I liked your countdown meta a lot and i was wondering if there's a way to like actually read countdown? Did they ever collect the whole thing?

i don't think there's a collection, no (and it would be a really huge one too...) reading the whole event would be a challenging task given that there are probably at least 15 essential titles to it. and tbh, the whole event by itself is pretty bad? the challengers from beyond (jason + donna + kyle) is pretty much the only storyline worth following, and for that, you would want to read (roughly, i'm kinda freestyling the chronology here because i don't have the energy to properly check it, sorry!):

– countdown #51 - #48

– teen titans (2003) #47

– countdown #46 – #30

– countdown presents: lord havok and the extremists #1

– countdown presents: the search of ray palmer

– the all new atom #13 – # 15

– countdown #11 - #4

– countdown #1

and to make it even more succinct and more jason-centric, i'd say the most important out of these are: c #51-48, tt #47, c #40, gotham city by gaslight (this is a story from the search of ray palmer), c #4 and c #1. i also wrote another post on it before, summarising more issues and with panels (but my opinions on some of them shifted a bit as you can see in my last post! i'm now much more appreciative of #14 - #4).

anyways! rewatching twin peaks, and maybe one of the reasons why i've glommed on to chrissy so hard is that she's so laura palmer-coded to me. i know it's Not That Serious, but the cavalier way the st writers treat her death (and every single death throughout four seasons so far lol) really annoys me, and the way it drives so many of eddie's decisions for the rest of the season is at least *one* person who feels a responsibility to her and to her memory.

also the clear (to me) parallels between how eddie and jason react to her death and to how bobby and james react to laura's death are interesting too? i'm actually not one of those people who believes jason was horrible to her or a bad boyfriend. i think he's actually a really good example of how death and fear can bring out the worst in someone if they come from a place of extreme privilege (white, probably republican, captain of the basketball team lol).

all of this to say that one of the reasons i gravitate toward c x e is that i think it's interesting to think about a world in which chrissy could have found peace and freedom in a way so many young women can't? and also that fanworks seem to have the compassion toward these canon deaths that i wish were on the screen

Julia Roberts to Receive Icon Award From Academy Museum

Julia Roberts will receive an Academy Museum Gala Icon Award from the Academy this fall. The Oscar-winning actor will receive her award at the Museum’s second annual gala on Oct. 15.

Roberts joins three previously announced honorees at the gala: Miky Lee, who will receive the Pillar Award; Tilda Swinton, who will receive the Visionary Award; and Steve McQueen, who will receive the Vantage Award. The US Equality Act is to outlaw discrimination against LGBTQ people in housing, credit, jury service, public accommodations, and federal funding.

The House of Representatives passed the legislation yesterday, but it is unlikely that the Senate will follow up, given the Republican Party's increasing hostility to queer people. They are currently weaponizing transphobia in an attempt at mobilizing their base.

In the Senate the bill will require at least 10 Republicans to vote with all Democrats to advance past the so-called filibuster.
