The insanity continues. They kept releasing more photos from this editorial in Replica Man. I said to myself, "Self, you do not need a magazine just because Eddie Redmayne is in it. No matter HOW much gender he's serving."

And then they showed us the corset pics, and his slutty little waist was the final straw.

So yeah, I ordered this from the UK since they don't sell it in the US. It will go on the shelf next to "Denim People", a knitting pattern book by Rowan Knits, featuring Eddie modeling knitwear circa 2003.

So I think the thesis statement of my cabaret show (shhhhh, just go with it and pretend that a thesis statement is a normal thing for a cabaret to have) is going to be about how my love of singing and my relationship with my voice have always been my guiding stars in coming to a deeper understanding of my own gender identity. How my identity as a singer and my gender identity are so completely intertwined that I don't even know how to talk about one without talking about the other.

But, you know. Spoken in pithier, more theatrical lines than that, and illustrated by a bunch of (mostly) show tunes.

Not too tall an order, right?

I can't get the notion out of my head of putting together a show number that is essentially a medley of excerpts from various soprano arias I sang in college. Because I spent all that time and energy learning them and some of them were absolutely stunning and legitimately a lot of fun to sing out of context and I'm still mad that I've had no return whatsoever on that investment.

(The excerpts would be interspersed with vamp sections during which my accompanist would play the role of All My Old Voice Teachers and we would have hilariously but excruciatingly awkward conversations about my total failure to perform opera singer femininity correctly.)

In conclusion, you should never ever give me a project with no parameters because my brain will ABSOLUTELY INSIST on doing THE MOST and I feel like this can only end in exhaustion and chaos and broken dreams
