Love You | Chapter Seven

Summary: A chance encounter has all the makings of a lifetime love.

It only took a day before Kelly could no longer hold off on calling Odette. He ran out of excuses as to why he shouldn’t in the first place. In the end, he decided that none of the reasons mattered because he enjoyed the time he spent with her and there was absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to continue starting something with her. It wasn’t too late into the night where he thought she’d be sleeping but late enough that he winced when he glanced at the time. 

Still, she answered, albeit with a breathier voice than he was used to.  

“Hey babe, you okay?” He asked, his mind already on high alert. He foresaw that even if he wasn’t sitting in his CFD office quarters right now, the first responder instinct would never leave him.

There was a pause before she spoke and he sat up straighter the moment he caught it.

“Y-yeah, I’m okay,” she coughed and elicited a stronger voice within herself as she continued, “How’s your shift going so far?”

Kelly frowned, but decided in the moment, to answer her question instead of pushing her, “Uh, it’s fine. We don’t use the Q word around here, so I’ll settle for calling it ‘calm.’”

Odette chuckled, “Well, when you’re done with your calm shift, how do you feel about breakfast tomorrow? Almond croissants and hot chocolate are calling my name.” 

“That can be arranged,” Kelly smirked into the phone. He himself had called to ask her out on a breakfast date tomorrow morning. “You really know how to beat a guy to the punch.”

“It’s a talent,” It’s almost like he could hear her smile through the phone as she joked with him. 

“How was your day?” He inquired. Sounding farther away from the phone, he heard her intake of breath and the doubt that was slowly dripping out of his body had rushed back in. “‘Dette, is there something wrong?”

“No,” she immediately answered, “No, not really. I mean, it kind of is. But also kind of not. And it’s under control so nothing to worry about.” She rambled hurriedly and almost incoherently, which only further worried him despite her assuaging words. 

“Hey,” he interrupted her, “Talk to me.”

“Well-” she started. Whatever words she was about to say got drowned out by the blaring alarms calling for Squad 3 and the other fire companies of House 51. Kelly’s groan was almost something of a growl. 

“It’s okay,” she soothed, “We’ll talk later. And you’ll see for yourself tomorrow that I’m really okay.”

Kelly was already up and out of his quarters as they bid their goodbyes.

Odette sighed a mix of relief and discomfort as she hung up the phone from Kelly. The scalp wound on her head was still dripping with blood even with all the multiple times she had softly dabbed it. The bleeding not stopping after thirty seconds was enough to cause alarm, but her call with Kelly had been a distracted detour from getting her things together to head into the ED.

She was woozy now and knew it’d be irresponsible to drive herself. With the meddling yet well-meaning neighbors she had, she didn’t even need to ask for the older couple to take her to the ED as the wife had all but forced her into her car while the husband stayed back at her house to survey and attempt to fix some of the damage from her now broken window. 

Odette wasn’t entirely sure how a tennis ball had landed itself through her living room window, but she was more focused on the bad luck she had to have been standing right near her bookshelf when it burst through the glass. One of the shards had slashed right where her hairline met her forehead on the side of her face along with several other smaller, more superficial cuts on her arms from when she had blocked her face from the damage. 

She sat back in the passenger seat of her neighbor’s car and decided to silently let her neighbor fuss over her instead of insisting she was okay. Doing anything more took too much energy from her and she was already fading fast the longer she reclined against the seat. Her neighbor’s voice became a muffled noise and she could just barely suss out the sounds of nearby ambulance sirens and lights emanating from the hospital’s ED bay.

When Kelly finally got settled back into his officer quarters, it was after midnight. Odette would more than likely have been asleep by now, but he was still tempted to call her back and pry an explanation out of her. Something felt wrong from their last interaction and he couldn’t shake the feeling. 

There was a knock on his office door and Dawson poked her head in precariously.

“What’s up?” he asked. The hesitance on her face gave him pause.

“Brett and I just got back from taking the last of the fire victims to Med. Some woman had brought in Odette, that girl you’ve been seeing, with a major head lac.”

Kelly was back out of his chair instantly, “What?!” Almost asleep voices from outside in the bunkroom murmured irritatedly at him. “I just got off the phone with her. What the hell happened?”

