Okay so I wrote this one out with the intention to make it in comic form but I could never draw it out in a way I was happy with. So I'm just gonna share it as is cuz I still actually like this little snippet of a moment. It takes place during the whole garlemald stuff in ew when miko and the twins are looking for ceruleum in that little playground with jullus. Miko had just recently learned his real dad had been alive all this time and had been dragged back to garlemald to work on the ceruleum mines but had passed away only a couple of years ago. So poor boy was dealing with a few feelings :')

All the stories Miko had heard spoke true. Garlemald was cold. Too cold. He sat beside the fire they had made and despite its puny state not even its flames did much to stave off the bite of it. Alphinaud had volunteered his and Alisaie's services to go collect more firewood. Alphinaud was, after all, a self proclaimed professional at wood gathering after their past trek through the churning mists. They were still within sight but Miko kept an ear angled in their direction just in case. To his right sat Jullus, his position leaving him at a perfect vantage point to keep the three of them within his view.

Ever vigilant their keeper, this Jullus. He seemed an alright lad to Miko. His company was just as cold as the land he hailed from but Miko had received similar icy receptions in Ishgard so it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. It was the threat on the twins that fueled Miko's resentment, but he tried to remind himself not to hold it against the man. He wasn't the one making the orders, after all.

But no that wasn't what really consumed his mind at the moment. Miko twirled a small twig between his fingers contemplating the news he'd received from the ceruleum miners. His heart still clenched and his stomach rolled at the reminder. He had to find a moment to go up to that place in the mountains they had pointed out. He had to...leave something. Right? Spare some words? But Gods there was still so much to do. And he hadn't seen even a single sprout of color in this barren tundra. What would he even offer?

Miko trained his eyes harder on the twig between his fingers. "Say, Jullus," he began. The man beside him seemed to jolt at his sudden words but glared at him all the same. Miko ignored his less than welcoming gaze. "Are there any flowers around here in Garlemald?"

"Oh what is there not enough greenery here for you tree hugging Eorzeans?" Jullus growled.

Miko snorted at that and smirked. "Have you ever actually hugged a tree? It can actually be quite comforting."

Jullus let out a disdaining "tch" in response which didnt go unnoticed to Miko but he ignored it all the same. He was quiet for a moment then, trying to decide if it was worth it to continue broaching the subject. To reveal such personal intentions behind the question. His eyes still not leaving the dried twig spinning before him, Miko let out a tired sigh.

"I need to visit a grave. It's up in the mountains. I figure I should, I don't know, leave something. Back home we'd leave nymeia lilies, but something tells me they don't grow around here. So I was just wondering if there's something more local I could use instead. I'm afraid I don't know much about Garlean plants. Or what you offer your dead..." he trailed off.

Jullus was silent beside him for a moment. Watching him. From the corner of Miko's eye he caught the way his shoulders seemed to soften just the tiniest bit. "Well, there should be some mountain flowers up there on your way. They're these small, red things. Snow flax usually has some blooms but it might not be the season for them. We used to have flower shops for that sort of thing."

Miko hummed in response. He turned his gaze out towards the mountains then. So distant and shrouded in gloom and grey, snow heavy clouds. What a desolate and depressing place to be buried. He deserved better than that...

"Were they someone important?" Jullus suddenly asked, his curiosity obviously getting the better of him.

Miko turned his gaze back down towards the fire and flicked the twig into it. It snapped and popped briefly, sounding far louder than it should've in the snowy silence. "Family," he replied ruefully.

Jullus seemed to start at that. "I had no idea you had family from Garlemald-"

"He wasn't from Garlemald," Miko snapped quickly. Jullus flinched at his sudden shift in tone and eyed him carefully. The flames from the fire seemed to reflect brightly in his eyes and for a moment despite the flames Jullus seemed to feel colder. A sudden shiver running through him chilling him deep. Since he'd met this warrior of light there really hadn't been a moment the man before him seemed to match all the tales they heard. He seemed far too soft, quick to smile and humor. But this moment and the one before when they had attached those collars to the twins, he saw...something. A something that truly was terrifying. But as quick as it came, the tension in Miko's shoulders softened and the glow of the flames in his eyes seemed to simmer.

