Finally picked back up a project I started a long time ago! Wanted to paint a Hayabusa figure! I took a lot some creative liberties esp with his stripes, but I'm pretty happy with how he's turned out :]

Still need to seal the paint, and get some scrap fabric to make his bandana but he's really coming along!

The Satomi Canine Warriors

Found the last Canine Warriors dog but for some reason he wants us to meet him at night. At night we battle and won. However we learn a sad truth. It turns that the original Hayabusa was killed fighting demons to save the boy father Mushi. He can't just them he has to protect them. So the orb choose us in stead. I can respect that I wonder how the princess is going to react.

I was absolutely ecstatic to find that a kind member of the Steam Community forum by the name of “Blind Fox” compiled a list of nearly every canine seen in Ōkami! This made my job so much easier. Thank you! 

Top Row: Canine Warriors Tei, Ko, Rei, Shin, and Chi.

Second Row: (first image): Canine Warriors Gi (Take), Jin (Ume), and Chu (Hayabusa), (second image): Chibiterasu*, (third image): the basic dog model you find throughout the world.

Third Row**: (first image): Kai (Kaipoku), Lika (Pirika), Kemu (Kemushiri-jiji),  Samickle (Samaikuru), (second image): Tuskle (Tusukuru), Wali (Wariunekuru), unnamed tribe members + merchants, (third image): Oki (Okikurumi).

Fourth Row: Amaterasu herself! I considered including Shiranui, but finding high quality images or gifs of her online is difficult. I think I can lump the two together in this case.

*Chibiterasu is the player character in Ōkamiden, the spiritual successor to Ōkami, released on the Nintendo DS. This character isn’t present in Ōkami! 

**You can go through most of the game without seeing most canine forms of the Oina tribe, as you have to manually paint over them with the “rejuvenation” brush for them to transform! Finding high quality images of them was a great treat.

Side note #1: I chose not to include the foxes present in the game. I try to limit my definition of canine to not involve vulpines for clarity on this blog, but this might change later. 

Side note #2: My personal favorite is Jin (Ume), I always loved his little flower marking! I thought it was very clever.

Smash Musings - Amaterasu (redo)

Amaterasu Draws Near!

Not sure if I did a moveset for Amaterasu already, but I feel I should do it right this time regardless.

So! Normal attacks primarily use the Divine Retribution Reflector, but some attacks may use the Devout Beads Rosary or the Tsumugari Glaive. Her special moves have multiple uses, making her quite the technical fighter.

(Note that her Reflector attacks don’t generally reflect projectiles)

- Can crawl. - Can wall cling (Catwalk).

- Neutral Attack: Basic three-step Reflector attack. May also enter a flurry attack where she rapidly fires Devout Beads within a mid-short range (based on its sub attack). - Side Tilt Attack: Draws a quick Power Slash in front. Can be angled. - Up Tilt Attack: Arcs the Reflector up and over herself. - Down Tilt Attack: Sweeps Reflector low. - Dash Attack: Headbutts forth (trailed by autumn leaves). - Side Smash: Rushes forth a fair distance with Thunder Edge, in a Stinger-like fashion. - Up Smash: Uses Blizzard just above herself with Tundra Beads. - Down Smash: Swings Solar Flare low and upward a bit (small hitbox behind). Strong, and reflects projectiles.

- Neutral Air Attack: Swings Reflector all around in a wide circle. - Front Air Attack: Swings Devout Beads in front. Good range. - Back Air Attack: Swings Reflector behind herself. - Up Air Attack: Jabs upward with Tsumugari. - Down Air Attack: Dives downward steeply with Tsumugari.

- Grab: Chomps onto foe. - Pummel: Issun slashes foe with Denkomaru. - Front Throw: Tosses foe up and headbutts them. - Back Throw: Swings and hurls foe behind (like with Mr. Orange). - Up Throw: Piledriver slam. - Down Throw: Digs foe into the ground. May bury.