“I don’t know,” Gabby shrugged, “She was literally brought in just as we were leaving. I told Will that we knew her and asked if he could give us an update when he could… It was a lot going on. She looked barely conscious.”

Kelly shook his head, not content with waiting to hear what happened. Instinctually, Gabby backed up as he exited his quarters. Unaware and uncaring of what attention he was drawing to himself, he stalked straight to Boden’s office, who was getting ready to take a nap on his sofa. 

“Chief, I’ve got an emergency. I need to step out. Can you have Cruz cover for me?”

If there was anything following the confused and alarmed nod of his battalion chief’s, he hadn’t taken stock.

Holding your hand as you walked up the driveway, Kelly kissed your forehead.

“Ready for this?” He asked.

“The 51 love? Always,” you laughed. 

Sylvie and Matt were the first to greet the two of you. 

“You’re glowing!” Sylvie exclaimed, “how much longer until we get to meet this little one?”

“Well, that’s why we’re here,” Kelly started. 

“The doctor is worried that the baby is too big and may cause some risk to the baby. We’ve scheduled a c-section for Saturday morning at 11:30,” you announced, excited.

“That’s amazing!” Sylvie smiled.

“You ready for this?” Matt asked Kelly.

“Yeah, I’m ready. She’s gonna do great,” he replied, “I’ve got to go talk to Boden about extending my furlough though.”

“He’s between meetings right now. Now is your best bet to talk to him.”

“Come with me, I want some opinions on my replacement.”

Matt followed Kelly into Boden’s office. 

“Mind if I have a listen?” Sylvie asked.

“Go ahead, Doctor said she’s got a strong heartbeat. Been kicking like crazy too,” you laughed.

Grabbing your hand, Sylvie led you to the back of 61.

“Two days away, huh?” Sylvie asked, grabbing the stethoscope from the jump bag.

“Yeah, the timeline was a bit of a shock, but more time Kelly and I can spend with the baby together, so I’ll take it,” you smiled, rubbing your belly. 

Sylvie put the earpieces in her ears and brought the chest piece up to your belly. 

“Magical, isn’t it?” You giggled. 

“She’s so strong. Maybe she’ll be a firefighter like her daddy,” Sylvie laughed. 

“With a family like 51, she’d kick ass at it for sure.”

“Should we go see the boys?”

“Make sure Kelly isn’t trying to get back on shift today,” you laughed.

“Here I’ll help you up,” Sylvie offered, reaching out her hand. 

As she helped you back on your own two feet, you started to feel a little woozy and Sylvie could tell.

“Hey, you okay?” She asked, gripping your forearm.

“Yeah I’m fine, just a little head rush.”

“You should sit down.”

“No no I’m okay, really Sylvie. Thank you. Let’s go see Kelly and Matt.”

“Okay, but I’m gonna bring the stethoscope just in case.”

“Fine by me,” you smiled.

Walking over to Boden’s office, you saw Kelly with a few tears on his face through the window. 

Sylvie knocked on the door and you followed her inside. 

“What’s wrong?” You asked.

“Nothing baby, I’m okay,” he replied, wrapping his arms around you. 

As you used your thumbs to wipe the tears from his face, more streamed along behind them. His mouth with a slight smile. 

“What did you do with my husband?” You asked, looking at Matt and Wallace.

“He was talking about the baby and how happy he is to be becoming a dad,” Matt laughed.

Boden, Matt and Sylvie quietly left the room as you cupped Kelly’s face in your hands.

“Baby I love you and I love this little girl so much,” he laughed, wiping the tears from his face. 

“I love you too babe. I didn’t know you felt thi-“

Kelly caught you off guard with a passionate kiss.

“Let’s get you home,” he smiled.

“Can you believe we get to meet our daughter tomorrow?” You asked, smiling from ear to ear.

“You ready?” Kelly asked, packing the rest of his things for the hospital. 

“As soon as we finish packing for the baby. Then, yes,” you laughed.

“You pick out the outfits for her and I’ll pack the rest. You need sleep baby.”

“I’ll be fine. I don’t want to forget anything.”

“Five more minutes then I’m tucking you into bed. We’re having a baby tomorrow, baby,” he smiled.