'Not from Garlemald', eh? Jullus seemed to gather what that must've meant. Garlemald had recruited many in their conquests. Many against their will. Jullus sighed, "I'm sorry."

"You don't have to be. You weren't the one responsible," Miko finally turned to look at him, an old exhaustion filling his eyes.

"Even still," Jullus pressed, "They are still my countryman. And when I told you about what happened to my own family you offered what I assume was sincere sympathy. So I'm just repaying the gesture."

Miko seemed to eye him carefully, squinting a bit. Once he seemed satisfied Jullus was being genuine a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "So, snow flax?"

Jullus let out a huff of a chuckle and shook his head. Truly this man must be a little mad, he thought. "Sure."

Miko's ear trained towards the twins flicked at the sound of their approaching return. But just before they could join them Miko gave Jullus one last soft smile. "Thanks, Jullus."

"I think we've gathered a sufficient amount! What say you?" Alisaie suddenly declared as they saddled up and began depositing the fruits of their labor into the fire.

Miko immediately turned his attention to them, his face beaming and bright. "I'd expected no less. Alphinaud, you are truly a master of your craft!" Miko laughed.

"It's nothing, honestly" Alphinaud grinned proudly.

Jullus watched the three of them laughing and smiling. Miko suddenly seeming so calm and at ease when just a moment before he had seemed so on the brink of rage. But it was not the explosive rage the rumors assumed. There was a deep compassion in it that he had not expected. Maybe it was just the added fuel to the fire the twins had brought, but sitting here beside these three foreigners Jullus felt just that slightly bit warmer.

Day 12 - Dowdy

Rael took a final glimpse at the mirror and adjusted their collar one last time before leaving their bedroom. They stepped across the corridor, knocked on A'viloh‘s door and waited.

"A'vi?", they loudly asked while knocking again but there was no answer. He couldn’t still be asleep at this hour, could he?

Slowly Rael opened the door to the Miqo'te‘s bedroom, hoping not to find him still undressed, but he was nowhere to be seen at all.

The Viera stepped back, furrowed their brow and then very loudly yelled: "A'viloh?!" Still no answer. Nervously they looked at their pocket watch. Could it be that he already had left? They doubted it but decided to check the kitchen table for a note he might have left…

Quickly Rael hurried down the stairs but stopped abruptly on the middle of the last flight from which they had a good view through the living room.

There A'viloh was, lazily sprawled on the sofa, headphones on, the fat neighbourhood cat on his belly and happily humming that annoying Pa-Paya tune. He looked like he just stepped out of bed, dressed entirely in his fat cat loungewear, hood on and a bunch of messy strands of his long red hair peaking out at the sides. Rael took another glance at their pocket watch and almost had a stroke.

"Please tell me you don’t plan to go like this?", they said trying their best to remain civil while they stepped in front of the sofa.

A'viloh startled and took the headphones off. "What?", he asked stupidly.

Rael sighed deeply, suppressed the urge to strangle or correct him and repeated their question.

The Miqo'te looked at them in confusion. "Go where?"

"The celebration at the sultana's palace?", Rael suggested with raised eyebrows.

"Was that today?"

"Yes.", the Viera grumbled. "And we are going to be late unless you can magically change with a snap of your fingers."

"Do I really have to go?", the Miqo'te retorted.

Rael impatiently crossed their arms in front of their chest. "You are aware that we are honorary guest?"

"I don’t think I did anything particularly honourable…", A'viloh shrugged. "Isn’t it enough if you go?"

"No, A'vi! Get up!"

"But look at Tubby.", he gestured at the fat cat sleeping on his stomach. "I can’t just wake her up! That would be cruel!"

"I don’t care about the stupid cat right now!", Rael exclaimed as they rudely grabbed said cat and dropped it on the ground.

"I cannot possible go like this, can I?", A'viloh asked unmotivated.

"Absolutely not!"

"But why not? If Urianger can go everywhere in his dowdy old nun‘s habit, I believe I can -"

Rael interrupted him and gestured to the stairs with and outstretched arm and a stern face. "Get dressed NOW!"