- Neutral Special: Inferno: Use the Circle Pad to draw a line, then release the B button to ignite the line. - If you can draw an infinity symbol, this will instead unleash a powerful Fireburst attack around Amaterasu. - Side Special: Windstorm: Summons a gust of wind in front of herself. Capable of pushing foes and projectiles back (stronger effect on projectiles). - If used in the air, it will also pop Amaterasu upward a little bit. - Up Special: Greensprout: On the ground, summons a fairly large tree in front. Blocks foes and their attacks, and the tree’s appearance is fairly strong. - In the air, this will instead summon a Konohana Blossom, which will drag Amaterasu along with a vine. Press the B button again to reel Amaterasu to the Konohana Blossom faster, tackling foes in her way. - Down Special: Cherry Bomb: Summons a mid-sized bomb in front of Amaterasu. It will explode on contact with foes, or when its fuse runs out. - Amaterasu can push the bomb around herself, or even knock it around slightly with her attacks. Just know that fire attacks will detonate the bomb early. - She can only have one Cherry Bomb at a time. - Final Smash: Sunrise: With a mighty howl, Amaterasu summons the symbol of the sun just above her head. Beams of light revolve around it, knocking foes into the sun itself as it slowly expands. The sun finishes with a burst of flame and petals.

- Entrance: Warps in from a Celestial Mirror. - Idle Animation: Shakes her fur. - Idle Animation: Looks side to side.

- Up Taunt: Hunches down and growls. - Side Taunt: Sits as Issun hops on her snout. - Down Taunt: Uses the Celestial Brush to summon a few flowers at her feet.

- Victory Pose: Lets out a victory howl. - Victory Pose: Issun hops around excitedly, until Amaterasu holds him down with her paw. Issun spends the rest of the animation fuming. - Victory Pose: Uses Bloom to restore a cherry blossom.

MapleStory - Okami AU

What else could one expect of me, really. But I’ve actually had this little idea stewing around in my head for years now, but never got past some (hella old and subpar) sketches to actually draw it out. But I’ve been in an art slump for a while now and decided, ‘to heck with this. I’m drawing indulgent ideas and no one can stop me.’

And boy was it therapeutic. And fun! And my anger that this huge ass file won’t display properly is boundless.

The Heroes taking the place of the Satomi Canine Warriors is where this idea initially sprung up from, but a couple of other roles got fitted in as the years passed, most notably Beta taking Amaterasu’s place, and Alpha taking Oki’s (might draw them later too). The canine warriors also play a much larger role in this au than in okami, since I really liked them and was sad only three of them really did anything. 8′D so without further ado

"'Tei' stands for 'brotherhood'. Brotherly affection breeds understanding. It allows us to be ourselves and accept our fate."

Freud is the leader of the Maple Canine Heroes, holder of the Brotherhood Orb, and the only hero remaining with Princess Cygnus by the time Beta awakens. After the previous priestess, Aria, is killed by the demons that infiltrate the Ereve Shrine, the group broke up in order to train/take care of personal affairs. Freud remains to guard Cygnus and the village, awaiting the day his friends gather again...

"'Chu' stands for 'loyalty'. To give one's whole life for the good of one's master...To focus on the goal with all of one's concentration..."

Mercedes is the holder of the Loyalty Orb, and the dedicated queen of a small group of peaceful fox spirits that dwell in Elluel Sanctuary. The growing number of demons in the wake of the Dark Lord’s return threatens the peaceful way of life in the sanctuary, forcing Mercedes to remain to stave them off. But the call of her friends can’t be ignored, especially when another nine-tailed fox appears, invading the dreams of the people outside the sanctuary...

"'Rei' stands for 'honor'. Honor calls for careful moderation when dealing with others. If we lose this sense, we rush headlong into chaos."

Holder of the Honor Orb and the strongest of the heroes, Aran has traveled the farthest of any in her quest to become stronger, as far as the frozen lands of El Nath to the north. However, though the direwolf has returned to the land of Maple, something is amiss. She seems to have no recollection of her comrades or goals, wandering Lith Coast. But she is still driven forward by something, a nagging desire to become stronger, the idea that somewhere in this land there are people who need her...

"'Jin' stands for 'justice'. To show compassion to both the living and the dead...To care enough to give one's own life in service..."

After the death of the priestess he so loved, the holder of the Justice Orb was the first to leave, determined to grow strong enough to avenge Aria’s death. He scours Victoria City, hunting the demons attracted by the sickness that plagues the area. Grief has sharpened his loneliness, but though he misses the other heroes, he masks it with a charming smile, for he is determined to take vengeance on his own terms...

