Hi my name is Carmilla von Karnstein and I have dark brown almost black hair (I got my name by mixing up the letters of my birth name) that reaches just past my shoulders and dark brown eyes like dried up blood and a lot of people tell me I look like Natasha Negovanlis (AN: if u don’t know who she is get da hell out of here!). I’m a vampire but my teeth are straight and white. I have pale white skin. I’m also a witch, and I go to a crazy wired university called Silas in Austria where I’m in the first year (I’m three hundred years old). Brief Personality: Sam is very quiet when you first meet him, he seems to not trust anyone or anything really. But when you break through his walls he is a very sweet and passionate person, they genuinely care about their family and just want to be accepted by other people. Which often means he will overwork himself just to “prove” himself to others, he honestly doesn’t know many connections where he doesn’t have to give something to another person.

Brief Backstory:

Sam was born to a long line of magical creatures. The occult was incredibly normal in their family, having connections to the occult and the divine. His family had a powerful inherent magic ability, however when Sam was born there wasn’t a celebration.

Long ago, one of Sam’s oldest ancestors made a deal with a demon, Azazel. As she was on the verge of being executed for witchcraft. She made a deal with the demon that the first boy born to their family would belong to Azazel. And to save her life she agreed.

This wasn’t a problem for many generations. They successfully had generations upon generations of women. The most recent generations couldn’t even remember the curse very well, until Sam came along.

Sam was treated differently than his sisters, he wasn’t given the same toys or the same opportunities. His family believed since that he would be given up to the demon at 18, there was no point in developing a relationship or spending money or time with him.

Sam tried everything he could in order to get his families approval. Becoming one of the most powerful magic users in his family. However nothing was enough. And the time was slowly ticking to when he turned 18.

A few weeks before his 18th birthday, he ran away from home and made an abandoned house his sanctuary. Completely demon proofing it.. well mostly.. even though the demon couldn’t get to him physically, he could still mentally torment him, and attempt to get him physically.

Sam eventually ends up being protected by the divine forces his family tried to keep him from. And he slowly realizes how weak Azazel actually is, unlike how his family thought for generations.

Sam ends up breaking the bond between him and Azazel and kills him. Before going to live with his real found family, protecting them from the occult.

Laura Karnstein (Adriana Ambesi) wird von entsetzlichen Alpträumen gequält, in denen sie den sich tatsächlich ereignenden, gewaltsamen Tod einiger ihrer Familienmitglieder voraussieht. Zutiefst besorgt bittet ihr Vater Graf Ludwig Karnstein (Christopher Lee) den Gelehrten Friedrich Klauss (José Campos) in den historischen Dokumenten des Schlosses etwas über eine gewisse Sheena Karnstein in Erfahrung zu bringen, die vor zweihundert Jahren als Hexe verbrannt wurde und vor ihrem Tod einen Fluch über die Familie Karnstein aussprach. Der Graf fürchtet, dass seine Tochter vom Geist der bösen Vorfahrin besessen ist. Lauras Gemüt hellt sich spürbar auf, nachdem eine vermeintlich kränkelnde Reisende namens Ljuba (Ursula Davis) nach einem Unfall im Schloss aufgenommen wird. Während sich zwischen den beiden jungen Frauen ein enges Verhältnis entwickelt, finden sowohl die der Schwarzen Magie frönende Bedienstete Rowena (Nela Conjiú) als auch die mit dem Grafen eine Affäre unterhaltenden Kammerzofe Anette (Vera Valmont) ein gewaltsames Ende. Überdies wird ein entstellter Vagabund (Angel Midlin), der sich in mysteriösen Andeutungen über den auf dem Geschlecht der Karnsteins lastenden Fluch erging, am Glockenseil der verfallenen Dorfkirche erhängt aufgefunden … Camillo Mastrocinque verarbeitet in seinem zwar nicht übermäßiger Logik frönendem, dafür jedoch umso stimmungsvollerem Film, der alle klassischen Ingredienzen eines Gothic Horrorfilms beinhaltet, Motive der Novelle “Carmilla” von Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. “Ein Toter hing am Glockenseil”, der leider dem charismatischen Christopher Lee eine eher undankbare Rolle zuweist, reicht zwar nicht an Mastrocinques faszinierenden “Ein Engel für den Teufel” (1966) - zu dem dieser Film durchaus einige Parlellen aufweist - heran, ist dennoch ein überaus lohnender Streifen für Freunde klassischer Gruselfilme.

Can you believe that in over 200 episodes we have yet to cover Hammer’s The Vampire Lovers (1970)? Well, now is the time! Featuring Peter Cushing and Ingrid Pitt, this Roy Ward Baker classic is likely beloved by many Monster Kids growing up with Famous Monsters of Filmland and their many coffee table monster movie books as it was featured often in those beloved tomes. The film also stars Pippa Steel, Madeline Smith, Kate O’Mara, George Cole, Jon Finch, Ferdy Mayne, Dawn Adams, Harvey Hall, and John Forbes-Robertson. Hammer not only kicks off the 1970s but also their Karnstein trilogy with fangs, blood, and ample nudity. The Grue Crew share their thoughts on the film, the cast, and the trilogy.

The Vampire Lovers is the last of the twenty films that Doc Rotten and The Black Saint chose as their ’70s favorites back in 2013, an event that led to the creation of the Decades of Horrors 1970s podcast. Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1970s is part of the Decades of Horror two-week rotation with The Classic Era and the 1980s. In two weeks, the next episode, chosen by Doc, will be Scream and Scream Again (1970) from Amicus, sporting the horror trifecta of Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, and Peter Cushing. Well, they are all three in the movie.