Kelly dropped you off out front and went over to the lot to park. You found yourself a bench to sit on while waiting for your husband. An older man was sat down beside you a moment later.

“What are you here for, young lady?” He asked.

“A c-section. My baby is too big so I’ve got to have surgery. You?” 

“Bad heart. Getting a new valve today.”

“That’s exciting, why aren’t you in there?”

“Could say the same for you.”

“I guess that’s true,” you laughed.

“Truth is, they’re putting a pig valve in me. I’m going to be 1/200th part pig by the end of the day. That don’t sit right with me. My son already doesn’t talk to me, why would he talk to me when I’m part pig?” He grumbled.

“I’ll tell you what. Once they do my surgery and say I’m all good, I’ll come by to see you, let you meet the baby.”

“You’d do that for an old guy like me?”

“Hell yeah I would. What’s your name? I’ll have one of my nurses look you up.”

“Aaron Whitley.”

You saw Kelly parking the car and walking towards the hospital.

“Looks like I’ll have to let you go. My husband is walking up,” you laughed.

“With a good looking husband like that, I’d leave me too,” he chuckled, “he looks really strong, what does he do for work?”

“He’s a rescue squad lieutenant with the CFD.”

“Good genes.”

“I guess so,” you smiled.

Kelly walked over with your bag.

“Kelly, this is Aaron. He’s having surgery too today,” you announced.

“Nice to meet you Aaron. I’d love to get to know you, but I’ve got to get her upstairs,” he replied, “thanks for taking good care of her, Aaron.”

“I’ll see you soon,” you smiled.

Kelly shook his hand and you waved behind you as you walked in the front doors to the hospital. Today was the day.

Game of Survival: Part 1

After tragedy strikes Rafael Barba’s little sister moves back to New York City for a fresh start. Will she be able to move on with the help of her loving big brother and perhaps find happiness with a certain lieutenant  in SVU.

Hey lovlies. I know its been forever, but I had this idea for a series and I just had to write it. 

Series takes place at the beginning of season 18 of Law and Order: SVU and has references to One Chicago. Reader is canonicallly bisexual and in her mid-thirties.

You let out a small sigh as you took in the familiar office that you’d not stepped foot in for over a year. Taking in the cozy office of your older brother you settled on the comfy brown couch knowing it would probably be a while before he came back from court.

He was always busy that didn’t mean that he didn’t have time for you, given you lived hours away and you both worked insane hours.

You usually didn’t hear from each other apart from a weekly phone call whenever you both had time which didn’t seem often these days.

Glancing down at your phone your e/c eyes landed on the different apartment listings that you’d been scanning through.

Nothing had caught your eye in all honesty this had been a spare whim of the moment decision one that you’d not regret.

You’d needed a change. A change had been needed for a while and you’d finally decided it was time, time to head home and start over and get a fresh start so to speak.

Severide and Casey had helped you pack up your things over the weekend and you’d made the long drive from Chicago back to New York with nothing but your car and a small U-Haul.

A deep huff fell from your lips as you found the couch growing more comfortable by the minute the long drive catching up with you.

The next thing you knew you were being startled awake as Rafael’s surprised voice filled your ears stirring you from the dreamless slumber you’d fallen into.

“Y/N? Y/N Wake up. What the hell are you doing here?” Your older brother retorts his voice holding so many questions ever the lawyer.

 You groaned opening your eyes finding your big brother of nine years sitting beside you on the couch. He was dressed in one of his well-tailored suits his light brown hair combed back in a neat style.

“Hi, Rafa. Sorry, I fell asleep. It was a long drive. Ummm. I’m back in New York permanently this time. I moved out of Kelly’s place this weekend and drove the twelve and a half hours straight through.” You said knowing your brother was processing what you’d told him his mind was always a step ahead of the conversation.

He knew that the past few years had been hard for you and that ever since the incident you’d been trying to pick up the shattered pieces of your life.

What was left of it. How you’d been able to keep going at all had been a surprise to you.

It was evident the only reason you’d made it this far was the love and support of your family and friends. Those closest to you the people you considered family had helped you through the roughest time of your life they’d helped you pick up the pieces and try to throw your life back together.

