cautious during the night of the blue moon but, that wasn't exactly her style. she walked through the woods near the town, listening to the soft howls coming from afar, a smirk toying at the corners of her lips as she moved through the trees. following her training, stealth was almost second nature to her, so she would likely go unnoticed. unless someone picked up on her scent, or the lightning energy that radiated from her. as she continued on, kira felt a subtle shift in the energy around her. it was as though someone else with supernatural abilities was nearby. she felt familiarity in the connection and immediately spun around, searching for him. "come on out, ru, i know you're there." kira murmured, arms folding over her chest as a teasing smile settled on her face.

Alyssa is a shy, quiet girl who always feels like she's done something wrong. Coming from the world of Epithet Erased, she herself has the epithet ""Seed,"" giving her plenty of plant-related powers. Despite how much of a shrinking violet Alyssa is, she is nothing if not determined to hone her powers. It's gotten to the point where she tirelessly drains herself, putting all of her strength into short bursts of powerful spells, making her the glass cannon of the team.

As a child, she was once very outgoing, friendly, and trusting, but ever since a strange accident, Alyssa has become lonely and avoidant. She's also become very secretive, swearing to herself that she will never let history repeat.

She's on the short side, standing 5'1"" (I think roughly 159 CM??), and is rather skinny, actually. Her hair is short and tousled, almost a leafy green color. She's pale and covered in freckles. She also has heterochromia, with her left eye being green and her right being blue. She always wears big round glasses accompanied by a red scarf pulled up to cover her lower face.

Usually, she wears a green sweater with yellow stripes. It's somewhat oversized. She also wears blue jeans (the pockets have daisies embroidered on them!) and yellow sneakers. Alyssa typically carries around a leather backpack, which she uses to carry a vast assortment of items.

After being abandoned by his parents at a young age, Hikaru grew up on the streets as an orphan, learning how to steal, pick locks and pockets, and do many other things most kids would not do. He lived in a cardboard box in an alleyway on Veludo Way, and stored his trinkets and treasures there, even when it got cold.

He became known as “The Fox Thief” from his sneaky way of stealing, running, and the fox headband plus tail he found in the garbage one day and fixed up, wearing it every day afterwards.

Eventually, he became desperate for a warmer place, since he had heard it was going to be exceptionally cold that winter. He lived there in an abandoned storage room used for props, and tried living there in the winter to keep warm.

He was found out by Sumi and some of the ghosts, but nobody told on him, and he made friends with the ghosts there.

He ended up getting caught and permanently living there instead of temporarily, since Izumi wouldn’t let him go back out onto the streets.

Hikaru is a young boy with messy, unbrushed pink hair that looks similar to Muku’s. His left eye is green, and his right eye is red. He wears his signature fox headband on his head, the fur also unbrushed and unkempt. He also wears an orange crop-top vest with a white sweater underneath, the left sleeve longer than the right, exposing his midsection with nothing but a few suspenders to hold it, and he wears orange and blue bandages on his face.

The left side of his pants go up to his knees, like shorts, with frayed, torn edges, the legs having cuts, scars, and bruises all over them. The other side is intact but muddy, with holes ripped into them exposing more mud and scars.

4, 11, 15 for the manga asks?

4. An underrated gem 2023 answer: My Dear Detective on Azuki! (And Usotoki Rhetoric is very similar.) Detective stories set in early modern (~1930s) Japan, with a smart female lead and funny male supporting character! (And Shonen Jump shoutout to Akane-banashi and MamaYuyu) And Stella Next to Me was recommended to me and it's very sweet so far! General answer: Well. I mean I have my reasons, but Captain Corinth is actually a pretty decent isekai-type story that avoids a lot of (though not quite all) the things that annoy me about other isekai.

