Under the Moonlight

I've been trying to maintain my sanity during these unprecedented times by pouring myself into my needlework. I completed most of this in the past week or so, which is impressive even for me because this is a big pattern. The finished piece is 17.5 x 10.25 inches and consists of 7,705 stitches.
This pattern reminded me of the moonlight scene from Our Flag Means Death where Stede tells Ed, "You wear fine things well."
Pattern Time!

FINALLY! After almost 2 weeks the paint is finally dry!!!!
This, gentlenerds has been my first attempt to draw with oil paint. Still have a lot to learn here. Two things especially:
There is dry-fastener existent for a good reason and worth the investion
Open. the. window. Unless you wanna end up on a paint-trip. (like seriously, holy shit, the smell of that paint thinner… )
Since it was the first time with this medium, I went for a less complex motive - and since I am currently some more glued to the DreamSMP again I went for the good old L'Manberg flag
The background was made of acrylic but the entire flag it oil. Honestly you can see the difference. Using oils is quite the challenge I still needa master, but boy I'm in love with how freaking vibrant the colours end up to be <333

fun fact about me: for about a year (2019-2020) i did all of my digital art in mspaint with a laptop mouse and i got really good at it. i planned to do something nice but school said otherwise so i ended up using mspaint as god intended. i bring assorted mxtx doodles.
(^my scene wwx and goth lwj designs that i've been drawing for months but never posted)
#i COULD have used a custom brush and a small canvas in procreate to make it easier on myself but :)#its my opinion that limitations make better art (<- copium for some of her best work being in mspaint)#i used jspaint which is an online replica of mspaint because i have a mac now#its very good except it doesnt do *the eraser trick* which i'm sad about#iykyk#(when you set certain colors in actual mspaint and right click w the eraser you can set it to erase only one color)#(this can removed sketches from under lineart for example)#niche online communities will make you SO knowledgeable about the flags of states of the holy roman empire. or the intricacies of mspaint.#my art#art#mdzs#tgcf#mo dao zu shi#tian guan ci fu#the grandmaster of diabolism#heaven official's blessing#hob#wei wuxian#shadow the hedgehog#lan wangji#wangxian#jiang cheng#jin ling#hua cheng#cringetober 2023#cringetober#lmao

Fight in Front of the City Hall on 28 July 1830
Artist: Jean-Victor Schnetz (French, 1787-1870)
Date: 1833
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: Petit Palais, Paris, France
Description
Schnetz’s canvas illustrates the second day of the July Revolution of 1830. In reaction to oppressive orders signed by Charles X, the Paris crowds threw up barricades and seized the Hôtel de Ville. This emotive and romantic work focuses on the glorious death of the young hero on the barricades. A young student scales the barricade with his bayonet raised, pressing against his breast a working class youth who, like Victor Hugo’s Gavroche, expires as he raises the tricolour.