"'Chi' stands for 'knowledge'. Knowledge is useless without deep reflection. This reflection is essential in the pursuit of understanding."

Living humbly in Ellinia Village with young Lania under the name of ‘White’, Luminous reveals himself to be the holder of the Knowledge Orb. On his travels, he bared witness to (or perhaps, caused...?) the attack that would kill the real White. As he lay dying, he imparted on Luminous the vision he’d had, of Lania being killed by an arrow during the village festival on the night of the full moon, and begs Luminous to protect her in his stead. Determined to redeem himself and fulfill White’s dying wish, Luminous takes his place in the village, postponing his return to the other heroes, waiting for the chance to change Lania’s fate...

"'Ko' stands for 'wisdom'. True wisdom is that passed on from one's parents and grandparents. Rely on those who came before to show you the way in all things."

The newest and youngest addition to the heroes, Evan is the holder of the Wisdom Orb. He and Mir are best friends and battle partners, and were sent back to their family in Henesys Pass to train in relative safety. Despite his youth, he learns quickly, and strives to make the other heroes proud. Determined to prove his training has paid off, he joins Beta in rounding up the heroes. Unknown to the others, Freud has been training Evan to take his place as leader one day...

"'Shin' stands for 'faith'. Faith flows from an open heart and is exchanged between friends. It is the root of our convictions and guides us to our goals."

Having inherited the Faith Orb from his father after his death, Mir is determined to help Evan and the heroes in their battle against evil forces. Despite his naivety, it is his steadfast (if stubborn) belief that they are destined to become heroes and win that has kept Evan’s spirits up and driven them ever closer to their goal. He will make his father proud...

"'Gi' stands for 'duty'. To remain firm in one's duties in each and every aspect of life...Bravery and duty go hand in hand. Bravery shows one what is right. The greatest form of bravery is that born from a sense of duty."

Last but certainly not least is the holder of the Duty Orb, EunWol, who dwells in Ellin Forest with Lang after the girl saved his life some time past after a particularly difficult battle. Though he knows his friends call to gather, he is indebted to Lang and worries that without him, the headstrong girl will soon bite off more than she can chew. His fears seem to be justified, for when the two go exploring the Vulpes Ruins at Lang’s insistence, they find the ruins are not quite so empty as previously thought...

