i'm obsessing over this screengrab I took of Orym mid-Ludinus speech (and seconds before Imogen shoves the lava on him).
like, look how fucking angry he is. that's the face of a man who is seeing the murderer of his family for the first time up close and personal and is personally plotting exactly how he's going to gut him.
can someone with better art skills than me please redraw this as Orym, I need angry halfling in my life so fucking badly.
Orym is the president of the "I hate Ludinus' guts and I want to spill them on the floor" fan club.
The Shard of Rau'shan - or - Introducing the Emperor and the Empress
--
I drew this right after the episode aired but couldn't continue it until now. What a couple of episodes,, what an arc. I love them so much.
[Image Description: an illustration of Ashton Greymoore and Fearne Calloway from Critical Role C3e75. Ashton hovers above the magma pit, their skin glowing orange, hair burned to a yellow-white color, and clothes burning, with the crystal shard in one hand and Fearne supported up with the other. Fearne clings to Ashton with one hand and also has a hand on the shard, her dress and hair floats up around her along with globs of molten rock. Their eyes glow the same color as the shard and both have points of light shining from them like a crown. Fearne has a look of worry on her face, Ashton looks surprised. The background is rivulets of glowing magma flowing into a pool, glowing orange, reds, browns and yellows.
Several of the big moments in the last episode couldn't have been possible without specific level-up choices.
Orym sticking with Fighter gave him all the attacks he needed to lay the smackdown on that reiloran juggernaut.
Fearne taking her second level in Rogue gave her the cunning actions she needed to close the distance AND assist Ashton in liberating the Shard from its resting place.
And Laudna choosing to max her Charisma is what put her spellcasting modifier at just the right threshold (+5) to be able to effectively counter Ludinus' 9th-level spell drop.
Travis describing Imogen as "the daughter of Ludinus's coworker" and I cannot unsee how Ludinus would be right at home in a modern corporate office setting and be just as insufferable. Upper management. The pontificating. Can you imagine this man slowly pacing the stage at a company Town Hall meeting talking about his vision to a captive audience of peons
Ashton and Fearne, rising together from the lake of lava. Earth and fire, the empress and the emperor. Both fated to be there. Neither knowing what they’re doing but going for it anyways. Rad as hell.