11. Your favorite covers 2023 answer: A whole bunch kept catching my eye. Usotoki Rhetoric, The Summer Hikaru Died, Wind Breaker, and Correspondence with the Universe. (Have only read Usotoki Rhetoric so far but I recently bought the others) OH and Qualia Under the Snow is so pretty (and good)! OOH and also the cover of Erio to Denki Ningyou really makes me want to read itttt

General answer: All the colors and contrast on Ajin! Kaiju No. 8 as well. And the gradients on To Your Eternity.

15. The manga that made you laugh the most 2023 answer: I read a lot of Asobi Asobase. I wish more of it was in the anime, I think it fits that medium really well. Equal parts humor and 'wtf'. General answer: The first one that came to mind was Saint Oniisan ('Saint Young Men') which is about Buddha and Jesus living together in an apartment in modern-day Japan. The bath house scene makes the rounds every Easter. The whole concept is preposterous and oh so funny.

crystal eyes narrow, attempting to get a better view of what's going on. it's then he see's akira go flying, his back hitting the trunk of a large tree. hikaru goes rigid, fear overwhelming him. what was he to do ? just watch as akira fought them off ? that doesn't seem right, to hide like a coward. without another thought hikaru stands and moves from his hiding spot, waving his hands.

Notes on The Mountain Wakes: A Brief Rundown on Technology and Its Influences

It's been quite a while since I last updated The Mountain Wakes, but I always remember how I looked at games such as Dark Souls 2, Morrowind, and They Are Billions (ironic, because I'm not really into zombie apocalypse media anymore like I used to be over a decade ago, and my PC at the time could barely run it) for inspiration to form the basis of the Bad Ending AU the fic takes place in. (You can clearly tell I'm a Morrowind fangirl because Autozam, Chizeta, and Fahren move in on Cephiro and put their stakes down the moment the Paths open without any conflict from Zagato and Emeraude whatsoever - not because it happens out of conquest, but because they're so immersed in their love for each other they ignore the problems going on Cephiro a'la fuck the world we don't care what happens to it so long as we have each other, it's not our problem anymore).

I would say the technological advancements, in the three year span that takes place after Chapter 1, would be much more developed than the steampunk Tesla Tech aesthetics seen in They Are Billions. With the arrival of the three realms, Cephiro goes from a very pastoral fantasy world with hints of old magitech (via the Saturn game) to a hard, cyberpunk theme that's part of an industrial revolution that's very much enforced.

Of the three Fahren very much leans into said cyberpunk aesthetic but is more or less inspired by the Japanese subgenre with Chinese/Asian influences and the splash of tech noir and that retro 1980s vibe that's often idealized (i.e. Chapter 2's first scene takes place as a train station terminal with payphone booths, something that IRL - at least in the States - barely in use anymore with the rise of mobile phones).

Autozam takes this a step further by being postmodern as well as nanopunk/biopunk (or trying to going in that direction in a bid to co-opt Fahren technology and repurpose it to eliminate Autozam's pollution and ecological disasters). It's about as futuristic as you can get, with their mechs and architectural approaches, so in comparison to Cephiro it's going to stick out a lot.

Chizeta would be something akin to solarpunk (to relieve the issue of overpopulation) while recognizing they are very much in the camp of technofantasy (because they don't explain their magic by applying science to it). However, there is an undercurrent of Cold War/cloak and dagger element going on that undermines Tarta and Tatra's attempts at establishing a colony for their people (read: hold onto control via authoritarian means that affect the population not in line with their cause/beliefs).

I had plans for Debonair and Nova to show up (albeit under different circumstances), but as I didn't get very far in the brainstorming phase at the time they currently don't amount to much in the plot beyond Nova being a boss fight for Umi to overcome. I like to think they'd be their own faction and sowing chaos in the background because everyone re: the three realms is too busy trying to get their upper hand over each other in the attempt to be the one to overthrow Zagato and Emeraude to become the Pillar and the people of Cephiro are too doompilled to fight back (and if they are fighting, it's against each other). They would be in the camp of pure magic and taking advantage of all the technology lying around for their own purposes while manipulating people's emotions a'la the Will of Cephiro to focus on perpetuating all the in-fighting.