Rafael sat there for a moment glancing over at you with a concerned brotherly brow.

He knew it had been hard for you after you’d lost Leslie, you’d been a broken shell of the woman you once were.

The woman who had a ferocity and a fire in you a fierceness that hadn’t dimmed even with the rough life you’d come from had disappeared.

You were softer now than you’d once been quiet and calm, gentle, they’d always been attributes you’d carried yet they seemed to control you these days.

Rafael had been surprised when you’d told him of your plans to go from paramedic to police officer after losing your fiancé several years prior.

He’d worried his mami and abuelita had worried, yet you’d managed to pass through the academy with flying colors and soon became a damn good cop with an even better reputation.

“Well, this is entirely unexpected but it's great to see you Hermana.” Rafael purred pulling you into a tight hug pressing a kiss to your head as you clung to him finding comfort in his embrace.

“I take it you don’t have an apartment or anything settled out yet which is fine. You can stay with me until you find a place.”

“But what about Son-“ You started not at all wanting to impose on your brother and his boyfriend who was over at Rafael’s so much you were surprised that your brother hadn’t asked him to move in yet.

That wasn’t any of your business and you really weren’t the best person to come to when it came to relationships or relationship advice.

Your big brother’s voice filled your ears startling you from your thoughts that had been getting away from you over the past few weeks.

That’s another reason you’d decided to move the city was too different, too quiet, and no matter where you look Leslie was everywhere.

A change had been necessary, you’d wanted to heal actually heal, and being with your family had seemed like the best way to go about that.

“Oh don’t worry about Sonny. You know he loves you. You’ve gotten along. You staying with me won’t be an issue.

I’m sure you’d much rather stay with me than mami anyways.” He chuckled knowing your mother would have his head if she heard his comment.

“Alright, Rafa I’ll stay with you if you insist.” You sighed pulling out of your big brother’s hold rolling your eyes at him.

Rafael could be many things a sassy pain in the ass for starters, but he’d been the best big brother ever since Lucia had taken you in and adopted you when you were eight years old.

Even though Rafael was nine years older he’d always made time for you and though you were close with your mother you and Rafael had been thick as thieves for as long as you could remember.

“I do insist just like I insist on taking you to lunch. Come on. When’s the last time you’ve had a decent meal?” Your big brother quipped raising the infamous Barba brow in your direction.

A sigh fell off your lips Rafael knew you better than anyone having a little sister who was a first responder and working the crazy hours you did you’d often forgotten to eat.

“Last night…” The words tumbled out of your mouth as Rafael’s face hardened giving you a knowing expression forcing a deep huff from your lips as you continue.

“Okay technically it was the night before Herman and the rest of the gang threw me a going away party at Molly’s.” The words tumbled out of your mouth as you stood standing to your feet as Rafael walked you out.

The light brown-haired man rolled his eyes knowing an order of your favorite Chinese food was calling your name.

“Come on let's get some food into you before you blow away or pass out on me.” Rafael sighed throwing an arm around your shoulders as he led you toward the elevators.

“Rafa I’m fine. You act as though I don’t eat. Trust me when I can I do. You know this. I have the Barba genes maybe not literally but metaphorically.

With Abuelita and Mami’s cooking, it was only a matter of time before I become a foodie just like yours truly.” The words tumbled from your mouth as you gave the man a once over followed by your first real smile ever since you’d stepped foot back into your hometown.

“I’m not a foodie.” Your brother sassed knowing that he actually was a foodie and when he’d started dating Sonny that had only intensified. It didn’t help the chatty Italian man was an exceptional cook and one of his main love languages was acts of service.

You were grateful that Rafael had found someone like Sonny, he was warm and loving and made sure that Rafael was taken care of and you appreciated it more than he’d ever know.

It had been hard being away from your family for so many years, but when the opportunity presented itself to move to Chicago alongside joining Firehouse 51 you’d been unable to say no.

Back then you’d been a fresh-faced twenty-four-year-old who was ready to pursue your dream of being a paramedic and saving lives.

Now after a decade in Chicago you were back in New York for a fresh start you knew this would be good for you and that’s what Leslie would have wanted for you as well.