The Lord Commander frowned as he walked into the upper floors of the establishment. Both the loud screams and bustle of the inn drowned him immediately, which became even louder as the door to the wintery town behind shut against it’s frame. Lucia and his accompanying dragoon stepped in alongside of him, “Shall we talk to the inn-keep or?” Aymeric had always enjoyed the smell of spiced brandy, or the lull of mulled wine, but the scent of adrenaline and merriment was overwhelming tonight. He had grown up in homes and places such as these, so the smell and general grime of pubs he didn’t mind, the warmth was especially comfortable; he did mind the attitude of the crowd, however. He couldn’t quite see over the railings to the source of the commotion coming from below, but he could hear her voice; loud, clear, and heavily slurred. “Don’t you d-dare *hic* lay a hand on me you lengthy welp of *hic* trash!” The elezen’s face hardened as he began to push through the crowded stairway. Alphinaud had sought him in the Congregation just recently, reporting that Tataru had lost sight of Emilia shortly before dinner at House Fortemps. Tataru had begun a search near Camp Dragonhead, where Emilia had frequented on her previous missions for the Holy See, but no sightings of her had been reported from the latter half of the morning. Aymeric had heard mention of the Warrior of Light frequenting areas in Coerthas with her two comrades, of which his companion Estinein had taken a liking to. To assist with the reclamation of their guild, the trio would set out in the forelands to scavenge and hunt, and as Emilia had told him once before, to “clear her mind of politics and judgement.” As a protective measure, however, he had asked his long-time friend to accompany the scions and the miquo’te’s on their trips into the snowy wastelands. Ascians had become much too brave of late and with the trio being new, in addition to that of the remaining primal slayers he housed in the Foundation, it created a very desirable situation for that of the latter party. To the long and short of it, Alphinaud sought the Lord Commanders help after conducting his own search through the Pillars, “I know Emilia is sometimes prone to wander off by herself. Considering what’s happened recently I wouldn’t entirely blame her for wanting some space, but she knows to report in by linkpearl if she will be gone for any length of time. For Hydaelyn’s sake we’re trying to keep a low profile after what happened with the rest of the Scions!” In response, Ser Aymeric took to Lucia and his guard to begin a sweep of the city, including the lower dwellings of the Foundation, whilst Estinein, Yvette, and D’ve took on that of the Ishgardian wilderness. It didn’t take long, but the first report to return was from that of the nearby inn; last they’d seen, an armor-clad miqo’te wielding a rather large blade in the nearby Forgotten Knight was drinking with a collection of elezens. Since, a warrant had been issued to the guard to remove her at once, and by whatever means necessary. The Lord Commander’s lips grew taunt as he reached the landing at the end of the spiraled staircase. Both Lucia and his accompanying Temple Dragoon insisted they remain among the crowd, just on the chance that any issue were to arise by the removal of their target. The Scions may be trying to keep a low profile amongst the community of Ishgard, but this woman is the Warrior of Light. He simply would not have her name slandered before the people could have words with her themselves. “‘Oy, I told chu *hic* do yew not know eho I am yew *hic* rubbish?!” Ser Aymeric cleared the last of the crowd and the room suddenly fell silent, save for the group in the very center. Emilia, clad in bloodstained, chain-mail style armor was standing atop a long wooden bar table. His eyes widened as he took in the scene; she stood tall, one hand wrapped around the neck of a young Elezen man and the other wrapped tightly around a blade more than equal to that of the miqo’te’s height and double her width. Three others were standing before her with blades, not quite the size of her own but still large enough to rival, and steins still heralding the evenings tap. The Lord Commander began walking forward, trying his best not to brandish his own sword in the process. The miqo’te wore a feral grin on her lips revealing, in part, her sharpened canines and slightly bleeding teeth. Her hair curled in its normal one-sided fashion, matted and slick along the frame of her face, but beneath the blood and bangs her eyes stared with vibrant fervor. Unblinking, cold, and all color, aside from her knife-like pupils. She didn’t falter her stance or hold as the clang of armor and footsteps grew closer, but rather she moved back, dragging the poor Elezen with her. “Bitch, I’m warning you for the last bloody time, put me bloke down or I’m going to bury my blade in your fucking bosom.” Emilia spat a large glob of blood at the man and laughed, “Yer bloke ‘ere *hic* thought it’d be a funny to come up an’ try to wack my tail wit his blade, *hic* afer he dun called me a whore lookin’ fer a good ‘ime.” Aymeric felt a sudden, molten coolness take him from the stomach and feed in slow, branching sharpness to his chest and arms. His hand had already found and drawn his blade, it was his sudden realization of so that kept him from lunging forward and gouging it into the man’s back. “Fer dat, me thinks thi-“ “Enough.”

What little noise remained in the room stopped. The men’s yelling, the drinking, the merriment and drinks sliding along the bar, the man’s wheezing between the miqo’te’s armored forearm-all of them, turned with watch and warrant towards the Elezen nearing the edge of the bar. 

Emilia, inebriated though she was, faltered and dropped her blade onto the wooden surface of said bar with a loud, awkward clang. “I-“

Ser Aymeric rounded his cold blue eyes on her, stopping her mid-sentence, then brought them back to the men surrounding. “You kind gentlemen will do well to go on your way. My comrade, here, will release your friend to the care of mine,” Lucia stepped forward from the crowd, moving between the man and to Emilia, reaching for him. She released the Elezen immediately, to which Lucia took him by his arm and shoulder and began marching him through the space left from her approach. Aymeric continued, “Should you have any objection, you may speak with the Holy See on the ‘morrow and beg that your display of public intoxication and disordinance be removed from your public records and your workman’s licenses to be reissued.” 

One of the men suddenly became aware of his predicament and began to speak up but the Lord Commander raised his hand in silence. “If you wish to state a grievance, you would do well to do it in the company of those who’ve not heard you state you wish to whore this woman before you.” 

The Lord Commander continued walking forward until he was between the Elezen men and the miqo’te standing atop the bar. In one swift movement, he brought his arm up and swept the woman down and into his chest, holding her so her head was resting against the platemail on his right shoulder. With a brisk turn, he placed a coin sack on the bar, stated it was for the “damages”, then walked through the crowd the way he’d entered.
