There is this character I really like in a show. I'm really interested in seeing her be developed and analysed and all that but the problem is she is mainly presented in fandom space as the love interest of one (if not the) main characters. Like, she is a major character but virtually all fanfiction that has a strong focus on her is centered around her relationship with the main character in question. And I like that ship, I really do, but I want to read about her, not about that ship. But no, I don't get to. Because if I want to watch edits that capture her vibe I have to sift through dozens focused on how hot she is before I even find one and if I want to read a fanfic about her as a character I either have to read one focussed on romance or re-read one of the three fics I have already read several times over. Honestly, this character is the first one making me realise how bad the prevalence of amatonormativity and oversexualisation in fandom is. Because it's the first time I love a character so much and at the same time don't care much for their love interest so reading something focussed on both feels like an unwanted addition.
For those wondering, I'm talking about Caitlyn Kiramman from Arcane.