She’d have wanted you to be happy and continue your life not wallowing in the grief that had been all-consuming for the past two years.

You owed it to yourself and you owed it to her to find happiness again. That’s what she’d wanted for you to enjoy living again even with her gone.

It was the only way you knew to keep her memory alive. You needed to start living again and maybe in time you would.

Going out for dinner with your big brother was a good start you felt much calmer as you leant into Rafael’s side glad that you had such a strong support system behind you.

Matt Casey- Fight For Us Pt3

Ella is at home with her nanny, a wonderful lady named Zuri, who has been with us since Ella turned 1

"There could be squatters inside" Severide says to dad

"We don't have long on this one" dad replies "YN make sure you and Shay are ready for smoke inhalation victims"

"Got it" I give him and nod. All I can do now is sit back and what the others work. Nervously I watch Matt run into the fire

"The smokes looking pretty bad" next thing I know Matt is walking out with an elderly man. I rush over to him and Matt helps the man sit down

"Your in good hands now. YNs the best of the best" I give Matt a little smile and place an oxygen mask over the man's head while I check for possible burns.

As Herrmann and Mills come out of the building the fire seems to get worse. Mills states that there was someone else in the building and he wants 1 more minute to get the person out. Dad calls it and we all move back just in time as the building collapses.

Unfortunately word gets out that a man died in the fire and now it's all in the news

"Happy Halloween grandad" Ella runs over to dad in her princess costume

"Happy Halloween Princess Ella. Guess what? After school I'm gonna break out a bottomless bowl of treats"

"Yay" she claps before running into the firehouse to say hi to everyone

"How are you holding up?" Dad asks

"Alright I guess" I shrug following dad inside holding Matts hand

"We will be once this is all over with"

"Momma Kelly gave me sweets"

"He did? How lucky. But let's eat them later yeah?"

"You best say by to everyone, mommas gonna take you to school" Matt says looking at the clock

"Hey, Lieutenant Casey, YN I lust

saw your car out front. Something happened to it" Niki says walking in

"Ella stay with grandad a moment" I say following Matt outside with Kelly not far behind me to see our tires slashed

"Damn it" Matt sighs

"You want me to drive Ella to school?" Kelly offers

"Please that would be amazing. I'll see if Zuri can pick her up after school and drop her off here" Kelly walks off to go and get Zuri "Matt?" I nervously say "please tell me this isn't anything to do with Voight"

"It probably some kids messing around. It's Halloween after all"

"Hope your right"

Matt ends up ringing a tow truck for the car, Severide has offered a lift home later while Zuri has picked Ella up from school and brought her to the firehouse

"Thank you Zuri"

"It's no problem I'll see you tomorrow"

"Ok let's tell uncle Kelly your here so we can go trick or treating"

"Truck 81, Ambulance 61. Man down, 3500 block of North Clarke"

"Ok I promise that as soon as I'm back we will go ok"

"Ok" Ella shrugs. I take her to niki and ask if she can watch her for a bit, which she agrees to.

Shay and I jump into the ambo and shay drives to the location. On arrival it's party central. We get out of the ambo and take the gurney out

"Halloween sucks" Shay says looking around at all the fake injuries. Thankfully Matt gets a location on the injured person and we follow him into the crowd. A man is lying on the floor shaking

"Shay take his head. Has he taken any drugs?" I ask a woman who's stood with us

"No, just a couple beers. Then all of a sudden

his eyes rolled back in his head and he dropped"

she replies

"Does he have a history of seizures?" Shay asks as I place in an IV line

"I don't think so. But this is only our second date"

"Alright ready turn him over" I say as Cruz slides the back board under him

"Hey, let me help out, fellas.." a man in a fake fireman costume walks over

"Stay back, sir" Matt warns

"Yeah how about givin' me a C-4 tube and lidocaine drip?"

"Let them do their job" Herrmann says standing in the way of the fake fireman and me

"All right, come on! Move it out!" Matt says as Cruz and Hermann lift the man on to the gurney, Shay and I take off to the ambo.

After we arrive back at the firehouse I grab my things and finally take Ella trick or treating while Matt stays at the firehouse just for a few more hours.

