it's not necessarily a texture-based thing but since we stopped using onion in stuff (food intolerance in the family), every now and then I cut up capsicums/bell peppers as if they were diced onion. Usually to put in like a curry or a stir-fry as onion substitutes. Was a good way to sneakily add them in, and for some weird reason felt like "More Actual Veg" than putting onion in. (It must be the whole "coloured veg" thing, because where I could I'd use some green and some red capsicum.)
(ON THAT NOTE: Red Capsicum goes super sweet if you roast it in the oven!)
i mean this in the gentlest way possible: you need to eat vegetables. you need to become comfortable with doing so. i do not care if you are a picky eater because of autism (hi, i used to be this person!), you need to find at least some vegetables you can eat. find a different way to prepare them. chances are you would like a vegetable you hate if you prepared it in a stew or roasted it with seasoning or included it as an ingredient in a recipe. just. please start eating better. potatoes and corn are not sufficient vegetables for a healthy diet.

The task of buying home dinner falls on me as I am the earliest person to reach home. Today, sis will be having the Sweet & Sour Pork Rice (咕噜肉饭) from the tze char (煮炒) stall. The ketchup-based pork is fried with capsicum, onion, pineapple, tomato and chilli. The fried egg is an optional add-on.

Mum and I went with the bento sets from the Japanese/Korean fusion stall. My Teriyaki Chicken & Spicy Chicken set comes with chicken cutlet, sauteed spicy chicken & onions plus mayonnaise and pickled vegetables. Mum had the Saba Fish Bento with steamed rice and kimchi.

Plant of the Day
Tuesday 29 October 2024
In the shelter of this cool glasshouse the fruits of Capsicum baccatum var. pendulum 'Bishop's Crown' (chilli peppers) are still ripening. These fruit have a crisp texture, sweet flavour and only a mild pungency with a Scoville rating of 5,000–30,000, which is less heat than a jalapeño.

Not to bring up more Bad News, especially since we're already drowing in it in the first month of the year, but in Seattle it's January and we still haven't had our first real frost of the year yet, which is Not a good sign!!
We've have some light frost just from the typical cold air falling to the ground but no sustained sub-0°C temps. When the nasturtiums are all still alive in the PNW there is something very wrong

You know how asian parents give you ten folds of the food items if you ever uttered the words “I like this thing”?
This is great until you’re a picky eater and you say “oh yeah, I can eat this thing now” and suddenly your parents are feeding it to you every chance they get to the point where you question if you can even eat this thing anymore.

For the toasted Focaccia Ham & Egg Sandwich, I put the salad greens at the bottom with cheese and weight down by two slices of ham. There is no fried egg so I just pile on the sauteed mushrooms and capsicums. Drizzled chilli sauce on top and my sandwich is really to be eaten.