Without further protest the Miqo'te scurried away, while Rael added: "And please dress properly!"

"Yeah yeah…", A'viloh muttered.

"Remember!", the Viera called after him, using a mean trick to actually get him to pay attention to his wardrobe. "Thancred will be there too!"

The Miqo'te gave a loud sigh that ranged somewhere between annoyance and desperation.

"It’s not like he will care how I look as long as some cute girls will be there…"

Rael rolled their eyes. By now it was ridiculous how the two of them pretended not to care about each other. Not that Rael liked Thancred very much but the man didn’t seem to be able to decide wether he wanted to be overly nice towards A’viloh or ignore him. And A‘viloh? One day he behaved like a lovesick idiot and the next he claimed that he didn’t like Thancred at all, which would have served the Hyur right but Rael doubted it. Both of their disinterest seemed absurdly implausible considering how often they stared at each other when they thought the other wasn’t looking. It was annoying and, even if Rael absolutely didn’t want A’viloh to get hurt, they had to admit that this couldn’t go on like this forever.

Rael shook their head and went back upstairs to make sure the Miqo'te looked presentable.

I‘ll be damned if I can’t make A'vi look so gorgeous that Thancred‘s stupid eyes will pop out of his head.

I can't tell if you opted in to doing an FFXIV q&a or had it thrust upon you but while it's happening I figure I may as well ask something I haven't been able to find a clear answer on, if I install the free trial can I make a female Hrothgar or is that only for real girls

also unfortunately you can only play hrothgar and viera if you own the shadowbringers expansion which would mean you’d need to start paying a sub :( maybe someday they’ll add ShB to the free trial like they did with heavensward and stormblood tho!

until then, you can always download the dawntrail benchmark and play around with designing a hrothgal character at no charge ! but you wouldn’t be able to use her in game until 7.0 and until u had ShB! still fun though!

Had a chat with a friend of mine concerning the contemporary FFXIV community. They've experienced quite the influx of rude and uncooperative players on their server. Now, I can't speak for mine because I've only kept my sub alive to log in every month to keep an FC up until the leader decides to return, but I wonder if more people have experienced the same my friend has.

Hey, ummm. Thanks for making art of the gay cats. I don't know a ton about FFXIV, to be honest (I can't really spend hundreds of hours on a game), but I still really enjoy seeing what you put out! Also, your art style is pretty. I really like the way you draw clothes, and the types of clothes you draw and how expressive the characters are while wearing them. I just find it super neat, and I like seeing it.

Sorry if that's a bit of a scattered mess, I'm not great at this. TL;DR - Thank you for making art and being cool, please take care of yourself!

Hey and thank you so much <3 Ever since starting this blog I've been paying close attention to how I draw clothing, how it folds, how I draw male titty anatomy, cartoony facial expressions, and generally trying to make my art as gay as possible. Glad that it seems to pay off \o/

Also your stance on hundreds of hours on a game is totally valid! I'll share a little big secret, I don't really play xiv after my initial playthrough, too busy drawing and writing stuff based on one expansion, that being ShB. If you wanna simply experience the story to get better context behind fanworks, watching someone else's playthrough can be a decent replacement for actually playing it, and it can be done at your own pace without fomo that your sub runs out etc. Just my onion on this.

i've been hurting in every way a bitch can hurt

i've been putting off seeking employment since i'm still trying to figure out my physical health stuff (and my mental health stuff but to a lesser extent). i didn't want to try to get another job while recovering from a tonsillectomy and doing physical therapy, and i can't receive any unemployment benefits or short-term disability benefits. i've been denied for both. very cool

i currently pay less than $130 in bills per month, due to just cutting all of the fat from my life. i pay my credit card bill, my phone bill, and one subscription fee (yeah it's for FFXIV and it's the lowest sub type possible).

so, here i am again to grovel on my knees for whatever pennies y'all might be willing to spare. (PayPal is not preferred since they don't recognize my small, local credit union and therefore won't transfer funds to it. funds have to be sent to a friend, which can be a pain.)