Summary: A dangerous call for Firehouse 51 leaves Y/n severely injured, but when she insists her boyfriend Crockett be the one to operate, and Goodwin refuses, things take a turn for the worse

“You’re gonna be okay, Y/n,” Kelly assured me as they loaded me onto the stretcher so that Violet and Sylvie could do their work.

“I fell out of a third story window, Kel,” I remind him. “So I don’t really think I’m gonna be okay. I need you to call Crockett for me. My phone is on my seat in Truck 81. He’s on speed dial. Just tell him what happened so he’s not surprised when I’m brought to the ED.”

“Y/n, you’ve got a nasty break on your left arm,” Violet informed me. “We’re gonna have to put it in a sling so that we can safely transport you to Med. I’m warning you now, it’s going to hurt like hell.”

“Just do it,” I mutter. With one movement, Violet lifted up my arm and placed it in the sling, causing a wave of pain to roll over me. I cried out in pain, closing my eyes as the tears welled up.

“Sorry,” Violet apologized. “I promise, as soon as we get you into the ambo, I’ll give you some pain meds. Besides the arm, what else hurts the most.”

“My chest and stomach. It feels like someone is stepping on me,” I breathe out as another shockwave of pain hit me.

“That’s not good, is it?” Joe questioned.

“No. Not good at all,” Sylvie responded. “There could be internal bleeding, which means we’ve got to get her to Med right away. Lets get her in the ambo.”

“You’ll be all right, kid,” Herrmann told me. “Just hang in there.”

"Y/n!" Crockett shouted and ran over to my gurney as I was wheeled into the ED. "What the hell happened? I got a call from Severide saying you were hurt."

"I can't really talk. It hurts to breathe," I gasp out.

"Lets get her to a trauma room," Maggie advised and directed Sylvie and Violet to an open room.

"She was complaining of chest pain," Kelly revealed to Crockett. "Brett said that could mean internal bleeding. Is that right?"

"Yeah," Crockett confirmed as I was transferred to a bed. "But we can't be sure of anything until we run some tests. Y/n, darling, can you follow my finger for me?"

"I didn't hit my head. The way I fell, my air tank took most of the impact," I explain breathily. "Crockett, it's getting hard to breathe."

"All right. Lets get a chest x-ray!" Crockett called out. A man rolled the large device into my trauma room, and everyone took a step back. It only took a minute for the image to pop up on the screen, but when Crockett saw it, his brow creased. "You've got some nasty broken ribs. Looks like one of them punctured your lung. We're gonna need to repair that surgically."

"Crockett!" I exhale painfully, gasping for breath. "I c-can't.......my chest.......it hurts so bad."

"Y/n, we're gonna need to sedate you and put you on a ventilator so that we can get you up to surgery safely," Crockett disclosed.

"What? No! No surgery!" I insist. "Crockett, you know how I feel about hospitals."

"You need this, baby. I'm not gonna let you die," Crockett argued.

"Fine, but I have one condition. You have to be the one to operate," I instruct. "I only trust you."

"Goodwin won't allow that. You know she won't," Crockett spoke.

"Then convince her. Because I'm not getting that surgery unless you're the one to operate on me," I state.

Crockett's POV

"Hey," Herrmann greeted me as I stepped into the lobby. It seemed that all of Firehouse 51 was there to see how Y/n was doing. "What's the word, doc? Is our girl gonna be okay?"

"She's gonna need surgery," I declare. "One of her broken ribs punctured a lung, and she's also got some internal bleeding we need to repair. The thing is, she's being stubborn and will only have the surgery if I'm the one to perform it."

"Well, yeah. Y/n's afraid of hospitals," Cruz brought up. "She always has been. And you're her boyfriend, so she only trusts you."

"The thing is, Crockett can't do the surgery. Goodwin won't let him," Kelly put forth.

"Have you talked to Goodwin?" Stella quizzed.

"Not yet, no," I answer.

"Then go talk to her. You said it yourself, she needs this surgery," Violet pointed out. "So do it."

"It's not that simple, but I'm sure as hell not giving up. I'm going to go talk to Goodwin now," I admit. "I don't know how I'm gonna do it, but I'm gonna convince her to let me to the surgery. I don't care if it costs me my job. I'm not having my girlfriend die."

"Absolutely not. You know our policies here. We can't have you operating on someone you have a relationship with," Ms. Goodwin reminded me. "You're too close to this case."

"I know the rules. I'm just asking you to reconsider them just this once," I request.

"Dr. Marcel," Ms. Goodwin started, only for me to cut her off.

"With all due respect, Ms. Goodwin, every second we stand here arguing is a second that Y/n is getting worse. And I'm not gonna let my girlfriend die because of some stupid policies!" I exclaim. "So you can suspect me or revoke my privileges if you want. Hell, you can even fire me. But nothing is gonna stop me from saving Y/n's life."

Y/n's POV

"Ugh," I groan groggily as I opened my eyes. "Why is it so bright in here?"

"Baby. Hey," Crockett breathed out as he entered the room, taking a seat in the chair next to my bed. "How are you feeling?"

"Pretty good. But that could be because you guys are pumping me full of painkillers," I note as Crockett's hand gravitated towards mine. "Did the surgery go well?"

"I would hope seeing as I was the one who did it," Crockett replied.

I smiled. "You convinced Goodwin to let you do it?"

"Not exactly. Lets just say I'm not exactly in Goodwin's good graces now," Crockett announced.

I frowned. "What? What do you mean?"

"She told me I couldn't do the surgery, but I wasn't gonna let you die, so I did it anyways. Her and the board are having a meeting right now to figure out what the next course of action should be," Crockett informed me.

"Crockett, if I knew you'd get in trouble, I wouldn't have insisted that you do the surgery," I confess.

"Hey. I don't regret a thing," Crockett claimed. "Seriously. You are my top priority. Not this hospital, and certainly not my job."

"Dr. Marcel," Ms. Goodwin summoned and entered my hospital. "May I have a word?"

"Whatever you have to say to me, you can say it in front of Y/n," Crockett said.

"Okay. I just got done meeting with the board. While what you did goes against our policies here at Med, you were doing what was asked of your patient. And while Y/n shouldn't have been under your care in the first place due to your relationship, the board agrees that you took the course of action you believed would save her life. And you did. So there will be no serious consequences for your actions," Ms. Goodwin revealed. "However, we will need to discuss some minor rules I will need you to follow for the next few weeks."

"Sure. Okay. Thank you, Sharon," Crockett exhaled.

"Don't thank me. Thank the board. As for you, Y/n, I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope you have a speedy recovery," Ms. Goodwin wished me before exiting the room.

"I love you. You know that, right?" I ask Crockett.

"I do," Crockett affirmed and leaned over to peck me on the lips. "And I love you too. Now, as much as I would love to hog you, all of 51 is still waiting in the lobby. They'd all like to see you if you're up for visitors."

"I'm probably a little high on painkillers right now, but who cares. After all, besides you, they are the only other people who have really seen me at my lowest, so seeing me loopy on meds is nothing. Send them in!" I chirp. "But once they're all gone, you're gonna go out and grab some takeout cause I am not eating any shitty hospital food."

Crockett laughed. "Of course. Only the best for you, darling. I'll get you whatever you want. Now, I'm gonna go grab them from the lobby. Sit tight and I'll be back shortly."

What I Liked:

Opening with a Stellaride shower scene! They're just so beautiful!!

I love when Kelly gets an OFI case. Always good stuff.

Herman & Kidd fighting over Ritter.

Brett just being her normal supportive, happy self. I squealed at that picture of her & Julia. Then I laughed at the others b/c it's terrible photoshop.

Severide, Carver & Cruz!!!

Brett suggesting Carver take Violet as his date to the wedding. She knows Violet has or had a crush.

What I Didn't Like:

Gallo leaving.... but I understand family comes first.

The disagreement over Kelly working the OFI case. I get both sides but yeah....

Something's up with Herman & I have a feeling it's not good.

Gallo, Ritter & Violet goodbye. Tears! Gonna miss them.

Stellaride

Ok so Kelly is clearly passionate about this OFI stuff. What he did was wrong. Not contacting her at all b/c you can easily conclude that he loves the work more than her. She was an afterthought. She's scared that he will do the same thing again, but a compromise has to be made. He took his name off the Special Investigators List & he's clearly upset about that. It can quickly turn into resentment. Considering his comment to her before they got married "of course you're happy b/c you got what you wanted" something like that. It can get bad fast. I just hope they don't turn him into Jay.

I don't see this ending well & I think they might be headed for divorce if something doesn't give.

Brettsey

Don't care about Brettsey. It's just such a boring & forced ship. However, I'm happy for Brett. Specifically for her & baby Julia. She finally has the family she's been wanting. I loved this storyline with Dawson even tho it ended in 💔. Wishing the best for Brett/Julia.

Stella/Carver

Until I get confirmation with actions/words, I'm going to assume Carver still has feelings for Stella. It has been six months so maybe those feelings started to die when Stella went after Severide. They still have a past together that hasn't been revealed yet & I suspect they are saving it for a reason. I just know he's really good at hiding his true feelings when it comes to her.

Violet/Carver

Either they are hooking up or it's something else entirely. I think they are cute & there's chemistry. Although she seems annoyed or that's just a front.

Violet/Brett

Another duo I'm going to miss. That scene was so sweet. Violet is going to be amazing as PIC b/c she had such an amazing example.

Unexpected friendship moments in this episode: a) Boden and Cruz bonding over being dads and organising a playdate for Terrence (omg he's grown up so much!) and Javi, which was real sweet b) Severide sharing his grieving experience with Violet and giving her the strength she needed to come back. I don't think we appreciate Kelly enough for his vulnerability and for how much he has matured over the years c) Stella calling Trudy "Hey, girl" on the phone. I need to see these two on the screen together, hanging out or something because that's a friendship I'd love to see.

Bonnie Somerville as Dr. Christa Lorenson, a mature first-year resident. She was married with a son who died of brain cancer. Her experience and her divorce inspired her to attend medical school (season 1).[7]

Melanie Chandra as Dr. Malaya Pineda, a first-year resident (seasons 1–2). She went to medical school and did her internship at Angels Memorial, and is more familiar with the ER. She is a lesbian, who was once involved with a resident when she was a medical student.

William Allen Young as Dr. Rollie Guthrie, an ER attending physician with a very nurturing style; he takes Angus under his wing in his first days in the ER. Guthrie's wife committed suicide, a death that strained his relationship with his son, a surgeon. During season 2, Guthrie is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, and undergoes corrective neurological surgery to delay the onset of symptoms. Guthrie had a daughter who died from carbon monoxide poisoning while Guthrie tried to save his son from a similar death.

Harry Ford as Dr. Angus Leighton, a first-year resident. His father is on the hospital board. He feels overshadowed by that and by the achievements of his older brother, a former resident, but slowly grows in confidence. In his second year he is encouraged to transfer and become a surgical resident.

Benjamin Hollingsworth as Dr. Mario Savetti, a first-year resident. He grew up poor and sees emergency medicine as his way out. He worked as a bartender before medical school.

Luis Guzmán as Jesse Salander, known as "Mama". A senior nurse who manages the residents, Jesse is tough but caring and supportive of the students. He and Dr. Rorish have a long-term, close friendship.

Boris Kodjoe as Dr. Will Campbell, Chief of Surgery. In season 2 he is assigned as the new Chief of the combined Surgery and Emergency medicine department in order to save costs, causing strife between him and Rorish. Campbell has a disabled daughter (season 2–3; recurring in season 1).

Jillian Murray as Dr. Heather Pinkney, a surgical resident who becomes involved with Mario.(season 2; recurring in season 1). He quickly ends it when he hears about her side relationship with Dr. Campbell. She gets in further trouble when it's revealed she's providing Angus with Adderall. When confronted by Campbell, she threatens to turn their past relationship into a sexual harassment case.

Noah Gray-Cabey as Elliot Dixon, a first-year resident in the ER (season 2-3).

Emily Tyra as Noa Kean, an ER resident and former dancer. She begins a relationship with Dr. Mario Savetti (season 3; recurring season 2)

Obv I went back and watched the Stellaride hospital scene like 15 times just now.  Things I loved:

- Stella being so worried she can’t even form a single complete thought

- the way she is afraid to touch him where he’s injured so she just keeps touching his face
